A chieftain of the ruling All Progressives Congress in Ondo State, Hon. Adeyeri Stephen has attributed the prevailing tranquility in the Sunshine state to the recent transfer of power to the Deputy Governor, Hon. Lucky Aiyedatiwa, who is now the Acting Governor of the state. Adeyeri rationalized that the barefaced political crisis that took virtually all residents aback, was caused by some “over ambitious political figures” bent on disregarding the constitution. He added that if Aiyedatiwa was not confirmed as the Acting Governor, “some political gladiators would have continued to stoke violence, hence making the peaceful environment to be toxic to all and sundry” The business mogul stated this in a statement titled “The storm is over in ondo because the right thing was done” and issued to newsmen on Friday in Abuja, the nation’s capital. The statement reads, “ In ensuring the tranquility we currently experience in Ondo State, it is essential to recognize the prudent decision taken when faced with the unavailability of the Governor. The transfer of power to the Deputy Governor, Hon. Lucky Aiyedatiwa, stands as a commendable move that has forestalled potential turbulence. It is imperative to note that no one harbors ill wishes for the Governor; rather, the collective hope is for his swift recovery and the restoration of his good health.” “By entrusting the reins of governance to Aiyedatiwa, all uncertainties were effectively laid to rest. Certain over ambitious political figures, eager to sow discord and undermine constitutional order, sought to turn the state into a theater of conflict. Thankfully, the adherence to constitutional provisions thwarted these attempts and maintained the stability of the region as some political gladiators would have continued to stoke violence, hence making the peaceful environment to be toxic to all and sundry” “While harboring the best interests for the state, it becomes paramount to uphold the principles of governance to ensure the continuity of essential activities until the Governor's return. Supporting Aiyedatiwa as the Acting Governor becomes a shared responsibility among the residents, ensuring a seamless transition and the smooth operation of governmental functions.” “Optimism prevails that Akeredolu will make a triumphant return to the state. Let us collectively channel our prayers for his speedy recovery and look forward to his resumption of duties. In the interim, let unity and cooperation prevail among the residents, fostering an environment where the affairs of the state can progress uninterrupted.”

In their determination to derail the Edo Agenda for a Governor of Esan extraction in 2024 being championed by Governor Godwin Obaseki , some aspirants of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Edo state have decided to join forces together. In a meeting held in the Abuja residence of the South South Zonal Chairman of the PDP on Thursday, the aspirants undertook to collapse their ambition and present a common front against the perceived favourite of the Governor, Barr. Asue Ighodalo. Aspirants who attended the meeting included Comrade Philip Shuaibu, Rt. Hon. Ogbeide Ihama and Hon. Felix Akhabue aka Joefel. In the meeting also were Chief Dan Obih, Chief Benjamin Ceaser the State Treasurer, Destiny Oreye the State Youth leader, Barr Nosa Adams, Hon. Johnson Agbolagba, Mrs Lucy Omagbon, Rt. Hon. Frank Okiye, Hon. Jude Imague and Hon. Zuberious Edeoghon. According to an insider, they all agreed that Barr Asue Ighodalo will win the primary if they all go into the field with him. The raising profile and acceptance of Barr Asue Ighodalo's aspiration especially among the leaders of the party and youth populace in Edo State was a major source of worry to them all. Chief Dan Orbih, Comrade Philip Shuaibu, Ogbeide Ihama and Johnson Agbolagba, voiced their opposition to the clamour for the governorship position to be zoned to Edo Central. “It was therefore agreed that they should all collapse their ambition and support Comrade Philip Shuaibu for Governor while Rt. Hon. Ogbeide Ihama will be his deputy. Hon. Felix Akhabue was nominated as the Secretary to the State Government designate. This was agreed to by all those present in the meeting.” “They agreed that Chief Dan Orbih should convince other aspirants who were not in the meeting to key into the arrangement. How this will play out and be acceptable to aspirants like Senator Clifford Ordia, Barr Anslem Ojiezua, Rt. Hon. Marcus Onobun, Amb. Martins and Hon. John Yakubu is yet to be known”, the source said.

Real Estate business is not a new theme to folks around; not even the fact that housing has since endured as Nigeria's perennial worry. As a business form, this vast economic sector has had array of players delved into its ample bosom with diverse outcomes; yet the housing business daily recieve investors with diverse interests and pursuits into its expansive scope. As a sturdy part of the nation's economy and a critical boost for its GDP, various players deal within its orbit, taking different roles as developers, contractors or nonprofit actors. In spite of this, marked shortfall persists within the putatively rich sector and affects the larger part all Nigeria's constituents, leaving each state to fend for its own. Even so, the usual search for originality either deters folks or keeps them dithering as to what choice is best to make about housing. In dealing with this ubiquitous housing dearth, however, Ondo State seems to have found a trump card with the entry of Ever Bright Developers and Real Company to its fold. Operatives of the Tantita Security Services Limited, the Nigerian Army, and the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corp (NSCDC) have arrested a massive vessel in the coastal waters of Ondo state after a shootout with navy operatives. A reliable source has confirmed to Journalists on Friday that the suspected vessel was spotted loading oil from a well head off the coast of Ondo state. According the source, a joint team of soldiers, men of the NSCDC and operatives of Tantita, a private security firm owned by Government Ekpemupolo, known as Tompolo, accosted the vessel which had naval personnel on board. The naval personnel reportedly declined a request by the Nigerian National Petroleum Company (NNPC) Limited that the vessel be moved to its jetty at Oporoza for a joint inspection. According to a source, naval operatives on the vessel refused the request, claiming the navy had arrested the vessel and was transporting it to one of its bases. Naval operatives, the source said, have been shooting all day, resulting in yet another standoff between Tantita and security operatives. According to the source, Tantita operatives who are implementing a pipeline protection contract with the NNPC and the federal government were concerned when the navy operatives persisted in not taking the vessel for joint inspection. The naval operatives were said to have fired shots to ward off the security operatives from accessing the vessel.

