Science/Technology / Re: How Efficient Are Solar Electricity Power Systems? by Adebimpe1(m): 11:20pm On Dec 12, 2016 |
debbie: You're very right, Debbie. The Nigerian govt. really needs someone to talk sense into them. Apart from the high cost of maintenance, getting high quality panels are the main issue, as our business men have flooded the market with inferior panels, for extremely high cost. Solar panels, just like every household devices are of different grades, standards, qualities and prices. In India at the moment, you can get the best quality solar panels for cheap prices (not like super cheap) and use for like 2-years without any form of maintenance. Batteries inclusive. Solar energy generations is a core business point at the moment; technologies like "Advancion" are taking over the renewables energy world by storm, with very minimal maintenance(s), done as per schedule/routine. You can practically use your panels/batteries for 5-years without doing jack! Our field guys only makes sure that dusts are removed from the panels surface once a week. These panels are made in India, and currently the best in the market. The govt. of Nigeria is so naïve, that they have never even held a solar panel in their hands. In most parts of the world, all locals/citizen are encouraged to go solar, and you even have the advantages to connect to the national grid and make lots of money selling power to the govt. You use your power that's generated by you, and sell the remaining to the govt. through the grid. At the end of the month, you get paid. Most Houses in the Middle East have solar panel. Power plants are shutting down. Solar plants are hot-cakes and its even quite easy to install/construct. A 200 MW "Advancion" solar power plant cost 400 Million Naira (design, build, and maintain) and our silly leaders are crying everywhere. But then, what kind of regulations do they have In place that makes business difficult for the woman you talked about? Just curious. 3 Likes |

EastGold: Hard policies? Please, Educate us. A country where her citizens do not pay tax will NEVER grow. Everybody wants to leave Nigeria to the USA, yet very few knows that you get to pay between 40-50% of your monthly salary as tax (both sate and federal tax) I know a guy who earns $6,000 monthly in the US, he pays 45% of this as tax, pays $1,200 as rent, around $350 as utilities bill, aound $320 as insurance, buys petrol and feed himself. How much does he have left? The UK pays similar tax and that's why these countries are growing massively. If Nigeria wants to grow, we have to start taking taxes seriously! 2 Likes |

2n2k: You are right. Diesel is usually moved by tankers anywhere in the world, except in advanced country where the power station is in direct negotiation/contract with refineries. Here, fuel transfer lines are built and diesel supply are monitored by flow-meters, so as to check and calculate quantities used. Diesel Storage tanks of at least 5000 meter cubic must be constructed (usage/reserve in case of emergency). I'm sure you've heard of liquefied natural gas. Jordan, a country in the middle east, with 9 Million population has no single mineral resources or crude oil, and yet are able to generate 6000 MW at the moment. How do they run their natural gas fired power plants? LNG. They get supplies from Saudi Arabia and Israel at the port of Aqaba, and transport these liquefies gases by tanks to be used in power station. Nigeria has LNG and should start utilizing also. |
Politics / Re: Sokoto Test Runs Independent Power Project (Pics) by Adebimpe1(m): 5:43pm On Dec 01, 2016 |
obailala:Well, it all depends on the kind of power plant. The said amount for this very power plant is somewhat logical...But as I said, it depends. Natural gas engines have outputs/capacities between 5MW - 20MW, some engines have higher outputs, depending on the specifications. It should be noted also, that these engines can either burn solely on natural gas, or a mixture of natural gas and LFO (liquid fuel oil/diesel). LFO here, serves as the pilot fuel, and NG as main fuel. Some burns with HFO (heavy fuel oil) In the case of LFO as pilot fuel, an approximate quantity of 1.5 ton - 2.5 ton maybe used daily, depending on load and run-time. I think this particular engine uses LFO only (just my thought). That is bad business, and whoever advises on such should be flogged, considering we've got gas in abundance. OBJ and GEJ are frauds, or whoever is in charge. You can build a Wartsila powered Power station of 250-MW with $350 million, from ROW(right of way/ground zero) to completion and commissioning. This is not just a power plant of low standard, but one of world class standards, meeting all international regulations. Same amount may also be used to erect a combined-cycle power plant of 360MW. 2 Likes |

