Lawyers and Activists from Kogi State have raised the alarm over what they described as a clandestine move by the Social Democratic Party and its Governorship candidate to file their petition against the outcome of the November 11 election through the backdoor and backdate same to circumvent the provisions of the Electoral Act.

The lawyers, under the aegis of the United Front for Democracy, raised the alarm following the closure of the window allowed for the filing of electoral petition with all allegations and petition relating to the petition front-loaded, in line with Section 134 of the Electoral Act.

They spoke at a press conference in Lokoja, on Monday.

Convener, United Front for Democracy, Barr. Yetunde Olubunmi Shaibu, who spoke on behalf of the activists, said they had credible intelligence that the SDP candidate had yet to file his petition against the winner of the election, Usman Ododo of the All Progressives Congress, 22 days after the declaration of results.

The Activists noted that the 21 days window elapsed at the midnight of December 3, 2023, saying, "Section 134 of the Electoral Act is very clear as to when an electoral petition can be filed with all allegations and evidence relating to the petition front-loaded. By virtue of Section 134 of the Electoral Act, the SDP has failed to file their petition within the period allowed by Law and should therefore be made not to waste the time of the Honourable Panel."

They, however, alleged that they had been credibly briefed that the SDP and its candidate were still preparing their petition with the intention of filing same within the week and having it backdated so as to make it look like it was filed within the legally stipulated duration.

"This must not be allowed to happen in the spirit of justice, equity and fairness," the lawyers said.

They, therefore, called on the Election Petition Tribunal for the Kogi State Governorship Poll to "switch on its lights to fish out staff members who have been contracted to mess up with the integrity of our highly respected judiciary. We are watching and the world is watching to ensure the right thing is done."

Barr. Shaibu stated, "As a Civil Society Organization, the United Front for Democracy is non-partisan. Our commitment is to protect democratic values and ensure that our judiciary is not slaughtered on the slab of political desperation and corruption.

"Our organisation has credible intelligence that the candidate of the Social Democratic Party (SDP) is yet to file his petition against the winner of the election, Alh. Ahmed Usman Ododo , 22 days after the declaration of results. The results of the election were declared on Sunday, 12th November, 2023. The 21 days window elapsed at the midnight of December 3, 2023. Section 134 of the Electoral Act is very clear as to when an electoral petition can be filed with all allegations and evidence relating to the petition front-loaded. By virtue of Section 134 of the Electoral Act, the SDP has failed to file their petition within the period allowed by Law and should therefore be made not to waste the time of the Honourable Panel.

"The wisdom of the Electoral Act is that anyone with credible evidence should be able to put such forward within the legally stipulated period. We are however disappointed that the SDP is about to lose the opportunity to test the law with a competent petition. The People’s Democratic Party (PDP) and the African Democratic Congress (ADC) opted to avoid the embarrassment of searching in futility for evidence by deciding not to challenge the election at the tribunal.

"Inasmuch as we would want to leave the determination of the validity of a petition filed out of time to the Honourable Panel to determine, we owe the populace a social and legal responsibility to expose a clandestine move by the SDP and its candidate to file their petition through the backdoor and backdate same to circumvent the provisions of the Electoral Act."

"As a Civil Society Organization, our wish was to see elections challenged, but in a proper way that satisfies the requirements of administrative, judicial and legal procedures. Anything short of that will lead to a dangerous compromise and will be challenged with incontrovertible facts and evidence," the lawyers/activists noted.

They also condemned the attack on the residence of the Resident Electoral Commissioner in charge of Kogi State, saying, "It is a dangerous trend that must not be allowed to stand. Those who superintend over our elections must be allowed to do their job without harassment or intimidation.

"Democracy must be protected by all as it remains the best form of Government to guarantee freedom and prosperity."

The Kogi State All Progressives Congress Governorship Campaign Council has called on the Police, Department of State Services and other security agencies to immediately curb what it described as the slide to anarchy in the state.

The Council called for the arrest the Governorship candidate of the Social Democratic Party, Muritala Yakubu Ajaka, and his supporters who allegedly masterminded the attack on the residence of the Resident Electoral Commissioner in the state in the early hours of Friday.

The APC Campaign Council said the attack was perpetrated days after it alerted the nation of the plans of SDP thugs to attack INEC, adding that "they have finally done their worst by attacking the residence of the Kogi State INEC Commissioner, engaging security agents in a fierce gun battle and eventually burning down some vehicles in the residence and in the area."

The Director of Media and Publicity/Spokesperson for the Campaign Council, Kingsley Fanwo, who spoke at an emergency press briefing on Friday, said, "The same arsonists also had an attempt to burn down the Kogi State Government House foiled by our eagle-eye security agents. The same attempt was foiled at the State APC Secretariat in Lokoja."

According to the APC, the SDP in the state and their collaborators are desperate to destroy some documents in INEC to cover the heist they committed in Kogi East where they allegedly killed APC supporters "and drove them out of collation centres to forge the results that were eventually trumped by the massive votes of Kogites for the Governor-Elect."

The Campaign Council alleged that the SDP candidate and his collaborators were attempting to corrupt certain documents in INEC before handing them to their legal team.

"We have no problem allowing legal teams to access documents and materials. It is the norm. But we won't allow any desperate blood thirsty politician tamper with the true verdict of the Kogi people," Fanwo declared.

He noted that "the bold-face criminality being perpetrated by the defeated SDP candidate and his violent gang of criminals was as a result of the lack of consequences over the gruesome killing of an APC supporter, Khadijat, at Kotonkarfe by agents of the SDP," adding that they had imported thugs from neighbouring states into Kogi.

"They shamelessly came out to say Khadijat was bearing an arm. Till date, Muritala Yakubu Ajaka and his gun welding killers have been moving freely on the streets. If they had been arrested for killing an innocent woman, they wouldn't have had the gut to attempt to attack the Kogi Resident Electoral Commissioner," he stressed.

The Campaign Spokesperson stated, "We also told the world of plans by the SDP to burn down the INEC Office in Lokoja. We thank the Police and other security agencies for protecting the INEC Office. Frustrated by the watertight security around INEC, the gun throttling SDP criminals went to the residence of the Kogi State INEC Commissioner in an attempt to kill him. They were engaged in a fierce gun battle and they resorted to burning vehicles and other valuables around the area.

"The reason they are desperate to destroy some documents in INEC is to cover the heist they committed in Kogi East where they killed APC supporters and drove them out of collation centres to forge the results that were eventually trumped by the massive votes of Kogites for the Governor-Elect. "After their violent protests a few days ago, our people have also moved to Lokoja to ensure their mandate is protected. Resorting to assassination and arson will never help the Social Democratic Party and their confused candidate.

"Now is the time to arrest Muritala Yakubu Ajaka before he throws Kogi into a state of anomie. Democracy is the expression of the wishes of the people. Those wishes have been expressed and no amount of bullets can silence the voice of the ballot. We are calling on the Police, DSS and other security agencies to immediately arrest the slide to anarchy by arresting Muritala Yakubu Ajaka and his co-swimmers in the pool of violence. We have cautioned our supporters to remain calm and the call will be more effective if the anarchists are immediately apprehended and prosecuted.

"The violence witnessed in Kogi East because of the desperation of Muritala Yakubu Ajaka was not witnessed in the West and Central. He turned himself to an outlaw, attacking the opposition, killing opposition members and boasting to go free because of his mouthed connection with certain powerful people. Kogi must not be allowed to become a lawless place and the only solution now is to use Muritala Yakubu Ajaka as a Scape goat. He was not the only one who contested the election. But he is the only one who feels he must kill everything and everyone standing on his path to his irredeemable dream of grabbing power by force. Totalitarianism has no place in a democratic setting.

"Gentlemen of the press, we will continue to preach peace and harmony. Kogi is our project and we will keep the flag flying."

A group of Ondo State Youth under the aegis of Southerner Youth Alliance (SYA), has felicitated Ondo State Coordinator of the Tantita Security Services, Senior High Chief Idowu Asonja, on his reappointment as Commander of Ondo State chapter of the security organisation.

The letter of reappointment for another three years as the State coodinator of TANTITA security services in charge of Ondo State was presented to Asonja on Tuesday by the General Manager, Operations and Technical, Tantita Security Services, Sir Godfrey Tare Pondi.

In reaction to the appointment, the group's President, Talabi Balogun, said: "reappointing Senior High Chief Idowu Asonja as Ondo State Coordinator of Tantita is a welcome development. It shows that Tantita truly appreciates Asonja as a value addition and a man who carries all critical stakeholders along in the discharge of his assignments.

