FG’ll reintroduce tollgates on federal roads –FERMA

Chairman of the Federal Road Maintenance Agency, Ezekiel Adeniji, has said the Federal Government will soon reintroduce tollgates to federal roads across the country.

Adeniji, who spoke in an interview with online journal, Economic Confidential, on Saturday in Abuja, said it would generate revenue for government and jobs for Nigerians.

He did not, however, give a specific date for the reintroduction of tollgates.

Adeniji said, “Tolling is universal for revenue generation and job creation. In developed countries, there is no place you go to that you don’t pay toll for the roads you use.

“If you are paying for water, electricity and communication, why can’t you pay for good roads? We will have more revenue to maintain the roads.

“Because when you toll, you get more revenue, you create more jobs and you have funds to maintain the roads.

But why is Lagos road the only one with toll gates and collecting money from motorists in all the pictures?

To start with, it's either you are blind or full of something else because many roads in the pics I posted are not toll roads.

Many villagers have been begging for the same bridge for 30 years and toll or no toll, they still don't have any bridge.

The most sophisticated bridge in Nigeria and the best infrastructure in this thread is the same picture you quoted so We not only like our toll roads, we welcome and appreciate them.

[s]My money was used anyhow but at least I was told first before they used it anyhow. Your money was used anyhow but they didn't tell you first, they just used it anyhow.

Very funny how Nigerians have become a sad complexion of their chosen leaders. In all cases, money that would have been used to build hospitals or roads or classrooms have been spent frivolously and we suffer the consequenses, yet we say the man across the river did the same thing but he did it without telling his people while our own told is first. This is sad and pathetic.

Now let me break down to you what the amount spent on 200 cars would have done for Lagos.

Been that it's been given to Obas, the cars must be above average. So I would assume a price of at least 5-8 million Naira given by the amount a Camry sells for in this country. That leaves of with btw 600 million and 960 million on cars for traditional rulers who play no constitutional role in the state.

That amount of money would

1) Buy 5000 solar street lights at $1000 each. It would have lighted permanently at least 250 streets in Lagos

2)It would have bought 30-40 BRT buses at N20m each

3) It would have started an rapid response ambulance system for lagos state with 50 ambulances and a complete command and control centre.

4) It would have built a world class mental institution to rid the streets of Lagos state of the unsightly mad people we see regularly.

5)It would have built a world class IT hub that would give the many young programming brainiards a base to launch their start-ups making lagos a potential silicon valley which could churn billions of dollars for the city in the future.

6) It could have built a trailer park for the teeming number of trailers on Apapa Oshodi expressway thereby allowing free flow of traffic.

7) It could have placed traffic lights in all major streets in Lagos.

cool Would have started a functional fire station with at least 10 trucks.

9)Would have done some much. But no he would rather give traditional rulers!!![/s]

Save your rubbish for your isi ewu village governors...

Have you gone throught Anambra 2013 budget to conclude on this? Are you aware that this purchase has just been approved but the actual procurement and delivery may be sometime next year and or few months to the election? Do you also know that the Peter Obi you hate so much does not go the press when he budget to buy cars for traditional rulers but only involve the Press during presentation unlike Fashola that gets the Press involved at approval of the purchase, procurement and delivery as well as presentation? This news item is not really necessary since the 2014 budget has been presented and it is be there, if not to politicize the purchase. But you see nothing wrong with that but are accusing Peter Obi of playing politics because he delivered vehicles to traditional rulers before camera.

Cry me a damn river.

Amaechi, is from the same geo-political zone as President Jonathan. He is also a devout Catholic like David Mark. Like Fashola, he’s regarded as one of the best achievers in Nigeria today. His supporters believe he deserves the ticket because of his principled and courageous stance against Jonathan. “Without Amaechi, the opposition won’t be as formidable as it has become today. And if we want to take the number one position from the South South, it is only fair that we compensate the region with number two”, said an APC stalwart.

callmenow: We either claim to be democrats and subscribe to the rule of law or agree to the military marshall law which was useful to Nigeria in the eighties and nineties. The law by the way is a combination of the constitution and amended constitution by NASS and precedents handed down by the Judiciary. Jonathan cannot fire the police personnel and judges at will. The constitution clearly stipulates the order for firing and hiring of public personnel. The appellation, chief law enforcement officer is derived from him being the head of state. That does not mean that he can do anything without cause, just because he is the chief law enforcement officer. That is why he sets up administrative bodies to investigate and report back to him if there is probable cause. I am sorry if I sound sure of myself. I happen to practice LAW. I have not found one impeachable offence by this man. Nigeria does not deserve this achieving man. Except if you want abrogate the rule of law, I wish you a happy crossover to 2014 as well.