*Says 'SDP, PDP peddling falsehood, not focusing on reasons they were rejected' *'Melaye has no confidence in himself, not just Judiciary' The National Working Committee of the All Progressives Congress has said that the Social Democratic Party has a lot of explaining to do as regards the purported attack on the Secretary of the Election Tribunal in Kogi State, which was said to have occurred in "spurious circumstances". Addressing a press conference at the APC National Secretariat, in Abuja, on Thursday, the National Publicity Secretary (NPS) of the party, Felix Morka, said SDP's utterances and actions, prior to, and since the purported occurrence, betrayed "suspicious special knowledge of the incident" and called on security agencies to do a thorough investigation into the alleged incident. The party condemned, as dangerous, the incendiary rhetoric of opposition figures in Kogi State who continued to inflame passion and incite strife, noting that "their actions and utterances provide a charged atmosphere for escalation of violence in the state." It said, rather than carry out comprehensive evaluation of the reasons they were rejected at the polls, the SDP and PDP had continued to peddle falsehood and promote ethnic and social unrest in the state. It noted that Ajaka made a U-turn, having initially said he would not contest the outcome of the election, and then decided to bring a petition before the tribunal even though "it appears that he is out of time to validly do so." The APC said, "On his part, the candidate of the SDP, Murtala Ajaka, stated, on national television, that he would not challenge the election, for reasons similar to that advanced by his opposition counterpart, Dino, that has no confidence in the judiciary, especially as INEC will be a potential witness in the case to justify the outcome of the election. "In a sudden U-turn, Ajaka, is now reported to have changed his mind and now intends to bring a petition before the Election Petitions Tribunal, even though, it appears that he is out time to validly do so. However, we will leave that for determination by the courts." The party noted that the SDP and the Peoples Democratic Party had been severally conflicted between accepting or challenging the result of the election. "We participated in the Kogi election, our candidate campaigned widely and vigorously to win the hearts and minds of the good Kogi electorate. He built upon the strong record of achievement of Governor Yahaya Bello’s administration and our Party’s progressive manifesto," APC stressed. The NPS said, aside from Dino having no confidence in the Judiciary as he said publicly, "it is worth noting, that Mr. Melaye did not also have the confidence to vote for himself during an election in which he was candidate of a major opposition party. So, we must accept that Dino is very equitable in his 'lack of confidence', and, indeed, lacking confidence in himself. "This lack of confidence in himself also explains his loud but empty call for opposition parties to boycott future elections, in his twisted thinking, so APC may appear to have enacted a one-party state. The fact remains that Dino did not go to court because he has absolutely nothing to stand on by way of evidence, other than his vituperations in the media space," the party added. It said: "Dino should know that participating in an election is a democratic right. Boycotting an election is also a democratic right. Dino is free to choose his democratic right but we hope he chooses wisely. "That he chose not to vote for himself in the Kogi gubernatorial election did not stop the election process from going ahead in accordance with the Constitution. He cannot stop our democratic train from leaving the station or going on course of its journey to consolidation. He cannot hold back participation by the wonderful people of Kogi state by his infantile outbursts and irrational and vain charges against the APC, INEC and our judiciary." The party reiterated that it actively participated in the November 11 elections, having fielded candidates in the respective states, won in Imo and Kogi, but lost Bayelsa as declared by the Independent National Electoral Commission. "Despite substantial compliance with electoral laws and the Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria in the conduct of the elections, the post-election situation in Kogi has been bedeviled by contrived controversies and orchestrated violence that now threaten the peace and security of the good state of Kogi," it said. The APC NWC pointed out that, prior to Monday’s incident involving the Tribunal’s Secretary, the residence of the INEC Resident Electoral Commissioner, Dr. Gabriel Hale Longpet, was also attacked on Friday, December 1, 2023 by armed hoodlums. "These and other acts of violence in Kogi State are barbaric, undemocratic and unacceptable. The people of Kogi State deserve to live in peace and security. These sponsored and senseless acts of violence must stop. "We note and welcome the statement by the Kogi Police Command of an ongoing investigation of the alleged attack on the Secretary to the Election Tribunal and the Resident Electoral Commissioner. We urge the Police to do so thoroughly and expeditiously, and to bring the perpetrators and their sponsors to justice," it stated.