"Asonja has a splendid relationship with the relevant stakeholders in the state, from the traditional Institutions, to the security organisations, youths and Niger Delta across around here.

"We appreciate Government Oweizide Ekpemupolo for putting the round peg in the round hole. We also that the president of Nigeria, Bola Ahmed Tinubu, GCFR, for renewing pipelines Security and Surveillance contract for the Tantita Security Services."

Ilaje Renaissance Group, (IRG), an association of aboriginal Ilaje indigenes, has applauded the reappointment of Senior High Chief Idowu Asonja, as coordinator of Ondo State chapter of the Tantita Security Services.

The Chairman of the group, Chief Ehinmore Kola, on Tuesday, described the reappointment of Senior High Chief Asonja as deserving and in the best interest of the people of the oil producing areas in Ondo State.

Asonja received his letter of reappointment on Tuesday from the General Manager, Operations and Technical, Tantita Security Services, Sir Godfrey Tare Pondi, who presented on behalf of the organisation.

Ehinmore said: "Senior High Chief Idowu Asonja is a man of the people. His reappointment as Ondo State Coordinator of Tantita is in the best interest of the people, particularly the oil producing areas of Ondo State.

"He is a thoroughbred officer who does not leave any stone unturned in doing his job. And he enjoys a good relationship with the who and who in the state. We are happy with the decision of Government Oweizide Ekpemupolo. May God continue to bless him."

The commanding officer in charge of Ondo State chapter of Tantita Security Services, Senior High Chief Idowu Asonja, has felicitated the Niger Delta Leader and the former Nigerian militant commander of the Movement for the Emancipation of the Niger Delta, Government Oweizide Ekpemupolo, popularly known as Tompolo, on his conferment with a Honourary Doctorate Degree.

The Nigeria Maritime University (NMU) last Saturday, had conferred Tompolo with a Honoris Causa in Philosophy of Education, among other distinguished Nigerians, at its maiden convocation ceremony.

In his reaction to this development, Senior High Chief Asonja during a media chat on Monday in Akure, Ondo State Capital, said Tompolo's name is synonymous with honour, patriotism and responsibility. He also added that Tompolo is a man whose life is defined by self-sacrifice and struggle for justice.

"He a detribalised patriot who cares for all irrespective of ethnic, religious, political or economic inclinations. The honourary Doctorate Degree is only deserving and an affirmation of our confidence in Tompolo as a rare leader.

"His life is driven by self,-sacrifice andmp relentless pursuit of Justice for all. His name is synonymous with honour, patriotism and responsibility. The honour is heartwarming and I believe that it is earned. Asonja said.

The Nigerian Maritime University (NMU) is a federal university located in Okerenkoko, Warri South West Local Government Area of Delta State, Nigeria.

The President of Nigeria, Bola Ahmed Tinubu, GCFR, has been lauded for his intervention in the political straits of Ondo State over the temporary absence of Governor Oluwarotimi Akeredolu, SAN.

The laudation was expressed, Saturday, in favour of the President's mediation by the Commandant in charge of Ondo State chapter of the Tantita Security Services, Senior High Chief Idowu Asonja, in his interaction with the media.

According to the Commandant, the state was saved through the President's positive interference from what could have ultimately taken the shape of the Ajasin vs Omoboriowo debacle of 1983 in the state.

In his words: "We must all commend the President of our beloved country, Asiwaju Ahmed Bola Tinubu, GCFR, who has made a timely and positive intervention in the issues affecting the state politically.

"His intervention has changed the course of the narrative positively. But for his timely intervention, Ondo State could have taken the shape of the Ajasin/Omoboriowo era which caused the state so much damages and pains. I appreciate Mr President and wish him long life and fullness of health."

Asonja also thanked the state actors, including the First Lady, Chief Betty Anyanwu-Akeredolu, the Speaker of the. state House of Assembly, Rt Hon Olamide Oladiji, honourable members of the House and members of the State Executives for giving peace a chance.

At the Villa, President Tinubu had, on Friday night, met with relevant stakeholders from Ondo State, including executive and legislative arms of government and party leadership to aggregate opinions on the issues at stake regarding the Governor's absence and gave specific directives, going forward.

The resolutions include, among other things, that: Akeredolu remains the Governor; Aiyedatiwa remains the Deputy Governor and not as Acting Governor; ceasure of impeachment, House of Assembly remains one; State Executives remains intact; Party Executives remains intact and withdrawal of all court cases.

The Ondo State Internal Revenue Service (ODIRS) has lauded Sam Maris University, Supare-Akoko as a fledgling institution, and described the Leadership as exemplary.

The Revenue Service gave the applause on Thursday during a courtesy visit to the Institution by its representatives led by the Oka-Akoko Tax Station Manager, Mr. Frank Akinkuotu.

President Bola Tinubu has approved the appointment of Dr. Olasupo Olusi to serve as the Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer of the Bank of Industry (BOI) for a term of four (4) years in the first instance.

The President's approval of Dr. Olusi's appointment follows the voluntary resignation of former BOI Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer, Mr. Olukayode Pitan.

Dr. Olasupo Olusi has served as a World Bank economist and development finance expert over the past 20 years. Between 2011 and 2015, Dr. Olusi served as the economic adviser to then Coordinating Minister of the Economy and Minister of Finance. He is an alumnus of Hull University, United Kingdom. He also obtained a Masters degree in International Money, Finance, and Investment, as well as a Doctorate in Finance & Economics from Durham University, United Kingdom, in 2005.

The President tasks the new BOI Chief Executive to ensure that Nigerians, who are operating all sizes of enterprises across sectors, are given fair and equitable access to much needed support in order to bolster employment generation and wealth creation amongst income groups in the country with special regard for lower and middle income enterprise operators.

• Ondo Takes Delivery of Own Gadgetry

Tantita Security Services, the security organisation saddled by the Federal Government of Nigeria with the task of securing the country's pipelines and oilwells, has acquired new machinery for the fight against oil theft and pipeline vandalism.

The gadgetry which includes Sharp Mouth brand of speed boats (200 Horses Power) and other apparatuses have since been deployed to the various Niger Delta States to fortify the pipelines' security architecture in each state, including Ondo State, Southwest, Nigeria.

The Commandant of Ondo State Chapter of Tantita Security Services, Senior High Chief Idowu Asonja, while interacting with journalists who, on Sunday, visited him at Igbokoda, Ilaje local government, on facility visit, confirmed the delivery of four new speed boats with the company's name visibly crested on them and other security equipment.

The lauded his boss and former Nigerian militant commander, Government Oweizide Ekpemupolo, popularly known to by his sobriquet Tompolo, for what he described as 'more energies' for Tantita.

Asonja said: "As you can all see, Tantita is justifying the confidence reposed in it by Nigerians and the government. We are happy to receive new speed boats and other gadgets here in Ondo State and I am sure that the feeling will be the same elsewhere. With the new delivery, the work on monitoring, particularly in the high seas will be well enhanced. Tompolo is doing the job. Tantita is achieving results."

Each year, on the 17th of November, World Prematurity Day is observed to raise awareness about the challenges faced by preterm babies and their families worldwide. The theme for this year’s World Prematurity Day is “Small Actions, BIG IMPACT.” It underscores the significance of every small step we take to improve the care and support of premature babies and their families.

Today, I celebrate the resilience and strength of families raising preterm babies and to extend an arm of hope, love, empathy, and support to them. Babies born too soon face numerous challenges in many aspects of life while growing up and require special assistance to help them grow safely.

Premature birth is defined as a birth that occurs before 37 weeks of pregnancy; it is a global concern. It affects millions of families and has significant implications for the health and well-being of new-borns. In many cases, the causes of premature birth are complex and not entirely understood, making prevention a challenging task. However, the care and support provided to premature babies and their families can make a world of difference.

According to the World Health Organization, an estimated 15 million babies are born preterm each year, accounting for about one in 10 of all births worldwide. The National Institute of Health recorded that preterm babies accounts for 40 – 60% of all perinatal deaths in Nigeria, 11 by gestational age. 5.2% of preterm births occur at less than 28weeks gestation (extremely preterm), 10.4% at 28-<32 weeks (very preterm) and 85.3% at 32 – 36 weeks (moderate – late preterm).

