PoliticsRe: Tinubu Gives Marching Orders On Road Maintenance Nationwide by adabaraabdul: 9:04pm On Jan 03, 2025
DeLaRue:
Once all the Development Commission for each region is fully established, maintenance of federal roads within each region should be handed over to each region's Commission.

The idea that 4 or 5 ogas sitting at the Ministry of Works in Abuja can effectively oversee maintenance of federal roads all over the country is unrealistic.

It will never work effectively.

These works should be overseen by Development Commissions which will be closer to the people and know what is happening to roads within their respective regions.

Imagine each Development Commission having an annual spending allocation of N1 trillion each, development will be faster across all regions.

I think this is what Mr Tinubu is working towards.
How is NDDC doing and how has it been doing with all the projects it's been handling. What is your score card for that Commission. I am just trying to let you know it isn't about putting our roads under state Commissions, put capable hands, provide adequate funding and make continuous monitoring. What our road maintenance lacks right now is funding. There's adequate manpower and monitoring to see us through.

Point of correction, FEDERAL ROADS MAINTENANCE AGENCY (FERMA) is the lead agency in charge of maintenance of FEDERAL ROADS all over Nigeria, not ministry of works. And also there isn't 2 or 3 ogas anywhere In charge of maintenance of federal roads nationwide. From my observation each state in Nigeria has a federal road maintenance engineer that's in charge to handle all roads in his or her purview. Let us start to looks at the amounts needed to maintain our roads nationwide, the state of our roads and how much government budgets for the maintenance yearly. If u like put federal roads under each state commission, as long as the money required to maintain such roads are paltry, there is no magic that can happen. The status quo would remain.

ValCon888:
I read the news here how Burna Boy ended his show because an overexcited fan climbed the stage.

After reading it, I went to my spotify app and clicked "Don't play this artist."

I think it is the height of hubris for a music artist to punish thousands of fans that paid good money to have a good time because of the sins of 1 fan.

That confirmed to me how egotistical this guy is and I blocked his music immediately.

And if you don't know, Burna Boy can never compare to Fela. Even if he wins a million Grammies he cannot lace Fela's shoes.

The impact of Fela on Nigerian society will still be felt after a hundred years. In 20 years Burna Boy will be forgotten.

One is an eternal icon while the other makes a mockery of the giants he's standing on.
I think you might have gotten it all twisted. For the sake of clarity that show was free from the Side of the African Giant, he wasn't going to be paid a dime and his performance was suppose to be for just 10mins and the dude went all out, over an hour. For the sake of clarity the guy that jumped on him cut him off his train of chain-performance. What burna boy did is akin to what a pastor did recently when he ended his sermon. You don't cut an artist, a high performing one for that matter off his rhythm of performance, that's why you see that they have body guards to avoid scenarios like this. I blame the body guards for how the event ended and really I can't blame Burna boy cos it was after all a free show.

PoliticsRe: VeryDarkMan Apologizes To Yahaya Bello After Seeing The Crowd That Welcomed Him by adabaraabdul: 5:35pm On Jan 03, 2025
[quote author=Trendtips post=133540258]You are right , no record of death was seen in Kogi but Kogi State's COVID-19 response, led by Governor Yahaya Bello, has been contentious. Despite the pandemic's severity, Bello claimed COVID-19 was a hoax, stating fear of the virus kills faster than the virus itself. This stance sparked concerns about the state's preparedness and response. Notably, Kogi reported zero COVID-19 deaths, but critics argue this may be due to underreporting or lack of testing. The governor's skepticism and inaction potentially exacerbated the the prognosis for covid 19.
The arguments for the presence and consequences of covid 19 was very wild and real, if truly covid 19 was that present and given the Governor's stance that covid was almost non existent in the state, we would have recorded thousands of deaths and there wouldn't have been any way these deaths would have been covered up. Whilst I am not holding brief for the Governor, for the case of how he handled covid19, I will give him a pass mark.

Trendtips:
I guess you guys missed his point or I hope , i am right about what i think is the situation he is trying to point out grin

Yahaya Bello's controversial governance has sparked widespread criticism, yet he still receives overwhelming support from some quarters. His administration has faced allegations of corruption, electoral fraud, and incitement to violence, including a US visa ban for undermining democracy in Nigeria.

