mtchew, bros if a lex luthor film were to be released, it would make n0thing short of 800mill. Forget fan base. [s]C0mic readerz d0n't c0mprise large percentage of cinema goers,[/s] and the fact that the film was R rated, shows how flawed ur logic is. People saw it becos of the themes explored n0t just cos of the genre or character. M0vie audiences have a knack for psychological films i.e g0ne girl and so on. A Lex Luthor film would follow in same pattern as it would show a capitalist manipulating things to his interest, and why capitalists often feel threatened at the sight of a new/alien phen0men0n and would want to manipulate or c0ntrol such to his interest.
Joker's popularity isn't restricted to comic readers though. He's waaaaay more mainstream than Lex Luthor it's not even fair.
The rest, i could agree with.

i disagree with u there. The silver age of c0mics was spearheaded by the introduction of barry allen, the green lantern corps, the jla into mainstream media. Dc brazed the trail in that regard. Although marvel creatd their own f0rmulae in stan lee making marvel characterz m0re relatable than Dc's godly characterz.
You've just made my point. You can make the research. The highlighted is exactly the reason why Marvel ruled the Silver Age, why there was a "Marvel Age Of Comics". All DC did was revamp their golden age characters like Flash in 1956. Quality wise, Marvel stomped. You can check it anywhere

The last season of Agents of SHIELD. I can and cannot wait at the same time.

Joker is a villain not superhero and a lot of people didn't know it will be a massive hit, especially with the way the media dealt with it
He still has a massive fanbase. I never hear of Loki fanboys. Or Lex Luthor fanboys. Or even Venom fanboys. But Joker fanboys? Visit places like ComicVine and 4chan. He's comic book villain #1 in the world. No villain can boast of being as iconic or having as much fans as the Joker.

Well maybe Darth Vader.

This is why I will always tell DC fans to be proud and happy for they are in the superior brand.
Lol. Well, that is debatable. IMO, there's no superior brand. They're generally on equal footing with one surpassing the other occassionally. DC may have come first but Google will let you know that the Silver Age of comics was generally known as the "Marvel Age Of Comics". There is no such subtitle for DC. Superman and Batman are obviously timeless classics. But so is Spider-Man. Also, the name "Marvel" has become synonymous with "superhero" these days. I used to know many friends who thought Batman & Superman were Marvel characters.

In the 2010s, Marvel is clearly the superior brand, but its mostly because of the MCU (which utilizes arguably the most accessible media: film). In the 2000s before The Avengers (2012), DC was superior thanks to Nolan. Joker was fantastic but Infinity War & Endgame were event films anticipated by practically everyone.

This is enough evidence to show that Disney/Marvel is trembling after the unexpected massive success from DC Joker.

Only people with divine knowledge like true DC will see this easily. Lol
Lol. Joker is only behind Supes, Bats and Spidey when it comes to superhero recognition and massive fanbases. Anyone who sincerely thought his movie wasn't going to trounce the Box Office probably doesn't recognize Joker's place in American pop culture.

It is not a dick measuring contest rather it is the fact. Don't know why its difficult for people to admit to facts.

Disney, initially released their MCU movies schedule some months back, nothing about a movie in Oct 2022 was stated.

If you checked the initial calendar that was posted in the MCU thread, you will see it.

So, why after joker success, they decided to make it four and include a movie in October 2022?
To avoid unwanted box office casualties due to more movies being released qualifies as a reason. Nov to Dec has a good number of films slated. We know that with Fox under Marvel, we're primed to get either DP3 or Blade. Can't see a better release date for these movies besides October. February will most likely be GOTG3, May is BP2, July will most likely be a new series. And a Deadpool threequel is long overdue.

It is also a fact that Marvel and DC fans on Nairaland can't discuss anything without dragging their rivals in the mud.
TV/MoviesRe: DC EXTENDED UNIVERSE (FILM) by AfricaGalactic(m): 10:39pm On Nov 17, 2019
TheKingIsHere:
Moving the fox movie to another month does not affect the calendar.

In fact, Disney has been dropping a lot of fox movies from theatrical release or even production.

They should do that and create space for the MCU movie in Nov
Lol. Ok bro.

Hurray! DC rules! Marvel is trash!