By: Barr. Seun Adeojo In recent times, the Nigerian landscape has witnessed a surge in individuals making the life-altering decision to sell their properties in pursuit of opportunities abroad. While the allure of a better life on foreign shores is enticing, it is imperative to dissect the multifaceted challenges and potential pitfalls that often accompany such decisions. In the light of the foregoing, the exodus migration socially known as Japa, may continue to exist if those desperate about travelling fail to understand why it is inconsequential to leave better offers for the superficial luring offers. This article aims to provide an in-depth exploration of why Nigerians should exercise caution before parting ways with their properties in the quest for a new life abroad. Firstly, the journey of selling one's property often begins with promises of a utopian life overseas. However, the stark reality is that many fall prey to unscrupulous agents and fraudulent schemes that dangle the carrot of prosperity. Delving into specific instances of deceit and exploring the psychological vulnerabilities that make individuals susceptible to such scams is essential in understanding the gravity of this issue. Again, a significant number of Nigerians, having sacrificed their homes for the dream of a better life abroad, find themselves grappling with the harsh truth of dreary and low-paying jobs. This section will explore firsthand accounts of individuals who have faced the stark contrast between the promised opportunities and the challenging, often exploitative, job market they encounter upon arrival in a foreign land. Floodgate of tales have indicated that many Nigerians earning well from their jobs had ended up in rue after tendering their resignation letters for jobs in abroad. The jobs offered to them are not only dreary ones but somewhat denigrating. Infact, many had disclosed to journalists that jobs in the western world are no more lucrative as been presented by the employers. But beyond the economic challenges, there exists the formidable hurdle of cultural adjustment. The complexities of adapting to a new country, with its distinct customs, languages, and social norms, cannot be overstated. Lack of preparedness for customs had engendered emotional toll for some because they had sold their properties to travel abroad,. Embarking on a journey to a foreign land comes with a myriad of financial challenges. From visa fees to accommodation costs and unexpected expenses, individuals who have parted with their properties may find themselves navigating a financial labyrinth. Sadly, some Nigerians in abroad are lamenting the abysmal steps they took. The usual practice is that people do not only sell properties, they borrow lump sum to foot travelling expenses while same amount could be use to set up a very lucrative business in Nigeria. The dream of a better life can turn into a nightmare of debt and instability. The ripple effect of selling properties to travel abroad extends beyond the individual to their families and communities. The disruption of familial dynamics and the strain on community ties cannot be ignored. Conclusively, in the grand tapestry of life-altering decisions, the choice to sell one's property to travel abroad is a monumental thread. This comprehensive exploration underscores the importance of informed decision-making, urging Nigerians to weigh the potential risks against their aspirations. Striking a delicate balance between ambition and prudence is paramount to ensuring a secure and fulfilling journey abroad, free from the entanglements of scams and unanticipated challenges.

The Kogi State Police Command has urged the general public to refrain from statement that “may prejudice ongoing investigation into” the alleged attack on the Tribunal Secretary, David Mike. The Spokesperson for the Command, SP Williams Ovye Aya, made this known in a statement on Wednesday in Lokoja, the state capital. The statement reads, “On Monday 04/12/2023 about 1820hrs, one Mr David Umar Mike 'm', Secretary to Kogi State Governorship Election Petition Tribunal, along with Labode Apreala (f) Confidential Secretary and Hassimu Adamu, Assistant Secretary, came to State Criminal Investigation Department, Kogi State Police Headquarters and reported that on the said date, the three of them left their Hotel rooms in Lokoja about 1300hrs heading to their Office at the High Court Complex driving in his (David’s) Peugeot 406 car.” “That just before the CBN at about 1320hrs, one SUV vehicle which had earlier overtaken him blocked his car with two other SUVs following behind.” “All of them surrounded and blocked him as he attempted to reverse. That he saw about seven hooded men all heavily armed and dressed in black attire who shot severally into the air and dragged him and his two other colleagues out of their car, ransacked the car and made away with all the documents including Petitions filed by four (4) Parties namely Action Alliance (AA), Action People’s Party (APP), Peoples Redemption Party (PRP) and Social Democratic Party (SDP)/two (2) Record Books/a Bag containing his personal items.” “He claimed to have also reported to the DSS Office. The Kogi State All Progressives Congress Campaign Council (KSAPCCC) has called on President Bola Ahmed and the Department of State Services (DSS) to apprehend criminals terrorizing the state. Kingsley Femi Fanwo, Spokesperson/Director of Media and Publicity of the council made the call in response to an alleged attack on the Secretary of the Tribunal, Mike David. Fanwo in a statement said, “Our attention has been drawn to desperate moves by the Social Democratic Party in Kogi State and ethnic jingoists to paint the state unsafe by orchestrating supposed attacks on the Secretary of the Tribunal, Mr. Mike David, to cover up their already exposed plans of filing petition against the November 11 election outside the period allowed under the Electoral Act.” “Recall that some patriotic lawyers, from across the three senatorial districts of the state, had, in the early hours of Monday, alerted the public to the clandestine plan of the SDP and its Governorship candidate to file their petition through the backdoor and backdate same in order to circumvent the provisions of the Electoral Act.” “It is not hard for the discerning to see through the concocted lies and warped strategy of the SDP, as the purpoted attack on the Tribunal Secretary was said to have occurred on the day their dubious, anti-democratic plan was exposed. Why was he not attacked before the midnight of December 3, 2023, when the 21 days window closed? Why is the SDP the first to know about the purported attack? How did they know that he was working on their so called petition at the time he was allegedly attacked? Why has the SDP turned themselves to the advocate for the Secretary? The public cannot be misled. The people know exactly what is happening.” “We have called endlessly on the security agencies in the state to act on series of petitions before them against the criminalities being perpetrated by the SDP and its thugs all in the name of politics. They commit