Preterm delivery could be spontaneous or induced. Clinical and socio-demographic variables which are usually not apparent have been associated with spontaneous preterm delivery. Preterm neonates are more likely to have difficulty with feeding, blood glucose control, jaundice, temperature instability, apnoea, respiratory distress, sepsis, wide spectrum of neuro-developmental disabilities, as well as growth and health problems either singly or in combination compared to neonates delivered at term. Consequent upon these complications, the birth of a preterm neonate can bring with it considerable emotional and economic costs to families with its attendant implications for public-sector services. The survival of preterm infants is a function of both their biological maturity and technological advancement in any given setting. While technological advancement has continued to show marked improvement in developed countries with increasing survival of extremely preterm babies, the same cannot be said of the developing countries. especially in Africa, –particularly Nigeria, where there is poor health infrastructure, poverty, mass illiteracy, gross gender inequality, numerous conflicts, and a lack of equipment, manpower, and support services necessary to float a functioning neonatal intensive care service.

In light of this, the plausible way of reducing the burden of preterm birth in our health sector is by reducing its incidence, starting with a proper understanding of the factors associated with these births. An urgent improvement in prenatal and newborn care is therefore needed in the study centre to improve the capacity to prevent or abate preterm labour, and preterm premature rupture of membranes, and to reduce avoidable stillbirths. Further upgrading of personnel and facilities in the newborn special care unit is also required to minimize early neonatal deaths. The onus therefore lies on us all to start making conscious efforts in the little ways we can, to curb this issue as much as possible.

Small Actions, BIG IMPACT:
As healthcare practitioners, I urge us all today to continually through our care to give hope to babies born too soon and their families as our actions goes a long way in creating a big impact for the newborns. The small actions that create a big impact are as follows:

1. Kangaroo Care: One of the simplest yet most effective interventions for premature babies is Kangaroo Care. This method involves skin-to-skin contact between the baby and the parent, typically the mother but when the mother is not available the father can suffice. It helps regulate the baby’s temperature, heart rate, and breathing, and promotes bonding.

2. Breast Milk: Providing premature babies with breast milk, even in small amounts, can have a significant impact on their health and development. It helps protect them from infections and provides essential nutrients.

3. Immediate care at birth: There is a significant advantage in the survival of premature babies depending on the immediate care rendered at birth and during the first few days of life especially preterm with breathing difficulties. This helps to prevent mortality and lifetime neurological impairment. Immediate care includes mechanical ventilation, Continuous positive airway pressure (CPAP), temperature regulation, blood sugar control and medicine such as caffeine citrate, surfactant etc.

4. Infection control measures: Hospital- acquired (nosocomial) infection is primarily a problem for premature infants requiring prolonged hospitalization, the lower the birth weight, the higher the risk of infection. Therefore active monitoring and adherence to infection control measures is essential e.g. Hand hygiene, sterilisation and disinfection of equipment, NICU protocol PPE (cap,facemask,gown and footwear), infection surveillance and antibiotics.

5. Supportive Environment: Creating a nurturing and supportive environment in neonatal intensive care units (NICUs) is crucial. Simple gestures like soft lighting, quiet surroundings, and gentle handling can reduce stress and improve the baby’s development.

Scores of women activists from across Nigeria converged on Abuja on Tuesday, demanding justice for a lady who was allegedly killed by thugs said to be working for the Governorship Candidate of the Social Democratic Party in Kogi State, Muritala Yakubu.

The Activists, who represent different women groups under one umbrella, said their protest became necessary because it appeared that the gruesome killing of Khadijat Yahaya, an All Progressives Congress' supporter, in the Kotonkarfe area of Kogi State about two months ago, might have been swept under the carpet allegedly because she was not from an influential family.

Co-convener, Women Standing Together, Barr. Pereagbe Enagonimi Ekpede, who addressed the press after the protest, said after about two months of the sad incident, Khadijat's killers were still walking the streets free, while nothing had been said about police investigation into the matter or arrests of culprits.

The women, who said an injury to a woman was an injury to them all, appealed to President Bola Tinubu and the Inspector-General of Police, Kayode Egbetokun, to intervene directly to get justice for the late Khadijat.

"Justice to us means her killer being arrested,  prosecuted and sentenced accordingly.  All those associated with her killer, no matter how highly placed, should be brought in for questioning with a view to getting the main culprits arrested," the activists said.

They held placards with various inscriptions such as "arrest Khadijat's killers now", Khadijat's killers still walking free, Police must act now", Khadijat cannot be wasted just like that", and "women's lives matter: justice for Khadijat", among others.

Addressing the press, the Co-convener said, "Fellow Nigerian women and members of the Press, with pain in my heart I welcome you all to this peaceful protest to rally support for our dear sister, late Khadijat Yahaya, who was murdered cold-blood about two months ago by political miscreants in Kogi State.

"An injury to any one woman anywhere in this country is an injury to all of us because we don't know who the next victim may be. Therefore, we must stand for one another irrespective of tribe, religion or political affiliation. That is why we are Women Standing Together. We have been fighting for women's rights for almost two decades and we will continue to get stronger doing that.

"This protest has become necessary due to the fact that about two months after this innocent poor lady was gunned down by armed thugs allegedly/suspected to be thugs in the convoy of the Kogi State SDP candidate, Mr. Muritala Ajaka,  those who killed this lady are still walking the streets free as if it's just a goat that has been killed.

"We cannot have a society where anybody can just take the life of another without consequences. I am a lawyer and activist of many years' standing. We have laws against assault and murder with clear consequences prescribed for those crimes in our statute books. 

"We have laws even against domestic violence. The time has long passed that women should be suffering and dying in silence. We have laws protecting us. But we must come together to ensure that we continue to protect one another and fight for one another. We are the mothers of the nation.  We deserve to be respected, protected and honored.

"What is more infuriating is to learn that after this ugly incident, the Kogi State Police Command issued a statement saying that they invited Mr Ajaka but till date he hasn't honored Police invitation to address this issue and Police authorities don't feel the need to do anything about it simply because of political correctedness.

"We understand that, being a campaign season, the Police may not want to take an action that might be deemed political, but when human life is involved, political correctedness should take a secondary position.

"Late journalism guru, Mr. Dele Giwa, wrote that one life taken unjustly is the same as a million lives taken in a pogrom. We agree with that submission and hereby appeal to the Inspector-General of Police, Mr. Kayode Egbetokun, to intervene directly to get justice for our murdered sister.

"Justice to us means her killer being arrested,  prosecuted and sentenced accordingly.  All those associated with her killer, no matter how highly placed, should be brought in for questioning with a view to getting the main culprits arrested.

"We want to make it clear and loud that we will not stop until justice is served on this matter. Khadijat was a Nigerian. She had three little children. She cannot be allowed to be killed anyhow without anyone paying for the crime. What would have happened if she were to be the daughter of an influential Nigerian? By now, some suspects would have been arrested and arraigned.

"Come to think of it, we are talking about human life that once taken cannot be replaced nor repaired.

"We call on President Bola Ahmed Tinubu as a father and grandfather to weigh in on this matter and help us get justice for Khadijat. Women lives matter!"

The Kogi State Chapter of the APC has called on security agencies to be fair to all, in carrying out their operations.

The call is coming on the heels of security raids on the residences of some APC chieftains in Kogi East, in which the party has expressed serious concerns.

In a statement issued by the Spokesperson/Director, Media and Publicity of the APC Campaign, Kingsley Femi Fanwo, the ruling party reiterated that it welcome every effort at ensuring a peaceful poll on Saturday November 11, 2023.

Explaining that the election is for the electorate to determine who leads the state from January 27, 2024, Fanwo said there shouldn't be a reason for insecurity in the state.

He also expressed the concerns of the Campaign Council regarding the "needless raid on the residences of some of our chieftains in Kogi East", saying that the party "hold the hope that they are not specifically targeted ahead of the election".

The statement reads,“ We wish to reiterate that as a Campaign Council, we welcome every effort at ensuring a peaceful poll on November 11, 2023. A chieftain of the ruling All Progressives Congress in Ondo State, Adeyeri Stephen has congratulated President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, on his victory at the Supreme Court.

Adeyeri said the judgement further gave credence to the fact that the judiciary is stainless despite negative comments passed against it by those opposed to the renewed hope agenda of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu.

He also described the stance of the 11 members of the Ondo State House of Assembly, who dissociated themselves from a purported letter written to the Chief Judge by the Speaker, as commendable.

A non-governmental organisation, Modupe Ellison Foundation has supported the campaign against out of school children across the country with the provision of over seven thousand note books, over one thousand school kit sets, school tables and chairs, and school uniforms

The foundation also renovated L.A primary school Ajipowo in Ondo state, where pupils of the school were supported with major writing items to aid there learning.

Schools that benefited from this initiative were Saint James Anglican primary school oda town, Saint Williams RCM primary school, also in oda town and LA primary school, ajipowo camp, idanre all in Ondo state.

