For SUT, yes to both. You will get a refund on visa denial (if you had not applied for a refund earlier). Just don’t sign up for online classes Bro

The school has just given an extension for resumption until 1st November 2021
So happy for you! quote author=Pat006 post=74594242]Had my interview today. To be honest with you all ehn. I cannot comprehend all I said to get the white paper. It was like something else assumed me. I'm saying because I can't give a transcript and I know I learnt a lot from reading people's transcript.

It was my first time though.
It was an MBA program with focus on financial management and investment.
Lincoln university California is the school.

But my advice is simple. Know well about the course you are going for. Please don't cram.

Thank you nairalanders.. You groomed me!!!
Awwwwn! To me i think you pretty did well. Personally i think your answer to what do you think has changed this time irritated her. Some of these Vo can be so funny atimes.

But dont give up bRO

jerrypeacelinks:
Visa approval delayed again Walter Carington by Slim lady VO in window 4. This was my third attempt and I was super confident. I swear.

(I am still in shock though as I can't fathom what happened or where I got it all wrong).

VO: Good morning?
Me: Good morning Ma'am

VO: Passport and I-20 please?

Me: I passed them.

VO: So why do you wanna study?

Me: Currently most Nigerian firms have become IT savvy and are migrating their customer relationship management systems to those that are big data compliant like the hadoop and big data and computing which is even one of the core courses I will be study in my school is relatively new here in Nigeria with a lot of prospects but there is a lack of indigenous professionals. So these firms, because they want to make better business decisions, grow their business, stay relevant in the ever changing business world, they resort to hire expatriates who are professionals from technologically advanced countries like the US to help analyze their data. So this void created by a lack of indigenous professionals has created this burning desire in me to delve into this field and with my background in computer science which has exposed me to curriculum in Maths and Stat like numerical analysis, operations research and so on, a masters in this course will equip me with the technical and analytical skills that I need to flourish as an effective data analyst when I return to Nigeria and will also ensure I fill the gap for a lack of indigenous professionals in the field. It will also help me secure a top paying job in one of the top multinational...

VO cuts me off and says: Oh yeah u mentioned there is a lack of indigenous professionals and this course will help you fit in.

Me: Yes Ma'am.

She continued: Did you apply to any other schools?
Me: Yes. I applied to two other schools asides TAMUK.

VO: OK. So why do you wanna study at TAMUK? Why did you choose them?

Me: There is this on going research on Big Data and Computing carried out by Professor Steven Sedory that I am interested in. This area is new here in Nigeria and has a lot of prospects.

Also, the Curriculm at TAMUK is designed in such a way that it permits flexibility. That's is to say it will allow me choose from electives in other programmes like operations research and numerical analysis that are in line with my career interest.

They also have great faculties and excellent research facilities like the Javelina algebra computer laboratory and the James C. Jernigan library which is one of the largest library in the whole of Texas with over 600,000 volumes of print books, journals and government publications.

Also....

VO: Did you write any entrance exams?
Me: Yes. I wrote a standardised test.

VO: Which of them?

Me: I sat for the GRE.

VO: What were your scores?

Me: I scored 299 overall. 149 in the verbal, 150 in the quantitative and 4.0 in the analytical writing.

VO: I see you have been here previously twice?

Me: Yes Ma'am.

VO: so what do you think has changed in your profile?

Me: I believe I am more confident now.

VO: Okay, your confidence level? (smiles one devilish smile). Picks my passport and scans through to see my travel history.

Me: (maintaining eye contact from beginning to the end) and hoping for good news cos I recently visited South Africa in August.

VO: Who will be sponsoring your studies?

Me: (smiling) My dad.

VO: Well, sorry, you do not qualify at this time. (Dishes out the awful paper).

Me: Shocked. Took my property and left.

Till now, I am yet to factor out what was wrong. My brother waiting for me no even believe am. I have been thinking still and can't figure out what the matter is. Please gurus, what do you think went wrong?

Not all schools require toelf and GRE
Timotee:
Most competitive programmes require the GRE. A few schools may waive the GRE but I will not advise you to apply to such schools. On the flip side, many good schools are now beginning to waive the TOEFL exam for candidates from Nigeria (e.g. Univ. of Arizona, Washington State Univ., Colorado State Univ., Texas A&M Univ at College Station, Univ. of Texas at Dallas, etc). It's easier to get a good school that waives the TOEFL test than get a good school that waives the GRE.

Yes, it may be an issue later. No any proper job will pay you in cash in US. That means your ssn would be collected and reported to irs for tax purposes and to dhs to verify your eligibility to work. If you get caught doing undocumented job, you and your employer are looking for the wrath of ICE. Try get EAD for pre-opt but the sad news is that it takes about 4 months to approve and you must work, paid or unpaid in a field significant to your studies. Best!
Goodmorning House.

To the elders in the house please i need your advice on something.

So in my school, we are allowed to work outside campus only during summer, it was a new law that was paased by the international admission centre last summer since there are rarely no jobs available during the summer in school. So my fellow Nigerians here who pioneered the move and also enjoyed that benefit last year had been here for more than a year. I got in here in January. Fortunately for me i got a job with a telecomms company for summer internship, now the company said the university must sign the page 2 of my I 20 form and that i must have been in the Usa for atleast one year. The internship department communicated with the Homeland and securities department and they said i must have been here for a year before i can work outside campus but school says international students have the summer to themselves so they can work anywhere. Now i am a bit confused on what to do.

Incase i get another off campus job and they are not willing to pay cash, will the off campus summer pay that reflect in my record affect me when i am filing for my papers? How is it like or done in your respective schools and states?

