sjeezy8:As mentioned, there are thousands of Yoruba outside Yorubland doing roadside or buka food selling, Okada and kabukabu among other lowly and menial stuff. These are lowly businesses, no doubt. Now, Fasola, in his wisdom, determined who is a beggar in Lagos. In like manner, the North can also determine who is a beggar and an unwanted element in their midst. You only need to go to the North and see the Yoruba population there. |
asha 80: naijatoday:Give them the choice first; try them and find them guilty of the so-called loitering. Some will prefer to go to jail than being sent back to somewhere against their will. Fashola should know that there are thousands if not millions of Yoruba people doing VERY lowly stuff in the North. The North can find their own strategy of confiscating their (Yoruba) numerous buka and kabukabu businesses and send them packing to Yorubaland. The North will not differentiate between Lagos Yoruba and other Yoruba. Fashola is biting more than he can chew. |
Lagos “Deports” 160 Northern Beggers Print E-mail Written by From Samuel Aruwan, Kaduna Saturday, 22 August 2009 03:50 About one hundred and sixty destitute northerners have been dumped on the outskirts of the Kaduna metropolis, allegedly by the Lagos State government, in its drive to free the state of the destitute and beggars, and who are mostly from the northern part of the country. LEADERSHIP WEEKEND reliably gathered that the destitute were secretly dumped on Thursday at around 7 pm at Abuja Junction, along the Kaduna-Abuja expressway, very close to the Federal Cooperative College, Kaduna. The group included men, women and children, mostly crippled, deaf, blind, lepers and others with serious disabilities. This correspondent has it on good authority that they were evacuated by policemen of the state security outfit Operation Yaki, to the Kano Road resettlement camp of people living with disabilities at around 9 pm the same Thursday, while some of them have taken refuge in other parts of the metropolis. At the camp, one of them, Sani Ahmadu, in company of other deportees told LEADERSHIP WEEKEND that they were subjected to excruciating hardship before being taken to Kaduna where they were dumped. “The only thing we gathered was that Lagos State government wants to rid of the destitute, and they commissioned people with sticks, who arrested us and locked us in rooms with lunatics, children and women. We were about 13 in each room.” He further said, “After forcing us into patrol vans, we were kept locked up for four days, They took away our money and property. They would give us food around 6pm then nothing more till 10 am the next day. They never took our health seriously. They just bundled us in vehicles and brought us to Kaduna. We are not from Kaduna. To us this is not fair, because we are Nigerians and we only went there for a while because of our poor condition, and we are suffering from different ailments.” Another of the deportees, Hassan Ali, told LEADERSHIP WEEKEND that it is the failure of leadership that made them leave for Lagos to seek a means of livelihood. “As you know, we are aged and cannot afford the basic things of life, but if we had responsible leadership in our region, we would not leave our houses to a strange land to beg just to survive. “They dumped us here and we don’t have food and Ramadan is likely to begin tomorrow (Saturday). We are also begging that we should be taken to Kano State, because I am from Albasu local government area of Kano State. Some of our women and children have gotten lost in Kaduna.” The Kaduna State commissioner of Women Affairs and Social Development, Dr.Maryamu Laka Madami, confirmed the incident and stated that the state government is making arrangements to transport them to Kano and other states they are originally from, and that the government had taken steps to provide them with food and other essentials before the evacuation, for which, she said modalities have been put in motion. On whether Kaduna State government will take action against the Lagos State government on the matter Madami, said, “First, we have to save lives and stabilise them, but I assure you we will certainly get in touch to correct some abnormalities. But I am reiterating that we have to solve the problem first and we are doing everything possible to take them to their states.” The national vice president of the Joint National Association of Persons with Disabilities (JONAP), Comrade Abdullahi Rilwan, decried the situation, describing the alleged action of the Lagos State government as worrisome, and a violation of the fundamental human rights of the affected as Nigerian citizens, to be deported within the territory of the country. He said, “It is because they are poor, deformed, or because of our disabilities. This also is a challenge to the 19 northern states’ governments and the Arewa Consultative Forum. We are also appealing for rights groups to intervene, because it is a clear violation of their rights and privileges