I don't think that's absolutely true. For me, I took 3 liters of palm oil and Ethiopian airline never rejected it. My bag overweighed sef. I wished I took more palm oil as it's expensive here.

Wow... I was able to read from page 1 to this point (no joke! most of my intended questions were answered along the line). My visa is out but just waiting to get a World Safety Organization HSE certification (hoping to use that to boost employment prospects. I studied electrical engineering, 1 year experience, but have teaching experience, 2years) I did last year. I hope to book ticket for Feb 14th (visa expires Feb 23rd, I hope that's safe?). With a lot that I have read on this platform (the discouraging and encouraging stories and comments but at this point, no going back right?!), I can say there's a lot to look out for in Dubai when I come job hunting. Can I begin to search for job tailoring my cv with the experiences that I have (I don't know how possible looking at not having address/phone number yet in the UAE) on the websites like naukrigolf, indeed etc)?
Any one to answer, please?

I am very okay bro. What I meant is the validity for use of the visa to enter UAE not the 90days to stay in UAE that's expiring Feb 23rd (still in Nigeria as stated). Endeavor to understand comment(s) before you quote, please. Thank you.

Frankrobbn1:
adexyz91,

Generally the chances of getting a study permit application approved with a year program is usually Slim but not impossible. Reasons because the Visa officer sees such applicant as not a genuine student, who will complete the course of study in Canada and would depart at the end of the authorized stay and they also believe that such applicants are using study permit as a means to facilitate entry into Canada.
It will be best you secure admission for a 2 years program and reapply OR If you think you can convince the visa officer then go ahead and provide a rational explanation to why you opted out for this course.

All the best!
TravelRe: Canadian Student Visa Thread Part 13 by adexyz91(m): 10:57pm On Feb 11, 2018
Am really grateful Frankrobbn1. Are you advising I quit the course? Cos I actually deferred to fall
Frankrobbn1:
Hello adexyz91,
On behalf of the forum we say we are deeply sorry about the outcome of your application.

Sir/Ma,
Your GCMS note is clearly pointing at your home ties, the job offer you presented. The visa officer is not satisfied that such job offer will compell your return back home, your family too they are not satisfied your family can compel your return back home, you have not convinced the visa officer the benefits of studying such program in Canada rather than Nigeria, there are limited proof of property and assets which can compel your return back home.

Below listed are what you can do to tackle the concerns of the visa officer :

1-) Start by drafting a wonderful SOP/LOE clearly stating why such course deserves to be taken in Canada rather than Nigeria.
2-) The benefits of such course after completion of studies in Canada.... Go as far as convincing the visa officer that the chances of securing a job in Nigeria is very high after studies in Canada.
3-) Let them know you're a genuine student and you're applying in good faith(strictly for studies and nothing else) and you will be coming back after your studies in Canada.
4-) Please the job offer you included do away with it in your next application( As the Visa officer said that the employment evidence does not constitute a tie to your home country)
5-) Let them know you're not using study permit as means to facilitate entry into Canada, by letting them know that there are better living/job opportunities here in Nigeria after your studies in canada(proof them wrong that Nigeria is not a troubled Nation).... You and I know say na troubled nation sha grin
6-) In your next application try as much as possible to include assests/properties in your name okay, it will go a long way in addressing personal assests raised by the Visa officer.
7-) Add each and every members of your family birth certificates (All your siblings) in next your application.
8-) Lastly, change your course to a 2 years and above program, that is reasonable to your previous studies/job role.

If you do the above 8 mentioned. Your next application will be a success.

All the best!

After careful review of your study permit application and supporting documentation, I have determined that your application does not meet the requirements of the Immigration and Refugee Protection Act (IRPA) and Immigration and Refugee Protection Regulations (IRPR). I am refusing your application on the following grounds:
• I am not satisfied that you will leave Canada at the end of your stay, as stipulated in subsection 216(1) of the IRPR, based on the purpose of your visit.
• I am not satisfied that you will leave Canada at the end of your stay, as stipulated in subsection 216(1) of the IRPR, based on the limited employment prospects in your country of residence.
• I am not satisfied that you will leave Canada at the end of your stay, as stipulated in subsection 216(1) of the IRPR, based on your current employment situation.
• I am not satisfied that you will leave Canada at the end of your stay, as stipulated in subsection 216(1) of the IRPR, based on your personal assets and financial status.

