IRE (Short story)
AUTHOR: Fassara Zuwa Hausa

I hurriedly walked to the cooking house, not wanting mama to call me a third time.
A third time meant a knock on the head and my head was still hot from the last knock. I got to the cooking house and placed the yams beside mama’s feet and crouched next to them. Next, I picked up a knife and started to peel. As I did this, I remembered the first time mama had given me the chore of peeling and cutting up yams for porridge.
I was nine years old at the time and had just begun to help my mother with the preparation of the family meals. I had messily cut up the yams; peeling good yams away and what was supposed to be large neat cubes of yams came out in a shape even I could not describe.
“Take a look at the yams you peeled, Ire’’ mama had said slowly, very slowly, “and tell me what you think about them’’.
I didn’t need to look at the yams before I answered, but I did anyway and said the first thing that came to my mind.
“They’re ugly mama”, I whispered in a teary voice, already dreading the
punishment that was to come “I’m sorry mama”, I quickly added.
She ignored the second part of my statement and latched on the first.
“Oh so you even know that they are ugly? Do you know how much yams cost in the market? Have you ever seen me cut up yams like this?” she bombarded me
with questions.
I wanted to remind mama that we planted yams ourselves on our large farm and it was more than surplus, and also that this was my first time of cutting yams so it could not possibly be perfect; but I held my tongue and stared at my feet. Mama inevitably gave me her signature knock, telling me that the essence of yam
porridge was in the well chopped yams and properly shaped yam cubes. After that day, I noticeably improved in yam cutting and after several knocks, I became as perfect in the chore as she wanted.
I turned back to the task at hand; within minutes, I had peeled all six tubers of yams perfectly and cut them all up into large neat cubes. I cleared my throat.
“Mama I am done”, I said.
“Took you long enough. Go and fan the flames”.
I stood up and walked to where a large pot was resting on the firewood stove. I picked up the plastic hand fan and began to blow the flames. I coughed when the smoke got into my throat and my eyes began to water at the sting. Of all the household chores, I hated this the most.
Finally, after several minutes, the flames responded and caught on; rewarding my efforts with a healthy fire. I breathed a sigh of relief and stepped away from the fire, awaiting new orders from mama.
It was our turn to prepare the family lunch and mama took her time, as always, prepared to impress with her cooking. Although the other wives were superior to mama in many things, mama was very much superior when it came to cooking.

MOONWALKER 2
[THE DARK MOON]

CHAPTER 7

Simon caressing the necklace around Kara's neck made Simra shiver where she stood, she knew Simon would definitely pull it off and of course hell would let loose the moment he does.

"If I may cut in sir"
All eyes turned around to see Jason who stepped out and stood before Simon.
"And who said you can kid?"
Simon's question erupted murmurs in the hall, they all wondered what gave Jason the guts to stand up to Simon.
"What is wrong with him? Is he mad?"
Friya whispered to katherine, a member of her crew, Katherine simply shrugged her shoulders and stood on her toes to see the end of the scene, she was equally flummoxed.
Jason knew Simon's question was meant to shut him up while he still had the chance but he was not ready to stand back.
"Sir with all due respect I would like to know the purpose of the refuge again and it's code of conduct, cos as far as I know it is for teens like us who have got nowhere to go and most importantly who have got powers, or is that not the case here sir?"
Silence enveloped the hall, Jason had a point, why is Kara being punished for having powers if the purpose of the refuge is to shield those with powers and teach them how to use it for good.

"Kid you are right but...."

"Then why is Kara treated like an enemy? Why has she always been left out, ostracized, bullied at even when she has done nothing wrong! Why do people call her a monster when she is the one that is being hurt, no one shows her love, no one shows her care, we all hate a person for things a prophesy said? The elders would kill an innocent girl who has shed no blood? What is the purpose of the refuge then? To kill the innocent?"

Jason walked towards Kara and picked her jaw with his finger to lift her face to him, she was in tears.
"Look at her Sir, if in the future she actually becomes a monster then it would be our fault"

"How dare you! How dare you, you peasant! You bastard! Throw him in the dungeon!"
Elias stood up in wrath.

"No, the kid has a point, he has been blinded by the pretense of the girl, they all have, they don't know that beneath this innocent crying face is a terrifying monster, if you would allow me to show it to you Jason"
Simon said and turned back to every other person who stood in the hall.
"If you would allow me to show it to all of you, the monster she really is"
With that he teleported back to Kara's side, shoved Jason from holding her and pulled off the necklace.
There was a pause of fear on everyone and Elias was eager to see just how Kara would show the crowd how monstrous she was.
Few seconds turned into few minutes and then more than 20 minutes but nothing happened, all that was heard was Kara sniffing and sobbing.
Simon felt disgraced and embarrassed.
"Guess I was right after all"
Jason last words lit up the anger in him that he slapped a tooth out of Jason's mouth
"Throw them in the dungeon, this meeting is dismissed"
He said and teleported into his Chambers.

***
Simra returned to her Chambers where Lia was waiting impatiently for some good or bad news.
"Simra? What happened, where is Kara?"

"In the dungeon, the elders are yet to decide her fate"

"Oh no, they discovered she has powers? She is doomed Kara, don't you think it's time to bring back Sara? She would die if Sara is..."

"They did not find out, they did not find out about her powers"
Lia made a pause and then squealed for joy before she noticed Simra was still pensive
"What's wrong, you are supposed to be happy right?"

"Lia, Simon took off her necklace and nothing happened"
Lia allowed a questionable frown on her face before she asked.
"Is that supposed to be a problem, maybe she knows how to control her powers"

"No, Kara cannot control her powers just yet, something must have happened, and I can not think of anyone but the boy, Jason, he is special and we need him"
Lia thought for a while and discovered she could not figure anyone with the name Jason and so she asked.
"Who is Jason?"
***

"What did you do Jason, I made it clear the other day that you should Saturday away from me"
Kara said as she sat with Jason in the dungeon, her face buried in her palms.
"What? I can't believe you would say this right now, after I just saved your ass"

"I didn't ask you to Jason, I was ready to make them pay, all of them, for what they've done to me"

"And how to do you propose to do that? You can not control your powers just yet, I felt it, it's like a boiling water ready to explode inside of you, if it was still in you the moment Elder Simon removed your Necklace all you would do is explode and boom, you are dead"
Kara lifted up her head now to take another look at her saviour, he is an handsome teen indeed, just that now he was bleeding, her eyes went wide as she called out
"Jason you are bleeding"
Jason touched his nose and realised blood was dripping from his nose.
"Dammit, it's your powers, when I touched your Jaw I swapped my powers with yours, it's the reason nothing happened when the necklace was removed, now your powers is tearing me up"
Kara hurried to him when he lost balance and fell to the ground.
"What do I do Jason?"

She asked in fear.
"You would have to take back your powers, but if that happens, you would loose control, and I have got barely some few minutes before your powers shuts down my system completely"

"What does that mean?"

"It means I'll die Kara, and the moment I die your powers comes back to you, either way you are getting your powers back"
Kara looked up to the gates of the dungeon when she noticed a shadow cast upon them. She could not tell she knew the creature coming towards them is the most monstrous creature she had ever seen in her entire life and she could tell it was not coming for good.
"Jason, we've got company, big company, big problem"
Jason laid on his belly to see the Griffin approaching them with red eyes.
"Oh no no no, it's the Griffin, we are so dead Kara!.

MOON WALKER 2
[THE DARK MOON]

CHAPTER 6

Kara laid for some few more minutes when a few guards barge into the Chambers.
"You've got no manners? this is the keeper's Chambers, show some respect!"
Lia charged both hefty men who appeared like men set for war.
"We're sorry about that, the elders has requested Kara to stand before verdict hall"
One look at Lia's expression revealed that the hall of verdict is nothing good.

"She can't now, she is not feeling well"
Lia tried to make an excuse but the guards would not cooperate.

"Am afraid we can't do anything about that, she has to come with us"

"Give me a minute to get her ready"
Lia slammed the door and stood behind it for a while as she sighed several times.
Slowly she sat beside Kara and held her hand.
"You have to be strong Kara"

"Why do I feel this verdict hall is the end for me"

"Listen kara, you have to be strong, really strong"

Lia was whispering now and it made Kara a littke scared.

"Whats going on Lia, what will they do to me?"

Lia was quiet, but she soon realised her silence would waste more time. She held Kara's right hand to her chest, looking deep into her eyes she whispered.

"No matter what happens, no one must know you have powers, guide that secret with your life, its the only thing keeping you alive"

Kara didn't get the opportunity to ask more questions, the guards forced their way in and picked her onto their shoulder...
It didn't take more than a few seconds, Kara found herself in a large hall, standing face to face with the elders. The guards had teleported her to the hall to avoid anymore delay.
Her eyes skimped with fear burning in her veins. She noticed Simra in a square court box, it was obvious she was under questioning.

"Simra, care to explain, or should i say feed us with the lies you spilled earlier?"

Elias, one of the elders said the moment he saw Kara standing before them. Elias had never liked the idea of kara staying in the refuge, he had raised the suggestion that kara be killed to avoid the fufillment of the prophesy.

"As i said earlier, the girl is innocent and she has no powers whatsover"
Simra replied without looking to Kara's direction.

Friya's scoff made Kara realise she was not alone in the hall, looking behind her she saw the whole school standing behind her to see how the elders would decide her fate.

"Kara! Do you swear before the elders and the entire refuge that you've got no powers?"
Simon called to Kara who was obviously trembling.

Simra would not look to Kara's direction but she hoped kara would not spill the secret, it would be the end for her if the elders discover she has powers.

It took few minutes for Kara to reply

"No sire, right from my childhood i have been without powers and the whole school knows that"

"Liar!"

It was Elias again

"You've been hiding under the shadows of Simra, you are the reason a Griffin is in this school, plus only a priestess has the power that controls the weather, it is you!"

Turning to Simon he called out

"We should execute this witch before its too late!"

Simra began to regret her decision to bury Sara in a tomb beneath the refuge, she would have been a good bonus to shut the entite refuge, she sincerely hoped kara would not be discovered else she would be executed immediately and it would definitely be the end of the refuge, because whenever or however Sara wakes up, she would rain thunderstorm on everyone of them.

"Silence Simon"

"Where were you when the school was enveloped in darkness?"

Simon next question proved technical, kara intelligently fathomed they must have checked Simra's chambers during the incident to discover she wasn't there.

"I was out in the woods, the keeper had sent me to fetch her some herbs"

"Deep in the woods we've discovered a massive explosion of a force that blew the trees around it to bits, only the powers of a priestess can do that Kara"

Simon stood up now when he noticed kara shiver.
Within seconds he teleported and stood before her.

"Maybe all this while Simra had found a way to keep your powers hidden until she figured a Griffin is out for you, you know the only reason we kept you in the refuge was because Simra assured us that she had gotten rid of your powers"
The hall was quiet, no one could predict Simon's next move.
Kara could hear her heart throbbing so fast against her chest.

"Perharps she found a way to surpress your powers instead of getting rid of it, perharps its a canvan bracelet, but i can't find any attached to your wrist, except this necklace that has never left your neck"

Simon hands went to carress the necklace.

"Tell me, what would happen if i pull off this necklace?"

[THE DARK MOON]

CHAPTER 5

Simra was expecting an explosive wrath with the way Kara's hands tightened to a fist. She was apparently flummoxed to the extent she paced a little before she resulted to an impending exclamation.
"What? You are joking with me right?"

"Funny it took you almost 30minutes to reply"
Lia chipped in before Simra continued.

"No Kara, I am not, we have to teach you how to use your powers but no one must know you have powers, it must be a secret"
Kara stood with folded arms, her forehead had a confused frown, she was obviously looking for the right words to say; she could not tell what she actually felt at that moment.
"Kara we have to start now, I would be taking you down to our secret training Chambers, you..."

"Wait, wait, wait"
Kara interrupted now.
"All my life I have been ridiculed and deserted because you led me to believe a lie? Like you've utterly destroyed my life! You made me believe I was a freak without powers, I got bullied by my mates, ostracized by every kid in the refuge and now one day you just pop out from nowhere and you are like, Kara you've got powers, you need to start training..."
Accidentally a disbelieving laugh escaped Kara's lips.

"Are you fucking serious now? And you think I would just jump at the stupid idea and start your training? What are you both thinking? That I am a puppet?"
Simra had no words to keep Kara so she watched as Kara turned to leave. But, Lia was not going to let that happen. She magically drew Kara to stand before her and took Kara's right hand.
"Alright let's skip to the part where you die if you don't learn how to use your powers. Give me you other hand, I'll show you something"

Lia went ahead to hold Kara hands when she hesistated and showed her the kids murdered by the Griffin in a flash.
She went on to open up a memory of the past when she encountered a Griffin and how it horribly slew everyone who attempted to save her until she had to save herself by taking to her heels.

"What the hell is that!"
Kara shook in fear when Lia was done.

"That? That is what is coming for you! So you better skip all the pet talk and get to work if you want to live in the refuge for the next 24hours! Whatever the keeper did, she did for your own good. Now if she says it's time to evolve, you do just as she has said, understood?!"

Kara didn't realize when she subconsciously nodded to Lia. She knew no one likes her guts in the refuge, but she surely didn't want to die just yet.

"Okay okay"
She laughed nervously and continued
"Well I don't know how to start with this, I still don't feel like I have powers, I feel so ordinary..."
Kara felt awkward when both Lia and Simra looked to each other with suspicious smile.
"Well you are about to find out"
***
Deep beneath Simra's Chambers, Kara stood in a well organized training room. Kara was a bit flummoxed giving that she never fathomed there was a secret threshold that led to the training room, a threshold that had been in her room for years.
"So what now?"
She asked when Simra was done changing her clothes into an armour.
"Now you take off your necklace"

"Why my necklace? You said it's for my protection"

"Yes it is, but now you have to take it off"

"Why do I have a feeling that this is a bad idea?"
Kara stalled a little

"Come on kid take it off already, we don't have patience for this"

Slowly Kara's hands went to the back of her neck and surprisingly she noticed Simra and Lia getting set for battle.

"Why are you both acting like you are about to fight a demon?"
Kara stalled again

"Oh Kara get on with this already!"

"Okay okay"

And the moment the necklace came off Kara froze.

"Kara?"
Lia hurried to her.

