What happens at Gani square is not mere rally against fuel price hike;its anti-party campaign, social networking, shows and canival.Don't mind the myopic and selfish and unpatriotic crowds, busy commiting treasonable offences out there.people will just open their mouths to talk rubbish without any respect to the constitution.Unreasonable human beings that thinks only for today. The fight against corruption must start from the root;which is the fuel subsidy,to weakens the synergy of the oil magnats and the so called cabal.GEJ,remove the subsidy on fuel to weaken the potency of corruption in this country call Nigeria,

Let me tell you why I think Ojukwu is the unhappiest man today; he is very unhappy because the greatest casualty of the civil war is not those killed; it is not property destroyed, but the death of the spirit of the Igbo-man.
“Forty to fifty years after the war, the Igbo man can’t rise up with courage and say this is my right; let me claim it back; and this is what the spirit of Ojukwu is telling you today; wherever he is today watching you, he will recover tomorrow if he knows that you are going to rise as one people to reassert, once more, the preeminent

position of ndi igbo in Nigeria cool

Haribo:
I think that if we look at the bigger picture, Nigeria can use the ongoing strike to teach our leaders who the country really belongs to (It belongs to you and me, for those that are unaware). Fuel subsidy is one thing, but government accountability & transparency is something we have never seen in our country.

The wealth of the nation benefits only a choice few - This fact is the underlying reason that started the Biafran war. ALL Nigerians should be able to enjoy the benefits of citizenry.

It would do us well to keep this in mind as we all debate whether or not the SE/SS or whoever people should support the strike. Bad governance is still scr*ewing Nigerians over daily, subsidy or no subsidy. And yes, Igboland is affected. We should sieze this opportunity to make our leaders do their jobs as our employees.

Anyway, RIP to the late General. He was someone that actually tried to do something to benefit his people. I'm not pro-war, but in a dog-eat-dog place like Naija, a person that can stand up and speak out like that is truly commendable. Let's not let his efforts go to waste.

Just my 2kobo.
good point, apart from subsidy, anything else we will join cool cool

prof nnaji,

The Federal Government plans to plough a good amount of funds saved from removal of petrol subsidy to quickly add about 4000 megawatts (MW) of electricity to the national grid, Minister of Power, Prof. Barth Nnaji has disclosed.

Nnaji said in Abuja over the weekend that with the expected availability of funds from the removal of subsidy on petrol by the government, construction work on five identified power plants across the country would commence.

The plants he said would add 4000MW to the national grid within a very short period.

The identified power plants are the Mambilla hydro power plant in Gembu, Taraba state which has a capacity of 2000MW when completed and four coal-fired power plants in Enugu, Gombe, Kogi and Benue States with combined capacities of 2000MW.

Nnaji stated that the capacity of the government to provide its counterpart funds for these power projects and other pockets of power projects around the country would be greatly enhanced.

He said: “There is a misreading of what the government programme is about on the removal of petrol subsidy and we think that the media should be upbeat in telling Nigerians what is going on.

The immediate advantage of having subsidy is very minimal in comparison to the benefits of not having it in the future and re-channelling the resources to improve the country and we have in the power sector alone quite a lot of things that will be done.”
According him, “With this re-channelling of resources that could have gone to subsidy in the power sector, there will be investment in Mambilla power plant; I want to tell you that Mambilla has been discussed since 1979 when people began to work in the project and it has just been talk, talk, talk, but now action is coming through this initiative.”