Bello's denial of COVID-19 and opposition to vaccines have also raised concerns. Despite these controversies, his supporters have rallied around him, even after his loss in the 2023 presidential election.

It's puzzling that despite his questionable leadership, people still welcome him enthusiastically. This paradox raises questions about the complexities of Nigerian politics and voter behavior.

Some of Bello's notable controversies include:
- Corruption Allegations: Misappropriation of ₦80.2 billion and laundering charges
- Electoral Fraud: Accusations of rigging and violence during elections
- COVID-19 Denial: Refusal to acknowledge the pandemic's severity
- Vaccine Opposition: Claims that vaccines are harmful
- US Visa Ban: Sanctioned for undermining democracy

These issues have led to widespread criticism, yet Bello's is welcomed with open arms
Good observations. Can you throw more lights on his denial of covid 19 and the effects of his continual governance during the pandemic. Cos I was thinking people would have died in droves in Kogi state given the Governor's denial of the pandemic.

Both of them should not back down. The plaintiff should not be begged or agree to drop the case. He should see it to the end.

The defendant too should not beg or give up. He should provide evidence to back his claim or risk going to jail.

This is what is good for Nigeria and the judiciary.
I pray he has evidence to back his claims and he's able to prove himself in court. If he doesn't and he is punished for his offences, it would serve as a deterrence to others. So all good.

You are a kid bro, defamation is civil law. Who told you I am Igbo. Go and check my house near Fashola at Onala. grin grin grin grin
deformation is not 100% civil law. Pls do more research on this. Thank you.

Defamation is indeed considered both a civil and criminal offense in Nigeria. Under the country's laws, defamation is defined as any written or printed article published about a person without lawful justification or excuse, exposing them to public contempt, scorn, ridicule, shame, or disgrace ¹.

Criminal Defamation Laws
The Criminal Code, specifically sections 373-376, and the Penal Code, sections 391-395, outline the criminal aspects of defamation. According to these laws, anyone found guilty of publishing defamatory matter can face imprisonment for up to two years or a fine ² ¹ ³.

Civil Defamation Laws
In civil cases, defamation is considered a tort, allowing individuals to seek damages for harm to their reputation. The Nigerian courts have established guidelines for proving defamation, including showing that the words were defamatory, referred to the plaintiff, and were published to at least one person other than the plaintiff ¹ ³.

Notable Sections of the Law
- *Section 373 of the Criminal Code*: Defines defamation as matter likely to injure a person's reputation.
- *Section 375 of the Criminal Code Act*: States that publishing defamatory matter can lead to imprisonment for one year.
- *Section 39(1) of the 1999 Constitution*: Guarantees freedom of expression, but allows for limitations due to libel, slander, or injurious falsehood.

Overall, Nigeria's laws recognize defamation as a serious offense, punishable under both civil and criminal jurisdictions..

The poor people dieing everyday is that one too karma? Or karma is only for people in government and their relatives. Poverty is really a disease.

He is old in age but he can still drive

The issue is anytime I'm driving him
Instead of him to relax
He will turn to Conductor every 2 seconds, sometimes he will shout that I'm speeding to fast but I'm not going past 60 kmph

Today I drove him to village and on the way he did the same shouting and telling me to look out for bumps.

This distracts me and makes me lose focus. Out of anger i shouted back at him to keep quiet and allow me drive.
That i have eyes and i can see the bumps

Now i told him that he should never enter my car or unless he will keep quiet and allow me concentrate on my driving.
No talking, he should keep it shut through out the whole journey.

Now he is feeling bad, did i do anything bad??
What you did is bad. He's aged. You shld have relaxed and explained to him calmly about how his actions are distracting you. You need to apologise to the old man. I can't believe you banned him from entering your vehicle. Common come off it.

you are not properly stating the main rudiments of the tax here for people to understand. There are some portions there in the tax reform bill that I feel should be amended. But in all, the bill should be extensively deliberated on before it is passed.
