Even in the southeast, as is the case everywhere, not everyone is getting palliatives, but rather it is the most disadvantaged in the society, like the elderly, widows, and the very poor. Nowhere in Nigeria has the capacity to dole out palliatives to every resident in the state, that is why they are focusing on the disadvantaged. No need sensationalizing the situation just because you aren't yet a beneficiary. |

I just hope most Yorubas are wise enough to stay away from these sort of threads started by Igbos who must compare d1cks over everything including a disease pandemic.
Show them where Yorubas are donating and they will soon move to say the noodles donated in Ala Igbo is superior.
My challenge to Igbos is that, after this pandemic, they should all move to SE states and stay there since it is full of the best and kindest philanthropists and leaders in Nigeria. No need coming to spite others online over what we are missing. Simply go and enjoy what is on offer to you in the SE and stay away from the SW. What I don't understand is why everything has to be a 'us vs. them' or 'we are better than them' with some childish set on this forum. Right from the beginning of this outbreak, private Nigerian individuals and businesses have been making donations of all kinds to support efforts in the fight against COVID-19 in every state/corner of the country, nowhere is left out. But some people just have to exploit the publicity of a handful of such efforts as an opportunity to denigrate others while feeling superior. It is really very unfortunate. |

•Wearing of face masks now compulsory in all states in the zone
•Oyo to produce 1m face masks as confirmed cases hit 16 …shifts workers’ resumption to April 27
•51 new cases recorded in Nigeria; total now 493
Bisi OLADELE, Ibadan/Osagie OTABOR, Akure
THE governors of the South West states agreed on Friday to shut all entry points to the region as part of the strategy to stop the spread of COVID-19 in the zone.
This was as the nation recorded 51 new cases yesterday to bring the total confirmed cases to 493.
Wearing of face mask is also now compulsory for all residents of the six states in the zone, namely Ekiti, Lagos, Ogun, Ondo, Osun and Oyo, according to Governor Oluwarotimi Akeredolu of Ondo State.
Oyo State, where the number of confirmed cases reached 15 last night, decided on its own to produce one million face masks in the war against the pandemic.
Akeredolu, Chairman of the South West Governors’ Forum, said in a statement in Akure that he and his colleagues took the decisions during a virtual meeting yesterday.
The entry points to the region will be “closed forthwith,” he said. The governor added: “The state governors agreed that people involved in essential services or dealing in medicine, water and consumable items, in particular traders and market men/women, should endeavour to wear nose masks while outside plying their trade to minimize the spread of the deadly virus.
“The governors further agreed that wearing of nose masks will be made compulsory for everybody coming out of their homes effective from Friday, 24 April, 2020 in their respective states.”
Besides, the governors agreed to dissolve the Board of Directors of ODUA Investment Limited with immediate effect.
The Group Managing Director is to take charge of the conglomerate affairs pending the constitution of a new board.
Oyo to produce 1m face masks, shifts civil servants resumption date to April 27
Also on Friday, the Oyo State Government announced plans to provide one million face masks for residents of the state.
It also shifted the resumption date of civil servants from April 20 to April 27.
Governor Seyi Makinde, who tweeted the plans last night, emphasised that wearing of masks would become mandatory at public gatherings in the state once they are provided.
The state government had earlier in the month scheduled resumption of civil servants for April 20.
To ensure their safety, it had decontaminated the state secretariat earlier this week but changed the resumption date on Friday obviously for greater safety of the workers and other residents of the state.
The workers were sent on two-week compulsory leave which would have ended tomorrow.
With two new cases of COVID-19 confirmed on Friday, the state now has a total of 15.
The Nigeria Centre for Disease Control (NCDC) last night confirmed 51 new cases in the country to bring the total to 493.
They are 32 in Lagos; six in Kano; five in Kwara; two in the FCT; two in Oyo; two in Katsina; one in Ogun and one in Ekiti.
Lagos and Ogun States along with the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) have been on lockdown for the third week running following the detection of the index case, an Italian consultant, on February 27 in Ogun State.
He had passed through Lagos on arrival in Nigeria.
President Muhammadu Buhari declared that the two states and the FCT should be locked down for an initial two weeks.
He extended the lockdown period by two weeks last Sunday.
Coronavirus has since spread to all the South West states.
As at last night, Lagos had 283cases; Osun 20; Oyo 15; Ogun 10; Ondo 3and Ekiti 3.
Overall, coronavirus has claimed 17 deaths in the country while 159 patients have been discharged. Mynd44 Lalasticlala |

FEARS have been raised that the coronavirus may be able to remain in the body and "reactivate" later after 51 recovered patients tested positive again.
The patients, from the city of Daegu, South Korea, had all spent time in quarantine while recovering from the virus, but were diagnosed again within days of being released.

