HealthSHOCK VIDEO: Force-feeding During Ramadan In Prison by Ajibam(op): 10:26am On Jul 11, 2013
Islamic leaders call on administration to rethink
policy towards hunger-striking detainees during
religious fast, Guantanomo Bay, Cuba.
Scroll down for video
Islamic community leaders are calling on the Obama
administration to rethink its policy of force-feeding
hunger-striking detainees in Guantánamo during the
month-long fast of Ramadan that have begun on
Monday.
The US government has said that barring "unforeseen
emergency or operational issues" it will respect the
daylight fast by trying only to force feed 45 detainees
at night. Muslim groups say that by refusing to
suspend the practice during Ramadan the US is
adding insult to injury.
"We believe it's wrong to force feed at any time but it
is particularly upsetting to do it through Ramadan,"
said Ibrahim Hooper, spokesman of the largest US
Muslim civil rights and advocacy group, the Council
On American-Islamic Relations (CAIR).
He said the situation was Kafkaesque: "It's not just a
religious issue, it's also a human rights issue in
violation of international norms and medical ethics."
Dr Azzam Tamimi, an Islamic community leader in
Britain, said he hoped the Obama administration
would reconsider. "As Ramadan starts, this issue is
becoming increasingly embarrassing for the US
government. It's about time President Obama took a
brave decision to end this in a way that would be
appreciated around the Islamic world."
The continuation of force-feeding through Ramadan is
being legally challenged by four of the 106 detainees
who are on hunger strike in protest at their prolonged
detention without trial. A lawsuit filed with a federal
court in Washington last week argues that night-time
feeding could lead to long periods without water,
endangering the hunger strikers.
To mark the beginning of Ramadan, the human rights
group Reprieve has released a video in which the
actor and rapper Yasiin Bey (aka Mos Def) submits
himself to the enteral feeding imposed in
Guantánamo. When the first tube was dislodged, he
was unable to go ahead with a second attempt by the
medical team to insert it.
The star said that he volunteered to be force-fed by
two volunteer doctors to highlight what was
happening to the hunger strikers in Guantánamo. The
four-minute video, directed by Bafta award-winning
filmmaker Asif Kapadia, seeks to reconstruct the
specific force-feeding instructions set out in standard
operating guidelines from Guantánamo leaked to al-
Jazeera.
It shows a plastic tube being inserted through Bey's
nostril into his stomach. The "Medical Management
Standard Operating Procedure" document leaked from
the detention camp defines a hunger striker as a
detainee who has missed at least nine consecutive
meals or whose weight has fallen to less than 85% of
his ideal body weight.
If force feeding is deemed medically necessary,
medical personnel shackle the detainee "and a mask
is placed over the detainee's mouth to prevent
spitting and biting". A feeding tube is then passed
through the detainee's nostril into the stomach.
The process takes about 20 to 30 minutes but they
can be required to stay in the restraint chair for up to
two hours until a chest x-ray confirms the nutrient has
reached their stomach.
The prisoner is then removed from restraint chair to
"dry cell" where they are observed by a guard for up
to an hour "for any indication of vomiting or attempts
to induce vomiting".
If they do vomit, they are returned to the restraint
chair for the entire duration of the observation period
in subsequent feeds.
If they bite the tube, the guards hold their head still
for "as long as necessary for the detainee to relax his
jaw".
Other religious groups have also spoken out against
the practice. Last month Bishop Richard Pates, chair of
the committee on international justice and peace for
the US conference of Catholic bishops, wrote to the
defence secretary Chuck Hagel noting the opposition
of the International Committee of the Red Cross to
force-feeding.
"Rather than resorting to such measures, our nation
should first do everything it can to address the
conditions of despair that have led to this protest."

CareerEnslaved To An Indian Company By "Service Bond" by Ajibam(op): 7:03am On Jul 11, 2013
"I Signed Myself Into Slavery Because Of Unemployment And Now I Can't Get Out"

Please I urgently need the help of any legal practitioners. I really don't know what I've gotten my self into.

