Poems For Review / Esprit De Curts by akinsjerems: 10:26pm On Dec 09, 2019
(A poem, in the spirit of a collective (mass) asininity)

By: Ngozi Babatola-Ige, phD

Even if the stomach is empty,
Our souls cannot be null and void,
Vague like outcomes of electoral tussles,
Where judicial temples are harbours of miscarriages,
On this ground of solidarity we stand,
Watching, hunting for the enemies of the state,
Our preys are at the National bakery,
Eating day and night without manners our collective inheritance,
We must fight until the resurrection of Giwa,
That those who incarcerated the soul of LovePeddler will be brought to pay at Sahara.

Even if our stomach is empty,
The world must not be hijacked by the children of the evening,
Because freedom, they say, comes from struggles,
We will continue to fight the battles of our existence,
Until the world is at peace with our pockets,
But even if our pockets are at peace with the world,
Shall our sweat and quest for equality be found wanting in wanton prosperity?
An eye for an eye,
Dollar for dollar we will negotiate our way,
So shall the oppressor be sacrificed six feet at bay.

Even if the stomach is empty,
The strength of brotherhood must not fail,
When we proceed in coastals to the coast,
We throw bullets of songs and resistance,
But they fade in the sun like the desire for minimum wage,
Our pockets feed fat on behalf of national solidarity,
Then our resistance degenerates into pleas and pleads,
Until our voices melt in the distance,
In flames and baritones of negotiations,
Where is justice we ask?
For an injustice to one is lack of justice another's wallet,
In the end, the yells and swores of Sahara is left to rot in their hell.
Nairaland / General / Idiots Have No Place In Heaven by akinsjerems: 7:10pm On Dec 07, 2019
By: Ngozi Babatola-Ige (phD)

An adage says that ignorance is not an excuse. In religion, it is another way of saying that when ‘that time’ comes, people will not be vindicated on the basis of ignorance. If this treatment is meted to those who are at least ignorant about the doctrines of Christianity, how much more those who are in the know? Those who knows the truth and decide to deviate from it. Those who for instance knows that the DSS is wrong in its approach but would decide to bring up baseless posts as an excuse. These are the idiots who are aware about the law and the consequences of such actions of the DSS in a saner climes but would chose to write about the generational offences of Yele Sowore which may not be forgiven because it is a sin against their ‘holy Jones.’
It is very disappointing that while the whole wide world is condemning the actions of the DSS, some enlightened members of this generation who would have been direct beneficiaries of the protest (had Sowore’s protest been successful) could come out to indict Sowore on the social media for unpopular offences such as referring to Jonathan as the worst president in the history of the Country. Even one of my Brothers, (a SAN for that matter o) gave the account of another (eyewitness) lawyer whose post suggested that the drama might have been staged-managed by Sowore himself. So, even if Sowore staged-managed the drama, is it right for the DSS to rearrest him, even after the Court has admitted him on bail and adjourned the hearing? They have shown that some of our SANs are just unqualified and that’s the reason why the Executive will continue to suppress, disrespect and victimize the judiciary.
But to say the truth, what are the changes inherent in that statement? Had Buhari been different or exceptional as a President, would he not have exposed Jonathan as incompetent, inept and corrupt? Are we saying that Buhari’s poor performance automatically bestows the status of a saint on Jonathan? Did Jonathan not soil his hands? Look, President Jonathan still has a lot of questions to answer and like the Yorubas will say, we will all meet in heaven where the God of all creatures will judge everyone according to their deeds. Albeit the gravity of their recklessness isn’t the same, the truth is that President Jonathan is as culpable as President Buhari judging from the way “order from above’ pervaded the atmosphere and was used to perpetrate certain iniquities even through the DSS in the days of Jonathan.
I can say authoritatively that had Jonathan been effective as a President, Buhari would not have smelt the position of power. He wasn’t just the right person but was the best candidate among his peers at that time because Jonathan left us with no choice. None of us expected President Buhari to be the ‘antichrist’ that he has become today, with the exception of a few of you who maybe due to sentiments campaigned and voted against him. But that is not even the bone of contention.
The bone of contention has to do with the misplacement of priorities that characterized that drama which happened yesterday. Regardless of the sentiments you share, it is only animals that would chose to direct their attention into making President Jonathan a hero in the midst of the anarchy that pervaded our space yesterday.
Even President Jonathan would be embarrassed himself because this shameful act has gotten the attention of the world.
So, to say that Sowore is reaping from karma is the most stupid statement I have ever heard this year, the other stupid statement being statements released by the DSS for their failure to release Sowore. The originators of the ‘karma’ argument are worse than the present government and the DSS combined and have shown that they could flaunt or disregard the law had they been in control of the government.
They can be harshly compared with the fools in the bible who find no pleasure in understanding but delight in airing their own opinions. Their end would be calamitous for they have no place in heaven.
Politics / Shall We Await The Coming Of Another Messiah?-an Open Letter To Gov. Akeredolu by akinsjerems: 12:58am On Aug 25, 2017
Here is the details of an open letter written to Governor Akeredolu by a concerned Citizen;

