PoliticsRe: Obasanjo In Aba During The Nigerian Civil-War (Picture) by Adindupeter: 6:33pm On Nov 29, 2013
debetmx: Imaging an ibo man preaching humanity to us. If your fore-fathers had practiced what you are preaching in 2013, we would not had the stu.pid war. If your fore-fathers had practiced humanity they would not have cowardly killed the leaders of other regions while they spared theirs.

PROVOCATIONS

"While all of this was going on, complaints about “Igbo provocations”, were increasing. Northerners filed reports about parties being called by their Igbo colleagues to celebrate what they called the “January Victory”. Offensive photographs showing Major Nzeogwu standing on the late Sardauna of Sokoto were said to be distributed in the open including market places. Some Igbos were even alleged to have worn stickers to that effect and were eager, in conversations with northerners, to point to Nzeogwu saying ‘Shi ne maganin ku”, meaning “he is the one who can knock sense into you”. Grammophone records with machine gun sounds were released, to remind Northerners, it is said, of the bullets that felled their leaders in January. Celestine Ukwu, a popular Igbo musician allegedly released a piece titled “Ewu Ne Ba Akwa” meaning “Goats are crying” in Igbo (although there is an account that claims that this song originated from a non-igbo artiste from Rivers). Derogatory remarks about Northerners were reportedly commonplace, even in Army Barracks. To compound matters, resentment began building against Igbo traders who had allegedly raised the prices of their foodstuffs to match the increases in the West. All of these factors were shrewdly exploited by an unlikely coalition of disenfranchised politicians, petty contractors, marketing board and northern development corp debtors, civil servants and university students of northern origin fearful of future career prospects in the public service. As former President Shehu Shagari put it in his biography “Beckoned to Serve”, …’From the northern viewpoint, the implications of all this in terms of distribution of power, the allocation of public resources and amenities, the prospect of Igbo and southern domination, and the threat to mainstream northern ways of life were unmistakable.’ Opposition to unification in particular was spearheaded by northern students and civil servants".

PoliticsRe: PDP Expels Baraje, Oyinlola, Jaja by Adindupeter:
Baraje-led PDP splitter group denies merger
with APC

Abuja - The Alhaji Kawu Baraje-led Peoples
Democratic Party (PDP) splinter group said it
had not formally merged with the All
Progressives Congress (APC) as reported in
the media.
The National Publicity Secretary of the group,
Chukwuemeka Eze, denied the merger when he
spoke with newsmen in Abuja on Wednesday.
According to him, the group is still open to
reconciliation, what happened on November 26
is a declaration of intent to merge.
“The parties in the alliance have just set up a
committee to work on the conditions of the
purported merger. Can we merged without
conditions,” he asked.
Eze said the event which took place at Kano
Governors' lodge in Abuja was misrepresented,
adding that the parties involved were yet to
sign the memorandum of understanding (MoU).
He said the report of the committee would be
submitted to the steering committee on Dec.
26, adding “it is only after we have signed the
MoU that you can say we have merged.”
The spokesman of the splinter group said
Baraje’s first phrase was that “we have agreed
to work together, but it was Chief Bisi
Akande, who insisted on the use of the word
merger.”
“I want to tell you that the matter is not
concluded. We have to share positions.”
“We have to agree on what will go to us, and
what will go to us, is what the committee is
still working on, nobody has signed the MoU,”
he said.
The publicity secretary said the splinter group
would attend the December 1 peace meeting
called by President Goodluck Jonathan, adding
that “all options are still on the table.”
“If the president agreed to our conditions, if
we have agreements on issues that created the
crisis, then we will not sign the MoU with APC
on Tuesday.”
“So, from now till Tuesday, anything is still
possible. If we meet on Sunday and our
conditions are attended to, then the merger
won't go ahead.”
“If Governor Amaechi is returned as NGF
Chairman, if the structures are returned to
the governors of Adamawa, Kano and Rivers,
then our leaders will look back and stop signing
the MoU.”
He, however, said that the splinter group was
not desperate.
“It was the way we are being treated that is
making everybody desperate. Who will not be
desperate with the way we are being treated,”
he said.
The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports
that the Baraje-led splinter group had in a
communiqué, after a meeting with official of
the APC on November 26, agree to merge.
The communiqué was signed by Akande, the
interim National Chairman of the APC and
Baraje, on behalf of the splinter group
The PDP National Disciplinary Committee
headed by Dr Umaru Dikko, had recommended
the expulsion of Baraje, Olagunsoye Oyinlola
and Sam Jaja from the PDP.

PoliticsRe: 49 House Members Decamp To APC by Adindupeter: 11:17am On Nov 27, 2013
ndu_chucks: Why are you people so lazy that you can't lookup simple information, but instead you'll confidently make pronouncements which project you as uninformed?

The constitution allows for these house members to decamp, in fact Section 68 (1) of the 1999 Constitution allows defection of any lawmaker if there is division in the political party of which he was previously a member or a merger of two or more political parties or factions by one of which he was previously sponsored.

Their seats cannot be constitutionally rendered vacant. I expect additional defection from the house and senate in coming days. I'm sorry to say that GEJ's days are numbered.
"Section 68 (1) of the 1999 Constitution allows defection of any lawmaker if there is division in the political party of which he was previously a member or a [b]merger of two or more political parties or factions by one of which he was previously sponsored." nPDP is not recognised by INEC hence its not a faction... so this is supposed to justify the bulletproof cars?
cheesy

people in far more sensitive ministries with portfolios that are way more controversial have not been shot at, its now this one awarding inflated contracts to do shoddy repairs of bus stations called airport that will be shot at?

they shot at your car on Friday, you reported on Monday!....... seriously? serving minister?

and this person that shot had only 1 bullet? and this bullet was shot and it is not recognizable until we do "ballistic tests"?

and is "ballistic test" needed to identify a bullet or rather decipher where it was shot from and identify which gun was used?

why do we have dumb people in government?
Relax buddy.. This is just punch newspaper side of the story.. Wasn't the same punch that reported that the committee setup for enquiry on Oduah's bullet proof car recommends the sack of the minister weeks before they were through?

Anyone who was expecting Jonathan to deal with corrupt elements in his government should get his/her head examined. Jonathan has taken over the tag of most corrupt president from IBB. In a sane world, GEJ would have asked Stella Oduah to stepdown during investigation.

Even after the Anti- Ngige programmes aired on the electronic media in Anambra, people still voted massively for him. Rigging aside, Ngige will win Obiano hands down with a landslide.
He will never win Obiano (Apga).. He was quite popular but it all ended when Acn merged with Cpc and Anpp.. His comment when Fashiola deported some Igbos worsened it.. If he contested under Lp or Ppa he would have won.. Ngige will always win on Fb, NL, SaharaReport and co..
