Nairaland GeneralRe: Open Letter To Governor Akinwunmi Ambode Concerning Ketu B/s Traffic Situation by ajibsca(op): 2:56pm On Jul 23, 2015
Front page please mods.
Nairaland GeneralOpen Letter To Governor Akinwunmi Ambode Concerning Ketu B/s Traffic Situation by ajibsca(op):
My Excellency , Firstly ,I felicitate with you on your recent conferment as the executive Governor of Lagos state following the recently concluded elections.

I wish to bring to your notice the issue of traffic offenses and hold up caused by the yellow bus drivers popularly known as danfo along the Ketu bus stop area and its extensions on Lagos - Ikorodu road.

It is a known fact that Ketu bus stop is one of the busiest commercial bus terminals in Lagos state and as such the need for traffic control ,enforcement laws and regulation have to be well addressed and implemented right from Ojota to Mile 12. It is also a known fact that the previous administration under the platform of your party (APC) was able to introduce BRT lanes and the service lanes for the use of commercial bus stops in order not to congest the express lanes and enhance the free flow of traffic.   As a concerned and well meaning Nigerian, I have been able to study observe that the traffic on that route is solely caused by the bus drivers who take advantage of the fact that the law enforcement agencies are busy collecting bribes and not enforcing the laws as constituted by the Lagos State traffic laws.

I hereby kindly implore you Sir with the power vested upon you as the Governor of our beloved state and being a man of vision and mission to look into this matter and consolidate alongside with the appropriate authorities to end the traffic menance and disorderliness caused by the Danfo drivers on a daily basis.

They should only be allowed to operate and pick up passengers at the designated service lanes and not cause unnecessary flow of traffic which is a factor that can hinder productivity in this part of the world since we all know that time is money.   I believe you can set up and equip a special task force comprising of people with high sense of discipline and intellect  to oversee to the daily traffic management of Ketu bus stop as well as other notable bus stops in Lagos in a bid to ease the flow of traffic. I am of the belief that we can make Lagos a better place for us all and someday fall into the class of one of the developed commercial capital cities in the world.

Eko Oni Baje.

Respectfully,
A well meaning Nigerian.

I subscribe to the idea of exportation because of the way our naira has been devalued against the dollar. Now is the time when we should start generating dollar income which makes more economic sense. First and foremost, I think we should enlighten ourselves about the pros and cons of exporting such as sourcing of clients and the shipping aspect of the term export. A lot of us are aware of shipping companies and organizations that import our things and even deliver to our doorsteps .That takes us to the question - Where are the shipping companies that will export our agro produce among many other things at substantial and profitable rates. God bless Nigeria. One day, some day, Africa will be free , Africa will unite.

THANK YOU FOR THE ENLIGHTENMENT SIR . WITH ALL DUE RESPECT ,I WOULD LIKE TO ASK YOU A FEW QUESTIONS ... FIRST QUESTION FOR YOU IS WHAT CAR DO YOU DRIVE AND DID YOU BUY IT BRAND NEW huhhuhhuhhuhhuh WHY DIDNT YOU BUY INNOSON OR THE NIGERIAN MADE CARS ?

SECOND QUESTION- WHAT % OF NIGERIANS CAN AFFORD A 5 YR OLD TOKUNBO CAR TALK LESS OF A BRAND NEW ? THERE IS MASSIVE SUFFERING WHERE PEOPLE CANT EVEN AFFORD TO EAT 3 GOOD MEALS A DAY AND YOU THINK THE ONLY WAY YOU CAN MAKE LIFE BETTER FOR THEM IS TO INFLICT MORE SUFFERING BY ADDING MORE TO THEIR UNSOLVED PROBLEMS ?

NOW LETS LOOK AT IT THIS WAY .... YOU ARE A CIVIL SERVANT AND YOU EARN 40,000 NAIRA MONTHLY AND A LOT OF CIVIL SERVANTS EARN WAY LESS THAN THAT WHICH ISNT STILL ENOUGH TO CATER FOR YOU ALONE TALK LESS OF YOUR FAMILY ,RENT , BASIC AMENITIES, CHILDREN SCHOOL FEES (VERY EXORBITANT THESE DAYS ) AND ETC . CAN YOU TAKE OUT 37,000 NAIRA FROM YOUR SALARY FOR AN AUTO LOAN ? ANSWER IS NO

#2. THERE IS NO BLACK MARKET FOR THE NIGERIAN MADE CAR PARTS YET SO GETTING REPLACEMENT PARTS WILL BE VERY EXPENSIVE UNLIKE USING A TOYOTA, HONDA ETC THAT YOU CAN GET AT IKEJA, LADIPO, ALABA AND ETC ETC.

#3. THE MONIES BEING MADE FROM ALL THE PREVIOUS YEARS I.E TARIFFS /IMPORT DUTIES ETC ETC , OF WHAT USE HAS IT BEEN TO ME AND YOU ? ZERO , ALL GOING DOWN TO A FEW POCKETS.

