A group of Abuja based youthful professionals from Ondo south senatorial district, under the aegis of Ondo South Youthful Professionals (OSYP), have advised Hon. Tajudeen Adefisoye to drop his gubernatorial ambition and pursue ministerial appointment instead. The group appealed to the immediate past legislator who represented Idanre/Ifedore federal constituency of Ondo State at the 9th National Assembly to give-up his gubernatorial ambition in the interest of unwritten rotational agreement which exists amongst the three senatorial districts of the Sunshine State. This position was made known on Friday during a strategic political discussion titled 'Ondo 2024 Governorship Election : Roles of Youthful Professionals'. The event was held at the Ritman Hotels in the Asokoro area of the Federal Capital Territory. The group's Coordinator, Engr. Kingsley Maggie remarked that it had become a general and acceptable consensus that the next governor of Ondo State should come from the southern senatorial part of the Sunshine State. He therefore advised Hon. Tajudeen Adefisoye who is from Idanre Local Government Area in Ondo central senatorial district to shelve his gubernatorial ambition in the overall interest of equality, togetherness and sense of belonging amongst the three senatorial districts of the Sunshine State. Maggie said, "We are aware that Hon. Tajudeen Adefisoye (Small Alhaji) has already declared interest to contest the governorship election of Ondo State. It is within the constitutional right of Small Alhaji to seek any elective position in Ondo State and in Nigeria at large; but he needs to bear in mind that we have an unwritten rotational agreement that exists among the three senatorial districts of our state. "While we are aware of the popularity of Small Alhaji among the youths of Ondo State, the young man should please allow the unwritten rotational agreement to remain respected. We also salute the courage of Small Alhaji to have declared his intention to contest the 2024 governorship election. We are proud of his gut as a youth as well as his rise and achievements as a politician. Instead of planning to contest the 2024 governorship election, we will advise him to shift his attention towards a higher national service to Ondo State and Nigeria in a different capacity". Meanwhile, Maggi also opined that Ondo south senatorial district should be given all necessary support to produce the next governor of the state while the ministerial slot for Ondo State should be conceded to Ondo central senatorial district where Hon. Tajudeen Adefisoye comes from. Maggie particularly encouraged Adefisoye to push for the ministerial slot or any other federal appointment in place of the governorship position. He further stressed that it would not be a bad idea if a fellow youth from Ondo State is chosen as a minister or head of an important federal government parastatal. "As fellow youths like Small Alhaji, we will appeal to him to allow the southern senatorial district take its turn on the governorship while he shifts his attention towards the ministerial slot for Ondo State. It is already a settled issue that Ondo south senatorial district is to produce the next governor of our dear Sunshine State. Although we are aware that some APC big wigs in Ondo State have been talking to Small Alhaji since he made his governorship ambition known. "The young man is undoubtedly qualified to represent Ondo State, even as a minister or in any other capacity at the federal level. But as things stand today in our state, both Ondo central and northern senatorial districts should be encouraged to support Ondo south senatorial district to produce the next governor of our dear Sunshine State", Maggie added.

"He was also responsible for seven (7) kidnappings along Itobe-Anyigba highway from 5th to 28th May 2023," he added. While giving further details of the decision reached at the Security Council meeting, Yusuf noted that the Security Council reached a decision that known agents of Kabir Bala in criminal activities must be apprehended to face the law; all illegal arms in the possession of criminals in that area should be recovered for peace of the State; and that Joint Operations should be set up, comprising the Nigerian Army, Nigerian Navy, Nigeria Police, DSS, Civil Defence, to arrest the established criminals and recover the arms in their possession. Tajudeen Adefisoye has constructed one kilometer Imogun road at Ibule-Soro community in Ifedore Local Government Area of the state. The newly constructed Imogun road was described by the residents of Ibule-Soro as a timely project that would boost their livelihoods. The road was also described as the solution to erosion problem in the very area of Ibule-Soro community. Meanwhile, the constructed Imogun road according to the residents of Ibule-Soro has been in a bad shape before Adefisoye thought it necessary to get it fixed. The residents also opined that the constructed road is expected to open up Ibule-Soro community for further development and expansion. The residents that were full of praises said the constructed Imogun road was one of the many fulfilled electoral promises made by Hon. Adefisoye to the people of ifedore Local Government Area and Ibule-Soro community in particular. The project was expectedly completed with drainage and other necessary road furniture. Speaking after the road was completed, a resident of Ibule, Mr Sijibomi Adetoba commended Adefisoye whom he described as a promise keeper. He also said that it was uncommon to come by a legislator like Adedisoye who had impacted the lives of his constituents through infrastructural projects and welfare programmes. Adetoba added that the immediate past federal legislator may have chosen not to go ahead with the road construction for obvious reason. He further said that Adefisoye instead, toed the path of honour by going ahead to fulfil his electoral promise. He also said that the community would identity with the governorship ambition of Hon. Adefisoye. "I am glad that Small Alhaji has fulfilled his electoral promise to our people in Ibule-Soro community. Politicians have been coming to our community to canvass for votes and they have made lots of promises that were not fulfilled. But, Small Alhaji has proven himself as a different politician whose words can be taken to the bank. "Small Alhaji is one legislator that embark on infrastructural projects as if he is a state governor. This is another evidence of his many infrastructural projects and welfare programmes that were always aimed at bringing comfort to the people. Now that he has promised and delivered; our people in Ibule will be glad to support his governorship ambition. The youths in particular are willing to proclaim the governorship gospel of Small Alhaji. We have all seen what he did as MHR and a lot more should be expected form him as a governor", said Adetoba.

Former Presidential candidate and Restructuring campaigner,Rev Chris Okotie has broken his silence since the Presidential inauguration. In an explosive statement released in Lagos early today by his media adviser,Ladi Ayodeji, the Reverend expressed concern on a range of burning national issues and capped them up with his vision for Nigeria. Below is the full statement, issued to mark the Reverend 's 64th birthday: " It is hubristic naivety to envisage the emergence of a new Nigeria from a moribund political cocoon corrupted by duplicity, political criminality and the travesty of the electoral-social etiquette. "The current presidential system of governance has again manifested itself as a hydra-headed monstrousity. "No matter the outcome of the adjudications of the cases brought before the Nigeria assizes, by opposing political parties, nothing tangible will be achieved under this debilitating system. "We must be willing and courageous enough to abandon this circadian rhythm of political disaster and leadership deficit. "I am fully persuaded that aboriginal democracy is the only way forward. Let us make hay while the sun is still shining. To do otherwise is tantamount to mindless illogicality and clueless ineptitude. "At sixty-four (64), I envision Nigeria standing on the brink of the River Jordan anticipating an Aquarian miracle to facilitate our entry into the promise land. The God of Abraham, Isaac, Jacob and Nigeria will make a way where there seems to be no way. He has heard our cry. He is faithful. Delay is no denial." Rev Okotie assured Nigerians that he would continue to pursue his dream of getting the country restructured to pave the way for Aboriginal democracy.

