PoliticsAlleged Abduction Of Witnesses Fake News - Kogi APC by Adeboye80(op): 5:34pm On Feb 28, 2024
...urges security agencies to investigate, prosecute persons found culpable

The attention of the Kogi State Chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC) has been drawn to allegations making the rounds on social media of an alleged abduction of the Witnesses of Action Alliance by persons suspected to be APC Supporters within the premises of the National Judicial Institute (NJI) where the Kogi State Governorship  Election Tribunal is currently sitting.

While it is reported that the said witnesses were abducted within the NJI premises, some other reports stated that it was outside the premises. While some reports alleged that the said witnesses have been released by their abductors, some reports alleged that they are still in the custody of their alleged abductors.

The APC Kogi State Chapter categorically refutes the mischievous allegation that any of its supporters abducted witnesses of the Action Alliance political party or even had any altercation with any witness.

The party views the allegations which are totally false to have originated from mischief makers who are out to tarnish the image of the party and whip up sentiments with the ulterior motive of prejudicing the mind of the tribunal and the public against the APC.

Indeed, the Chairman of the Kogi State Chapter of our party was in Court on the said 26th February, 2024 and he did not witness any such incidences but was only informed of a fracas which occurred between persons who were outside the tribunal complex.

The All Progressives Congress condemns the attribution of the alleged abduction to the supporters of the APC and calls on law enforcement agencies to investigate the incidence and prosecute any persons found to have committed such alleged acts.

Signed:
Abdullahi Bello

PoliticsDon’t Marginalize Ikale Like Akeredolu, Ikale Youths Write Aiyedatiwa by Adeboye80(op): 9:46pm On Feb 25, 2024
Some youths under the aegis of Concerned Ikale Youths (CIY) have flayed the former Governor of Ondo state, late Arakunrin Oluwarotimi Akeredolu, for allegedly marginalizing communities subsumed under Ikale in the Southern Senatorial district of the state.

To this end, the unhappy youths, in a statement on Friday, jointly signed by the President, Egbuwalo Olumide and Secretary, Omosaye Aiyenitaju, urged Aiyedatiwa to eshew the footsteps of his late predecessor, Akeredolu, who they said personalised Ikale heritage for his kinsmen in Owo.

The statement reads, “Ayedatiwa should not marginalize Ikale people like his principal, the late Akeredolu. Governor Ayedatiwa must not follow the footsteps of his principal who personalised Ikale heritage for his kinsmen in Owo.

“Ikale has two main functional economic heritages: Okitipupa Oil Palm and Forest Reserves. History will never be kind to Akeredolu for mismanaging the resources of Okitipupa Oil Palm PLC and turning it to his family’s business, and for selling Ikale forest without considering the interests of our people and their farm produce that worth billions of naira.

“Many people died from the shock because they no longer have anything to fall back upon.

“The act of selling Igbotako-Omotosho/Big-road and Ode-Aye farmland and protecting Owo farmland is an economic sabotage to the Ikale race. Your excellency should know that Alex Ajipe’s claim of bringing investors to our land is grossly fabricated, the statement partly said.

They also advised governor Aiyedatiwa to crosscheck government files to confirm Ajipe’s alleged lies of bringing Weewood Company to Ondo South.

“The governor should investigate Alex Ajipe’s many lies of bringing Weewood Company, and invite professionals from Natural Resources to find out the quantum of damages done by him. He’s now scheming to pad his lean account to prosecute his failed Senatorial Ambition.

“It should be noted that WEWOOD and ZOYANG were established during the government of Dr. Olusegun Miniko when Alex Ajipe was an allottee in the forestry while relating and trading with WEWOOD.

“His consultancy with the Ondo state government during Akeredolu’s tenure was fact-checked to be for Owo boys and his family alone.

“We are ready to support your excellency ahead of this coming election, but we will not allow Ajipe and his Owo boys to continue to milk our natural resources at the detriment of the good people of Ikaleland.

“Your Excellency, please, do not turn a blind eye and allow us to go into slavery in the hands of these people who are now working for Betty Akeredolu. Look for qualified loyalists among our people and consider them to bring succor to the zone “ they said.

The group appealed to Gov Ayedatiwa to discontinue the reigns of Ajipe and his Owo boys in Ikale land.

“Our people want relief from these bullies, we can’t forget how Akeredolu insulted our Kings, it’s still fresh in our memory. We can no longer tolerate any of them stealing our common patrimony. The interest of our people must be protected. It is high time your excellency discontinued the reigns of Ajipe and his Owo boys in Ikale land. May history be kind to you”, the statement added.

PoliticsFormer Gov Yahaya Bello's Legacy In Infrastructure, Health, Others Worth Emulati by Adeboye80(op): 6:29pm On Feb 25, 2024
.. Declares 'Kogi State is working, editors highly impressed'

The Nigerian Guild of Editors has commended the Kogi State Government for what it described as a highly impressive performance in infrastructure, education and health.

The Guild gave the commendation during a tour of some of the projects initiated and completed under the administration of former Governor Yahaya Bello.

The President of the Nigerian Guild of Editors, Eze Anaba, who briefed journalists at the end of the project tour, specifically said, from what he and other editors had seen, first-hand, the former governor had left a legacy worthy of emulation in critical sectors.

He, however, added that the current Governor of the state, Alhaji Usman Ododo, was doing well to consolidate on the good work of his predecessor.

The NGE was in Lokoja to hold its standing committee meeting. In all, about 40 editors, across the print, electronic and online media participated in the meeting. The editors used the opportunity to inspect some of the projects executed by the past administration in the state.

According to the NGE President, the Reference Hospital in Okene is one that can help the country in the area of medical tourism.

"Recently, the Governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria told the whole world that medical tourism alone was costing this country a fortune. So, if Nigerians patronise this hospital, it will save this country a lot of money and help put our economy in good shape. With what we have seen here, Nigerians should be happy for it," he said.

He stated, "The immediate past administration has left a legacy worthy of emulation. I am appealing to the current administration to consolidate on the good work of the immediate past Governor of the state because he has done a lot in education, health and infrastructure development and such achievements should be sustained by the present administration.

"I and other members of the NGE have gone round projects executed by the Governor Yahaya Bello-led administration and I am saying this without mincing words that Kogi State is working and the current administration under Alhaji Ahmed Usman Ododo is doing well to sustain the legacies of his former boss.

"Democracy is about the people and the facilities we have seen, including the network of roads. If the road network is strong like we saw, I am sure Nigeria will be better for it. I am highly commending the State Government for what my team and I have seen so far.

"Government is a continuum. I would advise the current Government to follow the footstep of his predecessors. It is only in that way the Citizens will benefit and Kogi State will become the best place in the Country. People will know that democracy has taken root in Kogi State and the people are benefitting.

"At the end of the day, Governance is about the people. From what I have seen, from what my colleagues saw, Kogi is working in terms of education infrastructure and medical care.

