Normally, I try to only make RESPONSEs that would be useFul to more people.

Now, He said he got 1.2 Million naira, and going by the stated Load, he would not be able to easily afford a solar setUp even with said 1.2-million naira.

Now those in our line of Business (aka solar installers) do understand USEd Solar Panels are always in demand - enter market make you see as people dey buy am like water. You go order like 30pcs think say you don buy market till you see another wey buy pass you.
Guess what, a lot of them ends up being sold as brand new.

As per why I still use Tubular and lead Acid batteries even in 2025, that's because not all of us are financially Fluid. Some people could easily raise 1.5-million naira and should anythng go wrong, can raise same or more almost immediately.
Then there are those of us that would need several months to save up 1-million naira; and should anything go wrong, na to wait till further notice.

Also e get those of us wey be say we no fit easily survive a single failure in our system

e.g a single cell of 3.2v for instance could be the only thing making your 7.5kw lipo4 battery to stop working HENCE you either replace the entire thing, or look for where to do cell extraction both of which ain't CHEAP at all.
Now imagine say na 4 strings of Lead Acid / Tubular batteries, and one of them goes bad, na to replace just that one (don't bother telling me it's MIXing old and new batteries) or temporarily downGrade. So you see, me (and I know I'm not alone) no get that kind money.

same goes with using hybrid inVerters with it's baked in charge Controller; a single fault to the inverter or charge Controller is akin to putting all your eggs in a single basket - I rather pay more to have 2 separate systems, than a single one even if it's seems CHEAPer.

Also same with very large solar panels, I rather go with 4pcs of 450w Solar panels, than 2pcs of 900watts Solar panels which would still give a total of 1,800 watts. You know why, because among other things, a single solar panels going bad either means You loose either 900w or just 450w.

Even in computers, I prefer having 2 sticks of ram each being 32GB than a single 64GB ram stick.
in fact if said computer got space for 4 ram sticks, I would go with 4pcs of 16GB rams.

Another issue I got with Hybrid inverters is, they are more fragile, and expensive + chances of successful repairs is often very low. Funny enough, I never use am personally before BUT no be all of us need chop before we know the taste of the pudding. Imagine buying an Inverter for 500,000 naira make e come burn or spoil and after so much stress, you come receive news say na to change board (not cheap) or complete replacement

Mind you, difference between a brand new, and Used solar panels is NOT often much judging from their outPut.

Also, Difference between Lithium batteries, and Tubular / LeadAcid batteries ain't much - You think it's much because they want you to THINK so. Major difference is DOD which is 50 in non Lithium based batteries and 80 in Lithium batteries.

Once again, most people got no need for Bi-facial solar panels. Always buy (half-cut) MONO Solar panels.

of course, all the above no concern those wey get better Money.

MAKE I STOP HERE FOR NOW

Want to presume a lot of us do understand all the Rubbish wey I dey talk. Those wey I pity na the innocent Ones wey dey try follow crowd.
The problem here is doubling down on some dogma and overemphasising others. Sometimes, the advise are also contradictory. Hybrid inverter can help someone save money. Some stand alone charge controllers are more expesnive than hybrid inverters of similar configurartion.

Outside tat, there is some wisdom in what you say, especially for people who are low on income and still want to dabble into solar.

Used panels, tubular batteries and hybrid inverters are no brainer for people who have limited resources. I met an installer who told me that he is using solar panels salvaged from the Ibadan bomb blasts. The broken (not just used) panels are still serving him reasonably.

I have both hybrid and non-hybrid inverters, but I prefer separate charge controllers. None of my hybrid inverters has ever been connected to solar. So, lets slow down on controversies and clarify our points clearly.

If you have the means, buy lithium, use separate inverters and charge controllers and use tier one new solar panels. But if your means are limited, used solar panels, tubular batteries and hybrid inverters will save you money and still give you some energy to hold body until you are able to afford better setup.

On the bifacial argument, let me put down my understanding:

Bifacial Tier 1 vs Monofacial Tier 1, same or slightly different prices, Bifacial wins.

Bifacial Tier 1 vs Monofacial Tier 1, significant differences in prize, draw, pick your poison based on price/watt.