"She is burning up, what's going on?"

"Let her be, her powers has been locked in for a long time..."

Kara interrupted when a sudden wind began to revolve around her. The clouds went dark and her eyes glowed with darkness.

"What is hap-pening to me"
Kara stuttered, she was writhing in pain, like a force was trying to split her open.

"Kara calm down, take a deep breathe, this is normal, you just have to control it okay, calm down"

"I can't, I wanna scream!"

"Oh bloody hell, Simra if she screams we are all toast, take her elsewhere please"

One look at Kara proved what Lia said was actually going to happen.
Quickly Simra teleported her out of the refuge into the woods and gave the go ahead.

"Now scream Kara, scream!"

Dark veins welled up to Kara's forehead, she knelt to the ground, the grasses around her dried up, darkness oozed out of eyes and blood dripped from her nose... And with all the strength she had left she let out a scream, the trees around her vibrated and exploded to bits...
"Kara!"
Simra called when it was getting out of hand.

"Control it!"

"I can't! it's tearing me up!"
She cried...
The dark clouds overshadowed the refuge, no one could see a thing, the elders summoned an emergency meeting with lamps as their means of light.

Simra had no choice, she magically fastened the necklace to her arm; exhausted she fell to the ground, the clouds cleared up and the head of the elders, Simon, called in rage
"Summon Simra now and that witch of hers, Kara!"
He knew only Kara had the power that affects the weather.

Kara woke up 24hours later to notice Lia sitting beside her.
"Where is Simra"
She asked

"Emm, she has a query to answer before the elders"

"Is it because of me?"

"I'd rather not talk about that now, she would be back soon, you have to rest"
A minute of silence had it's way until Kara questioned again.
"What was that?"

"What was what?"

"What happened to me, is that the power I possess? A power fueled with pain?"

"Oh Kara, what happened yesterday is nothing close to the power you possess, when you evolve the refuge put together cannot stop you"

Kara eyes went wide open
"Okay that's scary, I am scary"

"No it's not, don't you get it Kara, you are a goddess, there are many who will kill to have your powers, it's the more reason you have to be prepared, because your battle has begun..."

MOON WALKER 2
[THE DARK MOON]

CHAPTER 4

Kara still had a suspicious look on her face, she ensured there was a reasonable gap between herself and Jason, she didn't understand the waves that burned through her when he touched her, plus she didn't want to have the odd feeling again.

"Are you scared of me? I just want to be your friend"

Jason went on when he noticed Kara was trying to keep her distance. She was quiet, strangely quiet that he felt he made the wrong move when he decided to come talk to her.
He was about to excuse himself when she called.
"I don't know if you are here to mock me like the others, there is something strange about you"
She didn't want to explain that she felt some connection to him, she felt he might read a different meaning to it.
Jason sat back now, but before he could utter any word Kara's nightmare, Friya, arrived the scene with her gang to bully Kara as usual.
"What is this thing doing with you Jason?"
She pointed out with disgust.
Kara held her forehead, she had always tried her best to avoid friya; Friya always made life miserable for her in the refuge, she knew quite well that once the issue gets to Simra, Friya might get kicked out of the refuge, but she felt it was something she should handle on her own.
"Friya please, let her be"
Jason came to the rescue but it wasn't enough to appease the blonde.
"Look here bitch, Jason is mine and mine alone! You think a powerless freak like you can have him?"

"Friya you can have him alright, can you please leave me to think?"
Kara was getting tired of the situation, she hated herself anytime Friya came around.

"Is that the respect I taught you? Huh?"
Friya was a vampire, she had speed and of course super strength. She sped and picked Kara by her neck.
"Friya enough!"
Jason tried to stop Friya from doing anymore damage but he was no match for the vampire, she waved him metres away with her other hand and picked Kara off the ground as she strangled the life out of her.
Her fangs were out to do more damage when Gabrielle, a member of her supposed gang called out.
"Friya, that's enough, you are gonna kill her"
Kara was a bit surprised when Friya listened and threw her to the ground.
Jason was nowhere to be found when she looked out for him so after she spat on Kara she left unsatisfied, she still felt Kara deserved more than what she got, Kara should know she doesn't belong to the refuge, that she is a curse!

"Are you okay?"
It was Jason, Kara could not believe Jason would hide, she actually thought he had some supernatural powers that he could use in defending himself.
"Why didn't you do anything, you are powerless too?"
Jason smiled a little, he stretched forth his hand and touch her forehead, instantly all her wounds healed up.
"No I am not, they call me the copy"

"What's that?"
Kara asked when they both sat back.
"What's the copy"

"I can copy any supernatural powers and use it for a period of time. Like now, when I healed you, it wasn't my power, It was yours"
Kara shot him that disbelief look before she made a scoff and replied.
"I don't have powers mister, if you are here to mock me then just say so and for the record I just met you okay, I really don't know what you want from me, please...please just stay away, I don't want anymore trouble"
***
Three days after was the night of the full moon; Simra was summoned by the elders, the unspeakable has happened.

"Explain this Simra, this castle is meant to be a place of refuge not an harbour of evil"
The elders complained as they stared at the lifeless bodies arraigned in a row just by the entrance to the elders Chamber.
"It must be the girl, the evil girl, the curse has started, we are all doomed"
More complains arosed as the physician inspected the bodies.

"This is darkness, a dark magical creature called the Griffin"
Micheal the physician called out to Simra as he carried out his inspection.
"Why would a Griffin come after the refuge?"

"One thing, the priestess... The priestess moon light powers is the only reason a Griffin would be here, but the confusing thing is the Griffin is no match for the priestess and the priestess is certainly not here, except there is another person here with the powers of a priestess"
Micheal went on and Simra could only think of one thing, Kara is in grace danger!

"Simra what do we do? It's certainly going to come after her and Kara cannot defend herself, we can't help her either because we are no match for a Griffin"
Lia complained when Simra was back in her Chambers.
Simra was quiet as she paced to and fro.
"Simra?"

"Quiet Lia I am thinking"

"Well there is no time to think, the Griffin is going to kill more children and eventually get to Kara"

"What's coming for me?"
Kara walked into the scene with questionable eyes.
With a sigh Simra drew Kara close with her mind and brought her to sit.
"First Kara you need to know that you are the most powerful being on this planet"
Kara made an attempt to talk but Simra was quick to hush her.
"Second you should know your life is in danger, it's time you use your powers"

A DATE TO REMEMBER (LAST EPISODE)

"Hahahaha, you think I would let you go easily? I will always be your nightmare, you cannot deceive me like the others and go free. None of them survived!" Kelechi swallowed hard and tried to concentrate on his footing but Pearl was coming at a blistering pace, she was already accustomed to the bridge. His cut was bleeding effusively and he felt sickly. Quickly, he tore the shirt she had given him and used it to wrap the wound. "No! You bastard!" She called out rancorously. "That was my dad's best shirt! No!!!" And with those words Pearl forgot her remaining sanity and pursued him without concern for safety. Kelechi knew he was never going to see another sun rise if she got to him and with that knowledge he left the support of the rails and quickened his pace. He was just about jumping to solid ground when he heard screaming and a loud splash and turned just in time to see Pearl hitting the bottom of the canal. "Help me! Somebody! Help please!!" He thought about going back to save her, she was a human too after all. But he was too weak, he had lost a lot of blood. He staggered on into the night, only tightening the strap around his arm, until he heard with relief the raspy shouts of a bus conductor: "Campus gate!! Campus gate!"

It was eight minutes past eleven when Kelechi alighted from the bus that had brought him back. He didn't bother collecting his change from the driver, he wasn't even sure he had paid the fare as he stumbled towards the gate, fighting terribly hard to maintain his balance. "Who be that, show yourself!" He recognized the voice as that of Mr Audu's, the school's most revered night guard. He slowly raised his left arm, trying to shield his eyes from Audu''s luminous torchlight. "Abi you deaf? Identify yourself now before I use this thing for your body!" Audu belligerently barked, brandishing a wide wooden stick. He was known as a no-nonsense person, once he had single-handedly caught three robbers who had invaded the school's bakery, but Kelechi was too weak to say anything. The stocky figure of the night guard was now within reach and Kelechi collapsed just as his hands touched Audu's trousers.
He would live, at least he believed so, but the memory of this scar would never leave; he would never be the same again.

MOONWALKER 2
[THE DARK MOON]
CHAPTER 3

Simra had succeeded in convincing Kara that she was left behind, her parents grew tired of her liabilities, they had to leave her in the care of the refuge, it would be too dangerous is she lives in the open world.
It's been seven years and Kara is more of a teen who has been ostracized by every other teenager. They were scared of her not because she flaunted any supernatural powers but because her eyes were outlandishly dark. They nicknamed her the weak devil; the weak devil because Simra had succeeded in constraning her powers with thousands of canvan bracelet heated and made into a necklace.
"Never take this off my child, it would protect you from unseen harm"
She had always reminded Kara.

The teachers in every class of the supernatural were a little puzzled on how to fix Kara. She had no powers whatsoever. She was kicked out and transferred from class to class until eventually they insisted Simra would be best to handle her.
"I am useless Simra, it's the reason my parents left me, I am too weak, I'm a total liability"
Kara said one evening, during her martial arts class with Simra. She was the only who calls Simra by her name and somehow Simra didn't mind.
"No you are not Kid, you are special, very special, a rare breed that has never existed on the surface of this planet and beyond, you are the first and last of your kind..."
Kara rolled her eyes when she heard the same old story Simra had always said to her. It was of no use, she knew Simra was trying to make her feel better.
"I get it Simra, you are just trying to make me feel better, look at me huh"
She made a gesture with both hands on her waist.
"Look at my eyes, I am nothing but a freak without powers, the other kids call me a weak devil, they treat me like an outcast! I have no one!"
The canvan necklace began to radiate, her powers that had been locked up for a few years were obviously bobbling and posing to let loose, but the necklace was the only bulwark standing in it's way.
"You have me Kara, you always have me, I will always be there for you"
Simra could remember how the elders had criticized her decision to keep Kara.
"Are you mad Simra? Of all the kids you chose her? The girl is a demon, she would destroy us all! You of all people should know that, you know the prophesy, you know what it says!"
The elders had lamented bitterly and pushed for Kara's execution but Simra stood her ground and insisted no harm must come to the lad.
"We can't murder an innocent girl based on a prophesy! Leave her in my care, I would train and bring her up the right way, besides if we lay any hands on her, you know the priestess would burn this place to the ground" of course no except Lia knew Sara, the priestess laid beneath the castle.
After much deliberation Simra won but was thoroughly warned to keep the lad in check.
"They are jealous of you and the special treatment I give to you, you are the most beautiful girl in the refuge, I am not saying this to make you feel better"
Kara chose not to give credence to Simra's reassuring words, if she is as beautiful as Simra claims then she should be adorned, not ostracized.
Things changed when one evening someone touched her shoulder. His brown hair covered part of his eyes, his eyes were astonishly green, he was just like her father.
"Hey, emm, am Jason"
She could not tell if he meant good or if he was going to mock her like the others, but there was this strong connection she felt the moment he touched her shoulder, every fiber of her being reacted to his touch, there is something about him she could not explain and for a few minutes his right hand was left hanging till she realised and shook him.
"I am Kara"

"Kara you are beautiful"
Kara was at first pissed but then, she saw the sincerity in his eyes, he was saying the truth, she heard him say it but his mouth didn't move, he only stood in front of her smiling nervously. Wait? Did she just read his thoughts? But she was told she had no powers?

"Emm, I have been watching you for a while now and emm, you are always alone..."
Kara didn't see the need to reply him since he was stating the obvious.
"Sorry can I sit?"
It was a short bench and the moment he sat his his shoulder met with hers and once again her body shivered and heated up at his touch.
Questions began to build up in her mind.
Who is this guy? And what does he want from her?

A DATE TO REMEMBER (4)

"Hey we're here!" The all too familiar voice cut into his thoughts again. He had been thinking too much that evening and feared Pearl probably might have sensed his discomfort. He chided himself, he had to act relaxed. Nobody knows what could be up the sleeves of an angry Pearl. " Wow! Nice home, I love it! Your father built this?" He asked, surprised at the brick-solid composure his voice held. "Nooo. First, he's my stepfather, a devil's reincarnate can never be my dad. Second, his father was the one who built it before passing it to him when he died. Abi shey lazy people dey get house?!" She rhetorically asked in pidgin English, the first she’d ever spoken to him, before bursting into laughter after he shot her one of his killer smiles. He wondered how she managed to laugh and effortlessly make it seem so real. "Come on, make yourself at home, I'd be back with a towel for you soon."
Kelechi subconsciously nodded as he lowered himself into the seat nearest to the door. He chided himself again. If he was to successfully play this game of pretense, then he had to up his dramatic skills as well as juggle his memory. She had never made the dislike of her stepfather secret, she’d even told him she would tell him something really nasty about the old man when they eventually met. Kelechi at the time had been pleased that he was winning her trust to the extent of her promising to tell him family secrets but now he didn't care about her old man anymore. All he wanted was to live out the remaining forty minutes left for the time to read 7pm without any significant hitch before he bade her goodbye.
Soon she returned with a towel, a shirt that two persons of his size could fit into perfectly and a hot cup of tea. "Drink this, it should reduce the cold. I'm sorry I've not mastered the art of hospitality, yet." She smiled and Kelechi returned the smile before taking the cup and settling it on the table. His body involuntarily shook. "Here, manage this. Pull off your wet shirt and put this on. By morning your shirt should definitely be dry. It was my father's, I still keep some of his personal possessions with me, they remind me of him." Kelechi didn't know which part of her statement to gawk at. The fact that she wanted him to put on the cloth that had been worn by a dead man or that she actually had thoughts of him staying overnight. He almost spat out a
tufiakwa but regained his composure quickly to fire back a deft response. "Hey Pearl. I really appreciate your hospitality but I won't be able to stay over. Your mum is just in the next room and your dad, pardon stepdad, should be home soon. I wouldn't want to look an unbefitting in-law already. He grinned wildly as he said this, noticing with outright chagrin that his smile had actually been sincere but her response was to take him unaware.
She started sobbing uncontrollably and before Kelechi knew what was happening, she had burst into a wail. She capriciously chucked the television remote controller she had been holding and flung herself to the ground, with her feet hitting the mahogany table and spilling the hot tea all over. "Oh no! You're just like them all! I thought you were different, I thought you loved me, but you only deceived me. Oh no! Oh Kelechi!! Why?!" She wailed on, swinging her hands forth and back in reckless abandon. Kelechi was stunned. In fact stunned wouldn’t effectively describe his state then, he was dumbfounded. He thought about bolting through the door and running his way to the comfort of his room but remembered that she was holding his phone. She had used the torch to search for the shirt she gave him, plus thoughts of how he was going to navigate his way past the death trap of a canal while running worried him. Did she suffer from bipolar? Was she schizophrenic? Was she battling with mental issues. These and many more plagued Kelechi's mind as he bent to console her. He was already crying himself, he wondered what his parents would be doing at this time. Probably, settled in the dining table for dinner. They always had dinner early, his father would be regaling his mum about his day's experience and an enviable hearty laughter would engulf them. Pearl's shrilling wail brought him out of his reverie.