"From a lay man perspective, I am not a Doctor. From what the Doctors have told me and my team and what we saw with our eyes, it is hugely impressive. The MRI machine and other laboratory equipment are very impressive. I have to commend the Kogi State Government for making this available.

"I would advise the people to put this to test and if this works, they will save Nigeria huge sums of money. Recently, the CBN Governor told the whole world that medical tourism alone is costing this country a fortune. So, if Nigerians patronise this hospital, it will save this country a lot of money and put our economy in good shape. What we have seen here, Nigeria should be happy for it."

The Commissioner for Information in Kogi State, Kingsley Fanwo; and his Health counterpart, Dr. Adams Abdulazeez, thanked the editors for finding time to inspect the projects and encouraged them to tell Nigerians exactly what they saw.

"If we are to go round all the projects initiated and completed under the immediate past administration in Kogi State, you will be here for more than one week. There was massive projects execution," Fanwo told the editors.

PoliticsFRN Vs Ali Bello: Court Shifts Trial Till March 14, Warns EFCC To Be Diligent I by Adeboye80(op): 7:17pm On Feb 23, 2024
A Federal High Court in Abuja has shifted further trial in the charges against Ali Bello and Suleiman Daudu till March 14 with a
warning to the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC, to be diligent in the conduct of the trial.

The Court, while granting accelerated hearing, threatened to close the charges against the defendants if the prosecution does not do due dilligence.

Justice James Omotoso, who issued the warning on Friday, asked the anti-graft agency to always get all its witnesses and exhibits ready on adjourned dates so as to avoid delay.

He warned that he would not tolerate lackadaisical attitude from any of the parties in the matter while shifting resumption of trial to March 14, 15, 20 and 21 .

Justice Omotoso also directed the defendants to keep further objections against the trial at abeyance, especially to the final address stage.

The Judge, who made this observation while ruling in a motion on notice filed by Suleiman Daudu challenging the amended charges, however, refused to quash the 17-count amended charge, involving alleged money laundering.

The court also declined to transfer the trial of the two defendants to Lokoja, the Kogi State capital, in line with the argument of the 2nd defendant through his counsel, Mr Jimoh Nureni, SAN, that since the alleged offence was committed in Lokoja, the proper and appropriate venue for trial should be at the Federal High Court in Lokoja.

The judge noted that the Federal High Court in Nigeria was one and that trial of any matter could be prosecuted in any of its divisions.

PoliticsFRN Vs Ali Bello & Anor: Co-defendant, Daudu Tackles EFCC On Competence Of Amen by Adeboye80(op): 3:53pm On Feb 22, 2024
Trial could not continue on Thursday, in the Charge marked FHC/ABJ/CR/550/2022: FRN v. Ali Bello & Anor, before Justice J. K Omotosho at the Federal High Court, in Abuja, owing to concerns about the competence of the charge, including the amended charges brought by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC.

Ali Bello's co-defendant, Suleiman Daudu, through his counsel and Senior Advocate of Nigeria SAN, Nureni Jimoh, raised objections against the fresh charges by EFCC.

Although the amended charges have not been read to them for their plea to be taken afresh, the co-defendant is praying the court to reject it outrightly.

However, the motion challenging the amended charges could not be entertained by Justice James Omotoso due to some flaws discovered in the motion.

Justice Omotoso subsequently ordered the lawyers to the 2nd defendant to re- file the motion and bring it back to the court on February 23.

The Judge said that he would unfailingly determine the motion first before proceeding with the trial of the defendants in the alleged offences filed against them by the anti-graft agency.

The matter has been shifted to February 23 for the motion and objections of the EFCC to be heard.

When the matter was called, Nureni Jimoh, SAN told the court that he had filed an application challenging EFCC's amended charge.

The prosecutor, Oyedepo Rotimi, SAN, however, said that he had yet to receive the application.

The 2nd defendant counsel also objected to the presence of the prosecution's 4th witness in court, Yakubu Haruna, on the ground that his name was not listed on the witness list given to his team.

The prosecutor said that he had filed the amended charge against the defendants and that all the names of the witnesses he intended to call were listed.

Ali Bello and Dauda Suleiman, are standing trial on a 10-count criminal charge, bordering on money laundering brought against them by the EFCC.

Politics'I Salute Your Courage' — Kolawole Babatunde Pens Tribute To Akeredolu by Adeboye80(op): 8:18pm On Feb 19, 2024
Kolawole Babatunde, the former Special Adviser on Rural and Community Development to ex-Governor Oluwarotimi Akeredolu, has expressed his admiration and respect for the former governor.

Babatunde who paid glowing tributes to Akeredolu in a statement issued on Monday in Akure, the Ondo State capital, saluted the courage of Akeredolu.

The statement reads, “In solemn tribute to the late Governor of Ondo State, Arakunrin Oluwarotimi Odunayo Akeredolu, SAN, CON who departed this sinful world on 27th December, 2023 after an unsuccessful battle with illness.

“Today, I celebrate a mentor and a leader of extraordinary courage and uncommon determination whose unmatched commitment to Ondo State's infrastructural development reshaped its landscape.

“For about five years and until his demise I was under the political tutelage of this erudite legal czar, unpretentious statesman and compassionate leader.

“The contributions of Arakunrin Akeredolu to national development were profound, marked by fervent advocacy for true federalism and equitable distribution of resources. As a world-class legal luminary, the late Aketi (as fondly called by his admirers) used the instrumentality of law to fight oppressive and repressive regimes thereby championing the cause of the common man.

“He was extremely brave, fearless, blunt and outspoken. He was a thorn in the flesh of the oppressors and agents of divisive tendencies.

“I want to particularly salute the exceptional courage and doggedness of the late Arakunrin Oluwarotimi Odunayo Akeredolu, SAN, CON in spearheading the agitations for Southern Presidency when it became glaring that some politicians had perfected plans to perpetuate the North in power by jettisoning the operational rotational agereement after the eight years' rule of former President Muhammadu Buhari.

“Aketi became a lone voice roaring in the political wilderness that power must shift to the South at a time when it was unsafe to do so.

“When the Fulani killer herdsmen and marauders were on rampage in Ondo and other states of the South West Region, Akeredolu's leadership shone brightly in his pioneering role in establishing the Amotekun Corps, a crucial initiative ensuring the safety and security of Ondo State's citizens in spite of stiff oppositions by Federal authorities.

“The late Arakunrin Oluwarotimi Odunayo Akeredolu, SAN, CON remained undaunted even when his re-election bid in October 2020 was greatly threatened for his uncompromising stand on the vexatious issue of Fulani herdsmen.

“He was too passionate about his people and was ready to sacrifice his plum position to ensure their safety. No doubt, Ondo State and other states in the Region are safer now.

“No doubt, Arakunrin Oluwarotimi Odunayo Akeredolu, SAN, CON had etched his name on our minds and had left indelible footprints on the sands of time. May his legacy stand as an enduring beacon of dedication, progress, and legal advocacy for generations to come.

