I wonder why the South South governors are not competing to have these plants located in their areas where they also have seaports huh
There is an urgent need to DIVERSIFY our industrial development away from over-saturated Lagos axis.
Investors are not only looking for seaports, they consider security, infrastructures, population, et all before embarking on any investment.

PoliticsPDP 16-year Rule Will End In 2015 –APC by Aderostock(op): 2:33pm On Nov 02, 2014
The major opposition party, All Progressives Congress, has vowed to bring to an end the 16- year rule of the Peoples Democratic Party at the federal level in 2015.
The chairman of the Oyo State chapter of the party, Akin Oke, said the incumbent President Goodluck Jonathan would be voted out of power as “Nigerian voters are expected to effect a desirous change through the ballot boxes and throw up only the genuine democrats and patriots as their political leaders.”

The party, in a reaction to SUNDAY PUNCH
enquiry, stated that Nigerians had in recent
months indicated their willingness to reclaim
the country from the hands of bad leaders and
ensure that the “most populous black nation
does not sink further down or collapse
completely.”
The party said, “Nigerians have had to groan under the forceful rule of the PDP since 1999 till date. It is an indisputable fact that the PDP cannot offer the nation the desired good governance or, at least, show improvement on its palpable incompetence, insincerity and lack of vision as it concerns channeling the cause of Nigeria and Nigerians. Rather than show promise, the ruling party is busy destroying all the sectors of the nation’s economy and setting the people against themselves.
“With the calibre of patriots in the refreshing
alternative called the APC and the choice of our
prospective candidates for all elective posts in
the 2015 general elections coupled with the
resolve of the electorate to facilitate change,
the end to PDP’s reign has come. Therefore, we
congratulate the citizenry in advance while we
urge them to keep the spirit of change for a
better Nigeria.”
It however urged Nigerians to support whoever
emerges as its presidential candidate in a bid
to win next year’s presidential poll.
In a statement made available to our
correspondent, the Oyo state APC also claimed
that the current PDP-led Federal Government
had made no attempt to develop the South-
West because of the hold the APC has on many
of the states in the geopolitical zone.

jackbauersballs: I live in London and people hang clothes on their balcony here all the time...especially if you live in a cramped flat with no clothes dryer...

I honestly think this rule is quite bizarre undecided
you think you can come here and spew lie because some people have not gone out of this country. in that case, you should provide dryer for home use.

pro01: And what about landlords who do not and cannot provide clothes lines at the back of the house due to limited space and whatnot? What should the tenants do?

Have you not seen some houses in Lagos where there isn't even enough space to park a motorcycle, let alone space for clothes lines; some of these houses have over a hundred inhabitants with little extra space for anything.

You think someone living in a big enough compound, with designated clothes lines in the backyard would prefer to hang their clothes on the fence? That is the problem with some of us: we are so self-centred and smug that we do not take time to empathise with other people's situations. Reminds me of the Okada ban imbroglio. Because some of us are privileged to have private cars, we think the millions others that do not have that privilege - who would suffer the hardships associated with that policy - should go to hell, even when there are clearly no alternatives.

I assume that many of the "educated" people condemning this senseless policy here do have clothes lines in thier houses, and do use them. However, they are fair-minded and sensible enough to know that the majority of Lagos residents live in houses where there are no clothes lines, or where the available ones are not sufficient to serve all the residents because of limited space. What should they do? Spread their clothes in their living rooms?

In a poor and underdeveloped country such as ours with limited options, why should a serious government waste valuable time and resources on enforcing this, of all the more pressing problems facing the populace?
Excuses on excuses. Must you live in such a fifthy house. there are some houses human beings should not be living in and the houses you described are among them.

pro01: You are evidently concussed by virulent cluelessness. What has my Igboness (of which I am extremely proud, by the way) got to do with the fact that this new policy is unnecessary? Since you are talking about "culture", I remember you twerps supported the shameful idea of institutionised extortionism in the name of Baba Oloja and Iya Oloja. Would you find such nonsense in the modern mega cities like New York and London that Lagos is trying to emulate? Oh, yet it is suddenly not in your culture to hang your own clothes on your own balcony in your own house? Is that a bigger priority than banning the illegal nonsense called Iya Oloja or Baba Oloja. . .and not to mention the Omo Onile extortion rackets that the LASG apparently condones? Or are these more acceptable aspects of your culture than hanging clothes on your balcony?