as genuine Nigerians.” The Sarkin Makafin Doka, Mallam Aliyu Yusuf, a blind man and leader in the camp, appealed for urgent attention for the deportees, saying they are in dire need of food and relief materials, considering that the camp cannot sufficiently accommodate all of them. It would be recalled that the Kaduna State government, sometime earlier this year raised an alarm over the increasing presence of the destitute said to have been brought in to the state from the southern part of the country Reacting, however, the Lagos State government denied that the destitute were maltreated in any way. Governor Fashola’s aide on youth, Mr. Badmus, speaking on the BBC Hausa radio service yesterday, said that the Lagos State government had written all the states concerned, adding that their eviction was in their own interest, considering the hazards they faced in Lagos. |
BERLIN – German prosecutors are investigating about 100 professors across the country on suspicion they took bribes to help students get their doctoral degrees, authorities said Saturday. The investigation is focused on the Institute for Scientific Consulting, based in Bergisch Gladbach, just east of Cologne, which allegedly acted as the intermediary between students and the professors, said Cologne prosecutor's spokesman Guenther Feld. Feld confirmed reports of the investigation in both Focus magazine and the Neue Westfaelische newspaper, but would not give further details. The Institute for Scientific Consulting did not answer its phone Saturday. According to the two publications, students paid between euro4,000 to euro20,000 ($5,700 to $28,500) to the company, which promised to help them get their doctorate degrees through its extensive contacts within university faculties. The Neue Westfaelische newspaper reported that "hundreds" of students were involved, and that the company paid professors between euro2,000 to euro5,000 when their clients had successfully received their Ph.D.'s. It was not clear whether the students knew that bribes were being paid. The professors are being investigated on suspicion of fraud, Feld said. "The supervision of a Ph.D. thesis is a public service, and one is not allowed to take money for it," Feld told the newspaper. So far, evidence points to the involvement of about 100 professors across the country spanning "numerous disciplines," Feld was quoted as saying. Most are people teaching classes on a contract basis, rather than full-time professors, he said. Focus reported that the investigation involved universities in Frankfurt, Tuebingen, Leipzig, Rostock, Jena, Bayreuth, Ingolstadt, Hamburg, Hannover, Bielefeld, Hagen, Cologne and Berlin. The investigation was opened last year after another probe of the Institute for Scientific Consulting in connection with a similar scheme. After authorities searched the firm's headquarters in March 2008, the company's head was charged with paying bribes in a case involving a Hannover University law professor. The man, whose name was not released in line with German privacy laws, was found guilty and sentenced in July 2008 to 3 1/2 years in prison, and fined euro75,000. The professor, whose name was also not released, was found guilty as well and sentenced to three years in prison for accepting the bribes. The professor confessed in court to accepting nearly euro200,000 to serve as a faculty adviser to more than 60 doctorate students between 1998 and 2005. The professor said he needed the money to renovate his Hamburg mansion. |
Dora is a realist and not one of the many hypocritical and pretencious leaders that strut the Nigerian space. Shame on those who condemn her for saying her mind. Bunch of hypocrits |
The man seems a sham. People who invent stuff these days do not get anything close to 1 billion as property right. How come you do not find anything about him elsewhere except in his seemingly rag-tag website? |
I doubt if Cecilia is Igbo (married to Urhobo). Even if she is, if found guilty she should be punished accordingly. There should not be any tribal sentiments here as long as the rules are followed. If all the banks in Nigeria, but one, are manned by southerners, it simply means that southerners will be the ones affected when such restructurings take place. Moreover all the replacements of the sacked bank heads are people from the same place as the original MDs (except Union Bank, yet the new head is a southerner). If the south cornered the banking system during Soludo's regime (every other people corner stuff when their man is in charge), it is reasonable and not completely unexpected that a ''more equitable'' distribution of the bank holdings will be put in place, now that an hausa man is in charge. The quota system cycle goes round and round. Lets wait for the report on the only northern-managed bank-Unity Bank. |
Almajiri crooks are grabbing their own national cake. Nigeria is up for grabs by just about anybody. Shame. |
