Roughly 50 bodies are being moved from Balle graveyard to a new mausoleum. As soon as the traditional coffins are dragged out of the tomb, the relatives put on surgical masks and attend to their loved ones.

It’s customary for the Torajans to put gifts in the coffin, such as a bracelet or a watch. Others might even bury a diamond with their loved ones. Grave robbery often occurs and some Torajans keep their gifts a secret. Grandpa Ne Pua passed away when he was 85 years old. He has been buried in his favourite suit together with his favourite belongings.

After the funeral rites of “Rambu Solo”, the deceased are finally buried in tombs. But still they are regularly visited, cleaned and given new clothes in a ritual known as Ma’nene (‘Care of Ancestors’). Datu died 35 years ago. In this picture relatives are removing the insects that covered her.

In contrast to Western norms, Torajans people, who live in the mountains of Sulawesi in Indonesia, treat their beloved relatives as if they are sick not dead. In this picture, a grandchild stands next to her deceased grandparents. Yohanis (right), was 77 years old and passed away two weeks ago; his wife Alfrida Tottong Tikupadang (left), was 65 years old and passed away five years ago. In Toraja, it is customary to feed the deceased every day and to keep the corpses cozily bedded in a separate room of the family house until the family can afford a proper funeral.

WARNING: this gallery contains graphic images of dead bodies For the Torajan people of Indonesia, death is part of a spiritual journey: families keep the mummified remains of their deceased relatives in their homes for years – and traditionally invite them to join for lunch on a daily basis – before they are eventually buried. Even then, they are regularly exhumed to be cleaned and cared for |

Virgil van Dijk has warned Harry Maguire he must learn to handle the pressure that comes with being the world’s most expensive defender. Maguire completed his £80m transfer from Leicester to Manchester United on Monday, eclipsing the £75m Liverpool paid Southampton for Van Dijk in 2018. Van Dijk, whose reign as the most costly defender of all time lasted 20 months, has told Maguire: “The price comes with pressure but it doesn’t change too much because you always have pressure at big clubs like Man United. “It’s not easy to completely shut off all the pressure. Quite a lot of things are more important than playing football. You need to enjoy it but the pressure will always be there. “Just focus on doing what you love to do and play your best game. Get your qualities out on the pitch, enjoy your game and don’t think about the other things. “If opponents have a go during the game because you cost that much, what can you do? I’m not listening to them. It does not change anything in my head.” ‘Solskjaer hasn’t followed the same path of his predecessors who tried and failed to replicate the dominance of Ferguson. He’s moved swiftly and decisively in his first summer transfer window to revamp his defence with the capture of Aaron Wan-Bissaka and now the world-record signing of Harry Maguire. ‘United conceded 54 goals in 2018/19, the most of any side in the top six and more than Crystal Palace and Newcastle. But with Wan-Bissaka catching the eye in pre-season and the services of Maguire now secured, the United faithful will be filled with optimism ahead of the new campaign.’ https://www.completesports.com/van-dijk-warns-maguire-of-world-record-pressure/

Which of the continent’s all-time greats never got their hands on Africa’s biggest prize? #6 Bruce Grobbelaar One of Africa’s most decorated players, Grobbelaar was a key figure in Liverpool ’s European Cup final success in 1984, and also won six league titles with the Reds. At international level, however, he made little impact despite being capped over 30 times by Rhodesia and then Zimbabwe. #5 Sammy Kuffour A Champions League winner with Bayern Munich , where Kuffour also bagged a swathe of Bundesliga titles, the centre-back never won the Nations Cup with Ghana. While he was part of the squad that represented the Black Stars at the 2006 World Cup, Kuffour’s career was winding down by the time the West Africans embarked on their consecutive run of Afcon semi-final appearances. #4 Michael Essien Had injuries not so undermined the latter stages of the Bison’s career, perhaps he could have helped the Black Stars over the line at the Nations Cup and transform one of their near misses to a title success. While he did represent Ghana at two World Cups—in 2006 and 2014—injuries cost him the chance to feature in their quarter-final run in 2010. #3 Nwankwo Kanu Despite a remarkable honours haul, including the Champions League, the Uefa Cup, the Premier League, and an Olympic gold, Kanu never won the Afcon. He represented the Super Eagles at three World Cups, but his failure to conquer the continent with Nigeria remains a black mark on his record! #2 George Weah The only African player to win the Ballon d’Or, but Weah’s honours haul—both at club and international level—didn’t match his supreme talent. The Liberia president helped the Lone Stars to reach the Nations Cup on two attempts, but it was always going to be beyond him to drag them to the continental title. #1 Didier Drogba The Chelsea legend won a hatful of honours at Stamford Bridge, and also reached three World Cups with the Ivory Coast , including their first qualification in 2006. However, despite being the Afcon’s top scorer in 2012, he never got his hands on the biggest prize, having retired before the Elephants’ triumphant success in Equatorial Guinea in 2015.