heinous crimes, kill innocent citizens, heighten tension in the state with hate speeches under a rejected ethnic agenda and turn around to play the victims through senseless propaganda. They even blatantly accuse the security agencies of committing crimes without any arrests being made.” “The inaction of the security agencies in the face of glaring atrocities being perpetrated by these desperate politicians and ethnic jingoists has further emboldened their thugs to attack the residence of the Resident Electoral Commissioner in charge of Kogi State, something that has never happened in the history of our dear state. And now, they and their collaborators in crime have conjured a "dead on arrival" script on the attack of the Tribunal Secretary.” “As we write, the lawyer, who led others to expose the SDP's backdoor filing plans, in collaboration with some staff of the Tribunal, is being threatened by the SDP camp, even on public platforms, and this complaint is before the security agencies. When SDP threatens, they attack. That was how they threatened the Resident Electoral Commissioner and followed up their threats with a gruesome attack on his residence. Those who act within the precinct of the rule of law must be protected by the law.” “We await the reports of the security agencies on the true situation of things and once again call on our President, President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, to direct the Department of State Services and the Police to leave no stone unturned in apprehending the criminals terrorising the state and waging fruitless war against democracy. The Governor of the state, Alhaji Yahaya Bello, CON, laid a solid foundation in terms of security. Criminals had no hiding place in the state for over seven years. We cannot at this point sacrifice these widely acknowledged wins on the slab of politics.”

The Kogi State All Progressives Congress Governorship Campaign Council has called on the Police, Department of State Services and other security agencies to immediately curb what it described as the slide to anarchy in the state. The Council called for the arrest the Governorship candidate of the Social Democratic Party, Muritala Yakubu Ajaka, and his supporters who allegedly masterminded the attack on the residence of the Resident Electoral Commissioner in the state in the early hours of Friday. The APC Campaign Council said the attack was perpetrated days after it alerted the nation of the plans of SDP thugs to attack INEC, adding that "they have finally done their worst by attacking the residence of the Kogi State INEC Commissioner, engaging security agents in a fierce gun battle and eventually burning down some vehicles in the residence and in the area." The Director of Media and Publicity/Spokesperson for the Campaign Council, Kingsley Fanwo, who spoke at an emergency press briefing on Friday, said, "The same arsonists also had an attempt to burn down the Kogi State Government House foiled by our eagle-eye security agents. The same attempt was foiled at the State APC Secretariat in Lokoja." According to the APC, the SDP in the state and their collaborators are desperate to destroy some documents in INEC to cover the heist they committed in Kogi East where they allegedly killed APC supporters "and drove them out of collation centres to forge the results that were eventually trumped by the massive votes of Kogites for the Governor-Elect." The Campaign Council alleged that the SDP candidate and his collaborators were attempting to corrupt certain documents in INEC before handing them to their legal team. "We have no problem allowing legal teams to access documents and materials. It is the norm. But we won't allow any desperate blood thirsty politician tamper with the true verdict of the Kogi people," Fanwo declared. He noted that "the bold-face criminality being perpetrated by the defeated SDP candidate and his violent gang of criminals was as a result of the lack of consequences over the gruesome killing of an APC supporter, Khadijat, at Kotonkarfe by agents of the SDP," adding that they had imported thugs from neighbouring states into Kogi. "They shamelessly came out to say Khadijat was bearing an arm. Till date, Muritala Yakubu Ajaka and his gun welding killers have been moving freely on the streets. If they had been arrested for killing an innocent woman, they wouldn't have had the gut to attempt to attack the Kogi Resident Electoral Commissioner," he stressed. The Campaign Spokesperson stated, "We also told the world of plans by the SDP to burn down the INEC Office in Lokoja. We thank the Police and other security agencies for protecting the INEC Office. Frustrated by the watertight security around INEC, the gun throttling SDP criminals went to the residence of the Kogi State INEC Commissioner in an attempt to kill him. They were engaged in a fierce gun battle and they resorted to burning vehicles and other valuables around the area. "The reason they are desperate to destroy some documents in INEC is to cover the heist they committed in Kogi East where they killed APC supporters and drove them out of collation centres to forge the results that were eventually trumped by the massive votes of Kogites for the Governor-Elect. They are attempting to corrupt certain documents in INEC before handing them to their legal team. We have no problem allowing legal teams to access documents and materials. It is the norm. But we won't allow any desperate blood thirsty politician tamper with the true verdict of the Kogi people. "After their violent protests a few days ago, our people have also moved to Lokoja to ensure their mandate is protected. Resorting to assassination and arson will never help the Social Democratic Party and their confused candidate. "Now is the time to arrest Muritala Yakubu Ajaka before he throws Kogi into a state of anomie. Democracy is the expression of the wishes of the people. Those wishes have been expressed and no amount of bullets can silence the voice of the ballot. We are calling on the Police, DSS and other security agencies to immediately arrest the slide to anarchy by arresting Muritala Yakubu Ajaka and his co-swimmers in the pool of violence. We have cautioned our supporters to remain calm and the call will be more effective if the anarchists are immediately apprehended and prosecuted. "The violence witnessed in Kogi East because of the desperation of Muritala Yakubu Ajaka was not witnessed in the West and Central. He turned himself to an outlaw, attacking the opposition, killing opposition members and boasting to go free because of his mouthed connection with certain powerful people. Kogi must not be allowed to become a lawless place and the only solution now is to use Muritala Yakubu Ajaka as a Scape goat. He was not the only one who contested the election. But he is the only one who feels he must kill everything and everyone standing on his path to his irredeemable dream of grabbing power by force. Totalitarianism has no place in a democratic setting. "Gentlemen of the press, we will continue to preach peace and harmony. Kogi is our project and we will keep the flag flying."