7 CBN Staff Arrested for Diversion of Mutilated N13m From Aisha Wakaso in Minna, 08.21.2009 The Niger State Police Command has arrested seven staff members of the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN), Minna Currency Office for diversion of N13 million mutilated currency meant for destruction by burning. The suspects - AbdulRahman Idris; Umar Alhaji; Shehu Usman; Alhassan Galadima; Lawal Mohammed; Yerima Usman and Danjuma Bello - were alleged to have been involved in the diversion of the mutilated currency they were detailed to destroy but chose to keep the said money. Investigations by THISDAY revealed that among those arrested by the police in connection with the deal were drivers, messengers and some security men on duty who were alleged to be privy to the deal but failed to report to higher authorities. The suspects were alleged to have shared the money with each of them getting N2.9 million; N2.5 million; N2.4 million; N2.7 million and N2.8 million, while Usman and Bello allegedly received N500,000 and N70,000 respectively. THISDAY gathered that some of the suspects had been in the business of diverting sums of money meant for destruction by burning, by sharing such monies among themselves. The police, who said the suspects had been under surveillance for some time, laid ambush for them during their last trip to the burning exercise. It was gathered that six of the suspects were arrested in a bush after successfully sharing the money among themselves. On interrogation by the police, one of the suspects confessed to the crime and named the seventh suspect, who did not go with them to the bush to share the money, leading to his subsequent apprehension by the police. Huge amounts of money were found in the bank accounts of the suspects by the police, while close to N1 million was found in the residence of a member of the gang who was arrested at home. The command’s Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), Richard Oguche, an Assistant Superintendent of Police, when contacted confirmed the story. Bizarre! Fear grips Orile-Iganmu residents…Over claims of search for 24 human heads By Ifeanyi Okolie Wednesday, August 19, 2009 Residents of Orile Iganmu, a suburb of Lagos State have been thrown into disarray following reports of desperate search for 24 human heads allegedly by some traditional religious worshippers in the area, to appease their gods before a gigantic tree standing on the marked portion of the Lagos-Badagry Expressway, could be cut down. The mystery tree advertisement It was learnt that the Iroko tree which existence dates back to the history of the Orile-Iganmu indigenes has served as a protector for the people. It is believed that many indigenes of the area worship the tree and see it as their protector against all evils especially, during the wars in the days of yore. In recent time, a lot of people were seen performing rituals at the root of the tree which has a reddish and whitish band around it. Some times, the stem of the tree would be seen with blood stains whose origin remains a puzzle to all. However, recently when Lagos State bulldozers and caterpillars swung into action following widely reported demolition of buildings and all structures along Lagos-Badagry Expressway to give way for the construction of a 10-lane expressway, the bulldozers got stuck at the base of the tree. Crime Alert learnt that as soon as they got to the base of the tree after demolishing all the buildings around it, a large number of traditional worshippers besieged the area and confronted them. The crowd warned that they should not cut the Iroko tree unless they perform the traditional offerings required by their gods which they said included the presentation of 24 human heads for sacrifice. Based on this, the operators of the bulldozers were said to have stopped work at the site and continued from other areas pending when the issue would be resolved. As soon as they stopped work, news of the search for 24 human heads for sacrifice spread like wild fire in Orile and its environs forcing residents and passers-bye to panic. It was gathered that following this development, some residents fled to their friends and relations living outside the area. The bizzare story has also reduced the usually heavy traffic-hold up in the area at night while shop owners now lock up their stores immediately it is 7pm. Some panic-stricken traders who do not want to be mentioned alleged that the traditional worship-pers may have started the processes involved in the search for human heads pointing out that many people now avoid Orile bus stop immediately it is after 7pm. According to the traders, the fetish exercise has affected their trade as they no longer stay in their stalls as long as they used to for the fear of being harmed. “Even our usually profitable night trading has abruptly stopped due to the fact that customers no longer show up at night for fear of being made victims of the human sacrifice”, they stated. A commercial motorcyclist popularly called Okada (name withheld) who resides