We are not deceived. There are other things that are bigger priorities, if indeed we want to make Lagis a modern city. Stop fooling yourselves.
I don't think you know the meaning of culture and tradition. for you to call babaloja and iyaloja nonsense, it shows you don't know anything abt culture and for you calling spreading of clothes in PUBLIC PLACES a culture again shows you don't know what you are typing. u can be a graduate but you have a very low IQ.

PoliticsAbuja Arrests And Sends 144 Beggars, Destitute Persons To Their Home States by Aderostock(op): 7:20am On Jul 26, 2013
The Abuja Environmental Protection Board
(AEPB) arrested 144 beggars and other
destitute persons in the city centre within the
last three weeks, an official said. The Head of
Information and Outreach Programme, AEPB,
Mr Joe Ukairo, told newsmen in Abuja on
Tuesday that the board made the arrests
during a “massive operation’’. Ukairo said the
board had adopted stricter and sustainable
measures of evacuating beggars from the
streets.
“We discovered that they still come to the
street after evacuation but this time around
we are taking more stringent measures to
make sure they don’t come back. “What these
beggars do is when they see our vehicle
coming they run away but now there are
undercover approaches adopted by the board
to tackle this problem,’’ he said. Ukairo said
that the board would, henceforth, take
pictures and personal data of all beggars
arrested before returning them to their states
of origin. He said the step would enable the
board to know those who returned to the
street. The official said that after returning
the beggars home, AEPB would contact their
various state and local governments to be
part of their rehabilitation. Ukairo said that
without proper rehabilitation, it would be
very difficult to permanently get the beggars
off the streets of Abuja.
He said any beggar who wished to stay back
in the FCT would be taken to the
rehabilitation centre in Bwari Area Council to
learn a trade, such as carpentry, handicraft,
tailoring, soap making, among others.
“We discovered that the street tends to be
more lucrative for the beggars than the
government efforts to rehabilitate them and
provide vocational training,” he said.
Commenting on the reappearance of hawkers
in Wuse Market, Ukairo said the board would
not tolerate their activities in the city centre.
He said that the AEPB noticed that miscreants
hid under the cover of hawkers and traders
to snatch bags and other valuables from
residents at night. Ukairo said the board had
given 72 hours notice to hawkers to evacuate
Wuse Market and environs and stressed that
`there is no amount of sentiment that will
legalise illegality. “Government is ready to
support small scale businesses but it must be
within the provision of the law.‘’ He advised
that the hawkers go to the area councils to
start their businesses. He called on residents
to respect the board’s enforcement squad
and report any form of unethical behaviour
from them. (NAN)

Tinubu A Dogged Fighter – Bishop

Archbishop Atilade of the Anglican
Diocese and president of the
Christian Welfare Initiative (CWI),
has described national leader of the
Action Congress of Nigeria (ACN) and
former Lagos State governor, Asiwaju
Bola Ahmed Tinubu, as a dogged
fighter and a champion of good
causes.
“Tinubu is fighting for all Nigerians
and we need more people like him in
this country”, Archbishop Atilades
aid when he paid a condolence visit
to the leader of the All Progressive
Congress (APC) over the death of his
mother, Alhaja Abibat Asabi Mogaji.
The clergyman expressed concern
over the level of poverty and waste
in the public sector. “Is Nigeria
under a curse? No! We need good
leadership to deliver us”. He
identified the likes of Tinubu as
having the qualities required for
good leadership in the country. “You
have people that can stand behind
you at all times,” he told Tinubu.
Atilade described the late Alhaja
Mogaji as a “righteous woman who
never discriminated against any
religion or tribe”.
Quoting from the Bible, he said, “The
memory of the righteous is
everlasting. She was a mobiliser per
excellence, one who touched the
lives of many people and played a
pivotal role in what became the
successful campaign of the primary
health programme in Nigeria today.
“Mama was passionate and
compassionate. She showed burden
for others and kindness in attitude,
words and deeds. Alhaja Abibat was
her brother’s and sister’s keeper and
a staunch support

