LAGOS computer village is the Information Communication Technology (ICT) hub of Nigeria, arguably, West Africa. It is located in the heart of Ikeja, the capital of Lagos State and about 3.8km to the governor’s office. Its closeness to the seat of power notwithstanding, the magnitude of crime committed there daily is unimmaginable. Hardly would a day pass and one would not see someone falling victim of market hoodlums. It has become normal to see somebody shedding tears on streets of the market. If the person is asked, his or her story will not be different from that of a victim of armed robbery or a con man. One of the victim, Wale who was sold a fake HP laptop by SAMAZU TECHNOLOGY LTD, an Igbo boy in a shop located at 32 Obafemi Awolowo Way, Opposite Awolowo Glass House, Suit 29, Chief Jimoh Oruku Complex, Ikeja, Lagos got home to discovered that he has been duped by the Igbo man. All efforts to return the said laptop proof abortive as the man has been avoiding the so called showshop and refused to pick all phone calls put across to him. Even sellers that have shop now scam in computer village using the shop as a showshop for innocent people to believe they sell good items. Example of such is the Igbo man. Finding shows that the Igbo man issued a receipt in order to convince the victim. The general public should be very careful while dealing with people must especially those that also have shop. |
The Court of Appeal sitting in Akure, Ondo State capital on Tuesday, February 1, affirmed the decision of the National Industrial Court (NIC), which recalled 12 sacked personnel of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC). Delivering judgment on Tuesday, the Judge struck out the appeal filed by the corps challenging the decision of the lower court. A three-man panel upheld the respondents’ request and dismissed the appeal for lack of diligent prosecution. The trial court ordered NSCDC to return the employment letters to the affected person and pay all arrears of their salaries. The lost appeal was filed by NSCDC against the judgment by the National Industrial Court (NIC), reinstating 12 of its personnel who were wrongly dismissed. NIC had, in a judgment on November 17, 2017, ordered the NSCDC to reinstate the sacked staff with their full emoluments from the time they were illegally dismissed. The court restrained the NSCDC from further tampering with the employment of the affected personnel. Dissatisfied with the judgment, the NSCDC, and Immigration and Prisons Service Board (who were respondents at the NIC) appealed the judgment but failed to diligently prosecute it. Newsflash Nigeria recalls that Ajisafe Adelaja and 11 others had sued the then Commandant-General, NSCDC, alleging unlawful termination of their employment. They prayed the court to declare that the verbal and oral suspension of the claimants by the NSCDC was null, void and of no effect. The claimants also sought an order directing the defendants to recall all the claimants to work and to also release the original copies of their letters of employment to them. They also asked for an order of the court directing the defendants to immediately pay them all arrears of salaries from 2012 till date. Speaking to Newsflash Nigeria after the court session, Opeyemi V Ogunremi, Counsel to the respondents expressed delight on the outcome of the case, adding that his clients had been exposed to hardship since 2012 when they were unlawfully sacked. He, therefore, urged President Muhammadu Buhari to impress it on the Commandant-General of the corps to without delay affect the decision of the apex court. Newsflash Nigeria further reports that the 12 personnel of the corps who were from Ekiti State command were seen dancing and thanking God for their legal victory in the premises of the court. https://newsflashuk.com/appeal-court-affirms-recall-of-17-nscdc-personnel-from-ekiti/

THE Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board yesterday explained why it has not released the results of this year’s Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME). Some of the candidates engaged in massive fraud and impersonation, thus putting their results in doubt, the board said. JAMB’s Head of Information Dr. Fabian Benjamin told reporters in Abuja yesterday that the board has started screening the results of all the candidates who wrote the examination and that it would release it as soon as it the process is concluded. Benjamin said: “We will not release the results in a hurry. We will do a lot of crosschecking and matchmaking to be sure that nobody that was engaged in illicit act will go scot free. “We will release the results as soon as we finish checking the results to ensure that all those ones that we caught in various illicit registration acts are properly dealt with and those that we could not arrest are withheld. “We will release the results when we finish doing our screening. We are screening the whole results. We don’t have the numbers now but we won’t release any result until we are sure of the whole thing.” Benjamin said the board has arrested over 100 persons for impersonation and other fraudulent practices during the examination. According to him, the board would fish out anyone who was engaged in sharp practices during the examination through their results and withhold them. An Akure-based legal practitioner, Mr Morakinyo Ogele, has dragged the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps to court over the death of a suspect, Razak Ahmed, in the custody of the Ondo State Command of the corps. Ahmed was arrested last month by the personnel of the NSCDC in the state for allegedly having incestuous affair with one of his daughters. But the suspect reportedly died in the custody of the corps in Akure. The family alleged that he was tortured to death by officers of the command while trying to extract confessional statements from him. However, the command denied the family’s allegation, saying the suspect committed suicide while in its custody. Following the incident, Ogele approached the state High Court in Akure on behalf of the family to seek justice. The Indigenous People of Biafra on Sunday said its leader, Nnamdi Kanu would expose more about the nationality of the presidential candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party, Atiku Abubakar. It also insisted that the person occupying the seat of Nigeria’s president was not the “real” President Muhammadu Buhari. The All Progressives Congress had told the Presidential Elections Tribunal last week that Atiku was a citizen of Cameroon and therefore was not qualified to contest any election in Nigeria. IPOB, in a statement made available to our correspondent in Awka, Anambra State by its Media and Publicity Secretary, Emma Powerful, said its leader would soon exposé more on the two issues in a broadcast. The group said, “To drive home this message, our leader, Mazi Nnamdi Kanu, will deliver a special address on Radio Biafra for yet another expose on the fraud called Nigeria and further clarification on the thorny issue of Atiku’s nationality.” Details here...... https://www.ledonng.com/2019/04/15/buhariatiku-nnamdi-kanu-ready-to-expose-more-on-jubril-citizenship-ipob/