There was jubilation in Lagos on Thursday as leaders of over 150 Anti-Corruption Civil Society Organisations gathered with their supporters to celebrate what they termed the first step in the cleaning process for the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission. They hailed the President Bola Tinubu administration for showing a bold will to fix the wrongs in critical areas of the Nigerian system and doing the right things in seemingly complex circumstances. They noted that the suspension of the Chairman of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, Abdulrasheed Bawa, and the Governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria, Godwin Emefiele, was long overdue. According to them, genuine Anti-Corruption CSOs are indeed happy that their struggle against "politicisation of the EFCC, disobedience to lawful court orders and infringement on the human rights of Nigerians with impunity" has yielded a positive result at last. The anti-graft crusaders, led by popular human rights activists, including the Chairman, Centre for Anti-Corruption and Open Leadership, Debo Adeniran; Executive Director, Zero Graft Centre, Kolawole Sanchez-Jude; Declan Ihehaire of the Activists for Good Governance; Ayodeji Ologun, Transparency and Accountability Group; and Olufemi Lawson, Spokesperson for the Coalition, among others, began a consistent call for Bawa’s removal about six months ago, holding rallies and town hall meetings across the country to press home their demand. They had called on former President Muhammadu Buhari to direct the Inspector-General of Police to effect the arrest of Bawa as ordered by a court of competent jurisdiction and commit him to prison for contempt. They also petitioned the President on the need for a thorough investigation into the activities of the EFCC under Bawa, saying weighty allegations of corruption had been leveled against him. The activists had said, despite obvious intimidation from certain quarters, they would not relent until Bawa stepped aside, noting that if the Buhari administration failed to do the right thing, the then incoming Tinubu administration would remove him. To show their support and mark the beginning of victory on what they described as a just cause, they trooped out on the streets of Ikeja in Lagos, defying the heavy rain and chanting solidarity songs, after which they converged on a hall to address the press. Speaking for the 150 CSOs, CACOL Chairman stated, "The Coalition of Anti-Corruption Organizations in Nigeria, is delighted to receive the news of the indefinite suspension of Mr Abdulrasheed Bawa, as the Chairman of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu. "The suspension of Mr Bawa, which is long overdue, is not only a welcome development, to the community of genuine Anti-Corruption Organizations in the country, but is considered by us as an opportunity for the thorough investigation into the many atrocious conduct of Mr Bawa during his reign as the Chairman of the EFCC. "We wish to state that the decision of the President is very timely, especially when coming at a time it has become necessary to shore up waning public confidence in the EFCC. "It is very sad that the reign of Mr Bawa as the Chairman of the EFCC was characterised by grave allegations of disobedience to the Rule of law with regard to court orders, alleged massive corruption and mismanagement of recovered public funds and assets. "The office of EFCC Chairman is one which must be high above reproach and any semblance of moral turpitude, therefore making the suspension of Mr Bawa a necessary action to protect the agency’s troubled image. "For over six months, our Coalition consistently demanded for the removal of Mr Bawa as Chairman of the EFCC based on several allegations of disobedience to the Rule of Law, allegations of personal enrichment, subversion of the course of justice in particular cases prosecuted by the EFCC and open politicisation of the Commission’s activities. "This timely intervention of President Tinubu will not only help in restoring the confidence of Nigerians in the credibility of the EFCC, but will further convince Nigerians about the readiness of the administration to tackle the menace of corruption. "Meanwhile, we are demanding for a thorough probe of the activities of the EFCC during the reign of Mr Bawa as Chief Executive of the Commission. This will not only assist in unraveling the numerous misconduct and abuse of office by Mr Bawa, but will indeed send a serious signal to intending abusers of their public offices that it is no longer business as usual, and that there are indeed no hiding places in the extant laws and procedural systems of Nigeria for power and position abusers. "We wish to state our commitment, in partnering with the new administration, to ensuring the survival of the Anti-Corruption efforts in the overall interest of our dear Nation." The 'Bawa Must Go' protests were led by CACOL Chairman, Debo Adeniran; Executive Director, Zero Graft Centre, Kolawole Sanchez-Jude; Chairman, Coalition Against Corruption and Bad Governance, Toyin Raheem; Executive Director, Centre for Public Accountability, Olufemi Lawson; Spokesperson for the Transparency and Accountability Group, Ayodeji Ologun; Director, Activists for Good Governance, Declan Ihehaire; and Ahmed Balogun of Media Rights Concern, among over 120 notable leaders of Anti-corruption CSOs.

A group of young professionals in different fields of endeavor under the aegis of the Forum of Youthful Nigerian Professionals (FYNP) has advocated for the inclusion of Ondo State youths that have distinguished themselves in the cabinet of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu. This appeal was made by the National Coordinator of the group, Dr Wilson Chibuna in Abuja on Thursday during an event organized in honour of outgoing members of the 9th House of Representatives that have distinguished themselves. Chibuna praised the sterling achievements of some youthful members of the lower legislative chamber and also advised them to leverage on their records of performance to climb the ladder of higher national service. He however spoke glowingly on the transformative strides of a 38-year-old Hon. Tajudeen Adefisoye, who is the outgoing member representing Idanre/Ifedore federal constituency of Ondo State. Chibuna further said that he was most impressed with the oversight performance of Adefisoye in the capacity of Deputy Chairman, House Committee on Army. He added that the recent improvement in the output of Nigerian Army personnel could be divorced from the diligent and important oversight recommendations by Adefisoye and other members of the House Committee on Army. While giving testimonies of the redefined representation and sterling legislative performance by Adefisoye, the FYNP coordinator said, "I was attracted to Hon. Adefisoye, who is better known as Small Alhaji by his patriotic and excellent oversight job that he did as the Deputy Chairman, House Committee on Army. This effort has undeniably manifested in the improved welfare of our soldiers and this has also in turn expectedly led to improvement in the performance of Nigerian Army personnel in the last three years. "Having seen the great qualities and competence of Hon. Adefisoye, I insisted that we should visit his federal constituency some two years ago, all in a bid to satisfy my curiosity. As expected, the number of projects already executed completely by Hon. Adefisoye got me marvelled. He came up with a lot of innovative projects that got him endeared to the grassroots. The constituents openly described him as obviously the best House of Representatives member since 1999. I was therefore not surprised when Small Alhaji won the 2021 African Best Legislator Award and other several national awards". Chibuna also commended the outstanding performance of another youthful legislator from Ondo State, Hon. Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo. The medical doctor added that he was also quite impressed with the quantum and quality of projects executed in Akoko North East/Akoko North West Federal Constituency of Ondo State by Tunji-Ojo. He therefore urged Governor Rotimi Akeredolu of Ondo State to project his youthful best that have been able to prove their mettle for positions in the administration of President Bola Tinubu. Chibuna also harped on the need for the older political class in Ondo State to allow the younger politicians to showcase their competence and capacity in the new dispensation at the national level of Nigerian politics.

