People just criticize for the love of it. This Atleti team was made to look ordinary at home in the full glare of their fans after their underhand antics in ticket sales. I like this barca highline, it's very difficult to breach. I used to think a fast attack will destroy that defence but seeing Umtiti's recovery and timely interceptions is making me have a rethink. Maybe the key is making overhead passes but Umtiti's aerial Dominance will most likely come to the rescue. Umtiti seriously needs a serious partner. Piqué no be am at all. See how he dobale for Griezmann. 5 Likes |

The game isn't as bad as many of you are making it sound. That goal did a whole lot of good to Atletico. If it hadn't come when it did, barca would have won the match with a comfortable margin. I'm very concerned about deulofeu's apparent lack of a functioning brain though, not barca quality at all. |

soetanoreoluwa:Nigeria Football Federation, NFF will extend the contract of Super Eagles coach, Gernot Rohr, after Nigeria sealed qualification for the Russia 2018 FIFA World Cup. Rohr, signed a two-year contract, while accepting the job in 2016 with the option of extending the deal, if Nigeria qualifies for the World Cup. Rohr will now be in charge of the team till the 2019 Africa Cup of Nations, if there are no twists in his romance with the NFF. Speaking on the development, Rohr, 64, said he was glad Nigeria qualified for the World Cup as they were not given the chance to pick the ticket when the qualification series started with Cameroon and Algeria as bookmakers’ favourite to clinch the ticket. “I believe Russia 2018 will be a good adventure for us all,” the German, who previously coached Burkina Faso said. Rohr thanked Nigerians for the feat saying it was a collective effort, “Thank you Nigerians, we won this World Cup ticket together.” NFF secretary-general, Mohammed Sanusi said the Super Eagles will have the best of preparations for the World Cup. “We are excited and as this Board has continued to promise, it is not just about qualification. We will ensure the best preparation for the team to set a new record of performance for Nigeria at the FIFA World Cup when they go to Russia next year.” https://www.vanguardngr.com/2017/10/rohr-earn-two-years-contract-extension/ 1 Like |

TheGoodJoe:Our forwards should press as a unit. Presently, only Iheanacho does that upfront. At a point in the Algeria game he was starting to look stupid, I think someone even coined it as "running up and down like a headless chicken. I like Iheanacho and etebo for this. You can never overstate the immense pressure the opposing side face when every member of a team plays a part in pressing. If you watched pep's barca, you'd appreciate this. 2 Likes |

cromz:It's not as easy as it sounds. Because that is not a like for like sub, you'll not only be substituting the player simon, you'll also be discarding completely that right wing. Yes we know Ighalo roams and sometimes find himself on the right wing but that is just as much as his wing appearances go. He won't drop back to assist the full backs, and he'll not be found deep to launch a sprinting counter attack. This also puts alot of work on our midfielders as our attacks would have to come from the middle. It also makes it pretty predictable. So you see, to play Ighalo and Iheanacho together, we need to make a whole lot of sacrifices. Question is, would it be worth it? 1 Like |

Iheanacho thrives off spaces, Ighalo draws defenders aside, creating spaces. An ideal option would be to combine them but that would mean sacrificing an important offensive player. A very difficult decision, I tell you. 4 Likes |

tbaba1234:Even at that, that would have been an issue of technique, not speed as some are trying to make it seem. But Yea, that would have been a viable option. I have been critical before about Ighalo's inability to press and mentioned that as an edge Iheanacho has over him. But on that particular occasion, I didn't see any better option. Well, except the one you just mentioned. |

jobsat34:That's the point. If he moves before the pass, he goes into an offside position, offsides are read at the moment the Passer touches the ball. If you watch that particular play, you'd notice Ighalo sprinted after the pass. Now if you have played football you know how fast that round leather moves, especially when you apply a significant amount of force. 3 Likes |

One can argue that Rohr is conservative but I like the staring line up. Except maybe for echiejile, I think this line up would get the job done. I expect the celebration to start from the pitch. It therefore is in order to let the business men take care of business, score 2-3 goals before the 60minute mark, then bring in our entertainers, our artists to start the celebration from the pitch. Iwobi for Simon, etebo for Onazi, Iheanacho for ighalo. These three, with their dribbling skills and passing ability will entertain us for the last 30minutes while the orchestra that is the fans, will spice things up with their oohhh oohhh ahhh ahhh shouts. Soar Eagles, Soar. |

Iwobi Sr on the Tammy Abraham saga "The simple answer is there is a lot of misconceptions trying to do that. We also saw it when we first switched. For a player who has been in abroad for the better part of his years there are always going to be so many difficulties” “My answer has always been come and see for yourself and don’t make assumptions. We came, we saw and we are here. Obviously there are ways to improve on but it’s not about that and the positives surpass the negatives.'' “I’m sure every father will be proud to see his son play for his country of birth”, OGN It is quite clear these foreign born players are swayed by the bad press surrounding our football. I don't blame them, we always loud our shortcomings and whisper our progress. The bad news travels far, the good news rarely cross the boarders. The media has a role in this regard, the onus lies on them to propagate the gospel of the rebranded national team. The Aiteo deal is a big cop for the NFF. There has been an improvement in players welfare, these are the kind of news we should share with the world. A player turning his back on the country that trained him should at least know that he is turning into the arms of a nation that cares. 12 Likes 1 Share |