HIS EXCELLENCY,
ARAKUNRIN ‘ROTIMI ODUNAYO AKEREDOLU, (SAN)
THE EXECUTIVE GOVERNOR OF ONDO STATE,
GOVERNOR’S OFFICE,
ALAGBAKA, AKURE,
ONDO STATE.
Arakunrin,
SHALL WE AWAIT THE COMING OF ANOTHER MESSIAH?

According to sages, the best time to tie a palm-frond is in the morning, for it easily withers at the appearance of the sun. I say this, Arakunrin, because a lot would rather point out the fact that seven months is not enough to measure or determine the path (and the eventual direction) that a government would be steered.

However, for some of us who are critical observers, we could point out the direction to which a government is facing by a rare gift which can be best referred to as intuition. For, to the best of my knowledge, my father predicted the end of Mimiko’s administration barely seven (7) months into his tenure, shortly after the former Governor froze the central account for very flimsy reasons. Arakunrin, the rest is now history.

You should bear in mind Arakunrin, the fact that even though your administration is barely seven (7) months old, just seven months, yet, the civil servants are already groaning right under your nose and may be set for a showdown with you, barring any unforeseen circumstances.

That the treasury was almost blank when you assumed power is quite understandable, and the fact that this Country is in a serious economic situation is yet understandable, but what you make of these situations in the end, in terms of prompt payment of workers’ salaries, provision of basic infrastructures and the management of the scarce resources in such a way that you can be vindicated by posterity stands to be your priority, Arakunrin. Needless to say that in Nigeria we care so much about results such that we take no cognizance of the circumstances surrounding the process.

Should I look at the consequences that may follow the writing of this letter, I may exercise restraint, but to say that I am not one of those many youths that have turned the Governor’s office to a shelter like asylum seekers, all in expectation of political appointments, gives me the confidence with which I am writing this letter to you.

Again Arakunrin, the fact that prior to the election that ushered you into government, some of us were blacklisted and crucified in your name, for your sake and that of your political party, gives me the more effrontery to write this letter to you.

Let me reiterate and reemphasize Arakunrin, the fact that we voted for you not because you are better than the others, but because we had to remove Governor Mimiko and his vestiges from the reins of affairs in Ondo State. And so, some of us even defied calls from our motherland and the accompanying agendas all in a bid to ensure that the ‘right’ people get into position.

Pertinent to say that although I currently reside outside the State, reports reaching me from Ondo State is not in any way encouraging.

Permit me to draw your attention to the fact that the very first error made by President Buhari was the appointment of some individuals based only on political considerations and not merit. In your case sir, it is such that there is for instance the case of nepotism levelled against you in respect of some appointments that you have made so far. This is none of my concern, but for the fact that some of these individuals lack credibility. Some of these people are for instance, offshoots of previous administrations that have plunged this state into the current situation. Arakunrin, nothing can be used to justify the appointment of a Madueke into the ministerial cabinet of the supposed anti-corruption Government of President Muhammadu Buhari. Such is the case in some of the appointments that you made.