Each year, on the 17th of November, World Prematurity Day is observed to raise awareness about the challenges faced by preterm babies and their families worldwide. The theme for this year’s World Prematurity Day is “Small Actions, BIG IMPACT.” It underscores the significance of every small step we take to improve the care and support of premature babies and their families. Today, I celebrate the resilience and strength of families raising preterm babies and to extend an arm of hope, love, empathy, and support to them. Babies born too soon face numerous challenges in many aspects of life while growing up and require special assistance to help them grow safely. Premature birth is defined as a birth that occurs before 37 weeks of pregnancy; it is a global concern. It affects millions of families and has significant implications for the health and well-being of new-borns. In many cases, the causes of premature birth are complex and not entirely understood, making prevention a challenging task. However, the care and support provided to premature babies and their families can make a world of difference. According to the World Health Organization, an estimated 15 million babies are born preterm each year, accounting for about one in 10 of all births worldwide. The National Institute of Health recorded that preterm babies accounts for 40 – 60% of all perinatal deaths in Nigeria, 11 by gestational age. 5.2% of preterm births occur at less than 28weeks gestation (extremely preterm), 10.4% at 28-<32 weeks (very preterm) and 85.3% at 32 – 36 weeks (moderate – late preterm). Preterm delivery could be spontaneous or induced. Clinical and socio-demographic variables which are usually not apparent have been associated with spontaneous preterm delivery. Preterm neonates are more likely to have difficulty with feeding, blood glucose control, jaundice, temperature instability, apnoea, respiratory distress, sepsis, wide spectrum of neuro-developmental disabilities, as well as growth and health problems either singly or in combination compared to neonates delivered at term. Consequent upon these complications, the birth of a preterm neonate can bring with it considerable emotional and economic costs to families with its attendant implications for public-sector services. The survival of preterm infants is a function of both their biological maturity and technological advancement in any given setting. While technological advancement has continued to show marked improvement in developed countries with increasing survival of extremely preterm babies, the same cannot be said of the developing countries. especially in Africa, –particularly Nigeria, where there is poor health infrastructure, poverty, mass illiteracy, gross gender inequality, numerous conflicts, and a lack of equipment, manpower, and support services necessary to float a functioning neonatal intensive care service. In light of this, the plausible way of reducing the burden of preterm birth in our health sector is by reducing its incidence, starting with a proper understanding of the factors associated with these births. An urgent improvement in prenatal and newborn care is therefore needed in the study centre to improve the capacity to prevent or abate preterm labour, and preterm premature rupture of membranes, and to reduce avoidable stillbirths. Further upgrading of personnel and facilities in the newborn special care unit is also required to minimize early neonatal deaths. The onus therefore lies on us all to start making conscious efforts in the little ways we can, to curb this issue as much as possible. Small Actions, BIG IMPACT: As healthcare practitioners, I urge us all today to continually through our care to give hope to babies born too soon and their families as our actions goes a long way in creating a big impact for the newborns. The small actions that create a big impact are as follows: 1. Kangaroo Care: One of the simplest yet most effective interventions for premature babies is Kangaroo Care. This method involves skin-to-skin contact between the baby and the parent, typically the mother but when the mother is not available the father can suffice. It helps regulate the baby’s temperature, heart rate, and breathing, and promotes bonding. 2. Breast Milk: Providing premature babies with breast milk, even in small amounts, can have a significant impact on their health and development. It helps protect them from infections and provides essential nutrients. 3. Immediate care at birth: There is a significant advantage in the survival of premature babies depending on the immediate care rendered at birth and during the first few days of life especially preterm with breathing difficulties. This helps to prevent mortality and lifetime neurological impairment. Immediate care includes mechanical ventilation, Continuous positive airway pressure (CPAP), temperature regulation, blood sugar control and medicine such as caffeine citrate, surfactant etc. 4. Infection control measures: Hospital- acquired (nosocomial) infection is primarily a problem for premature infants requiring prolonged hospitalization, the lower the birth weight, the higher the risk of infection. Therefore active monitoring and adherence to infection control measures is essential e.g. Hand hygiene, sterilisation and disinfection of equipment, NICU protocol PPE (cap, facemask, gown and footwear), infection surveillance and antibiotics. 5. Supportive Environment: Creating a nurturing and supportive environment in neonatal intensive care units (NICUs) is crucial. Simple gestures like soft lighting, quiet surroundings, and gentle handling can reduce stress and improve the baby’s development. 6. Parental Involvement: Engaging parents in the care of their premature babies is vital. Parents can learn to feed, change diapers, and comfort their babies, playing an active role in their child’s care. 7. Follow-up / home Care: The health care team may let baby go home if certain requirements are met e.g., free from major health problem, can breathe without support, has stable body temperature and is gaining weight overtime. Parents are taught how to care for baby at home and precautionary measures to prevent re- hospitalisation. 8. Education and Awareness: Raising awareness about premature birth and the challenges it poses is a small action with a big impact. It helps reduce stigma, encourages early prenatal care, and fosters community support. 