Let's Work For The Good Of Nigerians – Tinubu To APC Govs

President Bola Tinubu has congratulated governors elected on the platform of the All Progressives Congress, urging them to work for the good of all Nigerians.

He implored them to implement policies that prioritise all Nigerians and to always consider national interest above political affiliations.

Tinubu made this known in a statement signed by his Special Adviser on Media and Publicity, Ajuri Ngelale, and shared on his Facebook page on Friday.

He noted that the entire financial system of the country would be re-engineered for inclusivity, effectiveness, and efficiency.

He also asked the governors to come up with a framework that would make the implementation of the school-feeding programme more comprehensive and successful across all states of the federation, taking into consideration the peculiarities of each locality, but working towards having all children in school.

The President, who received members of the Progressive Governors Forum at the State House in Abuja, on Friday, said government policies would only find full relevance in people’s lives when there is inclusivity, ownership, and sustainability.

According to the statement, Tinubu told the governors that one of the biggest challenges the nation faces was divisiveness, but that the governing party must work towards healing and unifying the country by ensuring a collective national vision, and channelling energy and resources into nation-building.

“You can convert people. You can appeal to people to come to your side,’’ he said.

The statement read, "President Bola Tinubu has implored governors elected on the platform of the All Progressives Congress to design and implement policies that prioritise all Nigerians and to always consider the national interest above political affiliations.

"The President said Nigeria is too blessed with human, natural, and material resources to be struggling with a dearth of quality infrastructure, quality education, and world-class health facilities.

“We have no reason to be poor. Looking back on where we are coming from, where we have been, why we are facing infrastructural decay, a lack of quality and comprehensive education, as well as a lack of health facilities. We are not a cursed country, but blessed.

“We have children of school age who are out of school. The way to promote education is to get all governors, including the opposition governors, involved in the school-feeding programme. Please, take it seriously.

“We should not measure the children as statistics. We should measure their return to classrooms as our achievement. We should see economic growth in terms of value and empowerment. We should set up a committee to look into the methods. I am ready to invest in school feeding.

"The school-feeding programme would encourage more investments in agriculture, particularly in livestock farming and dairy, adding that the former Kano State Governor and APC "Chairman, Dr. Abdullahi Ganduje, had already worked on a proposal that would be shared for input and implementation."

Politics / President Tinubu: Nigeria Is Being Re-engineered For The Prosperity Of All And N by adex3g(m): 11:05pm On Dec 27, 2023

STATE HOUSE PRESS RELEASE

PRESIDENT TINUBU: NIGERIA IS BEING RE-ENGINEERED FOR THE PROSPERITY OF ALL AND NOT AN ELITE MINORITY

President Bola Tinubu says his administration will not stop working tirelessly to revamp the nation's economy and create viable opportunities for young people to meaningfully participate in an inclusive, labour-intensive economy where businesses can thrive.

President Tinubu made the declaration at the State House in Marina, Lagos State, on Wednesday, during a town-hall meeting with traditional rulers, chairpersons of Local Governments and Local Council Development Areas (LCDAs) and other political-office holders in the state.

The President said Nigeria, under his Renewed Hope Administration, is undergoing a process of financial re-engineering and appealed to citizens to be patient and supportive of the ongoing reforms which are bound to transform the economy for the better.

''The financial re-engineering of our country is ongoing. We are determined to deliver Nigeria safely through the tunnel of hope, stability, and economic prosperity.

''Nigeria is in good hands. The team is working, and we will work hard to give you the best economy and the best opportunities that you can imagine,'' the President stated.

Acknowledging the concerns raised at the meeting, the President explained that the complexities of state matters have limited his opportunities to frequently interact with some of his long-time friends and constituents in Lagos.

''For those having difficulty seeing me, kindly note that this job is monumental. It is not a one-man job. It is a collective task, and you have to be able to listen, decipher, tolerate, and sometimes what you do not expect will happen.

''As I was getting ready this morning to come here, news of the death of Governor Rotimi Akeredolu of Ondo came in, as well as the passing of former Speaker of the House of Representatives, Ghali Umar Na’Abba.

''Power is transient. Only Almighty Allah gives power, and only Him will take it. There is the value of life and the goodness in what we do. The salt of goodness is a multiplier of other good things that we must cherish. Not necessarily for us, but for our children and grandchildren,'' the President affirmed.