The first phase of the initiative were targeted to cater for the vulnerable, especially those at the grass root.

Modupe Ellison Foundation also converted some schools' local black board to white board, which is obtainable in the modern day learning.

Other items includes school sandals,socks, among others.

The facilitator, Mrs. Modupe Ellison Foundation stated that the initiative is born out of love and passion for the masses, added that such gestures will be carried out often to encourage the vulnerable.

Also speaking, the head teacher of Saint Williams RCM primary school, Mrs.Aiku Abimbola Mercy thanked the organisers, assuring that the pupils will make good use of the items.

Some of the beneficiaries, Omosekun Olayinka who could not hide her joy, prayed for the organisers, urging other beneficiaries to value the items.

The Forum of Former Members of the Kogi State House of Assembly has unanimously declared its support for the governorship candidate of the ruling All Progressives Congress, Usman Ododo, ahead of the November 11 election in the state.

The Forum, which comprises the entire past lawmakers in the state from 1999, across political parties, also resolved to go back to their different communities to ensure resounding victory for the APC candidate.

The lawmakers, who said their decision to support Ododo followed a painstaking assessment of all the candidates on the field and the need to save the state from being dragged back to the old days of ethnocentric politics and violence, spoke at a press conference in Lokoja on Thursday.

The Chairman, Forum of Former Members of the Kogi State House of Assembly, Alhassan Salisu Adakeke, who addressed the press, with other members in attendance, pointed out that Kogi was too central to Nigeria to be left in the hands of candidates "who are out to disunite the state" and truncate the widely acknowledged achievements of the current administration.

While calling on the Independent National Electoral Commission to "immediately activate relevant sections of the Electoral Law against candidates fanning ethnic division and stoking atomic politics," the former Assembly members said, "Kogi State has remained very peaceful since the advent of the GYB (Governor Yahaya Bello) administration and cannot afford to lose it now to desperate politicians dropping names after disrespecting the same names. Their only hope is violence.

"We hereby unanimously declare the support of former legislators to the candidacy of the Governorship candidate of the All Progressives Congress, Ahmed Usman Ododo. Our members are resolved to work hard throughout the state to deliver him resoundingly on November 11, 2023. We have no doubt that we will celebrate our victory and the future of our dear state will be guaranteed.

The Supreme Court, on Monday, finally dismissed an appeal filed by Senator Smart Adeyemi against the judgements of the two lower courts on the All Progressives Congress' primary election, which held in Kogi State on April 15, 2023.

The Supreme Court, in a unanimous judgement, held that the appeal lacked merit, having failed to challenge the concurrent findings of both the High and Appeal Courts, or demonstrate that same were perverse.

The Apex Court also held that the two issues raised in the Appellant's brief were unreasonable, vexatious, not triable and against the provisions of Section 132 and 133(1) of the Evidence Act 2011.

Adeyemi, who represented Kogi West Senatorial District in the 9th Assembly, had filed a suit at the Federal High Court seeking to nullify the primary election of the APC, which produced Usman Ododo as the party’s flagbearer for the state’s governorship election slated for November 11. The case was dismissed by both the Federal High Court and the Court of Appeal for lacking in merit.

The apex court, while delivering judgment on Monday, first struck out the
Appellant's first notice of Appeal, the Appellant having relied on the 2nd Notice of Appeal filed and held that the power of the Apex Court in respect of appeals against concurrent findings of the two lower Courts could only be exercised when the findings were alleged to be perverse.

The Court also described as contemptuous, the practice of parties appearing on TV stations to discuss pending appeals, saying, "You go saying on television that if the court is a court of justice, the appeal should go in your favour."

"The court frowns at this practice. Once you've engaged a lawyer, go and rest.
I am giving this elaborate talk so that you don't go out and say things that are not reasonable. The Court is manned by reasonable persons," Justice E. A Agim, who delivered the Supreme Court’s Judgement, said.

The Apex Court said, "There is nothing on the Notice of Appeal of the Appellant showing a challenge as to the perverseness of the findings of the two lower courts.

"The Appellant never alleged that there was no evidence to support the findings of the two lower Courts. This Court has no power to revisit those issues of facts raised in the Notice of Appeal unless there is an allegation that the findings were perverse."

"On the whole, this appeal fails. The Appellant shall pay the cost of N1 million each to the 1st and 3rd Respondents (the governorship candidate and the APC)," the Supreme Court ruled.

Umar Abdulhamid represented the 2nd Respondent, and M. Y Abdullahi, SAN, the 3rd Respondent.

The Court of Appeal had, on August 18, 2023, held that the appeal argued by Adekunle Oladapo Otitoju on behalf of Senator Adeyemi was completely bereft of merit.

In a unanimous judgment of a 3-man panel of Justices of the Court, Adeyemi was said to have failed woefully to establish all grievous criminal allegations made against the conduct of the primary election by APC and its leaders.

Justice Mohammed Lawal Shuaib who delivered the lead judgment resolved all the three issues in dispute against Adeyemi.

Justice Shuaib said that the allegations of manipulations and falsifications of the primary election results made by Adeyemi, being criminal in nature, ought to have been proved beyond reasonable doubt as required by law.

He also dismissed another allegation by the Appellant that he was denied fair hearing by the Appeal Committee of the APC based on his petition against the alleged unlawful conduct of the primary election.

Justice Shuaib said that the issue of denial of fair hearing was not raised in his originating summons at the Federal High Court, hence, could not be raised as a fresh issue at the Court of Appeal.

In the absence of cogent and verifiable evidence on the part of Adeyemi, the Court of Appeal held that his allegations remained mere assertions that could not enjoy any probative value.

The Court of Appeal upheld the judgment of Justice James Omotosho of the Federal High Court in Abuja delivered on July 12, which had held that Adeyemi did not prove his allegations that Ododo was not lawfully nominated by the APC.

Senator Adeyemi had, therefore, sought an order of the Supreme Court, setting aside the judgments of the lower courts, allowing his appeal and granting all the reliefs sought in his originating summons.

The Igala indigenes, especially the critical stakeholders of the Social Democratic Party, Peoples Democratic Party, African Democratic Congress, who defected publicly to the ruling APC at the Kogi East Senatorial District Rally, as well as other illustrious Igala sons and daughters, said the crowd witnessed on Saturday was an unprecedented one of in the history of electioneering in Kogi East.

They promised to deliver massively for the APC in the election to pave the way for the continuity of what they described as the detribalised and purposeful leadership of Governor Yahaya Bello, which had brought unity and sincere development to all parts of the state, noting that there was nothing like ethnic agenda in the dictionary of patriotic citizens.

In his remarks, the Director General, Kogi APC Governorship Campaign Council, and Minister of Steel Development, Shaibu Abubakar Audu, said the only agenda for the APC was the Kogi Agenda, adding that the party's candidate was coming to build and consolidate on the laudable legacies of Governor Yahaya Bello.

"The only agenda for the APC is the Kogi Agenda. The Party has the interest of the whole State. Alhaji Ahmed Usman Ododo has a vision for the development of the entire State. He will build and consolidate on the legacies of Gov Yahaya Bello.

"We are proud today that Kogi is the most secured State in North Central Nigeria. The APC will provide massive jobs for our teeming youths through agricultural revolution. The APC is working on expanding the capacity to be able to produce several agricultural produce, particularly in Kogi East.

"I urge you to support the APC and Alhaji Ododo. President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, who appointed me as Minister of Steel Development, is interested in the vision and success of Kogi State through the development of Ajaokuta Steel.

"This will enable the provision of massive jobs for the entire youths of our dear State. He has asked that we do not hand over the State to a hustler government or to an opposition government. The President is concerned about the State and has said we cannot afford to handover a strategic State to the opposition," he stated.

The Chairman of APC in Kogi State, Abdullahi Bello, expressed satisfaction with the massive turnout and enthusiasm displayed by the people of Kogi East and urged them to sustain the tempo to pave the way for landslide victory in the governorship election.

Also, the lawmaker representing Kogi East in the National Assembly, Senator Jibrin Echocho, called on the people of Kogi East who had yet to come into the APC fold, to embrace the party, pointing out that elections are won on party structures.

"Let me appeal to our people to be passionate with the APC. Our candidate is marketable. Elections are won based on Party structures. The people of Kogi East voted APC in the general election. We cannot afford to do otherwise in the forthcoming election.

"Governor Bello has laid a solid foundation in infrastructure, human capital development across the State. His achievements have done the major part of the election. Let's all join hands in ensuring collective victory for the APC," Echocho said.