I finished NYSC last year and two months later I was interviewed for a job at an Indian owned Pharmaceutical company. After two months I was offered the job as a Medical representative. My self and all other successful applicants were given a one-week training before we were all dispatched to our different states.

Among the employment forms we were given to sign there was a SERVICE BOND form which states that "I am to work with the company for TWO YEARS or pay a sum of 250.000" I signed because of the employment situation in the country and to be honest I was desperate I couldn't afford to be unemployed I had so many family pressures I was almost becoming depressed.

I am now on the job and my people I AM SEEING HELL!!! I work tirelessly my salary is less than 100k I spend a greater amount of it on transportation(Nature of the Job as a Medical Representative I Move from one place to the other) we were promised a car for mobility but this is almost 6months and absolutely nothing is being said about it. I am under the sun under the rain working. I hate complaining because I feel it is synonymous to being ungrateful but some days I can't take it I feel like quitting on the spot!

After I realised the service bond I signed I refused to sign the offer of employment letter (I still have it in my possession). Now I'm seeking a less stressful job because honestly this one is beginning to affect my health. How do I go about this SERVICE BOND please I really need help. I can't pay that 250k I can barely save up to 20k every month infact successfully saving 10k a month is a miracle! And I can't work for another 18 months I'm not sure I will survive. Please I need Your help!

FamilyA New Lease Of Life: Women Getting Pregnant With New Technology by Ajibam(op): 9:52pm On Jul 10, 2013
A couple that has been unable to conceive after one year of regular unprotected sexual intercourse is considered infertile. Today, 25 per cent of couples are infertile. There is a worldwide emotional epidemic of infertility.

In Nigeria, infertility, which used to be a small area of gynaecology practice, has now become a huge discipline with several doctors devoting their clinic solely to the practice of treating infertility.

As we get older, our ability to get pregnant decreases. Only one per cent of teenagers are infertile, while a large majority of infertile couples are in their 30s. It is well documented that from our teen years when the last thing we wanted was a child, to our mid 30s when we are finally secure enough to start our family, our ability to conceive decreases almost by 25 per cent.

We know that in all species, there is a very short window - in fact, a matter of days - during each month that the female is fertile and can get pregnant through sexual intercourse. The timing of sex is therefore very important if a species is to have an efficient and high fertility rate.

In humans, women go through a period of 14 days when the follicle in the ovary develops. This starts from day one of the menstruation until the egg is sufficiently mature and ready for ovulation. Once the egg is released at ovulation, there is another 14-day period that it can be fertilised. If sexual intercourse occurs at the right time, then the embryo grows and implants in the uterus, or womb. If sexual intercourse occurs at another time other than the ovulating period, it is very unlikely that the woman will get pregnant.

Animals go through what is described as an "estrus" cycle or "heat." Humans go through a menstrual cycle. Apart from other hormonal variations, one significant difference between humans and animals is that the female sex hormone, estrogen, which increases just before ovulation in animals, is the trigger factor for their sex drive. This hormone is responsible for producing eggs. In other words, animals do not desire to have sex unless there is an egg to be fertilised in the female's womb.

In humans, sex desire is much more complex and is not driven by the female sex hormone, estrogen; but by the male sex hormone, testosterone. This is unique in the animal kingdom and it is especially a human phenomenon.

The small amount of testosterone that the female makes is enough to generate sexual drive in her. It is only few females that recognise the slight increase in testosterone around the ovulation period to enable them deliberately initiate sex at the appropriate time to get pregnant.

PoliticsHow I Was Beaten And Battered By Anti-amaechi Hoodlums" - Chidi Lloyd by Ajibam(op): 9:36pm On Jul 10, 2013
Earlier today, the sitting of Rivers State House of Assembly was disrupted when hoodlums and some members attacked the principal officers of the house, with an assortment of weapons.

One of the victims, majority leader of the house, Chidi Lloyd, recounted his experience in the hands of the hoodlums.

