I do not doubt that some schools ask incoming students to make a non-refundable tuition deposit. This is typically done to confirm enrollments and lock-in commitments from incoming students so that the programs can let waitlisted applicants know if they will be ultimately accepted or not. Certain programs, especially private or Ivy League programs (like Columbia) or programs that receive a high number of applications, require a tuition deposit for these purposes.

However, tying the release of information about GA opportunities or a GA offer (that may or may not be made to a prospective student) to any payment is not common, especially after the school has waived almost half of your tuition. Again, many people on this thread have been offered GAs at the same time admission was extended to them and few (if any) have stated that they had to pay anything before the GA offer was made.

Ultimately, it is the OP's choice. I just offered my opinion. As long as they ensure that the school is legit and that it is Tufts Uni and not Trufts Uni. I wish them all the best!

Oh! Thanks so much I made a mistake in my spelling ni.. the school is legit I confirmed using the Link you shared on your previous response. God bless you

Hey 🤠

@Aishat89.

** Truft University, though a private institution in the USA is still very well respected , and therefore should keep to their policies (40% grant off tuition payment for your sister).

*** And Yes, the $300 has to be paid first in order for the admissions office to take your sister serious and start the processing of her Form I-20. That's the norm.

1. Either they give your sister GTA or not , you must send your dad's financial capability evidence (bank statement) to Truft before they can issue her Form I 20.

2. Yes , she must go to her F1 visa interview with your dad's financial evidence (perhaps the original copy of the one she sent to Truft). Her tuition deficit will reflect in her Form I 20 and the CO (consular officer) will ask her how she want to offset it upon resumption.

3. Don't rush. Focus on securing her Form I 20 and the payment of SEVIS fee as well as the MRV (Visa fee payment @ GTB) first. Once those ones are settled , I bet she will secure a date for her interview prior to her August resumption. But you have to make everything snappy !

4. The requirements for her to get a normal or emergency F1 visa appointment date is to ; Secure Form I 20, Pay MRV and SEVIS fee.

Best Wishes 🙏

Thank you very much for the explicit explanation...the uni's name isn't Truft but TUFTS UNIVERSITY the mistake was from me. I am surprised 😯 to hear that some schools do no request for financial statements before I -20 can be issued. Regardless we just have to start building the account that will be needed. I appreciate everyone ones response and I don glue my chair here for more beta info. To everyone seeking for divine intervention, favour and success in his/her pursuit, May it come soonest than later,stay and be permanent AMEEN. Thank you all once again.

Hello,

I have no idea about the school but it isn’t uncommon for some schools or program to require deposits especially in CS/DS/ML/AI MS programs. My friend got into Columbia University for MS in Quantum science and Engineering and the required non refundable deposit was $4000. $4000!!! Which had to be paid 2weeks after they received the admission letter.

Thank you very much for sharing these (my heart skipped at some point not until I checked her admission letter) and saw I made a mistake in the spelling of the uni it's TUFTS UNIVERSITY and Yes I was able to get it also using the Link you sent in your post. God bless you.

Since they are insisting na to pay like this remain o. I am very excited to be a member of this group.. insights shared here are premium. Thank you all for helping out. I will keep up with this thread.

Good evening everyone, hope our day has been good? I will really appreciate guidance regarding the present admission stage (co-asking) for my sister who got admission to study a Maters program at *Truft* I am sorry not correctly spelt I meant* TUFTS *Uni. (August is the expected resumption) With a 40% grant off the tuition payment. And has 2wks to pay a non refundable deposit of $300
*Currently $300 is under process of being paid.
*Already sent mail to the sch. to confirm the actual amount expected to be paid for the program of study after the deduction of the 40% grant so that her I-20 can be received.
*Also, written and mailed admission and departmental head for more scholarship option /GTA to offset the remaining deficits. (*Just in; response from school States she has to pay the $300 first to get any info regarding GTA/TA as these options has a limited space... Biko is this normal 🤔? )
My questions are;
1. God forbid, para venture no scholarship or GTA is given as requested, when should we start building her/ sponsor's (Father) account?
2. Will she need to prove the financial statement she will be going with to the embassy during her interview and can she go with the sponsor (father) on her interview day?
3. Can she start looking for appointment date now? Even though
I-20 is yet to be received.
4. What are the requirements needed to get an appointment date for interview as an F1 student.
Thank you all for your time as I look forward to getting your feedbacks.

