As students of the first and the only University in Nigeria, University of Ibadan, things can get a little bit overwhelming and drab. So here’s a shortlist of stuffs to do while in school. 1.Know God: Fellowshipping with God is really important. You need to pray y’all, it is not easy at all, you probably have forces from your villages wanting to interfere with your success, you need to pray fire them all, pray you don’t get missing scripts, tsunami etc. 2. Go to Class: I don’t think this can be overemphasized it’s the primary reason you’re here. some lecturers are very mean with attendance and impromptu tests, while you’re busy getting high in your bq, chilling with bae on that cold afternoon, your mates are writing an impromptu test which the lecturer will use just coz you didn’t come to class that day. 3.Attend a rave party: there’s a number of rave clubs in UI, from MI6 to Rocq boiz, Fixers etc. and this automatically means a lot of parties but then that is not the case now, as it looks like it is one party per semester but then the parties are really cool and you should go for at least 3 before you leave school. 4.Network: if you don’t want to be one of those people that finish school, and don’t get good jobs, can’t get anything started up coz they don’t have the right connections, they don’t know their former classmates in good places. Network now the connections will come in handy. 5.Join in on a Political/hall Rally/ protest: the adrenalin that comes with this is usually beyond ordinary, especially when you’re from halls like Zik, Indy and yours truly Awo. I think everybody needs to experience that. 6.Have something going for you: be it business, modelling, blogging, arts, singing, dancing, have something you can call an extracurricular. 7.Explore: even though this school makes it hard, be sure to explore, discover yourself, have fun, enjoy being young (except the oldies) you never really get the time to do that after school. |

The University of Ibadan on Tuesday released its post-UTME results for the 2015/2016 session, warning that admission would be keen because of low quota admission given to the institution by the National Universities Commission. Out of the 8,992 that scored above 50 per cent, the school can only accommodate 3,700. While announcing the result, the Vice Chancellor of the institution, Prof. Isaac Adewole, who was represented by the school’s Deputy Vice Chancellor Administration, Prof. Emilolorun Ayelari, said a total of 19,268 sat for the examination while 8,992 scored above 50 per cent. “In UI, only candidates that scored over 200 in the Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination were invited for the post-UTME test. 20,800 applied but 19,268 candidates took part in the examination. A total of 8,992 candidates scored above 50 marks, representing 46.7 per cent of the candidates. This is lower than the 67.7 per cent that was recorded last year,” he said. Ayelari added that the cut off point for Medicine and Surgery was 80 last year because many candidates scored high marks. “For that year, our total quota for the course was 150 including those who applied for direct entry. Our admission policy in UI was reviewed to ensure that the best candidates are admitted. In the last few years since we started the post-UTME, withdrawal rate at the end of first year has reduced greatly. “Our admission quota is 3,700. That means we can only pick the best. We cannot admit someone who scored 65 when there are candidates who scored 75. We appeal to the public not to push pressure on our members of staff. There is no course that is bad in a university; there is market for bright students in any course. Last year, the cut off point for Economics was 73, this year, it will be higher. In Law, 278 candidates scored 70 and above and the highest score is 86 per cent. The quota is around 150 including direct entry candidates.” The institution also announced that five candidates who scored the highest marks would be offered full scholarship by the school. “This year, the highest score is 86 marks scored by Adetunji Adebowale and Amaji Charles. Adebiyi Toluwalogo scored 85 marks while Dorcas Odunayo and Olowosulu Olawumi scored 83. These five will enjoy full UI scholarship,” Ayelari said. Copyright PUNCH. All rights reserved. Mr President met a country in a state of economic phlebotomy, social anomie, moral putrescence and political erebusism. Was he supposed to have, against this background, begin to take precipitate steps bordering on the harum scarum just to satiate the dramatic proclivities of those who lightly cogitate that Nigeria is a political cinematography?" ..Hon. Patrick Obahiagbon
