CrimeOluwafemi Labinjo: Family Demands Answers Over Death In US Boat Party (Photo) by Abuharib(op): 11:26am On Aug 13, 2019
The family of Oluwafemi Labinjo, who was found dead after a boat party in Lake Michigan, US is demanding answers into his sudden death.

Femi, 30, went missing while partying on a boat on July 27 with friends. His body was discovered in the water four days later (August 1).

The Nigerian was part of several persons who partied in the annual Chicago Scene Boat Party, a tradition where people link their vessels and party in an area known as the Playpen, Igbere TV reports.

According to Labinjo’s family, the deceased during the party left his friends, shoes, cellphone and other belongings and never returned.

Femi was supposed to pick up his daughter that night, but never showed up.

The Cook County medical examiner’s office said an autopsy on the corpse was inconclusive.

Mother of the deceased, Glenda Labinjo, told newsmen that the family needs to know what happened.

“Most things can be reconciled once you know the answers. We just need to know: What happened? What was the cause of death?” she said.

Femi’s father was said to have flown in from Nigeria following his death.

Head of the investigations division for the Coast guard Marine Safety Unit Chicago, Brian Hennessy, said they are unsure which boat Femi boarded before his death as three illegal charters were anchored at the Scene party.

Femi was raised in the US and was the youngest of three children who graduated from the University of Illinois in 2009.

PoliticsI Only Retired From Active Politics Not Quit – Ladoja by Abuharib(op): 9:02pm On Aug 11, 2019
A former governor of Oyo State, Rashidi Ladoja, has denied calling time on his political career.

Media reports had said the former federal legislator announced he was quitting politics.

However, Ladoja on Sunday told journalists at his Ibadan residence that he only decided not to contest any political seat again, Igbere TV reports.

“Is it possible for someone to retire from politics? Are you not a politician? And so, what are they talking about? All I said was that I am not contesting again. Is that not retirement? That is retirement,” he said.

“I say I am not contesting again but I will always go for developmental politics. Whether I am in partisan or non-partisan politics, if there are any developmental politics, I will always go for it anywhere in Nigeria. So, it is not a question of ‘siddon-look’, I am not ‘siddoning look’.”

Ladoja knocked the government saying a sincere approach to ending insecurity in the country is not being followed.

“You know most of the time they talk about insecurity we don’t sit down to look at the root cause of the problem. If we try to look at the root cause of the problem, then we will know that all these insecurities have got a root. And if we are not careful, we will be complicating it.

“Look at the Shiites people that were said to have been banned. They are calling for another Jihad. You know people take their religion very seriously and they will not want their religion to be killed. And that is another problem in our hands,” he said.

PoliticsSowore’s AAC Denounces Proposed National Convention by Abuharib(op):
A faction of the African Action Congress (AAC) loyal to its national chairman, Omoyele Sowore, has denounced a national convention scheduled for Friday.

Deputy National Secretary of the party, Joshua Adeoye, in a statement late Thursday described the organisers as “criminal actors”, adding that no convention has been authorised by the party.

The party warned the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), its members and the media against paying attention to the convention, Igbere TV reports.

“No such gathering has been planned or sanctioned by the AAC; and any such gatherings in the name of the party are baseless, criminal and motivated by mischief,” Adeoye said.

“This criminal effort is purportedly led by one Leonard Nzenwa, who was recently expelled by the National Executive Committee of the party in a well-attended emergency meeting on the 27th of July 2019.

“The African Action Congress therefore issues a call to the police and security agencies for the arrest of Mr. Leonard Nzenwa and his criminal actors, and calls on the general public to dissociate themselves with any actions of this expunged delinquent,” the statement said.

Sowore will remain in the custody of the Department of State Services (DSS) for 45 days after the Federal High Court in Abuja on Thursday granted the secret police’s permission to detain the Sahara Reporters publisher for spearheading a revolution movement.

PoliticsBREAKING: Court Orders DSS To Detain Sowore For 45 Days by Abuharib(op): 11:09am On Aug 08, 2019
The Federal High Court in Abuja has granted the Department of State Service (DSS) permission to detain the convener of RevolutionNow, Omoyele Sowore, for 45 days.

Justice Taiwo Taiwo gave the ruling on Thursday, adding that the detention order would be renewable after the expiration of first 45 days on September 21, Igbere TV reports.

A lawyer representing the secret police service, G.O. Abadua, had on Tuesday appeared before the court to move the agency’s ex parte application to detain Sowore for 90 days.

Mr Sowore, 48, was arrested last Saturday by DSS operatives ahead of Monday’s #RevolutionNow protest, which he had spearheaded.

He was the presidential candidate of the African Action Congress in the February 2019 general election.

DSS anchored its application on the provision of section 27(1) of the Terrorism (Prevention) Amendment Act.

Without counter-argument by Sowore’s legal team, Justice Taiwo said he had to grant the application “only to the extent” of allowing the security agency to keep the respondent in custody for only 45 days for the applicant to conclude its investigation.