It is time, Arakunrin to ignore lamentations and the euphoria that came with your assumption and set out to work in order to deliver the State from the shackles of abject poverty caused by some of your predecessors.

Conclusively, I want to strongly advise that at the end, you should endeavor to let your achievements justify the income accrued to the state in such a way that posterity would justify you.

Like John (the Baptist) asked of Jesus in those days, I may be compelled to again pose the same to you thus; Are you the one who is to come, or should we keep on expecting the coming of another Messiah?

Accept my kind regards.

Yours Sincerely,

ORIMOLOYE IFEOLUWA.

YOUTH CORPERS UNVEILS A NEW LOGO FOR AKWA IBOM STATE

As part of activities marking the 30 years anniversary of Akwa Ibom State, some serving youth corp members recently launched a new logo in commemoration of the event.
According to the Youth Corp members, the launching of the logo is a way of giving back to the society that has accommodated them thus far.
It was gathered that the Youth Corp Members also expressed delight at the rapid development witnessed by the State in the last few years which has heralded a new chapter in their lives and has thus contributed to their success story.
It will be recalled that Akwa Ibom State will clock 30 years on the 23rd day of November, 2017 following her creation from the then Cross River State.
The launching of the new logo is in synchronization with the hashtags #AkwaIbommyfuture and #AkwaIbommysuccessstory which was exclusively created for the anniversary.

Nairaland / General / Matters Arising: Pa Fasoranti’s Resignation by akinsjerems: 11:44am On Nov 04, 2015
Pa Reuben Fasoranti’s resignation as the leader of the pan Yoruba socio-political group –Afenifere- came as a surprise to us, not because of any other reasons, but the fact that modalities and necessary structures were coming underway, to initiate the students’ league of the group. The planned initiation of the Students’ league of the Afenifere group was partly due to Baba Fasoranti’s progressive nature. This was evident in the reaction of Baba Fasoranti as soon as we presented the proposal for the Students league. He had accepted it, and in fact directed us to meet with Basorun Arogbofa.
It is pertinent to say that we have observed the deviation in the ideology of the Afenifere group (the basis for Baba Fasonranti’s resignation) and have however planned to address the issue by making it one of the missions of the students’ league of the pan Yoruba group.
To say the least, some of us have been in doubts for sometime as to the integrity of the group which we have known for years as the mouth piece of the Yoruba nation, having learnt that it consists mainly of elders of the Yoruba land, and was created in the interest of the Yoruba land. We have observed quite wearyingly, the politicization and the factionalization of the group among many other unfortunate developments.
It is on this note that the leadership of the NATIONAL ASSOCIATION OF AKURE STUDENTS want to state that we believe Pa Reuben Fasoranti’s resignation is a well-calculated move, and is the right step in the right direction. As much as we also have the interest of the Yoruba land at heart, we support his move.
However, as long as our concerns about Afenifere stands unattended to, we shall continue to put the current leadership of Afenifere on their toes, as we are bent on restoring the sanctity of the revered afenifere group.

Nairaland / General / Leaked Copy Of A Petition Against Mtn Nigeria by akinsjerems: 9:17pm On Oct 12, 2015
TO WHOM IT MAY CONCERN,