Thanks

All the best to those students resuming this summer. Do have a safe trip...... Few things to remember, clear any unnecessary and implicating documents, images, videos (delete all forms of militants, boko haram, videos relating to terrorist attacks or other forms of killings that you may have received through broadcast), discussionss. Confirm if you have accomodation (if you have a long night stop over), take thick clothes for airplane and arrival, the weather is warm in most states now but just to be double safe. Travel light; dont carry too much luggage, dont help or assist anyone to carry or keep their luggage and dont give anyone yours to hold for you. Double check your admission date and ensure you are not travelling rather too early before your resumption)

I wish you all a wonderful time here in the Usa. For those coming to Texas, you can pc me to link up sometimes.

PoliticsRe: My Experience For Nigerian Embassy Wey Dey For Atlanta Georgia For USA by abeeolars: 5:02pm On Mar 31, 2018
how many days you use before you get the new one

easystudy101:
Last friday I travel go Atlanta to go renew my passport. I go change my passport to de one wey dem dey call e-passport. I don postpone dis trip too may times until I come decide to do am before March finish. And I go tell you say de waka to get my new passport no be small waka.

I start online to find out wetin and wetin I need to carry go de embassy office. My online waka come turn to full time research abi na project. I see plenty sites wey tell me different tins wey I need to carry go de embassy office. From birth certificate, local government identification letter to gurrantor letter wey I go declare all my property.

I come discover say some of de tins wey some of de site dey ask for no dey with me for US. Den when I try to call de number for de website, nobody gree pick. I try email, I no get any reply. Na dat time I come begin one by one to eliminate de tins wey no dey necessary . I come start to narrow everytin to US requirements. Na dia I come find out say if you wan change ya passport for Atlanta office, you go need:
Online application ( you go fill de form online, den come print am)
Money order $106
Letter say you don pay de money
Receipt of money wey you pay
Processing fee $30
Ya old passport
Photocopy of de biodata page
One passport photo
Afta I finish to gada everytin wey I need, I come begin plan my trip. I reach Atlanta on thursday, den friday around 10 'oclock for morning I land de office. When I enter Inside, and den look around, ee really feel like any typical office for Naija. For wall dem get TV wey dey show NTA and den anoda side you go see de ambassador and Oga Jona photo. Pidgin english and oda naija languages just dey fly from all angles.

And as usual, we get awa own naija wey to organize tins. Some sidon, odas dey stand up as chair no reach everybody. Some wan hurry finish quick quick. Na so some go wan take style jump line to go front. Even dos wey dey work dia no even fit coordinate de place well. As you come in, na so you go pick number. But I come notice say de workers (one of dem na phillipino woman) just dey call de number at random. Sometimes you go hia 76, den lata you hia 51. One woman wey de tin no gree come ask dem why dem dey jump number like dat, de workers explain say na de way de tin dey for dia list...lol.

Afta dem check ya documents finish, dem go come send you go anoda room where you go go snap picture. If you snap finish, dem go tell you to go bring priority envelope. Some body go direct you to go anoda building (wey no be post office oo!) to go buy de envelope. For dia one babe dey dia dey make quick money. Envelope wey dem dey sell $4, she go sell am to you for $10. Trust naija and dia hustle. I sure say na people for de embassy dey arrange dis one. And dem no go tell you for dia website to come with de envelope, so dat you go come de embassy come buy dem own (naija eh...!)

Well I tank God say my waka no enter K-leg. Everytin go smooth for me. Some people for dia say dem don come like three times, and each time dem go tell dem to go bring one tin or anoda. But afta everytin, de place dey organise sha as per yankee standard. Who say naija no dey respect dem sef when dem need to. Dem know say if dem try any of awa usual nonsense for yankee, na double wahala for dedi body for dem be dat.

I love this Guy!

Scholastica16:
A lot of red herrings in Gunnerson’s post and some other things there are obviously right. My own take is how does someone “settle” for a post-doc? Have you seen the average salaries they earn? That is officially more than what President PMB and VP Osinbajo get in a year.

Then conversion of Naira to Dollar will only make sense if you earned your money in Naira and had to spend it in Dollars. How can someone who earns $2000 a month be angry that he spent $100 (5% of his earnings) on something because it is N36,000 in his head whereas maybe Nigerians buy same thing N30, 000. When the person who paid N30,000 for the said item earns N150,000 (20% of his income).

It is always right to compare your standard of living and ease of earning in the place where you pay N2M per year to the same one in Ojuelegba where you pay 500k.

And BTW, 1 Bedroom apartment where 3 people share one bathroom? Which Tenant Manager allowed you guys stay that way? Traditionally 1Bed rooms are more expensive than 2 and 3 bed rooms shared. If you wanted to be extra prudent you would have stayed in a 3bed room (that is where kitchen and bathrooms are shared) and paid 1/3rd of the price of a 1Bed room.

So you see, you were being hyperbolic just to pass your point. I can also poke holes in the big school talk because there are many people on here who did not go to MIT etc and are in very-well paying jobs but I get why you said it and I partially endorse that aspect of your post.

Understand that just like everything in life, the individuals play a huge role in their ultimate success over and above the school they attended, programs they opted for, luck or even class of degree. Everything should be viewed from the prism of context.

All these transfer plans can be very risky at times. Why did you apply to the school when you know that you will be transferring eventually. I met a lady at Doha during my stop over, we bonded in no time but eventually she was not allowed to enter into the country because she was also pursuing this transfer plans and she miscalculated! Unfortunately for her. her school resumes in february but because she was trying to meet transfer deadline, she left naija much earlier. The immigration officer went through her phone and saw traces of her intentions etc on her chats which she cleared on whatsapp but were backed up in her email. They also found some implicating messages and she got some year ban alongside