The judge said, although the hearing of the application was one-sided as provided by 27(1) of the Terrorism (Prevention) Amendment Act, the use of the word, “may”, in the provision “is directory” and not “discretionary”.

Former presidential candidate, Oby Ezekwesili, has spoken against the arrest of the publisher of SaharaReporters, Omoyele Sowore, calling on President Muhammadu Buhari to ensure his immediate release.

PoliticsFight Political Leaders To Get Minimum Wage Settled, Oshiomhole Charges Workers by Abuharib(op): 11:21am On Aug 02, 2019
National chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Adams Oshiomhole, has called on organised labour to challenge political leaders to ensure that state resources meet the needs of workers and other Nigerians.

Oshiomhole said this in Abuja on Friday at a reception in honour of the Director-General of International Labour Organisation (ILO), Guy Ryder.

Oshiomhole, a former labour leader, said the organised labour must adopt aggressive engagements to get political leaders to pay more attention to their welfare.

“We have to do things differently about minimum wage. So if every other cost is changing, and labour cost is constant…, somebody is being squeezed.

“Rising crises, stagnant wages, a very miserable lifestyle, and you have to fight for that,” he said.

“And we now see in Nigeria the difference between signing an agreement and the challenge of translating those laws, and even the contradiction of signing laws first before getting consultants to tell us how to implement these laws.

“Just to tell you that from inside, I am much more convinced that unions should not only exist, but should have the capacity and ruthlessly deploy that capacity to ensure that the resources of states are dissipated in favour of working people and working families.”

Mr Ryder said Nigeria trade union movements have made great impact in the defence of basic fundamental rights in line with the provisions of the organisation.

According to him, the organised labour has also played an extraordinary role in building the nation’s democracy which agrees with the fundamental values of the ILO.

President of the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC), Ayuba Wabba, commended the ILO for the privilege given to Nigeria to host the Global Youth Employment Forum.

RomanceLady With Big Backside Causes Commotion, Gets Sexually Assaulted (photos, Video) by Abuharib(op):
African women are not only beautiful and fleshy, they also have all the banging curves in the right places. Women in general are overwhelmingly the victims of sexual harassment/assault and so most of the stats we see relate to their experience.

A yet to be identified lady with a big backside caused a stir among some motorcyclists who subjected her to sexual assault. The crazy motorcyclists also recorded themselves as they took turns in grabbing the lady's backside amidst screams, Fox Meek reports.

In the video which has since gone viral, the lady dressed in a black-colored dress felt uncomfortable with the unwarranted attention and sexual assault as she was seen struggling to defend herself from the continuous assault.

All her struggle to stop the motorcyclists who appeared to be having fun with her rather unique backside was in vain as she couldn't do much since she was on a moving motorcycle.

PoliticsJUST IN: Young People Now Learning From Me - Senator Elisha Abbo Says by Abuharib(op): 12:38pm On Jul 31, 2019
Senator Elisha Abbo representing Adamawa-North has said that young people around the world are now learning from him and beginning to see the difference between aspiring for office and being in office.

The senator said this on receiving the ICON of Democracy Award last week from the Intercommunity Awareness for Change and Development Initiative in Abuja, Igbere TV reports.

Abbo appeared in a viral video early July assaulting a nursing mother who tried to defend an attendant, Bibra Warmate, at a intimacy gadget shop in Abuja.

The lawmaker urged young people aspiring for public office to be careful of what they do which could be used against them in future.

“It is not just about being in power for the sake of being in power. There is so much responsibility on young leaders, on leaders all over the world.

“I believe that young people all over the world will be learning from me that there is now a huge gap between wanting to be in power and being in power to deal with the challenges of politics and swimming in the murky waters of Nigerian politics. And I believe that young people will draw (sic) straight from me,” he said.

Abbo added with a smile on his face, “You are all aware of what happened a few weeks back where certain things happened and I have been in the public space. I was the number one trending topic on social media. I was number one trending on Twitter and the rest of it but that is leadership.

“That is politics for you. Don’t be surprised that what you did 10 years ago would come back to haunt you and that is why you must always remember that even though you are a young person now, you will contest elections tomorrow.”

Politics“Nigerians Are Angry” – Abdulsalami Abubakar Worried About Security Crisis by Abuharib(op): 11:43am On Jul 30, 2019
Security crisis worries Abdulsalami, Gambari warns against disintegration

Former Head of State, General Abdulsalami Abubakar, on Monday, expressed concern about the rising tension in the country.

Abdulsalami said some of the problems the country had been experiencing demanded urgent action from government and individuals.

The ex-dictator spoke at a roundtable discussion on the security challenges facing the country organised by the General Abdulsalami Abubakar Institute for Peace and Conflict Resolution in Minna, Niger State. The event began on Monday.

He said, “There is anger in the land and voices of reason are drowning very rapidly. It is clear that the situation requires that we all live up to the expectations of a nation that puts so much value on elders.

“The roundtable discussion, which has participants drawn from across the country and represents interests and perspectives of the nature of the issues and the solutions needed to resolve them, is the centre’s contribution to the search for solutions to the problems we are currently experiencing.”

