Former national chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC), John Odigie-Oyegun, has told his successor, Adams Oshiomhole, to take his hands away from the politics of Edo State, Igbere TV reports. Odigie-Oyegun’s comments follow a push by the House of Representatives last week to take over the Edo State House of Assembly which has been ladened with controversies with several lawmakers-elect, reportedly loyal to Oshiomhole, still to be inaugurated, Igbere TV reports. In a statement on Sunday by his public affairs adviser, Ray Morphy, Odigie-Oyegun wondered why Oshiomhole had failed to realised that Governor Godwin Obaseki should be supported as the only APC governor in the South-South geopolitical zone rather than vilifying and destabilising his administration. He also wondered why Oshiomhole forgot that he never interfered in Edo affairs when the former labour leader was governor of the state. Odigie-Oyegun urged the Progressive Governors not to stand aside and watch their fellow governor being hampered by a party chairman whose actions may lead to political misfortune of the party. “The recent outburst by Governor Obaseki and the report by the House of Representatives ad-hoc committee, indicting the current National Chairman of the APC, have confirmed my earlier claim that Oshiomhole is not only the architect but also responsible for fuelling the crisis in Edo State. “In the face of these confirmations, I want to urge Oshiomhole to stop disgracing the ruling party and the good people of Edo state. “I wonder how he could easily forget that I never interfered or bothered about how he ran the government as the then governor of Edo State all the while I occupied the position of the party’s National Chairman,” he said. The Oluwo of Iwo land, Oba Abdulrasheed Akanbi, has called for death penalty for kidnappers in Osun State to help put an end to kidnapping, Igbere TV reports. Igbere TV reports that during a courtesy visit by the traditional rulers of Iwo land to Governor Gboyega Oyetola in Osogbo on Thursday, the Oluwo said kidnapping had become an issue of concern in Osun. The monarchs visited the governor to felicitate with him on his victory at the Supreme Court as the winner of the September 2018 governorship election. “We traditional rulers want to beg the governor on behalf of other royal fathers to strictly enforce a harsh penalty for kidnappers when apprehended. “If possible it should be death penalty instead of life imprisonment as the case may be,” Oba Akanbi said. “I am convinced that when a death penalty is enforced, that will make the perpetrators to have a rethink and by that, the evil act might be reduced or stopped.” The Oluwo said traditional rulers were ready to support Mr Oyetola. “We want you to create a synergy between chairmen of local governments and traditional rulers in the area of Internally Generated Revenue through taxation, mining, among others,” he said. Oyetola, in response, thanked the royal fathers for their visit, saying that the judiciary was addressing the issue of kidnapping to know the penalty to be recommended. He said the government would look into the synergies recommended by the monarch in terms of IGR for the success of his administration. Oyetola promised the traditional rulers that the All Progressives Congress (APC) and his administration would ensure that the state remained safe for people to stay without panic. Presidential candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in the 2019 election, Atiku Abubakar, has raised alarm over the rising debt profile of Nigeria, Igbere TV reports. The Debt Management Office had in a release on Wednesday said Nigeria’s total public debt rose to N24.947 trillion as of March 31, 2019 from N24.387 trillion as of December 31, 2018, growing marginally by 2.30 per cent. The former Vice President, in a statement on Wednesday by his media adviser, Paul Ibe, obtained by Igbere TV, said the debt figure had doubled from ₦12 trillion when President Muhammadu Buhari was inaugurated for his first term on May 29, 2015. “As alarming as this is, what is more troubling is that between December 2018 and March 2019, the administration of General Buhari added an additional and unprecedented ₦560 billion debt to our national debt profile. “What could this junta have needed that amount for? If you take those dates into account, they fall on the period of electioneering, when monies were freely distributed by officials of this government in the name of Tradermoni and other election gimmicks that were discontinued after the election. “As someone who headed the National Economic Council that paid off Nigeria’s entire debt under the visionary leadership of President Olusegun Obasanjo, Atiku Abubakar has the moral authority to call those who are turning Nigeria into a beggar nation to halt the drift into unsustainable borrowing. “We cannot continue to borrow to pay salaries and support luxuries. Already, over 50% of our revenue is going towards debt servicing, not even debt repayments,” Atiku said. “We raise this alarm as responsible citizens and call on other lovers of Nigeria to speak up as we have no other nation to call our home, but Nigeria,” he added. A former member of the house of representatives from Kogi state, Hon Sunday Karimi, said no change of governorship candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC) would absolve the party of Governor Yayaya Bello’s administration in the state, Igbere TV reports. Karimi, who represented Yagba federal constituency in the lower chamber of the national assembly, said any attempt by the APC to abandon Bello at this stage after the colossal damage done to the people and state was not enough to appease the people. The former lawmaker stated that Kogi people could no longer be deceived. According to him, APC and Bello are inseparable, says following the governor’s lacklustre performance has made Kogi the poverty headquarters of Nigeria. He said the people of the state are waiting for the governorship election in November to chase APC government out of the state. Kogi people, according to Karimi, could no longer be fooled, pointing out that the people are now more than ever before resolute in their resolve to resist autocratic rule. While noting that Kogi people can no longer take the sufferings that have become unbearable any longer, he said many Kogi people have lost their lives because of APC misrule and Gov Bello’s ineptitude. Former presidential candidate, Oby Ezekwesili, has attacked President Muhammadu Buhari, saying that becoming president was his ‘one and only outcome’, Igbere TV reports. Mrs Ezekwesili said this in series of tweets on Tuesday. “It is more than obvious that ‘Becoming President’ was the one and only Outcome for @MBuhari. The former education minister added: “Do we at all have a President in office these days? This is a legitimate question that should be answered by @AsoRock. How can a Government be so oblivious of the temperature of the country it is supposedly ‘governing’? “Let’s say @AsoRock says we do have a President, can they please let him know that our Constitution has no provision for Imperial Presidency?