South Korea has been among the most successful countries globally in controlling the outbreak, using strict quarantining and widespread testing to slow its spread of the virus.
The number of new cases being diagnosed each day in the country is now at levels last seen as the pandemic was getting underway in February.
The 51 cases were identified as part of a study conducted in Daegu, the epicentre of the outbreak in South Korea, by a team of epidemiologists from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.
The center said it did not believe the patients had been reinfected, but that the virus had remained at undetectable levels in their cells and later "reactivated".
The claim runs contrary to the bulk of current evidence about how the virus works.
Speaking to MailOnline, Paul Hunter, an infectious diseases professor at the University of East Anglia, said: "I agree that these will not be reinfections but I do not think these will be reactivations.
"Personally I think the most likely explanation is that the clearance samples were false negative."
Coronavirus patients are typically required to test negative twice before being allowed to leave quarantine.
Where this happens and they are later found to be infected, it is thought to be much more likely that the negative tests gave the wrong result.
The tests currently available produce an incorrect results roughly one in five times.
It is currently thought that coronavirus patients will remain immune from the disease in at least the medium-term once they have recovered.
Scientists have said previous reports of people becoming reinfected are concerning, but that much more evidence needs to be collected before conclusions can be drawn.
Speaking in February, Mark Harris, Professor of Virology at the University of Leeds, said: Clearly we need more information about these patients, such as were there underlying medical conditions or a change in circumstances that might have allowed the virus to escape immune control?
"This highlights the need for more research into the biology of the new coronavirus. It is very much early days in our efforts to understand it.”
The coronavirus has infected more than 1.3 million people globally and killed at least 73,608 since first breaking out in December. |

https://www.dailytrust.com.ng/nigerians-in-uk-to-undergo-covid-19-test-before-evacuation.htmlBy Latifat Opoola | Published Date Apr 7, 2020
Nigerians living in the United Kingdom, UK must undergo a £350–that’s nearly N166,000–testing for coronavirus before they can be evacuated, the Nigerians in Diaspora Commission says.
Nigerians affected have expressed displeasure at the latest requirement, saying it was not part of conditions initially given to them. It comes amidst concerns that many Nigerians in the UK may not meet testing conditions of the UK’s National Health Service and it would be difficult for them to be tested through the NHS.
The commission suggests using a private coronavirus laboratory test, said to cost £350.
“We understand that it may be difficult through the NHS as some may not meet the NHS conditions.
However, Nigerians in the UK interested in having a private COVID-19 laboratory test within the United Kingdom can use Private laboratory, one of which is COVID19@mobihealthinternational.com or contact Dr Funmi Adewara on +447753656688,” the commission said in a memo.
“This is a Public Health England-approved COVID-19 testing kit. Laboratory results are said to be within 3-5 working days. The test is for patients 16 years and older. So, you are free to make your options and decisions, as we look forward to bringing you back home. You will not be allowed to board without having done the COVID – 19 Test,” it stated.
When contacted Adewara, named in the memo, confirmed the kit costs £350, that is N155,750, using CBN exchange rate of £1 to N445. NiDCOM says the airlines will need between 100 and 150 people to evacuate at a reasonable fee. The commission has begun receiving applications for evacuation but will not begin testing until the applications reach 100. It says the cost of testing, paid by prospective evacuees, would be refunded if it is not able to get 100 applications.
Spokesperson of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Ferdinand Nwonye confirmed that the mission in London has confirmed that those who are willing to be evacuated would be tested but what is however not confirmed is if those who are covid-19 positive would be put on the same aircraft with those who are negative.
Some 100 people so far have indicated interest in leaving the UK, and another 45 in the US, according to the commission. Last week, the foreign affairs ministry instructed its missions to compile lists of Nigerians abroad who may want to return in the wake of Covid-19 outbreak. It said they would go into 14-day mandatory isolation upon return to Nigeria. Lalasticlala Mynd44 |