Savvy? grin
TV/MoviesRe: DC EXTENDED UNIVERSE (FILM) by AfricaGalactic(m): 10:35pm On Nov 17, 2019
TheKingIsHere:
If it was perfect, why did they rush to include an unnamed MCU film? It shows that it wasn't in their original perfect calendar
Are we saying the same thing? I said the current schedule
AfricaGalactic:
The current Disney calendar is perfect as it is IMO and well spaced out for B.O. performance. I don't see why they'd want to change it.
The Joker was a huge success. But the success can be celebrated without taking cheap shots at Marvel. Not everything has to be a dick-measuring contest with Marvel.
TV/MoviesRe: DC EXTENDED UNIVERSE (FILM) by AfricaGalactic(m): 10:17pm On Nov 17, 2019
TheKingIsHere:
They can move that fox movie to another date to give room for the mcu movie in November.

They did it to dark Phoenix twice, moving it from November 2018 to February 2019.

Then they moved it again from Feb to June 2019 to give room to Captain marvel that came out in early march
The current Disney calendar is perfect as it is IMO and well spaced out for B.O. performance. I don't see why they'd want to change it.
TV/MoviesRe: DC EXTENDED UNIVERSE (FILM) by AfricaGalactic(m): 10:00pm On Nov 17, 2019
TheKingIsHere:
Or they would have just gone for November since that month is free.
Free for who? Fox (under Disney) have a movie slated for Nov 11, 2022. Disney have an animated feature slated for Nov 23, 2022. Then there's Star f***ing Wars in December 2022. I believe Disney is smart enough not to blindly shoot off their own legs at the Box Office.
TV/MoviesRe: DC EXTENDED UNIVERSE (FILM) by AfricaGalactic(m): 9:22pm On Nov 17, 2019
TheKingIsHere:
They are releasing a movie in October 7th, the first week in October..same with what Joker did.

All other marvel R-rated movies were not released in October until Disney saw the success from Joker in October. If all the other months were occupied they would have gone for November. It is obvious they want to tap from the October halloween R-rated success which Joker showed that it is possible.
OR...

With the FOX films Disney have inherited, there will be ~5 films making their debut between that MCU film and December. Thus an adjustment to the Marvel calendar would be apt to avoid cannibalism at the box office.

Wow. Disney just booked themselves 5 billion dollars. LoL!

I remember the old days when we had 2 MCU films a year. It will be interesting to see how Feige and the rest of the Marvel gang juggle this workload.

TV/MoviesRe: DC EXTENDED UNIVERSE (FILM) by AfricaGalactic(m): 7:05pm On Nov 17, 2019
TheKingIsHere:
That leaves October and November, so why not go with November since they have released MCU films in November?
If Marvel's releasing a movie in Oct (that's if its a movie and not a Disney+ series), it's most likely going to be R-rated. The fact Deadpool and Blade amongst others are now under the MCU umbrella further burtresses this. All this still doesn't demonstrate Joker being a factor here. A task you seem to be evading.

Which new mutants
Funny. I'm sure you get the point though.
TV/MoviesRe: DC EXTENDED UNIVERSE (FILM) by AfricaGalactic(m): 6:49pm On Nov 17, 2019
TheKingIsHere:
What stops them from releasing it in November then? They usually release their movies in nov, why October now if not for Joker and its success during the Halloween in Oct
If am allowed to speculate;

Feb 2022: This is most likely GOTG 3

May 2022: BP2 has already been affixed to this date

July 2022: Great slot for a new series in the franchise. This is the summer period. Lot of kid-friendly movies released during this time

That leaves October. Marvel have DP3, Blade and a lot of others to choose from. Besides, a third Deadpool is long overdue by the way.

Again you're free to believe what you want.
TV/MoviesRe: DC EXTENDED UNIVERSE (FILM) by AfricaGalactic(m): 6:30pm On Nov 17, 2019
TheKingIsHere:
Deadpool 1&2 were R rated but they were never released in October.
February, May & July (2022) have all been taken. An October release date could be a Blade remake or Deadpool 3. Hell, it could even be New Mutants. We don't know yet. I still haven't seen anything to link Joker to this decision but, oh well. You can believe what you want to believe.
TV/MoviesRe: DC EXTENDED UNIVERSE (FILM) by AfricaGalactic(m): 6:17pm On Nov 17, 2019
TheKingIsHere:
Marvel has never slated any MCU film in October for the 10-11years that the MCU was formed.

