rvp2018: Proof it Well, this report for example says a lot unless one chooses to ignore it. And I expect those arguing with you not to ignore it because of how seriously you seem to be taking this whole thing. Electricity access in Kenya is low despite the government’s ambitious target to increase electricity connectivity from the current 15% to at least 65% by the year 2022. https://energypedia.info/wiki/Kenya_Energy_Situation |

Yobeezy: That map shows 2017 stats when Kenya's electrification rates was 64%, right now we're in 2019, electrification rate is over 75%. Roughly 10 million out of 50 million Kenyans lack electricity access and by 2022-23, the electrification rate will be 100%. That map says Nigeria's rate was 64% in 2017. One of your brothers brought it here. Don't understand why you are fighting so hard against it now. |

rvp2018: it's not my map.its IEA energy outlook 2017.As of now 2019..I think only 3m households translating to 12-13m Kenyans do not have electricity. We are connecting more than 1m households annually translating to 4m people..so in 2yrs we will achieve universal electricity acess. Well,if that data is accurate, then good for you. |

rvp20182: Before we go to kenya - Let digress....to the laggard NIGERIA>
Nigeria has always claimed to have about 50-60% of electricity access. Of course, we know such data is doggy because your NEPA would have like 25-30M customers. I assume an average of 5-6 individuals per household in a 180-200m population - roughly 40-50M households.
Can you gives us breakdown of electricity connection in Nigeria - number of customers in those power (less) companies.
Kenya in 2002 had 12% of it's citizen connected to electricity. KPLC (Kenya Power Co) had I think about 300,000 customers. Right now KPLC have more than 7M customers (Households).Kenya has made TREMENDOUS progress in electricity connection and has been lauded for that.
Kenya has population - 47-50M (we will know in 3 months after census next week) - with about 12M households. As we speak we still have about 4M households...roughly 16m people (4 individual per household) not connected to electricity.
We are razing towards connecting that 4M household either to main or off-grid solutions so we can achieve universal electricity access. Then we will worry about the prices & consumption. Our power is already very reliable and stable.
Let us not talk about blackouts and generators for now. No,you have 17million people out of 50 million. That's what your map says, buddy. You brought the map and this long nonsensical talk is unnecessary. |
Foreign Affairs › Re: Kenya Is Ahead of Nigeria In All Aspect (Facts Don't Lie) by Aderr: 5:32pm On Aug 17, 2019 |
Yobeezy: Your facts are wrong, Kenya's electrification rates is currently over 75% and I guess we're around 79-83% gauging from the intensive electrification programme which have been taking shape since 2017. Kenya is on the path of implementing last mile connectivity project to clinch 100% universal electricity access by 2022, just the recent launch of Africa's largest wind farm power project is a big player towards this ambitious project. Kenya is among the top ten tiers of renewable energy in the world.
While Nigeria's current electrification rate is 55%. 2030 is the year your government has dedicated to achieve universal electricity access a time when Kenya's electrification rates will be over 200% now that our government has also laid plans to invest in nuclear energy before 2028.
Electrification rates;
Ghana - 83% Kenya - 75-81% Nigeria - 55% Tanzania - 33%
Well, that map proves you wrong,my man. Unless you want us to discard it.Unfortunately for you, it was posted by a Kenyan like you. The map says 17 million Kenyans lack access to electricity. |

Look below the map to check what those colour means I just pointed it out to them how Kenya is also doing poorly according to that map. Just look at Botswana on that map. 1 million people out of a population of 2million lack access to electricity in Botswana. That's a whopping 50%! Worse than nigeria's case. Yet they'd tell us how Botswana is a success story with high HDI. The same with Congo Brazzaville. At times I don't understand these foreign organizations. |

rvp20182: The scum of Africa indeed. 73% are in total darkness; and those 33% with electricity have to endured only 4hrs of electricity. They endure 24 blackouts in a month...leaving them with about 5 days of electricity without interruption. They were 'bewitched'. When you want to hide something from an African Kenyan, put it in writing, he won't find it. I guess you didn't read the attached link.It says 73m people but in your haste to talk you thought the 73 stands for 73%.How dumb! 73m out of 200million for Nigeria is about the same percentage as 17million out of 50m for Kenya. If you consider that then you would see that your country is disgraceful and scum as well. 68816419: Kenya’s Regional Imports Surpasses Exports, Raising An Alarm On Country’s Productivity
Kenya’s regional imports have surpassed exports in what can be attributed to the production of similar products on the continent that raises competition with Kenya’s products.
This comes at a time when the country is struggling with a trade deficit (the gap between imports and export), specifically, for the 20 year period between 1998 – 2018 when the exports grew average 8.4 percent per year while imports grew average 11.5 percent per year.
The total exports in the first five months in 2019 dropped 1.96 percent to Sh107.55 bn compared with a year ago. The trade deficit was signaled by a drop in exports to key markets like Uganda, Tanzania, and D.R Congo
For instance, exports from Kampala fell to Sh30.77 bn from Sh34.51 bn in 2013 while imports from Uganda doubled to Sh13.95 bn from Sh5.14 bn in 2014, data by Central Bank of Kenya indicated.
Tanzania’s grew to Sh12.95 bn from Sh8.34 bn at a time when the country entered into a deal with Kenya to sell one million tons of maize and flour within one year to curb the maize shortage crisis experienced in Kenya
Meanwhile, half-year exports to Tanzania reduced to Sh15.79 bn this year from Sh21.73 bn five years ago.
According to Charles Ogutu, a research analyst at Genghis Capital Limited Research, the trade deficit affects job creation in a negative way.
” By relying on imports, we have outsourced jobs to our trading partners, more so the Far East Region which account for a significant aspect of the origins of our imports. This will dent the manufacturing jobs as targeted under the Big Four Agenda,” he told WeeMedia.
The trade deficit comes in the wake of decreased exports of the country’s key commodities like tea whose exports value fell Sh10 bn in the first quarter of the year.
In a bid to increase local production, the Treasury proposed policies that are geared towards reigniting the manufacturing sector’s growth and development.
For instance, the reduction of Import Development Fee (IDF) on raw materials to 1.5 from 2.0 percent, and the increase in IDF on finished goods from 2 percent to 3.5.
“This is expected to reduce the cost of imported raw materials, thus improving the competitiveness of local manufacturers against finished imports,” Kenya Association of Manufacturers (KAM) CEO Phyllis Wakiaga said.
In the 2019/2020 budget statement, the Treasury also proposed the increment of Railway Development Levy (RDL) for finished products from 1.5 percent to 2 percent which is expected to cushion manufacturers against imported finished goods. Like one of the Kenyan guys said,if their officials are actually viewing this thread then this should trouble them greatly. The Kenyan economy needs to buckle up before its neighbors leave it with nothing. |

