Eiya. She should hang in there as this phase too shall pass. Suicide is not the amswer. Everybody has their low moments, and until you hear other people's own struggles it is easy to assume that some are living the life you want for yourself. But no condition is permanent, if you can hang in there for long enough. She shouldn't give up just yet. It is well with her.

@Thoniameek: I forgot to add that it was really a great experience catching the thief. His family started begging. They had to cough out over 500k (which is only a fraction of the amount he collected, plus the police still got a cut) before we even gave them an audience. But unfortunately for him, the police refused to drop the case because he had scammed too many people and broken so many laws. He's still in prison as I type this. That is why it is hard to feel sorry for scammers, as they have caused so much pain in the lives of their victims.

Like there's no need for the police to carry-out their primary assignment unless there's something in it for them... It's just pathetic.
That was our biggest challenge as well. You have to pay them (the police) even to recharge their phones. But we had little choice because my madam was in a fix. Her integrity was on the line so we just had to get that bastard by any means.

Thoniameek:
I have been on here since 2012 and it has been a wonderful experience most often than not.

I have met people here and met with people here.

I'm at the age where am hungrily searching for opportunities and keeping an eye open for any opportunity. I have always had interest in transportation business and there was a time I opened a thread looking for investors. They either got interested in me or just didn't think I could handle the stress that comes with the business being that I'm a woman.

Months went by and I saw a thread by Earthbound advertising for the purchase of Tricycles (keke maruwa) on hire purchase. And without thinking twice I contacted him. I was into this monthly contribution and wouldn't be getting my money back until in a month's time.

Surprisingly, that same day, in less than two hours apart after contacting Earthbound (the moniker that advertise the tricycle), a man contacted me in regards to my investor thread and wanted to know about the business.

I pitched my business idea and also sent the business plan to him and in less than two weeks he sent me 600k. Also note that I was telling Earthbound everything about how I was getting the money.

I sent Earthbound 440k out of the money. He said I'll be needing 2 guarantors that are resident in Lagos. It was in the process of getting my guarantors that I found out that his boss was no longer reachable (I had already introduce other people who were interested in the business to Earthbound). I wasn't the only one involved now.

The police came and locked up the place and seized the three vehicles that were there. The matter is in Area F police station Ikeja and they're just sitting on it. From what we've gathered the police is aware of these set of people, that they go around scamming people. The police have phone numbers, bank accounts, names and photos linked to this case yet, absolutely nothing is being done about it.

The last time we were there the police requested for money to pursue the case. We told them we didn't have money but we would pay from the money recovered once it was recovered. Obviously that didn't go well with them and nothing is still being done about the case. One of the guys involved said he would talk to his police friend to help transfer the case to his own division so he can handle it.

Earthbound is out of reach, not here on Nairaland or WhatsApp not anywhere.

We just enjoy making this country hard for ourselves. The police are worst than the civilians even. Everyone just has eyes out to steal from the other which makes it difficult to be honest. And it's even harder for those trying to make money legitimately, if your fellow man isn't frustrating you, the law enforcement will make sure of that....
Smh. This is part of the reason why conducting business with Nigerians one meets online is such a big risk. We are our own problem in this country. Very Pathetic. So sorry about this madam. My wife fell victim to a scammer under similar circumstances but the idiot was eventually tracked down via unconventional means (though with the help of the police, after parting with huge sums). He is currently cooling off in prison as we speak. I hope you get that thief.

PoliticsGwarinpa: Abuja Ghetto Where Residents Exchange Waste For Food Items by afroniger(op): 11:43am On Jun 17, 2019
https://www.vanguardngr.com/2019/06/gwarinpa-abuja-ghetto-where-residents-exchange-waste-for-food-items/

By Luminous Jannamike

Beside the extravagant mansions, the beautiful road network, and the metropolitan look of Gwarinpa District in Abuja lies a local community of natives and other residents who live in abject poverty and face severe deprivation of basic amenities.