"It's okay Pearl honey." The sound of the word honey suddenly disgusted him. "You are the only one I love and I won't ever deceive you. The one reason I have to leave is because I have a test by 7am tomorrow morning and I can't afford to miss it, but I'll make you a promise." Her countenanced changed and she stopped crying, lifting her face expectantly. Kelechi mentally scanned through several promises he had used on other of his catches but couldn't find any that would aptly suit that moment. "I would be back tomorrow morning once the test is over, I promise, trust me." He said the words with such pain and sadness that he was sure she would realize they weren't meant but she just widened her eyes. "Are you sure? If so, then it's okay. But you would still stay till nine before you leave." Kelechi nodded. At this point arguing with her could prove disastrous. She got up and handed him her dead father's shirt which he hastily took. They then settled on the couch where she brought out her phone and started showing him her chats with other guys. He opened his mouth in shock at some and for others feigned a hearty laughter. He was scared to ask her for his phone.
Suddenly she looked up. "Aren't you bored? I don't feel alright. Hold on and I'll be back." Kelechi nodded again, it had become his default response to all her statements. As soon as she left he got up to search around for his phone. He looked everywhere but couldn't find anything. He decided to climb a stool to check the top of the wardrobe but the squeaking sound of the stool attracted her. "What are you doing honey?" She rushed back into the room, but by then he was already on the couch, his buttocks just managing to touch the soft surface of the cushion as she came in. "Nothing at all, I've been here waiting for my darling." She eyed him suspiciously then smiled mildly.
By now it was already totally dark outside. She brought out a brown substance and poured it into a wrap which she rolled in two places and handed one to him with a sinister smile plastered on her face. "Have this. Let's smoke our love hotter." Kelechi was agitated. He had been experiencing mixed emotions that night but never expected to feel the way he felt then. Whether she was dumb or mentally unstable, he didn't care, he was never going to smoke tobacco to satiate her mental desires. He resolved at this point to find a way out of his mess. "Pearl, no. I don't smoke, but I'm not against you smoki..." He didn't complete the sentence, the glittering knife she sprung from behind her stopped the words in his throat. "Smoke this Kel!!" He took the wrap slowly with regrets etched all over his face and lighted it. "P, don't do thi..." "Don't force me to use this knife my friend! Smoke it!" Kelechi couldn't hold it then. He burst into tears as he lifted the round paper to puff a smoke, choking terribly as the smoke entered his lungs. "Wawuu!!! That's my man!" Pearl was jumping and clapping, definitely this was a demon who had escaped from the abyss, he reasoned. She kept jubilating though, dancing, shrieking and jumping all in one single movement and in one impetus split-second action, Kelechi pushed her and ran out.
The rain outside was blinding and he didn't even know where he was running to, all the landmarks he'd noted suddenly weren't familiar, still he ran on. He was wearing only one half of his pair of socks, his shoes scattered about in his haste to escape. He felt a sharp pain somewhere around his arm and checked to see a big knife cut, obviously he had not only left his phone behind but had also injured himself. He didn't care though, all that mattered was finding safety. He was still running at a very fast pace and there were no lights anywhere where he could seek help. Suddenly he sighted the canal, the precarious death trap. He exhaled loudly and made a sign of the cross as he realized he was close to the bus-stop. Catching himself subconsciously praying to God for survival, something he had never done except on Sundays during church worship sessions, Kelechi shook his head in obvious disappointment. He was approaching the bridge now and decided he was going to offer a thanksgiving in church if he survived this day. However, just as he got to the middle of the bridge, using the slimy rails to support himself, he heard that terribly familiar voice from behind again.

A DATE TO REMEMBER (3)

Pearl looked back and smiled. This time her smile wasn’t as welcoming as earlier. "That place is called Ugbi's death trap . A lot of people have reportedly lost their lives there. It is even rumored anyone who attempted rebuilding or repairing the bridge didn't live to see three sunsets." She sardonically smiled again as she pulled the straps of the umbrella and closed it, by now the rain had reduced to drizzles. Kelechi quavered. What had he gotten himself into, he mused. He imagined what would be happening back on campus. Perhaps Mr. Innocent, his Business Law lecturer whom everyone disliked for his superciliousness would be rounding off his class. Twice he had been humiliated by the man in class and that was why the decision to abscond from his lecture wasn't difficult to take.
He remembered the first time vividly. It had been raining that day also. He had gone to return his matriculation gown back to the student affairs division where he loaned it from. A clear warning had been given that anyone who failed to return the gown at the slated expiration date would not only have to pay the full cost of the gown but would also serve a compulsory after-school detention for two weeks. He had waited till the last day to comply, people like him couldn't afford to struggle with other students on long queues. As soon as he walked into the class Mr Innocent had directed him to come to the front of the class. He remembered how he had walked timidly with apologetic eyes, he was still innocently green. He had explained the reason for his lateness to the lecturer but Mr. Innocent wasn't known for his magnanimity. He had stood him in front of the class throughout the duration of the lecture and even when he begged to be excused to ease himself, the slowpoke had only laughed and made mockery of his tacky, non-fitting dress combination. He had even called him a fashion misfit and the class had laughed raucously over the joke of the slowpoke, though he was palpably now the slowpoke. He chuckled slightly as he thought about the seamless reversal of roles, something he had always exceled at during his time with the drama unit back in high school. Oftentimes he was made to simultaneously perform dual roles, and he fulfilled every expectation with perfection. However this current play he found himself starring in was of a totally different kind.
His mind returned to the present. They were passing a big structure now which he recognized as a religious building. He squinted his eyes to read what was written on the sign board just outside the building. He had been taking mental notes of all the landmarks on their way to Pearl's home from the bus-stop. There was this lingering ominous air that clung tightly to him and he wanted to be readily prepared for the worst case scenario. Kingdom Hall of Jehovah's Witnesses . He gaped as he thought of his bible study conductor. Her name was Miss Emily and just during the past weekend they had discussed about the ills of having a rendezvous with someone of the opposite sex without a mature chaperone around. Kelechi sighed again, the handwriting had clearly been on the wall but his refusal to read it was driving him to his doom now, well probably. He could have just been overreacting all along, he counseled himself
Then a thought occurred to him as he remembered one of the many advice his mum never failed to regal him with whenever they talked on the phone, it was even her favorite mantra. The shrewd one sees the danger and conceals himself but the inexperienced keep right on going and suffers the consequences. So he decided to try and see if he could courteously avoid this danger. "Hey Pearl honey?" He called to his mental tormentor. "Yes Kel" She often called him Kel whenever she felt remorse over something she had done or said, perhaps an auspicious sign Kelechi thought. "I was just thinking. How about I go back home? I'm tired already and it's getting late. Probably we will arrange to meet another time during the we..." She didn't let him finish though as a flash of something he recognized as anger blitzed across her face before changing to concern. It was so fast that it could be missed, but Kelechi saw it; the final confirmation that he was in for a sinister evening. "Never! I've waited this long to meet you, it can't be for nothing. Don't worry we're there already, that brown building is my house." She responded, pointing to a house just a stone throw from where they stood. He only nodded, lost for the exact words to reply her with. She flung her arms around his shoulders then, making a futile attempt to remind him of the intimate moment they had shared online. But Kelechi was having none of it, he had lost every bit of interest he once had. He didn't know why he couldn't muster the courage to insist on his leaving, it seemed a spell had been cast on him. With resignation he conceded that he was no match for girls who played hard to get and that he would stick to his niche if he ever got out of his present mess unscathed.

MOON WALKER 2
[THE DARK MOON]
CHAPTER 2

Sally listened through telepathy and yes! She could hear the hearts of a thousand people in the castle beating hard for fear! Kara has shown no sign of life since she was thrown into the pool and Sara was already an impending explosion, ready to burn the castle to the ground.
Minutes gone it was quite obvious the lad would not make it, the ground on which Sara stood began to vibrate.
"All of you, get out now!"
Arthur screamed when he saw Sara going Meta, he knew if she did, it would be the end of the refuge.
Her eyes glowed white and her dragone could be heard in a distance, roaring with fire as it approached the refuge!
Her staff stood upright, her veins all stretched up to her eyes and then she swiftly took hold of the staff and let out a loud scream! The force field around her went for and explosion that would rend the castle in two but someone stopped it, someone small and little.
Kara teleported out of the pool and stood just in time when Sara let out an explosive wrath of her powers. As young as she was, she could not help but get scared, unintentionally her powers were loosed and in a twinkle of an eye, she returned time. She watched as her father called for everyone to evacuate the building, she watched as Sally hurried to throw her into the pool, she watched as Arthur tried persuading Sara to throw her into the pool, she watched as Sara had waved the keeper off and drew her back her back into her arms. It was all confusing to her small mind and when it seemed she was in another world where things were moving backwards she cried with her tiny voice.
"Make it stop"
And it did stop with the keeper instructing
"Throw her into the pool"
And as expected Sara screamed out.
"What!"

"Mum?"
Kara called and all eyes turned to her. Sara searched for Kara in her arms but she realized her arms were folded to her chest with no lad in it. She would have swore she had Kara in her arms, and for the record Kara was dying, how the hell is she standing before her all well?

"Well well well, what do we have here? A time shifter I see"
It seemed only the keeper understood what had transpired.
She picked Kara into her arms and whispered.
"You would do wonders little one"
But then it began to get ugly as the moon went dark immediately, the child was awake and it didn't take long for the moon elites to realise that.
The weather began to get set for mass destruction but the keeper had a plan B, she wore the child a necklace and viam! The weather cleared up!

"What's that? What did you put on her?"
Sally questioned suspiciously.

"It's the canvan bracelet, moulded into a necklace"
The keeper explained and gave the child to her mother.
Sara folded her child in her arms so strongly, she never wanted to let go but she knew she had to, she had to leave Kara in the care of the refuge now. Her presence in the refuge would only draw enemies to her daughter.
She was going to go back to the castle and raged thunder on each and every one of them.
But the keeper had another agenda, after the evening's meal both Sara, Arthur and Sally fell into a deep slumber. The keeper had soiled their food with an enchantment that they should remain asleep forever; well of course the only witch powerful enough to break such spell was Ariel who had been murdered by Gaza.
She had them locked up in a tomb deep beneath the castle.
"Why would you do that to them Simra"
The keeper's true follower, Lia questioned
"It's for the best, Kara would never learn if she has the understanding that her parents would always be there for her. She has to believe they left her behind."
The keeper explained.
"But that would break her"
Lia tried to make a point
"No it would make her angry and an angry Kara is what I need"

"What if she finds out we are responsible for her parents disappearance?
"
Simra, the keeper, took a little time to reply Lia. She had Kara in her arms; she smolded the little girl's hair who slept peaceably and after giving it a deep thought she replied.
"Well let's hope she never finds out, else we are all doomed"

MOONWALKER 2
[THE DARK MOON]

CHAPTER 1

Sara stood with both hands as she stared at her child sleeping peaceably in her father's arm. They were laying to rest for the night, it has been a long journey from the castle, and now weariness is written all over their faces.
Sara listened for a threat and was sure there wasn't any before she dropped staff to reach for Arthur.
"How is she?"
She asked and touched the child's burning skin...
"I don't know Sara, she is not getting any better"

"Lemme see"
It was Sally, she dug both her swords into a fig tree before she moved on to touch Kara, Sara's child. She lingered for a while before she ran her fingers through the lad's white coloured hair and then with a smile she reassured Sara.
"She is going to be fine once we get to the refuge"
Although she knew deep within her that the child might not make it there alive if they encounter bulwarks on the way.
"This would have been easy if we were in the palace, there are hundreds of healers that would help"
Sara lamented but then she remembered the palace is a lion's den for them now. Of course she can sweep off every soul in the palace but then her child would be long dead before she accomplishes that.
Sometimes she felt she was being stupid for standing for the moonelites in times of war and harmful threats, she regretted fighting and winning their battles. How could they do this to her? How could they hunt her and her child like they are some curse?

"How could they do this me? How could they do this to us Arthur?"
Arthur didn't share in her hatred, he had a better understanding. Sally was strangely quiet this time, she usually has a word to say but this time it was different.
"Sara you just have to understand that people would do anything when they are scared, even if it's to harm one of their own. They would soon realise that we are not the enemy"
Arthur was one father that has bluntly refused the prophesy that reveals his daughter as demon, as the doom of the planet moon, even when all the signs pointed towards his daughter.
Sara watched the affection in his eyes as he stroke the little girl's hair while singing her to sleep.
"We would find a solution soon Sara, just relax"
Sally had become friendly with Sara after the defeat of Gaza, Sara is the only person who made her go meta, a state of her powers full to the brim, she never imagined she could reach that point but Sara made it possible.
Sara stayed awake through the night and made sure the others were up early to resume their journey.
Kara was growing worse, her skin began to grow pale, at a point the canvan bracelet began to heat up on her skin.
"What the Bleep"
Sally made Arthur halt the horses when she noticed the canvan bracelet heat up to the extent it melted and burned Kara's skin.
The lad winced weakly in pain, but then within seconds the wound inflicted healed up.
"Sara? Arthur?"
Sally called and alighted from the cart to meet both Sara and Arthur who were strangely quiet.
"Arthur the bracelet, it's gone"

"That would be me, I did that"
A young lad spoke out from a thick smoke hovering over them in the woods.
"She doesn't need the bracelet anymore, she is safe"
Another voice spoke out
"What's that?"
Sara asked when she was not seeing anyone talk.
"Greetings oh great priestess, we are the four walls of the refuge"
Sara eyes went wide...
"We are here?"
She questioned because she wasn't seeing any proof around her, but then, as soon as she asked the thick smoke evaporated and slowly the big castle before them revealed itself.
"Here Kara would find peace, she would be free, welcome to the refuge"

AUTHORITY ARROGANCE: NDLEA impudence.