. Sets aside Commission's invitation to past, serving Zamfara officials A Federal High Court, sitting in Gusau, Zamfara State has declared that the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission does not have the powers to invite (by letters, telephone calls or any other means of communication) serving and past officials of the Zamfara State Government for the purpose of explaining how the state's funds are utilised. The Court held that the power to audit the public accounts of Zamfara State is not vested in the 1st Defendant (EFCC) or any other authority, person, body or organisation other than in the Auditor General of Zamfara State. Justice Aminu Bappa Aliyu made this known on Wednesday while delivering judgment on a suit instituted by the Government of Zamfara State and Attorney General of Zamfara State against the EFCC and the Attorney of the Federation. The Court also set aside EFCC's letter of invitation to the past and serving officials of Zamfara State Government, dated 28th September, 2021, or any other date, noting that such letter, "being ultra vires the powers of the 1st Defendant", was null and void and of no effect whatsoever. These and other orders were made after the court had listened to submissions of the Plaintiffs' counsel, Abdulfathu Shehu; and Counsels to the defendants, Adebisi Adeniyi and P. A. Attah, in the Writ of Summons suit, dated and filed on November 16, 2021 and marked: FHC/GS/CS/30/2021. Having gone through the processes filed by the parties, Justice Aliyu granted all the prayers of the Plaintiffs, stressing that only the Zamfara State House of Assembly and the Auditor General of the state are vested with the constitutional authority of seeking explanation or inviting public officials on how the state's money is being spent and not the EFCC or the AGF. "An Order of Injunction is made retraining the 1st Defendant by itself, agent, servant, detectives, employees, staff, operatives and privies from inviting, or further inviting. arresting and or detaining past or present officials of the 1st Plaintiff (Zamfara State Government) with respect to how funds meant for security votes, estacodes and travelling allowances were expended by the 1st Plaintiff except through the House of Assembly of Zamfara State and in strict compliance with provisions of the Constitution of the Federal of Republic of Nigeria, 1999, as amended. Residents in Ondo kingdom under the aegis of Ondo Residents Political Awareness Forum (ORPAF) on Tuesday commended Governor Rotimi Akeredolu for expressing neutrality in the choice of the Speaker of 10th Assembly of the Sunshine State. The group's Coordinator, Engr. Felix Akinboboye thanked the governor who was represented by his deputy, Lucky Aiyedatiwa during the two-day induction programme organised in Owo for all the 26 lawmakers-elect of the 10th Assembly Ondo Assembly. Akinboboye said that resolve of the governor to allow members of the Assembly to freely choose their own speaker in line with their standing rules was very much commendable. He also urged both the new and returning state legislators to do the right by electing Hon. Olamide Adesanmi Oladiji (Landmark) as the next Speaker of the Assembly. "We are glad that Governor Akeredolu has come out clean that he was not interest in imposing anyone as the Speaker of the 10th Ondo Assembly. This has further made the coast a lot clearer for Hon. Landmark because he is obviously the most qualified and the choice of majority of the new and old members of the Assembly. "We are most confident now that the likelihood of using Aketi's name to perpetrate illegally and to circumvent the standing rules of the Assembly would no longer arise. All we have been clamouring for all the while is to allow what is right, fair and just in the choice of next Speaker of the 10th Assembly. Speaking further, Akinboboye described Hon. Landmark as a very competent, totally loyal and committed member of the APC. He also described the member representing Ondo East Constituency as a bridge builder and a highly experienced person in the business of law making. "The individual we have been marketing all the while is not just the natural choice to become the next Speaker of Ondo Assembly; he obviously possesses all the attributes to become first amongst the equals in Ondo Assembly. He is known to be a very successful businessman before he ventured into partisan politics". Meanwhile, Akinboboye also further stressed the need for the choice of Hon. Landmark, who is from Ondo Central to become the next Assembly Speaker in the overall interests of inclusiveness, fairness and equity. " We will continue to underscore the obvious that our amiable Governor Akeredolu is from Ondo North Senatorial District while the hardworking Deputy Governor, Lucky Aiyedatiwa is from Ondo South. It is only fair and just for the Speaker of the Assembly to come from Ondo Central. Nobody should try to package an albino as a white man for us. Hon. Landmark is the only ranking member from Ondo Central and he is arguably the most competent ranking member in the Assembly. "Our appeal once again is to all members of the Assembly to do what is right so as to be on a good side of posterity. We passionately appeal to the legislators not to rock the boat of Ondo Legislative Assembly by doing what is unbecoming. The lawmakers should endeavour to write their names in the golden sand of time by choosing Hon. Landmark Oladiji as the Speaker of the 10th Assembly", Akinboboye counselled.

A group of residents in the entire stretch of Ondo kingdom under the aegis of Ondo Residents Political Awareness Forum (ORPAF) has called for fairness, equity and justice in the choice of next Speaker of the state assembly. While addressing a press conference in Akure on Friday, the group's Coordinator, Engr. Felix Akinboboye hinged on the need for equality, fairness and compliance with the standing rules of the House in the choice of next speaker of the Assembly. Akinboboye however described Hon. Olamide Adesanmi Oladiji (Landmark) as the natural choice to become the next speaker of Ondo State House of Assembly. He said that the speakership position should in good conscience be zoned to Ondo Central if fairness and equality are to be given deserved place in the selection process. He added that Hon. Landmark is the only ranking APC member of the assembly from Ondo Central. Akinboboye therefore emphasized that there must not be any debate on who and where the next Ondo Assembly Speaker should come from. "We are shockingly surprised that there are debates now on who should be next Speaker of Ondo Assembly. It is quite clear that the speaker is expected to come from Ondo Central Senatorial District since the Governor is from Ondo North and the Deputy Governor is from Ondo South. Also, the standing rules of Ondo Assembly equally favours so strongly the selection of a ranking member. "As we can see, Hon. Landmark is representing Ondo East State Constituency and he is from Ondo Central Senatorial District. He is a ranking member and a very loyal and highly committed member of APC. He is manifestly competent and known for his high level integrity and this is in addition to being a man of good moral standing. "Landmark is also highly ranked in the hierarchy of Ondo State House of Assembly. Oladiji is a Principal Officer of the Assembly as he once served as the Majority Leader and now the Deputy Majority Leader. He also clearly possesses leadership qualities and this he had demonstrated on several instances. In all, Hon. Landmark possesses all it take to become the next Speaker of Ondo Assembly". Meanwhile, the group has also appealed to Governor Akeredolu to live up to his good character by ensuring that Ondo Central is not shortchanged in the choice of the next Speaker. Akinboboye cited instances of how Aketi had in the past resolutely fought and stood against unfair and inequitable sharing of political positions at both state and national levels. "Our passionate appeal to Governor Akeredolu is to please ensure that the right thing is done in the choice of next Speaker of Ondo Assembly. Our fearless governor recently spoke against the inequality he perceived in the zoning formula released by APC NWC for National Assembly positions. He had also made it known at several fora that Ondo South would be next in line to produce the next governor of the Sunshine State. These are a few instances of his unpretentious aversion for inequality and injustice. We know our governor as strong advocate and defender of justice, equity and fairness. "We also want to appeal to all the power players, members of Ondo State House of Assembly as well as APC leadership in the state to please ensure that the right thing is done in choosing the 10th Assembly Speaker. Care must be taken not to rock the legislative and political boat of Ondo State. Our state should not sacrifice equality, fairness and sense of belonging on the alter of political patronage. This will be divisive and badly impinge on our sense of togetherness. "The only thing that is expectedly right at this time is to zone the speakership position to Ondo Central while the standing rule of the House should also be upheld. The Governor is from Ondo North and the Speaker cannot and should not come from Ondo North at the expense of Ondo Central. The same way that the Speaker cannot come from Ondo South because the Deputy Governor is from the zone. Anyone that may be scheming to have the governor and speaker from same zone; or the Speaker and Deputy Governor from same zone should have a rethink. These characters should allow the overall interest of Ondo State to override individuals interests", Akinboboye counselled.