Addressing the people, the Deputy Governor of Kogi State, Edward Onoja, urged the people of Kogi East to vote on the strength of continuity and cautioned against sentiments, saying that elections are about political parties and not tribe, religion or region.

In his speech, Governor Yahaya Bello cautioned the people against ethnicity, stressing that tribal politics had no place in this time and age.

"Ethnic politics is selfish interest. Igala agenda is about job creation, development, prosperity. Don't be deceived. The APC will win landslide. Victory will be ours at the election. Alhaji Usman Ahmed Ododo is a refined gentleman with cognate experience in public service and in politics.

"On assumption of office, we met a state divided along ethnic and other fault lines. We have been able to cement all those fault lines. Today, issues of ethnicity have been buried. Fairness, equity, justice have replaced mediocrity, ethnicity.

"We have raised youths and women across board. We have built and distributed projects, infrastructure and empowerment across board. So much has been achieved in the State and we cannot afford to go back to our dark days," the Governor said.

Addressing the unprecedented crowd, the APC Governorship Candidate, Ododo, said his aspiration was about the people, progress and unity of the State.

"Let me appeal to the people of Kogi East. Let's build a united and stronger Kogi State which we all can be proud of. Let this election be about our people, development, unity and prosperity. It is my fervent appeal that I'm ready to be a servant leader with no barrier," he said.

The APC Governorship Candidate thanked Governor Bello for his outstanding achievements and promised to build on the legacies.

While telling Igala people that it would be counter-productive to play ethnic and minority politics, he specifically thanked President Tinubu for his outstanding leadership and commitment to the growth and development of Kogi State and Nigeria at large.

Stakeholders in Kogi State, especially those from Kogi East, have condemned the alleged instigation of violence in the senatorial district by the Governorship candidate of the Social Democratic Party, Muritala Yakubu, saying it is capable of disenfranchising voters in the zone and working against serious contenders from Kogi East.

The stakeholders who spoke on behalf of thousands of responsible Igala sons and daughters across the zone, and Kogites, generally, who are members of the Kogi East Patriotic Association, accused Ajaka of needless and reckless propaganda, being stage-managed at the expense of security in the area.

They spoke at an emergency press briefing held in Abuja on Thursday, in reaction to what they termed the latest spurious allegation of attempted assassination by the SDP candidate and the involvement of a Police officer who was allegedly severely injured by Yakubu's thugs.

The stakeholders, who said they were not campaigning for any candidate in the forthcoming governorship election, noted that Kogi State indigenes and Nigerians were aware that other governorship candidates from opposition parties had been going about their campaigns without bloodshed or violence, but that the SDP and its candidate had, unfortunately, allegedly made orchestrated bloodshed the hallmark of their campaign.

"Each time Ajaka goes out, it is always blood, crying and tears for Kogites. Is he the only governorship candidate in Kogi State? Certainly not," they declared.

The Convener, Kogi East Patriotic Association, Abdulkadir Ojonugwa, who addressed the press on behalf of others, said, "We have never had a governorship candidate as unruly and crude as the SDP candidate, Muritala Yakubu, in the history of Kogi State politics.

"His handlers are also as clueless and have failed to realise that while elections would go on smoothly in other parts of the state and others would record more wins, their gameplan would only decimate the votes in Kogi East at the detriment of serious contenders. And we say no to this. Enough is enough."

They accused him of creating tension in the region even after he had refused to honour Police invitations and threatened to effect a citizens' arrest "and hand him over to the Police" if the horrible trend continues.

"Our people are getting fed up with all these violent shenanigans and if the Police and the state government refuse to do the needful, the people of Kogi East will have no choice than to effect a citizens' arrest of Ajaka and hand him over to the relevant authorities before he kills all of us for his inordinate ambition," Ojonugwa, who is from Olamaboro Local Government Area of Kogi East, said.

On the Police officer in the purported video of assault, the stakeholders noted, "The Police officer seen in that video would have been made to say things under duress to save his own life because that was the only way that man could still be alive today.

"We could hear clearly as the thugs were shouting to be allowed to kill a police officer of the Federal Republic of Nigeria inside a Police Station and turning around to blame all that on the state government."

The Kogi East stakeholders stated, "As bona-fide citizens of Kogi State from Kogi East, it is our desire to see a peaceful and credible election in our dear state. We have been monitoring developments in the state since the beginning of the campaign for the Kogi State governorship election and the trend of campaign of ethnic divisionism and violence has not escaped our attention. 

"Our sense of urgency in arranging for this emergency Press Conference was further heightened by the violence we witnessed yesterday in Kogi State whereby a senior Police officer was almost lynched allegedly by the thugs of the governorship candidate of the Social Democratic Party under the spurious claims that he was involved in an attack against the convoy of Mr Murtala Ajaka.

"First, we must call on the highest authorities of the Nigeria Police to swiftly arrest all individuals who were involved in that dastardly act. If you watch that video closely,  you will hear some people shouting 'let us kill this idiot. You will die today' and so on. And to think that they succeeded in gaining access inside the Idah Police station and almost succeeded in killing that Police Officer inside the Police station was more than scary and so unfathomable."

"In this man's desperation to be governor, he doesn't seem to care how many lives can be lost and the extent of destruction that can pave the way to get him there.  He has perfected the means of engaging in propaganda to blame every violence he orchestrates on the state's government but every Kogite no longer buys his story. What happened yesterday was a stage-managed  bloody violence scripted by Mr Ajaka and his committee of thugs," they stated.

The stakeholders added that no matter the alleged "evil propaganda and lies manufactured daily by Ajaka and his cohorts", Kogi East votes had already been dedicated to those deserving of the votes.

"Even amongst us in Igala land, we know who we can trust. But we're not here to campaign for anybody but to warn those whose stock in trade is orchestrating violence and playing the victim that they can't put all of us at risk because of their unpopular ambition.

"We stand for peace, justice and credible election on November 11 and whoever will make that impossible must be caged by security agents before that time. The continued security, peace and prosperity of Kogi State is our ultimate desire and we will do everything to make it happen.

"We condemn politics of ethnic bigotry and violence in all ramifications. We are educated, knowledgeable and reasonable people in Kogi East and we will not tolerate dishonorable conduct from any politician even if he is our brother or sister," they declared.

The people of Kogi West have called on well meaning sons and daughters of the senatorial district to take a second look at the recent activities of Senator Smart Adeyemi, and realise that he desperately needs their help to overcome the fear of the unknown, which they said had allegedly made him to start exhibiting what they described as "severe signs of depression".

The Kogi West leaders, in a statement in reaction to Adeyemi's Channels TV interview on Wednesday, said his utterances were totally devoid of logic, especially as regards a state "where he has absolutely no followership."

The statement, signed on behalf of over 4,000 Okun indigenes, across all wards, by the Coordinator, Kogi Collective Interest Group, Abdul-Ganiyu Yusuf, challenged Adeyemi, who represented Kogi West Senatorial District in the 9th Assembly, to go to his ward to demonstrate his popularity to Nigerians, insisting that he would be booed as a result of non-performance while in office.

Yusuf, a High Chief from Ife-Olukotun, Yagba East Local Government, blamed Governor Yahaya Bello for "dashing him (Adeyemi) a third term", saying all Kogi West people were united in their determination not to allow the former Senator get the third term ticket but for the plea by the Governor on his behalf.

The indigenes called on Adeyemi’s family members "not to watch him grieve alone as he has started showing dangerous signs of depression."

"How can a man in his right frame of mind begin to hop from one TV station to the other, desperately, to say unfounded things about a matter that is already before the Supreme Court? Both the High and Appeal Courts have crushed his case. And any one who was in court on the day of the Supreme Court hearing already knows this man is completely unserious.

"He has absolutely no base in his hometown or state. He is begging to appear on TV stations desperately as if his life depends on it. Unfortunately, those that he is trying to seek their help know that he drinks palm wine and breaks the keg like his colleagues in the media have described him.

"Serious politicians are on the field aligning with one political party or the other and doing meaningful things with their time. Even as a Senator, he was a complete failure. He is the only orphan in the mix now. So, one should understand his grief and pity him, sincerely, instead of getting angry with a confused, battered, expired politician who, in the process of seeking to save a drowning image, is inadvertently committing political suicide.

"Please tell Smart Adeyemi to go home and show Nigerians his supporters and stop making a fool of himself on TV. The politicians we have at the top in Nigeria, as well as our indefatigable judges cannot be swayed by unintelligent serial betrayers and blackmailers. They know them when they see them and they can decode the signs of severe depression," they stated.

