PoliticsRe: Are The Yoruba The Number One In Religious Tolerance? by abes(m): 1:48pm On Aug 24, 2012
afam4eva: I don't think so. I just feel that they have no choice to tolerate one another because the population of Christians and Muslims are sort of like 50-50. It could have been a different case if one religion was a majority and the other minority just like it is in Northern Nigeria.
Remember that both religions are foreign and they did not come at the same time, that means there were times when the population of one religion was more than the other.

PoliticsRe: Arewa To Gej:renounce 2015 And Enjoy Peace by abes(m): 9:41pm On Aug 09, 2012
Olanlere11: Yesterday in Abuja, Arewa Elder called on GEJ to defuse political tension in the country by renouncing any intention he might have to stand for re-election in 2015. Speaking onbehalf of ACF, Alhaji Ahmed Joda who served as permanent secretary in the 1970s, advised the President to publicly announce that he won’t go for it so as to dampen political tension created by the suspense over his candidacy.C
“(The) President should defuse the present political tension that now pervades the country. This should begin with his renouncing any intention he may have of contesting the 2015 elections and devoting his entire time, energy and the resources of the country in order to give Nigeria a credible and acceptable Constitution; a free, transparent and fair election,” he said in a statement in Abuja.
Jona, a former chairman of the Nigerian Communications Commission during the tenure of then-President Olusegun Obasanjo, said also that Jonathan “should restructure his cabinet; appoint more credible people; complete his present mandate to continue the work of governing the country to preside over a free, fair and transparent general election in 2015 and step aside"
It is apparent that the only tension that has overwhelmed Nigerians is the fear of being attacked by Boko Haram. If Arewa consultative forum is calling for the withdrawal of GEJ's candidacy come 2015, will they now call their boys to order? So ACF IS BEHIND BOKO HARAM? I need more explanation
http://www.naijapundit.com/news/arewa-elder-to-jonathan-say-you-won-t-contest-in-2015
@OP why did you insert your own word (in bold) into the quote? There is nowhere he said "and step aside".
I will advice any sensible reader to read and re-read the original source before making any comment.

President Jonathan should defuse political tension in the country by renouncing any intention he might have to stand for re-election in 2015, elder statesman Alhaji Ahmed Joda has said.

Jonathan has not said he will run for president again but neither did he say he won’t, and political pundits say his ‘body language’ indicates that he will join the race.

In a recent submission by his lawyer in a court case seeking to disqualify him from standing for re-election, Jonathan insisted that he is eligible for re-election.

Joda, who served as permanent secretary in the 1970s, advised the President to publicly announce that he won’t go for it so as to dampen political tension created by the suspense over his candidacy.

(The) President should defuse the present political tension that now pervades the country. This should begin with his renouncing any intention he may have of contesting the 2015 elections and devoting his entire time, energy and the resources of the country in order to give Nigeria a credible and acceptable Constitution; a free, transparent and fair election,” he said in a statement in Abuja.

Joda, a former chairman of the Nigerian Communications Commission during the tenure of then-President Olusegun Obasanjo, said also that Jonathan “should restructure his cabinet; appoint more credible people; complete his present mandate to continue the work of governing the country to preside over a free, fair and transparent general election in 2015;

Immediately impose an Austerity Budget and reduce government waste; work with the judicial system to undertake an accelerated fight against corruption; visibly demonstrate that all awarded government contracts are faithfully and actively being executed; (and) become more visibly and more actively engaged in solving present security challenges.

On constitution review, Joda suggested for the establishment of constituent assembly to review the constitution, saying that advocates of a sovereign conference are being encouraged by the credibility problems of elected officials.

In this situation, it is clearly not safe to leave matters of the review of the Constitution in the hands of those now in power. In order for us to undertake a comprehensive review of the Constitution, a body different from the present National Assembly, State Houses of Assemblies and the Presidency should be empowered to undertake the task.

This contribution is only concerned in drawing attention to the need to devise an acceptable way of approach towards a solution of our constitution and the political crisis associated with the exercise.

“It appears that a likely more acceptable arrangement will be the establishment of a Constituent Assembly, with a full mandate to comprehensively review the Constitution. The Constituent Assembly should be composed of an entirely elected membership.

“No representation should be permitted for special interests. The election should be on zero political party bases. Serving members of any legislative body should not be eligible. Public servants, who wish to serve, must resign from their offices. The Constituent Assembly should be brought into being by an Act of the National Assembly.