After the May 29 inauguration of the Nigerian President-elect, Asiwaju Bola, he is expected to announce his cabinet ministers in the month of June at things being equal. It is however believed that political search lights are already being beamed on Ondo State to spot out a ministerial nominee for the Sunshine State. Although it has been gathered several factors will be considered in determining the nominee to represent Ondo State in the next Federal Executive Council. Aside being an active and highly committed member of the All Progressive Congress (APC), other factors to consider in choosing a ministerial nominee from Ondo State may include track records of performance, age, closeness to the President-elect and the capacity to change narrative in favour of the new administration. It has however been gathered that Asiwaju is very likely to make Ondo State one of the states where he plans to strongly identify with the youths. This may then inform why age has been made one of the criteria for the would be ministerial nominee from Ondo State. The Sunshine State as gathered is also seen as one that is not in the stranglehold of any politician. Although Governor Akeredolu is seen as the natural leader of APC in Ondo State; however, past experiences and the present face-off between Aketi and NWC of APC on the party's choice for National Assembly leadership may have foreclose the chances of appointing the governor' preferred choice. Also, the robust and long term relationship of certain Ondo State indigenes with Asiwaju Tinubu is equally being leveraged upon to give the Sunshine State the slot of a senior minister in the new political dispensation. The argument has always been that Ondo State has consistently been an APC state is only considered good enough to fill the slot of a 'junior minister'. Meanwhile, in the light of factors to be considered to fill the ministerial slot of Ondo State, some individuals have been been deemed qualified and suitable to represent the Sunshine State in the new Federal Executive Council. Olusola Alexander Oke, SAN The Senior Advocate of Nigeria is truly desirous of the ministerial slot of Ondo State as it is believed that he intends to use same as a springboard to actualize his unhidden governorship ambition. It is also believed that Oke intends to take after the duo of late Dr. Olusegun Agagu and Dr Olusegun Mimiko that both leveraged on their ministerial offices to become the governors of Ondo State. The 67-year-old Olusola Oke is indeed qualified to represent the Sunshine State as a minister in view of his political antecedents and professional accomplishments. He got elected in 1992 to represent Ilaje/Ese-odo federal constituency of Ondo State. He was appointed as a pioneer board member of the Niger Delta Development Commission (NDDC) in 2000. On account of his achievements and experience as NDDC federal commissioner, he was again appointed as the Executive Chairman of Ondo State Oil Producing Areas Development Commission (OSOPADEC) in 2004. Olusola Oke was in 2005 nominated and he served in the National Political Reform Conference. He again served as a member of the Presidential Technical Committee on Niger Delta in 2007. He had also served in 2009 as the Chairman of Federal Polytechnic Bida before being appointed yet again as the Chairman of National Steel Raw Materials Exploration Agency from 2009 to 2011. Chief Oke contested but lost in his first bid to occupy the governorship seat of Ondo State on the platform of PDP in 2012. He again vied for the governorship position of the Sunshine State on the platform of All Progressive Congress (APC) in 2016 but disputably lost the primaries; albeit narrowly to the incumbent Governor Oluwarotimi Akeredolu. The displeased Olusola Oke decamped to the Alliance for Democracy (AD) on account of his displeasure with the outcome of APC primaries. The man has since returned to the APC and he is hoping to pick up the ministerial slot of Ondo State. Lucky Orimisan Aiyedatiwa The 58-year-old Lucky Aiyedatiwa is the Deputy Governor of Ondo State and he is unpretentious of his desire to succeed his boss, Governor Akeredolu. Before his election as Ondo State Deputy Governor, he had earlier served as a Commissioner on the board of the Niger Delta Development Commission (NDDC). It may be surprising that the the Master's Degree holder in Business Administration (MBA) from the University of Liverpool could still nurse ministerial ambition instead of the widely believed governorship aspiration. The businessman turned politician is after all hoping to use the office of minister as a major springboard to realize his governorship ambition. Judging by all parameters, Aiyedatiwa is qualified to take up the ministerial slot of Ondo State having being in office as a Deputy Governor since February 25, 2021 when he and his boss were sworn in. The Obe-Nla born Aiyedatiwa has been carrying himself with candor and sense of responsibilities expected from a deputy governor. The man has also not fallen short of admirable discharge of his official responsibilities in his capacity as a deputy governor and anytime he acted as the Acting Governor of Ondo State. Orimisan had earlier been nominated one of the national delegates from Ondo State at the Abuja national convention of the APC in 2014. Earlier in 2015, he had contested to represent the people of Ilaje/Ese-Odo federal constituency. As a Federal Commissioner, he represented Ondo State on the board of Niger Delta Development Commission (NDDC) from 2018 to 2019. Hon. Tajudeen Adeyemi Adefisoye Tajudeen Adeyemi Adefisoye is popularly known across the country as Small Alhaji. He is a grassroots mobilizer and he enjoys large support of the youths in his federal constituency and state at large. The Idanre born politician is still very young and he may just fit into Asiwaju's plan to accommodate youths in his administration. The young man had surprisingly at age of 34 contested and won House of Representatives seat in 2019. He did achieve this feat by defeating some political heavy weights. Small Alhaji is the outgoing member representing Idanre/Ifedore Federal Constituency of Ondo State in the House of Representatives. Although he lost his bid to become a ranking member of the House of Representatives due to conspiratorial gang-up against him by certain leaders in his political party, APC. It was rumored that some leaders in the Idanre chapter of APC became uncomfortable with his meteoric rise in politics and chose to work against him in the last election so as to curtail his speedy and steady political rise. He is the Deputy Chairman, House of Representatives Committee on Army. It on record however that he, alongside the Chairman of House Committee on Army achieved marked improvement in the welfare on Nigerian Army personnel. Transformative measures have also been put in place in the Nigerian Army through the ingenious efforts of Army Committee which has Tajudeen Adefisoye deputy chairman. Impacts of the excellent legislative oversight duties by Small Alhaji in the Army can be directly linked to the obviously improved and clinically professional output by Nigerian soldiers in the last four years. The 38-year-old graduate of Business Administration from the University of Ekiti State is also known to have performed excellently well as a federal legislator. A number of his constituents also give him deserved credit for his transformative representation as well as his numerous projects and welfare intervention programmes. However, it is still very much unknown whether the young legislator enjoys good relationship with the new set of power brokers. Hon. Prince Ademola Adegoroye The Akure Prince is a member of the recently dissolved Federal Executive Council. Adegoroye served as the Minister of State for Transport. He was able to make his mark within 10 months of being in office. Prince Ademola is believed to be highly instrumental to the approved licence for Ondo Multipurpose Port. He is definitely still very popular amongst the people of Akure and Ondo State at large for his undeniable landmark impact while in office as a minister. The lawyer and former member of Ondo State House of Assembly is also believed to have played a crucial role in the award of Akure-Ikere federal road that has become impassable. Recently, the minister deemed it necessary to pay a 'thank you' visit to the Minister of Work and Housing, Babatunde Fashola over the award of Akure-Ikere road. Moreso, Adegoroye who only last year contested and lost the APC primary election in his bid to secure the party's ticket for Akure North/Akure South Federal Constituency. He however quickly rose above the defeat and positioned himself for a higher responsibility. He has also done well with the facilitation of federal employments for some of his constituents. It is not in any way hidden that Ademola Adegoroye is very much desirous of returning to the Federal Executive Council and he is largely banking on Governor Akeredolu to once again pull the string for him. Meanwhile, it has also been gathered that a former Secretary to Ondo State Government, Ifedayo Abegunde popularly known as Abena is equally interested in the ministerial slot of Ondo State. Also, Ondo State Commissioner for Finance and a front line governorship aspirant on the platform of APC is equally interested in the slot. Same thing goes for the member of the House of Representatives who has won a re-election to represent Akoko North East/Akoko North West Federal Constituency of Ondo State, Hon. Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo. He is definitely a super performing legislator and the Chairman of House Committee on NDDC. The young and cerebral Tunji-Ojo is also keenly watching, monitoring and gauging the situation of Ondo State ministerial slot.