I appreciate your time in replying.. Thanks. The problem is that I barely have a work history that shows good influx in my account, I think that will be major concern..
OriEyeLe:
Well I'm yet to submitted but almost done, one thing is only you can write 100% truth about yourself in your SOP then after that you can give gurus to help you review it, that's the mistake I made in my previous app, no one can write 100% truth about your life than you.

so on the purpose of visit, I didn't talk more than a line about my undergraduate studies since I'm using my work experience (different course from my undergraduate entirely). So I talk more on my work experience, I explained more on why my intended course warrant the cost of studies and benefits of the course here in Nigeria by citing facts and figures they can look up, i explained how my work experience has prepared me for my intended course and how it will help me contribute to the class, I explained how some subjects in my intended course will help me upon return to my job, why Canada and why the school, how to finance my studies, I explained reasons why I must come back. I didn't go deep the way I did now in my previous app.

On the weak employment thing; now I explained what I do at work, my position, how it has prepared me for this course then I submitted work related documents( I didn't explain what I do at work in my previous app)

Limited employment prospects: this is about future plans I guess, I explained what I will be doing after my studies with proofs and why I will return to Nigeria, I explained why the course is more useful to me in Nigeria than in Canada.

Personal asset : I didn't submit any personal assets documents before, now I'm submitting my own statement of acct, my landed documents, car docs too and I took advantage of my parents assets too as I will inherit some. I briefly explained this is separate letter addressing how I have tackled the refusal reasons

not sufficient family in Nigeria thing: I discussed little about my family ,our numbers and now I'm planning to submit my siblings birth certificate and add them in my new app as I didn't even talk about them in my previous app at all

That's how I tackled it and I hope it works for me this time. May God help Us

Hello, I randomly got this online and I decided to message. I will be writing IELTS next week Wednesday starting with speaking 31st Jan (I hope it's not too late). Can I get some materials from you please. Here's my email: chelseadex@gmail.com
Lucious477:
Hello all, I'm sharing this to encourage others.

I started my journey by considering both Canadian and Australian Immigration but made up my mind to drop Australia movement for that of Canada due to the cost involved, also Canada PR process looked more straight forward to me.

ECA
I decided to use WES for my assessment because I'm an Engineering professional and WES is needed in processing future professional engineering qualifications in Canada, as well as sending transcripts to Canadian Universities in the future. Also, I took the pain to assess both my BEng and MSc degrees (both from Nigerian schools) because of the above reasons.
I started processing my WES application in August 15, 2017 and my WES E-copy report got ready in Nov 30, 2017 (timeline 2.5 months). My WES hardcopy report got to my apartment- delivered by NIPOST on January 4, 2018 (used standard delivery, $7). Although, I have never used the hardcopy.

IELTS
Took my exam on October 14, 2017 and passed on first attempt LRWS 8.5, 8, 7.5, 7.5 (Max point for Express Entry)
-My study tips
I studied for two months (1 month intensive).
I printed the test answer booklets for reading, listening and writing test (got them free online). Reason is because I wanted to simulate typical exam conditions and I also practiced using a stopwatch.
-Listening
I practiced using the Cambridge material from 2016 to the end. A week to my exam, I did two listening test everyday in order to stay sharp. To be honest, I hardly scored 8 during practice and multi choice questions were my weakness so I spent more time at these. During my exam, I followed the audio recording by moving my pencil beneath the sentences on my question sheet in order to constantly stay focused. I ensured I read all instructions carefully.

-Reading
I practiced using all the past questions on General training reading that I could lay my hands on. I ensured I timed myself to finish in 45mins and checked my work with 15mins. I rarely scored 8 during practice. During my exam, I finished under 50mins, checked my work with 10mins(very helpful because I discovered some mistakes, which I corrected).

-Writing
www.ieltsliz.com was a great companion. I adopted all her different essay and letter formats(very helpful). I wrote at least 1 essay per day (most times). I read using a digital dictionary (for looking up words). I practiced with a stopwatch and tried to finished both parts under 50mins so that I could use the 10mins left for checks. During my practice, I knew how many lines I needed to write, to achieve the required minimum number of words (since I used the IELTS answer sheet). During my test, I finished under 45mins and used 15mins for checks.
-Speaking
I practiced using a voice recorder, which made it possible for me to assess myself. Sometimes I practiced in front of my wife (she acted as the examiner). During my test, I had a relaxed conversation with the test official. I tried to expand my speech, such that the examiner always had to stop me.

I noticed that I was more interested in learning/improving my English language skills than just passing the IELTS test. So it turned into a stronger desire for me. I also realised that passing IELTS can only be done by understanding the test (tricks, structure and rules). To understand IELTS one has to learn from tutors such as Liz and then practice what they have learnt.

I spent more time and resources practicing for IELTS because I needed to overcome my weakness. I gave it my time (despite my 9-5 job) and studied as if my life depended on it. I prepared and wrote my test such that my wife (a nursing mother) won't have to write and also save the money.

My CRS is 454 (lost 27 points since I'm married and my spouse didn't write IELTS or did ECA, but it didn't matter)
Created my profile Dec 5, 2017 got ITA Dec 6, 2017.

