ELDER OKON HARPS ON UNITY AT LOGMA AWARDS ...named among best performing Chairmen in Nigeria. Nigerians have been advised to tolerate one another to enhance peace, unity and development. The Chairman of Uyo local government area, Elder Imo Okon gave the advice, Thursday, while speaking with newsmen shortly after receiving the 2018 Nigerian local government chairmen merit award at the ceremony held at the Merit house, Maitama, Abuja. The chairman cited the need for linear co-existence as a fundamental and essential factor for growth, stability and the social well being of the nation. He said that LOGMA consistency in recognising grassroot government is a testament, and a typical example of a people who have decided to foster unity and peace by painstakingly combing the length and breath of the nation to follow what head of council administration are doing to grow the Nigerian state. He further added that his administration will continue to work harder to stay in shape, and spawn dividends of democracy to the people at the grassroot. The erstwhile State Vice Chairman of Uyo senatorial district of the Peoples Democratic Party also extol LOGMA for hosting the award for a record 17th time, noting that they have play a crucial role in challenging government the local level to stay on their feet and work assiduously towards the actualization of peace and development. He maintained that the award will spur him to work harder even beyond his stay in the Council. Speaking earlier, the National coordinator of LOGMA, Prince Bayode Ojo, congratulated all the awardees for scaling the rigorous process, and all the criteria that were used in selecting recipients. He said that the name of all the nominees were published in national daily, and where chosen through public zool. He however said that the organisation have had to weather the financial storms that come with the staging of the ceremony, and therefore, called on all well meaning Nigerians to lend their support, especially now, that they are planning for second Batch of the awards by November. Highlights of the event were presentation of certificate to recipients, unity dance and donations of funds for the organisation. Present at the ceremony were selected chairmen of local government areas across Nigeria, serving council members, councillors, captain of industries, the political class, journalist, traditional and religious fathers. That Mischievous Video About Demolition of Structures at Etinan PRESS RELEASE: The attention of the Honourable Commissioner for Works, Mr Ephraim Inyang-eyen has been drawn to a mischievous video circulating on the social media, relating to an incident in Etinan, during the routine supervision of demolition and construction work of the ongoing 19.8km Uyo - Etinan Road at the Etinan roundabout. Ordinarily, the ministry would have ignored the video and the misinterpretations of the purveyors whose intent is to blackmail and smear government's good intentions of not only developing Akwa Ibom State, but safeguarding the overriding public interest and welfare of our citizens. In a bid not to allow the gullible public to be swayed by the falsehood peddled by detractors using the video, we wish to put the records straight and state the following facts : 1. That the ongoing demolition of structures have become inevitable to prevent the menace of flash flood and the attendant hazards it posses to lives and property with particular reference to Etinan round about where construction is at advanced stages. The property in contention, a dilapidated storey building which was unoccupied as at the material time, situates at Etinan round about, and belonging to the Late Mr Ekanem was marked for demolition after proper evaluation by Valuers and compensation earmarked for the owner. 2. That on Monday, the 17th of September, 2018, the widow of Mr Ekanem, Mrs Juliana Ekanem had agreed to pick up her cheques with the ministry which were ready since 10th September with a firm oral agreement that the building will be taken down on Wednesday, 19th September, 2018, to urgently arrest further damage and threat from the flood in the area, which she gladly obliged to. 3. It was therefore shocking, and to our consternation to observe that on the said day of demolition, and after which the Honourable Commissioner called to informed her of the ongoing demolition, that the said Mrs Juliana Ekanem, showed up and harassed the Ministry officials in an attempt to resist demolition of the property. It must be noted that, the Honourable Commissioner for Works, Mr Ephraim Inyang-eyen, who was taken aback by the provocative action maintained his cool and instructed the security men attached to the team to exercise restraint even in the face of extreme provocation. 4. The ministry wishes to state that she remains irrevocably committed to the delivery of His Excellency, Governor Udom Emmanuel's vision on road infrastructure and will NOT be deterred by the antics of mischief makers. 5. In doing this, we also wish to appeal to the good people of Akwa Ibom State for their kind understanding knowing that for good roads to be constructed, some sacrifices must be made for the greater good of the society as one cannot make omelette without breaking eggs. 6. We continue to assure the people that adequate compensation will always be paid for structures that have to give way for the overriding public interest as the Udom Emmanuel led administration is people-oriented and will NOT condone or abate actions that will not augur well for the welfare of the people whose Mandate he holds in trust. 7. We therefore appeal to the people to ignore the campaign of calumny mounted by few individuals who wish to make cheap capital in this political season out of the minor incident in question as we remain focused in delivering democracy dividends and campaign pledges of Governor Udom Emmanuel. Signed: Elder Effiong Essien. Permanent Secretary.

