Listen carefully I 've been a strong active menber of nairaland for a long time. I 've benefited a lot from here and as a result I am aware of the implication of anything I do here. I don't come here to say what I cannot do. You are right I don't leave in Canada niether did i claim I do. But my friend and work mate just relocated to Canada not up to two months ago. I am not gonna state details here but he crossed from USA.that's the best I can say. Brandish me any name but lots of people that know me knows who I am. Nobody has encountered me and got misinformed. I bought my car at nairaland. A nairalander by name Siena based in London bought me a bran new car battery and he gave it to Gazzus to present to me. My story is well known here.

Again, thank you for all the contributions. I really appreciate them.

For the questions, if we continue with the original Houston plan, I will arrive in Houston at less than 35 weeks and we would be flying Delta to Canada and Houston. Delta has minimal requirements for expectant mothers below 36 weeks. Hubby will be unable to stay with me for longer. The time he has will be before the baby is born if not his medicals will expire.

So far the Alberta option is the best for Canada. Enjoy the free health care, my baby has the Canadian passport and we fly to Houston as soon as we have the passport. The cons are that at some point in the future I may need to repay the costs and I will be very very alone for the birth. To say that is not scary will be a lie. However, my sister (no experience with babies either) already has a PR card (did a soft landing last year) and is willing to spend time with me when my baby is due. I have started applying for my mum's visitor visa (please anyone with tips on how to expedite this please let me know).

If we stick to the less liked option of Houston, at the POE, we tell them that family support is the main reason for birthing in America instead of Canada. Last quarter of 2019, when we move finally we file for family sponsorship for our child. From what I read and our discussions with a lawyer, the need to prove financial ability is waived for dependent children and the child can be in Canada (legally) during the sponsorship. Most of the sad stories, the children usually needed a visitor visa to enter Canada or the baby was born before the family arrived at the port for their first landing and they did not declare the change.

The major con is that immigration laws can change, sponsorship can be long and stressful and there are absolutely no guarantees. This is even more scary and sounds like something to be avoided.

So please if you know any nice people in Calgary I don't mind making new friends. I promise that I am a good person. lol.

Vcole and Blessedlovedfavd please I may need info from you guys on doctors and hospital so I will be sending you messages.
Wish you safe trip and delivery in canny, I know you are scared as a first time mum but we women have the strength to pull through.

@geebaby10: Coming to Canada to give birth is the best option to avoid stories that touch in future as other landed seniors have stated.

Medical is free in Alberta, no waiting period. I gave birth 43days after landing in Calgary. The officer gave me my healthcare number without the card within 3days to be able to register at the hospital.the healthcare card came after 7days. All the lab tests , scans and delivery were free. No one asked how long I will be staying here.

Several people have done xray with pregnancy, they only take additional precautions, you need to inform the medical personel if the pregnancy is not obvious.
Noted, thanks

Hello Everyone ...I have a burning question here... Is it true that if one declares during medicals that she is pregnant PPR won’t be issued until after the due date? Even if the due date is more than 6months after AORhuhHas anyone experienced this please or is it just an assumption?
If you are pregnant when you go for medical, you won’t be allowed to do X-ray until after delivery

If pregnant after AOR and you inform them, you will be given PPR before your due date if all your documents are intact( I wrote cic and they requested for scan reports of the pregnancy)

My naija driver’s license will be 2years in January, I did the knowledge test and applied for exemption. I have the class 7 license and they said I can go ahead and do the basic road test now or wait till January for the advanced road test.

I had a baby last Wednesday , PR cards received and my older child has been paid child benefits for October & November, thought we had to wait for 3months before the ist pay

Landed Calgary a month ago, shared my landing experience earlier. Calgary is cold, I’m mostly indoors except when I go for Dr’s appointment or lil shopping. The people are friendly especially when they realize you are expecting a baby soon.
I’m still eating my naija foods (brought in supplies for minimum of 6months, LOL) but recently went to farmers market in NorthEast to get tomatoes, pepper etc which is way cheaper than buying at Superstore.
Here is the address for anyone interested with pictures.

I’m looking for where to buy MEAT in bulk, will appreciate contacts cos I wanna stock up cos baby is due in 2weeks or even less

Good day all, I have been a silent follower of this thread. I'm here to share my arrival journey in Canada on 23rd September 2017.
Journey started Friday 22nd, used Egypt air was very skeptical about them but they surprised me with their service and flight to Cairo and Toronto was very smooth (I was given express check in at both airport cos I'm pregnant and had an active 3yrs old also). The flight to Toronto was extremely long and tiring but Egypt air hostesses made sure I was comfy, assisted me with extra pillows, blanket, hot tea, snacks and even told me to relax on 2seats that were vacant.
Immediately we got to Toronto, hubby and I started running towards immigration cos we had a connecting flight to Calgary in 3hrs. Immigration process was smooth and fast cos we were one of the ist to reach there, proceeded to customs, experienced thrashing of goods, some even searched documents. I started praying seriously our bags shouldn't be searched (3check in bags and 3hand luggage) cos it will waste time. the custom's guy noticed I was pregnant cos my hubby told him so I can have a seat and my son was over the place. We listed all the goods and value that we are importing before we got to the airport so he just stamped and gave us clearance form. None of our bags were opened, it can only be God
We basically ran from terminal 1 to 3 for the next flight which was long journey, got there just about check in was closing ( missing flight would have cost us extra 300CAD, Choi). Arrived safely at Calgary and a friend came to pick us. Starting search for a house today and other plenty stuffs.
Thank God for a smooth arrival and wish those yet to come a safe and smooth arrival also
An update:Settling in has been ok, gotten my SIN, awaiting healthcare number, customs gave us tough time in clearing our goods(3days) saying it was much over 400kg (LOL, I brought the whole naija) had to pay demurage . They scattered our bags like rats but luckily nothing was thrown away(my knorr cubes, powder milk escaped).Gotten an apartment with bills inclusive, definitely move in next week, register in a clinic, shop for winter clothes, stock up on meat, tomatoes and pepper. Things here are expensive

Pls I need clarification on type of generic mails sent by the UK embassy. I applied for a 2 year visa renewal for myself and 6months for wife and son last week and got dis mail dis mrg.

dear xx xx xx

A decision has been made on your UK visa application. Your application will be despatched within 48 hrs. If anyone contacts you advising that your application is still under consideration or that they can influence the outcome of your application in any way, please disregard as they cannot. You should not expect to receive any further notification from this office.

Kind regards,

Lagos Visa Section

I'm nervous because the message is harsh, has anyone gotten this exact message and still issued Visa?

Hello Justwise, I am applying for tourist UK visa for myself, wife and 2yrs old son. My wife is unemployed and I'm sponsoring the trip,I have a private company but using my savings account and fixed deposit to apply. I have been to UK for study, holiday and also Germany for hols. The issue is applying for my wife since she is unemployed and hasn't travelled.I wanna ask if I'm to fill in exactly the same amount as I did for mine for these questions

-what is the cost to you personally of your trip in GBP(£)?
-The total amount of money you have for this trip?
-The cost of the aeroplane, boat or train tickets ?
-The cost of your accommodation ?
-The cost of your living expenses ?
-Is someone other than you paying for all or a part of your trip?
- What is the total cost of your trip, including money others may be giving you, in GBP(£) and if I'm to write N/A for my son

Also is it necessary for her to put her savings account since I'm sponsoring the trip?
Please need a reply as soon as possible