The Nigeria tactician’s contract has been terminated after the Taifa Stars’ abysmal performance in the continental tournament Tanzania Football Federation (TFF) has relieved Emmanuel Amuneke of his job following the poor performance of the Taifa Stars in the 2019 Africa Cup of Nations (Afcon) in Egypt. The East Africans were eliminated in the group stage of the biennial tournament, losing 2-0 to Senegal, 3-2 to Kenya and suffering a 3-0 defeat to Algeria to finish at the base of Group C with zero points. On the back of the poor performances, Tanzania's governing body decided to part ways with the former Nigeria international and Barcelona winger. “The Tanzania Football Association (TFF) and the national team coach, Emmanuel Amunike, have reached a joint agreement to terminate the contract between us,” read a statement on the TFF website . “TFF will announce the TAN coach who will lead the national team for Chan matches. “TAN coaches will be announced after the Emergency Committee meeting on July 11, 2019.” Amuneke helped Taifa Stars qualify for Afcon for the first time in 39 years. Cameroon head coach Clarence Seedorf believes the Super Eagles have what it takes to win the 2019 Africa Cup of Nations in Egypt, reports The Indomitable Lions’ hopes of winning a back to back title ended on Saturday after they were handed a 3-2 defeat by the Super Eagles. The former AC Milan star who expressed disappointment on his team’s early exit from the competition said the Super Eagles can go all the way in the competition. “We started the game slowly but grew into it. After we went ahead, we were satisfied with the scoreline instead of going for more goals. Nigeria have shown that they can score goals, and they did that against us,” Seedorf told reporters after the game. “Nigeria have a good team and they can win the competition. They have the players that can win it for them.” Seedorf expressed satisfaction with his team’s performance in the game even though he accepted his players made some costly mistakes. “We made some mistakes today and paid a high price for that. Offensively, we produced more, so in that sense I am satisfied,” he added. “I am sorry for my players for this loss. I hope that the fighting spirit that we have shown in this competition can be carried through into the future.” https://www.completesports.com/seedorf-backs-super-eagles-to-win-afcon-2019-title/

The Pharaohs last-16 exit at the Africa Cup of Nations on Saturday proved costly for the Mexican manager and his staff Egypt sacked head coach Javier Aguirre following their shock elimination in the round of 16 at the Africa Cup of Nations . Aguirre's Egypt were left stunned on Saturday as the AFCON hosts lost 1-0 to South Africa in Cairo, where the Pharaohs failed to reach the quarter-finals for the first time since 2004. Afterwards, Egyptian Football Association (EFA) president Hany Abou-Rida announced his resignation and confirmed the departure of the entire technical and administrative staff. Despite his resignation, Abou-Rida – who also called for members of the board to step down – said he will continue in his position as head of the organising committee of the 2019 AFCON. Egypt appointed Mexican boss Aguirre following their group-stage exit at the 2018 World Cup in Russia. Former Japan and Mexico coach Aguirre signed a four-year deal to replace Hector Cuper last year. "I am the one responsible [for Egypt's exit]," Aguirre said at the post-match news conference. "I'm responsible for all the selections and the end results, but I'm still proud of this group of players.” Aguirre, who has managed the likes of Mexico, Japan and Atletico Madrid in his long tenure as a coach, seemed resigned to his fate as well. "The next step will be decided after I meet with the Egyptian FA board tomorrow," he said following the match, though the decision was apparently taken to part ways prior to any meeting on Sunday. And the manager believes the game was decided by his side’s inability to put away their scoring chances against Bafana Bafana. "The game was open and witnessed scoring chances; the only difference was that South Africa scored a goal that helped them to qualify. "We also had our chances but couldn't convert them,” he concluded. Having won the competition three times of the four occasions they'd hosted the finals before this year's showpiece, defeat at the hands of South Africa means Egypt won't be making it four triumphs in five on home soil. The side carried heavy expectations coming into the event despite a poor showing at the World Cup in Russia, with Mohamed Salah fit and expected to take on a star role this summer. https://www.goal.com/en-ng/news/egypt-boss-aguirre-sacked-and-president-abou-rida-resigns/92prgko9mh171xfrhm03de1ae