9. Research and Innovation: Scientific research and innovations in neonatal care have led to remarkable improvements in the survival and long-term outcomes of premature babies. The Role of Communities: Communities play a vital role in supporting families with premature babies. Neighbours, friends, and extended family can provide emotional support, offer assistance with daily tasks, and help create a network of care around the family. Advocacy for Change: On World Prematurity Day, advocacy for policy changes and increased funding for neonatal care is essential. Small actions like providing insurance scheme, signing petitions, contacting legislators, or supporting organizations focused on premature birth can collectively lead to significant change in how we address this global health issue. Conclusion: Every small action taken to improve the care and support of premature babies and their families can have a big impact. World Prematurity Day reminds us that together, we can make a difference in the lives of these vulnerable new-borns and their families. From Kangaroo Care to community support, education, and advocacy, every action counts in the effort to ensure that premature babies have the best possible start in life. So, this World Prematurity Day, let’s celebrate the small actions that have a BIG IMPACT and recommit to supporting premature babies and their families in health and happiness.

. Accuse authorities of keeping quiet because victim wasn't from influential family . Call on President Tinubu to intervene, get justice for slain woman . Ask security agents to immediately arrest, prosecute all those associated with gruesome murder Scores of women activists from across Nigeria converged on Abuja on Tuesday, demanding justice for a lady who was allegedly killed by thugs said to be working for the Governorship Candidate of the Social Democratic Party in Kogi State, Muritala Yakubu. The Activists, who represent different women groups under one umbrella, said their protest became necessary because it appeared that the gruesome killing of Khadijat Yahaya, an All Progressives Congress' supporter, in the Kotonkarfe area of Kogi State about two months ago, might have been swept under the carpet allegedly because she was not from an influential family. Co-convener, Women Standing Together, Barr. Pereagbe Enagonimi Ekpede, who addressed the press after the protest, said after about two months of the sad incident, Khadijat's killers were still walking the streets free, while nothing had been said about police investigation into the matter or arrests of culprits. The women, who said an injury to a woman was an injury to them all, appealed to President Bola Tinubu and the Inspector-General of Police, Kayode Egbetokun, to intervene directly to get justice for the late Khadijat. "Justice to us means her killer being arrested, prosecuted and sentenced accordingly. All those associated with her killer, no matter how highly placed, should be brought in for questioning with a view to getting the main culprits arrested," the activists said. They held placards with various inscriptions such as "arrest Khadijat's killers now", Khadijat's killers still walking free, Police must act now", Khadijat cannot be wasted just like that", and "women's lives matter: justice for Khadijat", among others. Addressing the press, the Co-convener said, "Fellow Nigerian women and members of the Press, with pain in my heart I welcome you all to this peaceful protest to rally support for our dear sister, late Khadijat Yahaya, who was murdered cold-blood about two months ago by political miscreants in Kogi State. "An injury to any one woman anywhere in this country is an injury to all of us because we don't know who the next victim may be. Therefore, we must stand for one another irrespective of tribe, religion or political affiliation. That is why we are Women Standing Together. We have been fighting for women's rights for almost two decades and we will continue to get stronger doing that. "This protest has become necessary due to the fact that about two months after this innocent poor lady was gunned down by armed thugs allegedly/suspected to be thugs in the convoy of the Kogi State SDP candidate, Mr. Muritala Ajaka, those who killed this lady are still walking the streets free as if it's just a goat that has been killed. "We cannot have a society where anybody can just take the life of another without consequences. I am a lawyer and activist of many years' standing. We have laws against assault and murder with clear consequences prescribed for those crimes in our statute books. "We have laws even against domestic violence. The time has long passed that women should be suffering and dying in silence. We have laws protecting us. But we must come together to ensure that we continue to protect one another and fight for one another. We are the mothers of the nation. We deserve to be respected, protected and honored. "What is more infuriating is to learn that after this ugly incident, the Kogi State Police Command issued a statement saying that they invited Mr Ajaka but till date he hasn't honored Police invitation to address this issue and Police authorities don't feel the need to do anything about it simply because of political correctedness. "We understand that, being a campaign season, the Police may not want to take an action that might be deemed political, but when human life is involved, political correctedness should take a secondary position. "Late journalism guru, Mr. Dele Giwa, wrote that one life taken unjustly is the same as a million lives taken in a pogrom. We agree with that submission and hereby appeal to the Inspector-General of Police, Mr. Kayode Egbetokun, to intervene directly to get justice for our murdered sister. "Justice to us means her killer being arrested, prosecuted and sentenced accordingly. All those associated with her killer, no matter how highly placed, should be brought in for questioning with a view to getting the main culprits arrested. "We want to make it clear and loud that we will not stop until justice is served on this matter. Khadijat was a Nigerian. She had three little children. She cannot be allowed to be killed anyhow without anyone paying for the crime. What would have happened if she were to be the daughter of an influential Nigerian? By now, some suspects would have been arrested and arraigned. "Come to think of it, we are talking about human life that once taken cannot be replaced nor repaired. "We call on President Bola Ahmed Tinubu as a father and grandfather to weigh in on this matter and help us get justice for Khadijat. Women lives matter!"