AKWA IBOM APC EXCO LIST SPLITS PARTY ***As Chairman insist list is authentic, Secretary disagree - TOROBONG EKPO The Esit Eket Chapter Chairman of All Progressive Congress (APC), Mr. Sunday Edoho had stated that if care is not properly taken the internal crises within Akwa Ibom State Chapter of All Progressive Congress may generate to a dangerous point where bloodbath and parallel primaries will be inevitable noting that the published list which was earlier endorsed by Mr. Ini Okopido was alien to Real-APC and other bonafide members of the party in the State. Edoho who stated this shortly after Barr. Dan Abia (Snr) presented his APC Governorship nomination form to fans and supporters maintained that during the State, Chapter and ward congresses of the party, a gentleman agreement was reached where stakeholders agreed on harmonization of 2014 list and wondered why a certain governorship aspirant doled out 5million naira for publication of fake executive list on local tabloids. The chairman portrayed APC as peaceless political party insisting that personal interest amongst aspirants has overwhelmed that of societal interest thereby making the party to turned to an atomistic society. It would be recalled that on the 6th of September, immediately after the publication on prints was out, Okopido had issued statement authenticating the published list. The released by Mr. Ini Okopido reads in part thus: "The State Working Committee of the All Progressives Congress (APC) wishes to state for the clarification of all that the list of members of the State, Local Government and Ward Executive Committees elected in the recent congresses of the party and published in some state-based newspapers on Wednesday, September 5, 2018, is authentic. "The list was published after authentication by the APC National Working Committee (NWC) and subsequent approval by the State Working Committee (SWC) of the party." Reacting to the claims, Mr. Austin Ekanem, the State Secretary of the APC and a nominee of Senator John James Udoedehe faulted the message and sternly warned Okopido and his sponsors to desist from deceiving the party and public at large else face the wrath of the law. "The attention of the State Working Committee of our great party has been drawn to the statement referenced above purportedly issued by the State Chairman, Mr Ini Okopido authenticating list of party exco in Akwa Ibom State Published during the week by local tabloids without the consent of the party. "The statement which is currently circulating in the media is fabricated and ... should therefore be dismissed. Those behind the statement are hereby warned to desist from it or face stiff actions from the party." The Secretary warned. Ekanem dismissed the list as counterfeit noting that though party congresses had ended months back, the Exco list was yet to be ready until 2014 list is harmonized. "The state working Committee of the party, while managing the situation, wishes to state that the Published list now in circulation in a section of the press is not the authentic list of party executive in the wards and chapters and should accordingly be ignored. "Recall that barely two weeks ago when a joint meeting of caucus was held presided over by Otuekong Don Etiebet, Caucus Chairman, a committee was constituted to continue the harmonisation and ratification of the 2014 executive list as earlier agreed by different interest groups. "The committee has gone far in its responsibility and is yet to present its report and final consensus list. "All party members and supporters of our great party are advised to wait for the official Release of the party executive list as is to be harmonised by the committee soon. "We warn that any further attempt to breach the peace in our great party shall meet stiff sanction by the party disciplinary committee." He maintained. Meanwhile, Chief Edo Inyangette, a stakeholder of the party from Ikot Ekpene Senatorial District, however disagreed with Statement and refuttal credited to Mr. Ini Okopido and Mr. Austin Ekanem respectively, revealing that the authentic State, Chapter and ward executive members of APC were sworn-in at Darty Hotel some months ago. He posited that, with the defection of the state chairman, Hon. Udoma Bob Ekarika, the party was bent on conducting a bye-election so as to fill the vacuum. On why there were discordance tunes within the party, Inyangette revealed that each leader of the party has his own faction preempting multiple primaries within the party in the forthcoming elections across the state. "Just like the children of God suffereth violence and violence took it by force, there will be parallel congresses but the violence shall take it by force. " Which ever primary the NWC will approve, such winner will stand general election. This is not the first time, in 2015 Udoedehe did parallel election but that of Umana Okon Umana was approved by the NWC" he recalled. The founding member of the party however acknowledged Dr. Effiong Etok aka Charles Taylor as the State Secretary of the party and warned the public to keep Austin Ekanem at arm's length. In a petition dated 10th September sent to NWC of the party, the National President Abias' Frontier Movement (AFM)Ifreke Akpabio has urged the national leadership of the party to rescue the State from leadership clashes. "Dr. Etok had on 4th September issued Press Statement as State Secretary of the party, while Austin Ekanem later issued his as same state Secretary on 9th September, thereby making us to be confused if the Akwa Ibom State Chapter of APC is a Banana Republic of sort. "How can we have three state leaders namely; Sen. Godswill Akpabio, Atuekong Don Etiebet and Sen. John James Udoedehe? Two state secretaries; Austin Ekanem and Effiong Etok? Two women leader/mother of APC, Mrs. Unoma Akpabio and Mama APC? " Please we urge the National working committee of APC to come to our rescue and possibly give us a direction" the petition reads in part. Our reporter observes that with the inclusion of Barr. Dan Abia in the APC Governorship Race, the state chapter of the APC was on the verge of dividing into four major and thirteen minor factions. |