Fashola would rather get some cameras and not laptops. Pictures do the talking in Fashola's case, not like 'has signed', 'will do', 'has ordered', 'is on top' comment that we normally hear from GEJ's camp.

bestview: Are you scared of chino, don't collapse yet this is no chino? When chino comes am sure he will tear you apart like mad doggrin

How do you determine that enugu governor works when he only concentrate on urban area only, what about the places I mentioned earlier? here it is again (Awgu, Nkanu, Nsukka, Ukwuaji, Akegbe). Have you ever had cause to travel to such dungeon? If you ever have then you need to whip your governor. Even the governors place Udi is a ghost town and a shadow of itself, no road, no pipe borne water, no infrastructure, no hospital and you claim they have government.

You mentioned Awgu, Nsukka and Nkanu having coucillor and chairmen, but with all that are they as developed as ordinary Ekwuluobia and Ihiaha? Go figure.

FYI: Madonna the first private university in Nigeria is in Anambra state, Ihiala precisely. Anambra has more secondary and higher institution than enugu state. UNIZIK, NAUTH, ANSU, MADONNA UNI, TANSIAN UNI, NWAFOR ORIZU UNIVERSITY OF EDUCATION, FED POLY, the major unity colleges/schools that are as old as 100yreas in the east are located in Anambra, the likes of CKC, DMGS, QRC etc, they are too many.

The likes of Pat Utomi, Peter Obi, prof Mbanefo etc. passed thru the revered DMGS. So don't go in the area of school cause we have got it all.

Anambra ranks very high over and above Enugu state in education. In the whole of Nigeria its only Imo that ranks above Anambra. educationally Enugu state competes with the likes of Ebonyi, Gombe, Niger, Adamawa and rest of them.

U.S. delivers damning verdict on Jonathan’s anti-corruption war

The American government says there's “massive, widespread, and pervasive corruption" at all levels of the Nigerian government and the security forces

Just as the Goodluck Jonathan administration is facing mounting scrutiny at home over an illegal payment of N155 billion to cronies and associates of government officials on a presidential order, the United States of America has delivered a stringent critique of the government’s anti-graft effort.

In its year 2011 report on global human rights released Thursday by the State Department, the U.S. said the three tiers of the Nigerian government was ridden with “massive, widespread and pervasive corruption,” that failed to receive appropriate punitive response from the authorities.

“The law provides criminal penalties for official corruption; however, the government did not implement the law effectively, and officials frequently engaged in corrupt practices with impunity,” the report, submitted by Secretary of States, Hillary Clinton, to the U.S. Congress said.

“Massive, widespread, and pervasive corruption affected all levels of government and the security forces,” it continued.

The report, an X-ray of human rights abuses ranging from extrajudicial killings, arbitrary arrest and detention, free press abuses, to cases of graft worldwide, comes as the Jonathan administration is being linked to a scandalous funneling of public funds to shady associates of officials, amid multiple cases of official corruption in the fuel subsidy and pension funds unearthed by the National Assembly.

Meanwhile in other news..

PREMIUM TIMES can reveal today that the N155billion secretly paid to convicted money launderer, Dan Etete, by the Federal Government, on the orders of President Goodluck Jonathan, was actually a slush fund, with a huge chunk of it ending in bank accounts of cronies and business associates of government officials and at least one individual with links to Mr. Jonathan.

Our investigation also indicates that in order to cover up what is clearly one of the most elaborate corruption schemes in Nigeria’s history, the president tapped the junior minister in the finance ministry, Yerima Ngama, and Attorney General Mohammed Adoke to hurriedly transfer the funds to Mr. Etete on August 16, 2011, a day before the Minister of Finance, Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala, assumed office.

Mrs. Okonjo-Iweala was not available Thursday to comment on her knowledge of the transaction. Her spokesperson, Paul Nwabuikwu, said she was away in Zimbabwe on an official engagement.

This website had on Monday reported how the Nigerian subsidiaries of two multinational oil companies Nigeria Agip Exploration Limited (Agip) and Shell Nigeria Exploration and Production Company Limited (Shell) paid $1.1billion (N155billion) to the Federal Government in April last year for onward transmission to Malabu Oil whose principal is Mr. Etete.

Our subsequent investigations later showed that the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) had indeed investigated the deal, concluding that the transaction pointed at a “cloudy scene associated with fraudulent dealings.”

The EFCC investigation also clearly established that Mr. Etete’s Malabu only served as a money laundering machine, as substantial parts of the funds was later transferred to various accounts owned by “real and artificial persons” suspected to have links with the presidency and other government officials.

Presidency sources familiar with the matter say the EFCC intimated President Jonathan and Mr. Adoke of its findings
