Education / Universities In Taiwan For A Masters Or Phd Program And Application Deadlines by AglowRaph(m): 3:51pm On Apr 26, 2022
NB: Any information obtained here is just for educational purposes. I do not officially represent any of the schools listed below and I do not offer scholarships or admissions. If you need more information regarding these institutions, please visit their website and contact or make your inquiries.

Having said that, here is what I have to say!

As a Nigerian, if you are looking for world-class universities and scholarships in all academic fields of Science, Arts, Engineering, Management, etc, then Taiwan may just have the perfect program for you. Also, if you are an outstanding student, you could also apply for the Taiwan Scholarship and Huayu Enrichment Scholarship Program which is amazing.

Taiwan Universities seems to have the easiest and most straightforward application process. Most times, there is no need to get acceptance letter by contacting any professor (though if you do, you won't suddenly disappear from the surface of the earth grin). An addendum is that you can also be doing a part-time job even as you study.

NB: If the links does not work efficiently, search the school via Google and visit their official websites.

Health / International Health Insurance Coverage - An Inquiry by AglowRaph(m): 9:31pm On Sep 01, 2021
Is there any known health insurance company in Nigeria that can offer Health Insurance coverage for 6 months in Taiwan?
Education / Re: Steps For Document Authentication In Ministry Of Education And Foreign Affairs by AglowRaph(m): 6:46pm On Jul 20, 2021
barx:
For those that want further their education abroad or those that have studied aborad and need to authenticate their certificates and other relevant documents, these are some steps to be followed:

FOR THOSE WHO WANT TO SCHOOL ABROAD:

1. You go to ministry of education Abuja (Federal Secretariat) 8th Floor that's where the office is (prepare to use the stairs cos the lift is not always up dew to power failure)

You need to take all your credentials there (WAEC/NECO very important), they will ask for the certificate before the others, they may ask you for a print out of the result u are using (NECO/WAEC), print and hold the scratch card cos usse will use the serial number there. The cards are like N300 each but there its sold at N600 each and printing is N150.

2. You will get a form to fill for the authentication process. The form is sold from N100 - N500 depending on who is selling the forms that day.

3. You will then go and make payments (each document you want to authenticate will cost N300 for now), they will calculate and tell you how much you will pay. they will direct you to a bank (Diamond).

4. Before you get to the bank, find a cyber cafe around (groung floor near Zenith Bank) tell them you to help you generate payment ID from Remita. That ID is what you will use to pay in to the government account at Diamond Bank.

5. Photocopy the teller and go ask of IPPIS or Revenue office (ground floor) there there they will collect the teller and sign o the photocopy.

6. Then you go back to 8th floor and submit then wait or they will tell you when to come back.
NOTE: Dont laminate your documents yet cos they will sign and seal it
Authentication of documents is Monday to Thursday, they dont attend to people on friday.
If You can sort somebody in that office to do it for you it will be faster and it will save you alot of stress.

AFTER U ARE THRU WITH MINISTRY OF EDUCATION, YOU PROCEED TO MINISTRY OF FOREIGN AFFAIRS (5-8 MINUTES WALK)

1. You get there and tell them you want to authenticate your document that you have done that of education already.

2. They will collect it and tell you when to come back. Each document will cost N1000. foreign affairs has no stress and its sharp.

FOR THOSE WHO SCHOOLED ABORAD

If you schooled aborad and you want to authenticate your document or you want to go for service, the process is same as that of ministry of education above cos its done in the same place just that i dont know how much it will cost.
I will advise that you do it early cos the last time i was there, there, the documents are still there with the staff in the ministry and NYSC Camp has commenced already. They will be telling you that there is so much work you wont see what they are doing.
In order or not to get to the camp when the camp is ending, start the process early.

So, I just finished authenticating my document with both Ministry of Education(MOE) and Ministry of Foreign Affairs(MOFA) yesterday being 19th July, 2021.