PoliticsFRN Vs. Ali Bello & Anor: Drama As Efcc's Witness Counters Agency's Allegations by Adeboye80(op): 2:41pm On Feb 13, 2024
Drama erupted on Tuesday at the Federal High Court in Abuja when the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) alleged that its main witness, Rabiu Musa, in the suit marked FHC/ABJ/CR/550/2022: FRN v. Ali Bello & Anor, had been scared away from trial.

The witness, an Abuja based Bureau De Change operator, was alleged to have been threatened, following his appearance at the last trial and got scared.

Lawyer to the anti-graft agency, Hannatu Kofamaisa, made the allegations at the resumed trial of Ali Bello and Daudu Suleiman.

She told Justice James Omotoso that the witness would not be in court to continue his evidence, based on his experience of threats at the last adjourned date, adding that she had called the witness five times but that he was no longer picking her calls.

Counsel to Ali Bello, Abdullahi Aliu, a Senior Advocate of Nigeria, told the court that he would not react to the EFCC's allegations because they were not targeted at his client and did not oppose the request for an adjournment.

Drama, however, unfolded when the witness alleged to have been threatened away from court and would not attend the trial, suddenly walked into the court room without any signs of apprehension.

The counsel to Ali Bello got up and drew the attention of Justice Omotoso to the quiet arrival of the witness into the court room.

Justice Omotoso however doused tension when he prevented lawyers to Ali Bello and Daudu Suleman from joining issues with EFCC on the allegations.

In his testimony, the witness identitied one of his record books of transactions seized from him by EFCC during a raid of his office at Wuse, in Abuja and also admitted knowing Ali Bello.

Under cross examination by Nureni Jimoh SAN who stood for Daudu Suleman, the Bureau De Change operator who claimed to be an illiterate said most of the transactions were recorded for him by one Mubarak who he said was literate and now a student at a University.

He also admitted that parts of the transactions were recorded in his absence but that he was always briefed upon his arrival at the office.

Justice Omotoso thereafter fixed February 22 and 23 for continuation of trial.

SportsAFCON: The Hope Of The Black Race Is The Giant Of Africa By Bisayo Busari-akinna by Adeboye80(op): 11:15am On Feb 11, 2024
The past weeks have found Nigerians again uniting for one purpose, WINNING, the African cup of nations. For a country whose people are going through one of the hardest economic downturns in a bid to restructure the country, victories in a game of football are a great gift.

I have always held the torch of hope for a better future, and I remain undaunted in my resolve. History has shown us that there are many countries of the world that had to go through their hardest seasons before finding a balance. The United States went through the depression, and Singapore went through her bleak moments, Dubai, one of the United Arab Emirates, went through dark moments before vision took over.

In my analysis of our dear country, what needs to be fixed since independence and after amalgamation is just receiving attention for the first time under the current regime. Every past administration, both military and civilian, were in their own way gathering bricks and stones for development without actually restarting or rebuilding the faulty foundation. If we can achieve unity of purpose, common vision, and a national dream, the successes can be measured quantitatively.

One of my favourite quotes is that where the purpose of a thing is not known, abuse is inevitable. Also, where one fails to turn its lemon into lemonade, sour tastes are a must. In the general parlance, you must have heard that Nigeria is a marriage of unlikely bedfellows, but what happens when unlikely bedfellows adopt innovation and strategies that make them cohabit successfully thereby creating a union never envisaged, studied or understood by the entity responsible for the amalgamation. If Nigerians are able to decipher the purpose of their unity, the progress attainable from being united, and turn every weakness to strength, the citizens would rejoice, and the world at large would be better.

I have also held the opinion that the world would not know peace until Nigeria finds its right footing because hardly would you not find a Nigerian in very important sectors in different countries. My country men and women contribute to every sector in the thriving world, even though they may claim other citizenship. Nigerians in every nook and cranies are highly influential people. Thus, to get Nigeria right is to get the world right. Otherwise, the influence all over the planet can not be positive.

It is my hope that beyond football, music, and arts, we find every unique thing that binds us together and celebrates as much as we are celebrating our successes.

Let's remember that water will find its level and Nigeria will indeed be better in the coming years such that people will queue to secure visas to Nigeria. This is a realistic aspiration.

Let's keep the hope high regardless of the challenges that may come our way, even in the face of what we are already facing. The sun can not be held back by the clouds. The giant can not be dwarfed by the heels of a short man. Nigeria is indeed the giant of Africa. The hope of the black race and Nigeria will be great.

PoliticsKogi: Anti-corruption Csos Warn EFCC Against 'cankerworms Of Previous Management by Adeboye80(op): 6:24pm On Feb 07, 2024
Anti-Corruption Civil Society Organisations, on Wednesday, warned the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, under the leadership of Ola Olukoyede, to refrain from allowing "cankerworms of the previous management left in the system" rubbish his credentials as the Head of the Commission.

The over 300 anti-corruption activists, under seven broad frontline organisations, noted that it was pertinent for them to sound an early note of warning in view of the fact that the misuse of the EFCC by political gladiators, as a veritable tool of victimization and score-settling, which they thought had been tackled, was suddenly rearing its head again.

The anti-corruption Civil Society Organisations advised the EFCC boss to sit up and stop the Commission from being accessed by "political miscreants who think EFCC is an extension of their political structures to be manipulated at will."

They specifically referred to the Kogi State Government's press statement, which was released on Tuesday, alerting the public to an alleged fresh move by the Commission to witch-hunt the ex-Governor with spurious claims for political reasons.

The activists pointed out that the crux of the latest persecution, going by the EFCC's amended charge sheet, which featured ex-Governor Bello's name, showed a clear case of desperation for spurious claims to whip up public sentiment against the target, adding that any litigation on corruption founded on political conspiracy would always have no merits to pursue it.

"While we stand solidly behind any credible anticorruption drive, we, however, oppose and condemn unequivocally any and all corruption allegations with the trappings and trademarks of political victimization as this Kogi case clearly seems to be," they declared.

They described the latest amended charge as extremely embarrassing, saying, "A Court document at our disposal submitted to the Court by EFCC is alleging that the former Governor and his nephew, one Alli Bello, converted Kogi State's money to the tune of over Eighty Billion Naira since September 2015!

"This looks like a hurriedly prepared amendment targeted at an individual without paying much attention whatsoever to facts. Except the Commission is able to prove before the court that the duo had been involved in financial transactions with Kogi State money before Yahaya Bello assumed office in January 2016 as Kogi State Governor, then they have a lot of questions to answer Nigerians."

"This is always how bad-intentioned and politically motivated allegations are exposed and it smacks of a profound dearth of professionalism on the part of the EFCC. If they come up with a nebulous excuse of typographical error, this further exposes their lack of professionalism and calls to question the competency of the EFCC leadership and legal team/department," the activists noted.

They vowed to expose political actors behind the incessant EFCC political victimization, stating, "We are working with others across the country and we are ready to expose those behind this witch hunting and also expose their dirty dealings which have continued to undermine the current administration's efforts at economic revitalisation, to the public."