[b]BEFORE ANOTHER HAVOC IS WRECKED, THIS ABSURDITY MUST BE CURBED
I am compelled to write this, not because of any other factor, but sanity. As rather than ‘lead somebody a merry dance” by approaching a court of law in pursuance of justice, like it is being done in countries that are known to possess high moral values and a high resistance to nonsense, I will use my pen to do something constructive…Even as remarkably, we now have a government in Nigeria that aims (at least in words, and in action) to sanitize the country. Also, I shall state quite frankly, that change should not just come downwards in the descending order, but should come even from the roots, upwards, it is then that we can effect change and bring sanity back to our facets of life in Nigeria. And by extension, every sector in the country, including the telecommunications sector which I am about to talk about.
I have heard people talk about the things we condone here in Nigeria, but can never be condoned in any other place in the world. Therefore, at this point in time, WE ARE SAYING ENOUGH IS ENOUGH!
After reporting severally to the customer care consultants, at the employ of MTN NIGERIA, I have deemed it fit to report my complaints directly to the appropriate authorities. With the hope that these “appropriate authorities” are now up-to-the-task. Pertinent to this remark, is the code of conduct bureau and the economics and financial crimes commission, among others, it seem to us all that presently, we now have a trust-worthy kind of a system that will not hesitate to act appropriately to petitions.
As I have no intention to die in silence, I write on behalf of millions of other Nigerians, who are encountering the ‘invasion’ of their mobile phones by service providers. And although nobody is going public about it, I have as a matter of urgency deemed it fit to resist such invasion as maybe initiated by service providers, despite the term that seems used in the form of a veil, vis-à-vis “terms and conditions apply”. Whatever stands to be the position of service providers in relation to terms and conditions, the Nigerian communications commission acts supersedes, because the acts was initiated constitutionally (in line with the provisions of the constitution of the FEDERAL REPUBLIC OF NIGERIA). The rules, functions and objectives of the NIGERIAN COMMUNICATIONS COMMISSION and its acts therefore, supersedes. It has thus been stated in the functions of the NIGERIAN COMMUNICATIONS COMMISSION that they shall stand against UNFAIR TREATMENTS TO SUBSCRIBERS (Emphasis mine). The acts by these service providers can be best described as UNFAIR. That part of the NIGERIAN COMMUNICATIONS COMMISSION’s functions reads;
“THE PROTECTION AND PROMOTION OF THE INTERESTS OF CONSUMERS AGAINST UNFAIR PRACTICES including but not limited to matters relating to tariffs and charges for and the availability and quality of communications services, equipment and facilities”
For clarity, I shall share the message a friend sent to me recently;
“Recently, I was waiting to receive a very important message from fellow entrepreneur. This message was such an important one, one that will suggest if a contract that we have been anticipating will be approved. My business partner prefer to have the response sent as a message, at my instance. I later blamed myself for telling my partner to inform me via the short messaging service, because prior to the text message that will decide our fate, I already had in my inbox varying degrees of promo messages, I got messages almost every second, and it caught my attention almost every moment it was sent. At the end of it all, it almost become a plague, because as soon as I receive yet another message, my heart would beat rapidly as if it wants to fall, only to discover that MTN was at it again, sending messages that doesn’t in anyway concern me. Finally, before the message I was expecting got into my inbox, my phone got switched off due to the fact the battery of my phone got drained from the unsolicited messages from service providers. I wasn’t able to receive the message appropriately, and because of the fluctuation of electricity in Nigeria, I couldn’t get the message on time.”
While, leaving recipients to reflect, I will again state here the story of a friend who, after obtaining a recharge card for the purpose of surfing the internet had to settle for what he obtained, after a deduction was made owing to these contents of a promo message which came in an unusual manner, without giving him a benefit of doubt, the network providers made the necessary deduction for an unsolicited service, at a click of his mobile phone.
And of course, while preparing the draft for this petition, I got again, yet another coincidental call. I had thought it to be an important call until the uniqueness of the number caught my attention. The number “4100” gave an unsolicited information about MTN products and services. What do we have to say about those with health problems that can get it complicated by all of these promo messages, especially at a rather ill-time?
All that I have explained above is asides the aftermath of the streams and strings of unsolicited promo messages that invades the phone of Nigerians (and various related experiences) every day from network providers. It shall can be concluded therefore, that;
1. Promo messages should not be sent in such a disturbing manner as observed in the actions of Nigerian network providers.
2. It should rather be optional, such that one can unsubscribe or be exempted from such understandably fake offers, as opposed to the imposition method that is adopted by service providers in Nigeria.
3. These (streams of) promo messages should not aim to “make somebody’s life hell” like a spell.
4. Any telecommunication company that violates acts as listed (in 1, 2, 3) has disrespected their subscriber, and thus treated them UNFAIRLY considering especially the response of the telecommunications company to such complaints, whenever their services is being sought as to the deactivation of promo messages and other inadequacies.
5. The term “ABUSE” and ‘UNFAIRNESS” should be the best interpretation to acts by telecommunications companies which falls under category (4) above.
6. Any company that abuses the respect of its subscriber (especially a considerable majority) and treats its subscriber unfairly should be discredited and sanctioned appropriately, according to the rules by the telecommunications regulatory commission (NCC).
It can be thus said that telecommunication companies in Nigeria (especially MTN NIGERIA), does not comply with these factors and must be sanctioned appropriately, before a havoc is wrecked. This petition is therefore intended as a signal to appropriate authority, as a court case shall be instituted if the service providers still decides after this petition to avoid compliance, especially with those contained in this petition. These promo messages are constituting nuisance and should be put at halt immediately. NCC and appropriate authorities should, as a matter of urgency look into all these things before [affected] Nigerians will start fighting for themselves, lawfully. Other issues involving tariffs and illegal deductions should be investigated and comprehensively looked into.
It should also be noted that I have no intention to soil anyone’s reputation, but to call to order the particular service provider that pertains to me (MTN NIGERIA), after series of fruitless efforts at presenting my case and optioning out of this streams and strings of unsolicited promo messages. I cannot tolerate all these excesses any longer!