NKANGA ON AKPABIO: AKWA IBOM PEOPLE DETEST TRAITORS The failure of Senator Godswill Akpabio to consult his supporters and critical stakeholders in Akwa Ibom State before jumping ship to the All Progressives Congress,APC, accounts for the poor followership he is currently enjoying in the state. Because of the feelings of betrayals and insincerity from Senator Akpabio, most people have deserted him, while Governor Udom Emmanuel's support base in the People Democratic Party PDP, has increased astronomically. Otuekong Idongesit Nkanga, former governor of the state made this observations in a chat with newsmen in Uyo. "When you see people changing back and forth it speaks on their followership; definitely their followership will start dwindling because people will feel betrayed and say ah, didn’t he think about it?" Nkanga, the national chairman of the Pan Niger Delta Forum,PANDEF, umbrella forum for ALL interest groups of the region, maintained that, "I have not come across one person that said he consulted him. I am not too relevant to him but even people that ought to be relevant to him... The only person that I have not asked but I thought is important enough is the wife. I don’t know if he did. I won’t be surprised if he did not even consult with his wife. All the people that I thought were relevant enough, I have asked and they said he did not and that is what is causing people to be angry." So it is disappointing what he did because we thought that he should be more committed to the course of this region. If he was, he would never do what he did. On the claim that Akpabio was going to APC to pursue national interest, the Director General of the Divine Mandate Campaign Organization said, "with due respect I believe he doesn’t understand what national interest means. He doesn’t. If he did he wouldn’t even make a statement like that. He should go to Abuja to pursue national interest. National interest is not something you go and bring from the shelf and say this is national interest." Air Commodore Nkanga expressed dismay at the former senate minority leader's lack of understanding of the need for restructuring in Nigeria. "If you ask him now what is restructuring, he would not know, so also are the people that are carrying this country into ruins. If you don’t understand that and you say you went for national interest, what national interest? It is lack of understanding of what it is. I sympathise with him and with the people that think that way." Otuekong Nkanga extolled the administration of Governor Udom Emmanuel for hisnprompt payment ofnsalaries of workers, infrastructural development and the establishment of new industries in the last three years. "We talk about industrialization- when Godswill Akpabio was here, one of the promises he made was that there would be an industry in each of the 31 Local governments. Did we have even one? And this is somebody that within the short time he had been here he has rehabilitated the paint industry. He brought the syringe factory, the metering industry, the toothpick those are the new industries that have come in." The former Military Governor further explained that the syringe industry alone can sustain the nation's economy. "The requirement for syringe in this country is about six billion and what this one is going to produce is barely four billion, not enough even to satisfy Nigeria." "Those that had left PDP because they were angry, with Akpabio are joyfully coming back. So l see Udom winning his second term very clearly and by that time he will know that it is God that gave him the victory and not any human being," he concluded.

... Calls on Church Leaders to emulate politicians By Enobong Ibanga In what could be termed as "sermon on the mount" the Uyo Council Chairman, Elder (Hon) Imoh Okon has challenged Church Leaders in the country to redefine their lifestyle especially on conflict management and resolution by living a Christ like life and also taking a cue from politicians The Uyo Council Boss made the call today at the opening ceremony of the 9th Biennal National Women's Fellowship Convention of the United Evangelical Church holding in Uyo the Akwa Ibom State Capital. He frowned at the attitude of the Qua Iboe/United Evangelical Church leadership for allowing the lingering tussle in the Church to continue till date without finding solution to it. Elder Okon who served as the chairman of the occasion pleaded with all party involved in the crises rocking the church to sheath their sword and give peace a chance. He said "Take a look at what is currently witnessed in the political status of Akwa Ibom State and Nigeria at large, politicians who disagreed, quarreled, and even fought in 2011 and 2015 are dinning and winning today, then why can't Church Leaders do even better than this, why is it taking so long to resolve a problem that started far back in 2001" "We must all understand that whether it is Qua Iboe Church or United Evangelical Church, it is one and the same thing, founded by God through one single man for the purpose of taking the gospel of Christ to the ends of the world, and therefore, there is no need for division". He appreciated the women for standing firm and being the pillar of the church throughout this long period of trying times, and assured them of his continued support to the Women Fellowship. He announced a personal donation of five Hundred Thousand Naira, and Three Hundred Thousand Naira on behalf of the Uyo Local Government Council.

