Officials of the Narcotics Control Board (NACOB) have made the largest seizure of cocaine in recent years at the Tema Harbour.

The drug, estimated to be 200 kilogrammes, with a street value of $12 million, was concealed in a 40-footer container filled with 1,946 boxes of shampoo imported from Bolivia in South America.

The owner of the drug, Chief Sunny Ekechukwu Benji Eke, a 53-year-old Nigerian businessman, has been arrested, together with another accomplice, James Elekechukwu, 47, a second-hand clothing dealer in Accra.

Chief Eke was described by international law enforcement agencies as a notorious drug baron who had been involved in several drug seizures in Brazil and Bolivia.

According to the Deputy Executive Secretary of NACOB, Nii Lante Blankson, the success of the operation was the result of co-operation among the security agencies in the country.

He said in December last year, NACOB, through its foreign counterparts, received intelligence that a cargo said to contain a quantity of cosmetics was heading to the Tema Harbour from Bolivia and was suspected to contain some narcotic substances.

He said on January 29, 2013, the said cargo, which was shipped in a 40-footer container number MRK 257478-45 GI belonging to the MAESRK Shipping Lines and consigned to the De Consumables Lines Limited, docked at the Tema Harbour and officers of NACOB who were on standby immediately mounted surveillance on it.

After almost two weeks, a clearing agent arrived with the necessary documents to clear the goods and he was arrested to assist in investigations.

Nii Blankson said inspection of the documents revealed that the cargo was built to contain 22 pallets of assorted cosmetics but during physical examination, 1,946 cartons were found, with 33 of them containing 198 yellow bottles of cocaine, while 29 contained 174 green bottles of cocaine.

The container was later traced to Elekechukwu, who was arrested at his residence at Aplaku Junction, near Weija.

Upon interrogation, Elekechukwu told NACOB officials that the real owner of the goods was Chief Eke.

Elekechukwu said Chief Eke was his classmate and friend and that he (Elekechukwu) had been living in Ghana for the past 20 years, while Chief Eke had been visiting Ghana frequently for the past two years to conduct business.

Elekechukwu said anytime Chief Eke arrived in Ghana, he picked the chief up from the Kotoka International Airport and checked him into hotels.

He explained that in 2011, Chief Eke informed him about his desire to register a company in Ghana to sell cosmetic products, noting that he assisted the chief to register the De Consumables Company at the Registrar-General's Department using fake documents.

Elekechukwu said some time in December 2012, Chief Eke returned to Ghana, as usual, with import documents of his cargo of cosmetic products which he claimed was on the high seas and would arrive at the Tema Port some time in January 2013.

The two Nigerians then went to the Tema Harbour and handed over the documents to the clearing agent and advanced some money for the clearance of the goods and thereafter Chief Eke returned to Nigeria.

Mr Blankson said it took the NACOB over one week of controlled operation to lure Chief Eke back into the country for his arrest at the Accra Shopping Mall where he had scheduled a meeting with Elekechukwu and the clearing agent.

He had in his possession four Nigerian passports with different names.

Yes it is. Information about the Surface Pro and reviews are all out there on the interweb. Check out the various tech blogs like Cnet, Engagdet, Computerworld etc.

Don't confuse Windows 8 with Windows Phone 8.

One is a real OS designed for both PCs/laptops and tablets, the other is purely a phone OS (successor to the old Windows Mobile) equivalent to how iOS and Android are phone OSes.

You can install Windows 8 on your PC, and if the pc has a touchscreen monitor, you can navigate by touch like you would on modern tablets.

If you don't want all these fancy stuff and just want to go back to the old ways of using Windows, there's a "desktop" icon. Just touch it and your PC returns to the familar Windows.

Of course it's a debate on which is better for OP's use. I have touted mine with solid points. You're touting yours, everybody is speaking their minds on subject and OP would make his own decision (if he hasn't already).

Except for a couple of jokers, I don't think anyone has gone off the rails on this topic, really.

One last comment. Because Surface Pro is Windows, connectivity to other Windows devices and networking is a breeze. All major manufacturers device drivers are built into the OS.

You can easily connect a Surface Pro tablet directly to a computer network, or a printer or a scanner. Can you do that with an iPad or Android device without going through hell fire?

Have any of you ever bought a new Windows laptop and found out it has almost EVERY application you'd need to be productive? From Paint to Wordpad to all kinds of utilities?

Well, the Surface Pro tablet is the same. You don't need to go online and purchase any extra basic apps just to be able to do things you were used to on your Windows desktop machine.

dmcdad: I know what you are saying. Microsoft's AppStore is growing for sure buh for now you wont compare it with Apple's nearly 300,00 apps that were built specifically for the iPad, not to talk of the fact that you can still run all iPhones apps on the iPad. Apps on Apple's AppStore is almost clocking a million.

Guy! I love the surface very well. If good enough apps were optimized at this juncture, I would choose it over the iPad even though I am an Apple fan.

My friend, this is not an Apple vs MS argument. It's about suggesting the best tablet to use on a business trip. If OP's trip only requires him to check e-mail or surf, then by all means iPad or Android would do.

Seriously though, lets be realistic... out of those 300,000 iPhone apps, how many do you use? Secondly, how many can one be productive with?