A drugs law officer stopped at a farm near Odeda in Ogun state, and talked with an old farmer.

He told the farmer, "I need to inspect your farm for illegally grown drugs."

The farmer said, "Okay , but don't go in that field over there.....", as he pointed out the location.

The drugs squad officer verbally exploded saying, "Mister, I have the authority of the Government with me."

Reaching into his rear trouser pocket, he removed his official ID card and proudly displayed it to the farmer.

"See this ID card? This ID card means I am allowed to go wherever I wish. On any land !! No questions asked or answers given !! Have I made myself clear. Do you understand ?"

The old farmer nodded politely, apologized, and went about his chores.

A short time later, the old farmer heard loud screams, looked up, and saw the drugs squad officer running for his life, being surrounded by a swarm of wild bees
The officer was clearly terrified.
The old farmer threw down his tools, ran to the fence and shouted at the top of his lungs.........
Stop running & Show them your ID card...oh...!!"‎

A DATE TO REMEMBER (2)

He was the only child of his parents, the Omotayos, who were not particularly rich nor poor, but they always made sure he had everything he needed at his disposal. Perhaps his intelligence was the assurance they needed to spur them on or the bitter acceptance of the grim knowledge that his mother couldn't bear another child. She had undergone an operation for fibroid and the family had duly decided she wasn’t to get pregnant again to avoid any further complications. Everything had changed though as soon as he had begun his tertiary education away from the eagle eyes of his parents; he finally had the freedom he had always craved and didn't fall to utilize it. His handsome features meant he never stopped receiving attention from members of the opposite sex and even though he didn't show commitment to anyone, they never stopped coming. In his second year in the institution, he won the award for the Most Handsome Law Student and this brought him further into the spotlight.
However Kelechi was tired of being the center of attraction. He was tired of being on the receiving end of inviting smiles and sensual gestures, he wanted more difficult adventures, ladies who would play hard and that was what had drawn him to Pearl the moment their parts crossed. Pearl had rebuffed his attempts to begin a conversation on numerous occasions. In one instance she had even vowed to trace him and do weird things to him if he didn't steer clear. But this only further fueled Kelechi's interest, he had found a worthy challenge and he didn't plan to lose, at least not yet. He kept hounding after her until she finally conceded defeat and gave him a chance. Since then he hadn't looked back and now they were as close as ever, all that was left was meeting her in person which he was going to complete soon.
In less than twenty-five minutes he was at the bus stop, finding shelter under the roof of an electronics store. The rain was still pouring and one part of him wanted it to continue that way as it would afford him the opportunity to sleep over at Pearl's home. He licked his lips at the thought of several possible scenarios, none involved him going back to campus that night. He decided to call his host then to inform her of his arrival. "Hello P. I'm at the bus stop now." He shouted into the receiver as soon as she'd picked. "Oh no! I had been trying your number to tell you not to bother coming since the weather was getting really unfriendly." He impatiently grumbled something incoherent into the receiver as she paused briefly. "I wouldn't want you being uncomfortable on our first date. Hold on though, I'll be there with an umbrella soon." She concluded, ending the connection before he even had a chance to say anything. He shivered, aware that he might be battling a cold shortly. Soon enough though, he saw a figure smiling and waving at him from across the street. He was stunned at what he was seeing but recovered in time to close his parted lips and return the smile as he ran out to meet her.

She was a total opposite of what he had envisaged, he realized, as he made silent curses on whoever had invented photo editing applications. The sexy, curvaceous Pearl he had stayed late into the night chatting with and had spent hours talking with on the phone was totally different from the gargoyle smiling at him. This one had red eyes with a short scar just close to her left ear. He gaped, shocked at the realization that It looked like something she might have gotten during a bottle fight. Her legs were very tiny while her hitherto full hips looked nonexistent, even her face that had shone so brightly in her pictures had numerous black spots and her complexion reeked of shoddy skin-lightening products; she needed to take classes on proper skin bleaching procedures, he thought. Her palms were also very strong, like someone who had been weightlifting and to crown it all, she had the tattoo of a scorpion on her left arm. He felt instantly uneasy and wished he had listened to Sarah and stayed behind.
"I'm really sorry to see you experience this. Follow me, let's get to my home, it's just at the corner," Pearl offered. But Kelechi was lost in thoughts. Why on earth hadn't he asked for her full pictures, he thought, as it dawned on him all her pictures he had seen were selfie shots. He was going to be sharing the next hours with an imp. He shook his head slightly, that noun was even less descriptive, she was as amorphous as anyone could imagine. He sighed again, not knowing which word would better qualify her, and this time his sigh was loud, he didn't bother hiding his discontent. "Oh, are you cold? Awwn! Alright come closer, let me hold you. We'll be home soon." She volunteered sincerely as she intertwined her left arm around his, wrapping them closer while using her right hand to handle the tiny umbrella.
"Never mind, I'm okay." Kelechi ruefully replied. He was going to make sure he left when the slightest opportunity presented itself, whenever that would be. What would his roommates be thinking now? Perhaps he was cuddled close to pretty Pearl, or they were both sat on her couch, legs folded, skimming through her photo album or he was probably getting himself lost in intimate sessions with her. He cursed himself again, gritting his teeth. He had definitely used every means to flaunt his latest online catch to them, and hadn't even listened when Waheed his religiously-inclined bunkmate had suggested he thread cautiously by first seeing a natural picture of her. His other roommate, Philip, was more socially active, or so he had thought, after all Philip was the most sought after in his department, The Department of Dentistry, under the School of Medicine. Philip had been the one to suggest he visited Pearl this late so that if things eventually went smoothly he could have her name written boldly in the long list of ladies he'd conquered. He wished the rain had started before he even found a bus, he wished her phone call to him had gone through and their plans had been cancelled, he wished the test which was previously scheduled to hold that evening before being moved to the next day had held, but those were just few of the many wishes he would be
They walked in silence as Pearl led the way, trying with little success to avoid the squishy parts of the narrow road. They went past a dilapidated secondary school that had the look of a cemetery before crossing over to join some school boys who were waiting their turn to use the lone bridge across a canal. The tiny wood that served as the footpath over the canal was nothing near sturdy. It was termite-ridden and perilously bent in several places and as they meticulously navigated their way past, the bridge creaked in obvious agony. Kelechi couldn't help but wonder to himself how many people would have been buried under the black unpleasant waters below, the place could metaphorically pass as a junction of death. He exhaled deeply as soon as their feet touched solid ground, using the back of his hand to wipe the beads of perspiration that had come to settle on his forehead, at that point he wasn't sure whether it was sweat or droplets of water from the rain.

A DATE TO REMEMBER (1) Author [IGBOANU WALTER]

It was few minutes past 5:00pm when Kelechi wiped the spec of dirt that had found its way to the lower part of his black jeans. He was strutting the lone road that led outside the campus on his way to see a friend he'd met just eight days back on a social platform. Her name was Pearl as she'd told him though he suspected it wasn't her popular appellation. It was the normal routine with ladies to use far more appealing names online, at least until they become familiar with their chatter. "Hey, where are you off to handsome?" He looked up to see who had cut into his thoughts and quickly put on a broad smile on realizing it was Sarah, one of his numerous crush. He remembered the short moment of pleasure they had shared back in their first year when he was sick and she had visited him. She had liked it but had feigned anger and he had apologized blaming the drugs he was on. They were now in their third year and had had other fleeting moments of fun despite her being in a serious relationship. Kelechi himself wasn't the faithful type, he hated being stuck with one person and his unending list of admirers helped his cause.
At 6'3" he looked quite the imposing figure. He was fair with broad shoulders and side beards that extended down both sides of his face to settle under his chin. His dental features were also enviable, sparkling white teeth with a little space in-between the incisors. Many times in public when he had smiled, he hadn't failed to notice the admirable glances he attracted. "I'm off to Ugbioko to see a friend. Should be back before it's dark." He replied while rubbing her palm after they had separated from their intimate hug. "Can't you see it's about to rain already? Can't you go sometime later?" She asked with sincere concern. "I'll be back before it starts," he replied as he looked up to see the hazy clouds and wondered again if it was worth taking the risk to see Pearl. He had sacrificed his last lecture scheduled for 4:00pm. He had also had to forgo his religious commitments slated for that day and now was daring a torrid evening if he eventually got beaten by the rain. Still, he shrugged his shoulders and sighed. Pearl was worth it, he reasoned.
Pearl was quite fair, tall and classy. She was his perfect type, one that ticked all the boxes. She stayed with her parents in Benin although they were of Yoruba descent. According to her, her family had to relocate to Benin from Lagos when her dad died and her mother remarried. She was the only child of her mother just like him and was very ambitious, she had even won the award for the most enterprising student in the whole of Benin. She also spoke fluent English and French, was the Deputy Commandant of the Edo Red Cross Society and was a computer geek. All these were what she had told him that had pushed him to insist on their physical meeting so he could personally appraise her and probably, explore other parts of her. Who knows he might finally have found someone who would tie him down. He smiled again, remembering how he had sent a picture of his hairy chest on her request and how she had reciprocated by calling him to talk for three straight hours. They had simply had this spontaneously enviable chemistry between them that had been missing in his other relationships and he was willing to explore this one, wherever it led him to.
He had unusually waited outside the campus gate for almost twenty minutes for a bus when he found one that had obviously seen better days. The front wore the insignia, Fear God while the sides were disproportionately arranged with scratches indiscriminately plastered all over obviously due to near crashes with other cars. As he struggled to fit his burly self into the back seat, the rain began in torrents, the initially bright atmosphere turning blustery in mere seconds. He groaned inside realizing he would after all be facing extreme difficulty getting a bus back. Thoughts of his days as a freshman in the University of Benin came rushing in. He had gotten admitted to study Law as the candidate with the second highest score and candidly he wasn't surprised when he was made aware of the feat. Throughout high school he had never missed the first or second position. He was a regular contestant at various competitions, and had won individual and collective awards both at local and national level. The most notable was the Lagos State Governor's Award for Intelligence. He had beaten 27 other contestants to emerge winner of a really tricky debate and that was why the management of his school didn't hesitate to make him senior prefect by the time he was in senior class three.

LiteratureMoon Walker 2 [the Dark Moon] Onyeneke Abel by Abelosas222(op):
Okay I am back with the second series of this blockbuster moon walker, enjoy.

MOON WALKER 2
[THE DARK MOON]

Intro:

'It's been 5years of peace, fives years after the defeat of Gaza. We all thought it was all over; well for a moment if felt like it. And hey, I broke the sacred rule, I got married to Arthur and yes, I stood against anyone who tried to oppose our Union. For crying out loud I am in love with this man, whoever had made up that God forsaking rule did it out of selfish reasons! Damn the consequences, my sister Tori paid the consequences already and I would not let it be in vain...
Her desire was I find happiness, and there is no better happiness than being in the hands of Arthur...
So yeah, my mind was made up and I got married to the man of my dreams. I had always dreamt of my first child, would it be a boy or a girl? If it's a boy, I was sure he would look like his father and if it's a girl then it should be me. During this times, one thought kept refused to blink, what if my child has powers like me, or even more than me. Few months after my wedding to Arthur things went smoothly, the kingdom was still in good hands until I got a vision of an impending doom at the birth of a child, a child who would cause the dark moon. I was so certain of the day this child would be born, and so I resolved to alert the council the next day. But then, I discovered I was pregnant! With a child. I had to keep this revelation a secret, even from my husband.
Months later the moon elites can see my protuding tummy and there are gossips on how my child would look like. Right from inside my tummy she could already move object with her mind, she could control my thoughts and communicate with me. There is no doubt then, I was sure she was going to be extremely powerful enough to be a tyrant, just like the one I saw in my vision.
"She carries a demon in her womb! It is as a result of the abominable marriage she had, the elites had decided to punish her and punish this generation for permitting this foolishness"
First of all it was a seer like me who had the guts to pout this nonsense! My child a demon? What fallacy. I smote the old man who could not keep his mouth shut... All the elites put together would not dare challenge me.
Sally was with me on this one, my child cannot be a demon. And Arthur, well you know he would do anything for his child.
Finally it is a girl, I was in labour for 3 days and the moment my child graced the land of the living the moon went dark. I could not see her beautiful eyes cos it was all dark, bloody dark.
The winds settled on the palace roof top, and the ocean divided in two, a sudden storm caused a hundreds of shipwreck. Arthur had to entrust her tender hands to a canvan bracelet!
It was confirmed! She is a demon! An abomination, an offspring of my sin.
The people I sacrificed everything for turned against me! They were going to kill my daughter, they called me a mother to a demon...
Kivach the army commander led a war against me and my daughter. Of course Sally stood with me and so did Arthur. We left the palace in search of a refuge for my daughter...
Now we are hunted not by hundreds of bounty hunters, hungry beast in search of my daughter's powers but also by my own people (the moon elites) who once served me.
I fear for my daughter, her powers is too much. I feel it's going to explode inside of her.
I fear not for her safety but for what she is going to become, would it be a savior, or a demon?'

Sara tossed her diary to fire set in the woods, she had written all that needs to be said. Now it's war for survival, and if anyone should be enlightened, they should be thoroughly taught that she would walk through hell for her daughter... And if they want war, she'll give it to them...

