HealthHealth Sector Tussle: Why Physician Can't Lead by adeoladrg(op): 10:53pm On Jan 11, 2015
We cannot trample upon the humanity of others
without devaluing our own. He who will hold
another down in the mud must stay in the mud to
keep him down Please, can an educator or
someone who had a bachelor degree in education
claim to always be the most qualified for VC, DVC,
provost, registrar, deans, hods of a university
restraining others from attaining such positions? a.
Headship of; (i). Medical Laboratory Science
Service (ii). Radiography (iii) Optometry etc, where
Physicians are imposed as perpetual heads over
other Professionals such as Medical Laboratory
Scientists, Optometrists, Radiographers and others.
Since no profession is superior to another neither
anyone inferior to the other we disagree with this
recommendation for the following reasons:

i. It negates the provisions of the individual
regulatory body. ii. It is also contrary to the
provision of schemes of service In use in the
federation and public service rules on seniority. In
order to promote industrial peace and Professional
autonomy,

I strongly recommend that each of the recognized
profession be allowed to have its own substantive
head of department contrary to the
recommendation that the Pathologist shall be the
full Head of department while Medical Laboratory
Scientist shall be Technical head. This is
unacceptable. Pathology is not a profession.
Medical Lab Sci is a profession. Far be it from us
that practitioners of a profession become
answerable to practitioners of an ordinary
specialised field of medicine.

b. National Industrial
Court of Nigeria (NIC) had ruled expressly that
there is no conflict between MDP and MLSCN Acts.
Therefore, the Federal Ministry of Health and all
Tertiary Hospitals should obey the Court
judgement and implement it to the letter without
further delay. Anything short of this will amount to
disrespect of Court judgement, contempt of the
Court and invitation to anarchy.

Who is medically qualified? Medicine is the
science, art, and craft of understanding suffering,
its causes, and its remedies. Its skillful practice is
not limited to any one profession, geographic
locale, historical period, or ethnic group. It does
not require its practitioners to be of any particular
religious or spiritual practice.
The phrase "medically qualified" as contained in
section 5(2) of the Teaching Hospital Act which
provides that the Chief Medical Director should be
a person that is medically qualified. From all
available definitions locally, nationally and
internationally, we have discovered that the term
medically qualified is defined as follows;
i. By American Legal Institute it is defined as (a)
Physician, Physician Assistants, Nurses, Medical
Technicians or any person who is recognized by
American law as carrying blood and urine in the
Hospital. American Legal Institute.
ii. Section 8(6) of the Teaching Hospital Act refers
to medically qualified person namely; Medical
Doctors, Nurses, Pharmacists, Mid-Wives etc.
iii. The Mac Milan dictionary defines it as Medical
Doctors, Nurses and other Medical workers. May
be one will need to remove the word MEDICAL
from medical lab science profession.
I would love to know who is more medically
qualified between a physician who refuse to
specialise or the one who specialised in wrong
field and at the end of the day, all his entire role is
to take medical history and guess who should be
better called medical historian and others such as:
Medical laboratory scientists whose roles according
to MLSCN act no 11, 2003 involves the analysis of
human tissues, body fluids, excretions, production
of biologicals, design and fabrication of equipment
for the purpose of medical lab diagnosis, treatment
and research and includes medical microbiology,
clinical chemistry, chemical pathology,
haematology, blood transfusion science, virology,
histopathology, histochemistry, immunology,
cytogenetic, exfoliative cytology, parasitology,
forensic science, molecular biology, laboratory
management.

A physician can only be guessing and waste many
lives without the consultation of this professionals
because the fight against diseases and ill health
can only be won or lost in the medical laboratory.
A Nurse, according to oxford concise medical
dictionary is a person trained and experienced in
nursing matters and entrusted with the care of the
sick and the carrying out of medical and surgical
routines. Please how can we remove the word
medical and surgical from this definition? Not only
that.
Explain to me how a Physician knows how to care
for the sick than this professional?

A Pharmacist according to oxford concise medical
dictionary is a person who is qualified by
examination and registered and authorised to
dispense medicines or to keep open a shop for the
sale and dispensing of medicines. I need
somebody to tell me how a Physician will claim to
know about drugs more than this professionals
who have acquired in-depth knowledge of
pharmacodynamics, pharmacognosy,
pharmacokinetics, pharmacology, pharmacy?