in Orile-Iganmu told Crime Alert that since he received the news, he has stopped working late at night. “ I used to work very late at night because my house is close but since I got this news, I have stopped working. I have decided to close at 7 pm and return to my wife and children waiting for me. I cannot afford to risk my life for nothing. Nobody knows when the people looking for human heads would strike. So, I and some other colleagues have stopped working at night”, he said. Also a middle aged widow with three young children who is a fruit trader whose stall is located under the pedestrian bridge told Crime Alert that she would have preferred taking her children out of the area until the Oro is over. “ I don’t know how to explain this but it is very terrible since we heard that the Omo-Onile are looking for 24 human heads for sacrifice. For me, once it is seven O’clock, I don’t want any body to harm me or my children, I will pack my stalls and carry my children back to our house. We don’t know who these people are and I don’t even want to know them and I have also called all my relations not to come around for the time being . We don’t know how long this Oro will last. The reason why I still come out is that my husband is dead and I have nobody to take care of my children”. But some others who reacted to the story described it as ‘mere rumour being spread by ungodly people who knew nothing of what is going on in Orile-Iganmu‘. A Prophet, (name withheld) who resides along, Savage Street, Orile Iganmu said the traditional worshippers carried out some sacrifices last year and they were informed that it was for the tree. “ I saw three naked women carrying calabash filled with fetish substances, on that day they were celebrating their festival. During the sacrifice, they killed a lot of animals and their blood was sprinkled on the tree. The women danced round the tree and a large crowd gathered around them. When we inquired what the sacrifice was meant for, we were told that the Lagos State Government is planning to expand this road and expanding the road will affect the tree. So, they were trying to remove the spirit that was inside the tree that was why they carried out the sacrifice. Since then, I have not heard of any other sacrifice again because my house is not far from the tall tree. But now I have been hearing stories that the traditional worshippers are looking for 24 human heads to perform sacrifice to the tree. I considered it a lie. I have been in this area since I was born and my grand mother is some how related to the Orile -Iganmu family. So, I think I am familiar with little of the Orile-Iganmu history”. On its part, it was gathered that though the Police in the area did not succumb to the rumour which they considered ‘superstitious’, they nevertheless have intensified security in the major streets considered prone to such attacks. It was learnt that Police authorities have embarked on a 24-hour foot and motor patrol in all the nooks and crannies of the area with a view to re-assuring the residents that they have nothing to fear. When Crime Alert visited the palace of the Bale of Orile Iganmu, heavy presence of policemen was noticed and all efforts made to speak with anybody from the palace failed. It was however gathered that the presence of the policemen may be in connection with a recent court judgement on the ownership of the area and not because of the rumour of human sacrifice. The contentious tree was however seen standing conspicuously amidst the rubbles of demolished buildings and other structures. So far, Police sources said they have not received report of any missing person in the area. |

Many people have been kidnapped without ransom being paid, as I have read in naija papers. Plus, even if ransom was paid, it will be stupid of him to come in public and announce that he paid so and so amount to get released. That will simply encourage other kidnappers to go after more affluent people. |

Pete Edochie freed… Nollywood rejoices By AZUH AMATUS, Lagos, PETRUS OBI, Enugu, and GEOFFREY ANYANWU Wednesday, August 19, 2009 Pete Edochie •Photo: Sun News Publishing More Stories on This Section Veteran actor, Chief Pete Edochie who was kidnapped on Sunday at Onitsha in Anambra State has regained his freedom. Daily Sun gathered that Edochie was released on Monday evening by his kidnappers at about 8.p.m, within the Awkuzu axis of the state, and was immediately driven straight to the Government House, Awka, to the warm embrace of the governor, his family members and other top government officials. Confirming the good news, Barrister Iyke Ezenagu, the Anambra State chapter chairman of the Actors Guild of Nigeria (AGN), who played an active role in Edochie’s release, insisted no ransom was paid to the kidnappers. He however, maintained that the joint efforts of the state government, police, AGN, Edochie’s family and the fact that Edochie is a popular actor in Nigeria, all contributed to his quick release and non-payment