LOVE IS A GAME
CHAPTER 31

"Davies?"
Jane couldn't believe what she saw, it was too good to be true. Maybe she didn't see right. It was Davies, all dress up, well shaved and clean with his usual vigour. His masculinity had been rekindled and as he approached Jane from down the stairs, his cologne tagged along.
Jane's sudden questionably call brought the maids to the scene. They all stood with mouth agape.
"Clean up my room, I would be out for a while"
He ordered and went past Jane like she didn't exist. Jane called Jonas immediately to reveal the goodnews.
"Are you serious, thank you my dear, you are indeed a Savior, I knew only you could bring back my son"
Jonas had ended the call when she realised she wasn't the right person to receive such praise. She knew Coco has come visiting, and that it was the reason for Davies' sudden revival.
"I know it's you Coco, my instincts can't be wrong, I heard Davies talking to someone and it's you! you keep getting in my way, just wait until I crush you"
***
"Why do you want to join the brotherhood Davies, your Father is one of the richest in the city, why would you choose to mingle with the streets?"
Jack questioned Davies.
Jack was the leader of a gang popular known as the resistance, it was a group of black Americans fighting for equality. They were Kings of the streets, it was just the only place Davies thought would be good to achieve his goal.
"I just want to fight with you guys"
"You lie man, I see vengeance in your eyes, perhaps you can thrill me, who is this man or unfortunate people?"
There was no point denying it, Davies revealed his true intentions.
"Edward? The scorpion?"
The frown on Jack's face was one that revealed he knew Edward very well.
"Boy you are biting more than you can chew, you can't defeat the scorpion, he is a demon, it's best you let him be and save yourself"
Jack was going to stop Davies but the bundle of cash that landed on his hands made him rethink.
"There is more were that came from, just teach me all I need to know, and let my fate be decided, if I win, well good, if I die, I die fighting for a good cause"
Jack sighed with the cash bouncing in his hands, he narrowed his eyes as if looking for something in Davies' eyes.
"She must be one lucky woman that you would go to the ends of hell to fight for her"
Davies frowned, he was amazed on how Jack could read his every thought when he didn't say a word
"Don't worry, I would teach you how to read people, how to read their next move even before they make it, you have a lot to learn, but if you put your mind to it, well who knows, within a few years you would be ready"
Davies disagreed immediately.
"I don't have years, months would do, please be hard on me, whatever it would take for me to learn all I need to know"
Jack loved his Davies' willpower but it was nothing but foolishness to him, he knew Davies was only walking into a dead trap; There was no way he would defeat Edward.
"Alright Davies, if you insist. First you must know that we are resistance fighters, we defend what is ours, we don't kill without a cause, we are not armed robbers, we are not thugs, we..."
Davies cleared his throat to interrupt.
"Emm, I know all these stuffs, I searched you guys on the internet, can we start now"
"Patience boy, why not come back tomorrow and we start by initiating you into the brotherhood"
It sounded too late to Davies but Jack was persistent till he had to succumb.
***
"Son, it's good to have you back. I knew Jane was the right woman for you, see what she has done, I am so proud of her"
Jonas came visiting and found Davies seated with his brothers in the dinning room. Davies exchanged pleasantries and corrected the moment everyone was settled.
"Jane didn't do anything. And Dad I don't really know what she is doing in this house, she has to leave"
Jane was first to bang the table in anger and Jonas followed to back her up. She overheard Davies while she approached the dinning room, she didn't hesitate to react, she was confident of the back up she had.
"She is going nowhere!"
"Yes daddy, tell him! Davies I love you and you are stuck with me whether you like it or not"
Davies didn't have to think twice, he stood up and revealed just what he had in mind.
"Then I am moving out of the house, it's either this witch goes, or I do"
***
"Boss, it's Davies on the recruitment list, I couldn't believe it myself"
Luke revealed to Edward. There was nothing in the streets that got past Edward, he had eyes everywhere.
Edward laughed till his eyes went red.
"Do I snuff him out?"
Luke meant the inevitable death, but Edward disagreed.
"No not yet, our hero is in love, let's see how this love game will turn out, I sincerely hope our hero can play this game of chess, this is the street, people wind up dead with just a snap of my finger"
Luke allowed a minute of silence before he went on to ask.
"So what now boss?"
"Now it's game on"

LOVE IS A GAME
CHAPTER 29

3 months later

"Its June 15 Davies, like it's been three months now Davies, three months and here you are like the world is over? Why can't you move on with your life, I bet the so called Coco has forgotten about you already"
Jane poured it out, she couldn't bear to see Davies now, she couldn't look at him. He had not gotten a good shave for months, his beards were all over his face in a repelling manner. The stench from his room proved that it had not been attended too either, bottles of beer were at every corner of the room. All Jane saw was a disorganized man on his laptop day and night, he was a mess. She wondered what he was doing, what was so special about his laptop? What is he looking for?
"Davies I am talking to you"
He was mute and busy with his laptop, his eyes were fixed that it seemed as if no one was in the room except for him.
She felt her adrenaline burn, he was ignoring her on purpose and he was going to pay for it.
She stood up and gave him a hit on his arm. Suddenly he stopped typing, his concentration left his laptop and with red eyes she had never seen before he warned.
"Don't ever touch me again"
She was wise to heed to his warnings. One part of her mind began to flinch, she has to leave this man again, he is not ready.
No! Another said, Davies has to see that she stood with him in times of pain, that way he would learn to love her. She watched him with a mixture of pity and digust, even in her absence, Coco was still able to stand in her way, why won't Coco just die for good so Davies would be all hers.
"Any improvement?"
Jonas eyes were full of hope, perhaps Jane had done something to help his son out of his mystery, but the shake of Jane's head in disagreement made him realize his son was gone for good.
"I don't know Daddy, despite all I do, despite all the gifts I bought, I even prepared his favorite meal, yet he wouldn't even give me a chance"
She lamented and stood with her hand bag in between her hands.
"You've tried your best my dear"
Jonas brought her in for an embrace and signalled Callis to try; but Callis being Callis waved his hands at the suggestion and suggested Jake instead.
He knew his brother well, until he gets what he wants there is nothing anybody would do to snap him out of his reverie, so there was no point wasting his time.
"You are not man enough, you can't save the woman you love!"
Those words replayed in Davies head over and over again, it was the same word he heard countless times.
"Look at her Davies, see, you can't save her, you are not man enough"
He tightened his grip and with a flash he threw down the bottles of beer he set beside his bed.
Jane was first to enter but his sudden thunderous voice made her shiver.
"Get out!"
He slammed the door against her.
***
"Coco, I've been patient with you, and I tell you I am becoming to lose my patience, huh? What is wrong with you?"
Edward sat beside Coco on the large mattress placed in the middle of a spacious room. Her hands and leg were tied to the bed, there was no slim chance to escape. She had tried countless times to plan but each time she had failed.
"I missed you huh, I missed your body"
He took towards her and attempted to sniff her neck down to her breast like he always do but this time she stopped him when she spat on his face; she knew what the repercussion would be and she was prepared for it.
A slap followed and sent her lips swollen.
"Bitch" he cursed and held her by her neck.
"I should have you now, and tear you apart, it's been years and I miss being inside you, but I don't want to force myself you, I want you to love me like you use to, like old times huh?"
She was quiet, too quiet that it infuriated him.
"Huh!" He released her neck and cupped her cheeks with one hand.
"The only reason you are still alive is because my hands are tied"
She threatened and she meant it, all she needed was a slim chance to slit his throat. Whichever way possible she was going to make sure she ends his life for real.
"Do you hate me that much? Huh? I gave you life Christiana Tosin! I sent you to school, I taught you everything you know and yet you hate me? And yet..."
"And yet you took my pride"
She interrupted and erred her bitter heart.
"You took my dignity, you made me worthless, you made me live with a scar for years, you took my soul and gave me ashes. Do you know how I felt each time you parted my legs to satisfy your needs, even when I tried to fight back, you would hit me till I have no strength left, all I was to you was a tool to satisfy your needs, I was merely a tool, you never loved me"
Somehow Edward felt abused, he didn't understand why Coco would see his actions as something evil, it was his right to have his girl anytime he wants, why would she be offended by it?
"So what now? Its that fool Davies you want, huh Christiana?"
It was unlike Coco to talk back to him, but the new Coco he met wasn't the one he once knew, without hesitation she nodded and replied
"Yes, I would chose him over and over again. I love him, and he would be a better man than you would ever be"
Another annoying slap smacked her face hard that her eyes voluntary poured out tears.
"You fool, what if I tell you that this Davies you love so much is the reason why you found yourself in streets? Huh? Would you still love him? What if you know what his father has done in the past, would you still love him?"
Coco made a pause to think wide now, she did notice Jonas act like he was hiding something, she couldn't stop the urge that gave her the push to ask.
"What has Jonas done in the past?"

CHAPTER 30
"Boss?"

It was the perfect intruder who stopped Edward from spilling the one secret that could change everything.

"Boss?"
"Yes Luke, what is it?"

Luke was a loyal sidekick to Edward, he was Edward's favorite.

"It's urgent boss, we would have to talk, alone"

Edward looked back Coco, he could read her expression, she didn't want him to go, she wanted him to spill the beans. He smiled and caressed her cheek.

"You wanna hear right? Don't worry love, I'll be back"

He turned to Luke

"Let her loose but she must not leave this room"

Luke did as he ordered and followed out when he was certain the door was locked.

"Boss we are loosing money, the client backed out, I think the police is on his tail"

Edward sighed with both hands on his waist, he realised he still needed Jonas for the money, good thing was he didn't spill the one secret he used as leverage against Jonas; that was his only ticket to his money, once the secret is spilled the money flow ends.

"Contact Jonas, tell him we need 5million dollars"

Luke made a bow and disappeared from his sight. Edward had a plan of his own, he was going to make sure his wealth would be the talk of the city, and that's when he has Jonas' company to himself, there would be only one person who would want to ruin his plans, Davies.

"I'm sure that guy is going to be a problem"

Luke said the obvious when Edward revealed his plans.

"I know, he is the only kid with willpower, the rest of them are cowards"
"So what then?"

Edward took a long sip from his cigarette.

"He'll have to die"

Coco heard this on her way out, Luke didn't notice she had an hair pin with which she could maneuver around the lock and get it open.

She stole out through the back door and knocked off two guards, jumped over the fence and landed hard on the other side.

Straightway she boarded a taxi to Davies, she knew the security wouldn't let her in, Jonas must have dropped strict orders to prevent that. She found a rod and dug several holes on the back fence to enable her climb in.

It was hard sneaking to Davies flat, the maids were strangely all over the place, and when she thought it was a piece of cake to handle, she saw Jane.

"Oh no"

She muttered.

Jane sat in the dinning room sipping from a tea cup. The only option that seemed possible to Coco was to climb up to the window pane.

"Davies?"

Her strenuous call came from her weakened bones, she was loosing grip already.

Davies was sure he heard right, this wasn't a dream, it was Coco's voice.

He whisked to the window and opened at the right time to grab her from falling.

She rushed into his arms and hugged him so tight with tears pouring from her eyes uncontrollably. They hugged and kissed hungrily, Davies felt life rush into his bones, he found himself smiling, this was Coco, it was Coco! But then it all went dry when she said.

"I have to go back to Edward"
"What? Why?"
"Davies if he doesn't see me, he would come for all of you. And this time he would show no mercy"

***

Jane felt the need to check on Davies, she had moved into the mansion already, as had promised Jonas to bring back the Davies he once knew, and to that, she insisted she had to move into the mansion.

"Hey come clean this up, I'm going to check on Davies" she ordered the maid.

***

"Davies, I came to tell you something, its very important, Edward, he his planning to..."
"Davies?" It was Jane, she was just close to the door.

"I have to go, Jane can't see me else Edward would know I came here, that would be big trouble"

Coco hurriedly gave Davies a deep kiss and hurried out through the window pane.

"I'll come for you"

Davies called to her when Jane entered.

"Come for who?"

She questioned with both hands on her waist.

"I asked a question Davies? Who were you talking to?"

She tried to go over to the window pane but Davies stood in her way.

"This is my room remember? Get out"

She was adamant this time, she knew Davies was hiding something, her instincts can't be wrong.

"No Davies, not until you tell me what you are hiding from me"

She pouted angrily and tried to push her way through when Davies picked her up onto his shoulders and dropped her metres away from his flat.

***

"Where is she!"

Edward questioned with red eyes; three men laid dead already.

"Boss, I swear I..."

The young man was not given a chance to explain, the bullet went straight to his head.

Another was picked on and beaten to death.

"I said where is she!!"

The rest of the men were trembling now, they knew Edward was ready to kill every last one of them for letting Coco slip past them.

"Am here Edward, am here"

Coco showed up breathlessly.

"You didn't have to kill all these men, I simply went for a walk, since you decided to cook me up in that room"

Edward picked an handkerchief to clean off the blood stains on on his hands.

He went close and landed a slap on her face

"You went to see Davies? Huh, you are lucky cos I was going to kill every last one of that prick family! Lock her up!"

***

Davies was certain he had found them, the elicit gang in the city, it was not his person, it was totally out of his way of life, he had spent months on his laptop, searching the internet for a perfect club to learn how to fight, to learn how to defend himself now he found it. To stop Edward, he needs to know the nook and crannies of the streets, he needs to know how to handle a gun.

He took his bath, had a good shave and changed into a Jean and a black jacket.

"I'm coming for you Coco"

CHAPTER 27

"Are you mad? Get your hands of me you witch!"

Davies raged at desperate Jane that she shivered.

"Easy sir"

He was warned before he realised he was in an ambulance.

"This should be the last time you hold me like that, you hear me?"

He warned and turned to his brother when Jane remained mute.

***

"Ma'am! Ma'am!!"

The securities called when Coco breezed past them, they had the boldness to come out of their hiding place now.

"What is it? Is Davies in? I want to see Davies"

Coco was going to whisk off when they called after her.

"They left for the hospital!"

She stopped and dug out her cell phone; minutes later she dashed out of the mansion after getting a perfect description from Callis.

"God please, keep Davies for me. I warned you Davies but you wouldn't listen"

She soliloquized while in a taxi.

"Please can you speed up, you are too slow"

She lashed at the middle aged man handling the steering.

"Well maybe you should get your own car so you won't have to ride in my slow car anymore, asshole"

She tightened her grip and felt like smacking a tooth off the man's mouth, but the thought of Davies was of utmost importance.

"Just speed up okay, I would appreciate that"

***

Jonas paced uncomfortably, many disturbing thoughts plagued his mind. Why would all these happen now, why would the sins of the past decide to hunt him now, why now? After all these years.

"Doctor!"

The doctor was out and all three men including Jane hurried to him with curious minds.

"He is going to be fine, he just lost a little blood,  nothing few vegetables can't handle"

They all sighed in relief, Davies had the time to deal with the pest clinging to him now.

