Just a quick one.
Guys wanting to contact the Alien office should always try to be patient for atleast 4weeks before doing so. Dont get me wrong i have been in the shoes before, I had to wait 6weeks before doing so. Lets not abuse the system.

Dear Sir,

thank you for your e-mail.

You do not need an appointment for coming for submission of your application for opening of a blocked account, but can do so Mo.-Wed. between 8.00-11.00 a.m. For further information on this issue, please see the attached information sheet.

Regarding your second question, please be informed about the following:

If your Master`s Program starts soon after the examination (only a few weeks), you can stay in Germany until the program starts. If there is more time in between the examination and the actual beginning of the program, you are advised to apply for a Schengen (visitor`s visa) to take the examination and come back to Nigeria to apply for a student visa once you have gained admission. Please note that it is not possible to stay in Germany permanently with a Schengen visa.

You also have the option to apply for a student applicant`s visa. This visa will allow you to stay in Germany for the duration of nine months in order to gain admission to a German university. If you do not manage to secure admission within these nine months`, you will have to leave Germany again. Otherwise, you can stay permanently. Please find attached an information leaflet regarding the requirements for such a visa. They are basically the same as for regular students visa, but apart from an admission letter, you present proof that you have already applied to one or more German universities or have been in touch with them. You should already be able to state at which university you would best like to study when applying for the visa.
When booking an appointment for a student applicant`s visa, please take care to explicitly state in your e-mail what type of visa you are applying for and attach proof of your application to a German university instead of the admission letter.

I hope to have been of assistance to you.

Mit freundlichen Grüßen / Sincerely yours

Its just like applying for a student visa for language school and you make inquiry from the embassy, they will gladly provide you with the necessary information but you wont get the visa in the end. its very simple, When you get a student applicant visa from Nigeria or you see someone who got the visa come back and argue. Until then i rest my case.

What is your proof?
If you ask for mine, I will give you because I got the same invitation from the same department and I wrote to the embassy asking for the way forward. It was the embassy that informed me about the study applicant visa that it is the process. I opened my account with it and was given an appointment date and before the date I got a proper admission. This is my proof. So what is your proof? Is it here say?
Bros you have provided no proof because you didnt go through the whole process, meanwhile the burden of proof lies on you. I wont say more than have said.

In this case u are wrong... A lot of people do this procedure. All schools are different. And the invitation letter from the school says it all. Most times the school goes as far as to contact the aliens office and the embassy. It's very possible to get that visa. Don't say it's easy though. The embassy in Lagos to be honest , are not people friendly. But with the right aproach, and an invitation from the school and all other necessary documents, it should work. I've heard that it does. And the chances of u not getting admitted are slim to be honest. Even if u fail there might be other options...
@ Rayhut is right..... student applicant visa is not applicable to Nigeria. What he says is the exact response you will get from the embassy.

I don't know where people get this RAM as Molue.... Funny what people say at times. I flew RAM in May to Berlin and i had a very nice trip with meal. Two 23kg with 10kg hand luggage, I spent less than 1hr in Casablanca and 12hrs in total while a friend that used Qatar airline pay higher and spent 22hrs in total. The choice of Airline is yours depending on what you want.

What happens when one default in the monthly insurance payment? Do you get penalized or will your insurance get cancelled?

what happened to this question?

For private you get a 14days grace to pay or your insurance is cancelled. for Public you can not terminate until after 6months (dunno what will happen if you default in their case).

yeah! that's why I was asking because of conflicting reports from different cities. More ever, it will be better to apply while your account is still very heavy since its one of the things some offices may look at in the process of your renewal. By the way all offices provides a temporary working permit for around 13 euros pending when the much more permanent one is ready but if one doesn't request they won't grant it and many students don't know this provisions exist.
Na you for do this interview today o...but somebody don ask you before na...make I no stress my boss
Here you get your resident and work permit immediately and very day of your appointment. So am not sure that provision applies.

Insightful, brother. There are not many people on this thread in Berlin. It beats me why public institutions there have deviated from the tuition-free policy in Germany. They all require you to cough out 4000-5000 per semester.
NB: This premise was arrived at based on my search for MSc programmes in Engineering.
Probably you are applying to private institutions

Eke40seven:

In essence, wait till your 3 months visa from Nigeria is about to expire before you renew?

And for further clarifications, one can work with the 3 months visa from Nigeria pending when the much more permanent work permit is out, or do people in your own area take up a temporary one?
I have gotten conflicting and confusing views on this, may be its based on location.
Please and please don't try this in Berlin, less you risk not getting appointment to get your resident permit. Nobody will give you job without your resident and work permit, you will only delay your hustle. Also, here in Berlin you get 2 years straight and it doesn't matter when you applied, it starts reading from the day your visa was issued or from the day you left Nigeria depending on who attend to you.

Everything here is by appointment (even to open a bank account) unlike other small city where you can work up there and be attended to.