Thousands of supporters trooped out, on Saturday, for a massive All Progressives Congress rally, held in Kabba, Kogi West Senatorial District, in support of the APC Governorship candidate, Usman Ododo.

Critical stakeholders, at the highly successful rally, which further underscored the massive support for the APC candidate in Okunland, specifically declared that there was no vacuum for opposition political parties in the area in the forthcoming governorship election.

The APC members said they were waiting anxiously for November 11 to expose what they termed "unfounded propaganda by confused politicians who had no base in Okunland" and to deliver massively for Ododo and his running mate, Joel Oyibo.

The various speakers and key leaders, drawn from all parts of Kogi West, said they could not afford to be in the minority and described the APC as a party that had offered them limitless opportunities since the creation of the State.

"We have the mandate of our people in Kogi West that there is no vaccum for opposition political parties. We are poised to deliver maximally for the APC," the Director General, Kogi West APC Governorship Campaign, Funsho Olumoko, said.

Former Deputy Governor of Kogi State, Yomi Awoniyi, noted that Okun people had resolved to deliver for the APC with one voice.

"Our people have resolved to deliver for APC. Our people will vote for consolidation and sustainability in the November 11 governorship election in Kogi State," he assured.

The Minister of Steel Development, Shaibu Abubakar, who is the Director General of the Kogi State APC Governorship Campaign, said the massive turnout by supporters indicated that the APC had no opposition, while expressing the confidence that the Party will win, impressively, come November 11.

"Let us come out en masse to vote for Alhaji Ahmed Usman Ododo. This will enable him build on the legacies of Governor Yahaya Bello in security, massive job creation, infrastructure and so many other areas. With the massive turnout here today, it is clear that we have no opposition," he stated.

Speaker, Kogi State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. Umar Aliyu, described Lokoja Kogi Federal Constituency as a no-go area for the opposition, noting that the people would reward the APC for giving them a sense of belonging and for the achievements in the area.

"Let me make it abundantly clear. The APC will be rewarded for the sense of belonging, infrastructure and appointments the people of Lokoja and Kogi LGAs have enjoyed," he said, adding that the people of the area had never had it so good.

Other speakers at the rally were the Secretary to the Kogi State Government, Folashade Ayoade; Deputy Governor of the state, Edward Onoja; Suleiman Babadoko, and Taofiq Isah, among others.

They all noted that Kogi West remained a no-go area for the opposition, stressing that it had been sealed by the strength of the APC structure and the achievements of the current administration in the State.

In his remarks, the Kogi State APC Governorship Candidate, Usman Ododo, said he was committed to consolidating on the progress and development achieved by Governor Bello.

"I'm prepared to serve and to open a new page of development in the State. Governor Yahaya Bello has laid a solid foundation for the State and I'm poised to ensure sustainability and consolidation," he said.

Governor Yahaya Bello called on the people of Kogi West to join hands in forming a government that would meet their yearnings and aspirations.

"The achievements of my administration are visible for all to see. This is not time for us to be complacent. We cannot afford to be in the opposition, not with the many plans the President Bola Ahmed Tinubu administration has for Kogi State.

"In the last couple of years, we have built and rebuilt our infrastructure. We have made Kogi money and resources to work for the people. We cannot afford to be dragged back.

"I appeal to the people of Kogi West to vote for the APC to enable consolidation, unity amongst our people and to ensure that the coming generation of the people of Kogi West can be proud of what has been achieved," the Governor stated.

Highlights of the rally were the receiving of decampees from the PDP and other opposition political parties and the presentation of flag to the APC governorship candidate.

The Campaign team earlier visited the Obaro of Kabba, HRM, Oba Solomon Dele Owoniyi, who assured of the continuous support of traditional rulers for the State Government.

Kogi guber: ADC state chairman, 3 senatorial chairmen, only Assembly member, dump Abejide, move supporters to APC

The Kogi State Chairman of the African Democratic Party (ADC), Kingsley Oga, and other members of the party across the three senatorial districts have defected to the All Progressives Congress (APC).

The ADC chieftains and members, on Friday, collapsed their entire structure into the APC and endorsed the party's candidate, Usman Ododo, for the November 11 governorship election.

The only ADC State Assembly member, Hon. Idowu Ibikunle, representing Yagba West State Constituency at the Kogi State House of Assembly, also declared his support for the APC candidate, saying her would campaign widely for him despite being an ADC House of Assembly member.

Addressing party members during the defection on Friday, Oga affirmed his position as the state chairman of the ADC but noted that the ADC members in the state had decided to abandon the ADC candidate and work for Ododo.

According to him, among all the governorship candidates for the November 11 gubernatorial election in Kogi State, Usman Ododo, the APC candidate, is the most suitable for the seat.

He said a five-man committee was previously set up to assess all the candidates contesting, and that the committee’s report concluded that Ododo was the right candidate to vote for in the upcoming election.

He emphasised the need to consolidate on Governor Yahaya Bello's sterling achievements across all sectors, noting that Ododo would continue from where he would stop.

The ADC Chairman commended Governor Bello for the remarkable achievements across the state during his seven-and-a-half-year tenure.

He also pointed out that, from what had been seen and heard about the APC gubernatorial candidate, he would undoubtedly perform well when he becomes the next governor of the state.

Hon. Idowu Ibikunlen, representing Yagba West State Constituency in the Kogi State House of Assembly, said he contested as an ADC candidate and won his election.

He added that, despite being a member of the ADC, he and his supporters had all decided to vote for the APC candidate in the governorship election.

All three senatorial chairpersons of the ADC also spoke, affirming their commitment to mobilising their people in the ADC to vote en masse for the APC candidate.

. Thousands defect from opposition parties, say no alternative to APC

The people of Kogi State have been asked to provide the opportunity for the consolidation of the outstanding dividends of democracy that have been visibly provided by the All Progressives Congress in the state, by voting for the candidate of the party, Usman Ododo, in the November 11 governorship election.

The National Campaign Council for the Kogi State Governorship Election urged Kogites not to vote for strangers whose stock-in-trade was propaganda but sustain the trajectory of development in Kogi State by voting en masse for the APC.

Members of the National Campaign Council gave the charge at the official flag-off of the Kogi State All Progressives Congress Governorship Campaign and the official presentation of flag to the candidate of the party, Usman Ododo, in Lokoja, on Sunday.

Vice President Kashim Shettima, who represented President Bola Ahmed Tinubu at the event, expressed the optimism that the APC would win the November 11 governorship election resoundingly, assuring the people of Kogi State that they were about to vote in a man with the intellectual capacity to consolidate on the many achievements of his boss, Governor Yahaya Bello.

He said the President had just approved funds for the construction of Ganaja Road, adding that the Abuja - Lokoja - Okene Road and Kabba - Ilorin Road would also receive the Federal Government's attention very soon.

The VP said, "For us to build on the legacy and for the purpose of continuity and consolidation, it becomes imperative for the people of Kogi State to align themselves with the power at the centre.

"President Tinubu is a man of courage and conviction, he is a man pregnant with ideas on how to reposition the nation, but Kogi, which is one of the frontiers of the North, Kogi, the Confluence State, cannot afford to have a state government that does not belong to the power at the centre.

"For the people of Kogi State to benefit immensely from the eight-point agenda of Pesident Bola Ahmed Tinubu, for the people of Kogi State to benefit from the natural resources, it is absolutely essential that we should vote for a much more patriotic person who is grounded with the reality in Kogi State.

"Most important to the people of Kogi State is the Ajaokuta Steel Company that is the largest steel industry in the country. The President appointed a son of Kogi State from one of the prominent families in the state, Prince Shuaibu Abubakar Audu, to be the Minister of Steel Development. Fundamentally, he was given the appointment to promote, project and preserve the interest of the people of Kogi State to see to the realisation of the Ajaokuta Steel Company, which of course, is 98 per cent completed.

"The Ajaokuta steel company will help the Federal Government to fulfill the eight-point agenda of President Tinubu's administration with respect to job creation, huge investment and revenue generation.

"Ajaokuta steel company has the potential to generate over 500,000 jobs once Ajaokuta is designated as an industrial zone.

"The youth want jobs, better education and good life. You are better off if you follow the man who knows road, therefore give your votes to APC, give your votes to Usman Ahmed Ododo. This is a young man who can deliver the desired dividend of democracy to you."

Governor Dapo Abiodun of Ogun State, who is the Chairman of the APC National Campaign Council for Kogi State Governorship Election, insisted that APC was the only party in the State and urged the people not to make the mistake of not consolidating on visible gains, ensuring the continuity of good governance and aligning with the party in the centre.