Reflecting on his tenure as the Executive Governor of Lagos State, President Tinubu recounted the challenges faced and the successes achieved at the time.

‘‘To turn the ship around from cascading into turbulence and making it work was not easy. But we went through it, and today, Lagos still remains the most viable state in the Federal Republic of Nigeria, and it will continue on the path of glory. I thank you all,’’ he concluded.

The Executive Governor of Lagos State, Babajide Sanwo-Olu, thanked President Tinubu for his leadership and for being the pathfinder of "the modern Lagos State".

''The legacy and blueprint that you created more than 20 years ago and bequeathed to us is still a working and living document that will continue to guide us in delivering quality service to the people,'' the Governor said.

In his remarks, Oba Kabiru Adewale Shotobi, the Ayangburen of Ikorodu Kingdom, called for a constitutional amendment that recognizes the role of traditional rulers.

''We have come to reiterate our loyalty to the President. We have absolute confidence in your capacity. Under your leadership, we expect Nigeria to attain the most enviable economic status in the comity of nations,'' he said.

Politics / JUST IN: Peter Obi Reacts To President Tinubu’s Slash In Transport Fares, Raises by adex3g(m): 2:13pm On Dec 22, 2023
Following President Tinubu’s announcement of a 50% discount on interstate transport fares for the festive season, Labour Party presidential candidate Peter Obi has expressed optimism but raised concerns about the policy’s implementation and sustainability.

In a statement released on Thursday, Obi acknowledged the “step in the right direction” but questioned the lack of a long-term plan to address the underlying issue of high transportation costs. He pointed out that millions who had already travelled before the announcement bear the brunt of the original fares, leaving them uncompensated.

“The question this seasonal palliative raises is that of what happens after the festive season,” Obi stated. “Is there a sustainable policy measure to cushion the masses from the current high transportation costs?”

He further raised doubts about the policy’s rollout, claiming investigations in major transport hubs across the country revealed widespread unawareness among operators. “In Abuja, Lagos, Onitsha, Kano, and other cities, transporters are completely in the dark about this 50% discount,” Obi said. “The announced list of participating companies and routes also raises concerns about transparency and potential for abuse.”

Obi urged the government to avoid “mere spin” and implement the policy with clear guidelines and safeguards. “The Nigerian people deserve more than temporary fixes,” he asserted. “Compassion is crucial, but it should not be used to exploit weak governance structures and encourage opaque policymaking.”

Recall that President Bola Tinubu on Wednesday approved a 50 per cent slash in the price of interstate transport fare for Nigerians travelling during the yuletide from Thursday, December 21, 2023, to January 4, 2024.

The President also approved free rides for commuters on all train services within the period.

Politics / CBN Has Issued A Statement Clarifying That There Is An Ample Supply Of Currency by adex3g(m): 9:17am On Dec 11, 2023
The Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) has issued a statement clarifying that there is an ample supply of currency in circulation.
.
The Corporate Communications Department of the CBN released an official statement, attributing the perceived scarcity to large volume withdrawals of cash by Deposit Money Banks (DMBs) from various CBN branches.
.
Additionally, panic withdrawals by individual bank customers were identified as contributing factors to the apparent shortage.
.
According to reports, numerous complaints had surfaced from bank customers, highlighting difficulties in obtaining Naira notes at bank counters, Automated Teller Machines (ATMs), Points of Sale (PoS), and Bureaux de Change (BDCs).
.
However, the CBN stated that the reported scarcity does not reflect an actual shortage of currency in the economy.
.
The statement read, “The attention of the CBN has been drawn to reports of alleged scarcity of cash at banks, ATMs, PoS, and BDCs in some major cities across the country. Our findings reveal that the seeming cash scarcity in some locations is due largely to high volume withdrawals from the CBN branches by DMBs and panic withdrawals by customers from the ATMs.”
.
Addressing the concerns of Nigerians, the CBN assured the public that there is a sufficient stock of currency notes to support economic activities in the country.
.
The central bank urged citizens to remain confident in the stability of the Naira and encouraged them to conduct their financial transactions without apprehension.

