AKMoney1: Why are guys attacking themselves on this thread na?
The main function of these rail lines is to get cargos across to other parts of the country with no seaports with ease and you are here discussing which states produces more agricultural products. Tribalism has eaten deeply into ours souls in this country, make God help us. But why Nigeria depend on only Lagos seaport? I can imagine the cost and stress of transporting those goods through Lagos. If a deep commercial seaport is developed in either Calabar, Uyo, port Harcourt, Yenagoa or Warri wouldn't that have been better and cheaper? Tribalism will ruin this country if we don't let every part feel among the federation. |

It's time for a sounther-o-cracy That is if they are frustrated to seed power to the south. Really even though I'm from the southwest, I still blame our Tinubu for selling Buhari to yourubas. Yes we know Tinubu wanted the Federal recognition/power and the means to get it was to liaise with Buhari and majority of his yourba supporters. Even now, Tinubu is regretting it cos he is not benefiting from what he bargained. Buhari is an extremist and that was why he has continually loosing elections...save for Tinubu. Now we are all regretting it even our Osibanjo is no where to be found in the government. Lesson: Tinubu selfish interest led to Buhari's victory...we should not allow our selfish interest to override the interest of vast majority. |

this is a great lesson for southerners. Wen u get thr, all appointments shld be frm the south. And to northerners, don't cry to heavens wen it's ur turn to be side-lined cos no northerner is talkin despite the obvious. Buhari is not worth bn a leader as he has proven himself to be a father of the north/fulanis. If I were southerners in ApC, i'd leave d party for the northerners. Cos truly, ApC is an islamic/party of the north. Imagine wit all the appointments/projects Jonathan gave to this backward region n all they could do is to fill up current appointments with their ppl. I'd rather vote for the worst southern leader than give my vote to the best of best northern candidate I don't think the north will zone/support southern presidency again. They will rather rig the subsequent elections and use the judiciary to shut southerners up. |

MadCow1: Nice Idea..
However, we are moving away from that place where the Government builds and operates businesses. History has shown us that it does not work. NNPC, Ajaokuta, NEPA, NITEL, e.t.c are all glaring examples of our Governments failure in this regard.
With an extra 400 Billion Niara running circles in our economy, we will need local businesses that will have to provide 400 billion Naira's worth of services so inadvertently, these industries will come. Imagine the One-Egg-Per-Child Program alone takes 100 Billion out of that 400 Billion Naira, that means we will need to have local farms producing 100 Billion naira worth of eggs per month. That means more Chickens.. Probably more than our local demand needs, therefore we will start exporting.
I am not an economist, but I know that Economics is not a straight science. I have a gut feeling that if this is genuinely implemented and monitored, it could be very good for us in the long run. Neither are my an economist too. I agree it will increase agro production and patronage. There is no doubt about that. And which will I Increase productivity in that sector. But why will all Nigerian primary school pupil not covered except those in public schools? They are Nigerians you know. The parents should be empowered instead of giving their children meals. Will.government all pay for their shelter and clothing? |

mapet: Bros,
It's been proven over time that government overt involvement in business has been a near, if not a, disaster. 400 production companies will run aground pretty fast. MKO once said "government should have no business in business".
Truth is primary school student are pretty hungry. You need to leave your comfort zone and go streetward to see that in many families they can hardly boast of 3meals a day. I definitely agree to your opinion. I don't mean government running it but giving out the loans the groups of entrepreneurs. Primary school education in Nigeria. If parents can not feed their children at age of 6-12, government should empower the adults and not feeding the children. Because some illiterate parents will have more children when they realise that government will 'subsidize'. I just talked to an NGO on this issue now and I was made to understand that even those in private primary schools too find it difficult to feed 3 meals per day. But they have to keep struggling to pay their school fees for better education than what is obtained in public schools. If it has to be so, then they should feed all primary school pupils in Nigeria irespective of where the child attends school. My opinion. I louded the government decision in removing subsidy but it seems the subsidy removal will be channelled to welfare and not for developmental projects as it was promised. |

MadCow1: That is 400 Billion Naira that will be circulating within the Economy..
Not a kobo of that 400 Million is leaving the Economy.. How can that be bad? Yeah I support that the money is within the economy and If an 'average Nigerian' will gain contract for supplies and the rest. Its a good idea. To me I'm looking at government investing 400billion creating production companies of 1billion naira each of 400 units or 500million naira each of 800 companies in different categories of products to boost our export scattered all over the federation that will boost our non -oil exports, thereby creating hundreds of thousands of jobs and earning fx into our economy. Lets imagine 400billion annually for 4yrs creating such and that will by far reduce importation to a very large extent. Primary school students are not starving/hungry. |

waice6571: In my own case, I have been able to separate hatred for govt from reality.
The question is: 1. How long can they sustain this program?
2. What is the cost implication in the next four years?
3. What will be implication if same amount is sincerely channelled towards fixing electricity/ rural roads construction for reliable transportation of agricultural produce which is more beneficial to the people?
4. Why can't government handle governmental businesses and parents; parenting?
I don't expect such amount to end in septic tank without any return.
Quote me with honest answers. Thanks. Its still 18 states for 93 billion naira (for six months). In 1 year 18 states will consume 186 billion naira. Ans when all the 36 states get involved + the FCT it will amount to about 400 billion naira just to feed primary school pupils annually in Nigeria. |

Politics › Nigeria Spends N14,000 Daily To Feed Each Prisoner — Minister by akinbros(op): 3:47pm On May 12, 2016 |
Nigerian government is annually spending N10billion for feeding of prisoners in the country, minister of Interior, AbdurRahman Dambazau has said.
With the country’s estimated prison population of 57,000, the government is roughly spending N14,000 for a three-square meal of each prisoner per day.
Speaking at a town hall meeting in Kaduna on Tuesday, Dambazau said his ministry is searching inward to see how it can harness some revenue sources in the sector to complement government’s efforts.
“It is unacceptable for government to be commiting N10 billion every year on feeding of prison inmates,” Dambazau said.http://dailynigerian.com/2016/05/10/nigeria-spends-n14000-daily-to-feed-each-prisoner-minister/So this minister can lie at his age...what do they think Nigerians are? 14,000 per day to feed a prisoner...that is close to monthly minimum wage. But still the prisoners look malnutrition-fed. Must every APC member lie? |