While referring to a recent statement by Olukoyede against the conduct of some EFCC officials, the anti-corruption activists said, "If the EFCC chairman doesn't want the embarrassing public image he personally painted and actually known to all Nigerians to continue, he should sit up and get rid of all politically motivated allegations and stop the EFCC from being accessed by political miscreants who think EFCC is an extension of their political structures to be manipulated at will."

They stated, "After two decades of its establishment, we believe that the EFCC should have garnered enough experience to be strictly professional. But, alas, that doesn't seem to be the case now. The Commission commits unforgivable legal and procedural faux pas that makes it lose considerable percentage of its cases in Court. For one, the Commission's agents don't seem to be thorough enough in their investigations especially in cases that have political undertones.

"Due to lack of merits in those cases, oftentimes, the Commission exposes itself to unnecessary public ridicules and embarrasses itself in Court. Any litigation on corruption founded on political conspiracy will always have no merits to pursue it because the Courts won't ever be convinced otherwise."

"We can see that one of the major agenda of the current administration of President Ahmed Tinubu is also to fight corruption. We doubt very much that the Commission can meet up with the expected standards as envisaged by the current administration," their statement added.

Giving a background of their age-long activities geared towards fruitful anti-corruption struggles, the frontline acitivists noted, "As rights anticorruption organizations, we have been in the Vanguard of clamoring for corruption to be eliminated from Nigeria's civil service and governance for years. We are convinced that corruption, above any other factor, is responsible for the myriads of developmental challenges confronting Nigeria from a long time even before now.

"That was why we celebrated the establishment of the Independent Corrupt Practices Commission in the year 200 and the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC, in 2003 believing that these two elite anticorruption agencies would stamp out corruption from our system if not completely but, at least, considerably. It was a good step in a good direction.

"But we have observed a disturbing trend in the operations one of these two anticorruption agencies, the EFCC, which tends towards political witchunt. Of course, this didn't start today but we have to exorcize that spirit from the soul and body of the EFCC.

"There are two major disagreeable patterns in EFCC’s modus operandi for a long time now that should never have been part of any anticorruption regime and these are politicization of cases and media trials through excessive sensationalism of cases under investigation.

"We have witnessed occasions in this country when the EFCC arrested all members of a state assembly, whisked them to their Abuja headquarters, only for the latter to return ro their state and commence impeachment proceedings against their state Governor. Any anticorruption exercise that applies tools of intimidation and blackmail loses its integrity and public trust ultimately, including international support.

"One instance would suffice here. We remember vividly how only five out of a 24-member legislature of Plateau state in 2006 met at 6:00am and 'impeached' Governor Joshua Dariye after their alleged meeting with EFCC operatives. We cried out at that time that politicizing the operations of the Commission would kill its noble objectives. Moreover, you don't need to use extra-constitutional means in fighting the anticorruption war because you cannot use corrupt means to fight corruption successfully. There were, at least, three more instances in this regard.

"After much advocacy by NGOs and other concerned activists, this trend seemed to stop for a while only to rear its ugly head again under the ignoble tenure of Mr. Rasheed Bawa. That error of judgment and the heavy corruption allegations against Bawa were mostly responsible for his premature but well-deserved removal from office last year.

"We had assumed that that would be the end of such misuse of the EFCC by political gladiators who have discovered the use of the Commission as a veritable tool of political victimization and score-settling. But it does seem now that we are wrong.

"We are disappointed that the current EFCC leadership seems to have decided to tow the line of the ignoble Bawa way of doing things the wrong way."

The statement was signed on behalf of others by the Director, Publicity and Research, Sustainable Initiative for Nurturing Growth, Fisayo Abayomi; Chairman, Zero Graft Coalition, Dr. Olusegun Adesanmi; and National Coordinator, Integrity Forum, Engr. Mohammed Zakari.

PoliticsEFCC'S Political Agenda Exposed —kogi Govt. by Adeboye80(op): 1:21pm On Feb 06, 2024
The Kogi State Government has raised the alarm over what it described as a desperate attempt by "criminals masquerading as politicians" to tarnish the image of the immediate past Governor of Kogi State, HE Yahaya Bello, for selfish reasons, through the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission.

The state government said, in its desperation, "which would leave Nigerians wondering who exactly is afraid of Yahaya Bello", the EFCC has, in an amended charge, accused the former Governor of diverting Kogi State Government funds in September 2015, four months before he assumed the position of a Governor.

It said this was not only laughable but portrayed the EFCC as an agency infested with persons whose intents disagree with the noble intention of Mr. President to defeat corruption in Nigeria.

A statement signed by the Commissioner for Information in Kogi State, Kingsley Fanwo, said, "The fact that the EFCC, in charge No. FHC/ABJ/CR/550/2022: FRN V. 1. Ali Bello 2. Dauda Suleiman, currently pending before Honorable Justice J.K. Omotosho of the Federal High Court, Abuja Division further amended the 'Amended Charge' to include in the count, the name of H.E Yahaya Bello, describing him as being "at large", is ridiculous, laughable and portrays the EFCC as an agency infested with persons whose intents disagree with the noble intention of Mr. President to defeat corruption in Nigeria.

"Being 'at large' of course means that a person is evading arrest or is on the run and cannot be found after an attempt to arrest.

"For the sake of clarity, the original charge is against Ali Bello and Dauda Suleiman, Ali’s associate. The offence which H.E Yahaya Bello is alleged to have committed upon which he has been named in the count is conspiracy to convert the total sum of N80,246,470,089.88 (Eighty Billion, Two Hundred and Forty Six Million, Four Hundred and Seventy Thousand, Eighty Nine Naira, Eighty Eight Kobo) which offence is said to have occurred on or about September 2015 in Abuja. His co-conspirators according to the Count are Abdulsalami Hudu (Kogi State Government House Cashier) described as being ‘at large’ too, Ali Bello and Dauda Suleiman.

"In the EFCC's desperation to nail H.E Yahaya Bello, they forgot their thinking hammer at home.

"The Count of the offence is most laughable as the election that produced H.E Yahaya Bello, CON, as Governor of Kogi was only conducted in November 2015. Indeed, H.E. Captain Idris Wada of the PDP held sway as Governor of Kogi State at the material time until he handed over to H.E Yahaya Bello on the 27th day of January 2016.

"H.E Yahaya Bello could therefore not have as of September 2015 conspired with anyone, including Abdulsalami Hudu, a Kogi Government House Cashier to convert any money belonging to the Kogi State Government. It is to be noted that H.E Yahaya Bello before becoming the Governor of Kogi State had no financial dealings with the Kogi State Government which could have permitted him to convert monies belonging to the Kogi State Government, hence, one’s dismay at the allegation."

The state government warned political actors to steer clear of Kogi State affairs and desist from their campaign of calumny "as the state government has not said its money is missing, and has been adjudged, both locally and internationally, as top in the area of transparency and accountability."