Continuation on why I am scared gangan is that I was told USA and Canadian embassies shares info, i have been denied 4times on application for an F1. Student visa in year 2019. #consulars claim was that i didn't show enough ties or prof of returning back to home country i chop that refusal back to back four times in row between (July to December). I applied to a community college ni o... I didn't know it was a waste of time applying for a community college when i had a bachelor's degree program certification.Now that Canada is only granting me a second degree Bsc degree program I am currently filling the IMMI 1294 FORM (APP. FOR STUDY MADE OUTSIDE CANADA) form which I will gladly appreciate guidance for. My questions are;

1. What and how do i explain my previous denials at the us embassy for an F1 study permit as asked at the background information section on the IMMI 5257 form. God I know you grant wishes and answer prayers make this effort count and successful for me and everyone looking forward to a success story like I am AMEEN .
2. At the Education section still on the form, do I fill in the 3 post secondary education programs I took?
3. At the Employment section also, does the 1year NYSC work experience count? Can i include that as well?
4. Because I am married with no kids yet does my work still works as a tie at home country to be granted Canadian study permit?
P:S: the school that granted my admission say's that tuition deposit is optional am I safe at the embassy even if I have no tuition deposited?.
5. How long does it take to get a response from the Canadian authority for permits to be granted (noting that my start date is for Jan 9 2023, alternate intake Dates are May 1 2023, or September 6, 2023. And expiry date of offer to be sept. 7 2023.

Hello everyone it's my first time here on this thread.... I appreciate everyone's meaningful contributions. Can't wait to share a successful testimony here.
My very brief history;
All Glory be to God! I just got admission to study a bachelor's degree program in a school in Canada.
I finished my undergrad studies in 2012 (Bsc. Biochemistry) with a CGPA of 2.18
Had two Post graduate diploma certification in Biological Science and in education. Because I couldn't pursue a Masters program with the low CGP. I did well in them with 3.0 and above in both
⏩ To how i got this Admission;
I was hoping to get an admission to pursue Masters program in public health or any Post grad program.... Unfortunately I kept getting not meeting up with the requirements due to low undergrad. CGP. I was further told I meet up for a second Bsc degree program. I said they should continue.
Luckily admission was granted.
On the letter it ONLY stated that I am offered acceptance into the Bachelor of Science 3-year program (90credits) at.... Univ. for 2023 winter January academic term.
#i got worried upon no specification on the course of study but was told that after 1st year / semester of study i then get to choose which field i would want to be in (mathematics, chemistry, biology, physics, nautical science).
In my head #na una sabi o make them sha grant my study permit request.

To how I can get this study permit granted I need to do the right thing and get the right help! Egbami oo I need help and guidance in this direction.

@bold....both are the exact causes of your denials. For starters, it is a bad idea to take an admission letter from a community college to the embassy, whether you are 17, 18 or 25. This is well-known knowledge on this forum if you cared to read through. Obtaining a F1 visa to attend a community college from an embassy in Nigeria is highly difficult, but not impossible. Since the last how many years, the visa officers have consistently shown preference for undergraduate students attending regular universities vs community colleges.

If you really want to attend a community college, your best bet is to apply to both a university and a community college, get admission from both, however obtain your visa using your university admission/I-20 and transfer to the community college upon arrival in the US.

Second, you already have a bachelor's degree. Even if you obtained admission from a regular university, the odds are still stacked against you because you already have a bachelor's degree. The visa officers rarely approve visas for those going for repeat degrees of the same level, except in rare cases where you have a seriously sound and cogent reason to explain why you are going for another bachelor's degree and not master's instead.

Third, your age might be another factor. For undergraduate applicants, the preferable age range for candidates is between 16 and 24 by the visa officers. Those over 25 going for undergraduate studies will have to explain why they could not get one previously. Past age 25/26 it becomes tougher but not impossible.