edon21: ‘Nigerian market kept Kenya Airways through hard times’ guardian.ng Aug 13, 2019 5:16 AM
PHOTO:alliance/dpa The survival of Kenyan national carrier, Kenya Airways, from recent economic hard times has been linked to supports enjoyed from the Nigerian market.
The Country Manager of the East African carrier, Hafeez Balogun, said this in appreciation of the Nigerian patronage, which again underscores the importance of the market to international carriers.
Balogun, while receiving members of the National Association of Nigerian Travel Agencies (NANTA) and Kenya Association of Travel Agents (KATA) recently in Lagos, said the local agencies consistently support the airline, especially for clientele’s holiday programmes and tourism.
Recall that the airline, partly owned by the Kenyan government and KLM among other investors, was in financial difficulties between 2015 and 2017. This was due to operational losses, for reasons not unconnected with rapid expansion of the fleet and routes, fuel-price hedging and the 1996 agreement with KLM that was considered intrusive in the running of the flag carrier.
Though the airline returned to recovery path late 2017, no fewer than 22 out of its 26 workers in Nigeria were sacked, leading to protest and picketing by aviation workers’ unions in 2018.
The airline continued on recovery path, acquiring new aircraft and route expansion. The airline recently launched a direct flight from East Africa to United States. Passengers on Kenya Airways’ Boeing 787-8 Dream liner now take 15-hour flight from Nairobi’s Jomo Kenyatta International Airport to New York.
Kenya earned $1.2 billion in 2017 from tourism, more than a 20 per cent increase from $989 million the previous year, and the US is one of the country’s biggest tourism markets.
Balogun said though a lot of doubts heralded the New York route, over 900 Nigerian passengers had been flown on the route till date.
“Nigerians in the Diaspora are also coming home on Kenyan Airways. So, we thank Nigeria for supporting Kenya Airways.”
The Nigerian Civil Aviation Authority (NCAA) also commended Kenya Airways for efficient services. Director of Consumer Protection Department at the NCAA, Adamu Abdullahi, said out of the 244 flights the airline operated in Nigeria in the last six months, only 68 were delayed, two cancelled and one had a ramp return.
President of the National Association of Travel Agencies (NANTA), Bernard Bankole, said the Nigerian market is viable and a feeder for other markets.
Bankole said that it goes to show the enormous gains that await the country “if we are able to get it right with our national carrier plan”.
Indeed, no fewer than 34 foreign carriers operate in and out of Nigerian cities almost on a daily basis. Among them are nine African carriers.
For instance, Ethiopian Airlines, the largest carrier on the continent, operates into Enugu, Kano, Abuja, and Lagos daily. Similarly, Turkish Airline operates in four cities of Abuja, Kano, Lagos, and Port Harcourt. Emirates Airline currently has four frequencies daily from Lagos and Abuja.
A recent fact-check by the Airlines Operators of Nigeria (AON) revealed that the foreign carriers currently account for 90 per cent of the four million international passengers that travel through Nigerian airports yearly. The capital flight is in excess of $3 billion (N1.050 trillion).

Anyway, this is what makes Maguire special.. Maguire's England team-mate Rashford may grab the plaudits with his brace but the Yorkshireman's authoritative performance underlined why his new boss wanted him above getting the big name midfield or striking reinforcements so many United fans have demanded on social media. His calmness under pressure helped ensure that when the home side looked shaky in the first half they did not add to their concerns with self-inflicted mistakes. Maguire was happy to keep it simple in possession and push the ball on to Paul Pogba when he could, and had the awareness to spot team-mates in trouble, something former United boss Jose Mourinho rather churlishly said on TV might be frequently needed in the case of Luke Shaw. https://www.bbc.com/sport/football/49223795 |

Chelsea relying on Tammy to perform wonders...
Former Chelsea striker Chris Sutton is full of
hope that Tammy Abraham will be given the
chance to shine as the club's new No. 9.
The 21-year-old looks set to get his chance this
season and he has already netted under new
manager Frank Lampard in pre-season against
Barcelona.
With Chelsea unable to bring in a new striker
this summer due to their transfer ban, Abraham
has been handed the No. 9 shirt, which has
often been a burden for previous Blues frontmen