PoliticsNo More Free Medical Services To Terminally Ill Patients – Fashola by Aderostock(op): 3:32pm On Jul 17, 2013
LAGOS — Governor Babatunde Fashola of Lagos
State, yesterday, said the state would no longer
provide free medical services to patients
suffering terminal diseases, even as he
commissioned the first Trauma and Burns
Centre in the country.
The Governor, who spoke while commissioning
the centre at the Gbagada General Hospital,
Kosofe Local Government Area of the state,
explained that the state free healthcare policy
could not cover terminal diseases like
complicated surgeries, child birth, kidney and
cancer, among others.

He, however, said the state would continue to
provide free healthcare on ante-natal care,
malaria, especially for certain segments of the
society.
According to him: “This is why I think that
citizens must sign up to medical insurance. This
is because when we complete the challenges of
infrastructure and welfare, we will move to the
most defining issue, which is medical insurance.
“With this, citizens will be their own insurance
from where the free healthcare stops.”
Giving reasons for the decision, Fashola said:
“The rate, at which our population is growing, is
not commensurate with the rate at which the
state resources are growing.”

On the facility, the governor said: “The aim is to
protect the life of the residents and to reduce
the rate of patients traveling abroad to seek
such treatment.
“I remember in 2007, there was a major fire
incident at Alimosho axis of the state. The
medical officials were available, but they were
helpless, as the facilities were lacking. And that
left an indelible mark on my mind, because I
saw people affected by the fire, struggling for
life.
“This informed why I decided that the state
must provide facility that would cater for such
cases.
“And this burns unit has the equipment for the
treatment and management of people that have
acute burns, and can provide plastic surgeries
for patients.”

PoliticsFashola Vows To Demolish Structurally Defective Buildings by Aderostock(op): 4:16pm On Jul 12, 2013
on July 12, 2013 at 11:20 am in News
Lagos – The Lagos State Government is to
demolish all structurally defective buildings as
soon as it concludes investigations on them.
The state Commissioner for Special Duties, Dr
Wale Ahmed, gave the assurance while
inspecting a three-storey building that collapsed
on Thursday morning on Otto Street, Ebute
Meta.
He said that the government was doing
everything possible to avoid more building
collapse.
“Every building marked for demolition will be
pulled down as soon as the agencies assigned to
work on them conclude their investigations.
Ahmed hoped that building collapse would soon
be a thing of the past in Lagos State.
He said that the state Governor, Mr Babatunde
Fashola, had constituted a committee to look
into building collapse in the state and make
recommendations.
At least seven persons died when the three-
storey building collapsed.
A motorcycle seller, who occupied the ground
floor of the building, Mr Chukwudi Ezeobi, told
reporters that about 200 Honda motorcycles
valued at N20 million was in his shop in the
building before the incident.
Another motorcycle seller, Mr Ambrose Aneke,
said that he had about 100 cartons of
motorcycle spare parts valued at about N3
million in the building.
Also speaking to reporters, the Chairman,
Mainland Local Government Area, Mr Oladele
Adekanye, said that the council would to its best
to assist in checking collapse of buildings.
Adekanye urged accommodation seekers to be
careful to avoid renting defective buildings.
He appealed to land developers to avoid using
substandard materials.
He said that the council would ensure that the
developers of collapsed buildings were brought
to book. (NAN).