Bifacial low quality panel vs Monofacial Tier 1, Monofacial Tier 1 wins for durability, higher efficiency and reliability.

Bifacial low quality vs Monofacial low quality, draw, pick your poison based on expected price/watt.

If all other parameters are the same, Bifacial SHOULD win.

However, let's see real life comparison promised by @Dam5reey1.

To illustrate the point about batteries connected in parallel.

4 batteries. Felicity 200AH with ANT BMS. Tactel 300AH with JK-BMS. CATL (DIY) 280AH with JK-BMS. Valto 173AH with JBD BMS. Felicity and Valto are fully charged, 100% SOC while Tactel and CATL are still actively charging. Each of the batteries are doing their separate thing based on their SOC.

Hi guys, does anyone know why some manufacturers say you can't parallel their LFP. My thinking was one should be able to parallel LFP since they have separate BMS .Just asking for knowledge sake
I don't see any technical reason why you can not connect batteries with same chemistry and similar voltages in parallel. When batteries are conncetd in parallel, they act as individual batteries merely taking and contributing to the pool based on their internal resistance which depends on capacity and voltage. During charging, they take what they need and stop taking once they are full. During discharging, they give whatever they have until their voltages get to that of thers in the parrallel configuration. It is the same behaviour whether there is a BMS or not.

However, manufacturers sometimes give specific instructions about their products, not for technical reasons, but for warranty purposes. It gives them the opportunity to dodge warranty claims if they can prove that your usage was "out of specification". It also helps them simplify troubleshooting when their is a problem.

By the way, I currently run four LFP batteries in parrallel. Two have JK-BMS, one has an ANT BMS and the last has a JBD BMS. They have been running in harmony for years now with no problem. I'm able to monitor the performance of each of them through their smart BMSes.

I know you can't parallel them. I want to buy a 12V lithium battery with good BMS connect it to a 1800W step up converter 12v to 48v and use it as a DC source. Charging will be with an external charger as lithium and lead acid have different charge profiles.

Will this work?

Please, I'd like to ask a question regarding lithium vs Lead acid

I notice with my lead acid that when you put on a heavy device (>2000W) at night (no sunlight) the battery voltage keeps dropping until it goes below the inverter voltage trip point. However, the SOC may still be high > 95%.
1. Does this happen with lithium?
2. Can you use an AC at night and the inverter will not trip?
3. Are my batteries fake/substandard? Does it happen with all lead acid batteries?

Thanks in advance.
This is the real-life experience of every Lead Acid battery user. It was my life for many years when I was on Lead Acid. The State of Charge (SOC) is almost meaningless in an LA setup. The koko is the voltage your battery is reading after putting loads on it. In those days I only pump and boil water during the day when there is good sunlight. Microwave is limited only to daytime, no AC. I even banned a particularly high wattage boiling kettle because it was always shutting down my inverter.

But since I switched to lithium, I have peace of mind. I rarely check my voltage now, only SOC. I pump water early in the morning (to ensure good shower pressure), boil water in the morning (to ensure that no one complains about hot water not enough) and use microwave, toaster, boiling kettle and AC any time including in the night. To show how confident I became about voltage sag, my inverter cut off voltage is set to 50V.

Voltage sag is one major reason I will never go back to Lead Acid.

Especially with the drop in prices of LFP batteries? And increasing ease of getting cells and coupling? Lead acid should only be used as counterweights in gym houses. 😊
He is probably moving to LFP too. No excuse to stay on Lead Acid at this point for a large setup.

MDM means mobile device management which is used by companies to manage their devices. It is used on Macbooks and IPhones.
It's not in all cases that the devices are stolen. For example this was sold by the company in the US that was shutting down operations and selling off their assets. Most times they don't have time to start removing MDM from each of the laptops so they just sell it off like that.
However for this particular Macbook, the MDM profile have been removed and suitable for usage. The only downside is one can't reset it otherwise it will lock.
The MDM has not been REMOVED, but BYPASSED which is why you cannot reset it or it will be RELOCKED again. You may also not be able to update the MacOS. For instance, is this Macbook running the latest MacOS which is macOS 15 Sequoia?