Akwa Ibom is today full of drama and Akpabio is even fuller of drama, as if he and the state were made for each other and for drama. He will never miss out on the theatre. If he does not meet with the theatre, he would have to invent it. He loves the fight. He dares his opponents. Every political drama must have a climax. If any political scientist is interested in researching the facts that predispose the collapse of political empires, he does not need to go far. Akwa Ibom appear inviting to the hopeful scholar and Akpabio may turn up a treasure throve of remote and immediate causes. "FREEZING OF BENUE & AKWA IBOM STATE GOVERNMENTS' BANK ACCOUNTS IS A SIGN POST THAT NIGERIA IS FAST TRACKING TOWARDS FULL BLOWN TYRANNY & DICTATORSHIP" Young Professionals warn. The Nigerian Young Professionals Forum has warned that with the political undertone trailing the activities of Nigeria's leading anti graft agency, the country could be heading towards a full blown tyranny and dictatorship. The warning is contained in a press statement by the forum in reaction to the news of EFCC's freezing of the official bank accounts of Benue State and Akwa Ibom State after the Benue Governor dumped the ruling APC and the latter's Senator representing Akwa Ibom North West defected to the APC. In the statement issued in Abuja on 8th of August by the forum's Head of Policy & Media, Dignity Ekop and jointly signed by 4 of its officers including the National Convener, Waheed Gambo, the Deputy Convener, Alex Antiaobong, the Secretary, Chidi Iroegbunam and the Head of Research, Dapo Gbadebo, the forum said if allegations that the EFCC is being used as a tool of political witch-hunt and oppression against people and states that disagree with the ruling party and the federal government is true, it portends great danger to democracy and our country's survival adding that such show of brute force and intimidation raises serious questions on the independence and integrity of the agency's intentions and actions. The forum demanded the EFCC to offer immediate public explanation given the fact that the frozen accounts are official accounts of autonomous though federating units of Nigeria describing the action of the EFCC as malicious and unconstitutional. The statement reads in part: "Without prejudice to the powers of investigation generally of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, a dispassionate review of the law and the 'episode' playing out, would clearly show that by the combined effect of Sections 125, 128 and 129 of the 1999 Constitution as amended, Section 34 of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission Establishment Act and Section 18 of the Interpretation Act, the EFCC lacks the requisite powers to freeze any account of the Benue State Government, Akwa Ibom State Government or any state government whatsoever and in any case, assuming without conceding that the Commission has such powers, there's no evidence so far to show that it has any Court Order which is a precondition of law to freezing any bank account generally and this is consistent with the decision of the Court in Dangabar v FRN (2014). That this suspicious and unlawful actions are coming after Governor Samuel Ortom defected from the APC and Senator Akpabio defected to the APC raises more questions than answers. The Federal Government must be reminded that Nigeria as a state party on December 9, 2003 signed and on December 14, 2004 ratified the United Nations Convention Against Corruption (UNCAC) and the obvious lack of independence and frequent interference and control of our anti graft agencies offends the spirit and letters of Article 6 (2) and Article 8 (1), (2) of the Convention and these embarrassing situations go far to undermine our reputation within the global community especially at this juncture of our tortuous history. While we recognise that corruption has far reaching negative impacts that undermine the values of our democracy, development and the rule of law and we lend our support to every genuine effort to fight it, on the other hand, institutional impunity, open partisanship and lack of due process in tackling corruption such as currently being witnessed in our country remains a dangerous signpost that Nigeria is heading towards active dictatorship, tyranny and anarchy. Our law enforcement agencies must be independent and insulate themselves from political interference and control. Nigerians will continue to condemn every inglorious attempt to compromise and politicize our law enforcement agencies by a tyrannical cabal of scorpions desperately trying to sting our country to death to satisfy their atrocious and ungodly political interests. Nigerians have endured enough and today, we are urging politicians to tame their hunger and desperation to perpetuate unrestrained impunity or risk an unexpected populists resistance that may consume them. It is on record that history has never been kind to any architect of tyranny". The statement concluded. |
BREAKING: EFCC freezes Akwa Ibom State Government Accounts Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, (EFCC) has frozen all bank accounts of Akwa Ibom State Government. A source who told our reporter though not authorized to speak on the matter said that "No reason was given; no court order, and that rule of law totally was ignored The source further indicted the former Governor of the state, Senator Godswill Akpabio as the man behind the scene. " It is engineered by Senator Akpabio as part of his plot to cripple the state. It’s the height of wickedness by Senator Akpabio against the common man who voted for and supported him for 8years." he said. Few hours ago, the Senate President, Bukola Saraki had during a World press briefing accused Senator Godswill Akpabio as the man behind the invasion of the National Assembly by men of the Department of State Service. Efforts to speak with the former Senate Minority Leader, proved abortive as the former PDP leader was attending his defection rally in Ikot Ekpene Township Stadium. |