4. BECAUSE YOU WANT TO ENCOURAGE THE PRODUCTION AND CONSUMPTION OF MADE IN NIGERIA CARS , YOU HAVE TO INFLATE THE COST OF IMPORTATION ? WHAT KIND OF ECONOMICS IS THAT ? WHAT THEY NEED TO DO IS TO GIVE ROOM TO ACCESSIBILITY OF THESE KIND OF LOANS TO THE MASSES AT AFFORDABLE RATES CONSIDERING OUR ECONOMY AND MINIMUM WAGE SINCE A LOT OF PEOPLE STILL EARN 15,000 MONTHLY IN THIS COUNTRY EXCEPT THE POLICY IS MEANT ONLY FOR THE BENEFIT OF THE RICH. THEY ALSO NEED TO HAVE MORE PLANTS WHERE PARTS WILL BE READILY AVAILABLE AT AFFORDABLE PRICES.

5. IF I CAN AFFORD TO AND I TAKE OUT A CAR LOAN FOR 37,000 FOR INSTANCE AND I HAVEN'T BEEN PAID SALARY OF 40,000 NAIRA IN 3 MONTHS JUST LIKE THE RECENT ISSUES RELATED TO UNPAID SALARIES IN NIGERIA .... WILL THE AUTO FINANCING COMPANY HOLD THE GOVERNMENT OR ME RESPONSIBLE ?? YOU HAVE NO CHOICE BUT TO MAKE THE PAYMENTS AS AGREED AS AT WHEN DUE. IF PAYMENT TERMS ARE NOT MET, THE FINANCING COMPANY RESERVES THE RIGHT TO REPOSSESS THE CAR .

WITH ALL OF THESE FACTORS, I CAN TELL YOU THAT ITS ALMOST IMPOSSIBLE FOR AN AVERAGE NIGERIAN LIVING MONTH TO MONTH TO BENEFIT FROM SUCH SCHEMES EXCEPT YOU HAVE A WELL SECURED AND GOOD PAYING JOB.

IF I MAY ASK MR ECONOMIST ,WHAT BRAND OF CAR DO YOU DRIVE ? INNOSON OR ANNAMCO AND DID YOU BUY BRAND NEW ? PEOPLE ARE TRYING TO MAKE ENDS MEET IN A COUNTRY WHERE NOTHING IS WORKING AND YOU ARE HERE SENTIMENTING THEIR RUBBISH POLICIES THAT WILL ONLY HARM YOU AND I FINANCIALLY. THE TARIFFS THEY HAVE BEEN MAKING ALL THESE YRS, WHAT HAVE THEY USED IT FOR ? PURCHASE OF PRIVATE JETS WHILE THE AVERAGE CITIZEN IS STILL BEING OWED USELESS MINIMUM WAGE FOR MONTHS. WELL AS FOR ME ,TOYOTA AND HONDA UNTIL THEY CAN START PROVIDING CAR MORTGAGES/PAYMENT PLANS AND THE LIKES THAT WILL BENEFIT AVERAGE PEOPLE LIKE YOU AND ME. LESS I FORGET,IF YOU BUY A GOOD TOKUNBO CAR WITH GOOD MAINTENANCE HISTORY, YOU WILL HAVE NO PROBLEMS WHATSOEVER WITH A USED CAR.

kennaustine:
^^^ Whats really wrong with y'all APC propagandist? The increase in tariffs for imported automobile is to encourage local automobile manufacturers. Common SS2 Economics student will tell you that one way of encouraging local production is increasing import tariffs. That's called Import Substitution Strategy. Aren't you ashamed that Nigeria has become a dumping ground for every kind of crap produced in other climes? We have Innoson, PAN, ANNAMCO, VON, Nissan and other automobile manufacturers in Nigeria and we know that government is trying to revitalize them so as to boosts our economy. Yet you criticize this one very good move government makes to see to its realization. Many of these imported cars have been used for above five years and then they're moved to Nigeria for dumping, after which when you buy, you'll use for no more than three years and the money u would have spent on repairs and maintenance may have exceeded the original cost. Some brand new Innoson cars go for 1.5m and they're trying to beat it down to 1m. So which is better ; buying a brand new car for 1.5m and enjoying it for 3 to 4 years without excessive repair cost or buying a tokie car for 800thousand and spending over 500thousand on repairs in 3 years. A relation of mine has spent about 300th on repairs on a tokie car he bought for about 800th and the car IS STILL HAVING ISSUES. Wont it have been better to just buy a brand new made-in-Nigeria car and save yourself some unecessary stress. Why are we so used to cheap craps and worthless articles? Is that what APC wants for us? SMH. Which way Nigeria? #SeeBeyondPropaganda

PoliticsLetter To Nigeria -where We Are Coming From, where We Are & Where We Are Headed? by ajibsca(op): 6:51am On Jul 28, 2014
Before you read this, I would like to kindly implore you to sift your mind away from every political, religious and ethnic sentiments or ideologies and open our minds to think as brothers and sisters with the sole purpose of being each other's keepers and making our little world called Nigeria a better place to live in for generations to come..... It has become no news to the world that the northern part of Nigeria especially has turned into another Gaza or bomb testing ground. We read in the newspaper every day about bombings in the mosques, churches, public gathering places etc . The bombings have so far so bad taken away lives of tens of thousands of Nigerians like yourself and myself whether patriotic or unpatriotic, Christian or Muslim , Innocent and Guilty and the list goes on. You will agree with me that these bad, demistifying and heart breaking news making headlines doesn't portray
us as a people with direction or as a united nation destined to achieve greatness or progress . I for one person think it's time we the future of this nation take just a moment out of our given 24 hrs by our creator, reflect back on our history, look at where we are coming from, where we are today and where we would like to be in the next say 5 yrs from now and think within ourselves, what if I or one of my family member was a victim of a bomb attack. It is very glaring and apparent that nobody wants to die even the old who have had the opportunity to spend 100 years on earth talkless of dying in a bomb blast.