Gernot Rohr's men will battle the reigning African champions in the Round of 16 of the 2019 Africa Cup of Nations on Saturday Former Nigeria international Mutiu Adepoju has warned the Super Eagles to expect a very tough contest against Cameroon at the Alexandria Stadium. Nigeria finished as Group B runners-up behind Madagascar and have been paired against Clarence Seedorf's men, who settled for the second place in Group F, after a goalless draw against Benin on Tuesday. Saturday's meeting between the West African countries in Alexandria will be for a place in the quarterfinals of Afcon. Adepoju, who was a member of the Super Eagles' team which lost to Cameroon at 2000 Afcon final in Lagos, urged Gernot Rohr's men to take Madagascar setback as motivation for the crucial fixture. "Nigeria should be prepare for a tough game. Cameroon will always be Cameroon even though the team has changed from what he faced back then," Adepoju told Goal . "Nevertheless, they are always a tough opposition and whenever they are playing against Nigeria, it is always tough and a war. "I believe our Nigerian team is capable. They should forget about what happened against Madagascar and face the next challenge. "Losing to Madagascar should be a kind of motivation for the match against Cameroon because Nigerians are counting on them. "They should up their game and change their attitude. They should give their best because I believe Cameroon will be more motivated in the next round." Nigeria won the continental title in 1980, 1994 and 2013, and they are in the hunt for their fourth triumph in Egypt. https://www.goal.com/en-ng/news/afcon-2019-nigeria-against-cameroon-is-always-a-war-mutiu/157knt0apodhq15n58n8orvo6u

While recognising that he has been far from his best in Brazil, the Barcelona star believes the grounds-keeping has also been sub-par Argentina captain Lionel Messi took aim at the state of the pitches at the 2019 C opa America after helping his team through to a semi-final clash with Brazil . Goals from Lautaro Martinez and Giovani Lo Celso saw the Albiceleste soar past Venezuela in a 2-0 victory on Friday in Rio de Janeiro's Maracana stadium . Messi, however, once more failed to reproduce his best form, with a penalty against Paraguay his only goal in four matches so far in the tournament. Leo recognises that he has been far from his strongest; although according to the Barcelona star the Copa's groundsmen are also at fault. "I am not having my best Copa America," he told reporters at the final whistle in Rio. "In truth, the pitches are shameful. It is hard to control the ball and carry it. "The ball looked like a rabbit, it goes all over the place with this pitch. All we can do is adapt. "The pitches are awful. That doesn't help keep possession, you need a second longer, it bounces poorly, you cannot lead. "But we played a complete game and we were able to win." Martinez, who with two goals is Argentina's top scorer to date in the Copa, added that the Albiceleste will start as underdogs against Brazil - but he is relishing the challenge. "We have our own players," he pointed out. "We know it will be difficult because they are the home side and they will be in front of their fans. "We are showing that we give our all in every game. Luckily things are going well." Argentina meet Brazil in Belo Horizonte's Estadio Mineirao on Tuesday, their first meeting in a major finals since the 2007 Copa America final. https://www.goal.com/en-ng/news/the-ball-was-like-a-rabbit-messi-slams-shameful-copa-america/aub1axrqu78h1fa9t2ciw9zp6