Uyo LG Chair Pledges Succour for Roadside Traders in Metropolis By Paulinus Nnah In line with his administration’s policy to rid Uyo city centre of roadside trading, the executive chairman of Uyo Local Government Area, Elder Imoh Okon, has said that the LGA would soon make provisions for stalls in Akpan Andem Market to be allotted to wayside traders in the Metropolis. Speaking this morning in an AKBC TV live programme, Democracy 45, Elder Okon who also spoke on various issues of national and state import, and raising concern over what he termed as “suppression of the less-privileged in Akpan Andem Market,” explained that such area which accommodates “the entire Nigeria” demands his focus. “One area I want the public to take note is the fact that over a thousand shops have been collected by the so-called well-to-do and people who have people in the corridors of power without putting them to use, thereby preventing the peasant traders from utilizing those shops till date. “As we speak, in March we issued them a 21-day notice, after that we issued seven days’ notice, after which we gave them more two months. As I am talking to you now, from Tuesday next week, all the owners of shops in Akpan Andem Market who have refused to put them to use will have their allotments revoked by Uyo Local Government and reclaim those shops. “The market is our property, and we will allocate them to the peasant traders on the streets who are ready to occupy and put them to use. The traders on Etuk Street, and those on Udo Umana Street who are ready to put the market to full use will be given allotment. A situation whereby the market is turned into a kind of ghost market is unacceptable.” While attributing the peaceful process of selection of the new paramount ruler of Uyo LGA to “the function of goodwill of Uyo people, and also the leadership that we’ve offered,” Imoh Okon roundly lauded stakeholders for not throwing up dissenting opinions during the process, saying “so, that’s a plus.” Highlighting on mentorship which he described as his number one point of empowerment in his blueprint, he hinted that his administration has recruited eighty-two mentors from Uyo LGA, and that the local government authorities are in the process of inviting all the mentees at various levels; beginning from those in primaries five and six, and above. “We want to now group them section by section, field by field, and attach them to their various mentors so that they will be able to do well,” he noted. The Uyo LGC boss further informed that his administration has improved tremendously on staff welfare, adding that it also provides a cordial working atmosphere for all. He also pointed out that the council was doing its best to aid in the payment of school fees for students in tertiary institutions, while promising to give students of Uyo decent who are in higher institutions their pride of place by paying up their bursaries before the year runs out.

UYO LOCAL GOVERNMENT PARTNERS CALABAR COMMUNITY FOR SUSTAINABLE DEVELOPMENT In a bid to realize sustainable development goals in the State and beyond, Uyo local government area has taken the initiative of partnering indigenes of Calabar dwelling in the State capital under the umbrella of Calabar Community in Uyo. The partnership was struck when Executive members of the organization paid a courtesy call on the council chairman, Elder Imoh Okon in his office, Wednesday. Elder Okon extolled what he noted to be intrinsic virtues of an Efik person which include obedience to constituted authority, peaceful disposition and co-existence, and promised to leverage on them for the crystallization of sustainable development goals. He further added that his administration is aggressively committed to carrying out programmes that will engulf all communities staying in the metropolis, citing the intervention at Akpan Andem market and Ibom plaza as pointers to that fact. When we came into office last year December, we noticed that people selling at roadsides had encroached on nearly two-third of the road thereby suffocating commuters and disrupting vehicular movement, so, we waded into the situation and today, order has been restored to those areas and that is beneficial, not just to Akwa Ibom people but all communities residing here including Igbos, Yourbas and hausas. In the build up to the 2019 General Elections, the chairman urged them to unite for the single course of returning PDP Government at all levels to power taking cognizance to the party’s practical approach to governance. Speaking Earlier, the president of the group, Mrs. Esther Esin, appreciated Elder Okon for granting their call and pledged their resolve to partner the council economically, socially and politically for the realization of its goals. She ceased the opportunity to thank God for sparing his life during a motor accident; noting that Uyo needs him to finish the good work he has started in the Council. In attendance at the call was the Council Secretary Lady Barr. Stella Udoh, Surpervisior for works, Hon Linus Effiong, Special Adviser on Information, Hon. Mfon Asuquo among others.