. Calls on INEC to take constitutional action against candidates fanning ethnic division, stoking violence The Forum of Former Members of the Kogi State House of Assembly has unanimously declared its support for the governorship candidate of the ruling All Progressives Congress, Usman Ododo, ahead of the November 11 election in the state. The Forum, which comprises the entire past lawmakers in the state from 1999, across political parties, also resolved to go back to their different communities to ensure resounding victory for the APC candidate. The lawmakers, who said their decision to support Ododo followed a painstaking assessment of all the candidates on the field and the need to save the state from being dragged back to the old days of ethnocentric politics and violence, spoke at a press conference in Lokoja on Thursday. The Chairman, Forum of Former Members of the Kogi State House of Assembly, Alhassan Salisu Adakeke, who addressed the press, with other members in attendance, pointed out that Kogi was too central to Nigeria to be left in the hands of candidates "who are out to disunite the state" and truncate the widely acknowledged achievements of the current administration. While calling on the Independent National Electoral Commission to "immediately activate relevant sections of the Electoral Law against candidates fanning ethnic division and stoking atomic politics," the former Assembly members said, "Kogi State has remained very peaceful since the advent of the GYB (Governor Yahaya Bello) administration and cannot afford to lose it now to desperate politicians dropping names after disrespecting the same names. Their only hope is violence. "We hereby unanimously declare the support of former legislators to the candidacy of the Governorship candidate of the All Progressives Congress, Ahmed Usman Ododo. Our members are resolved to work hard throughout the state to deliver him resoundingly on November 11, 2023. We have no doubt that we will celebrate our victory and the future of our dear state will be guaranteed. "It is our desire that the revolution currently ongoing in education, health, agriculture, youth and women empowerment as well as infrastructure will continue when we elect the man who understands the development wand of the current administration. We are for consolidation. We are for continuity. We are for Ododo. We are for a united and prosperous Kogi State." On how they arrived at the choice of Ododo and subsequently threw their weights behind him, the former legislators explained that they took their time to examine the candidates in the contest and took their decision after series of meetings, consultations and engagements with their members across the state. "On the forthcoming Governorship poll in the state, our forum has resolved to support the candidate of the All Progressives Congress for the fact that he is a product of a system that has put Kogi on the map of development. Among the candidates jostling for the number one seat, he is the most qualified, the most experienced, the most prepared and the best man for the job. Apart from his message of consolidation and continuity, Hon. Ahmed Usman Ododo possesses character traits of a great leader. He is accessible, humble, brilliant and devoid of the negative drama that have dotted the histories of his competitors," they stated. According to them, the incumbent administration of Governor Yahaya Bello has built ensuring legacies of development, unity and progress in the state through his equitable distribution of landmark projects and poverty-reduction policies "that have distinguished him as the best Governor to have ever led Kogi." "We cannot afford to elect a mediocre into Lugard House," they stressed. The lawmakers stated, "As former lawmakers, we are proud of the symbiotic relationship between the two Assemblies that worked with Governor Yahaya Bello. A good number of Laws were passed that have helped to provoke development in our dear state. The Local Government Audit Law was excellently implemented by the former Auditor General for Local Government and now the candidate of the APC, Hon. Ahmed Usman Ododo. For those of us who understand statecraft, we saw how the implementation was able to improve transparency and accountability in that tier of government. Ahmed Usman Ododo is greatly equipped to press the pedals of development forward when he succeeds our hugely successful Governor. "The difference between us and the usurpers, who caved in to the naira power of ethnic jingoists is that we cut across the state. This is one of the gains of the Yahaya Bello Administration. We no longer pander to the flames of ethnicity, but to the bunch of unity that we have become as a people and as a state. "Apart from the capacity, competence, capability, brilliance and readiness of Ahmed Usman Ododo for the task ahead, it is also pertinent to note that the Ajaokuta Steel resurgence is at the centre of the economic recovery plan of the Tinubu Presidency. "Our state supported the election of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and will continue to support him to succeed. We cannot afford to elect a mediocre into Lugard House who will be opposed to the economic plan that will make Nigeria a true giant of Africa."