I can relate with what you're going through. But then, you Have to really sit down and plan it through.. How long have you been working? Have you before now thought of doing something in a later time, something you can call your own after quitting a job, or did you just wake up one morning and think you should just quit because you're not being taken seriously at work the way you wanted to be taken? Have you talked to your boss about How you want to be taken seriously? What was his response? And if at all your plan is to go solo, have you anything in mind that you've got ideas, training or skills at, that's definitely going to make you stand firm? Pls know, that even if you go solo, the first six months will be shaky, but once you're determined, it will be fine. If you have nothing in mind to do if you quit, and you've not acquired the skill, I'd advise you go learn it. Find a place professional and start learning. Once you're good to go, then you move, quit and start up. Your take home salary is ok considering the current economic recession. But then, Once you're married you will see it's almost impossible to save much. So if you plan to quit, hold on and discuss with your woman. Once your ok in your plan to start up as your own boss, then you guys can proceed. Do not quit your job unless you've got a very good back up plan. Godspeed. 1 Like |
Education / Make Use Of Your Intuition And Be Great. by Adebimpe1(m): 2:09am On Nov 11, 2016 |
It's not how long you've worked that determines how much wealth you're entitled to; work does not guarantee abundance... In my short walk in life I've witnessed events that a man of 90 is yet to witness.. You may have worked for 50 years and still not be able to afford $50. And a young man may have worked for 50 months and be worth $50 million..life is a parable. I knew a man who once told me; "you don't learn to use left hand at old age"...such great words...what he failed to mention was that It's only God that gives strength, even at one's young age. Never underestimate the power of your mind; it's the most powerful tool that you've been blessed with by God. Listen to your intuition, It's your most priced asset in times of decision making...Intuition and fear are great enemies..Make use of the former. For intuition, when followed makes you shine. Her great enemy make you a foot rag that others wipe their feet with if you follow it. Never look down on anyone; trust me, I've witnessed how it turns out...A close friend once said to me; "Bimpe, see how you turned out" My response must put a smile on your face; "you're wrong brother, see how God turned me out" Ask for help if you think you need one. It could be a life saver even in the midst of recession. Never judge a man by the size of his pocket; he may be the most foolish man alive...Ahmad Deedat was not wealthy, yet he was the most blessed in wisdom and knowledge. Wealth and fame pursued him pants down until his death. Be kind to people on your way up; you may need them on your way down. For a man that burns down his bridges will fall freely with a bang. Most importantly, live everyday like It's your last in this world; a day past is gone forever. Have fun, give alms if you could, forgive your enemies, for an enemy forgiven is better that a friend that's never pushed your limits; he may be warming up to send you to oblivion. Bottom line: Do your best in all your handlings, be honest and protect your integrity with a sword of humility, pray, and always have a back up plan; for even God's timing sometime comes one (1) year after your expected timing. Having a back up plan doesn't mean you do not trust God, it only means you're making use of God's given wisdom. I hope this lightens your spirit. May the Joy be with you. 6 Likes 6 Shares |

nmreports: Do you know what these guys are calling "silly" question? 1. Do you take alcohol? How often? 2. Have you ever been convicted of a crime? Ever been in crime related case with the police? 3. How do you manage your emotions at the work place? How will you react if one of your team mates did or say something you don't regard as a joke? 4. Are you married? How often do you jump in and out of intimate relationships? The above questions may seem personal, yes! But an interviewer needs to know if you are a random drinker, a criminal, a hot-tempered person who will end up breaking another employee's head, or a guy who will be recruited today and he'll resign tomorrow, thereby keeping the company at "oh-God". A guy who cannot keep a relationship cannot be committed to a job. It may sound funny, but a recent survey has proved it. Let's learn from each other. |