The Supreme Court has cautioned Nigeria's anti-graft agencies against harassing officials and associates of the Kogi State Government pending the determination of a suit instituted by the Attorney General of Kogi State against the Attorney General of the Federation challenging the constitutionality of Acts establishing some anti-graft agencies, including the Proceed of Crime Protection and Prevention Act 2022, and their applicability to the state. The Acts mentioned in the Originating Summons include those establishing the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission, and the Nigerian Financial Intelligence Unit. When the matter came up before the full panel of the Supreme Court on Tuesday (today), May 23, 2023, Counsel to the Attorney General of Kogi State, Abdulwahab Muhammed, SAN, drew the attention of the Court to the continued harassment and even arraignment of associates of Kogi State Government in various Courts despite the pendency of the Suit that was filed in February, 2023. Chief A.A. Adeniyi, SAN, also represented the plaintiff (Kogi State AG). However, Counsel to the Attorney-General of the Federation, T.A. Ghazali, SAN, who was in Court, strangely claimed not to have been served the Originating Process. The full panel of the Court, led by Hon. Justice Amina Augie, in reaction to the concerns raised by Counsel to the plaintiff (Kogi AG), was unequivocal in making it clear to all parties that once a dispute had been submitted to the Court, and in this case, the apex Court of the land, all persons and authorities in Nigeria are expected to stay further action and await the outcome of the suit. The Court therefore advised parties to stay further action on the subject of litigation pending the outcome of the suit and adjourned the hearing of the substantive originating Summons to October 10, 2023. The Attorney General Of Kogi State had, in February, 2023, in Suit No. SC/178/ 2023, approached the Supreme Court vide an originating Summons to invoke the original jurisdiction of the Supreme Court to determine the Constitutionality of the EFCC Act, the ICPC Act, the NFIU Act, the Proceed of Crime (Prevention and Management Act) 2022. He contended that, going by the pronouncement of the Supreme Court of Nigeria in the case of Joseph Nwobike V.FRN to the effect that the United Nation Convention Against Corruption is the precursor to the EFCC, NFIU, ICPC and Proceed of Crime (Prevention and Protection) Act, and that these laws, having not been enacted in consonance with Section 12 of the 1999 Constitution (as amended), are unconstitutional and have no applicability whatsoever to Kogi State under whatever guise.

Kogi State Governor, Yahaya Bello, on Monday, received hundreds of former members of the People's Democratic Party from Igalamela/Odolu Local Government Area, who have joined the All Progressives Congress (APC) and pledged their support for the APC gubernatorial candidate, Usman Ododo, in the upcoming governorship election scheduled to hold in November. Led by former caretaker Chairman of Igalamela Local Government Area, Abdullahi Ibrahim, and other party leaders, including Adama Sani and Aikoye Anu, the defectors, from Ajaka Ward 1 and 2, said they were convinced that APC would win with a wide margin in the next elections. Governor Bello expressed his appreciation to the defectors for recognising the achievements of his administration and for choosing to join the APC. He emphasised that the APC, being a progressive party, would welcome all individuals who were willing to contribute to the development of the state, assuring the former PDP members that they would have equal rights and opportunities within the APC, just like the existing members. Speaking on behalf of the defectors, Abdullahi Ibrahim explained that their decision to join the APC was based on the remarkable achievements of the current administration, which had positively impacted all local government areas in Kogi State. He specifically highlighted the rehabilitation of the Umomi-Akpagidigbo-Ugwolawo-Ajaka-Idah road, a significant infrastructure project in Igalamela, as a key reason for their support for Governor Bello and his party. Abdullahi further mentioned that Governor Bello's accomplishments had led to an influx of opposition party members joining the APC, and they were determined not to be left behind. Abdullahi expressed their readiness to work towards securing victory for the APC in the upcoming governorship election. He praised Governor Bello and the APC for endorsing Ododo as their candidate, noting that Ododo's seven years of experience working with the current administration, coupled with his compassionate nature, made him the right candidate to sustain the developmental progress achieved by the present government.