of ransom to the kidnappers. “ We are all happy that Chief Pete Edochie has finally regained his freedom. In fact, my happiness knows no bound. We also want to immensely thank all those that supported us in ensuring that Chief regained his freedom this soon without any harm. What this means is that Anambra is still safe for movie people or anybody to come and do business or live in. We thank God for everything.” Also reacting, Mr. Ejike Asiegbu, the national president of AGN, said Edochie’s freedom was the triumph of good and popularity over evil. He further warned kidnappers to henceforth, desist from kidnapping or terrorizing Nigerian actors and entertainers. Edochie who was celebrating with friends and well wishers told Daily Sun at his Independence Layout residence in Enugu yesterday that he was grateful to God for making him experience the abduction first hand. Unlike most other kidnap victims who paid heavy ransom to secure their freedom, Pete Edochie said he paid no dime and did not lose anything, not even his mobile phone set. He said he did not know where he was taken to or even the point he was dropped. “All I know is that I was able to pick a cab that took me to a hotel in Awka.” “I was very happy that God allowed me to experience this first hand. They told me they had no business kidnapping me at all. First of all they did not touch me, they did not blindfold me. They did not gag me. They did not hack me they did not tie me, and they said I am their father. “And somehow, that they have managed to hear a lot about me that I am very good to people. That I assist people particularly the downtrodden; That they know all that and you so would not hurt me. I mean they didn’t tie their faces. Nothing. They were discussing with me. “They bought me some drinks, made sure I did not get alcoholically dry. You know as an individual, if you find yourself in a situation like that under siege, you complicate your situation if you experience internal alcoholic drought. So, by the grace of God they were lubricating my system for me and at the same time encouraging me to feel the pulse of their heartbeat. “If the government can put in place a machinery to guarantee that the youngsters who are unemployed and the young girls who are unanchored are entitled to what in America is regarded as social as security and in Britain is called the dough; but at least at the end of each week they will have something in their pocket. There are things that are fundamental to survival of every individual.” Recalleing how he was abducted at gunpoint on Sunday, the popular actor said: “We were coming from Onitsha Ukwu, you know my primary assignment now is taking the film of Rev. Father Tansi round the Catholic churches in the country. When we got to Nkpor junction, around Obosi or so, a bus just came double crossed us and asked all of us to come down and get into the bus. We did. And that was where the captivity started. The young men who are my assistants were all released and they held me. “But I think they wanted me to see what they experience and they treated me with a lot of respect, a lot of reverence. They loved me a lot and they said as far as I am concerned I am their father. That they are not happy doing what they are doing but that they are compelled by circumstances to do that. They believe that the ostentatious life of politicians has inflicted a lot of harshness on their own circumstance as individuals and they think it’s about time they too get their own slice of the national cake. It’s unfortunate that they have to do it the way they are doing it but that they don’t have options.” “Our prayer is that this ugly event should not happen in Nollywood again. These kidnappers should leave us alone. Are they not happy that we are the ones still entertaining and making Nigerians happy in the face of the numerous national challenges confronting us daily as a nation? On behalf of AGN, we want to thank God and all those that assisted us in securing the release of our great actor and veteran of veterans, Chief Pete Edochie. God bless all of us. And to Pete, we say a very big welcome.” While reacting, the Managing Director of O’Jez, the popular Nollywood centre, which had also hosted Edochie in the past, Mr. Anayo Odobeatu, called on the State and Federal governments to immediately address the worrisome security situation, in Anambra State. He also congratulated Edochie and further advised him to take a well-deserved rest. The kidnappers had earlier demanded a ransom of N50 Million which was later negotiated down to N10 Million as at Monday morning. Confirming Edochie’s release, the Anambra State Commissioner of Police, Mr. Uzor Amakulor said that Edochie was released at Aguata, while the kidnap actually took place around Afor Nkpor, near Onitsha commercial city. He further said that the hoodlums had to take to their heels when they got wind of the presence of men and officers of the command However, the command has commenced man hunt for the suspected