President Muhammadu Buhari, has charged them to play every match for the honour of motherland and make him and fellow Nigerians proud.

His words, “I will be watching, just as millions of Nigerians would also do. You have our solid support, and we will cheer you to victory”.

He noted that football is a strong unifying force for Nigerians, and urged the Super Eagles to provide a soothing balm to the many challenges facing the country, which the government is confronting with everything at its disposal.

“Nigerians are known for their unconquerable spirit. Show this in the group stages, and even beyond. Nothing but lifting of the diadem is good enough for our country,” President Buhari stated.

He also enjoined the Super Eagles to be mindful of fair play, and sportsmanlike conduct, as they strive to return home with the AFCON trophy.

The Benue state police command have arrested and paraded five suspected thieves and receivers of stolen items in the state. A statement from the command says on Tuesday June 18th, the command received a tipoff that some hoodlums broke into a victims house and stole some valuables.

SARS operatives swung into action and arrested one Kenneth Ogbole Okpoju 'm' of Adoka Otukpo L.G.A of Benue State. Further investigation led to the arrest of the following suspects Isah Ibrahim, Abdulrahaman Yunusa and Alhassan Ali all 'm' of Kano street, Wadata. Eight different types of plasma television and one old model television were recovered from them.

The case is still under investigation. The command has advised residents of the state whose TV sets have been stolen in recent times, to come forward to collect them with sufficient proof of ownership.

One Agatha Raymond has been arrested by the Delta state police command for inflicting injuries on her stepbrother, Chibuzor.

The mother-of-two is said to be in the habit of hurting the 15-year-old victim with a hot knife, whenever he does anything to “annoy” her.

Kwara State Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq has lamented the condition of the state’s orientation camp for the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) members, describing it as a “penitentiary…that is not fit for human living”. He said the administration would do something quickly to rehabilitate the camp, beginning with fixing the water and health facilities.

“I apologise for the state of your living accommodation. After seeing them, it is like a penitentiary. It is not fit for human living,” AbdulRazaq said at the official opening and swearing in of the NYSC 2019 Batch ‘B’ (Stream 1) at Yikpata Orientation Camp in Edu Local Government Area.

The governor added: “The people in charge before should have done better. By saying that, I have thrown a challenge to myself and my administration to make things better.” He said he would look at the quick-fixes to make things easier for the corps members such as water and health facilities, adding others would be considered in the next fiscal years.

Vice President Yemi Osinbajo and the newly elected Speaker of the House of Representatives, Femi Gbajabiamila, on Monday held a closed-door meeting at the Presidential Villa, Abuja.

Gbajabiamila, who fielded questions from State House correspondents afterwards, promised to carry opposition lawmakers along in committee membership and leadership.

The speaker said that the meeting with the vice president was all about moving the country forward.

The Plateau Specialist Hospital, Jos has handed over the baby stolen from its maternity ward, to the biological parents, after medical and police investigation. Handing over the baby to the parents, the Chief Medical Director, Dr Philemon Golwa, expressed happiness over the recovery of the stolen child from its abductors.

“Today is not a day of mourning; it is a day of celebration of life that was thought to have been lost but now found. When this special baby was stolen from this hospital, I was worried, but with our efforts and that of the Police, God has made it possible for us to celebrate. We had a breakthrough on Thursday with the recovery of the baby from the woman who “technically” snatched her. The woman has confessed to the Police that she actually stole the child," said Dr. Golwa.

Golwa said that genetic testing conducted on both baby and the parents confirmed that the baby biologically belongs to the parents the baby was stolen from. “Paternity test, done through DNA, and the blood groups genotype testing, have all shown that the child belongs to the couple. They are the real parents of the child. Even though the DNA test will be ready in two weeks as we have taken it to another state for confirmation, the testing of the blood group clearly shows that this couple are the baby’s parents.” he said.

Recalls that the baby girl delivered on May 28, by 30-year-old Mary Chukwuebuka, a resident of Zarmaganda, Jos, was stolen from her, three days after birth, May 31, by a woman who dressed and posed as a doctor in the hospital.

According to Mrs Chukwuebuka, the suspect, Mrs. Leritshimwa Diyal, 30, had claimed that she was taking the baby for further tests at the theatre. The suspect had claimed that she was kidnapped hours to her expected time of delivery and had been given birth to a baby girl while in the kidnappers’ custody.