Ondo State and Ekiti State, both located in southwestern Nigeria, share a close political and economic relationship. Historically, Ekiti State was carved out of the old Ondo State in 1996, leading to the establishment of two separate state governments with distinct administrative structures. The political and economic relationship between Ondo State and Ekiti State in Nigeria has been characterized by mutual benefit and collaboration. Ekiti indigenes in Ondo State have made positive contributions to the state's economy, cultural diversity, and community development. Their active participation and involvement have strengthened the bond between the two states, fostering growth and prosperity for the southwest region. The approval of the Ondo Deep Sea Port, the development of the Ekiti Knowledge Zone (EKZ), and the establishment of the Ekiti International Agro Cargo Airport mark significant milestones in the economic transformation of Southwest Nigeria. These projects, driven by the visionary leadership of the governments of Ondo and Ekiti states, in collaboration with the Federal Government, have the potential to unlock immense economic prosperity and positive implications for the region. This piece explores the importance of these initiatives and highlights the benefits they bring to the owner states, as well as the collective positive implications for Ondo State, Ekiti State, and the entire Southwest region. I appreciate the visionary leadership of Governor Arakunrin Rotimi Odunayo Akeredolu of Ondo State and former Governor Dr. John Kayode Fayemi of Ekiti State for their instrumental roles in the development of three significant projects. I would also like to acknowledge the efforts of His Excellency Biodun Abayomi Oyebanji present governor of Ekiti State, who has continued to drive progress in the state. Furthermore, I commend the efforts of first civilian governor of Ekiti-state/incumbent minister of Industry, Trade and Investment Otunba Richard Adeniyi Adebayo, a former governor of Ekiti State, and the Honourable Minister of Transportation (State) Prince Ademola Adegoroye from Ondo State for their valuable representation and their role in obtaining the federal government's support for these projects. The Ondo Deep Sea Port: A Gateway to Economic Growth The approval of the Ondo Deep Sea Port by the Federal Government is a cause for celebration. This strategic infrastructure project will serve as a conduit for goods and agricultural produce, boosting trade and commerce in Ondo State. With the potential to handle large cargo vessels, the port will facilitate import-export activities, attract investments, and create employment opportunities. Additionally, the port's proximity to the state's bitumen reserves positions Ondo as a significant player in the global bitumen market. By maximising the potential of the Ondo Deep Sea Port, the state government aims to propel Ondo State towards sustained economic prosperity and unleash its true potential. Ekiti Knowledge Zone: Fostering Innovation and Collaboration The Ekiti Knowledge Zone (EKZ) is a visionary project that leverages Ekiti State's comparative advantage to create a vibrant ecosystem of innovative businesses. This world-class knowledge park aims to foster collaboration, technology transfer, and research and development. With its strategic location, close proximity to Lagos and Abuja, and renowned educational institutions, EKZ is poised to attract domestic and international investments in various sectors, including ICT, software development, skills development, and commercial services support. The development of EKZ as a public-private partnership underscores the commitment of the Ekiti State Government to drive economic growth, create jobs, and ensure inclusive socio-economic development for its citizens. Ekiti International Agro Cargo Airport: Enhancing Connectivity and Trade The establishment of the Ekiti International Agro Cargo Airport further strengthens Ekiti State's position as a hub for trade, agriculture, and tourism. This critical component of the state's broader strategy complements the EKZ and other developmental initiatives. The cargo airport, with its modern facilities and strategic location, will facilitate the export of agricultural products, attract agro-processing industries, and enhance connectivity within the region and beyond. By capitalising on its advantageous position, Ekiti State aims to become a destination of choice for investors, entrepreneurs, and tourists, creating a ripple effect of economic growth and job opportunities. Synergy and Positive Implications for Ondo, Ekiti, and Southwest Nigeria The synchronised development of the Ondo Deep Sea Port, EKZ, and Ekiti International Agro Cargo Airport establishes a strong foundation for regional integration and economic advancement in Southwest Nigeria. By leveraging the existing economic prowess of Lagos and complementing its myriad developments, these projects foster a synergistic ecosystem that enhances the region's competitiveness and attractiveness for investment. The seamless connectivity among these key infrastructures strengthens the economic ties between Ondo State and Ekiti State, leading to mutual benefits, knowledge sharing, and increased trade activities. Moreover, the Southwest region as a whole stands to gain from the multiplier effect of enhanced trade routes, improved logistics, job creation, and a surge in economic activities. Economic Growth and Job Creation: These projects contribute to economic growth by attracting investments, promoting industrialisation, and creating job opportunities. The Ondo Deep Sea Port facilitates international trade, encouraging businesses to establish operations in the region and boosting employment in various sectors, including logistics, manufacturing, and services. The Ekiti Knowledge Zone serves as a hub for innovation and technology-driven industries, attracting businesses and creating high-skilled job opportunities. The Ekiti International Agro Cargo Airport supports the agricultural sector by improving the transportation of agricultural products, leading to increased agricultural productivity and employment opportunities. Infrastructure Development: The implementation of these projects involves the development of critical infrastructure, including transportation networks, industrial facilities, research centres, and educational institutions. This infrastructure not only supports the specific projects but also contributes to the overall development of Ondo State and Ekiti State. It enhances connectivity, facilitates trade and investment, improves access to markets, and creates an enabling environment for economic activities. Regional Development and Integration: The synergy of these projects extends beyond Ondo State and Ekiti State, benefiting the entire Southwest region and promoting regional integration. The Ondo Deep Sea Port provides a vital maritime gateway, enhancing trade links within the region and connecting Southwest Nigeria to global markets. The Ekiti Knowledge Zone acts as a knowledge and innovation hub, attracting talent, businesses, and investment from neighbouring states and beyond. The Ekiti International Agro Cargo Airport supports agricultural trade and connectivity, benefiting farmers, agribusinesses, and consumers across the region. Revenue Generation: These projects have the potential to generate substantial revenue for the states and the region as a whole. Increased trade activities, investments, and economic growth lead to higher tax revenues for the state governments, which can be utilised for further development initiatives, public services, and social welfare programmes. The projects also create opportunities for revenue generation through fees, tariffs, and other commercial activities associated with port operations, knowledge-based industries, and cargo handling at the airport. Social and Human Development: The projects contribute to social and human development by promoting education, skills development, and knowledge transfer. Former Presidential candidate, Rev Chris Okotie, has urged the Inspector General of Police,Alkali Baba, to show mercy upon Afrobeat star,Seun Kuti over his case with the Police. The outspoken musician is in detention for slapping a Police man during an encounter in traffic recently. The matter has raised an uproar across the country. In a press statement issued in Lagos yesterday, and signed by his media adviser, Ladi Ayodeji, Rev Okotie made a case for amnesty for the embattled music star. Below is the full statement: "I would like to urge the Inspector-General of Police (IGP) to demonstrate a paternal clemency towards Seun Kuti in his transgression against an authorised myrmidon of the law. "Anti-establishment is not acceptable under any guise, however, a humane superintendence is a mark of a great leadership. "The youth have been under tremendous pressure to establish a new Nigerian social order and Seun’s abrasive conduct is a tangent from that trajectory. "I plead earnestly with the IGP to temper justice with mercy and exculpate Seun of all charges. Femi and Seun Kuti are artistic souvenirs bestowed upon us by the legendary Fela Anikulapo-Kuti and we truly appreciate the creative artistry demonstrated in their musical genre. "Please find sufficient grace in your heart to anesthesize the gravity of this provocation. "May the blessing of the God of heaven be vouchsafed to you in the plenitude of His Grace." Okotie's message came in the wake of the court's extension of Seun's detention by four days.