. Describes issues raised in Adeyemi's brief as unreasonable, vexatious, not triable . Condemns TV utterances while case was in court The Supreme Court, on Monday, finally dismissed an appeal filed by Senator Smart Adeyemi against the judgements of the two lower courts on the All Progressives Congress' primary election, which held in Kogi State on April 15, 2023. The Supreme Court, in a unanimous judgement, held that the appeal lacked merit, having failed to challenge the concurrent findings of both the High and Appeal Courts, or demonstrate that same were perverse. The Apex Court also held that the two issues raised in the Appellant's brief were unreasonable, vexatious, not triable and against the provisions of Section 132 and 133(1) of the Evidence Act 2011. Adeyemi, who represented Kogi West Senatorial District in the 9th Assembly, had filed a suit at the Federal High Court seeking to nullify the primary election of the APC, which produced Usman Ododo as the party’s flagbearer for the state’s governorship election slated for November 11. The case was dismissed by both the Federal High Court and the Court of Appeal for lacking in merit. The apex court, while delivering judgment on Monday, first struck out the Appellant's first notice of Appeal, the Appellant having relied on the 2nd Notice of Appeal filed and held that the power of the Apex Court in respect of appeals against concurrent findings of the two lower Courts could only be exercised when the findings were alleged to be perverse. The Court also described as contemptuous, the practice of parties appearing on TV stations to discuss pending appeals, saying, "You go saying on television that if the court is a court of justice, the appeal should go in your favour." "The court frowns at this practice. Once you've engaged a lawyer, go and rest. I am giving this elaborate talk so that you don't go out and say things that are not reasonable. The Court is manned by reasonable persons," Justice E. A Agim, who delivered the Supreme Court’s Judgement, said. The Apex Court said, "There is nothing on the Notice of Appeal of the Appellant showing a challenge as to the perverseness of the findings of the two lower courts. "The Appellant never alleged that there was no evidence to support the findings of the two lower Courts. This Court has no power to revisit those issues of facts raised in the Notice of Appeal unless there is an allegation that the findings were perverse." "On the whole, this appeal fails. The Appellant shall pay the cost of N1 million each to the 1st and 3rd Respondents (the governorship candidate and the APC)," the Supreme Court ruled. Dapo Otitoju represented the Appellant; Abdulwahab Muhammed, SAN, represented the APC, Umar Abdulhamid represented the 2nd Respondent, and M. Y Abdullahi, SAN, the 3rd Respondent. The Court of Appeal had, on August 18, 2023, held that the appeal argued by Adekunle Oladapo Otitoju on behalf of Senator Adeyemi was completely bereft of merit. In a unanimous judgment of a 3-man panel of Justices of the Court, Adeyemi was said to have failed woefully to establish all grievous criminal allegations made against the conduct of the primary election by APC and its leaders. Justice Mohammed Lawal Shuaib who delivered the lead judgment resolved all the three issues in dispute against Adeyemi. Justice Shuaib said that the allegations of manipulations and falsifications of the primary election results made by Adeyemi, being criminal in nature, ought to have been proved beyond reasonable doubt as required by law. He also dismissed another allegation by the Appellant that he was denied fair hearing by the Appeal Committee of the APC based on his petition against the alleged unlawful conduct of the primary election. Justice Shuaib said that the issue of denial of fair hearing was not raised in his originating summons at the Federal High Court, hence, could not be raised as a fresh issue at the Court of Appeal. In the absence of cogent and verifiable evidence on the part of Adeyemi, the Court of Appeal held that his allegations remained mere assertions that could not enjoy any probative value. The Court of Appeal upheld the judgment of Justice James Omotosho of the Federal High Court in Abuja delivered on July 12, which had held that Adeyemi did not prove his allegations that Ododo was not lawfully nominated by the APC. Senator Adeyemi had, therefore, sought an order of the Supreme Court, setting aside the judgments of the lower courts, allowing his appeal and granting all the reliefs sought in his originating summons.

We cannot afford to do otherwise in the forthcoming election. "Governor Bello has laid a solid foundation in infrastructure, human capital development across the State. His achievements have done the major part of the election. Let's all join hands in ensuring collective victory for the APC," Echocho said. In his speech, Governor Yahaya Bello cautioned the people against ethnicity, stressing that tribal politics had no place in this time and age. "Ethnic politics is selfish interest. Igala agenda is about job creation, development, prosperity. Don't be deceived. The APC will win landslide. Victory will be ours at the election. Alhaji Usman Ahmed Ododo is a refined gentleman with cognate experience in public service and in politics. "On assumption of office, we met a state divided along ethnic and other fault lines. We have been able to cement all those fault lines. Today, issues of ethnicity have been buried. Fairness, equity, justice have replaced mediocrity, ethnicity. "We have raised youths and women across board. We have built and distributed projects, infrastructure and empowerment across board. So much has been achieved in the State and we cannot afford to go back to our dark days," the Governor said. Addressing the unprecedented crowd, the APC Governorship Candidate, Ododo, said his aspiration was about the people, progress and unity of the State. "Let me appeal to the people of Kogi East. Let's build a united and stronger Kogi State which we all can be proud of. Let this election be about our people, development, unity and prosperity. It is my fervent appeal that I'm ready to be a servant leader with no barrier," he said. The APC Governorship Candidate thanked Governor Bello for his outstanding achievements and promised to build on the legacies. While telling Igala people that it would be counter-productive to play ethnic and minority politics, he specifically thanked President Tinubu for his outstanding leadership and commitment to the growth and development of Kogi State and Nigeria at large. Highlights of the rally was the official welcoming of decampees from the PDP, SDP and other political parties to the APC.
