PoliticsFg Targets 50m Tonnes In Local Food Production -adesina by ak47mann(op): 1:12am On Jan 03, 2012
The Federal Government is set to reverse the dependence on food imports and has projected the addition of 50 million tonnes of food to the nation’s food supply system between now and 2015.

The Minister of Agriculture and Rural Development, Dr Akinwunmi Adesina, disclosed this in an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Abuja on Friday.

According to Adesina, the country’s food import bill between 2007 and 2010 peaked at N98 trillion or $628 billion dollars.

He said that during the period, N635 billion was spent to import wheat, N365 billion on rice, N217 billion on sugar and N97 billion on fish.

He said that to kick-start the Agricultural Transformation Agenda (ATA), the ministry was focusing on five crops-cassava, rice, cocoa, sorghum and cotton.

The minister  said that the transformation of the sector would strengthen the government’s food security programme, improve the living conditions of farmers and generate more employment.

He said that the government had expanded the processing capacity of rice mills in Ebonyi, Niger and Kebbi states, by accelerating their completion to go into full production by February of 2012.

The mills have a total processing capacity of 90,000 tonnes of rice.

Adesina said that by April 2012, 14 rice mills with a total capacity of 440,000 tonnes would come on stream under a Public Private Partnership (PPP) arrangement.

He said that the PPP arrangement had become necessary for all stakeholders to enable the agriculture sector to regain its lost glory.

``If you look at the rest of the countries of the world, the private sector had always been in the driving seat in agriculture development.

``All the government does is to facilitate; create the enabling environment where banks will support those private sector people that are in agriculture and where markets will be open and value added processes will be put in place.’’

Adesina said that to feed the mills and ensure constant paddy production, the government was targeting 450,000 rice farmers in 2012 and would provide them with all the needed inputs and irrigation facilities for all-season rice farming.

By December 2012, the tariff on rice would be raised to 100 per cent, he said. (NAN)

Abagworo:
You need verification please. Ezza are indigenous to Abakiliki and not migrants from anywhere. They are the biggest tribe in Ebonyi State. Ezillo is a much smaller tribe that needed Ezza to help them fight a war which they rewarded with piece of land. The Ezzas in Ezillo are known as Ezza-Ezillo. They are like the Abam in Nkwerre or Aro in Izuogu.

As a non travelled Igbo man, you can neither understand Ezza nor Ezillo nor Izzi nor Ehugbo.
ok fine, cool cool am still studying ebony state not too familiar about them cool

Chyz*:
The Ezza have their own particular land. They are a big clan, especially when compared to Ezilo. They were in Ezza land before they were invited by the Ezilo to fight the Ngwo. The Ezza there are now called Ezza-Ezilo and are trying to expand outside of ther land that was given to them by the Ezilo. When ever those Ezza ib Ezilo land are abused by the Ezilo the Ezza people go and call there people from their real land, which is a lot of them, then they unleash havoc. Both Ezza and Ezilo clans are treacherous people thats why when they war they war big.

kinda reminds me of the Aros. When they use to get there butts kick they got tired of it then seeked help from the Ohafia and Abiriba clans. grin
that is the thing, ezzilo invited them and use them to fight for lands, now is hunting others, ezzilla clans are war people,

bolded is very funny cheesy cheesy

@ak47mann: When did the Ezza migrate to Ebonyi?

Btw is this accurate:
If so, where did they live before 1930?
am not too sure about the accuracy, but what i was told they came from middle-belt i think they were originally from benue state, they were trading with igbos from afikpo and abakiliki clans years ago, some of them later settled in the land and mix with the rest of the indigenous, and even their igbo dilate is very different from others, i cant even understand them when they speak,

Chyz*:
they are unigbo-like.
yes!! they are not,the thing is those groups are trying to capture many lands from the indigenous ebonians, this is not the first time they have strike, state government should try and settle them, there ancestors have been living with the ebonians for over 3 centuries, so to me they are indigenous and part of old Abakaliki division of Enugu State and old Afikpo division of Abia State and cross rivers to the east.
PoliticsRe: Ethnic Clashes In Ebonyi, Another Slaughter! by ak47mann(m): 9:19pm On Jan 01, 2012
people of( ezza) migrated from middle-belt yrs ago, they scattered all over ebony state and they have been fighting for land dispute cos of fertile land in the state, and looking at the geographical map,u will see that the state got boundaries with two different regions.

ebony is mix with settlers,

Am not saying it to defend the people of ebony state, but i think this incident, the killers came from outside,i reserves my comment at the moment. When you look at the the killing pattern, you will see that the tactics they use was the same as in middle-belt,they are trying to drag this to all out war!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! cool cool cool

True. Comical that Kano is "officially" the most populous Nigerian State at 9.3 million while Lagos is next at 9.01 million. Such deception may serve the purpose of some in the short term but ends up harming Nigeria badly overall considering how accurate censors are powerful tools that assist vital forecasting and planning.

PoliticsRe: Nigeria's Population Now 168m, Hits 221m In 2020 by ak47mann(op): 9:18pm On Dec 31, 2011
The thing is Nigeria census count is all political to get more location and win election, the problem is that politicians will use these as a tool to get there, poor families living in a very bad conditions you see them breeding 10/12 per family and their father is an okada man or gate-man,their is no family planing in  place all na for mouth, that is why their is so many bastards in Nigeria walking around,

some end up participating in evil crimes just to survive, some of those kids will have to fine a way to feed his or her sibling plus parents too,and the ignorance is still there, and no one is educating them,

a lot of things need to be done for things to change,