Hon. Tajudeen Adefisoye, popularly known as Small Alhaji is the outgoing member representing Idanre/Ifedore federal constituency of Ondo State in the Nigerian House of Representatives. He opens up for the very first time on his shocking loss in the February 2023 National Assembly election. He also speaks on his expectations of Bola Tinubu’s government after his inauguration and on other national issues. Did you see it coming that you would lose your bid to become a ranking member of the House of Representatives? I didn’t see it coming. In fact, I never thought that I could lose the election. The result came as a surprise to so many people. I truly rated myself before the election based on my legislative performance, high level of dedication to my constituency and unprecedented projects that I brought to my constituency. Going by the judgment of people in my constituency, I am obviously the best MHR in the legislative history of the constituency. I won my primary election based on this record of performance and I was willing to work with everybody during the main election. Although I knew I would have a big problem the day I decamped to the APC because majority of the youths in my constituency were not so happy with the decision. They had preferred that we remain in the SDP that brought us to office. Nevertheless, I made frantic efforts to explain what necessitated the decision to them but I could perceive that this decision still did not go down well with a majority of my youthful followers. We had a rally two days before the election and with that crowd alone, I honestly felt that I was good to go. Surprisingly, everything changed on election day when you could even see our party agents working against me. Most of the APC party agents worked for the PDP on the election day. Painful enough, the security agents too were all out against us. Sincerely, I still couldn’t fathom what really transpired on the eve of the election that I could only term with on the day of the election. Painfully too, APC leaders in Idanre Local Government just decided not to work for me. They shockingly sold me out after I had handed over my entire election structure to them. They simply told all my groups to collapse under the party and stay loyal to the party. All my groups did as instructed by the APC leaders in Idanre, but we all realised too late that the leaders had already compromised heavily by selling out to the PDP. What could you basically describe as the factors responsible for your unaccomplished reelection bid despite your obvious sterling performance? People said they were angry because I took their mandate to APC. I also heard that stakeholders too were angry because I didn’t let soldiers leave Idanre when they nearly killed some APC stakeholders during the last local government election in Ondo State. More so, people and leaders that were naturally expected to work for me in Idanre Local Government resorted to unconscionable anti-party activities before the election and also on the day of the election. I know that the majority of the people weren’t happy after I decamped from SDP to APC. This was after APC members had earlier attacked members of the SDP during the Local Government election. Some of these aggrieved SDP members and supporters simply bottled up their anger until the day of the election. I guess that this was also one of the reasons for the loss in Idanre. I won the other local government massively and I must give kudos to the leaders of Ifedore Local Government. Although a few of them engaged in anti-party too a large majority supported me. What are your expectations of the incoming government of Asiwaju Bola Tinubu? You know I seriously campaigned both online and offline for Asiwaju because I so much believe in him. If you go and check my campaign videos, pictures and even my social media pages; you will see that I so much believed in Jagaban. I said it then that Asiwaju is coming to give us the much-needed and obviously developmental template that will serve as a good guide to successive governments. As a matter of fact, this is where the Nigerian journey to true and lasting development will begin. We are very much in need of political and developmental direction in Nigeria and this is what Asiwaju has come to offer. We really don’t have a clear-cut direction since the return of democracy in 1999. Past presidents were more particular about the title of the president rather than giving deserved attention to the real issue of long-lasting development. I am totally convinced that Asiwaju means business. He is certain to make things right and we will see a lot of developmental changes under him and I am glad Nigerians will want him to continue automatically after his first four years. You can go and check Twitter and see how I was so much abused on account of pitching my tent with Asiwaju. I am the most abused lawmaker on social media because of my support for Asiwaju Bola Tinubu. I was even blackmailed at a point that I said anyone that refused to vote for Asiwaju must be a bastard. The level of abuse at the time was quite intense but I know that the majority of the people who abused me then will still apologize by the time they begin to see true development from the government of Bola Tinubu. What do you think the incoming administration of Bola Tinubu should do to genuinely gain the support of Nigerian youths? Interestingly, Asiwaju has started winning the youths to his side. If you check the Transition Committee, you will see that most people on the list are youths. The President-elect is already giving lots of responsibilities to the youth and that is a good one. He has promised to start the student loan which is also a good one. I am very confident that Asiwaju will appoint a lot of youths into major positions by the time his government starts. He needs to listen more to the people from the grassroots to get first-hand information and not filtered ones if he wants to readily gain the support of the youths. I am of the opinion that Asiwaju needs to work with result-driven youths that also share his vision on good governance, innovative leadership and how best to empower the Nigerian youths. I am very sure that this will definitely take a whole lot of burden off him. Who would you have supported to become the next speaker of the 10th National Assembly if you had been reelected? I am a party man and will continue to remain a completely loyal party person. I am not unmindful of the fact that the interest of a party always supersedes that of the members. On the basis of this, I would have gone in the direction of the APC party. This means that anybody that is endorsed by the APC national leadership would have automatically been my own candidate too. Are you done with partisan politics and what’s your next political plan if your answer is on the contrary? Done with politics? This question is funny I must confess. I am just 38 years old and I have a lot of legacy projects within and outside of my constituency. I have leveraged on the vehicle of politics to touch and transform lives. I couldn’t have done all these on a wider scale without the vehicle of politics. I am still very much in politics and I know that better and bigger responsibilities are awaiting me and I hope to continue contributing to the development of my state and Nigeria as a whole. I will still be 38 at the completion of my tenure as a member Federal House of Representatives. At this age, I still have the energy and zeal needed for optimal delivery of responsibilities. I have obviously performed very wonderfully as a federal lawmaker and it was this same outstanding performance that got me the award of African Lawmaker of the Year in 2020. This temporary setback happened because people of the grassroots were only angry that I left them for a bigger party. We will address them when it is time and I know they will soon be happy that I joined the APC by the time they begin to see the developmental agenda of Asiwaju for Nigeria. I can confidently tell you that I am still a big factor in the politics of my constituency and Ondo State at large. I am obviously good to go. I have the experience and the intelligence to serve anywhere. We have in the last four years brought a lot of positive changes to.

"I have learnt from the best. I am still learning from him. I have seen my boss, Alh. Yahaya Bello forgo personal comfort just to ensure Kogi is great. I have seen him skip sleep to ensure the state is safe. I have seen him create a conducive environmental for industrialisation to thrive. I have seen his commitment to the progress and prosperity of our dear state. I cannot afford to fail his confidence and trust in me. "I have come to see you today because you are one of the reasons Nigerians respect Kogi State. Your experience and expertise will guide us to do well. "We have a blueprint and development plan. I will continue to ensure we implement the plan to the benefit of Kogites. I want to assure you that we will make you proud of our achievements," he said. Ayeni said, "Let me commend you for saying the election won't be a do or die affair. No election is worth the blood of any Kogite. I will hold you to your words. "Go about your campaign peacefully and win the trust of the people. When you win, make sure you focus on development. What we are interested in is the development of our dear state." In his remarks, the former Commissioner for Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs and also the runner up in the APC Governorship primary, Deedat Ozigi, thanked Ayeni for his contributions to the development of Kogi State and Nigeria. Also, the Kogi State Commissioner for Information and Communications, Kingsley Fanwo, described Ayeni as a "detribalised giant whose wealth of experience would help shape the Ododo Administration from January 2024. He thanked the Finance and Power guru for aligning with the "only trusted agenda to develop Kogi State". "You are a great Nigerian who doesn't believe in division. We will continue to respect you as our leader and one of Kogi's best exports to the world," he said, calling on him to support the party's candidate. "Some people are born humble, some learn humility while some are humbled by circumstances. Alh. Usman Ododo is born humble and he will listen to eminent Kogites in leading the state," Fanwo said. Other members of the entourage are Hon. Bashir Mohammed Gegu and Prince Bashir Abubakar Audu, son of the late strongman of Kogi politics, Prince Abubakar Audu.