This guide was very helpful - I must say and I am grateful to the person that wrote it.

I just have some input to make in addition to his own guidelines. You can also view it as an update.

At first, I got to the MOE building and before going upstairs, you can visit https://ess.education.gov.ng/#/ and register to book an appointment with MOE. After your registration, you could sign in, upload your scanned documents that you would love to verify. Make payment online. If you have a MasterCard or cards that support online transaction, it is best. After that, print the remita and the appointment slip. That's why you have to do this either at home or before climbing up stairs.

Like the former writer wrote, the evaluation and authentication office is at the 8th floor. I used the elevator. So... before you go climbing the stairs, make sure you try the elevator first.
I guess the thought of public holiday did not make people visit the MOE that much but I could count upto 80-90 of us that were at the MOE. They usually sort between those for evaluation and those for authentication (more preference).

The documents for authentication is individualized. It all depends on you and what you are applying for. I had authenticated my WAEC, Degree Certificate, and Transcript. They do not authenticate HEALTH CERTIFICATE or POLICE SECURITY CLEARANCE CERTIFICATE at the MOE. They only authenticate educational related materials. So, do not make the mistake of uploading it online for MOE.

As for WAEC authentication, those whose WAEF results are less than 5 years are required to pay for a scratch card but if your WAEC results is above 5 years (and you have your original), you won't be required to purchase any scratch card.

I successfully authenticated everything with MOE that same day. The secret lies in going to the MOE on time and very early.

After authentication with MOE, I just walked to MOFA. I was directed to meet someone by someone at MOE. I called him and he collected by documents. Including HEALTH AND POLICE CHARACTER CERTIFICATES.

I waited for about 3-4 hours and I got my credentials.
The amount as stated by the writer is N1000 per document. In my case, I was charged N500 per page.

I wish this info will be helpful to someone just as the former writers post was to me.

Education / Scholarship Abroad - Should I Accept? by AglowRaph(m): 4:32pm On May 16, 2021
Hello everyone!

Please I created this post to seek for your advise and suggestions.

I got an email 3 days ago as regards a scholarship I had applied for in one of China's universities. I was admitted and offered the University President Scholarship worth N2 Million. This scholarship only takes care of my school fees.

I am left to handle the stipend and accommodation expenses. Even the flight ticket, visa application and all will have to be funded by me.

Another consideration is that the Masters study will last for 3 years (in English). If it was 2 years or less, I could have sourced for funding or help.

Jobs/Vacancies / Re: O' Level Lamination by AglowRaph(m): 4:16pm On May 16, 2021
Please just do a soft lamination. Soft lamination is temporal unlike permanent lamination.
I can't say for sure if it is prohibited or not but to be on the safer side, just do soft lamination if you cannot keep your certificates very careful.

I hope this helps.

Computers / Building A Desktop PC For Research Purpose by AglowRaph(m): 8:49am On Sep 22, 2020
Please who can build a PC for Computational chemistry/Molecular modelling/Molecular docking/MD simulations research?
I just want a computer that works well for my research & is somewhat affordable.

I'm a graduate student looking forward to having a built desktop PC that is good for computational chemistry / molecular modelling / bioinformatics research. I don't know much about PC building or what computer specs would be good, so I'd really appreciate some help in figuring out the best to obtain. This is my first time trying to get a built computer and I don't really know anything about it, though I've been reading about it for a while.
The PC will need to be powerful enough to run long computations such as ligand-protein docking simulations, molecular dynamics, free-energy calculations, etc without lagging.

I plan to install Linux on this PC or install a Windows 10/Linux dual-boot (whichever is a better idea, I'd appreciate advice on which to choose and what kind of Linux distribution to install for free). I need to be able to run software such as Schrödinger Maestro, GOLD - Protein Ligand Docking Software, PyMOL, AMBER16, UCSF Chimera, Visual Molecular Dynamics - VMD, Molecular Operating Environment - MOE and GROMACS.