I'm presently on AOR stage- Jan 12, 2018.
I'll give detailed update on how I packaged my application for submission on a different post.

Special thanks to God for His grace, and everyone who took out time to contribute on this platform.

Godspeed also to all those preparing for IELTS, waiting for ITA or expecting PPR.

It will end in praise!

TravelRe: Canadian Student Visa Thread Part 13 by adexyz91(m): 10:14pm On Jan 07, 2018
Copied for the person asking about how to tackle purpose of Visit i think.
Hello Room!

I was going through the thread and I noticed that most applicants were refused of their study visas based on the following grounds shorlisted on this post and this has given most of them sleepness night, some have decided to quit the Canadian dream and end up having the mindset that Canadian study visa is tough and can not be easily approved unless you use an AGENT, some even go as far as paying millions to AGENTS just to get their study visa. I must tell you that it is a lie, most agents even go as far as complicating issues for applicant, which most times lead to misrepresentation and a 5 years Ban. After reading this post, you have to get up to your feet , beat your chest and do things in the right way and get your study permit app approved Asap.

RECENT REFUSAL GROUNDS:

1-) Purpose of visit
2-) Current employment situation
3-) Personal asset and financial status.
4-) family ties in Canada or home country.

In this post I'll address the above reasons and give POSSSIBLE WAYS to tackle the concerns of the visa officer.

1-) PURPOSE OF VISIT -

It is important that your visit coincides with an important event in your life or the purpose of the visit can be reasonably explained in your SOP. If it is for study you must have qualifications in that field or have the expertise in that area. Most times, your job role or company should be relevant to previous studies and to your chosen field of study in Canada.
If you decide to change career path, it should be clearly stated on your SOP with compelling/strong/ and convincing reasons to why you decide to change a career path.

Your letter of intent should reflect the following and should be addressed in each paragraphs to avoid repetition.
1-) Describe your academic background briefly.
2-) Why you choose Canada not Nigeria.
3-) The school.
4-) The program of choice.
5-)How you intend to finance your studies in Canada without working.
6-) What you intend to achieve at the end of the program and how it might benefit you in the future.

Everything should point to 'studying in Canada' not working or visiting friends and family in Canada or securing a PR after completion of studies.

Address all academic backlogs, study gaps, study plans etc... on your SOP.

2-) CURRENT EMPLOYMENTSITUATION

Every embassy will like to satisfy themselves that the applicant has a gainful employment in their country of residence and that the prospects of getting a job when they loose their current one is high. That satisfies them that you won’t leave your job when you travel to their country. Canada’s High Commission is no exception. You need to prove to them that you’ve been working for at least 2 years continuously, you earn a good salary, say CAD$400- CAD$1,000 plus a month depending on the level of your education, you have leave to travel, and you are qualified for the job you are currently employed in. So add your CV, school certificates, previous and current job offer letters, leave letters, pay slips and introductory notes from your firm to evidence your employment.

3-) PERSONAL ASSET AND FINANCIAL STATUS

Like most embassies, the Canadian High Commission will also be interested in your finances. Show a 6-month bank statement or more for any Canada visa application; both current and savings accounts, showing your salaries or income from employment. If you have treasury bills, building society savings, mortgages, microfinance or credit union savings and the pass book or certificates, share investments in companies etc, add all to prove you have enough financial resources before and after your trip. There is no cut off bank statement figure. So try as much as possible to show your monthly inflow and outflow of salaries in your salary bank statement with a good closing balance as a proof of financial establishment.

4-)

FAMILY TIES IN CANADA OR HOME COUNTRY

Prospective travellers who were refused with this point wondered why they should have a family in Canada before being given the visa. Note that the full statement is “family in Canada OR family in your home country”. So its either you failed to prove each criterion or both criteria, that is, whether you have family ties in Canada or whether you have family ties to your home country. This is what you do :

Show sufficient ties to your home country i.e. what will compel you to return home?

1-) Do you have a spouse and kids(minors) and are you leaving them behind?
2-) Do you have elderly parents who depend on you?
3-) Do you own businesses/property that you need to continue managing?
4-) Do you have adequate funds?
5-) Do you have family members whom are not accompanying you to Canada?

All these mentioned are HOME TIES, so if you have any of the following listed, endeavor to show evidence to each of them and make sure you add it to your application.

The above information is Legit and was obtained from a Canadian Legal personnel.

I wish you all Merry Christmas and a prosperous New Year.

All the best to the hopefuls and to the approved, CONGRATULATIONS!!!.

You don't need to worry about employment Sir!, if you are a fresh graduate. Make sure you clearly state that on your app that you just graduated and you will be fine.