After failing to answer the simple question by sharing with us how GEJ fought corruption and instead dodging and boring me with redundant and meaningless essays, it's perfectly OK to conclude that you either lied or you yourself are too lazy and incompetent to articulate your thoughts regarding GEJ's fight against corruption.

Bottom line, GEJ is yet to do anything against corruption and he's in fact encouraging it with his actions and inactions...

callmenow: The fight against corruption is a multi-faceted one. He inherited EFCC, ICPC, Nigeria Police Force, and others. He has equipped and encouraged these outfits to work assiduously to eliminate corruption. However these anti-corruption agencies have been hampered by the Judiciary. The Nigerian Judiciary is probably the most corrupt in the civilised world. Even more corrupt than the next, which is Pakistan. Where you must buy your 'justice'. He has appointed a lady as the Chief Justice to clean up the Judiciary, yet she is right now fighting for her life. Remember that democracy is the rule of law. Yet the law is not WORKING. I understand that there is a new law to jail errant and corrupt judges and magistrates. The first time this kind of law will be enacted. The NASS is very corrupt. The speaker does not publish his expenditure of billions appropriated for the House. Senator Mark 'lords' it over the Senate. Is it Jonathan's job if the bastion of good governance is found wanting? He is forbidden from interfering from the Judiciary and NASS. Otherwise he will be impeached. The corrupt NPF was there before him, Abubakar is weeding out the corrupt ones. Abubakar is not from Bayelsa despite all the innuendos. The EFCC and ICPC chairman is not from the Bayelsa, SE, SS or even anywhere near these places. The chairman of the INEC is not fron Otuoke either. He has said and cried over the corruption in Nigeria. He is definitely working to eradicate corruption. However he is slowed down by NIGERIANS. I wish I can eliminate these Nigerians myself. You know what I mean anyway.

1. Jonathan is the commander in chief of the Nigerian armed forces he is also the chief law enforcement officer of the federal republic of Nigeria and via his executive powers, he appoints and fires all federal minsters, federal judges and heads of all the crime fighting agencies in Nigeria so his inability to stop corruption is a gross reflection of the caliber of folks he hires. He is still responsible and this condoling, is aiding and enabling corruption.

2. You can not fight corruption while at the same time pardon corrupt people and international fugitives. This condoling, is aiding and enabling corruption.

3. You can not fight corruption while at the same time hire corrupt people under EFCC investigation to fill top government positions. This condoling, is aiding and enabling corruption.

4. The scandal at the Lagos police college transpired because of corruption, negligence and incompetence, but instead of firing all the folks involved, he promoted them, he gave them National awards and top government positions. This condoling, is aiding and enabling corruption.

5. Stella Oduah engaged in serious acts of corruption, incompetence and perjury and she should have been fired even as recommended by the people of Nigeria via NASS, but GEJ didn't. This condoling, is aiding and enabling corruption.

6. GEJ is yet to make public his assets declaration and not doing so and by even telling Nigerians he doesn't give a damn shows a very mentally corrupt and insensitive man with zero leadership qualities and presidential decorum. This condoling, is aiding and enabling corruption.

7. You don't need judges or EFCC to catch oil theft folks, you need strong and capable law enforcement people, not enriching and ceding over our maritime safety and security to ex militants and terrorists. This condoling, is aiding and enabling corruption.

callmenow: The cancer of corruption is all around us. It has been all around us for some decades now. How did we become so corrupt. Surely you cannot put all the blame on this man. Corruption is in the polity because of inequality. It is also here because unfairness and lack of justice. Can we blame Jonathan? I beg to digress. Throughout the eighties, nineties and noughties, before the advent of Jonathan, Nigeria was regarded as the Number one in corruption. Please familiarise yourself with the work of Transparency International. Yet the likes of you has just woken up to pretend that Jonathan brought corruption to Nigeria. It is widely acknowledged that the best way to treat this cancer is to provide 'welfare', fairness and justice to the populace, such that our moral code can be improved. You other point about appointment. All the appointment went through the NASS. NASS are required to apply the federal character, and other required criteria before all these ministers and directors are qualified. Did Jonathan scour SS, SE or Otuoke only for the appointments? Are we stupid to believe this noonsense from you? Lastly, please name a truly democratic presidential who believes or believed in rule and the constitution of their nation. Yet this humble man has allowed the antics of Fani Nematode and others who have been pointedly inciting the citizen. He has been too democratic for my liking.

I din't ask you for any history lesson regarding corruption in Nigeria, Jonathan is the president of Nigerian today and at this very second and based on your claims about all his wonderful achievements, please share with us all his corruption fighting achievements.