I especially need for the PC to be able to display good graphics of complex structures and large trajectory files with many frames without lagging too much, since I've run into lagging problems with the VMD software on some computers. I think this means I'd need a lot of memory and storage space?

I also would like to be able to run basic things like Microsoft Word, Excel and for the PC to have a CD-ROM drive.

YOUR CONTRIBUTIONS WILL BE HIGHLY APPRECIATED!

Cristiano Ronaldo is just like Davido and Messi is like Wizkid!

The best can never critize or look for a means of critizing another fellow.

One funny thing about the best is that, they will not TALK or argue with you!

This man thinks we are his son ni. He is using his son's attitude and making a 100% judgement on all Nigerian youths.

Anyways, I blame the youths that kill themselves for old godforsaken politicians of this country.

Music/Radio / Falz – Moral Instruction Album Review by AglowRaph(m): 9:34pm On Jan 20, 2019
Falz Moral Instruction Album Review

Falz the Bahd Guy has kicked off 2019 with the release of his 4th studio album, titled ‘Moral Instruction’ and this is arguably his best body of work yet, as it is thematic and wholesome with respect to the messages disseminated through the album.

It’s been only two weeks into the year, and two very conscious rap projects have been released by Nigerian rappers, the other being the album by show dem camp titled ‘clone wars IV – These Buhari Times ‘ . We love this energy, and it would be great to see our musicians in general, not just rappers, continuously put out projects or singles that speak on relevant issues affecting us a society.

By just looking at the moral instruction album cover, you would most likely have a feeling of nostalgia, if you were exposed to Fela’s cover arts back in the day. The album art was designed by the art legend Lemi Ghariokwu, who was known for working on the late Fela anikulapo’s album arts for his projects back in the day. Are you ready for some moral instruction? Let’s walk you through the album, track by track.

1. Johnny – The opening track johnny, starts off with sampled vocals off Fela’s ‘Johhny just Drop’ singing “ J.J.D J.J.D Johnny just drop” which leads to a mean beat drop with bells, light kicks and snares. This would have your head bopping to the rhythm, while setting the perfect underlay for Falz’s vocals to come in.

Falz does not disappoint as he hops right in, setting a captivating story line in motion, with the opening lines “Johhny just drop, na person shoot am down”, which should drive any curious listener to keep listening. The track speaks out against the indiscriminate shooting of civilians by the police, while telling the story of a recent graduate who just finished his national youth service, but got killed by the police on a night of celebration. The last few bars of the track has falz agitated as he lashes out, citing other scenarios where johnny (at this point he uses johnny in a ‘Jon doe’ manner) might be killed, in other different locations around the country, due to negligence and other factors. He ends the track asking these pertinent questions in Yoruba “if johnny continue to drop, eyan melo lo ma ku? Eyan melo lo ma ku?” which is a little play on words in yoruba and translates to “if johnny’s continue to drop, how many people would die? How many people would be left?

2. Follow Follow – The next track titled follow follow actually uplifts the mood, as the atmosphere on the track is not as serious as it was on the opening track. This track starts off with a bugle solo which ushers in sampled Fela vocals, leading to a rather heavy beat drop that would have you immediately feeling the energy and anticipating Falz’s raps. The song is a basic critique of the band wagon mentality which plagues our present society, where people do not have minds of their own and have to break their backs just to feel among or hop on the latest trends. A fun Jam right there.

3. Hypocrite Ft. Demmie Vee – Hypocrite, the third track off the album, brings down the tempo once again from the rather energetic ‘follow follow’, and features talented singer Demmie Vee, who delivers a very dope chorus, singing “every body is a mother f***ing* hypocrite”, on the soft instrumental setting the atmosphere for the subject matter which Falz raps about.