READ BELOW:

Well, yesterday the Speaker of the House, Rt. Hon. Otelema Dan Amachree directed that the House be reconvened to consider an amendment to the 2013 appropriation law which the Governor had communicated to him via a letter and as if Mr. Speaker saw what was going to happen today, he wrote a letter through the Clerk of the House to the Commissioner of Police to provide security for today's sitting and he also wrote to the commander of 2 Amphibious Brigade who also doubles as the head of the internal JTF. So when we got to work this morning, we saw the presence of policemen numbering over 50 and we thought that this was in response to Mr. Speaker's request.

Shortly thereafter, I noticed that the five anti-Amaechi members were discussing in clusters and calling on their boys to come in. Initially, the policemen were searching everybody who would come into the premises. I had to even come down at the gate and trekked into the premises. So after a while, we learnt that there were phone calls and the commissioner of police personally called the unit, the man in charge to allow everybody in.

We went in as members who have not seen ourselves for sometime because of the crisis in the state. I was on my seat, without provocation, Hon. Evans Bipi came to me in the full glare of everybody on camera and started raining punches on me. As his leader I did not react because I felt that it is something we could settle, whatever it is, maybe I didn't greet him also. So he continued when that continued, the speaker intervened and said, ha, what's happening. Then he reached out for the tripod that stands the camera, used it freely on me, himself and Michael Okechukwu Chinda. They flogged me to their satisfaction, I didn't just utter a word until Hon. Ihunwo graciously asked me to run for my dear life because they have brought people with guns and of course when I looked at the gallery they were shouting who is the Chidi Lloyd, who is the Chidi Lloyd.

So at that point, I'm sure somebody may have reached out to the governor of the state who came in with his own security because these other policemen were there standing helplessly, watching what was going on. So he came and rescued members out of the place. Then after a while we heard that they had sat, that they were meeting, they were trying to meet, they had procured a fake mace to the House, so we went back and I took the mace where they were sitting, then I sustained injury as a result of the violence by Michael Chinda and Evans Bipi.

So while I was in the hospital the speaker and other members of the House sat and heard the amendment that the governor sent, was presented on his behalf by the deputy governor. Now these amendments are, the governor said he was just seeking for us to via some sub heads for him to enable him take care of certain unforeseen events such as flood and all that. That is why we went to work for the state only to be dealt with in the manner that they have dealt with us. I want to use this opportunity while in the hospital here, I have received phone calls of threat to life for my family and I.

Incidentally, I'm so helpless, I don't know who to run to. I can't go to the commissioner of police because he is already in the arena, he's already on the other side. I'm appealing to well-meaning Nigerians to pray for me and my family. That is the last hope we have resorted to and that we also urge the National Assembly, the Senate President and the Speaker of the House of Reps not to turn the other way on the events of Rivers State. This could lead to something that we cannot imagine. It had happened in Anambra State, people were laughing, today is Rivers State nobody knows the next state it would be. If we are practising a democracy, let us please for crying out loud play by the rules. Nigerians should pray for me and come to our aid. The state is under siege. You can't even vouch for the safety of the Governor. The people are getting more dashed out on a daily basis

Jobs/VacanciesRe: 5 Signs You Are Not As Smart As You Think. by Ajibam: 5:59pm On Jul 10, 2013
rodeo0070: It’s a concept that can be difficult to come to terms with, but like it or not our intellect (or our perceived intellect) can often work against us in life. The indications are all there once you have the eyes to see them. Have you fell into the “I think I’m too smart for my own good” trap? Don’t worry the big part of correcting a mistake is realizing it exists! Check out these 5 signs you are not as smart as you think you are and see if any or all apply to you. Coming quickly to terms with them and correcting this kind of self-defeating behavior can make you truly smarter fast! And perhaps more importantly, much happier too.

Lack of Professional Success

Opinions are by their nature subjective – think of beauty as being in the eyes of the beholder as a classic example – while end results, like numbers in a pay check are very much objective and impossible to argue with. Smart people leverage their intelligence into professional success. If you are thirty five years old, consider yourself brilliant yet are living in your parent’s basement it’s pretty clear you are not as smart as you think you are. Smart people figure out a way to make money not make excuses!