On the Compliance Team, the council helmsman who informed that members will commence their duties in full force on August 1, 2018, warned that defaulters who defy payment from January up to September, 2018 would be made to pay penalty as such late payments would not attract financial benefits to the local government authorities for the year 2018. He reiterated the need for full compliance by all concerned to enable his administration to sustain the tempo of the area’s past leaders who ensured that enduring legacies were put in place for the good of posterity, adding that taxes in Uyo as a local government have been reduced to the barest compared to other growing cities in other climes. While appreciating business stakeholders, the chairman of the revenue committee, Hon. 2019: AKHA Consultation Turns Bloody In Nsit Atai ...Police Allegedly Sponsored By Emem Ibanga Kills 2, 3 Cars Burnt As the 2019 elections for State House of Assembly draws near, Nsit Atai Local Government Area of Akwa Ibom State has been thrown into mourning following a bloody consultation leading to two persons being killed by armed policemen allegedly sponsored by the Chairman of Nsit Atai, Miss Emem Ibanga, to terrorise the area. The incident which happened at about 3pm last Saturday was said to be a political show of shame by the council chairman, Miss Ibanga who has been described by many as power drunk and desperate for more powers since she came on board as the chairman of the local government. Trouble started when the Council Secretary, Emem Ibanga's anointed candidate, Mr Nseabasi Udoeyo, went to consult the village heads in Ibedu group of villages for his House of Assembly ambition. Though out of the 11 villages in Ibedu, 8 village heads boycotted the event because of the existing traditional crisis for group headship caused by the council chairman, the other 3 village heads who accepted the consultation misguided Mr Udoeyo. They attempted using Assan Ibedu for the consultation, but was resisted by the youths who told them that it's only party candidates that are usually received at Assan not aspirants. At that point, there was exchange of verbal blows between the council secretary (aspirant), the anti-cultism police that was arranged by the Council Chairman, and the youths who were at the venue for routine cleaning exercise according to eyewitness' account. The eyewitness who pleaded anonymity disclosed that the situation became worse when the council secretary challenged the people that he was coming with government power and security, and that he can do anything he wants to do and nobody can stop him. The council secretary who is alleged to have been handpicked for the House of Assembly race and solely sponsored by Miss Ibanga in her bid to have Nsit Atai in her control where she can command everybody to submission before her. And to avoid a situation of have people challenging whatever she does in the local government. The source further disclosed that the verbal blows turned into a full fight despite the consultation team leaving the Assan Ibedu as the police attempted to arrest one of the youths who wanted to chase Mr Udoeyo out of the area. The fight, according to him, led to the police shooting two persons dead on the spot, claiming to have been instructed by the Council Boss to deal with anybody attempting to disrupt or stop the consultation following a security report of impending crisis in the area if going ahead with the consultation. Those whose lives were cut short in the incident include Mr David Udo Okon from Ikot Asen, and Victor Etim Etim from Ikot Nkpene, and three cars, a Nissan Jeep, Honda End of Discussion, and a Camry car were confirmed destroyed with other valuables. Most of the people who spoke on conditions of anonymity blamed the situation on the overbearing greed for power by the council chairman, and described it as avoidable damage. The people attributed the incident to the desperation for political powers at all cost currently displayed by the Nsit Atai Council Chairman, Miss Emem Ibanga who is alleged mastermind of crisis and other politically motivated killings in the area. Mr Udoeyo's election is said to be funded directly from the council allocation with the understanding that Udoeyo will handover to her in 2023 when it will be the turn of Afaha. This unnecessary quest for political powers by the council chairman, according to the people of the area, has caused a lot of tension and anger in Nsit Atai as they cautioned the chairman to concentrate in delivering on her campaign promises like her colleagues in other local government, and stop killing people to satisfy her desperate political ego. They said that for more than six months in office, Miss Ibanga has not recorded any achievement that can be seen, but all she does is plot day and night on how to destroy other political leaders so she can become the dictator, and ensure that other stakeholders are under her control in Nsit Atai. It has been alleged that Miss Ibanga brought Udoeyo following the disagreement with Mr Sunny Elijah because of 'Mbiam' that Elijah was administering on supporters and the incompetent candidate of Mr Elijah (Ndu David) whom he is supporting for House of Assembly. The disagreement led to Miss Ibanga bringing out her secretary to contest for the State Assembly seat. The people lamented that there is so much division in Nsit Atai since the Chairman came on board, saying that she is the one instigating most problems in the area, and has refused to do anything to bring the people together. According to some indigenes of the area who did not want to be named, the Saturday incident was largely caused by the attitude of the council chairman who has brought pains and anger to the area, hence the people are not happy with anything associated with her.