.... commends Governor Bello over hitch-free primaries The Minister of State for the Federal Capital Territory, Ramatu Tijjani Aliyu, has thrown her weight behind the candidature of the All Progressives Congress Governorship candidate in the State, Usman Ododo, saying his emergence was a reflection of the "excellent leadership of Governor Yahaya Bello". The minister, who said this on Monday while receiving the Governorship candidate of the party and his entourage in Abuja, expressed confidence that the APC would win the November 11 governorship election "resoundingly". She said, "Let me congratulate you on your emergence as the candidate of our party. Your success at the primary is a triumph of loyalty. Never stop being who you are. "I was initially worried about the number of aspirants in the race. But the manner the Governor went about providing excellent leadership made the primary hitch-free and successful. "For me, party is supreme and no matter our contentions, the moment the party makes a choice, I will ordinarily follow. I was the first National Woman Leader of our great party. I understand the supremacy of party decision. We will support Alh. Ododo to win and also support him to do well." The FCT Minister of State called on all aspirants to continue to support the choice of the party, insisting that Kogi is very important to the APC. According to her, it is important that the Governor is succeeded by a visionary leader who will consolidate on his achievements. Ododo thanked the Minister for her support to the party at the last general elections, assuring her that his candidacy was to deepen the gains of the GYB years. Ododo told the Minister that if elected, his administration would focus on the thematic areas of the present administration in the state. Ododo, who emerged the Kogi APC governorship candidate through a direct primary election on April 14 and was ratified through a special Congress of the party on April 15, was presented to Tinubu by Governor Yahaya Bello in Abuja. Governor Yahaya Bello had also expressed delight in the capacity of the APC candidate to deliver even more wins for the party in the state and assured kogi residents of continuity in the infrastructure renewal master-plan, which his administration had embarked upon for more than seven years. He reiterated that the APC in Kogi State was one united family, noting that the party was very well positioned to win the next governorship election, landslide. |
A Kogi State High Court sitting in Lokoja, the state capital, has ordered the Federal Government to desist from proceeding with the concession of the Ajaokuta Steel Company Limited (ASCL) and the National Iron Ore Mining Company (NIOMCO) at Itakpe. The court also barred the government from conducting its planned virtual pre-qualification conference interview slated for May 4, 2023, pending the hearing and determination of the Motion on Notice. The Federal Government had commenced concession process for the two companies which are located in Kogi State, and had placed an advertisement to that effect. However, the Attorney General of Kogi State, on behalf of the government and people of the state, approached the court with a suit marked HCL/211M/2023 and sought for enrolment order of the court stopping the government from continuing with the concession process. While the Attorney General of Kogi State is the Claimant/Applicant, the Attorney General of the Federation, Ministry of Mines and Steel Development, Infrastructure Concession Regulatory Commission (ICRC), Bureau of Public Enterprises (BPE), Ajaokuta Steel Company Limited (ASCL) and National Iron Ore Mining Company (NIOMCO) are the Defendants/Respondents in the motion numbered 211M/2003 and brought pursuant to Order 11, Rules 7 of the Kogi State High Court (Civil Procedure Rules) 2006. Leading seven other lawyers, M. Y. Abdullahi, SAN, Applicant's Counsel, drew the attention of the court to the affidavit of urgency deposed to in the application while seeking the enrolment order. The two orders prayed by the Kogi State Attorney General included: “An order for interim injunction restraining the Defendants/Respondents, their agents, representatives, officials and whosoever acting for them, or through them, or on their behalf, from proceeding with the concession of the Ajaokuta Steel Company Limited (ASCL) and the National Iron Ore Mining Company (NIOMCO) and or from doing anything whatsoever connected or incidental thereto, pending the hearing and determination of the Motion on Notice. "An order for interim injunction restraining the Defendants/Respondents from carrying out any of the itemized functions/activities as contained in their publication, 'Request for the Qualification for the Concession of the National Iron Ore Mining Company Solicited PPP Process' and 'Request for Qualification for the Concession of Ajaokuta Steel Company Limited Solicited PPP Process' published on Friday, 21st April, 2023 in the Daily Trust Newspaper of Friday, 21st April, 2023” to wit: Submission of Request for Qualification (RFQ), Submission of Request for Proposal (RFP), virtual pre-application conference interview slated for May 4th, 2023; pending the hearing and determination of the Motion on Notice." Delivering his ruling, Hon. Justice Josiah Majebi, the Chief Judge of the state and presiding judge of the High Court 1, found substance in the motion and granted the two prayers of the applicant. He said the affidavit of urgency deposed to by the claimant clearly established that he “has a prima facie case on a claim of right to the 5th and 6th defendants (ASCL and NIOMCO) and that except the court intervenes at this stage to prevent the defendants from proceeding with their plan on concession of the companies, their action will foist a state of helplessness and hopelessness.” He said it would also lead to the “loss of his (Applicant’s) cause of action leading to his right and interest extinguished completely (and) that the defendants would have completed the process of the concession in less than 30 days which is before the period of 30 days allowed by the rule of court for the defendants to file their defence.” Consequently, Majebi ruled: “In the circumstance, I hold that the grant of order of interim injunction is appropriate and necessary to preserve the rest in this case as a matter of urgency and to prevent a situation of irreparable damage to the applicant as one having interest in the 5th and 6th defendants pending the determination of the motion on notice.” The orders given by Majebi on Thursday, April 27, 2023, against the six defendants read in full, "It is ordered as follows: The Defendants/Respondents, their agents, representatives, officials and whosoever acting for them, or through them, or on their behalf, are hereby restrained from proceeding with the concession of the Ajaokuta Steel Company Limited (ASCL) and the National Iron Ore Mining Company (NIOMCO) and or from doing anything whatsever connected or incidental thereto, pending the hearing and determination of the Motion on Notice. "The Defendants/Respondents are hereby restrained from carrying out any of the itemized functions/activities as contained in their publication, 'Request for the Qualification for the Concession of the National Iron Ore Mining Company Solicited PPP Process' and 'Request for Qualification for the Concession of Ajaokuta Steel Company Limited Solicited PPP Process' published on Friday, 21st April, 2023 in the Daily Trust Newspaper of Friday, 21st April, 2023' to wit: Submission of Request for Qualification (RFQ), Submission of Request for Proposal (RFP), virtual pre-application conference interview slated for May 4th, 2023; pending the hearing and determination of the Motion on Notice.