Optometrists are healthcare professionals who
provide primary vision care ranging from sight
testing and correction to the diagnosis, treatment,
and management of vision changes.
An optometrist is not a medical doctor. An
optometrist receives a doctor of optometry (OD)
degree after completing four years of optometry
school, preceded by three years or more years of
college. They are licensed to practice optometry,
which primarily involves performing eye exams and
vision tests, prescribing and dispensing corrective
lenses, detecting certain eye abnormalities, and
prescribing medications for certain eye diseases.
Then I wonder why physicians are having serious
headache over the word \"doctor\" of optometry.

Radiographers take images of the insides of
patients bodies to diagnose injury or disease.
They also care for and treat people with cancer.
Radiographers look after people who are unwell or
in pain, and may be anxious or uncertain about
what is going to happen. They use their wide
range of skills and training to deliver a sensitive,
patient-focused healthcare service in imaging and
radiotherapy. Radiographers use high-tech,
expensive equipment and are an important part of
a large medical team.
Physiotherapists help and treat people with
physical problems caused by illness, accident or
ageing. It sees human movement as central to the
health and well-being of individuals and identify
and maximise movement through health
promotion, preventive healthcare, treatment and
rehabilitation.

A physiotherapist's core skills include manual
therapy, therapeutic exercise and the application of
electro-physical modalities. They also have an
appreciation of psychological, cultural and social
factors influencing their clients. And several other
medical professionals with well defined roles that
are not mentioned here.
The lazy ones blabbing among physicians are yet
to see the storms coming as Nigeria government
begins to appreciate the traditional and alternative
healthcare providers. The current leaders of
JOHESU are not as resolute as their young
members who will soon certainly get to the
leadership positions.

Nobody is arguing the importance of other health professionals. Doctors alone can't do all the work, even if they have the knowledge.
That every member of the Nigerian security force is important doesn't mean they should all be accorded the same status. It doesn't make sense. Our police is very important to us, but they can never be same as the army.
The pharmacy technician working with you is very important in your work, but will they be accorded the same status with you?
Medicine can never be placed on the same scale with med lab or radiography or optometry etc. It's not like that in other countries. Why should it be so in Nigeria?
And you might strike the cord well to tell which of the health professions want the same accord with medical doctors. Do you even know the root of the JOHESU strike?

That CMD position should be left opened to any health profession is a crime? More so, doctors still the head of clinical decisions.

An upgrade of CONHESS is a crime? While maintaining the relativity that has always been? Preach to me pls!

ILIDEFI:
And let me ask you, which other group of health professional would have saved the prof if present? Is it d nurses? In this kind of emergency, nurses skills are often irrelevant. They are only needed after patients have been stabilized.
Did your people not lock up all the important equipments when they went on strike? Despite all that patients are still being managed on outpatient basis, and a few being admitted. That is going on not minding that over 90% of the work force are not on ground.
We all agree everybody is important. The issue only arises when you want a radiographer for example to be equal to a radiologist or an optometrist to be equal to an ophthalmologist. That can never happen.
You will never understand the concept of collaboration if you keep talking trash like this.. See your life now, go back to the front page and see wah Alonge complained about, emergency! Guess what? Nurses, paramedics and even pharmacists are important tools in emergency together with the doctors. RIP to the prof.

See ehn, healthcare is like football! Every member of team is as important as the other.
HealthRe: JOHESU Strike Claims Nigeria’s Only Neuropathologist by adeoladrg(m):
RIP to the prof.

I really don't want to sound insensitive or smth. But when the medical doctors were on strike and people were dying, they did make insensitive statements. Like 'doctors are the only important members of the health team' 'if johesu goes on strike, they won't be missed because doctors are on ground' 'they know a little of lab tech, nursing, pharmacy' bla bla bla.

Foolish set of Homo sapiens, why couldn't you save what was left of our only neuropathologist? I thought you were 'demigods' and have mystical powers to save lives? Why blame his death on JOHESU now? The joke is on you and the GEJ led FG that has no value for human lives.

The moment we begin to understand that healthcare is collaborative like it is in saner climes, is the moment we'll begin to treat each health profession on its own. Prof's death(tho sad) is a reminder to that effect. Don't quote me pls!

I know the roles of a pharmacist, atleast to some extent. Maybe I didn't state that well enough.
My concern is that I thought I should have been able to decide what part of pharm practice I will take in future by now. But u have said something I can hold on to.
I think you need to work in all of the practice settings and decide which one fits the cap for you. I worked in a community pharmacy during the 6 months ASUU strike long enough to know that it's not for me. So, I can move on and try other settings.