Nsima Ekere, the APC Frankenstein’s Monster By Ini Etiebet A deep reflection on Mary Shelley’s Frankenstein’s creature draws a pairing inference with the political overture of the Managing Director of the NDDC, Mr. Nsima Ekere, who is said to be desperately gunning for Governorship in Akwa Ibom State under All Progressives Congress, APC. Before attempting a correlation between Mary Shelley’s being with Mr. Nsima, a peep into the existence of Frankenstein Monster will avail a proper perspective on this piece. “I began the creation of a human being” – Victor Frankenstein (Shelley 54). This is a powerful thought from the eponymous character of Mary Shelley’s Frankenstein. Victor Frankenstein was a man from a privileged family who became obsessed with pursuing scientific advancements, and was eventually able to create a living being. While Victor succeeded at creating a living being, he did not succeed at creating a human being. Victor’s creation attempted to humanize himself and became part of society, but ultimately, was unable to do so. The creature attempted to join and be part of the community, but was met with constant and violent rejection. He used his acquired language with expectation of making relations, in order to become a part of the human community. The creature so much desired companionship and did everything possible to be accepted. The monster began to doubt humans as a race, and danced with feelings of 'rage and revenge'. After realising how humans despised him, the creature was more enraged and began showing signs that he can kill. 'For the First time the feelings of revenge and hatred filled my bosom... I bent my mind towards injury and death.' Like most horror stories, Mary Shelley’s wretched monster terrorized and killed his victims with ease. He killed Victor's friend, family members and his creator at last. The story of this Monster, depicts in exactitude the hideous life of Mr. Nsima Ekere. Like the desperate scientist, Victor Frankenstein in Mary Shelley’s book, the APC in Akwa Ibom State, since it evolved, has exhibited desperation in clinching power in the state. As a way of regaining its political stamina after the monumental defeat in the 2015 general elections, the APC created a monster in the person of Nsima Ekere. Like Victor, while the party stakeholders succeeded in creating Nsima, they never knew they succeeded in only creating a living being instead of human being. As Victor did, Mr. Nsima was co-opted into the APC. Everyone thought he was human. His alluring looks cajoled the naysayers and drew all to him. APC thought their Messiah had arrived, they found him a place and he became the boss of them all, issuing out fake contract papers, threatening all who had the whims to challenge him. Like Frankenstein’s Monster, because people suddenly realized that he is a living being not a human being, Nsima has tried learning the APC language and modes of operation just to bridge his identity gap, yet the more he pushes on, the more humans stay aloof of this living being. Despite the beautification processes some members of APC in Akwa Ibom have subjected him to, he has remained a rejected monster in all spheres of the state. From the Ibibio ethnic group where he comes from to Annang, to Oro nation, Nsima Ekere remains a stranger, and rejected foe. Indeed, no reasonable person with right political history of Akwa Ibom State, wants to identify with this APC creature. Few months ago, the people Oro nation did not outrightly disgrace this APC Frankenstein’s Monster, Nsima Ekere, they made him know that his political gimmick of using money to gain relevance can’t work in their land. Nsima Ekere, was not honoured with a chieftaincy title during the coronation of Ahta Oro, held in Oron Local Government of Akwa Ibom State. It was gathered that in a bid to score cheap political points, some APC members chose to decorate the venue of the coronation with APC flags and other party paraphernalia. The overzealous party men and women, extended invitation to Obong Nsima Ekere who eventually came to the occasion dressed in Oro traditional attire with expectant smiles that he was going to be honoured alongside others. The monster was disappointed that he was not given due recognition or traditional title as he was assured by his greedy party men. The guests whom he mobilised to the event were disappointed that the turn of event was not as they were told apriori. When name of honourees were reeled out, Nsima Ekere’s name was missing. Many wondered why he even had to come in the first place when he had not gotten any clearance from the organizers of the event. This is shows how desperation can launch this monster to. Since that shameful outing, the APC Frankenstein’s Monster has remained in desperate moves to recover his bartered image. After the Oro incident, he has tried wooing Uyo Senatorial