"Okay you can go now Jane"

He turned to Jane with a bitter frown.

"She is going nowhere"

Jonas came to Jane's defense. Jane was the only way to wade off Coco, so he thought. Once Coco sees just how clinging Jane can be, eventually she would give up and somehow, Davies would come to love Jane again, afterall, first love never dies.

"What? Dad?"
"Yes son, she is the one for you, not Coco"

Jane smiled broadly at Jonas words and Coco could hear him clearly since she was already close.

Callis had to speak up now, he couldn't believe his father would want to put Davies through another trauma, what was his father up to.

"Dad I can't believe..."

His words got stuck when he saw Coco.

"Hallelujah the bait is here!"

He finished up his words and got everyone looking in Coco's direction.

"Coco" Davies muttered, his heart suddenly throbbed so fast, it happens anytime he saw her, it happens anytime he touches her. Despite Jane's efforts to hold him back he hurried to Coco and hugged her so tight like he was going to lose her.

"Coco, please you have to leave"

He warned the next moment. Jonas couldn't look at Coco's direction, this was the girl he rendered homeless, the girl he made an orphan, the girl he pushed into the streets to be traumatised, how could he bear to face her. But then, he needed her to save his family, he wouldn't mind if she dies in the process, Edward can do anything he wants with her, his family comes first.

"Get your hands off him you bitch"

Jane raged towards them, the jealousy that burned from within her was one that could cause havoc.

She pushed Coco from Davies and landed a slap on her face.

Coco didn't have to think twice, without hesitation she returned the slap with greater force that Jane staggered with a tear on her lips.

All three men froze at the scene and simply let the two ladies handle themselves for a while.

"What the hell?"

Jane realised her lips were bleeding already, she charged at Coco hoping to have revenge but Coco was way off her league. She caught Jane's arm this time, twisted and swept her off her feet to land her hard on the bare tiles.

Jane lost consciousness immediately, Callis hurried to call for the nurse, Jonas realised Coco was as dangerous as his researchers had presumed, Davies smiles proved he was proud of his wife.

"Bitch" Coco cursed and watched as Jane was towed away to an emergency Ward for resuscitation.

***

"Davies I have to go with him, it's the only way"

Coco tried convincing Davies when they got back home. They all sat waiting for Edward who had been contacted to come pick Coco.

"Davies please listen to her, the guy is going to kill us"

Callis joined in, he didn't understand why is brother would be so adamant about the issue. This was a matter of life and death, when would Davies realise that. Jonas had sent Violet and Stacy out of the country immediately, he planned to do the same to his sons once Jake was out of the hospital.

"Mind your business you dick!"

Davies lashed at him and turned to Coco, Jonas was strangely quiet, only Davies understood the reason for his sudden silence, he wouldn't dare speak to Coco.

"Coco please, I would contact the police, we would let the police handle this, Callis and my father would leave the country for a while, Jake would be transported out of the country to receive treatment as well. We can win this"

Coco shook her head, Davies was blinded by his love for her, she could see it. He wasn't thinking straight, he wasn't fully aware of what Edward was capable of.

"Listen Davies, before Edward came over to this house to request for me, he had taken care of all these options, don't you wonder why he took his time before he came over here? Like he knew I've been here all this while, Edward is...."
"Is your nightmare, your scariest dream and your fated calamity"

Edward arrived to finish up her words.

Coco froze in fear, her devilish past stood right in front of her.

With both hands tucked in his pocket and with his usual smiled he muttered.

"Hello love"

CHAPTER 26
"Edward?"

Jake eyes narrowed to a frown, he stood up as he placed both hands on his waist.

"You've met him before?"

Edward was there to answer.

"Yeah, countless times"

He stood up and started towards Davies

"Where is my girl Davies?"

He asked with a smile on his face. His smile was quite friendly but Davies knew there was an ulterior motive.

He made his way past him and picked Jake's phone on the dinning table before he answered.

"She is gone, she left this morning"

Edward smiled again with both hands in his pocket.

"Maybe you didn't hear me, where is Coco?"

Jonas could hear Edward's voice through the phone, Davies had called without saying anything. Jonas listened and the moment he heard Edward's voice he hurried to the mansion, he understood it was a voice of trouble.

"And i can only say the same thing, She is gone Edward, she left this morning"
"She is gone?" Callis questioned.

"What are you saying Davies, if the bitch is in some kind of trouble hand her over"

Callis continued and ignored even as Davies tried to communicate to him. He fathomed Coco to be in some kind of trouble, he didn't understand why his brother would chose to shield her, but not under his watch anyway, this would be his little way to have revenge on Coco.

The sound of the gun Edward dug out brought the boys to their knees. He release a bullet to Jake's arm and another to the large plasma hanging behind him.

Jake screamed for pain and fainted when he slipped off the chair.

"I don't like to play silly games kid, so I would ask again, where is my girl?"

Callis could feel something wet between his legs, it took him another minute to discover he had peed on his trousers.

"Edward!"

It was Jonas, the old man was on his heels as he hurried to shield his boys.

"Edward this wasn't the deal, you promised not to kill my boys"
"Yeah I did, and that's the reason he still breathes air"

Edward was pointing to Jake.

"All I need is my girl and I am outta here"

Jonas furious eyes turned to Davies

"Give him the girl"

Davies held his head, he didn't understand why no one believed him.

"Dad she is gone, I swear she left this morning before I woke up"

Jonas saw the truth in his son's eyes. He turned to Edward who still had his gun held up.

"Please Edward, he is telling the truth, the girl is gone already"

Edward withdrew his gun, and with his usual smile he replied.

"Well then, you all have a job now, I need Coco in the next 24 hours or the the deal is off, and you would all kiss the grave, one by one"

Edward was gone, and an uncomfortable stood till Jonas said out loud.

"Call the ambulance!"

The maid who hid for her life, hurried out of her hiding place and called for the ambulance as instructed. Good thing was the girls had gone for shopping that morning.

"Dad..."
"Don't you dare Dad me, you brought this upon my  family, I warned you didn't I? But you wouldn't listen! Because of your foolishness!"

Jonas didn't give Davies the chance to utter a word.

"Now call the girl"

Davies had resolved to keep Coco from Edward. There was no way he would give Coco to such a Dangerous person.

"Dad, I am going to call the police. There is no way I would give Coco to Edward"

The anger that burned through Jonas was one no words could express...he landed a slap across Davies cheek.

"You are mad, you hear me? You have gone mad!"

Callis was in Davies' flat already. There's no way he would die for some trash Davies picked from Nigeria.

He searched for the number in Davies' cell phone and called through his own phone.

"Hello who is this?
"Hello it's me Callis, Coco you have to come back now, there is this mad guy. He shot Jake and he is going to kill us all if you don't come back"

Coco ended the call, her heart throbbed against her chest, she stood before and airport already but Davies filled her heart.

"Oh on, Davies"

She turned back and stopped a taxi.

***

"Dad until when huh? When would you stop cowering before Edward? He is a man! Not a god and he bleeds!"

Jonas was going to land another slap on Davies when Jane interrupted.

"What the hell happened here?"

Davies hissed on seeing her and hurried to Jake. He picked Jake into his arms and whisk past her, straight to the ambulance that got into the compound.

Jane hurried after him and followed into the van, while Callis and Jonas followed in the Jeep parked in the compound.

"What are you doing here Jane, I don't love you, I will never love you, I love someone else now so stop wasting your precious time just give up"

His pyjamas was soaked with Jake's blood already. He was less concerned about her presence.

"Listen Davies"

Jane grabbed his arm suddenly.

"I must have you, no one else will, I would rather die than let anyone else have you. You hear me? I would even kill whoever or whatever stands in my way"

CHAPTER 25

*30 minutes earlier*
"Why is he taking so long?" Coco thought, the movie she tried to watch to fill in for Davies absence wasn't working as planned. She still desired him, she craved for him. She rolled her eyes continuously and sighed in boredom, she tried looking out the window, she could see the car metres away, Davies wasn't anywhere near.

"What's so important huh? Maybe they are talking about me"

She soliloquized and paced to and fro. She noticed her cell phone beep twice, she had missed a call.

"Oh shit, 5 missed call! How come I didn't here this damn thing ring, Davies this is your fault, you are in my head stupid!"

She was about to call back when the phone rang again.

"Hello?"

There was no response, she withdrew to check if the call ended already or if she mistakenly muted the call, but all seemed fine.

"Hello?" She called again.
"Hello love" Her hands froze, her lips went dry for a sudden cold that crept to her entire body. She couldn't find any word to say, she stuttered and muttered jargons.

"You miss me?" Her heart that throbbed so fast against her chest was the only response she had to give, she remained mute, even the nerves to end the call was somehow difficult.

"I know where you are, and I am coming to get you"

The call ended and Davies entered.

*NOW*
"Coco calm down, maybe you heard wrong, like how did he get your contact number? And I still find it difficult to believe that he knows you are here"

Davies knew the inevitable had happened already, but he still tried to ease Coco to worry less.

'Small boy, I hope to meet you again, you have what I need anyway'

Edwards' words replayed in Davies head. He realized now, Edward knew Coco was in the mansion, he knew all this while.

"What are you saying Davies? This is Edward we are talking about here"

She paused and took another look at him.

"You don't even know what he is capable of so I won't blame you for saying all this"

Coco said and stood up to the bedroom. He followed to see her packing her stuffs.

"Where are you going?"
"I have to get out of here, it's no longer safe for any of you"

Her reply felt like a sting to his heart.

"Please Coco, let me think of something, we can do this, together, we can fight Edward"

Coco dropped her bags to face Davies, if he wasn't dressed up well she would conclude he had gone mad.

"Davies how many times would I say this? Felix is not someone you can toil with, just let me go"

She resumed packing her stuffs as Davies stood trying to think of something else to convince her with.

"Coco please, you just said you love me, how can you leave me then, that would kill me"
"I love you Davies, that's the reason I have to leave to protect you, if I love you, I won't stay here, because staying with you now is worse than death"

She replied while she turned her back to him. Soon she was all set and ready to leave.

"Please Davies step out of the way"

He made a slight move and she was thinking he would let her go but then he caught and hugged her from behind. Her bags dropped from her hands as tears dropped from her eyes.

"Please Coco, stay with me, even if it's just for this night, stay with me"

She thought about it, although she wasn't sure if it was safe but she was equally finding it difficult to leave. Reluctantly she agreed and drop her bags. It was evening already, she was pretty sure there won't be any fun plans, not now when she had Edward registered in her thoughts, she resolved to just take a good look at him so she could always have a picture in her mind when she leaves.

"Come"

It's been hours in silence, and Coco was prepared to let it last till the next day but the sound of his sultry voice change her plans.

She didn't hesitate to follow him as he led the way to the bathroom.

"Pull of your clothes"

Instantly she remembered the night he forced her clothes off her body and bathed her. She obeyed and took of her clothes.

"Come, lie still"

He led her to the bathing tub and made her sink into the warm water.

He picked a soap and ran it through her hair, he was actually washing her hair. No man had did that before, and damn! He was so good at it! The way he ran his hands through the wet tendrils of her hair aroused her hormones.

He slowly ran the soap down her neck and washed her clean. She was expecting more to happen but all he did was bath her again. He dried her body, picked her into his arms and placed her on the bed.

Without saying a word he left to take his bath. She couldn't understand how this man could see her naked, how he could touch every private part of her body and still withstand the urge to have her. Is he human? She thought.

"Why didn't you have sex with me? Like I was weak in your web, I was ready for the take, I wouldn't mind, not that I have the strength to resist you"

She asked when she laid on his chest.

"It's you I love, not your body, it's you I want to keep, not your body. If this is the last night we would be together, then I don't want you to remember me for the sex, I want you to remember me as a man who loves you, as a man who adores you and who would do anything to keep you"

Coco felt her whole world spin, she felt mesmerized by this man, she hugged him so tight, she didn't want to let go. She didn't know what to feel, she felt both sad and happy. Happy because she found true love, sad because it wouldn't last.

"Davies, I love you"
"Then don't leave me"
"Davies please I have to, please understand"

The dialogue ended with a sigh, She slept in his arms and when he woke up the next morning, all he saw was a piece of paper and an empty bed.

He picked it up and read the three words she wrote down.

"I love you"

Something dropped from his eyes to wet the paper, it was tears.

"No, no Coco don't leave me, no Coco"

He hurried downstairs in his pyjamas to find his brothers entertaining a stranger in the dinning room.

"Hey Davies, come over here" Callis called from the dinning room.

Davies was sure of what he saw, it was that same man.

"Meet Edward, he said he is here to see Coco"

LOVE IS A GAME

CHAPTER 24

Davies couldn't resist the feeling of fulfilment that graced his heart, finally he had Coco where he wanted her to be; finally, she chose to love him.

He soothed her cheek with his palms and placed a kiss on her forehead. She desired something more, she desired his lips, it was like a drug to her now. She was getting impatient already, maybe he had forgotten what he was supposed to do.

"Davies, kiss me"

She requested again with her eyes closed in wait for his lips, she didn't want to see the expression on his face, all she wanted was his lips. And he granted her wish, he touched her lips and ignited her desires to burn even more. She let out a sigh of relief and drew him closer. She wasn't satisfied with the clothes he had on, she wanted full access to his body, with shaky hands she unbuttoned his shirt and brought him closer to feel the warmth of his body. He shifted his arms around her and held her against the wall. His lips trailed down to her neck, she moaned a little and dug her hands into his full hair.

"Hello sir"

The maid was there to interrupt.

"Hello sir"

The voice came again, this time a little louder. They broke free breathlessly, each still burning with desires. Coco couldn't understand what that maid really wanted, she felt she needed to keep a close watch on the girl, to her, the girl was bad news, she was a perfect moment ruiner!

"Sir it's sir Jonas, he wants to see you sir, it's urgent"

Davies picked his shirt when he heard it was his father, his father a lot of explaining to do, first on how Jane found him in the mansion.

"Must you go? Oh sorry it's your Father, you should go"

Davies looked to Coco, he understood she craved for him and he was glad for that.

'Finally she wants me'

He thought.

'Wait till she discovers your Father murdered her parents!'

Another thought stole the thrill he felt.

"Oh love, just give me a minute, I would be back in a jiffy"

He hurried out and stood for a while to calm his heartbeat. What if she finds out? What happens then?