kidnappers which according to Amakulor, was already yielding positive results. The police commissioner also said signals had been sent across the neighbouring states to Anambra while the respective state police commands were on the trail of the hoodlums. Amakulor assured residents of the state to go about their lawful duties without any fear as the command had taken proactive measures at stemming incidents of violent crime in the state. , Why I was kidnapped - Pete Edochie By Our Correspondent - 19.08.2009 ACE Nollywood actor, Pete Edochie, on Tuesday, said that his kidnappers told him that he was seized in protest of the obscene display of Nigeria’s stolen wealth by politicians. Edochie, in an interview monitored on the Africa Independent Television (AIT), on Tuesday afternoon, said he was well treated by his captors for the 24 hours he was with them, noting that his kidnappers accorded him much respect and dignity. He revealed his kidnappers told him they were not happy with the situation in the country. He said they told him that they were into the criminal act because they wanted to get their own share of the wealth being displayed by politicians. He said the kidnappers stated that although, people were repulsed by the act of seizing people, there was nothing else they could do. He said they refrained from shooting victims to show Nigerians that they were just focused on making money and not taking lives. Edochie, who said they were youngmen, said he was grateful to them for the respect they accorded him. He appreciated Nigerians for the concern during his captivity, saying he had to switch off his phone because he was feeling pains in both ears from taking calls. |

Kunle ''performs'' well, earns himself american wife and visa Submitted by FSU Today Kunle ''performs'' well, earns himself american wife and visa -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Spare parts seller to join American wife soon Monday, August 10, 2009 They met on the internet. They fell in love. A spare parts seller, Kunle Bamidele was completely honest in his dealings with his Kentucky, US-based beau, Robin Martins, and their wedding recently in Ibadan was as topical as it was controversial. Nevertheless, the young man will soon jet out of the country to join his wife. Seye Adeniyi reports. The couple kissing during their wedding. See photo here http://odili.net/news/source/2009/aug/10/602.html He was castigating one of his apprentices for wrong-doing when this reporter got to his shop at Ile-Epo area of Odo-Ona, Abeokuta road, Ibadan, Oyo State. He was so annoyed with the young male apprentice that he brought out the Sunday Tribune edition of 12th of July, 2009 to butress his admonitions to the boy, on the need for him to be truthful, dedicated to duty, and, above all, say the truth at all times. “Look at this young man now (pointing at Kunle Bamidele’s picture featured in the Sunday Tribune newspaper of 12th July, 2009), he reaped the reward of being faithful, truthful and sincere, and that was why a white woman, an American for that matter, left her country for Nigeria to marry him, ‘’ he told the apprentice. Many people thought it was not possible, some tagged it an “arrangeé wedding”, while some are still casting doubts on the unique matrimonial union that took place recently in the city of Ibadan between the duo. Alhaji Laide Eniola, a 70 year-old popular fashion designer at Odo-Ona, along Apata road, Ibadan, was privy to all that transpired during the wedding. Robin Martin, a 41-yr-old Kentuckian, had travelled to Nigeria, some weeks ago, to wed Kunle Bamidele, a 32-year-old spare parts trader at the popular Gate Market, Ibadan. According to the tailor, the wedding ceremony actually took place in his house at the Scout-Camp, along Challenge-Molete road, in Ibadan on July 11, 2009, after the registry wedding at the Mapo Registry hall. On why the wedding festivities were not held at the Bamideles’ house, as was customary, he said Kunle’s father chose the Scout Camp venue to give the American some solace as it was modern and more comfortable than his own, adding that since he and the man were childhood friends, he had to oblige him. The 41-year-old American woman from Kentucky, USA, arrived in Nigeria on Tuesday, July 8, 2009, and the wedding between her and Kunle took place on Saturday, July 11, 2009. She was accommodated, throughout her stay, at the tailor’s house. But why the quick arrangement that eventually led to a wedding between the duo, considering the short-days intervals? Alhaji Eniola has this to say: “Kunle and the American woman had been chatting with each other on the internet for a long time, before the woman agreed to visit him in Nigeria. What really impressed the Kentuckian was Kunle’s sincerity and truthfulness. The woman had used many things to test Kunle’s truthfulness, sincerity, love and faithfulness and, I tell you, the young man is not like other Nigerian youths who are fond of duping Europeans on the internet.’’ He noted that the flight ticket with which the woman travelled to Nigeria was sent to her by Kunle. The bride-to-be had, through the internet, sent the money (foreign currency) to Kunle, instructing him to help her purchase the flight ticket in Nigeria and send it to her, an assignment which Kunle carried out to the letter. “How many Nigerian youths, especially the so called yahoo boys, can do such a thing? I know what many of these yahoo boys can do, and how they are creating a negative image for the country through their dubious activities on the internet. But Kunle Bamidele, now the legal husband of the Kentuckian, did not do that,” he emphasised. The tailor also revealed to Nigerian Tribune that the white woman, who is a divorcee and a mother of two children in Kentucky, was also impressed with her Nigerian husband’s truthfulness and sincerity when Kunle showed her all the receipts/invoices he had used in purchasing every material she instructed asked him to get, preparatory to their wedding, including the receipt for the new generating set that was purchased before her arrival in Nigeria. Robin Martins also surprised many people, especially the people living around the Scout-Camp area of Ibadan, when she took delight in eating traditional foods like amala, fufu, eba, even ewedu, gbegiri and okro soups, without developing bowel discomfort during her stay in Ibadan. He noted that many people had tried to discourage the woman from coming, and yet many others had told the family that the woman would not tolerate the facilities on ground, but she coped admirably well. Concerning the traditional wedding gown (aso-oke), which the couple used for their wedding, the septuagarian also disclosed to the Nigerian Tribune that Kunle was given money to buy the material by his bride, adding that it was he who designed the attire for the couple. ‘’The newly-wedded coupled enjoyed their honeymoon in my house and, I tell you, she was impressed with Kunle’s “performance,” being a black man. She also confessed to me that what she saw and experienced in Nigeria was the entire opposite of all the negative reports she had heard about the country before coming to Nigeria,” the tailor told the Nigerian Tribune. He added that the white woman told him that she was very comfortable in her country, as she presently had two or three companies of her own. But she had to divorce her former American husband because the man used to beat, maltreat, and often subjected her to inhuman treatments despite the fact that she had two children by him. There was a mild drama inside the Mapo Registry hall during the wedding ceremony. The local government officials that conducted the wedding programme were amazed and highly impressed by the woman’s dancing steps. They were pleasantly surprised, especially when the Kentuckian began to lavish dollars on them, when the couple were called to come forward for thanksgiving. Throughout her stay in Nigeria, Robin Martins Bamidele was able to acclamatize to Nigeria’s weather; she did not complain of any ailment or infections. But she kept abusing the Power Holding Company of Nigeria (PHCN), for throwing the country into darkness. Another drama that also ensued during the woman’s short stay in Nigeria, according to Alhaji Eniola, who hails from Ede, Osun State, was between the woman and the Embassy officials when she took her Nigerian husband there to get all the neccessary papers that would facilitate his smooth journey to Kentucky, USA. The Embassy officials did not want to give Kunle clearance documents for the journey, hinging their excuses on their previous experiences with Nigerians. However, when the new bride shouted at them, Kunle was given all the necessary papers, and will soon be going to America to join his new heart-trob. |
Fashanu explains alleged $2bn debt - Begs IBB Bola Badmus, Abuja - 10.08.2009 PRESIDENTIAL Adviser to President Umaru Yar’Adua on 2010 World Cup, Ambassador John Fashanu, has finally opened up on the controversial allegation on the $2 billion debt-buy back against former Military President, General Ibrahim Babangida, saying he was misguided due to exuberance. Fashanu stormed the Minna, Niger State, residence of the former military president, to tender an unreserved apology over accusation which he made in 2002 in several publications. Fashanu paid the surprise visit to the former military president and his wife in company of Chairman/Chief Executive Officer, Reagan Renaissance Group, owner of Reagan Cement, Chief Reagan Ufomba, who brokered the reconciliation, declaring that the former military president was not involved in any allegation of such nature or any allegation at all. Former football international star’s apology came barely two months after one of the former “boys” of the former military General, Mike Mukoro, was taken to Minna by the Osun governor, Prince Olagunsoye Oyinlola, to seek forgiveness for participating in a foiled military coup against the regime of Babangida, in April, 1990. |