NO LEVEL OF SABOTAGE CAN MAKE ME SURRENDER OUR MANDATE – GOV. FUBARA

…Promises to prioritize development in education, entrepreneurship, agriculture.

…Asks for sustainable peace across the state

Governor of Rivers State, Sir Siminalayi Fubara has asserted that no level of sabotage staged in some quarters will make him abandon the mandate given to him to serve, protect and advance the fortunes of the State.

Speaking while declaring open the 115th and 116th combined Quarterly General Meeting of Rivers State Council of Traditional Rulers in Port Harcourt on Thursday, Governor Fubara reaffirmed his commitment to serve with humility, sincerity of purpose and accountability.

“Although these are trying times, let us not forget that Rivers State is our collective inheritance, presently under my watch, to protect, defend and advance it as the Governor.

“I assure you that I will not fail in this responsibility nor will I surrender our mandate and progress to intimidation, blackmail and deliberate sabotage. I reaffirm my earlier statement and recommit myself to the path of peace as there is nothing to gain in a state of needless crisis.”

Governor Fubara said drastic measures will be taken to strengthen education, healthcare and other social services across the State, so that no part, including the rural areas, will be left behind.

In advancing these human capital development efforts, the governor said the 2024 budget of the state will prioritize and provide sufficient funding to create universal access to affordable and quality education and healthcare services in Rivers State.

“We will also take deliberate steps to unlock the entrepreneurial spirit among our teeming unemployed youths through viable initiatives on skills development, entrepreneurship training and targeted investments in commercial agriculture.”

Sir Fubara urged traditional rulers to be upright and royal fathers of integrity who do not compromise their neutrality.

He also enjoined them to be courageous to speak truth to power so that they do not lose their moral authority and legitimacy before their people.

“We must all be worried about the plight of our youths, especially those in rural communities, most of whom are poor, neglected and almost forgotten in the government’s development plans, policies, and actions.

“As we all know, no human society can progress without peace and security. I will therefore urge you to continue to work tirelessly for the preservation of peace and security to attract sustainable development to your communities.”

The governor also harped on the need for everybody to have faith in the renewed hope agenda of the President Bola Ahmed Tinubu-led administration at the federal level, asserting that President Tinubu has shown determination to pull the nation out of the prevailing economic nightmare and usher in a new era of sustainable economic progress, which is very reassuring.

In his address, the Chairman of Rivers State Council of Traditional Rulers, Ohna Sergeant Chidi Awuse declared the firm support of the council to the administration of Governor Siminalayi Fubara who was elected as the best and trusted to lead the State.

Ohna Awuse urged troublemakers who are fanning the ember of discord to cease the acts and allow the governor to concentrate and do the work he was elected to do.

Also speaking, Rivers State Commissioner for Chieftaincy and Community Affairs, Charles Amadi said his ministry has continued to maintain a harmonious relationship with the council and will continue to collaborate with them to ease the discharge of their duties in their roles as royal fathers in peace-building efforts in their domains.

Revealed: Ogun Govt Loses N112.335m To Bullion Van Attack

It has been revealed that the daredevil robbers, who attacked a mini bullion van belonging to the Ogun State Government on Wednesday, made away with a total of One Hundred and Twelve Million, Three hundred and Thirty Five Thousand Naira (N112, 335, 000).

Reports gathered by our correspondence revealed that the money included a cash of N97.335 million withdrawn from an Abeokuta branch of Fidelity Bank and another cash of N15million collected from Sterling Bank, also in Abeokuta.

A police signal seen by journalists , indicates that a police Inspector, Rasheed Adegbite, who was attached to the SPU and was supposed to be with the bullion van travelled without permission.
Adegbite, who was said to have travelled, on Tuesday, to Igbo-Ora in Oyo State, according to the signal, has been arrested for interrogation.

Another source however said Inspector Adegbite took permission from the deceased DFA before traveling to Oyo State.

Adegbite was said to have informed the DFA to contact him if his service was needed, in order to contact other team members in the SPU.

These revelation could not be verified, as at the time of filling this report.

While correspondence could not ascertain whether the huge cash was in connection with the 2024 budget presentation by Governor Dapo Abiodun to the Ogun State House of Assembly, later on Thursday, it could also not be confirmed what the huge cash was meant for.