"Dad how did Jane get here?"

He attacked the old man the moment he entered the car.

"She is the woman for you"

That was Jonas' excuse.

"What? Dad you would result to that now? You know what that woman put me through..."

Jonas interrupted with a frown, he didn't care what  Davies had gone through, what was at stake was of greater importance.

"Yes! Yes Davies I don't care and I will send her to you over and over again until you come back to your senses and send that girl back to Nigeria!"

Davies had tried to remain calm but he lost it.

"And what happens then? Huh! You cover up your sins?! Huh!"
"No! I'll protect my family! I chose to protect my family over some stupid love, if you are man enough you would understand and do the same"

Jonas was now thinking Coco might have done something to his son, maybe a spell or something to trap Davies. Davies had always been the obedient one, he couldn't understand how that changed within few days.

"No father, a real man fight for what he wants, he stands up to face his problem not run from it"

Silence enveloped for a while until Jonas spoke up.

"And you think she loves you? She is using you boy, I paid her one million dollars per day to make you fall for her, don't be foolish, the girl is only after your money"

Jonas could read the shock on Davies face and he was glad he finally penetrated.

"No, you are saying this to...."
"It's the truth son, you can ask her, she won't dare deny it"

Davies thoughts were conflicted, as he walked back to the flat he pondered on what his father said. She was paid to make him fall in love with her? How could she do this to him? Why would she deceive him for money? Maybe is father was right, she is just a gold digger. He felt hurt but tried to tame the feeling, he was yet to confirm his father's accusation.

"Davies?"

He met her seated with her cell phone with fear in her eyes. His initial anger melted instantly.

"What is it Coco?"
"He called" she responded in a low tone.

"Who called?"
"Edward called, he knows i am here with you... Davies, it has begun, he is going to kill you all"

LOVE IS A GAME

CHAPTER 23

'What is this I feel? Am not jealous, no am not jealous, am just angry because he had an ex and he didn't tell me'

Coco fought with her thoughts as she watched the supposed Jane all over Davies. She was so wrong, she thought she could make good memories before the deal expires. She thought she could love him for the little time they had left, but now she watched her wishes wash off before her eyes. The woman she saw was one she read to be desperate, so desperate that she would do anything to have Davies.

And the painful thing was Davies was mute, he didn't say anything, he permitted the woman to hug and place kisses all over his face. She couldn't take it anymore, she counted her steps back upstairs unnoticed.

"Jane?"
"Yes it's me"

Davies was still in shock, this was the woman he loved so dearly, a woman who he was willing to give anything in world, this was the woman he worshipped and cared for, this was the woman he treated like a queen. But then, this was the same woman that made him feel worthless, she never cared about his feelings, she made him look like a inexperience lover boy, she broke his ego, she made him cold, she broke his heart. Now she stood before him in flesh and blood, what was he supposed to do? It took him several years to move past the hurt, it took him painful days to look past the scars and now! She loves him?

"Get your hands off me"

His face tightened to a frown, he was dead serious and she could see it. He didn't notice his brothers watching the scene from behind. The whole family were witness to what he had gone through. His experience had prompted his brothers decide never to be involved with a woman.

"That's Jane right, the woman that made my brother mad?"

Jake questioned with both hands tucked in his pocket.

"What is it Davies? I missed you"
"Me too"

Davies muttered like he was transfixed; Jane eyes lit in hope, both brothers who stood behind couldn't believe what they heard.

"Oh my God, don't tell me Davies is willing to travel down the rocky path again"

Callis lamented.
"You did?" Jane questioned and placed both hands on his shoulders.

"No, I miss the me that came before you, the me that wasn't so broken, the me that laughed more and hated less, the me you didn't destroy"

His reply made her smiles disappear as fast as it came.

"Davies I am sorry, I was confused, I really loved you but I didn't realize on time, I realized this when it was already late, Davies please, I am here now and I would never leave you again"

Tears began to pour from her eyes again.

"Jane, leave this house now, before I change my mind"

Davies closed the dialogue and started upstairs.

"Davies?" She cried and attempted to run after him but his brothers were there for the defence.

"No way lady"

Jake took front and stopped her with an unfriendly smirk

"Let me through"

She grew bossy with her request.

"Are you mad? Through to where? Why are you here huh? To bring trouble again? You ain't satisfied huh? You bitch!"

Callis was not careful with his words, he pushed her through the threshold and slammed the door against her.

"And stay off!"

He shouted at the closed door.

***

"Coco?" Coco remained quiet still, Davies had called several times but she remained quiet.

He made a move to touch her but she gently removed his hands off her waist. She was still trying to be calm and polite, although flames burned from within her.

"Where is Jane?"

Her question made him realize where the problem was coming from.

He couldn't help but chuckle.

"Wait, are you jealous?"

His question made her realize that her emotions were betraying her already, she quickly averted her eyes and stood up to pace.

"Me? Am not jealous, I...I'm just...you know, I am happy for you"

She stood with folded arms; it took another minute of an uncomfortable silence to reveal that her excuse was unreasonable.

"Ok Davies I am jealous, like you betrayed me ok, you betrayed me, and you said you loved me but out there all you could do was enjoy all that woman did, she was all over you, kissing and hugging you and you were there enjoying it! So much for your professed love!"

She couldn't catch her breathe for a while, she was burning in hate, she wasn't used to being jealous, she had never being jealous over any man, this was her first time. He was still quiet with a smile on his face, and for some reason it infuriated her the more.

"Why are you smiling? Oh this is a joke? I'm a joke now? Say something! Tell me you don't love her, or that you didn't enjoy her kisses, or you pushed her away! Just say anything, even if it's a lie, say it, I don't know how I feel now, say anything to make me feel better"

Her folded arms where tightened against her chest, her breathing was unstable.

"Coco"

He muttered and started towards her, she was supposed to hit or push him away from her but she couldn't, her legs only grew weak.

"I love you, I love only you, does that answer your questions?"

He was standing before her, she could feel his breathe on her lips.

"Only you Coco, no one can replace you, no one, no situation, not even the greatest pain, or the deepest fear, nothing can replace you"

Coco could not understand herself.

'What is this man doing to me?'

His words sank deep into her soul, it was just words yet her whole system reacted to it. She found herself muttering jargons, and when he touched her jaw, she let out an uneased sigh; an unusual Cold crept from her legs to her lips.

He was going to kiss her but he hesitated and breathe on her lips until she could not bare the torment.

"Davies, kiss me"

The words escaped her mouth before she realised, she regretted but waved it off.

"Do you love me Coco? Would you fight for me too? In any situation, against anybody, would you?"

There was no point denying it anymore, there was point lying to herself.

"I love you, I love Davies, I love you so much"

LOVE IS A GAME

CHAPTER 22

This is Edward, no doubt. Davies found it hard to breathe. He was in for big trouble, Edward was no longer a nightmare, he was now reality.

"And who is this small boy?"

Edward asked looking at Davies direction. Davies felt insulted, Edward didn't look older, infact, he was sure they would be on the same age range; he dares to address him as a small boy?

"Oh forgive my manners, that's my first son Davies, come on Davies"

Davies couldn't understand what his father saw in Edward that he treated the man as a king, how much does Edward have to give? How much money can Edward throw around? The guy is not even equal to his shoes, what's so special about him?

"Hi, nice meeting you"

Davies exchanged his hand for an handshake but Edward took a while to observe, like he remembered something.

"Your face looks familiar, have we met?"

Davies could hear as his heart missed a bit and throbbed hard against his chest. Many questions welled up in his mind, did Edward see him the other day with Coco? Or has Coco told Edward about him?

Jonas was quick to Interject when Davies opened his mouth to respond.

"Am not sure, my son is an Introvert, he doesn't associate with people"

Davies looked to his father's expression, the old man threw a wink at him to cooperate with his idea, he could only read one thing, fear. His father was afraid.

"Why not excuse us, we want to talk business"

Edward said next and took his seat. Davies was reluctant to move, what was going on? He wasn't scared of what Edward might do; to him, Edward didn't look all that evil and dangerous as Coco had claimed.

Although Jonas' wink made him obey. He waited impatiently till the door opened and Edward came out with a smile.

"Small boy, I hope to meet you again, you have what I need anyway"

Davies frowned at his words, he had no words to reply Edward so he simply watched him till he disappeared into the elevator.

"Dad, what's going on?"

Jonas didn't hesitate to answer.

"He knows son, he knows everything about the plan crash, he knows I am responsible and he is blackmailing me for it"

Davies eyes went wide, he realised he was going to lose everything, his money, his life and Coco. Once Edward spills this dark secret to Coco, he would lose her for sure.

"Dad, that is Edward, the notorious criminal from Nigeria, the one you said is involved with Coco"

Davies made matters worst. His father shook in dismay as his weak hands tried to find his chair to sit.

"Oh no, we are finished, you've sent her back? The girl, you've sent her back?"

Davies sealed mouth meant only one thing, Coco was still in the mansion.

"Davies are you mad? Do you want to ruin this family? We are in deep shit already, you want to mess it up even more?"
"Dad I love her, and I am willing to fight for her"

Jonas held his head with his eyes wide open.

"Jesus, what have I done? Why did I allow this? I only wanted my sons to find true love since I didn't have to opportunity to"

He was thinking aloud and Davies was there to reply.

"And we found it already dad, all thanks to you"
"No Davies! No! Yours is forbidden, go home now and send that girl back to Nigeria"

Davies was quiet for a while and Jonas was beginning to think he had an headway but Davies slashed his hopes when he replied

"No"
"Then you leave me no choice"

Jonas words were suspicious that Davies had to ask.

"What do you mean Father? If you dare hurt her... You won't dare"

Jonas ignored and sat pensively. He instructed Davies be thrown out of his office when he persisted.

He had a plan of his own, it wasn't violence, but it would yield results, there is nothing money cannot do.

Davies was back home, he was a little scared to face Coco, he thought of revealing that Edward was already close to fishing them out, but the thought of losing her in the process waved the it off.

He had no plan, no defense whatsoever, but he was certain of one thing, he would fight for Coco, even if it meant giving up his life.

"Davies?"

Coco called when he switched on the light to reveal her folded on the bed.

"Davies I missed you"

She hurried and hugged him so tight like he was going to leave her. She had thought about it, she really can't tell if it was love she felt but she was sure of one thing, she can't live without this man, he was part of her already, she relies on him for emotional relief, he is always there when she needs him the most.

"Davies?"

Her lips covered his when he attempted to say something, she kissed his deeply, his lips were food to her soul, it was an addiction, she felt contented whenever she touched it. She broke free, she was going to say it, she was going to say those three words that would change everything, finally she was going to tell him the words he desired to hear.

"Davies...Davies...I..."

But the maid interrupted the blissful moment.

"Sir, there is someone here to see you, it's urgent sir"
"Hold that thought"

Davies said and hurried downstairs. Coco felt like pulling a tooth or two from the maid that ruined her moment, she followed downstairs to see who must have interrupted them. It was a lady, a lady who she witnessed hugging Davies with tears pouring down her eyes.

"Davies, I missed so much, I can't believe this, this is you in flesh and blood, oh Davies, I love you so much Davies"

Coco was both confused and jealous, she burned with heat, Davies betrayed her already? he had an affair?

"Who is that?"

She questioned when Callis stood beside her with the same amazement written on his face. Callis ignored the small hatred he had for Coco at that moment, and with a frown he replied.

"That's Jane, Davies Ex fiancée"

LOVE IS A GAME

CHAPTER 21

His eyes went wide and for a minute there he felt like the world had come to an end. What did she mean by 'i am gone'? Won't he see her again? The note dropped from his hands, it took him another five minutes to realize his standing position won't yield him any positive result. He took his car keys and dashed out of the flat, straight to the security.
"Where is she?"
He was still meters away when he began to question the middle-aged man. The fat man hurried to meet Davies, the look on Davies face proved he had lost something precious.
"Who sir?"
"Coco?"
The guard had to think wide before he could match the cute ebony to the lady he granted permission to leave the mansion as Coco.
"Oh, that beautiful lady? She left already, she said you called her up to come join you at her favorite eatery"
Davies was becoming strange when he approached the man
"And you let her go?"
"Yes, sir she said..."
Davies interrupted when he grabbed the man by his neck. His eyes were red with pain.
"And you let her go you good for nothing fool!"
He raged in anger and let the guard go when he felt he was wasting more time, he was sure he would still catch up with her somehow.
"If I don't see her"
He spoke to the rest of the guards.
"I would kill all of you, you hear me!"
He dashed out and zoomed off in his car, his eyes pried through the windscreen of his car in search of Coco. Silently he prayed within him, he can't lose her, he wasn't sure if he would be able to live his normal life without her. Coco had succeeded in reaching to his heart, she can't just leave him like that.
Minutes later, he got stuck in traffic, he had tried to reach her cell phone but her line was switched off.
He hurried out of the car and ran with his legs, screaming her name on top of his voice. He met with everyone who gave him an audience.
"Have you seen any girl with dark brown eyes, a little tall, dark hair, she is really beautiful"
All the reply he got were negative until one had to ask.
"Where are your shoes mister? The weather is cold you might hurt yourself"
He looked down at his legs and realized he left his shoes in his car.
London is a big city, he didn't know where to start searching for her. Disappointed and broken he returned to the position he left his car and realized it had been towed away by the road officials, he wouldn't blame them, he parked his car wrongly.
The good thing has he had his wallet full of cash that could transport him back to the mansion. He could not tell how he felt, it was like a part of him went cold.
"What have you done to me Coco, why are you doing this to me? What kind of woman are you? Why do I feel this way?"
He muttered when he stood in front of the mansion barefooted.
The securities were sore afraid of what he might do to them, their jobs were at stake.
"He is back"
They whispered among themselves when they saw Davies stood like he was transfixed outside the gate.
Hours past he remained like that, they were becoming worried.
"Maybe he has gone mad, he is barefooted, and where is the car? We should inform sir Jake and the others before this gets out of hand"
One of them suggested as he hurried off.
"Davies? Are you okay?"
Jake called few meters away from Davies, he was close when Davies walked past him without uttering a word.
"Bruh where are your shoes?"
No answer still. He counted his steps to the flat and the moment he pushed the door open he saw Coco. Her hands twitched as she found words to express herself.
"Davies?" he stood with narrowed eyes, she couldn't tell what he had in mind, she couldn't tell if he was happy to see her, or if he was mad at her for leaving like that. She noticed his barefoot, they were sore, it proved he had been out in the cold without his shoes.
"Davies? I'm sorry I left like that, I shouldn't have done that, I should have waited till you were back and bid you farewell, that's the reason I came back, to officially thank you for all you've done for me"
Her mind chastised her, she knew she was lying to his face, she couldn't go a minute without thinking about him, she felt she would go mad. She had prepared her ticket for the next day while she lodged in a hotel. It was the right thing to do, it's not the first time she had left someone behind before, but somehow she couldn't shake him off her mind. She tried to sleep it off but it wasn't working.
"What is wrong with me?"
There was no one to reply her question. Finally, she decided to go back, but she needed an excuse, she didn't want him to think she came back because she was attached to him.
Davies remained quiet as he stood at the door.
"Hmm, I'll be going now?"
She started towards him and stopped face to face with him. There was nothing else to say, he wouldn't talk to her, she couldn't tell if her presence meant anything, he was blunt and emotionless.
She sighed and attempted to walk past him when he caught her arm. His voice was cold and full of hurt when he requested.
"Wash my feet, you made them cold when you left me"
She looked down to his feet again and realized they were bleeding. Her heart missed a bit, he had been out in the cold searching for her? What is wrong with this man, why is he so stubborn, she would only hurt him. She didn't stop the tears that welled up in her eyes.
"I'm sorry Davies"
She melted into his arms and sobbed.
"I'm sorry"
***
Jonas called his son again, it was already 24hours he sent for him. It was unlike Davies, except something went wrong.
"Hello Dad, I'm on my way"
Davies was finding it difficult to leave the house, he was scared Coco would leave again. She sensed his fear and assured him after stealing a long kiss.
"I won't leave again, I promise"
He took Jake's car after much persuasion and hurried to his father. The old man had a lot to say when he saw his son standing in front of him. But there was just one important fact he needed to know.
"What about the girl? You've sent her back?"
That was of utmost importance, he needed to know if his family was secure now. Davies has never disobeyed his orders, so he was expecting a positive response.
"No Dad"
The wrinkles on Jonas face tightened to a frown and he was going to rage when his secretary called.
"He is here"
"Oh okay please send him in"
He dropped the call and turned to Davies.
"We would talk about this later, sit and behave yourself, a very important business associate is here to talk business"
Davies obeyed and took his seat, he had made up his mind, there was nothing his father would say that would change his mind about Coco.
"Old man"
The supposed business partner entered with a big grin on his face, coupled with his bodyguards on each side.
"Well look who it is"
Jonas returned the pleasantries and went in for a hug. Davies' eyes went wide for shock, there was only one thing he was sure of now; his family is in for big trouble because the man he saw was the same man that has been Coco's worst nightmare, it was Edward.