Thank you very much for the beautiful responses.I really appreciate it.Bro!I have these few questions:
1.You said you don't have any German certificate, what level of German proficiency do you think you are now,A2/B1?

2.You said you left one job for another. Why?What has been the monthly wage? Has the new job been stable?are most student jobs stable?Thx
I can't really say the level as i dont know what A2/B1 entails but i still de learner sha

I didn't say i left one job for another, i said i got a 2nd job (meaning i have 2 jobs). what you get at the end of the month depends on the hours you work in a month but averagely you should get 450euros.

boss weldone oh.... how germo weather iyaff devoured your posts very informative.... just like eke40seven abi say nah obiwann can't remember now i wan do interview for you

1) can you please tell us how studying there is like( group assignments? impromptu tests? how many hours of study? how to join work and study)

2) how easy was it for you to get a job and what were the skills need for you to land u a job did u have an A1 German certification

3)how's feeding there like apart from eating our African foods u dey chop leaves...... lol? found out that they have different kinds of bread

4) how's shopping like i mean like buying cloths getting gadgets at cheap prices... say okrika market dey? abi say computer village dey where thing are cheap

5) don't mind me on this question oh... how dem Internet facilities be.. like browsing what's the price range... like for home and fones

6) lastly what will you advise someone here to perfect before coming over maybe to enroll in a training and get certificate apart from German language proficiency to increase chances of getting employed.....

em how easy is it getting to neighboring countries too

danke schon
Eke40seven is actually the interviewer. Sorry for the late response, its exams period and i had one yesterday. To the questions;

1) I think it depends on the course you are studying. For me, i have little or no assignments but more of presentations which entails lot of group work and no such things as impromptu test, we are even asked when we want our deadlines to be. We should just stop trying to compare education in Nigeria and here, the gap is just too wide. Work and study is not very easy especially when you are in a very demanding course and you intend to graduate with good grades but it is doable.

2) Actually i don't know how best to answer this but i will try not to make it look too easy. I do not have any language certificate but i started learning German online ever since i had the mind to study in Germany, its safe to say i understand German to some extent which actually helped. I got my 1st Job in less than 1month and the 2nd in less than 3months even though some people keep saying there is no job in the East. What actually did the magic for me is my openness to every Nigerian student i met here and the kind of people i met on ground (Big up to Topeajis once again, the guy is a real nigga).

3) Two major food in this part of Germany or maybe in general (not sure) Bread and Potatoes with lots of tomatoes and different leaves. Am an open person so i love to try everything but mostly, i do African food because it makes you spend less with Doner (Turkish) as a supporting striker.

4) If you are lucky enough to be here in August or early September, you will still meet summer sales and get cloths really cheap. you can always get your gadget from ebay or amazon (both new & old). As for okirika, Second hand store full everywhere.

5) Internet at home is really cheap depending on whether you want to have your own router(24euros) or you want to share with your apartment mates (5-10euros monthly). I share with my mates and i pay 5euros. Except you have a contract phone, on the go internet is quite expensive (9-24euros) meanwhile you have free internet in school.

6) - Be open minded, drop your sentiment and forming at the airport grin.
- Language is very very important e.g NO or LITTLE LANGUAGE = No or Menial Jobs, Just like someone said earlier, Perfect your Language and find yourself in paradise.
- Perfect your IT or Artisan Skills
- Even with the language and other skills you have, sometimes what you get is a function of the kind of people you meet. Relate with the right set of people.

7) About countries, with your resident permit/visa, you can travel 26 countries visa free in Europe and travelling elsewhere isn't really a problem.

I think have done justice to all the questions.

Disclaimer - I answered all the questions based on how have experienced Germany in Berlin and i tried as much as possible not to generalize.

Got admission into Rostock university. Anybody going to Rostock or have an idea how the place is like? Concerning jobs n living cost of living? Please help out....
I visited the city and the university itself like a month ago, quite lovely and beautiful, its by the baltic sea, borders Wernamude which has an nude beach (lovely? grin)... It is four hours from Berlin by bus. It is not quite big but attract lots of tourist. Most company i saw there are ship building company as it is by the sea (getting a job there shouldn't be a problem).

I spent just 3days there and it was a wonderful experience in all but as they say "visiting a place isn't the same as living there". Others who know about the place or live there can contribute too.

[quote author=Cindino20 post=36049136]

@Cindino20 i agree with your view but will like to point out some things;

Most times public insurance does not cover everything too. A friend using T.K (public) also visited an Hospital just two days ago because of catarrh, his bills was 47euros and to his surprise he was asked to pay 7euros because he was given a 7euros drug that the insurance does not cover.

Another thing is private don't refund partly, they refund fully up to a certain threshold (will confirm the threshold), a friend using Mawista (private) doctor/hospital bill has never passed 200euros and he gets full refund at the end of the month and also there is no stress in emailing your bills to the insurance, you just mail and they refund automatically at the end of the month (atleast for Mawista).