Basically, you have 3 huge odds against you - the type of school that you are applying to (community college vs university), you are applying for an associate degree (which is lower than the bachelor's that you already have, similar to OND vs Bsc) and your age.

Oh my! I didn't know i had dis many red flag and screaming in my application... I'd like to reach out if you don't mind plss

You have a BSc, why would you want to go get an associates degree which is a level below what you already have? Should explain why you've been denied 4 times.

I absolutely got it now i shot myself in the foot... Proper planning is paramount now to avoid being electrocuted by the embassy's Barb wire.

Thanks still need more guidance though

Scrap the conference ideas, there is a pandemic, most conferences has a virtual option. No VO will be convinced that you want spend lots of money to attend a conference abroad while you can attend it at home.

Secondly, applying for a visit visa with your previous student visa denials won’t even fly, it screams I want to japa by force.

Use your BSc, apply for a masters program. That’s the best route for you to take.

Okay wowu i didn't think changing from F1 to B2 is a not going to speak well sef ... And its part of the reason I have started attending class for the three years Midwifery program i put in for here in My state o... Masters in what will be a good consideration since my cgpa is just 2.02. God please show me the way.

Thanks for the advice

your case screams intending immigrants. I believe by Nigerians should know that saying you want to go to a community college is unbelievable because they’ll wonder why you want to travel all the way down to attend a college. Best thing is to go for a bachelors or masters or PhD rather than associate.

And for your case, you already have a bsc and you now want to go to a college.
They can’t give you even if you apply 50 times. Apply for masters,
Take your time to plan it well and dont be desperate so you don’t do things wrongly. Just relax and start all over again. Apply for something related to the work you’re doing now

you are very correct ofcourse in my mind i was hoping once granted I'd just switch straight to studying nursing and from there, turn Mario Thanks really it's worth proper planning

The responses am receiving so far is making me emotional as I pinch myself right now ... I wish someone had told me to make enquires here with you beautiful souls before setting up those not so good records at WC, Lagos .

Chai sometimes it doesn't pay to not ask questions....

Now I Know better thanks to you all.

I'd appreciate recommendations /suggestions of schools, and related courses that i can apply to for masters program.

My Education profile reads thus:
Bsc. Biochemistry (3rd class) 2012 which was what led me to get a PGD- Biological Science
PGD-Education + TRCN certification. And both PGDs' were completed with certification in 2015. Because the hope of getting a reliable job in the education sector and others wasn't forthcoming (thanks to Nigeria economy and my discipline/grade) 3 months before the reality of covid-19 downed on us all in 2020 i decided to purchase a state owned school of Nursing application form and have since started attending classes in February this year as per (i have the strong desire to japa+ my interest in the medical field never stopped haunting me since childhood) knowing i am useful in that field is a huge fulfilment for me even if na to start from scratch. God finally paved way and i am just six months old in this new job as a Scientific officer in a federal owned hospital.... With the unrest in this country i don't intend to give up my desire to leave one day.

You have the ability to pursue success when you are only but alive and healthy.

I hope i did'nt get to bore you all with my story.
Success isn't moimoi o from (someone yet to smell it) I pray God send us the right help and support we need when we need them the most AMEEN .

I have applied 4 times for an F1 visa to study in Houston community college ( liberal art and science) and got denied all through * though I have a bsc degree in biochemistry.

My Previous experiences in the american embassy have been heart acheing because I am yet to get approved...

I seriously don't wish to get denied again. It's why i have questions for the my people here it seems i was doing something wrong or it was just the system that wasn't helpful. Regardless whatever is worth doing at all is worth doing well..

My questions are
1. Is it advisable to apply again since my last visit was in 2019, but now requesting for a visiting visa (looking into conferences) is this okay.

2. I have always been denied on the basis of "not proving enough ties back home" what do i do to get through this. Plus I intending to sponsor my self ( presently employed as a scientific officer in a federal hospital) and i am currently in year one out of a three years Midwifery program here because i believe it will count as enough ties plus my personal funding... How much more do i need to do to get approved... Plss anybody's knowledgeable advice will help me out of this dilemma. I am married with no kid yet... Anybody's guidance will be highly appreciated thank you