LOVE IS A GAME
CHAPTER 20

"What? He is wh...what? Hold on, hold on, i remember you mentioning Edward was the only one you loved"
Davies had to interrupt, the bombshell she dropped was one he didn't expect, how can Felix(the one who caused her so much pain) be the one who she loves. That's impossible, maybe there is a miss up somewhere.
"Yes i mentioned that, i loved him, but that was before he went mad with lust and forced himself on me" she thought she cleared the air but it only made him more inquisitive.
"How come Felix is now Edward? Is Felix a surname or what?"
"I knew him as Felix, the streets knew him as Edward"
Another thought popped his mind, he remembered what his father had said.
"She is extremely dangerous, she has handled a gun before, she has killed people, she was the right hand to one notorious criminal named Edward" He froze for a minute and Coco was beginning to think he was considering the option to pull out. He wanted to ask if all his father had said was true. He thought of a way to tactically ask the question but none of the ideas he had sounded tactical enough. He grew fed up and asked directly.
"Have you murdered anyone before?" his heart somehow missed a bit when he asked, he prayed so hard that she would deny it, that it wouldn't be true. But then she didn't hesitate to reply.
"Yes"
She looked deep into his eyes to search for any trace of fear, there wasn't, he was worried that was all she saw.
Davies was worried now, worried for his family, what if she finds out the truth about her parents death? What happens then? His father was right, he has to send her back to Nigeria before it's too late. But the thing is, he can't!
"Ahhhh" he screamed out loud to let out the frustration that boiled within him. His thoughts were conflicted and he was having a hard time bottling it in.
Coco fathomed it was out of fear, maybe he saw reasons with her now.
"You see Davies, i told you so...Edward is dange...."
"How do we kill me"
"Wait what?"
Silence enveloped the bedroom for over a minute. Coco felt she heard wrong, minutes ago she was getting a little relieved that he finally saw reasons with her, but now he responded with the unthinkable.
"Davies are you out of your mind? What is going on with you?"
Davies felt the word 'kill' would be the best option for her since she has killed a lot of people before, but with the look of things it didn't go as he expected.
"Okay how do we put him in Jail"
It didn't get her still.
"Davies i can't believe you are saying this, don't you understand all i have been saying? Edward picked me from the streets, he taught me all i know, how to fight, how to kill, how to survive in the streets and among the rich. Davies i have spent all my life with that man, he can't be killed. I alone attempted that and i failed"
Oh she has tried to kill him before; he got that point now.
"I do not agree, he is a man, he isn't a god"
Coco was going to say something else but Davies phone rang to interrupted them, it was his Jonas.
"Hey dad"
"Come over to the company now"
He turned to Coco who sat upright on the bed and whispered.
"Stay put, i would be right back"
But she wasn't going to yield to his orders this time. He was metres away when he discovered he left his entrance key card at home.
He hurried back to notice a small note on the centre table.
"I am gone, by tomorrow morning i would be back in Nigeria, please don't look for me, go on with your life and forget about me, i would only bring you trouble"

LOVE IS A GAME
CHAPTER 19

"Who is Edward? You always talk about him, and didn't you say he was dead?"

Davies popped the question when they were safely back at home. Coco didn't seem ready to talk, she dropped her bag, pulled off her shoes, her clothes and went straight to the bathroom to cool off. She felt her throat go dry, her eyes were not helping either. She felt sick all of a sudden, the water became too cold that she had to turn off the shower. Memories of her past came afresh.

"Edward got hit, he didn't survive the shot, he is dead Coco" she remembered what she was told.

"No he traveled out of the country, he is in London, he didn't die"

Another had objected. But she was sure he died, she saw him fall to the ground, she was hundred percent sure because she shot him herself. She was behind the rumour that he traveled out of the country. She was sure Edward didn't know where the bullet came from, but now that he is alive, there is every possibility that he might have found out that she shot him.

"Shit, God not now, why won't my past stay buried, why?" She lamented and sobbed in the bathroom until Davies interrupted with a knock on the door.

"Coco? Are you okay?"

He inquired and got her quick response

"I'm fine, I would be out in a minute" she sniffed in and washed her face clean before she came out. But still, Davies was able to detect she cried.

"Why are you crying?"
"What? I'm not"

She averted her eyes and changed into her night gown. She tied the ropes and went straight to bed. She knew Davies had lots of questions welled up in his mind, but she wasn't planning on answering any.

"Coco, you've not said anything, who is Edward?"

He pushed on and sat beside her on the bed. She shut her eyes tight and prayed he would give up and let her be, but he would not. He kept pestering her until she replied.

"Davies, all you need to know is this, Edward is bad news...he is the definition of death, it's best if you let the issue die, forget about Edward"

She said while she laid on the bed.

"Coco, you can trust me please I need to know"

He pestered her even more till she flared up.

"Why Davies! Why?"

He waited till she was calm again before he replied.

"Because I want to protect you, and to do that I need to know everything about you"

She didn't know when she laughed out loud. What can this spoilt rich kid do? She thought.

"You, protect me? Sorry brother but I should be the one to protect you, ain't you scared? I just said Edward is a definition of death"

He was quiet again and waited till she was calm before he cautioned.

"You are raising your voice on me"
"I'm sorry okay, can you let the issue go now?"

She apologized and laid back to the bed with a sigh of relief but his next words brought her back to her sitting position.

"No, not until you tell me what I need to know"
"Oh Jesus Christ" she placed her hands on her forehead. This man is the definition of stubborn.

"Coco please, I love you, and I want to..."
"Stop it Davies, you don't love me, I don't love you, we are just having this cranky feeling because we are stalk here together, like it's highly possible for both of us to have this feeling of attraction, we sleep on the same bed, do things together, cuddle, kiss and all that. We are both super attractive and yes you would definitely think this temporal obsession to be love. Once I am out of here, you would forget about me. So don't make the moment get you confused. There is no love here"

She countered his words and attempted to lay back to bed when he caught her arms and pulled her to him.

"What do you know about love Coco, how can you tell that what I am feeling isn't love?"

He wanted her to explain, perhaps she can help him understand what he felt, he wasn't sure if what he felt was love.

"I don't know Davies, I don't know, I don't know how to do this love thing, I really don't care, I've got guys in the past who loved me but they ended up heartbroken because I really don't care, I am not that kind of girl, just stop all this, I don't want to hurt you, loving me will only cause you pain, you've been a great help to me, please I don't want to hurt you"

She felt a little scared of what he was thinking when he suddenly released his grip and turned his face away from her. She quickly cautioned herself afterwards.

'Remember you don't care' she said within her and quickly reached for Davies before he got up from the bed

"See Davies, I like you, I won't deny that fact, but apart from the fact that this is all a game, loving me is death, now that Edward is still alive I can't love anyone, he is going to kill you Davies, I am thinking of leaving immediately after the deal ends, I will only bring pain and death to you and your family"

She was right, his father had mentioned the same thing, but he didn't care, he would not let her go, never!

"Coco who is Edward?"

She couldn't believe this man, after all she said he wasn't ready to think straight. Okay, if this is what he wants, then she would give it to him.

She cleared her throat and averted her eyes when she started

"Edward is the Felix from my past..."

LOVE IS A GAME
CHAPTER 18

It was like the world went cold for a minute, Davies eyes went wide, his mouth stood agape and though he tried to say something, all he could do was stammer and settled for

"No...it's not possible, you are wrong, it can't be Coco"

Jonas was getting tired of his son being adamant about the issue. This was a big risk, if Coco finds out, it would be hell for him and his family, he loved his sons dearly, he didn't want to put them at risk.

"It's Coco son..."

Davies objected again.

"How do you know this? Huh? How can you come up with something like this? How are you sure it's Coco, you might just he taking her for someone else dad"

He said and felt he made sense, his father shouldn't be jumping into conclusions.

"I know because I did a background check up on the three girls, I wanted to know who my sons got married to, so I paid professionals to look into them. And apart from the fact that she is a victim of the incident..."

Jonas paused and reduced his tone to a whisper before he continued...

"She is dangerous Davies, that girl can kill you, she has handle a gun before, she has killed people, according to my source she was the right hand girl to a notorious criminal back in Lagos, his name was Edward"

Davies was certain he heard that name from Coco countless times.

'Edward taught me all I know, he taught me how to survive in the streets' he remembered she said that during their first encounter.

'Where did you learn to dance like this? In Nigeria all they do is shake the booty'

He remembered when he asked at the dance floor.

'Edward taught me..'

Memories flushed through his mind and he was beginning to see sense to what his father said. But then he remembered Coco's words.

'I might act cool and strong on the outside, but deep down I am a coward, I am scared, I am broken'

No, he wasn't sure of who or what she was capable of, but he was sure of one thing, she is not capable of murder, he can vouch his life on that one.

"No dad, she is not dangerous, I know her"

Jonas held his forehead with his palm, he couldn't believe his son.

"Are you mad Davies? You just met this girl not up to three weeks and you know her already? Ok let's say she won't hurt you, what about your brothers?"

The thought of his brothers filled his heart, he had a change of heart immediately, he wasn't even sure if he loves her, he wouldn't want to put his brothers at risk.

"Ok dad, I would do as you've said, I would send her back on one condition, you would confess your sins to the authorities and get punished"

His father agreed and he started towards his flat. His mind was made up, she has to go, she was dangerous, she could hurt his family, this was the right thing to do.

He was sure he had enough willpower but the moment he stood face to face with her, he melted. She turned to see him staring at her, she noticed he had something to say but he couldn't force the words out.

"Davies? You wanna tell me something?"

She questioned with a shrug.

"I just wanna tell you to...that...that I love you"

It felt weird and before she could utter something else he covered the distance between them and placed his lips on hers. Her kissed her deeply and drew her into his arms.

"I don't want to lose you..."

She had a frown on her face, what was going on?

"Davies are you OK?"

She tapped his back a little when he hugged her.

"I am fine, Its ok"

He broke free and cupped her cheek in his palms.

"Promise me Coco, that no matter what happens, you would never leave me"

She was going to resist but he was persistent until she voiced the words out.

"Ok I promise! You happy now?"

His response was another tight hug and a kiss on her forehead.

***

From that day onward, Davies treated her like a princess, he kissed her at every given opportunity that she got addicted to his lips, sometimes she caught herself staring and longing for his lips, other times she would stylishly request in a low tone.

"Kiss me"

He would grant her wish and satisfy her hunger. She got used to his scent, his arms and his cuddle. She has never experienced such care from anyone before, it was all new to her that it didn't take long to get addicted.

"Do you love me?"

He occasionally asked but she always found a way to dodge the question, she wasn't sure, she didn't want to commit herself to this man, she was certain he wouldn't hurt her, but she didn't trust herself, she was paid to make him fall, what if he finds out? What happens then?

It was the last week already and each of the girls had positive reports to give.

The boys had a meeting to extend their one month deal with an extra one week. It was settled then, just this time, the girls felt guilty that they accepted the deal without a pay.

Coco was so glad the deal was extended, although she didn't want Davies to notice. He took her to their favourite fancy eatery and ordered her favourite dish. He had taken his time to study her likes and dislikes, she was equally amazed. He knew virtually everything about her personal kinky life. Although she made him feel he didn't know her well enough.

They had a nice meal and were just close to the car when she saw someone, someone from her past, someone who made her heart stop for a moment.

"Davies...In the car now!"

She pushed Davies in when he lingered and hid while he drove off in speed.

"Who was that Coco?"

Davies asked when they were metres away from the eatery. Her eyes were wide in fear when she replied.

"Its Edward..."