A statement by the Ogun State Police Public Relations Officer, Omolola Odutola, after the incident, confirmed that the robbers shot Oyekan on his two laps.

He was also reportedly injured in his private part while he was rushed to the hospital before giving up the ghost.

“The bullion van, registered under the number X pilot 13, was transporting the Director of Finance, Taiwo Oyenekan, along with the driver, Olalekan Akintoye, and Peter Samson.

The agreement aimed at accelerating the Presidential Power Initiative (PPI) was signed on Friday by Kenny Anuwe, CEO of FGN Power Company, and Nadja Haakansson, Siemens Energy managing director for Africa, on the sidelines of the ongoing COP28 in Dubai.

The PPI project agreement was first entered in 2019 and was to be implemented in three phases including delivering an additional 2GW to the grid to achieve improved grid stability and reliability; bringing the system’s operational capacity to about 11G, while also increasing the system’s capacity to 25GW.

Speaking to journalists after the signing, Adebayo Adelabu, minister of power, said the agreement will see to the end-to-end modernisation and expansion of Nigeria’s electric power transmission grid.

Adelabu said different factors including COVID-19 had affected the progress of the project after its initial signing in 2019 but that Nigeria is now ready to proceed and deliver.

He said Siemens Energy has already supplied the necessary equipment needed to execute the project and within 12 to 24 months the government will expand the grid capacity from 6,000 to 8,000 megawatts, with hopes to get to 12,000mw in three years.

Politics / Tinubus Terrible Mistakes Plunged Nigerians Into Misery Says By Sagay by adex3g(m): 9:40am On Nov 08, 2023
Prof. Itsey Sagay (SAN), the former Chairman of the Presidential Advisory Committee on Corruption under former President Muhammadu Buhari, has blamed President Bola Ahmed Tinubu over the current economic crisis plaguing Nigeria.

The human rights activist and legal luminary, while in an interview with Daily Independent on the state of the economy, said President Tinubus terrible mistakes in his policies have accounted to why Nigerians are going through hardship, saying the twin pronouncement of removal of fuel subsidy and floating of the naira, among other decisions so far, have led to Nigerians living in misery presently.

Prof. Sagay said: Tinubu started on the wrong footing and acted in a haste on his inauguration day. That is what triggered the hardship Nigerians are going through right now. Saying subsidy is gone was such a hasty statement when he hadnt put up any arrangement, any plan to shore up the economy.

That was the greatest mistake he made so far as the president and it robbed him of the normal enjoyment of one hundred days honeymoon. His decision and how he started has plunged the country into misery. I was interviewed after he won the election to advice on what to do about subsidy and I said I agreed that subsidy should go but it has to stay until we start refining petrol internally. I said we have to wait until Dangote Refinery or one of those refineries starts refining and then subsidy will go. It will go naturally because what makes subsidy is the transport. You carry crude abroad and carry same back as refined product with charges and all that.

Those are the things being subsidised. Once we start producing petrol internally, that will be the end of subsidy. That was my advice and I think the president started wrongly by that pronouncement and till today, the cost of living has gone beyond the ordinary man on account of that. Tinubu gave himself a very terrible welcome into the Nigerian presidency by his pronouncements and actions, as well as the hardship into which Nigerians were plunged into because of his hasty pronouncement. I also agree that he should not have floated the naira because a very weak currency like ours should not have been floated like that.

You must shore it up; you must support it until the countrys economy is strong enough for any floating. That decision was also hasty and premature on his part. I completely lay the blame on him on these two although I will acknowledge that they have been struggling to get the country out of the ugly situation because the naira is gradually gaining more power lately but to be honest, those were the terrible mistakes the president made which I think he should have thought twice in the first place, he said.

The foremost scholar and anti-corruption crusader also said the ambition of both the Peoples Democratic Partys (PDP) presidential candidate in the 2023 election, Atiku Abubakar, and his Labour Party (LP) counterpart, Peter Obi, almost crumbled the country, accusing them of not being sportsmanlike after the declaration of Tinubu as the winner of last general election.

Sagay noted that both candidates resorted to mundane issues in order to find an avenue to unseat the president.