He added, “We are all here as Nigerians who share responsibility for the state of our nation. Therefore, if any forum can help in the accurate identification of the problems and solutions to a peaceful and united Nigeria, let us be counted among such a forum.

“This roundtable discussion is not a mini-national conference or a forum to review the constitution, neither will it be fixated on those issues that feed the prevailing tensions. These are matters that will doubtless appear in our discussions, but they should not be allowed to distract from the key goals of the roundtable discussion.”

The Chairman of the roundtable discussion and former Minister of External Affairs, Prof Ibrahim Gambari, told those clamouring for the disintegration of the country as the solution to the current security crisis to take a second look at the experiences of other countries that had done so.

Gambari also said there could never be a military solution to any conflict, insisting there was no alternative to dialogue in resolving conflicts.

He added, “To bring conflicts under control, you must look for a common ground.

“The forum should not be a mere paperwork, but taking real action. A lot is expected from this forum, we must not allow things to fall apart.”

Ex-Minister of Foreign Affairs, Prof Bolaji Akinyemi, Northern Elders’ Forum leader Prof Ango Abdullahi and the Emir of Bida Alhaji Yahaya Abubakar are participating in the event.

Meanwhile, the National Secretary of the Miyetti Allah Cattle Breeders Association of Nigeria, Othman Ngelzarma, on Monday, said the decision of leaders from the Southern and Middle Belt Leaders Forum to shun the event would not stop them from being part of the programme.

SMBLF, comprising pan-Yoruba group, Afenifere; Ohanaeze Ndigbo; Pan-Niger Delta Forum; and the Middle Belt Forum, said in a statement co-signed by Chief Edwin Clark (PANDEF); Chief Ayo Adebanjo (Afenifere); Chief John Nwodo (Ohanaeze); and Dr Bitrus Pogu (MBF) that they would not be part of the event because MACBAN was invited to the meeting.

In an interview with one of our correspondents, Ngelzarma said the herders were not bothered by SMBLF’s decision.

He said, “I am already at the summit. The Southern and Middle Belt leaders are entitled to their opinions as association leaders. We are right now attending the historic summit.”

The Supreme Court has dismissed a suit filed by Gilbert Nnaji seeking disqualification of former Enugu State Governor, Chimaroke Nnamani, as senator for Enugu East district.

In a lead judgement on Monday, Justice Mary Odili ruled that the case was statute-barred, Igbere TV reports.

“This appeal is hereby dismissed having been withdrawn by the counsel to the appellant without any objection and there shall be no order as to costs,” she said.

The Court of Appeal in Enugu had in June dismissed an appeal challenging the clearance of Senator Nnamani to contest the Enugu East Senatorial District primaries by the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).

Nnaji had in October 2018 approached an Abuja Federal High Court, asking that his name be submitted to the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) as the PDP candidate for the senatorial district.

He claimed that Nnamani was not present during the screening of candidates and was not qualified to stand for the primary elections.

Sources in the Federal Ministry of Justice, who pleaded not to be named, have disclosed that the order would be published on Monday evening, Igbere TV reports.

The Official Gazette is published by a Federal Government-owned printing press based in Lagos.

A Federal High Court in Abuja had on Friday ordered that the Shiites be labelled a terrorist group.

Justice Nkeonye Maha also ordered the Federal Government to publish the order in two national newspapers.

The Islamic group has recently been involved in violent protests resulting in multiple deaths including that of a Channels TV reporter, Precious Owolabi, and a deputy commissioner of police.

PoliticsTolu Ogunlesi Blasts Guardian Newspaper For Claiming Gbajabiamila Snubbed Jibrin by Abuharib(op): 11:35am On Jul 26, 2019
Tolu Ogunlesi, social media aide of President Muhammadu Buhari, has knocked the Guardian newspaper for claiming that the Speaker of the House of Representatives, Femi Gbajabiamila, shunned Abdulmumin Jibrin in his selection of heads of House committees.

Jibrin is the former Director-General of Femi Gbajabiamila Campaign Organisation.

Mr Gbajabiamila had on Thursday announced the leadership of the 109 house standing committees, surprisingly leaving out Jibrin who played a huge role in his emergence as speaker, Igbere TV reports.

The Guardian newspaper headline for the report read: ‘Gbajabiamila creates 105 committees, compensates key allies, dumps Jibrin’.

Mr Ogunlesi attacked the newspaper on Friday, saying it was wrong to deduce that Jibrin was ‘dumped’.

“Disturbing ‘journalism’ from @GuardianNigeria. What’s w obsession for jumping to baseless conclusions? No evidence in story they tried to reach @AbdulAbmJ or @femigbaja before declaring ‘Gbaja dumps Jibrin’ Story carries no reference to Jibrin’s tweet. This is not Journalism!

“These things are not that hard, really. And these lapses are not acceptable from Nigeria’s leading papers. The blogs can probably get away with any rubbish they want – not the Guardian!” Ogunlesi said.