Politics / Mimiko At 61; A Veteran Of Many Wars by akinsjerems: 8:02am On Oct 02, 2015
AS he turns 61 tomorrow, 3 October, 2015, a book on Governor OlusegunMimiko’s life so far would read like the memoirs of a gallant General. It is replete with victories attained on political war fronts. Perhaps a vision of uncommon challenges ahead of him informed his being armed at birth with the names Olusegun and Abayomi, Yoruba names signifying “Godgiven victory to shame ill will”.nn
And true to his ‘Iroko’ sobriquet, Mimiko’s political profile has grown steadily, reaching sturdy proportions in the Nigerian political context. The physician- turned-politician has seen it all, courtesy of political tutelage through experiences garnered over 30 years with a beginning that can be traced back to his days at the University of Ife, his earliest launching pad in the 1970s.
Back then, he was a member of the Pan-African and Socialist Student Organisation, the “WantuWazuri” and the Nigerian Young Socialist Movement, holding sway as the Public Relations Officer. Emerging from the university a medical doctor with ideological leanings imbued with strong socialist tenets, Mimiko’s appetite for attending ...

Nairaland / General / The Essence Of #birthdays: The Need For Self-realization By Orimoloye, Ifeoluwa by akinsjerems: 3:33pm On Jul 10, 2015
THE ESSENCE OF #BIRTHDAYS: THE NEED FOR SELF-REALIZATION
Being a commemorative piece written by #ogbenihimself

…And so, my growth witnessed some change in orientation and the general attitude towards life, such that a transformation was witnessed by myself. Now l that cherish more of a reflective birthday that can bring about a deeper thought on how to go about touching more lives than I can think of. This is more of the reason why I have resolved to get this piece written.