He said, "I urge you to vote for consolidation by voting for the APC Governorship Candidate to enable him build on security, infrastructure, education and several other visible achievements of Governor Yahaya Bello.

"The APC will sustain the trajectory of development in Kogi State. Don't vote for strangers. Get your PVC and vote for the APC. In Kogi State, we have only one party and that is the APC,"  he said.

Governor Abiodun used the opportunity to welcome the thousands of defectors from opposition parties, who had just declared on Sunday for the APC, saying they had taken the best decision to stay with the winning train in the interest of the state's sustained development.

The defectors were from the People's Democratic Party, Labour Party, Social Democratic Party, Accord Party and the African Democratic Congress, among others.

The Campaign Council Chairman maintained that, with the massive defection into the APC from the opposition political parties, it was clear that Ododo would emerge victorious.

The National Chairman of the APC, Abdullahi Ganduje, called for the unity of APC members in the coming Governorship election and urged the people of the state to shun ethnicity, stressing that what everyone should look forward to is the victory party for the APC.

"Without mincing words. The only party in Kogi is the APC. We have all it takes to mobilise massively for the APC Governorship Candidate.
I'm looking forward to a victory party because we parade the best candidate who has uniting the people as his priority. Let's shun tribalism and ethnicity," Ganduje stated.

Governor Yahaya Bello said he thanked God that he had been able to place the State on the path of sustained development.

"Within the period of service to the people of the State, I have built and improved infrastructure, security, and recently made education in the state free at all levels in public, primary and secondary schools. I'm proud to state that we are leaving Kogi State better than we met it for those that will govern after us," he said.

"Without exaggeration, APC will win the November 11 Governorship election, landslide. This is because our work, achievements and our party will speak for us. Kogi is APC and APC is Kogi State," he added.

In his remarks, the Governorship Candidate, Ododo, promised to build on the outstanding achievements of Governor Bello, assuring the people that, if elected, their welfare would be his administration's priority.

"I'm promising more youth and women inclusiveness in governance. My agenda for the State is Kogi Agenda. I will not disappoint our leader and father, President Bola Tinubu; I will not disappoint my mentor, Alhaji Yahaya Bello; I will not disappoint our party and I will not disappoint the good people of Kogi State. We will consolidate on the achievements of my leader in the state and strive towards continuity and sustainability in the areas of security, education, agriculture, and improved infrastructure, amongst several areas the APC administration has made a mark," he said.

He concluded that his mandate would be for the overall development of the State, stressing the improvement in the achievements of Governor Bello and in the wellbeing of his people as his priority.

The Muhammadu Buhari Civic Centre, Lokoja, one of the sterling achievements of Governor Yahaya Bello of Kogi State, could not contain the crowd that struggled to witness the historic inauguration of the All Progressives Congress Governorship Campaign and presentation of flag to the candidate of the party, Usman Ododo.

As early as 9am, supporters, clad in different uniforms to distinguish their groups, as well as stakeholders from all the 21 Local Government Areas of the state, trooped along the streets towards the Civic Centre in a way that suggested that a huge carnival was about to take place in the Confluence State.

Over 70 Civil Society Organisations (CSOs) have called on the Inspector-General of Police (IGP), Kayode Egbetokun, and the Governor of Kogi State, Yahaya Bello, to urgently ensure that politicians stoking violence in the state with inciting statements and political brigandage that have led to loss of lives and property are made to face the law.

The CSOs specifically called on the IGP to declare the governorship candidate of the Social Democratic Party (SDP), Muritala Ajaka, wanted, if he continues to ignore Police invitations for investigations  into acts of political violence in the state, moves about with "suspected thugs armed to the teeth" and undermines security efforts of the Police and other agencies as stated in a recent statement by the Kogi State Police Command.

The Coalition for Credible Elections in Nigeria (CCE), Kogi State Young Professionals, and concerned civic organisations, staged a peaceful walk in Abuja on Saturday, after submitting a petition to the IGP, titled, "PETITION FOR A THOROUGH INVESTIGATION INTO POLITICAL VIOLENCE IN KOGI STATE AND THE ROLE OF SDP GOVERNORSHIP CANDIDATE, MR MURTALA YAKUBU AJAKA".

They displayed placards with inscriptions such as "Anyone who ignores Police invitations must be arrested immediately", "arrest and prosecute killers of Khadijat now", "Gov. Bello, don't be soft on promoters of violence", "we demand peaceful elections in Kogi State", and "IGP must declare Ajaka wanted now", among others.

Addressing the press on behalf of others during the road walk, the Coordinator,
Coalition for Credible Elections, Comrade Israel Abiodun, noted that the major focus of the Peace Walk for Kogi State and material focus of the Coalition's petition to the IGP was the political violence being allegedly orchestrated by some politicians, ahead of the November 11 governorship election in the state.

The Coordinator was flanked by Barrister Jeff Uwaifo, Hajia Aisha Ibrahim and Comrade Fatimah Qudus.

He said, "We are concerned that the Police in Kogi State have mentioned one of the Parties' Governorship candidates in person of Mr. Muritala Ajaka of the Social Democratic Party, whose actions, the authorities said, had been undermining security efforts in the state.

"The Police, in a recent statement, said he had been invited on several occasions, just like other candidates, in line with investigations into allegations of violence but that he had refused to honour the invitations, yet, up till now, he has not been declared wanted when we all know that he doesn't have constitutional immunity but already acting above the law."

The CSOs also demanded justice for Khadijat Yahaya, a female All Progressives Congress (APC) supporter, who was allegedly killed by SDP thugs, saying that the claim by the SDP that the harmless lady was a thug did not make any sense, particularly coming from a party, whose candidate had been accused by the Police of moving around with "suspected thugs armed to the teeth".

They quoted the Kogi State Police Command as saying, "His (Muritala Yakubu) riding rough-shod and engaging in political brinkmanship and brigandage is an ill-wind that blows no one any good. For instance on the complaint of Breach of Security Against The Executive Governor of Kogi State at Banda on 3rd June, 2023, the SDP Candidate, Murtala Yakubu Ajaka, has consistently refused to honour Police several invitations to give his own side of the story!

"Again, since he applied for Police Security, he was invited to come but till date, he refused to show up, he moves around with a retinue of suspected political thugs armed to the teeth. Consequently, the above facts and scenario, coupled with his recalcitrance and obduracy have continued to jeopardise Police Investigation and maintenance of law and order in the State."

The CSOs, therefore, said, "It is for this reason that we are calling on the Nigeria Police Force to declare Mr Ajaka wanted if he fails to honour Police invitation, moves around with armed thugs, undermines security efforts and constitutes a threat to the peace of Kogi State, as has been said. Not acting on these allegations does not speak well of the fight against crime and political brigandage in Nigeria.

"We can't have a situation whereby anyone will be acting with impunity while people are dying. The young lady, Khadijat Yahaya, who was murdered in cold-blood allegedly by SDP thugs cannot be allowed to die like that without proper investigations, arrest and prosecution of culprits.

"The SDP managers have, unfortunately, labelled this lady a thug. She must get justice. We wonder how a man accused of moving around with 'thugs armed to the teeth' would turn around to call an innocent soul a thug.

"Mr. Ajaka has been fond of promoting ethnic divisions and supporting violence even by Police admissions and he cannot be allowed to continue riding roughshod on Kogi State without the intervention of security agencies."

A former House of Representatives member who represented Idah Federal Constituency in Kogi State, Hon. Ismail Inah Hussein, popularly known as Soul Lover, has dumped the Peoples Democratic Party for the All Progressives Congress, along with hundreds of supporters.

Soul Lover was on Friday dressed and decorated with APC’s robes by the Kogi State Party Chairman, Abdullahi Bello, in Ajaka, Igalamela-Odolu Local Government Area, as a sign that he had fully pitched his tent with the ruling party.

Inah, a dedicated member of PDP in Kogi State, attributed his decision to join the APC to his desire to contribute to the development of Kogi State and the country as a whole.

He said the APC government, under Governor Yahaya Bello, had instituted unity, security and overall development of the state, hence, his decision to support the APC governorship candidate, Alhaji Usman Ododo, for consolidation.

Speaking during his admission into the party, witnessed by a mammoth crowd, the heavyweight political leader in Kogi East vowed to mobilise massively for his new party and ensure that APC wins overwhelmingly in the November 11 governorship election.

Also decamping was the former Women Leader of the PDP in Igalamela LGA, as well as the women leaders of the wards in the area.