The state government asked: "Why should Nigerians trust the leadership of the agency that made such a ridiculous, shameless and indefensible allegation? The Chairman of the Commission should tender unreserved apologies to the Nigerian people for making us a laughing stock in the comity of nations."

It called on the President to step in to save the integrity of the EFCC from those "pushing the Commission into a fight that should be left to politicians."

"The Kogi State Government under the leadership of His Excellency Alh. Ahmed Usman Ododo will continue to support the Renewed Hope Agenda of Mr President. We will also continue to promote probity, accountability and transparency and open our books to agencies and institutions constitutionally empowered to look into them. We will continue to win awards in transparency and accountability," the state government added.

The journey did not begin today, according to Fanwo.

He said, "In 2021, the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission in a desperate bid to embarrass the Government of Kogi State then under the leadership of His Excellency Alh. Yahaya Bello, came out with a false claim that it had uncovered over N20 billion Naira of the state's bail out fund in a Fixed Deposit Account in Sterling Bank. Emboldened by its innocence, the Kogi State Government wrote a letter to Sterling Bank for clarifications.

"The Bank came out clean that the State Government had no such account with it, rubbishing the blatant falsehood of the EFCC in a manner that was so embarrassing to the people and Government of the Federal Republic of Nigeria.

"But rather than apologize to the Government of Kogi State and the general public, the EFCC chose to harass the officials of Sterling Bank, coercing them to do everything possible to achieve the aim of roping tue Kogi State Government into their ignominy ring. It ended with a conspiratorial exchange between the EFCC and the CBN. Today, Nigerians are not confused about the personae of Bawa and Emefiele.

"The sack of Bawa and the startling revelations that followed threw Nigerians into jubilation. Their hope was that EFCC will birth a new era of separating political vendetta from the actual fight against corruption. But recent happenings have shown that it isn't war against corruption anymore but a clear manifestation of hired gun approach to hack down political opponents by certain elements within and outside the anti graft agency.

"This betrays the determination of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, GCFR to retool the agency and make it more vibrant in preventing and fighting corruption in a genuine and objective manner within the ambit of the rule of law."

According to him, the current leadership of the EFCC has now continued to tow the path of the leadership of Abdulrasheed Bawa who woke up one day in August 2021, decided in his mind that the Kogi State Government had Twenty Billion Naira in an account, secured ex-parte, an Order of the Federal High Court, Lagos empowering him to direct the Manager of Sterling Bank Plc to freeze Account No. 0073572696 with the name Kogi State Salary Bail Out Account pending the conclusion of investigation or possible prosecution.

"They went on even when Sterling Bank through a letter addressed to the Kogi State Government dated 1st September, 2021 confirmed that 'the Kogi State Government does not currently operate or maintain a Fixed Deposit Account with Sterling Bank’
‘There is no mandate letter from the Kogi State Government to open account number 0073572696 with Sterling’ and that 'Sterling Bank account 0073572696’ is an internal (mirror) account operated by the Bank for purposes of managing the Kogi State salary bailout facility," he said.

The state government added, "While the EFCC’s suit was withdrawn and the Order of Court vacated upon a challenge by the Kogi State Government, the EFCC continued to issue press statements on all its social media platforms, attaching the pictures of H.E Yahaya Bello to those statements and insisting that the factual basis of their claim was genuine. To cover up the falsehood and their shame, the EFCC under Bawa compelled Sterling Bank Plc and the CBN under its embattled Governor Emefiele, to write letters confirming the return of funds belonging to the Kogi State Government to the CBN, when no such funds existed.

"The EFCC has since refused to answer to the suit filed against it since 2021 by the Kogi State Government and its officials challenging the falsehood on the issue of bailout funds. The EFCC has continued to maintain frivolous appeals even when the Court of Appeal had confirmed that the trial Court had the jurisdiction to entertain the suit.

"A similar modus operandi was employed by the EFCC with respect to the former first lady of Kogi State, Rashida Bello. She was named in the counts of offence and described as being at large in Charge No: FHC/ABJ/573/2022: FRN V. (1) ALI BELLO (2) ABBA ADAUDU (3) YAKUBU SIYAKA ADABENEGE (4) IYADI SADAT and was alleged to have conspired to criminally misappropriate over Three Billion Naira, funds allegedly belonging to some Local Government Areas of Kogi State. It is noteworthy that she was never invited by the EFCC or arrested before branding her as being ‘at large’.

"As usual, the EFCC employed rogue ‘news’ platforms who sensationalized the issue, claiming that the then First Lady has been charged to Court and was running from justice!"

The Kogi Government said the current leadership of the EFCC seemed to have picked up the gauntlet from where Bawa left it.

"They have started using their media cronies and other faceless blogs and rogue media handles to spread lies about H.E Yahaya Bello. The purpose of the current amendment of Charge No. 550/2022 is no doubt to allow their irresponsible bloggers gleefully but erroneously claim that Yahaya Bello has been charged to Court for the conversion of over 80 Billion of Kogi money, an offence which was allegedly committed when he was not yet a Governor.

"The unprecedented extent to which the EFCC is ready to go to tarnish the image of the Kogi State Government and also the image of the immediate past Governor, His Excellency Alh Yahaya Bello, has left much to be desired.

"It is in our character to fight in defence of the integrity of the Government and over 5 million Kogites whose common patrimony the Government allocates on their behalf. We are prepared to use the instrumentality of law to defend the integrity of the State Government.

"We urge the people of Kogi State to remain calm and law abiding in the face of relentless provocation by EFCC who is insisting that the money we used to build infrastructure in the state is missing. We will never lose a just battle."

PoliticsHeroic Homecoming: Mammoth Crowd Storm Okene Streets To Welcome Yahaya Bello by Adeboye80(op): 8:32pm On Jan 29, 2024
.. Thank him for sterling achievements, making them proud

In what they described as a celebration of "eight years of unprecedented strides", indigenes and residents of Okene in Kogi State, on Sunday, trooped out in their thousands to welcome the immediate past Governor of the state, Yahaya Bello, back home after two impactful tenures.

They treated the White Lion, as he is fondly called, to a heroic homecoming ceremony at the ancient town, Okene, where Bello hails from.

With loud cheers, pomp and pageantry, the jubilant residents heaped praises on the immediate past governor over his sterling performance in office, with different clans performing with their masquerades amid the thick crowd that thronged the streets.

Before former Governor Bello arrived Okene, a crowd of residents of Lokoja, the state capital, had assembled on the highway linking the former governor's country home to bid him farewell after successfully handing over to his successor, Governor Usman Ododo.

They lined up at the roadside and expressed gratitude to Bello, saying he had successfully transformed Kogi beyond their expectations in his two terms in office.

Some of the citizens who spoke after Bello's convoy pulled over to acknowledge their greetings, said the former governor had left an indelible mark of achievements in the Confluence State.

When Bello's convoy arrived at the entrance of Okene town, enthusiastic and proud indigenes/residents were seen waving at their kinsman in excitement.