Public or Private, it depends on how you experience it and the choice is yours to make people

Hello, i'm new to this forum and i've read some past pages. I'm planning on applying for masters against next year winter. Finished service in June 2014.

My major concern is how to go with a spouse and the amount needed in the blocked account. Also, is it advisable to apply for both of us by march when the admission would come out or I should apply for myself alone? This is because my wedding would be coming up by August 2016 and there's no tie to prove the relationship till then. Or should I go ahead with my own application and process for my spouse after the wedding. I will appreciate your responses. Thanks

Cc: Obiwannn adenjnr
I do not see this as a problem
1stly, you need 8k for yourself and 4k for your spouse (another 4k for a child.... if you have one)

2ndly, you can do a court marriage now, collect the certificate and pictures or pictures from your introduction (if you have done one). You can also collect your call log from your network provider, different pictures you guys have snapped together (birthday pics, occassions you attended together) depending on how long you guys have been together (the longer the better)

Lastly, If you have the money (12k) and the proof, its better you process the two together because if you process yours 1st, Family Reunion Visa takes up to 9months sometimes.

WAIT OOOOOO! YOU ARE ON POINT SHA! MY SCHOOL RECOGNIZES MAWISTA AS A PRIVATE HEALTH INSURANCE. BUT E BE LIKE EVERY BODY DEY USUALLY DO PUBLIC HEALTH INSURANCE WHICH IS USUALLY MORE EXPENSIVE.
YOU GUYS HOW FAR? WHICH WAY?
WHAT 'S THE WAY FORWARD ON TO THIS HEALTH INSURANCE STUFF.

PRIVATE OR PUBLIC??

ONTO WHICH PRIVATE NA AROUND £33 AND PUBLIC NA AT LEAST £80 ON THE REG.

ADVICE PLS.

My DEPARTMENT SECRETARY SENT ME A MAIL Saying THEY WORK WITH TK HEALTH INSURANCE SHA. SHE EVEN SENT THE APPLICATION FORMS FOR TK INSURANCE FEW DAYS AGO . TK INSURANCE NA £81.31 PER MONTH SHA.. SHE SAID I CAN REGISTER HERE IN NIGERIA BY SCANNING AND SENDING THE APPLICATION FORMS TO TK INSURANCE. I CONFIRMED THAT.

It depends on your health status even though your school will always advice you to take up the public insurance. The only clear difference between Public and Private Health Insurance in Germany is that you do not pay a dine when you visit the Doctor or Hospital when you take up a Public Health Insurance while you pay 1st and the insurance repays you in the case of Private.

Personally, i use Private Mawista to be precise and i never even couch for Deutschland (I know myself that the only sickness i do have in Naija is malaria and no mosquito to bite me here in Deutschland but you never can tell). If you do not fall sick regularly and seriously abeg take the Private otherwise, take the Public.

Bro..be careful with the advice given about using your student transcript oo.. In many schools, a student transcript is simply a ststement of result, and if UNILAG where I graduated from is anything to go by, the statement of result is an almost useless document: It only lists the course codes of the courses that you took without listing the course titles. This kinda document will be useless to the admissions committee because they will be unable to evaluate your performance.

My advice is this: Apply for an official transcript from your school and have them send it to another university or polytechnic here in Nigeria where you know someone. Then let that person pick it up for you. That copy that you now have is what you should use for all your applications. Schools like TU Munich may even reject a transcript sent directly from your school because it contains no seal.

My two cents. I hope it helps
Be careful of the advice you give to people too. There is a clear different between Statement of Results and Student Copy Transcript. A Student Copy Transcript will suffice anywhere in the world except otherwise stated by the receiving institution. This is what i have been using, all i did was to certify it.

I agree with you not all business are registered but "family business" in the context in which you used it is at least expected to be registered. You see the embassy didn't even ask for Tax Clearance or Company's Statement of Account, It asked for the least "Proof of Registration"
Travel / Re: General German Visa Enquiries Part 2 by adenjnr(m): 11:15pm On Jul 07, 2015
Guys please stop telling cheap lies at the embassy haba.

Let me also correct a notion - its not a most you say you are coming back to Nigeria after studies, you can say you want to do a Phd, you want to work and give back to the government/economy that has offered you free but quality education. I know more than enough people who said they are staying back and still got the visa.

@Obiwann you can also be attracted to Germany as your destination because of her robust economy depending on how you say it and the course you intend studying (if you intend studying any economy related course. you can't study Governance for example in a failed state of Somalia). As you have rightly said, whatever response you give, all that matters is your response to the follow up question.

eg. I want to stay in Germany after studies............ why?
I will come back to Nigeria after studies........ to do what?

Always check your intended course of study website to see where prospective graduate/alumni of the course work or can work.