After Joker success, they announced a date in October 2022 for an unnamed MCU film.

If you can't see the relationship, then it aint my fault.
R-rated movies have a history of being released in October most of the time. With the acquisition of the Fox X-Men properties, this will be a perfect slot for Deadpool 3 as the trilogy has to be concluded obviously. Note that even this is tentative. If you choose to believe that Joker is the reason, then all i can say is "Lol. OK. Sure, mate".

Kevin feige announced that they will be having upcoming marvel films in Oct 2022. Something they have never done before in the MCU.

Why don't you go and do some research and keep me out of your misery.
Nice scan. Still can't see the relationship with the Joker though.

Raalsalghul:
Successful in terms of execution or money made?
Execution wise it was meh. Watchable. But meh. A little below MOS but not as terrible as BVS.

Commercially, it wasn't a flop. Infact the wiki page for the movie claims it be successful.

Raalsalghul:
Even when the Hulk film flopped in 2008,...
Despite making less than Hulk (2003) (i think), The Incredible Hulk (2008) was actually considered as successful by the industry. You can check the wiki page for TIH.

I get the point you're trying to make though.

You saw in my statement in the post that disney put a marvel movie in October 2022, something that they have never done before. If that's not enough that Joker struck a nerve in disney, then keep waiting for link, mtttccchhhwwww
Nobody knows the reason for Marvel's decision. At best your assertion is just guesswork. You guys should learn to celebrate your W without pulling Marvel into the picture.

You have no link. You have no evidence. Just inferences and inductions.

So basically just another cheap attempt at trying to knock Disney/Marvel.

Oh well...

what's really surprising is how joker made 1billion, without China, even in Nigeria there is no buzz abt it like there usually is abt MCU movies, joker is not a kinda of movie most ppl will like to watch multiple times, I guess the movie was just destined to succeed.. cus i still don't see anythy special abt the movie, mayb it's just me though
Lol. That's true though. There's a really weird vibe around the film and sometimes it feels overrated as hell. Contrary to what most DC fans love to believe, it's not the best 2019 CBM and far from the best CBM of all time in my opinion. Then again, all CBMs that were released between 2017 and 2019 with the exception of Dark Phoenix and Justice League have been thoroughly enjoyable for me. The box office numbers do not surprise me mostly because the Joker is a cultural icon with a massive albeit toxic fanbase that is only surpassed by the Big Three: Superman, Spider-Man & Batman.

There are speculations that Marvel will have two big bads instead of one and they are Dr. Doom and Galactus.
I've seen this too but I
heard it's going to be one street level bad guy and one S-tier bad guy. What's your source that Doom and Galactus are the villains?

It's so amazing how Joker's success shut some people up both here and on their thread.
Ehh. The MCU thread is silent mostly because there isn't much interesting stuff going on between now and 2021. As for the Joker, its success is well deserved.
TV/MoviesRe: DC EXTENDED UNIVERSE (FILM) by AfricaGalactic(m): 4:41pm On Nov 16, 2019
TheKingIsHere:
Joker really struck a nerve in Disney as they announced that they will be releasing 4 MCU per year, in addition they will be releasing several MCU shows that will connect to the movies.

Doing this, is an indirect way to oversaturate the CBM market, leading to comic book fatigue.

Also, they have put an unnamed MCU movie in October 2022. First time Disney's marvel will put a movie in October.
Your assertion @bold is a very wild one. Care to back it up with evidence?

I mean, no disrespect to Fuhrmann, but Abby just played off Rudd in a way that was so great. Hope that if Ant Man 3 is slated for release in 2022, they at least consider getting her back, since she'd be the proper age at the point.
I thought Emma was excellent in her small Endgame appearance. I don't see why they'd bring Abby back, as great as she was. It's not like Marvel is against recasting but I feel like it would be weird for continuity reasons and they probably could've hired someone who looks more like Abby than Emma did, maybe do CGI, just not include Cassie, or have her snapped.

Emma mentioned in an interview that the Russos, Feige, and Reed all approved her in the casting process, so I trust they made the right decision. I think Abby was fantastic as Cassie too but I don't see them bringing her back. They want an older actress and they found one and it just makes sense to keep her.