This slum section of the Gwarinpa District is smaller than the highbrow locations in terms of landmass but it is denser in population, its environment is more polluted, and the people in the ghetto live closely knit together and share similar outlook in life.

They agree that the level of environmental pollution in the neighborhood is alarming, and also know that the District, which hosts the largest housing estate in West Africa, possesses a very weak waste management system. An every day sight in some parts of Gwarinpa used to be individuals dumping wastes on bare ground or into make shift receptacles that fill up in less than 24 hrs.

The overflow litter the streets and create filthy environmental conditions. In spite of the odds against that frustrate their daily struggles, the residents of Gwarinpa slum have come up with an initiative to harness the fortune in their environmental misfortune and solve real life socioeconomic problems for themselves.

The initiative tagged ‘Waste to Chop’, was fashioned last year in a hairdressing by two women. They are Ms. Adiza Ujo, an environmental activist, and Ms. Margaret Baffoe, a Ghanaian hair stylist, who resides with her family of eight in a two-room slum apartment in Gwarinpa village.

The initiative is such that residents of the district can collect wastes in the environment and simply exchange them for food items, toiletries, snacks and drinks, clothes and soccer kits in a shop without cash. A recycling company comes around the ghetto, pays for the collected and wastes, the women restock the shop with household items the people are demanding.

Speaking on how they came about the waste-to-chop initiative, Ms Ujo told Saturday Vanguard: “I make my hair at Margaret’s shop. So, as friends, we discovered that so many people were going to bed hungry in Gwarinpa village because they cannot afford food ingredients that cost as low as N50. Some families drink water and they go to sleep.

“We also realised that there is value in what people throw away that pollutes our environment. So, we started this initiative with funds that were given to us by a goodhearted organization. We set up a little shop where people can collect wastes in the community and bring them here to exchange for food and other basic necessities.”

A female resident, Mrs Amina a.k.a Mama Khalid, told Saturday Vanguard that in the beginning, some members of the community considered the move ‘crazy’ despite its apparent simplicity and practicality.

“When we started in 2018, it was a very small enterprise and some people were calling our children who go about collecting wastes to exchange for food all sort of bad names. “But, we told them that we will persevere and continue to do so even when it becomes very successful. Today, almost everyone in our community has keyed into the initiative,” she said.

One of the leading waste collectors, Segun Joseph, 14 yrs-old teenager, told our correspondent that he has exchanged wastes for packs of spaghetti, noodles, yoghurt and cocoa pops in the last two weeks.

According to him, he usually redeems the food items after collecting a certain number of plastics cans as well as gathering a certain mass of waste nylon bags. Deputy German Ambassador to Nigeria, Ms Regina Hess, who herself is a visiting waste collector in the community but gives her redeemable items to charity, speaking in a chat with Saturday Vanguard, advised residents of other communities across the country to adopt a similar strategy.

Another top diplomat who has keyed into the initiative, Mr. Pham Anh Than, the Vietnamese Ambassador to Nigeria, said he supports the Waste-to-Chop team, because of the subconscious influence their activities exert on children who, he said, are imbibing the habits of sanitation and enterprise through their participation in the waste collection process.

“Children are the future of every nation. The Waste-to-Chop idea, as simple as it is appears, teaches the child how to keep the environment clean. It also shapes their habits now that they are still very young to identify and remove plastic wastes from streets, water channels, and drainages when they see them,” he told our correspondent.

While Mrs Margaret Baffoe and her Ghanaian husband, KingsFord, operators of the shop, were shy and self-effacing when Saturday Vanguard visited them in Gwarinpa, Ms Adiza Ujo, spoke excitedly about the work they do; highlighting the benefits the initiative has brought the ghetto people.

“If you knew this environment before now, you would agree that it was really polluted but the kids have been hard at work in sanitising the environment, removing all the recyclables, and educating their neighbours.