As the convoy journeyed deeper into the heart of Okene, the town erupted in jubilation as the former governor's kinsmen who adorned in ceremonial attire, accompanied by drums and trumpets, danced along the streets, saying Bello had elevated Okene and Kogi State to an enviable height.

The former governor visited his maternal ancestral home, where special prayers were offered in honour of the memory of his departed mother, seeking divine blessings for him as he returned home.

Also, Bello stormed the palace of the Ohinoyi of Ebiraland, along with the new Governor of the state, Usman Ododo, where he was given a rousing welcome. The mammoth crowd seen at the palace was unprecedented.

The traditional ruler, HRM, Alhaji Ahmed Tijani, hailed former governor Bello's transformative impact on Kogi state's infrastructure and economy and congratulated Governor Ododo on his inauguration.

Meanwhile, former Governor Bello expressed his profound gratitude to the people of his hometown and Kogi State in general for the overwhelming reception accorded him.

While addressing his admirers, he urged citizens of the state to support the administration of Governor Usman Ododo for the continued development and transformation of the state.

"I am filled with joy over this overwhelming show of gratitude, happiness and love. It further attests to the impacts our government has made in the lives of Kogites. I humbly return all thanks and praises to the Almighty God. He alone is the Doer of everything we can lay claim to have done in office as a government. Without His enablement we would have been both helpless. To God be the Glory!

"Now, we can live with a clear conscience, confident that we did our best for Kogites within the time and resources available to us.

"I have successfully handed over to Governor Ahmed Usman Ododo. Ododo will need our support to succeed in the overall interest of the state. Once more, I want to thank you for this honour,” the former governor stated.

A former Attorney General and Commissioner for Justice in Ondo State, Sir Charles Titiloye, has expressed appreciation to the people of the Sunshine State for the immense support given to him.

Titiloye, in a statement he personally signed on Sunday, listed his achievements since his inception at the Ministry.

Below is the full statement:

APPRECIATION TO THE GOVERNMENT AND GOOD PEOPLE OF ONDO STATE FOR THE OPPORTUNITY TO SERVE AS THE ATTORNEY GENERAL AND COMMISSIONER FOR JUSTICE.

I humbly wish to express my profound gratitude to the Government and good people of Ondo state for the opportunity to serve as the Attorney General and Commissioner for Justice of Ondo State between 30th of November, 2020 and 23rd of January, 2024. I am greatly honored to have creditably led the state as the Chief Law officer of the state during this period. It was a period of taking serious decision aimed at reforming the Justice sector of the state and ensuring the peace, security and stability of the state.
I appreciate the Former Governor of Ondo State, Arakunrin Oluwarotimi O. Akeredolu SAN for finding me worthy to be appointed as the Attorney General of Ondo State. The same way, I appreciate his successor in office, Governor (Hon.) Lucky Orimisan Ayedatiwa for the support given to me while he was in office as the Deputy Governor and during the brief period I worked with him after he became the substantive Governor of the state.

ONDO STATE JUSTICE SECTOR UNDER THE WATCH OF SIR CHARLES TITILOYE KSM FCArb.
The office of the Attorney General is central to law and order and timely dispensation of Justice in the State. Late Governor Oluwarotimi Akeredolu SAN is an epitome of great virtue; he supported all my efforts at bringing reforms to public administration and governance in the state. Let me highlight some of the landmark decision taken under my watch as the Attorney General and Commissioner for Justice.

1. DEPARTMENTAL REFORMS IN THE MINISTRY OF JUSTICE.
On assuming office as the Attorney General of the State, I noticed that Ministry of Justice was stagnant with more than 10 officers on grade level 17 heading the few departments in the Ministry and with no opportunity for the promotion of the junior officers to the management cadre. Also litigating files and resolvable cases choked the Department of civil Litigation.

Consequently with approval of the Governor, I established the DEPARTMENT OF COUNSELING, ALTERNATIVE DISPUTE RESOLUTION AND ARBITRATION. The department handles the recommendation of regular and periodic release of convicts from the correctional centre by the Governor and ensures proper counseling and their re-integration with the larger society. Also the department ensured that cases are settled amicably through ADR in order to reduce the waste of public/private funds on Courts litigation and ensure quick resolution of disputes. Arbitration is a common provision in modern Memorandum of Understanding, this department worked to arbitrate and ensure contentious issues in Government agreement are quickly resolved amongst parties without any need for litigation.

CREATION OF DEPARTMENT OF LEGAL SERVICES IN MINISTRIES, DEPARTMENT AND AGENCIES.
For the first time in the History of Ondo State, Department of Legal Services were created in the MDA(s) and Lawyers were deployed to other Ministries to ensure prompt delivery of legal advice to ministries in the course of execution of Government policies. This has averted unnecessary litigation against the government and made the common man to see Government as a developmental partner.

2. RESTRUCTURING OF THE EXISTING DEPARTMENTS AND AGENCIES UNDER THE MINISTRY OF JUSTICE.
All the existing Departments were repositioned for efficiency with specific attention on core departments like:

A. DEPARTMENT OF PUBLIC PROSECUTION. (DPP)
The DPP was restructured through the creation of (2) units
i. Private Prosecution Units monitoring all private prosecution granted by the Fiat of the Attorney General.
ii. Criminal Appeal Unit handling quick dispensation of Justice in cases at the appellate Courts.

Quick issuance of legal advice and attendance of counsel in Court for criminal trial was given priority under my watch.

B. OFFICE OF ADMINISTRATOR GENERAL AND PUBLIC TRUSTEE.(AG/PT)
The AG/PT was made more independent and efficient under my watch, The office was reposition to attend more to the public, generate revenue for Government through administration of estates and the creation of Affidavit Unit within the Department. A new standard procedure for deposition to oath was established.

ONDO STATE LAW COMMISSION.
The Law Commission was described as moribund before my appointment as the Attorney General of the State. On my appointment as the A. G. the commission was given a new lease of life, a female law officer with PHD (Doctorate degree) in law was deployed to man the Commission as the Secretary and the dilapidating structure was renovated to ensure recommencement of operation.

PUBLICATION OF POCKETS OF LAWS.
With the approval of Mr. Governor, I directed the Law Commission to start the publication of pocket of laws of Ondo State to meet the need of lawyers, Judges and the general public desirous of accessing crucial laws in the state. Many laws including the following laws/ practice direction has been published by the Commission.
i. Ondo State Security Network Law (Amotekun Corps) and its amendment.
ii. Child Rights Law.
iii. Administration of Criminal Justice Laws of Ondo State.
iv. Ondo State Multi Door Court Laws,
v. Ondo state livestock rearing Law (Anti open grazing law)
vi. Practice direction on application for fiat from the office of Attorney General of the State.
vii. Ondo State Violence against Person Prohibition Law. (VAPP LAW).
viii. Ondo State Public Complaint, Financial crime and Anti Corruption law.
Ondo State Law.
IX. Anti kidnapping Law.
X. White paper on Justice Ajama commission on Chieftaincy matter.