My main purpose of opening this thread is for us as a people to address, identify, unite and find a lasting solution to the issue of insecurity and terrorism facing our country Nigeria as a nation. You will agree with me that these issues pose a national threat to you and me since many of us are now restricted to being in one part of the country and can't even visit other parts of OUR own country for fear of insecurity. For instance, I myself have been to Abuja twice which is in the Northern part of our country and I find to be a lovely place to go to unwind with the beauty of the various parks , nice infrastructure and what have we. Unfortunately, I cannot venture into traveling to ANY Northern state in Nigeria presently and in the future because of these same insecurity reasons that has taken the lives of some very unlucky and unfortunate tens of thousands of Nigerians like you and me. I remember that lovely Sunday afternoon while in Abuja and I visited Abacha barracks with friends and we had a few drinks , ate and we were glad we came to Abuja because the atmosphere was fun and affordable ....Few years later, on the headline news , we read and heard the news about the bomb blast - What a day to remember ! RIP to the souls of the faithful departed. Kindly bear in mind that many of these dead and gone people were only victims of deaths arising from the ideologies of extremists who think in an inhumane, irrational and animalistic nature and the same thing(death from a bomb attack) could happen to myself or yourself reading this post if bad luck happens to knock on your door and you are at the wrong place at the wrong time .

According to Dictionary.com , a problem is defined as "any question or matter involving doubt, uncertainty, or difficulty." Problems can be classified into two kinds to my level of knowlege and understanding : solvable and unsolvable.

OUR problems now in Nigeria you will agree with me is the lack of love for our fellow humans , greed, politics, discontent and selfishness.

I would like us to focus on the issues astake and contribute to these core issues as our own problems because if Nigeria ends up turning into another Iraq or Gaza or Palestine....It is still OUR country since you have a Green passport carrying the Coat of Arms of the Federal Republic of Nigeria and if Nigerian ends up being a failed or war torn nation, then you will also be classified as a product of such and generations to come will have to live with the trauma of being born by a failed generation. You on the other hand will be left with the same image of terrorists to the international community as we have gradually become one of the countries with the highest amount of terrorism and insurgencies in just a few years since the birth of this syndrome called Boko Haram. According to Wikipedia , Nigeria ranks # 7 in Global Terrorism Index .You will agree with me that this is bad news for our country Nigeria.

Source:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Global_Terrorism_Index

WHAT IS YOUR TAKE AND WHAT ARE YOUR SUGGESTIONS ON HOW TO TACKLE THE PROBLEMS OF INSECURITY/TERRORISM AND BRING AN END TO BOKO HARAM AS WELL AS BRING THE CHANGE WE NEED IN OUR NATION NIGERIA ?

From a concerned and patriotic Nigerian. God bless Nigeria, God Bless Africa.

HealthRe: Why Do Kidney Transplant Abroad When It Can Done In Nigeria? by ajibsca: 12:42am On Jul 03, 2013
It's not really the same thing bro. Some of those things you mentioned, like the master's programmes, might be better, or more cutting edge. Ditto european soccer. Unless you're a coach you're watching it to be entertained, would you say NPL entertains you? If you could go and see the best nollywood actors act a play on stage, would you willingly say no, instead I'm going to watch the amateurs from my church? If you would, I commend your loyalty cheesy All those things are a matter of preference, or there is a clear difference in quality. Most people won't wear Aba made clothes, but they will wear Nigerian designers if the quality is good.

Now, in the case of kidney transplants. If the doctor knows what he is talking about, and you too should do research to raise points of concern, why would you spend the extra money and go abroad when there's a quite capable person here? Unlike football, clothes, or education, there is a sort of universal standard in medicine. I mean yeah you have world-class surgeons like that guy in colorado athletes go to see but there is a universal standard that means even the doctors here aren't some cack handed person playing operation with your body.

Those foreign hospitals, its a case of the grass is greener. My sister had surgery as a student in the US and then had another surgery in Lagos last year and they seem to have left some stuff inside. My mum also had surgery in the US, and they didn't give her any antibiotics, it's apparently not SOP there. Can you imagine not getting antibiotics in Naija? She had to be rushed back to the hospital a few days later because of infection. Why pay so much money extra for the same level of (in)competence. Unless you're going to go and be worked on by some guy who might win a nobel prize for medicine because of his research into kidney ailiments, it's all varying shades of the same level of skill.

I could be talking rubbish sha.