District stakeholders to give him award or recognition, yet all failed. Many have been bold to tell him that the shortest avenue for Uyo Senatorial District to regain power is to allow Eket Senatorial District complete its tenure at the Hilltop mansion. Meanwhile, report has it that , few APC goons in Abak-5 led by Atuekong Don Etiebet and the former Deputy Speaker, Mr. Uwem Udoma sold a dummy to the desperate monster that Abak-5 can honour the 'MD' as he is now better known. Pieces of information in public domain show that, Nsima Ekere was cajoled into releasing huge sums of money to the duo who organized a shoddy show with hired crowed from Cross River, Beyelsa and Rivers States. Nsima, many learnt was not well pleased as the hired crowd from other states are those who cannot give him the needed votes in Akwa Ibom to launch him into power. Question people keep asking is that, if Nsima Ekere is so good as portrayed by few greedy men of Abak-5, why didn’t the likes of Uwem Udoma, Etiebet, Uyo Nathaniel and others sell Nsima's goodwill to their brothers in Ikot Ekpene Federal Constituency and other parts of the Ikot Ekpene senatorial district for an enlarged reception by Annang people? It goes to show that people are only using the desperate Nsima Ekere to enrich themselves while leaving him to his fate. For the uncountable evils Nsima Ekere committed while in office as the Board Chairman of Ibom Power Company and the Deputy Governor of the State, he will ever remain a rejected monster in Akwa Ibom State. The fear now is that, as Frankenstein’s monster returned to kill his creator and his allies after deep frustration and refusal by humans to integrate the creature into their community, Nsima, after his failure in 2019, may return to kill APC in Akwa Ibom and the very people who are happily misleading him now. His antecedent at revenging his fighters and unforgiving spirit, make him a dreadful creature no reasonable human should stand near. Ini Etiebet writes from Oruk Anam Local Government Area. |

The Council Chairman who inspected the former Uyo Main Motorpark, currently occupied by Jardin Nigeria Limited, said the move was to ascertain the actual state of properties owned by Local Government Area and to also ensure they were utilized for the greater benefit of Uyo people. "From time to time, we need to come and see that these properties exist for the benefit of all. As a new government, we've seen a lot of documentations and agreements, but you need to come physically to inspect what the actual state of the property is. This place is the Uyo Main Motorpark, it's not a new name, just that it wasn't used as a park for obvious reasons. "As a government, we've come in, we've studied the files and we have seen that Jadin as a Company has been using Uyo Main Motorpark, as its operational base. The Council helmsman expressed optimism that the Mall when opened, will provide more job opportunities to Uyo people and urged indigenes of the area to take good advantage of the new business, by applying for the various positions in the Mall. -as Nsima, Okopido withhold Money for Logistics The long awaited All Progressives Congress, APC, national convention in Abuja has turned sour for many party stalwarts who were anxiously awaiting the event, as six contingents from Akwa Ibom State have reportedly collapsed while hundreds are stranded without food and accommodation. Our source who is part of the event said the whole drama started in the State when Nsima Ekere, the State party Chairman Mr. Ini Okopido, and their gang, tried to frustrate those they are not favourably disposed with by sending bad vehicles to convey them to Abuja. It was gathered that, despite the fact that many of the contingents left Akwa Ibom as early as 6am, they got to Abuja 3am because of the poor state of vehicles which spoilt several times on the way. Reports have it that, despite the fact that the party leaders were mandated by the national headquarters to contribute for logistics of all contingents in which Senator Udoedehe, Obong Umana Umana and others willingly contributed heavily to Nsima Ekere and Ini Okopido assigned to take charge of the contingents, the duo have refused to release the money to see to the welfare of party members in Abuja. Our source disclosed that because of stress, lack of food and accommodation, six persons have so far collapsed while many others have turned beggars in Abuja, struggling to feed themselves. It was gathered that, the aim of Nsima Ekere and Okopido’s action is to weaken the support base of their perceived enemies in the party and to frustrate their grab of the party structure. Our source also disclosed that even the media team from the State is also stranded as many regret the treatment meted to them. Efforts to speak with Obong Nsima Ekere and Senator Udoedehe were abortive as they could not be reached.