There are two categories of pharmacy students.
1) Those that have made up their minds about the practice settings they want. I know one who wants to go into the military. I know a senior who wants to go into politics. And so on

2) Those, like you and I, who don't have an idea what pharmacy holds for us.

He that by faith chooses God for his protector, shall find all in him that he needs or can desire. And those who have found the comfort of making the Lord their refuge, cannot but desire that others may do so. The spiritual life is protected by Divine grace from the temptations of Satan, which are as the snares of the fowler, and from the contagion of sin, which is a noisome pestilence. Great security is promised to believers in the midst of danger.
Wisdom shall keep them from being afraid without cause, and faith shall keep them from being unduly afraid. Whatever is done, our heavenly Father's will is done; and we have no reason to fear. God's people shall see, not only God's promises fulfilled, but his threatenings.

If a doctor makes a mistake, he can only kill a patient one at a time.

If a pharmacist makes a mistake with an oral or parenteral preparation, he can kill thousands at a time. Don't forget the 'mypikin' paracetamol syrup incidence that happened years ago. Although it's was a 'label' issue. Ethylene glycol was used as co-solvent instead of propylene glycol. Over 100 babies died, the rest is history. Do you want to tell me which is more sensitive?

Truth is, we are suffering from not having enough pharmacists and pressure has been on PCN to accredit more pharmacy schools. Although it's hard, pharmacy schools don't just prop up the way medical schools do. It's a more sensitive calling as a mistake could claim thousands of lives. Happy new year!

Shariah was mentioned 73 times, Grand
Khadi 54 times, Islam 28 times , Muslims
10 times and there is no single mention
of Christ, Christian, Christianity or
church which they described as unfair
treatment of Christians and Christianity
in the country and Issue which if not
consciously disallowed will
cataclysmically destroy the existence of
Nigeria. These members gave a detailed
analysis of how the Nigerian constitution
did not have any mention of Christianity
or the church, but Islam was repeatedly
mentioned. He also argued that the
adoption of a particular religion by states
must be done away with, adding that in
a country like Nigeria, neutrality was
needed. He said since Islamic courts had
been created, it was only normal to
extend the hands of fellowship to
Christianity in order to create a fair state.
But they were shut down by a former
Governor of Kebbi State, Adamu Aliero,
citing Order 9 rule 7 raised a point of
order as if the matter is of no use. There
was a deadlock, The Muslims antagonised
the decision to separate the state from
religion because of the underground
agenda of the OIC which is being plotted
against the Nation Nigeria
Searching Wikipedia for “Abuja
declaration 1989” detailed the plots by
Islam after a conference where “The
Abuja Declarion is the outcome of a
conference of the African countries of
the (OIC) in 1989 and launched by a
communiqué of the Islam in Africa
Organisation (IAO) founded during this
conference. The Islam in Africa
Organisation (IAO) is a Nigerian satuted
Islamic organisation, an initiative of the
Organisation of the Islamic Conference
(OIC Dr. Usman Muhamad Bugaje is the
current Secretary-General of the IAO.
The organisation was founded on 28
November 1989 in Abuja, Nigeria, with
the goal to win the whole of Africa for
Islam. The statutes and goals, are ratified
in 1991 and this marks her formal
definitive founding. The founding-
communiqué is also called the Abuja
Declaration. Startingpoint for the
conference is the fact that Africa is the
only continent with an Islamic majority
and therefore Africa should fairly
represent Islam in government and civic
life. The plan contains a lot of points that
are also common for Christian
missionary organisations as relief and
economic progression.
They listed some agenda but some of the
goals were deliberately kept away from
the public views but had listed “To
promote the unity and solidarity of the
Muslim ummah throughout Africa and
the rest of the world and to support,
encourage and enhance Islamic
propagation and resurgence generally. To
promote peace, harmony and human
development and strive to remove all
forms of discrimination, human
exploitation and oppression especially in
Africa and the world in general. To
support, enhance and coordinate Da'wah
work in all parts of Africa and propagate
the knowledge of Islam throughout the
continent. To promote the dissemination
of the knowledge of sharia and support
its application to Muslim communities in
Africa. To strive for the evolution of the
economies of the ummah in conformity
with the sharia and the attainment of
economic self-sufficiency and self-
reliance in Africa by promoting
industrialization, trade and overall
economic development. To encourage
and support human resource
development programme in Africa,
particularly the education and
development of the Muslim youth and to
ensure that women are accorded their
rightful place in society as enshrined in
the sharia. To serve as a mouthpiece for
the articulation of issues of common
concern to Muslim communities in Africa
and the rest of the world. To undertake
research and publications on all aspects
of Islamic history and Islamic intellectual
heritage in Africa. To undertake the
translation of Islamic works into various
African languages and their
dissemination. To promote the learning
of Arabic language throughout Africa. To
promote respect and undertake measures
for relief and comfort of those in distress
in Africa and other parts of the world. To
promote respect for human rights and
dignity and to support, with appropriate
means, all causes of general justice and
freedom throughout the world. To
cooperate with other national and
international bodies to uplift human
dignity and enhance human welfare in
Africa and in the world in. The IAO
consists of four main organisations”.
One of the undetailed Plan which is
unknown to most Nigerians is the
caption below which is detailed in the
communique “To Eradicate in all its
forms and ramification all non-Muslim
religion in member nations, such religion
shall include Christianity”, To ensure
Only Muslims are elected in all political
offices of member Nations, to ensure the
appointment of only muslims into
strategic National and international post
of member Nations, To ensure the
ultimate replacement of all western form
of legal and judicial system with the
Sharia. Read more here on dual ideology and the APC:

Long post but pls I want every Christian to read this. Seun, Obinoscopy pls.

“To Eradicate in all its forms and
ramification all non-Muslim religion in
member nations, such religion shall include
Christianity ”, To ensure Only Muslims are
elected in all political offices of member
Nations, to ensure the appointment of only
muslims into strategic National and
international post of member Nations, To
ensure the ultimate replacement of all
western form of legal and judicial system
with the Sharia. and Nigeria is a member
nation alongside Algeria, Benin, Chad,
Egypt, Ethiopia, Eritrea, Kenya, Liberia,
Libya, Mali, Mauritania, Morocco, Niger,
Nigeria, Sudan, Somalia,
The Soul of Nigeria is in a war, an
unseen hands is ruling Nigeria from the
Arab Nation, Federal Republic of Nigeria,
is a federal constitutional republic
comprising 36 states and by words
regarded as a secular Nation but the
Organization of Islamic Countries (OIC) in
a clandestine manner is ravaging the
entire nation with a mission to Islamise
Nigeria just the way Turkey was totally
swept out, Nigeria is on the verge of
explosion. Apart from the monster
known as corruption which is ravaging
Nigeria, unknown to many, The OIC is
stopping at nothing to ruin the country
through the clandestine plan if Islamising
the entire Nation. The dire effects of
ignorance, negligence, apathy,
denominational-ism, selfishness, lack of
prophetic sensitivity and flirtation with
the world.
Nigeria is a sick country and
unfortunately the masses themselves
have accepted fate because of the long
cruel misrule by the successive so called
Leader, Nigeria is becoming desolate as
millions of the young Educated breed are
seeking a type of succour in far off clime,
In every embassy in Lagos and Abuja,
thousands throng the gates of foreign
embassies seeking refuge outside the
shores of the country because there is a
cloud and no one seems to know the
agenda.
The country is daily experiencing death
tolls from the northern region and
Islamic terrorist known as Boko Haram is
conquering even in an unimaginable
speed. Even the legal force of state are
overwhelmed and escaping for their
lives, Christians are murdered in broad
day lights and many die without help.
There is a sense of apathy west as the
plague is currently ravaging the north
and is yet to reach the south. Nigeria is
drying up, bridges are like sandy bed,
and the masses are themselves utterly
impoverished and bewildered for
solution and are used by politicians
whose mission and goals are obscure.
Boko Haram is tilting Nigeria that
Nations of the world are coming into
Nigeria to help a country that cannot
solve their Problem. “Your land is
desolate, Your cities are burned with fire,
Your fields-- strangers are devouring
them in your presence; It is desolation, as
overthrown by strangers.”
Recently at the Ongoing conference A
drama ensued when two Christian
delegates representing Christian Leaders,
Bishop of Kafanchan Diocese of Catholic
Church, Joseph Bagobiri and Pastor
Emmanuel Bosun (Ogun State), raised the
issue, citing the 1999 Constitution, where
Shariah was mentioned 73 times, Grand
Khadi 54 times, Islam 28 times , Muslims
