CultureNigerian Men With Higher Education & Choice Of Women : ?! by adabeke2(op): 12:31am On Jul 21, 2009
Why is it that Nigerian men such as attorneys or doctors , those with higher education ., go over to Naija to qet married to women who don't know their left from right . Those who didn't even finish high school / SS3 . When they bring them over to the U.S. they treat them like idiots , Just because they are smarter than them . Ikpa ngaga thats all they do . Why is that ? One of my relatives did just that and I don't get the point of them just marrinq because of that fact . Then when their wifves come over they don't want them to qo to school ! Why ?! huh

Abojupupa:
The ladies are as guilty as the Lecturers/professors. Some deliberately go to the lecturers just to be noticed. Imagine a female student asking if she could follow her lecturer for lunch! Some go to the lecturer's office to GREET him; especially if he teaches a compilsory course! Yet some want to associate with lecturers considered to be influential, so that they could get some sort of protection.
@ada_beke
I am not aware of female lecturers/professors asking out their male students; can you shed more light on this?
To Abojupupa --*

I mentioned female lecturers because I didn't want to sound sexist ., but to be quite honest some of them do . They are just better at hiding it and the fact that the Nigerian "entertainment" industry hasn't caught on to it makes it unknown for most people. Let's be real , we known at least a hand-ful of them have done this before .,
--* i hope that answers your question for me ., anything else just keep on asking like you did .
thank you ( for the reply to the post ) smiley

Enquirer:
Sexual harassment is not seen as a serious offense in Nigeria. That is why the burden is shifted to the person being harassed rather the offender. Some lecturers harass even decently dressed girls. They feel nobody can get them.

I remember when some lecturers got dismissed from a university of technology owned by the federal government in the south-east in a bed-for-marks scandal. The girls involved weren't outrageous dressers. This goes to show there are other motives.
i qet what you are sayinq , but what is this "bed-for-marks" scandal ? can you tell me more ?

EducationNigerian Male Professors ?! by adabeke2(op): 6:18pm On Jul 10, 2009
Why is it that Nigerian male professors get away with threatening their female students that they will fail them unless they sleep with them ., I'm not only talking about the male professors but also the females ( oh yes ! some do ) ., no double standards ., but why is that ? Then we wonder ., thinking about why other countries don't take Nigerians as serious as they should when it comes to education , Its dominant in nigerian movies too ., Most of our graduates can not defend their papers or make sense out of what they were taught., not only that but they can't relate what they learned in school to real-life situations. What then becomes the future of higher education in our beautiful nation of Nigeria ? undecided
CultureNigerian Men & Their Choice Of Wives?! by adabeke2(op): 5:57pm On Jul 10, 2009
Why is it that Nigerian men who live in the States go back home to Naija ., looking for a wife ., not one whom they would marry for love., but one who is in the medical field , such as a nurse or doctor , the ones they think they can play around with and spend their money as they please. and on top of that , they want their wife to cook for them ., clean., do the shopping ., do laundry and all that a housewife should do ? its like they want their wife to be superwoman., the stupid version. I really don't understand and i think we should start getting some answers .

savanaha:
I can't speak for other people but for me and only me. I shorten my name because it is very long and when translated in Igbo is actually a sentence. When I introduce myself I say my full name what is means (which people always say is a beautiful name) and then give the shrotened version. Since I love the meaning of my name I get easily frustrated when people pronounce it wrong so as not to embarrass the person I shorten it. I don't tell Nigerians the shortened version of my name.

I have met Nigerians that completely change their name (eg. from Tamie to Jamie) or Chinasa to Diana. Maybe there are ashamed I don't know but am not.
i understand and like what your saying ., , but for me when someone asks me for my name is give them the full name , no nickname or anything.because i dont like nicknames , but that is a personal prefrence smiley

The guy on American Idol is called Chikezie and I didnt see him shortening his name.

I dont see why its a big deal if someone shortens their name anyway. Do people not shorten names in Nigeria? huh
im talkinq mainly about children & teenagers , he is an adult . he knows his culture and appreciates it.
children now really have no clue . they lack pride
& besides ., theres nothing wrong with shortening your name ,
its just the motive behind it , why they shortened their name ,
is it embarssment to them ?

CultureNigerian Children Ashamed Of Their Names ? by adabeke2(op): 3:30pm On Jul 06, 2009
becko! can somebody please tell me why our nigerian children are ashamed of their names ?
what is wrong with it ? is it because we are a little diffrent when it comes to pronouncation and spelling ., but what about the asians, the indians, the spanish and the french , most of the naija kids when asked " what is your name?" instead of saying Ugochukwu or Chimezie or Ijeoma they say bobby , chi-chi, or omy , WHAT IN THE WORLD ! Nwatakiri kedu ihe bu ahagi ! Gini bu aha nna gi ! Geesz , What is bobby ?! Mechae onu gi ! Going back to the main topic , , why do you think our nigerian kids are ashamed of their names? where do they get it from ?! is it their[parents' fault ? where is naija heading from this ? Im all about culture and tradition ,so when i hear this it really shames me ., what can be done about this though? what is it about our name that we can't stand up tall and say it with PRIDE ! huh
Jobs/VacanciesNigeria's Horrible Economy ?! What Can Be Done ?! by adabeke2(op): 3:00pm On Jul 06, 2009
Why is it that the nigerian government is complaning about the amount of jobless people , when they well know that in this corrupt naija community you can't get anythinq unless you havr a connection ?!
my uncle just finished his youth service and is trying to get a job , he was told to come back at a later time ., when he did he didn't get the job instead he lost it to one of his friends who he KNOWS was not qualified as much as he himself was to get the job
He later found out that his friend's godfather owned the business ,
I dont get why we are trying to improve nigeria when nigerians don't want to put in effort towards making things straight huh
How do you think we can get naija up and ruuning again ? Is it possible ? huh
CultureRe: Some Nigerian Parents Refusing To Teach Their Children Their Native Language by adabeke2(op): 11:41pm On Jul 05, 2009
chiogo:
It's funny to me when people say they don't have any accent; EVERYONE has an accent. so long as you speak english which has become almost a universal language, different people use different accents while speaking english. It just depends on people's definition of the word.

In America, when they say you have an accent, it means you have a foreign accent which is different from the American accent. They just have an ignorant way of saying it, like their way of speaking english emerged from nowhere. There's a Bostonian accent, a new york accent, a southern accent, etc. Ofcourse a Nigerian has an accent likewise an American, a Ghanaian, a Jamaican, Bajan, etc.

To really answer the topic, inferiority complex is what is happening. which kain yeye accent that they don't want their kids to have?? tongue I know there's an igbo accent, no doubt. I sure don't have it when speaking english and even if I do, so? angry
I like what youre sayinqq , EVERYONE HAS AN ACCENT , lOl cheesy me too sometimes , but i think it ddepens on the people you are around
CelebritiesJim Iyke Vs Van Viker ?! by adabeke2(op): 2:03am On Jul 04, 2009

CultureSome Nigerian Parents Refusing To Teach Their Children Their Native Language by adabeke2(op): 1:44am On Jul 04, 2009
why is it that most nigerian parents , especially the igbo ones refuse to teach their children igbo ,
when i asked some of my uncles and auntys they said its because " they don't want their children to have accents"
, what is that suopposed to mean ? THEN when they see children like infants to teenhers speaking the language
they are amazed and i always hear "i wish " responses , why is that huh
i really dont get it ?