Most of those so-called "apps" are really not anything but screensavers, fart apps, noise makers or frontends to existing web sites (which you can also access with a browser).

cyrexx: I don't think so. The new win8 apps a.k.a metro apps optimized for touchscreen, are the only apps that will run flawlessly on win 8 tablets. To run earlier win7 softwares (I won't call them apps) you will need a bulkier Intel processor-powered win8 tablet/laptop. And those win7 softwares are not even optimized for touchscreen usage.

Miscrosoft released the SURFACE PRO tablet late last year. It is not bulky. It is pretty much the same weight as an iPad or most Android tablets.

Type "Microsoft Surface Pro" into google and do your research.

Secondly, Microsoft is releasing touchscreen or "metro" versions of their bread-and-better software (ms office etc). They'd all be available at their marketplace if not already.

I personally wouldn't be caught dead lugging around a laptop AND a tablet ever again as most business people tend to do now.

You can't accomplish any serious work or an iPad or Android tablet.Those other tablets are only good for checking your mail, going on facebook or to show off that you have a tablet.

I don't understand. Microsoft also has an online marketplace with about 120,000 apps and groqwing. You can download apps on to your Win 8 tablet the same way as with Android or IPad.

In addition to that, you can also install any existing Windows apps.

cyrexx: I guess with time, windows 8 will probably catch up with ios and android on the apps issue. Then, I might consider switching over to windows.

For now, I don't think win8 can do as much as what ipad and android tablets can do. Just check out app store and Google play store and see that windows still have a long way to go. It seems as if app developers only focus on ios and android.

Dude, Windows 8 has more apps than any of those because you can run ANY currently exixting Windows app, from Microsoft Excel to Photoshop, you name it, it will run on the MS Surface Pro tablet.

Google is your friend -- do some research.

Let me explain it this way - Apple's iOS and Android are phone OSes (with minimal functionality) which were optimized to work on tablets.

Windows 8 was just release late last year. It was designed from the ground up as a full desktop/laptop OS to work on tablets. You will not lose any of the functionailty you currently enjoy on your Windows machine.

dmcdad: You are right... But one thing is certain, you will get for you to get certain apps. Windows mobile is great and lovely but the thing is, there aint much apps available for devices running Windows mobile OS compared to Apple's.

Well, talking about apps, Apple is the undisputed champion as almost every developer wants to develop something that is iOS compatible before thinking of other platforms like Android. Android do have a good number of apps at its disposal too.

My friend, Windows 8 is NOT WinMo.

It's full blown Windows (not a mobile OS), but for touchscreens, capable of running exisitng Windows apps and the new apps.

Do this: Go and pick one up at a store and try it for 15 days. If you don't like it, return it with some flimsy excuse.

OP, read this carefully. There are two versions of Windows 8 on tablets. What you want is MICROSOFT SURFACE PRO tablet. It runs the souped up version of Windows 8 which blows all other tablets (Android or Apple) out of the water. MS Surface Pro makes other tablets feel like kids toys.

The reason why the open source movement came about was because average techies like you were so much vested in the software you use daily. You had big ideas on how those softwares could be improved, but unfortunately weren't privvy to their source codes.

So the only way to make that happen was to "re-create" the original product thereby having full control. That's why the open source GPL license requires that all modifications to the original code be made freely available for others.

I know how to use Microsoft word. I use it every day. One day, I may decide to write a word processor like MS Word. When I do, would you say I modiffied MS Word to get mine? I don't think so. More than likely, I loved MS Word so much and was inspired to write the exact same thing to further add my own twist.

Secondly, Bill Gates didn't do much to CP/M-80 (which, by the way, was also a clone of CP/M owned by another company) to get his MS-DOS.

I'm not trying to take away from the accomplishments of Bill Gates. The reason why he's successful is not because he was a techie, but because he was business smart. The tech industry is litered with corpses of geniuses that died broke simply because they didn't have what it took to make money out of their inventions.

We could say Bill Gates got a lucky break. I don't know how the history of microsoft would have turned out had this deal with IBM not landed on his lap.

I mean, to sum it up, Microsoft got paid royalty for every single machine IBM sold... and let me tell you, they sold a boat load. Bill gates turned a $50,000 investment into $MILLIONS! While that was happening though, he continued to improve the product and eventually came up with Windows (inspired by Apple Macintosh, which was also bought/copied from Xerox).

Microsoft didn't make any major changes prior to licensing to IBM.

Actually it was IBM who approached Microsoft for an OS to power their PCs.

Bill gates bought an OS called CP/M-80 from a company called Seattle Computer Products for $50,000 and changed the name.

OP, could you please tell us a bit about your professional background? I mean, to be able to write your OS you'd need to understand theories of Operating Systems design. All those are (or have been) part of Computer Science curriculums at universities. Designing any software requires more than coding. You'd need to first design all its functional processes on paper, using diagrams and pseudocode to represent the various modules of your OS.

A lot of OSes have been written between 1970 and today but only a few have been adopted by the masses and ended up being successful. Do some online research. You might want to play around with a few opensource OSes as well.

You can do it, but you'd need additional skills that can only come with formall education, self education or genius.