For me, today marks the beginning of another year, and it must be said that invariably the countdown had begun. With all gazes fixed at the celebrant, I am assured of a wider audience that is capable of spreading this ‘gospel’ at a go, albeit I am going to write without that kid glove that is expected of the day. Away from criticism and poetic gestures, it is just myself wishing to present my birthday wishes. Therefore, it gives me a great pleasure to write this piece as a commemoration of my birthday simply because, just like every new year, there is also a need to go about the birthday resolution, which should, from my perspective be brought about by chains of deep, critical and progressive thinking. I will not go against the culture of birthday festivities, but I think there is more explanation to the way a birthday should be celebrated than it meets the eye.
What am I driving at?
Like marketers in bigger corporations with a defined, well spelt out targets, human creatures are born with a specific purpose and mission. There are like a target or a mandate that must be met. The mission varies with individuals, but not without obstacles, which comes in form of a distraction. Without doubt, it takes some people a lot of time before they realize essentially what their mission is, whilst very unfortunately, it takes some other individuals their lifetime before they understand what the essence of their birth implies. The implication is that, a situation could arise whereby the lack of realization of someone’s mission might leads others, or multitude astray, because like a chain, we are all connected imaginarily, one way or the other.
Therefore, I think celebration of birthdays should leave the stage of being irregular to being purposeful, from the stage of vagueness to vast understanding, from the stage of ignorance to self-realization. That explains why amongst other things individuals are expected to grow wiser with respect to increase in age. Perhaps, it is expected that an increase in age should bring about a lot of reasoning cum reflections that will bring about an advancement not just in the area of intellectual abilities but an all-round maturity in one’s self.
If births are linked to the purpose of an existence, then I believe that birthdays should be thought of as a ‘period’ in which one is expected to reflect on his purpose or mission on earth. At that, I am compelled to say after deeper reflections, which this day has afforded me, that out of our very many individual missions, one mission is common to every mankind, and that is the ability to impact on each other’s life, positively. From a biblical perspective, of the very many missions that Jesus Christ achieved or fulfilled here on earth, one is peculiar. That mission is the one of the very many missions that is common to every human creature. It must be said that Jesus Christ came to this world to make an impact on all of us, and it is expected that we continue in that trend. Therefore, we can say deductively, that birthdays should better be observed as a day, wherein we are meant to reflect on our mission, especially on the numbers of life we have impacted positively, and revisiting whilst putting finishing touches to the plans to impact on more lives.
Therefore, what other things can I ask for on this occasion of my birthday than atemporal provisions that will increase my consciousness towards charity, so as to reach out to more lives and put more smiles on people’s faces.
On this note, I want to wish myself, my kid brother who happens to be a birthday mate – ORIMOLOYE, Nifemi, Otubelu IJ, ‘chief kongi’ and other July ‘missionists’ (or explorers) a happy birthday celebration. To well-wishers, I want to thank you for celebrating the significance of the day with me.

Politics / My Plight, The Reality About Naoss by akinsjerems: 9:40pm On Jul 08, 2015
MY PLIGHT, THE REALITY ABOUT NAOSS
Directly from the table of the President National Association of Ondo State Students (FUTA Chapter), Sen. Com Onigbajumo Daniel Praise.
Greatest NAOSSites, indeed well-wishers of the association and concerned leaders of Ondo state at large, this press release and previous ones from my noble office are not aimed at defaming anybody’s personality nor to expose anyone to hatred, contempt or ridicule nor to damage any person reputation but to state my grievances concerning the association of which I am a member and a Senator representing the interest of my local chapter. On this note I plead to the general public to see into my plight understanding my claims for a better NAOSS.
The National Association of Ondo State Students have been a syndicate of dynamic, idealistic, vibrant and cultured student leaders. This is an association that history gives remark to as a body rubbing shoulders with the National Association of Nigerian students (NANS) in the race of engendering productive political leaders. The landmark of giant strides of this vast indigenous association have produced recognized personalities into various top political functionaries of Ondo state and Nigeria at large. NAOSS have also served as alma mater to members of the State House of Assembly, SSA(s) to the Governor on key administrative functions with distinct and unique mode of leadership. Thus, it saddens my heart to witness a body of intellectual leaders being carved into a household of autocracy devoid of democratic values, where representatives from diverse institutions are not allowed to perform their constitutional right and to speak the interest of their respective chapters. “How long will NAOSS continue with factions of leadership?, How long are we going to have multiple sailors in one ship?, How long are we going to remain subject to multiple masters?”. My utmost fear is that the effort of our past leaders might be thrown into trash cans void of leadership exploit if we continue like this. I fear for the days when an average Ondo state student can no longer boast of a NAOSS that is Open to all, Representative in structure, United in Purpose and Confident in spirit. As a progressive senator of this association, I believe the era of multiple leadership in NAOSS is gone and should remain a bye gone. Therefore, I urge the state government, all leaders and amiable stake holders of this association, progress minded senators and indeed ever courageous NAOSSite to please come together as one not undermining the interest or influence of any person in this association. I beg on every personality involved or saddled with the responsibility of ensuring the sustainability of a better NAOSS to please reunite in purpose so that we can build a NAOSS that is confident in spirit for those coming after us. On this note I propose a reconsideration of the whole electioneering process so that distinguished Senators of this great association can have a clear conscience towards each other, performing their duties with all sincerity of heart and sense of belonging. I so much believe in the adjudication of the conscience and posterity because what we do today is a picture of what tomorrow holds for those coming after us.
Yours-in-the Course of a redefined NAOSS,

