Bros, it's 6.30am here in Lagos, if drive on Carter bridge towards Idumota at this very moment u will see buses and keke driving against traffic as u are approaching Idumota. It's something that is crazy enough for one to think about, but then u see it happening everyday.

There's a police Amored personnel Carrier Parked at ẹyin ẹyọ and a police van which is parked somewhere around descending the Carter bridge, yet these don't even deter them from endangering the lives of others on a daily basis. These things happen on a daily basis in Lagos. How do u think Fashola personally arrested drivers driving against traffic, Ambode did same and there are pictures of Sanwoolu on the Internet arresting one-way offenders in this same Lagos at varying times? Lagosians just want to live a lawless life and get away with it.

That guy on front page whose vehicle was auctioned for 400k legit passed one-way and he acknowledged it in the news. ( I love his honesty). Go and ask people living in that axis the number of people that have been killed on that road as a result of vehicles passing one-way on that busy route.

Everyday on my way to work I see keke, danfo and LT commercial buses driving one-way on Carter bridge from Idumota towards Iddo ( Lagos Island to Mainland).... You obviously don't know how terrifying it can be driving as early as 6.30am and u see crazy motorists driving towards u on high speed on a bridge simply because they are too lazy/crazy enough to go make a u-turn at ẹyin ẹyọ and drive in their own side of the road that is devoid of traffic.

We are talking about people endangering lives of others here, not jumping red light at traffic junction or some other minor traffic offence.

Maybe if we first look at the gravity of the offence, we will appreciate the government's effort go deter others from being that reckless.

One way driving endangers everyone.

Last week my nephew died in an accident. They were picking him from school outside lagos. He driver and his dad's pa. The driver drove one way and ran into a trailer. Driver escaped. Nephew and pa died.

Two things are involved :

1. The driver will most likely have his employment terminated by his employers.

2. If the company is aware of the auction they will send their procurement guys to do everything possible to win the bid and buy back the car for the company.

However, if the organization is not a nice one they will send the driver to multiple prisons after he must have served LASG's jail term ; his guarantor too will most likely not be spared by the company.

Personally I believe the government made a show of out of the anguish of offenders losing their vehicles just to deter prospective one-way traffic offenders.

Imagine a vehicle driving against traffic on somewhere like third mainland bridge. One motorist is endangering the lives of hundreds of road users. I believe the punishment matches the gravity of the offence.

Unfortunately confiscation vehicles of offenders who drive against traffic is legal in Lagos State. Driving against traffic attarcats imprisonment and forfeiture of the vehicle to the government while other less serious traffic offences attract lesser punishment.