Aniomaman81: Thanks Director. And yes, I've heard your quote and even used it several times. Sometime in the past, I was interviewed for a control room operator position in Lagos. I was interviewed by the HR personnel (HR director, manager and account officer) and the questions asked were actually in-appropriate. I was expecting questions in the area being recruited for and some other personal questions that nairalanders have termed "silly", but the HR guys are sneaky guys, and asked wrong questions. Not a single technical question was put forward and I left thinking I had mistakenly attended the wrong interview. Fast-forward two months, I got a call from the operation & maintenance manager of the same power plant and I was re-interviewed, got the job and moved on. I resumed to learn that the former guy recruited caused a big loss by over-filling the generators with lube oil. Hydro-lock occurred and crankshafts were damaged. About 78 million naira was spent to fix them. All because some HR guys recruited the wrong guy. The whole HR were fired. Please know, that I don't ask silly questions in interviews as you all think. If I happen to be in the team to recruit, I ask one or two technical questions, and few so called "silly" alcohol/drug/emotional based questions. If asking personal question like alcohol, emotional and stressed-based questions are silly, then we are in trouble. Random alcohol/drug test are usually done in standard organizations; mine included and these are standards. Most young guys like myself sees such questions as personal, even though it is not. A company that wants to employ you has the right to know you as a person. Now tell me, would you criticize someone in your team for asking such questions in interviews? Are such question, in your own understanding, silly? Let's learn from each other. |
Jobs/Vacancies / Re: Monster HR Personnels; A Nightmare For Job Seekers. Share Your Experience by Adebimpe1(m): 9:40pm On Nov 09, 2016 |
A Senior HR professional who think asking personal questions are wrong really needs to buckle up. Organizations differ, and questions relating to the job being interviewed for are to be asked, as the case may be. But then, you don't just ask questions relating to the job alone. It is quite advisable to get to know the candidates you're interviewing. No one will ask you about your family problems, how many times you've been with a woman, or other nasty questions. But questions relating to alcohol, drugs, temper-based, psychological, emotional and stress-related questions are often times viewed as personal questions. Most job seekers do not actually understand what personal questions are. A candidates that sees "how often do you take alcohol" questions as being personal and decline to answer, will certainly get drunk to the plant, gets himself killed and put the lives of others at risk. As a professional in the HR, you will not want to recruit someone with anger problems. Most times, candidates lose the chance of getting a well paid job because they refuse to answer certain question. Most candidates even sees "why did you graduate with 2-2 when your mates had 1st class" questions as personal. Not all interviews require job-based questions. As a professional. I only need to ask you two questions that only people very experienced in the field will know. You guys in the HR often ask unrelated questions, and ends up recruiting the wrong guys who ends up destroying the whole job. As for my post, I used the word "silly" to emphasize on it being used by the young man who replied me. The questions that I have mentioned above are seen as "silly" by most Nigerian job seekers. I was like that until I lost several offers. Finally, I represent my company in good light, even though you're fighting hard to believe that. ymx: |

I single handedly recruited my own team, and led a project of $350 million to completion. My own team, that I recruited personally generates more than $5 million monthly for my company and please know, that I asked them "silly" questions during the interview stages. I am a certified Lean Six Sigma Black Belt, a change advocate and process driver (am not sure you know what that means) For you record, there's not more than 20 ASQ certified Black Belts in the whole of Nigeria. So, do you still think I need your training? If you're jobless, email me and I'd arrange an interview for you. Pls, be warned, I will only ask silly questions. Very funny how we all want to be employed but are not willing to answer simple questions. If I had a company and I'm willing to recruit new guys, I certainly will ask questions, regarded as "dumb" by candidates. These "dumb" questions are simply meant to test you psychological limits, how far you can stretch emotionally, and also to see if you've got anything to hide. It is not an offence, neither is it "personal" to ask candidates if he/she takes alcohol, even though the job has nothing to do with alcohol. I wouldn't employ a dirty drinker, or someone who feels relationship questions are personal, and should not be asked in interviews. If I wanted to recruit for a certain position, I will go as far as asking silly questions, to see how the candidate would handle issues in a tight situation, especially if the situation has to do with his/her ego. I will never employ someone who gets angry at the slightest push, thereby making me lose clients and customers. I once attended one interview and the HR guy asked what I was doing in school that I graduated with 2:2 when my mates were breezing past 2:1. Well, I blew it and asked him; "what was your own grade"? and I did lose the Job that would have gotten me 275K monthly as at 2009. Bottom line: Be humble, be patient, answer all questions like your close pally asked you. With that, it will seem normal and they will even love you for being so natural, and the job will be yours. 19 Likes 1 Share |

Bottomline: You are a rare person, usually referred to as "Akanda Eniyan" by the Yorubas. You are destined for great things. I was an average student during my university days and graduated with a 2.2. Most of my friends had the same grades as we were birds of a feather; we basically spent the nights that should be used in classroom at the female hostels and had fun all through, although we tried to study as best as we could. Fast-forward few years, all the efikos with 2.1 and 2.2 were struggling to make ends meet and we (me and my friends in crime) are flying high because the God has special interest in us. A good friend, one that was a course mate once told me; "Tunde, see how you turned out". I simply replied him; "you're wrong, see how God turned me out" Myself and my friends in crime (6 of us) are blessed, not because of grades. we all had 2.2, 3rd class. The lowest anyone of us earn is 1.2 million naira monthly, and this recession does not affect us one bit as we even get promoted. All the 1st class and 2.1 dudes that graduated with us earns around 100-250k Bottom line: Do your best, have a great deal of faith in God and regard Him always, be the best in your field, not in your class.