He said: The certificate of Tinubu might not have emanated from the school but it contained exactly what is recorded in the original school result. That is the first point. The second point is that I am told that it is an American convention that third parties have powers to issue certificates for universities and other institutions. So those are the two points. What people were saying before was that Tinubu never went to Chicago State University (CSU), that he was lying.

When that was proved that he actually attended the school, then the next desperation from them showed up and they jumped to certificate. For Christ sake why cant Nigerians accept defeat and move on. Those who are desperate are the ones opening Nigeria to the whole world in their quest to be in power. I blame the opposition for being so bitter and not accepting defeat so they resorted to fighting to bring the county down through all those accusations.

I thought they (Atiku and Obi) would have insisted on who scored the majority of votes but no, they were not interested in that because they know Tinubu scored the highest votes. They now started looking for technicalities and certificates and other ridiculous things like Abuja alone determining the fate of Nigerians.

I am happy justice has been done because it would have been so unjust if Tinubu was removed by the court because he won the election. It would have been terrible and for those who are bitter, I think it is good for them to start preparing for the next four years instead of deploying all means to want to bring down the country.

I saw a lot of desperations and that is not good for the country. Tinubu won the election and all those anxiety and separations were not necessary. The best thing was to move on and wait for the next election year, he said further.

Politics / President Tinubu Meets French Presidential Envoy As Nigeria Prepares For Return by adex3g(m): 8:02pm On Nov 03, 2023
President Bola Tinubu, on Friday in Abuja, expressed his appreciation to France for the return of $150 million stolen from Nigeria by former Head of State, General Sani Abacha.

In addition to the recovery of another tranche of Abacha loot, the President acknowledged the signing of a €100 million agreement between Nigeria and France to support the i-DICE programme -- a Federal Government initiative to promote investment in Information and Communications Technology (ICT) and Creative Arts Industries.

The agreement was signed by Dr. 'Bosun Tijani, the Minister of Communications, Innovation and Digital Technology, and the French Minister of Europe and Foreign Affairs, at an earlier event at Tafawa Balewa House, the headquarters of the Federal Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

President Tinubu commended the strengthening of bilateral relations between Nigeria and France, noting that this progress followed his visit to Paris after his inauguration.

"Thank you for the good news on the return of Abacha loot. We appreciate your effective cooperation concerning the return of Nigeria's money. It will be judiciously applied in attaining our development objectives," the President told Catherine Colonna, the Minister of Europe and Foreign Affairs of France, who delivered the news.

The President, while emphasizing the need to reinforce collaboration on both political and economic fronts, welcomed the growing cooperation between the two countries in areas of shared interest, such as climate change, economic integration, education, and culture.

On the situation in Niger Republic, President Tinubu, who is the Chairman of the ECOWAS Authority of Heads of State and Government, said Nigeria is monitoring the situation in the neighbouring country, and exploring diplomatic channels to avoid bloodshed.

"Leadership is about responding to the needs of the people; their cries, and their frustrations. Nigeria shares a border with Niger across the expanse of seven Nigerian states, and most of these states are very populated. Therefore, I need to guide ECOWAS carefully and steadily so that we manage our anger carefully.

''We have a colleague and a democratically-elected leader, President Bazoum, being used as a human shield. If we are not careful, he and his family can be endangered.

''I am deploying all appropriate back-channel strategies to avoid bloodshed in Niger Republic. We recognize the wishes of our people; they do not want war, but that does not mean we can not take bold and decisive action," the President affirmed.

President Tinubu said Nigeria will continue to galvanize international partners in the determined pursuit of a peaceful resolution to the situation in Niger Republic.

The French Minister of Europe and Foreign Affairs conveyed the goodwill of President Emmanuel Macron and expressed the readiness of France to expand mutually beneficial collaboration with Nigeria across multiple sectors.

She proceeded to extend a formal invitation to President Bola Tinubu to attend the forthcoming Paris Peace Forum.

Speaking on the Abacha loot, the French Presidential Envoy said the repatriation followed the completion of legal processes.

"It was a long process, but we are glad that it was concluded. Sometimes, justice may be slow, but this is a very good achievement," she said.

Ms. Colonna also commended President Tinubus leadership in ECOWAS, saying: "We support your efforts at ECOWAS. We are behind you because we believe that constitutional order is a treasure for all countries, and democracy must be a reality."