This track tackles quite a wide range of issues, basically calling out people who mask under the guise of religion to perpetrate evil and unlawful acts, bad politicians for taking the people for a ride, the people for recycling the bad politicians and coming back to say they hate the government they help put in power, the people for discriminating against the homosexuals, amongst other issues. Demmie Vee also ends the track with a bridge that doubles up as the outro. This is one track we all have to reflect upon.

4. Talk – Talk, the fourth track off the album, was released as a single a couple of days before the album, was released as a single a couple of days before the album was released and it sparked up some conversations across social media. This track jacks up the tempo once again, giving an energetic dancehall vibe as falz hops in on the instrumental with a call and response type hook, reminiscent of the old nursery rhyme “old roger is dead and gone to his grave” .

On talk, Falz takes shots at MURIC with the lyrics “brother Muri talk finish we no see am for court” , following the outrage he received from the muslim organization about his portrayal of the hijab wearing girls, after the release of his video to ‘This is Nigeria’ . He also takes shots at the present government with lines like “ we buy your story but you no give us change’ and “4 year tenure, 3 year holiday.”

Furthermore, he addresses other issues pertaining to religion, fraud and prostitution. The lines “Instead make you work you dey find alhaji, you come turn your body to cash and carry” coupled with his comments when accused of ‘ slut shaming ‘ at his album listening session, got him criticism from some women across social media. Nevertheless, ‘talk’ is an all round dope jam!

5. Amen – Amen, starts off with Fela’s vocals once a again, singing “through Jesus Christ our lord, amen amen amen” as well as “waka waka waka” which is sampled across the track, with a recurring bass guitar sound, leading to an impressive drum roll and a perfectly programmed interaction between drum sounds, to create an impeccable instrumental.

Falz graces this instrumental with his rap style, as he talks about the extravagance of the pastors at the expense of the congregation. He also speaks about the gullibility of the people, who allow themselves to be scammed. He raps “church plenty pass school inside my estate/ you sell hopes, you sell faith, you sell dreams to get paid/ Na congregation money but dem no go see percentage”.

6. Brother’s Keeper Ft Sess – The tempo of the album gets slower on this track, with a soft but compelling offering, which starts off with background hums from sess as well as soft pads , which form soulful chords under the vocals. This is followed by a reverbed percussion instrument then soft kicks to set the instrumental in full motion.

This track basically talks about the selfishness and the lack of compassion in our society, as falz uses different perspectives from different works of life to explore the subject matter. The track ends with an amazing choir rendition of the hook earlier sung by Sess as the vocals fade out.

7. Paper Ft Chillz – The seventh track on the album, titled paper, which features chillz, is a slow but groovy jam where chillz delivers a smooth baritone chorus on an instrumental with strong elements of the original afrobeat sound. The smooth chorus and soothing trumpets complement each other and put the listener in the mood for a slow dance. Falz rides this like equestrian while talking about the extremes people would go to just to make a lot of money. The chorus where chillz sings “no go lose your center, all because of paper”, pretty much sums up what this track is about.

8. E no Finish – This song is also a strong afrobeat rendition by falz. He starts out agitated, rapping about the corruption and greed Nigerians face from people in positions of power. He raps “corruption and indiscipline, with no regard for the life of a citizen, so sickening…hope you greedy mother****ers listening” he continues rapping through the verse and as the instrumental builds up to the chorus. On the chorus, Falz sings “Baba Fela talk am but e no finish, when e go finish?” driving home the point that, so much that has been said about these problems years ago is still very relevant in our society today and this needs to end.

9. After All said and Done – Falz closes up the album with this short spoken word offering, where he says that he is not in the position to point fingers as no one is perfect, but he wants us to realize that we all have a part to play to foster any societal progress. He says “if we can rediscover the meaning of love and humanity, then we can return the sanity” a good conclusion to the album.

The moral instruction album is a short but awesome 9 track body of work, packed with consciousness and has a massive replay value. Also the production and creativity from Sess, TMXO and Willis was totally top notch and remarkable. We need more thought provoking and reformatory albums like this.

Thoughts?