Ondo state Law Commission has now been listed as one of the revenue generating agency in the state due to regular sales of books and publications.

OFFICE OF PUBLIC DEFENDER.
For the first time since the 17 years of establishment of the Office of the Public Defender, the Governing board was appointed and inaugurated by the Governor of the state on the recommendation of the Office of Attorney General of the State.

The Following Human Right groups/Agencies were accredited to send in Board Members
1. Committee for Defence of Human Rights. (CDHR)
2. Justice, Development, and Peace Commission (JDPC).
3. Nigerian Bar Association (NBA).

Four New Department were created:
a. Department of Public Defence.
b. Department of Public Complaint.
c. Department of Public Enlightenment.
d. Department of Human Rights.

Office of Public Defender was moved to a new accommodation, it was granted a full autonomy from Ministry of Justice, necessary complimentary civil servants staffs were deployed to the agency and today OPD now has its budgetary allocation directly from the state Government. The agency presently has been able to intervene and protect the rights of the common citizenry of the state.

3. COMPLIMENTARY SERVICES TO THE GOVERNMENT.
I diligently worked to ensure the making and passage of more than 30 Executive bills some of which has been passed by Ondo State House of Assembly into law.

My office offered complimentary services in respect of the Implementation and publishing of Government White Paper on the Hon. Justice Ajama Chieftaincy Commission Report and promotion and elevation of Obas in Ondo State.

The office of Attorney General of Ondo State under my watch worked on the implementation of the report/Passage of enabling laws and White paper on Creation of Local Government Development Area in Ondo State. Ondo State now has 51 LGA/LCDA.

To uplift the educational standard in Ondo state, some schools were returned to the mission. I prepared the Framework and Memorandum of Understanding for handing over some public schools back to the mission. To date Aquinas College, Akure, St Louis Secondary school, Ondo and some Primary schools have been returned to the owner, the Catholic Church.

I made it as a priority to personally prepare and appear in cases involving the State Government and secure Judgment in favour of the Government. Some the cases impacted directly on the life of the people including the recent Judgment of the Supreme Court on scarcity of Naira notes and Swapping of Naira Notes for new ones in Nigeria. (Attorney General of Ondo State Vs. Attorney General of the Federation.)

4. STAFF WELFARE
I prioritize the welfare of the staff of Ondo State Ministry of Justice, Law Commission and Office of Public Defender.

To this extent I ensure regular payment of Practicing Fees for Lawyers and regular attendance of Lawyers at the Annual Bar Conference of the Nigerian Bar Association.

To keep the ethics of Legal profession in terms of proper dressing for Lawyers both in the office and in the Court, I ensure annual payment of Wardrobe/Outfit Allowances to lawyers in the Ministry of Justice and the MDA(s).

LAWYER COURT SHUTTLE CARS
I established a Court Shuttle consisting of 5 (five) Toyota Cars to regularly conveyed lawyers to Court and presently in year 2024 budget a fix sum of N10 million has been appropriated and approved by Mr. Governor to regularly fuel the vehicle in order to ensure Lawyers promptly attend Court.

INHOUSE TRAINING IN LAW FOR LAW OFFICERS
For the first time in the Ondo State Ministry of Justice, I established an annual in-house training programme for Law Officers. Resource person were invited annually to train lawyers and certificate of participation were issued.

5. ON JUDICIARY/ GOVERNMENT COMMITTEES.
I ensured a cordial relationship between the judiciary and the executive arm of Government. The independence and finality of Courts in respect of issue before it was upheld under my watch as the Attorney General.

As a member of Judicial Service Commission, I worked with my colleagues to ensure regular appointment of High Court Judges, Magistrates and appointment of Chief Judge for the state.
Emphasis was placed on competence and seniority in all the exercise.

Towards the construction of a modern High Court Complex in Ondo State, the Architectural design of a modern High Court premises has been drawn and the new site has been cleared. The contract for the construction of premises was prepared by the Ministry of Justice and same has been approved by the Governor. Adequate provision has been made in 2024 budget for the building and construction of the New High Court premises for Ondo State.

To decongest the Court and quicken criminal trials, Special Criminal Courts were created in Akure by the Chief Judge on the request from my office.

The Task Force on trafficking in Human Person under my Chairmanship embarked on regular public sensitization, road show and conferences to bring to fore the danger in trafficking in human person. I personally led some of the campaigns to markets and public institution in the state. Offenders were prosecuted (or counsel sometimes) while victims were rehabilitated.

6. CONCLUSION.
This letter of appreciation cannot completely capture my contribution to governance in the state as some official steps cannot be publicly disclosed here. My watchword in public office is integrity and due adherence to due process and rule of law. Such a great commitment in the present day Nigeria has its attendance risk and sacrifices. But we thank God for making it possible for us to triumph and succeed.

I look forward to publishing a book on my activities and speeches as the Attorney General and Commissioner for Justice.

Let me appreciate the Chairman and Members of the dissolved Ondo State executive Council for the cordial and mutual corporation we had while working together.

I thank Justices of the Supreme Court, Court of Appeal, Chief Judge of Ondo State, Hon. Justices of the Ondo State High Court/Customary Court of Appeal, Magistrates, Customary Courts and Court officials and administrative structure led by the Chief Registrar of Ondo state High Court for your support to ensure that I had a successful tenure.

I appreciate the staffs of Ministry of Justice, supporting MDA(s) and the entire workforce of Ondo State for the efficient way we worked jointly to improve the state and the Justice sector.

My eternal gratitude to Almighty God, the Great one who made us who we are.

Thanks to my wife, family, Friends, President of our nation, our party leaders/members, Ministers, former and serving Governors and well wishers. Your encouragement was a source of strength while I was in public office.

We acted not for today but for posterity and for the generation of our unborn children! Great ideas are not usually welcomed in the beginning but once sow as a seed, it will lead to bountiful harvest for the people!

I shall keep the flag flying friends no matter the situation.

God bless you all.

PoliticsThe World Is Afraid Of Women By Bisayo Busari-akinnadeju by Adeboye80(op): 9:45pm On Jan 19, 2024
What you do not understand, you fear. A woman is a depth that cannot be easily unraveled—a bag of wonders and strength, the womb carrier, and the one that births the world. History has shown that women, when in any position of power, rule without favor or fear. The Queen Amina of this world, the many great legends, the female Alafin Of OYO, Efunsetan Aniwura, Rosa Parks, and many more. This article is not about listing names because, as with the many women we know that made the limelight, there are millions more who are the heroines of their own stories. The journey of life as a woman is not only demanding, it is challenging yet highly inspirational. One should, therefore, not be shocked if there continues to be a need to undermine her participation in shaping the world rightly. The world system as we know it has become more difficult yet we continue to move towards oneness and unity, towards the inclusion of women and support that yields positive outcomes for our future.