Always Being in the Center of Conflict

Smart people, truly smart people that is, don’t spend every waking moment wasted in argument, conflict and debate. The need to prove how correct you are at the expense of co-workers, friends, family and the majority of people you meet on the street reveals a insecurity that truly intelligent people rarely have. It’s a flashing neon sign that tells the world you are not nearly as smart as you think you are! Avoid unneeded conflict and watch the energy you save get utilized for positive projects and to fuel constructive behavior. Now that’s a sign you are getting smarter!

You Are Always Rushing Around and Way too Busy

Do you find most of your days fighting the clock and running from crisis to crisis? Time and energy management is a skill all truly smart people quickly learn to manage to make the most out of life, minimize stress and out produce their less smart peers. Ask yourself if you are so intelligent why are you always running around in a panic like a chicken without a head? Occasional bouts of overwork may be unavoidable aspects of our professional or home lives, certainly, but if this is a reoccurring nightmare you are hardly as smart as you may like to think you are. Smart people know this is hardly a way to live or to produce up to a person’s true highest potential!

You Talk Much More than You Listen

What do you think of when you are around someone who just won’t stop talking to even catch a breath? Don’t images of scam artists, unscrupulous used car salesmen and high school air heads flash to mind? Certainly not people with true intelligence who understand there’s much more benefit and lasting power in the sometimes lost art of listening rather than talking. Which category do you most often fall it – the endless babbler or the active listener? The answer says a great deal about just how smart you really are. Listen more and talk less.

Your Reading Habits are Hardly Challenging

If you needed to find one top quality shared by all truly intelligent people you could do much worse than focusing on the love of reading. Real reading about difficult and thought provoking subjects – not escapist low brow entertainment. Reading is an essential tool in the quest for continued self development and it’s embraced by all the truly smart. If you consider yourself in this category, but spend your free time zoned out in front of the television or wasting time reading foolish crime novels it may be time to reconsider. A few hours of challenging reading a night can help expand your intelligence and creativity in astoundingly magical ways and move you quickly towards being smart for real. Adopting this habit alone can be a true game changer you will have no choice, but to thank yourself for a year from now. Don’t hesitate to act on it if you’d like to be smart rather than just think you are smart!

JayCee2010: @ OP
At 22yrs I'm sure your situations must be extremely difficult but there's hope:
Here's some medical explanation : ur pproblem is called Enuresis. This is urinating while asleep, doesn't even have to be at night.
Its expected in younger children but as they grow bladder control improves and some can go thru the night with a full bladder without bed wetting. However, some adults still have weak bladder controls and may wake up several times @ night to urinate or wet the bed in ur case
Causes:- Sickle cell pattients produce lots of urine and thus can wet the bed.
-Bladder muscle problems where the bladder doesn't accommdoate a lot of urine before making u feel pressed or a small bladder- u will know if you're urine volume is very small when ever u are very pressed
-i don't remember you stating your gender but women have a shorter urethra (for passage of urine from the bladder) thus a full bladder when abdominal pressure rises can push urine out
-Problems with sphincter control due to weak muscles.
-or it could be just that you're tootired to wake up at night and go pee, so u do it in your sleep-,sometimes having a dreamm that you actually went to the toilet even though in reality you didn't.
-also psychological problems of being bullied, molested or abused as a child can manisfest as enuresis which would require psychological counselling.

Solutions:
1. Avoid drinking fluids 2 hours before bed time, and try to empty ur bladder before u sleep even if you're not pressed
2 set an alarm to wake you up in the middle of the night around 2am to urinate. Try to do it regularly until it becomes a habit and u won't need the alarm.
3 learn to do kegel exercises for your bladder sphincter. It involves tightening your bladder sphincter muscle as if you're trying to hold in urine. Do this for a few minutes several times during the day. Over time this will strengthen you're sphincter and give you better bladder control even while asleep. Go on line and read more about how to effectively do KEGEL exercises.
Conclusion: no adult shud ever have to deal with the embarrasmment of bladder (or bowel) control and if you're not able to go for an entire year without ever bed weting, I suggest you see your doctor for further help. But I'm pretty sure you will over come the problem with my advice and. That ofother people on this tthread. God bless