Satellite TV TechnologyRe: Solar Energy, A Complement To FTA by adrusa: 11:50am On Sep 01, 2025
CuteMaro:
So basically, an inverter being able to supply electricity in the absence of battery is not a guarantee for waking a dead battery in the case of a bms shutdown.
When a BMS shuts down, it cuts off the voltage from your inverter. If the inverter can not do batteryless operation, you will need to find another way to wake up your battery. Even if your inverter can work without batteries, there is no guarantee that it will wake up your BMS. Once some BMSes shut down, there are specific methods needed to wake them up, not just supplying them voltage. That is why it is good to set the cut-off voltage for your inverter higher than for the BMS, so that your inverter shuts down before the BMS. Every installer should pay attention to this when installing lithium batteries.

There are also some BMSes that bypasses the BMS for charging or discharging. Such BMSes have another leg that goes directly to the battery without passing through the BMS electronics. That way if your BMS dies, your battery can still be charged or discharged properly and the BMS will come up when the battery gets to the set recovery voltage. However, if you have that kind of BMS, you must set your inverter/Charge controller charging or discharging profiles to ensure that you do not kill the battery with overcharging or overdischarging.

some are just mosfets. To put a solar pv on inverter as battery is an unstable and unpredictable arrngement. There has to be an SMPS inside between that step the DC to a stable output before inverter can easily turn it into a stable-enough AC.
The PWM are just mostly mosfet doing on and off. But true MPPT are true DC-DC converters.

No, you won't as you cant draw more than 150A from the BMS.

Two batteries in parallel is still 12.8v nominal. So in this case you can't get to draw more than 150A, but your backup hours for load under 150A draw will surely double.

Edit: I made a mistake here. You can double the current drawn. But that will be so much current you gotta need a very large conductor.
If the batteries are in parallel, he can draw 150A from each making a total of 300A.

I kept saying "IF YOU HAVE THE MEANS", but some of you are ignoring that. the basic truth is that 48V is more efficient compared to 12V. However, cost is an important factor. However, again IF YOU HAVE THE MEANS, go for 48V even if you set up is not that big now. Remember that when you are ready to upgrade, you may end up having to discard your 12V gears or sell them off cheaply.

Consider my case. I once paid about half a million for 24V Outback VFX inverter. When I decided to upgrade, I had to let the inverter go cheaply. Most people with serious solar setup do 48V, so I couldn't get to sell it at a good price. I also had to get rid of some 12/24V Epever charge controllers and other accessories including 24V bulk converters.

If you are setting up solar system at this time, there is a chance you may be setting up a proper home in 3 years or even less. Your current gears may not be easily upgradable to meet your need then. So, if cost isn't such a serious limitation, go for 48V, you could just upgrade without having to throw anything away or sell cheap.

Of course, if your setup is small and cost is a problem, go for whatever you can afford. My very first home setup was a discarded UPS and two UPS batteries in parallel. It used to power only my TV and Sound system. I later graduated to two car batteries and a 24V Mercury inverter. When I got some money, I stumbled into 24V Outback inverter, a decision I regret to this day.

life na stages bro.. i see no reason y someone cant use a 12v system and who says cc will limit.. u.... the lowest cc i have come across can accommodate 600w while other tend to rise up to 1600w... enough to charge batteries and power loads... bread hybrid inverter takes above 1kw of solar input.. so.... u just have to check ur consumption and know wen 2 upgrade
My solar array is currently 12KW with harvest reaching above 10KW many times. If I'm on a 12V system, I will need like 5 or 6 high current charge controllers and my amperage will often exceed 500 to 800A. That amount of current in a home is a serious fire risk. If you intend to stay in the 1-2KVA range with small appliances, 12V will be okay for you. But if you ever plan on growth, you will one day regret not heeding the advice to go to 48V from the set go. Remember, you won't be a student/bachelor forever. grin

Even if 12V serves your power need, what about the limit it places on your solar setup? Your charge controller will take only 25% of the solar power it will take at 48V when you use it in a 12V system. For anyone starting out, start with 48V if you have the means. One of my major mistakes when I started my solar journey many years ago was starting with 24V due to fears about the cost of batteries. I have since moved to 48V.