Politics / Pandemonium As Ondo State Students Election Ended In Chaos, by akinsjerems: 6:57pm On Jul 05, 2015
PANDEMONIUM AS ONDO STATE STUDENTS ELECTION ENDED IN CHAOS, ONDO STATE GOVERNMENT 'ANOINTED' CANDIDATES CLINCHES POSITIONS
Information reaching us suggests that the election of the national body of the national association of ondo state students might have ended in chaos as members of the anti-cultism squad, Nigeria military and some miscreants were said to have been hired by the state government with a view to use them to impose their own candidate. This was contained in a statement by one of the senators who was said to have been eligible to vote but was not allowed to exercise his franchise. Witnesses who spoke on condition of anonymity emphasized that the state government became keenly interested in the election as a result of preparations for the forthcoming gubernatorial elections in Ondo state. The state government was said to have vested authority on a former stakeholder of the association who is currently a member of the Ondo state house of assembly.
Our correspondent gathered that at a point when the election was being observed as characterized by manipulations, the chairman of the electoral committee of the election sought to postpone the election by declaring it inconclusive. In a bid by the electorates to recover and destroy the ballot box from security operatives that were perceived to be taking sides with the government, the enforcement agents started shooting sporadically into the air, to scare the electorates. But at a point in time, they were said to have shot aimlessly. The obviously humiliated electorates scampered to safety, and after minutes, they gathered once again at the venue to observe what was happening, and to their dismay, they discovered that the election was being conducted in the absence of legitimate electorates. It should be stated at this point that our correspondent was caught in the scenario and was forced to scamper alongside some other journalists, thus, following the ethics of ‘safety first’
Another statement made available by a source close to the state government suggests that the house of assembly member was sent to the election to regulate the affairs of the election, in a bid to ensure that the state government’s commitment to the ‘one man, one vote was ensured’. The source who pleaded anonymity confirmed that the men of the anti-cultism squad was forced to scare away hoodlums and disgruntled elements who wanted to cart away with the ballot box. ‘They didn’t shoot at any of the students, they shots upwards to scare away the hoodlums, they had to do that so as to ensure that the mandate of the students is kept safe, the man in question is an individual that has respect for human dignity’ the source emphasized.
There seemed to be a drastic turn in the event as some members of the association besieged the premises of a radio station located in Akure, chanting ‘solidarity songs’ in a bid to demand justice and outright cancellation of the election that was conducted in a school at Oba-Ile in Akure north local government area of the state. In his words, a leader of the group said, ‘what happened is a slap on Nigerian students and against ondo state students. The ondo state government have forced enforced their people against the interest of the masses and Nigerian students. The Nigerian police and the men of the anti-cultism squad shots at the Nigerian students.’ ‘What transpired today is a different case, it was a case of god-fatherism and nepotism. The legitimate senators were not allowed to exercise their civic rights.’ Another student said. In a statement made available to us, by students under the aegis of Ondo state students liberators, headed by the representative of FUTA chapter of the association, the students condemned the incidence and then declared their candidate, Comrade Ebiwonjumi Humphrey as the elected president of the association. They were also said to have termed the election that was conducted at the school at oba-ile as that of the ‘government house’ executives of NAOSS.
However, the state police public relations officer was said to have distanced the Nigerian police force from the incident with a promise to report back as soon as he is briefed on the development.