“This initiative solves a number of social problems. It addresses the issue of poverty and hunger. It is also creates jobs. We are moving into other communities where people just lazy about without any work. Individuals can start up similar Waste-to-Chop shops to be able to feed themselves and their children.

“Plastic pollution is a problem and Nigeria is still in the midst of the ugly situation. Communities can contribute to solving that problem through this initiative. We’re empowering women and families as well,” she said. Ms. Ujo, who runs an NGO (Stewards of the Environment for Sustainable Change Initiative), added that since the initiative went full blast two weeks ago, the team have removed over 200 Kg of plastic wastes.

“By the time the recycling companies come to buy the wastes come to in a day or two, we would have succeeded in clearing over two tonnes of plastics and nylon bags in 16 days,” she added. On government’s in the activities of the Waste-to-Chop team; The Abuja Environmental Protection Board (AEPB)’s Supervisor Head of Monitoring and Enforcement, Mr. Kaka Bello, said that the environmental protection board is aware of the activities of the team and also working to provide regulation and technical assistance for the protection of Abuja’s biodiversity.

“The Board is ever ready to assist such environmental groups. Anytime they seek AEPB’s assistance through the Chief Executive Officer, such technical support is delivered free of charge to them,” he told our correspondent.

If you are one of those with American supremacist tendencies that feels nothing will survive without the U.S stamp of approval on it, then I can't even converse with you because there's no point. For me, this isn't about America vs. China. If a product is functional and serves my needs I will buy it/key into it, whether it's from America or not. As an aside, I lived most of my formative years and early adult life in the U.S (12-solid years) so I have nothing against America per se. But it seems some of you guys have taken this Huawei issue personal and internalized it as if its your battle. I'm sorry but that makes no sense to me. undecided I think I've already made my point.

martineverest:
all these are shenanigans.... Huawei mobile is dead outside china
Well, that is your opinion and I respect it but I disagree. The average phone user doesn't use an iPhone yet iOS is still thriving in spite of its niche status -- it controls only 23% share of the mobile OS market yet even you wouldn't consider that 'dead'. I reckon that HongMeng can grab as much market share as Apple's iOS current share within a few years even if it's just Chinese and Asians alone that adopt it for starters. Even Windows phone still has market share. Outside China, WeChat is popular even while people still use Whatsapp (in SouthEast Asia and even S.A and other parts of the world, WeChat is popular and still being used). That right there is a remarkable feat. I guess you've taken this whole episode very personal hence your consistent pessimism about Huawei's chances. For me personally as a tech enthusiast and hobbyist software developer, I welcome variety of choices for consumers. There's no law that states that American softwares alone should perpetually dominate the tech space. My two cents. undecided
PhonesRe: Huawei’s New Hongmeng OS Reportedly 60 Percent Faster Than Android by afroniger: 8:18pm On Jun 16, 2019
Necessity is the mother of invention. Huawei is using this crisis it's experiencing to innovate. This will only further enrich the tech/mobile OS ecosystem and give consumers more choices. If Apple could survive with it's iOS (even as a niche product) then I see no reason why Huawei's OS too can't, with time.

PoliticsFace-off: Bode George Should Shut Up, Leave PDP – Jimi Agbaje by afroniger(op): 7:30pm On Jun 16, 2019
https://www.vanguardngr.com/2019/06/face-off-bode-george-should-shut-up-leave-pdp-jimi-agbaje/

JUNE 16, 2019 7:13 PM

By Dapo Akinrefon

THINGS seem to be falling apart in the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, in Lagos State. Perhaps, this can be attributed to the party’s dismal performance in the last general elections. The party seems not to have gotten over it and it has led to the blame game among leaders of the party.

The latest crisis rocking the Lagos PDP is between its candidate in the governorship election, Mr. Jimi Agbaje, and a former Deputy National Chairman of the party, Chief Olabode George. The two are at each other’s throat over defection insinuations.

Though, there have been insinuations making the round that Agbaje had perfected plans to dump the PDP, he has since refuted the claims. While Agbaje accused George of insinuating his defection from the PDP, George described the former as failed governorship candidate.