The Commissioner for Transportation in Kogi State, Baron Okwoli, in his address, commended Inah and his followers for their decision to join the APC and assured that they would work together to ensure victory for the party.

Similarly, the Deputy Governorship Candidate, Joel Oyibo, said he was impressed by the high turnout at the ceremony to receive the former lawmaker. He noted that the attendance was evidence that people believed strongly in the APC despite propaganda by opposition parties.

He assured the people of Igalamela-Odolu and the entire state that the governorship candidate, Usman Ododo, when elected, would consolidate on the unity, security and infrastructural development instituted by Governor Yahaya Bello.

The state party chairman welcomed the former lawmaker and his supporters, and expressed the confidence that the APC would win, landslide, in the forthcoming election.

He assured of victory for APC in Igalamela-Odolu and urged the new members to remain steadfast and committed to party functions with a promise of equal opportunities alongside existing party members.

The Kogi State All Progressives Congress Governorship Campaign Council has called on security agencies to fish out those responsible for the unfortunate killing of a harmless female supporter of the party in Kotonkarfe Local Government Area of Kogi State and bring them to book to serve as deterrent to other criminals.

While commiserating with the family of the deceased, the people of Kotonkarfe and Kogites in general, the Campaign Council said the Social Democratic Party rally, in which the woman was allegedly murdered by thugs loyal to the Governorship Candidate, was a satanic ambush on the peace-loving people of Kotonkarfe.

The Director, Media and Publicity/Spokesman of the Campaign Council, Kingsley Fanwo, who spoke at the inaugural press briefing of the Council on Monday, noted that those "who threatened to kill and went ahead to kill have undoubtedly declared war on the Nigerian state", and must face the law.

He said while the APC candidate, Usman Ododo, had remained uncompromisingly committed to an issue-based campaign, devoid of violence, ethnocentric narratives or divisive tendencies, the Campaign of the SDP Candidate, Muritala Yakubu, had been divisive and inciting.

According to the Campaign Council, Yakubu's statements have been unguarded, inflammatory and acidic, and even the security agencies and well meaning Nigerians have taken note of this.

The Council, however, called on APC supporters to remain calm, noting that it was sure that the security agencies would not allow killers to walk freely without consequences.

The Kogi APC Campaign Council urged the public to do independent surveys on the strength of candidates jostling for the governorship seat in the state, saying an objective poll would reveal that the SDP candidate, even among those contesting from Igala land, was nowhere near the top contenders.

"The reason is that the good people of Igala land, having followed his activities over the years, and knowing that he lacks the intellectual capacity to represent them, would rather go with responsible candidates," the Council said.

Fanwo said the SDP candidate would be thoroughly defeated at the polls and would still have to account for his alleged "sins against humanity."

The Council stated, "The initial statement of the Police authorities have been reassuring. There must be justice for the murdered soul. It is high time Kogites called the blood-sucking campaign of the SDP to order. Elections are won on the ballot and not via the bullet. Even in the face of glaring provocation, our party and our campaign will remain peaceful and play according to the rules of the game.

"The unguarded, inflammatory and acidic statements of the SDP candidate, Alh. Muritala Yakubu Ajaka on national television have not gone unnoticed. What is of surprise to us is how he gets away after calling a whole ethnic group “a common enemy”. He also said they were ready for violence.

"His campaign has been divisive and inciting, yet he walks around spreading the propaganda of him being hunted. They commit visible crimes and turn around to play the victims.

"The quietness of the law enforcement agencies has emboldened him to spill the blood of an innocent woman. His desperation in the face of looming humiliation at the polls has undoubtedly put him in a very dangerous corner. Only Muritala Yakubu and the thugs he moves around with think he has a chance.

"Conduct your poll in Kogi State today, even in Igaland, you will find that he is not even near the top two contenders in the forthcoming governorship election. The reason is that the good people of Igaland, having followed his activities over the years, and knowing that he lacks the intellectual capacity to represent them, would rather go with responsible candidates.

"He is not even near the list of hopeful contenders. He will be roundly defeated at the Poll and he will still account for his sins against humanity."

Fanwo also pointed out that the attention of the Council had been drawn to calls, by those he described as hired guns, on the Director General of the Campaign Council to resign his appointment, citing divisive reasons.

He said the Campaign Council DG, Prince Shaibu Abubakar Audu, had already made clear, his commitment to executing a campaign that would usher in the Ododo era of consolidation and continuity.

"No amount of ethnic parroting can distract the politically sagacious Minister of Steel Development, HM Prince Shuaibu Abubakar Audu, from the historic task ahead. His late father, Prince Abubakar Audu, was committed to a united, prosperous and peaceful Kogi State. The Director General is only following his footsteps," he said.

Gentlemen of the Press

1.Our Candidate for the November 11, 2023 Governorship election, Alh. Ahmed Usman Ododo has remained uncompromisingly committed to an issue-based campaign that is devoid of violence, ethnocentric narratives or divisive tendencies.

Under the leadership of the Campaign Chairman, His Excellency Alh Yahaya Bello, CON, and the Director General, HM Prince Shuaibu Abubakar Audu, our Campaign has been peaceful, uniting and a true reflection of the enduring legacies that have kept our party at the apex of political performance in our dear state.

2.Issue-based campaign entails tailoring our promises, assurances and social contract with the peace-loving people of our dear state through the media to the people. Ododo Ahmed Usman, OAU, wants the people of the state to be convinced by the legacies of the system he served in, his promises of consolidation and continuity, his antecedents and competence, as well as his message of unity. His clip to these ideals is iron cast.

3.We have invited you today to brief you of certain developments as we race to November 11, 2023. Chief among them was the gruesome murder of an unarmed woman at Kotonkarfe by people suspected to be the armed thugs of the candidate of the Social Democratic Party, Alh. Muritala Yakubu Ajaka. While we commiserate with the family and the entire people of Kotonkarfe; we call on security agencies to ensure that those who threatened to kill and went ahead to kill have undoubtedly declared war on the Nigerian state, whose responsibility it is to protect the poor woman who was killed by bullets from the barrels of the SDP riffles.

4.It is on record that the SDP Candidate already said the Commissioner of Police was not aware of his rally. The rally was a satanic ambush on the peace-loving people of Kotonkarfe, leaving in its wake, the blood of an innocent woman whose only sin was belonging to the All Progressives Congress. We call on the supporters of our party to remain calm as security agencies are trusted to ensure that killers don’t walk freely without consequences. The Kogi State APC Campaign Council will await the full reports of the security agencies.

7.In his characteristic way, the SDP candidate through his media handlers had claimed the poor woman was bearing arm. But they never showed us the arm she was bearing. The claim was a desperate attempt at sweeping the murder they committed under the carpet. You don’t kill the people who hold a contrary belief to yours. It was crude, criminal and callous.

8.Also, our attention has been drawn to calls by some hired guns, calling on the Director General of the Campaign Council to resign his appointment, citing divisive reasons for the call. The Director General of the Campaign Council is committed to executing a campaign that will usher in the Ododo era of consolidation and continuity.

9.On the Supreme Court case between our Candidate and Sen. Smart Adeyemi, we have chosen not to be involved in prejudice, hence we will not make any serious comments on it. It is before a competent court of jurisdiction and they will determine whether his claims are justiciable or not. Our lawyers have shown proofs of the fact that primary was held. The lower court and the Appeal Court agreed with them. We will await the Supreme Court verdict.

Police in Kogi have accused Murtala Yakubu Ajaka, SDP governorship candidate, of undermining security efforts in the state. This was in reaction to the circumstances that led to the killing of a politician in Kotonkarfe LGA of the state, on Saturday.

The police, in a statement issued by its Public Relations Officer in Kogi, SP William Ovye Aya, on behalf of the Commissioner of Police, said the command received a report where “some persons were said to have been killed and injured in the process through political violence.”

While assuring the people of the state that no stone would be left unturned to secure lives and property, the CP condemned, acts by some politicians, who he said had taken it upon themselves to cause mayhem and heat up the state through “their unguarded utterances and unregulated activities”.

Saying the SDP candidate “moves around with a retinue of suspected political thugs armed to the teeth.”

According to the CP, while other parties have been carrying the Police along in their activities, “the SDP Candidate has consistently and vehemently refused to honour any of Police invitations for investigation, or inform the Commissioner of Police nor the Command while embarking on political rallies.”

The statement said the CP had directed the Deputy Commissioner of Police, Criminal Investigation Department (SCID), to commence an investigation of all acts of political violence, accusations and counter-accusations on all the Political Parties and Actors with a view to bringing offenders to book.