A pertinent question when you see the people’s reaction to a woman’s failure is why does one woman’s failure elicit so much attention and reaction? Is the world really afraid of women and will attempt to magnify her faults or impute her faults on other women? There are also those who will go out of their way to ensure that she does not succeed and if possible, raise her to be used for selfish purposes. A girl-child indeed must be raised with sense of integrity, pride and confidence in her self worth because nations depend on her stance.

To bring it home to Nigeria where I advocate for more women in leadership positions, I acknowledge that women are celebrated on many mothers or woman's day but beyond marking calendar days, In Nigeria’s pre-colonial history, women in governance played pivotal and assertive roles, challenging the notion of subordination by actively contributing to the social and economic fabric of their communities. The Yoruba society, for instance, witnessed the dynamic influence of women leaders like the Iyalode, whose significance transcended mere conferment, marking their achievements as formidable milestones rather than mere titles.

In Northern Nigeria, the 16th century boasted a remarkable figure in Queen Amina, whose strategic prowess extended beyond governance to include the capture of territories and instrumental contributions to the economic development of her people. In Niger Igbo, the historical landscape echoes with the honorable mention of Omu, who distinguishes herself with exceptional leadership skills and economic mastery.

While acknowledging occasional gender disparities in some communities, it is crucial to note that, by and large, women were accorded respect, and their voices resonated in matters of governance. Their value extended beyond the traditional roles of reproduction, as they emerged as significant players in the economic landscapes of their respective kingdoms.

However, this narrative takes a poignant turn with the abrupt intrusion of colonial powers and the establishment of the 1922 Clifford constitution. This marked a pivotal moment where the once prominent and assertive roles of women in governance were relegated, casting a shadow over their contributions and diminishing their active participation in shaping the political destiny of their societies.

In contemporary society, discussions surrounding women in governance often evoke a myriad of opinions. While some argue that the world is hesitant to entrust leadership roles to women, it is crucial to approach this topic with a balanced perspective. Isolated cases should not be used to generalize the capabilities of women in governance. This article aims to applaud the resilience and the indomitable roles women in leadership played from Pre-colonial, post-colonial, and the advent of democracy. It also delves into the experiences of Nigerian women who have excelled in governance, showcasing their achievements while stating that women should have more representation in Governance.

The discourse surrounding women in Nigerian politics often succumbs to the tendency of pointing accusatory fingers, primarily fueled by the actions of a few who may not have wielded their influence responsibly while in power. Yet, echoing the sentiments of the renowned writer Chimamanda Ngozi Adichie, it is imperative to resist the peril of constructing a singular narrative. Applying this concept to women in governance, it becomes crucial not to let isolated instances shape a collective judgment. Each woman in a leadership role possesses a unique story, and their successes or challenges should not become the sole basis for generalizations about an entire gender. This brings to light the notion that the world harbors a certain apprehension toward women, a sentiment that is not entirely unwarranted.

The nation till date still falls short of achieving a progressive milestone with less than 35% female representation in the political sphere. Although, leadership is not resident in any gender; however, the call for increased female representation remains a pressing need for both the nation and the empowerment of women who have long endured systemic underrepresentation.

The notion that women are inherently more prone to corruption when placed in leadership roles lacks a solid foundation. This argument falls short because corruption in Nigeria is not exclusive to a particular gender or tribe; it is a pervasive issue affecting the average Nigerian. Corruption is a seed that has taken root and borne fruit across various demographics. It is essential to recognize that politicians are drawn from the broader society, implying that addressing corruption necessitates instilling the right values from an early age. To effectively combat corruption, a holistic approach must be adopted, focusing on fostering integrity and ethical values right from the cradle.

We, therefore, must not lose sight of the impact women can make if given the opportunity. Rwanda is of worthy mention here; their 2003 constitution provided for a quota system aimed at enhancing female representation across all tiers of government. According to the legislation, a minimum of 30 percent of representatives, spanning various levels of governance, including parliamentary positions, must be women. What sets Rwanda's quota system apart is its unique approach—it did not merely impose quotas on candidates but reserved a specific number of seats exclusively for women, often referred to as Equality of Result quotas. Notably, only women are eligible to vote for these designated women-only seats.

Since then, the engagement of women in Rwanda's political landscape and government has soared to unprecedented levels, witnessing a remarkable shift from women holding less than 24% of political positions to becoming the first country to achieve gender parity, where women now occupy more than half of the political leadership positions. Despite persistent challenges, such as being perceived as less competent in their roles, the tangible impact of women's contributions is evident. Notably, Rwanda stands out as one of the fastest-growing economies in Africa, a transformation that can be traced back to the initiation of the women's representation movement in 2004.

The positive outcomes of increased women's participation extend beyond economic growth. Rwanda has experienced a notable decrease in its poverty rate, witnessing an 18% decline. The inclusion of women in decision-making processes has prompted a reassessment of laws, enabling women to hold physical assets and the implementation of specific policies aimed at enhancing educational opportunities for girls. This approach to women's inclusion has not only elevated Rwanda's standing in the global political arena but has also fostered positive socio-economic changes, reflecting the profound impact of empowering women in various facets of society.

Rwanda's commitment to fostering women's leadership stands as a compelling example of effective measures that can be undertaken to address gender imbalances in political representation. On a personal note, I am putting myself forward as a candidate for the position of President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria in the upcoming 2027 elections. Currently, Nigeria has not witnessed the election of a female governor, let alone a female president, but my aspiration is fueled by a profound desire to empower the Nigerian girl child. I want them to understand and firmly believe that they hold significance at the highest echelons of leadership, with boundless potential to achieve greatness. I firmly reject the notion that women are meant to be subordinate to men; rather, they are designed to complement and match the energy of men in the pursuit of achievements and progress, much like the dynamics in pre-colonial times.

My inspiration is drawn from the exemplary leadership of Nigerian women who have left an indelible mark through their resilience and unique approaches. Figures such as the late Dora Akinyili, who raised the bar on integrity and patriotism in public service and Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala, who, as a former Minister of Finance, showcased excellence and on global stages, embodies the brilliance, power, and tenacity of women. These are stories that should be shared with our women and daughters to ignite their ambitions and instill the belief that they can accomplish anything they set their minds to. A woman fully realizing her potential is a force that the world both respects and fears.

Allow me to conclude with the narrative of Franca Afegbua, the first elected female senator in Nigeria. Her motivation stemmed from the unfair representation of her people, and she defied societal norms as a beautician turned politician. In an era dominated by male figures in politics, she faced ridicule regarding her ability to balance family obligations and political responsibilities, to which she confidently responded, "I will do both successfully." Franca Afegbua's story is a testament to the audacious spirit, tenacity, and grassroots engagement that women bring to the political arena. It's important to highlight her non-power-hungry approach, focusing instead on fulfilling promises to her constituents. The empathy and caring nature of women, as demonstrated by Franca Afegbua, may very well be the catalyst Nigeria needs to advance to the next level and embody the change we aspire to see. As I began typing from my table at the University of Cambridge Judge Business School, I can affirm that women are illustrious, formidable and the world need not be afraid of women in power.