Posts that Agbaje had joined APC have featured prominently on social media platforms such as WhatsApp and Facebook in the past few days. One of the posts sighted recently both on WhatsApp and Facebook read: “Lagos PDP finally emptied as Jimi Agbaje defects to APC”.

Mr. Felix Oboagwina, media aide to Agbaje, had denied reports that his principal had dumped the opposition party. Agbaje, through the aide, also accused the leadership of the party in Lagos of alleged plans to “give the dog a bad name and chase it away from the party.”

Oboagwina said that social media posts that Agbaje had left the PDP to join the All Progressives Congress, APC, were untrue. He said: “There is nothing like that, nothing like that at all. He is still in PDP; he has not defected.

“How can people say he has defected on social media? He is too big for that; he is in PDP.”

When asked if there were plans by his principal to dump the PDP for APC, he answered in the negative. While lampooning the a former Deputy National Chairman of the PDP for insinuating that he has defected to the APC, Agbaje said: “People should please tell Bode George to shut up and leave PDP if he lacks any value to add to the party, instead of being a dog in the manger hampering the progress of the party in Lagos State.

“He should tell the world where he got the news being spreading round.

“These party leaders have 2023 in mind. The game-plan is simple: Give the dog a bad name and chase it away from the party. By 2023, this mudslinging will have scared off credible people from the party, which will leave the whole field to them to continue to operate.

“I am too big to sneak out of one party into another one. And the reality remains that I have not left PDP for any other party, least of all APC.”

Describing Agbaje’s outburst as shameful, Prince Uthman Shodipe, Special Adviser to George, said the PDP candidate has “bitten the hand that fed him.” George boasted that he gave Agbaje his first break in politics and a platform to actualize his political ambition.

The statement reads: “We have read with disgust an absolute report of idiocy that emanated from one Mr. Jimi Agbaje, who was a failed gubernatorial candidate of the PDP in last general elections in Lagos State, against the leader of the party in the state, Chief Olabode George.

“For the record, it is a public knowledge that Chief Bode George gave Agbaje his break in politics; he gave him the PDP platform without knowing him and also empowered him. It is sad and shameful that Agbaje has bitten the hand that fed him.

“Whether he has gone to APC or wherever, it is none of our business. We don’t know where he concocted this malady about Bode George saying that he has gone to APC.

“Bode George lifted him up in 2015 without knowing him; he secured the party’s ticket but his heart is not with the PDP.

“Bode George is a man of dignity and repute, he is a father of figure for the PDP not only in Lagos and South-West, but also across the nation.”

Agbaje’s imposition led to our defeat — Lagos PDP

Lagos PDP also mediated in the matter, but castigated Agbaje over his comments. The state Chairman of the party, Dr. Dominic Adegbola, threw up a new perspective on how the party lost the 2019 governorship election in Lagos. He also expressed shock over the Agbaje’s “abusive statement” on George.

Dominic said that Agbaje was never a party candidate for the election. According to him, Agbaje was not prepared to win the election. The party chair was also quick to note that their candidate was imposed on them. He accused a serving governor from the South-South and a former governor from the South-West of imposing Agbaje on the party.

Dominic said Agbaje sidelined the party structure. He said: “During the governorship primary, many of the party leaders didn’t want Jimi Agbaje because he only appeared at the party every four years, but with the interference from outside the state, he eventually emerged as the party candidate.”

“But I can sense it from Agbaje’s attitude before, during and after election that he was not prepared to win and the people of Lagos had deserted him.

“He is an unwillingly candidate, uninterested in winning, he did not carry any leader along and did not campaign, he only held town hall meetings which were not well attended. Even when we drew up campaign programmes, he refused to run with it.”

The party chairman also berated Agbaje’s outburst against George, saying, “I am shocked to read such statement from Agbaje but not very surprised because we are not expecting much from him.”
