2019: USFAG Rallies Support For Gov Emmanuel

A group of Governor’s aides, under the aegis of Uyo Senatorial District Female Aides to the Governor (USFAG), on Thursday, flagged-off an awareness campaign across Uyo Senatorial District, on the need to consolidate the developmental strides of the State Governor, Mr Udom Emmanuel come 2019 and beyond.

According to the organisers, the tour, tagged “Udom The Best, Forget The Rest”, is inspired by the Governor’s leadership quality and developmental strides in the state.

The tour, which took off in Nsit Atai Local Government Area, had in attendance Mrs Lydia Udoh, Coordinator; Lady Abasifreke Hanson, Secretary; Mrs Josephine Bassey, Financial Secretary; and Barr. Christy Edward Akpan, Welfare Officer. They sensitized participants to go out en masse to participate in the ongoing voters’ card registration exercise in order to be able to exercise their franchise come 2019.

Speaking at the occasion, the various women groups commended the Governor for the vigorous pursuit of his industrialization agenda for the state, and unanimously restated their unwavering support for the Governor, saying that he has no contender.

Nairaland / General / 2019: With Tsac In Ikot Akata, Gov. Udom Needs No Campaign In Mkpat Enin – Counc by akstrending(m): 6:27pm On May 14, 2018
…Says Udom’s Love for Mkpat Enin and Personal Integrity is Unfathomable

Aniedi UKOENANG

Governor Udom Emmanuel of Akwa Ibom state has been urged to channel the focus of his second term campaign to other Local Government Areas in the state other than Mkpat Enin Local Government Area, as the people of the Area do not need to be exhorted before voting massively to return the incumbent Governor for a second term come 2019.

This was the position of Executive Chairman of Mkpat Enin LGA, Hon. Ekanem Brown as he reacts to the recent ground breaking ceremony performed by the Governor for the building of Technical Skills Acquisition Centre in the premises of famous Technical College, Ikot Akata in Mkpat Enin LGA.

The Council Boss who described the plan to transform the technical school to a vocational centre of excellence as a promise fulfilled, said that Governor Emmanuel has delivered on all his 2015 campaign promises to Mkpat Enin people, adding that the people are already in high spirit to go out massively and vote for the return of the Governor for a second term in office come 2019.

In his words, “On behalf of the people of Mkpat Enin Local Government Area, I consider it worthy to specially thank and show appreciation to the Executive Governor of Akwa Ibom State, His Excellency, Deacon Udom Gabriel Emmanuel for his unfathomable love for us, as evident in his recent decision to site the NNPC/MPN Technical Skills Acquisition Centre in Technical School, Ikot Akata in Mkpat Enin Local Government Area.

“Those with quick memory could recall that at the climax of the 2015 gubernatorial campaigns, the then Mr. Udom Emmanuel as the PDP flag bearer visited Mkpat Enin for his campaign and was hosted at Mkpat Enin sports stadium.
On that day, many of us were proud of the Governor for his display of deep knowledge of the history, people, events and challenges of Mkpat Enin people. As expected, the Governor made a lot of promises to the people of the area including a pledge to restore the lost glory of Technical Secondary School, Ikot Akata, by transforming it to a skills and innovation centre of international repute.

“Many people must have forgotten such a promise, while those who recall it would easily wave it aside as a political gimmick. But on Wednesday, May 9, 2018, the people of Mkpat Enin were left spell bound as he personally laid the foundation for the NNPC/MPN Technical Skills Acquisition Centre in Ikot Akata, mind you, he would have sited it anywhere.

“With this, the governor has fulfilled all his 2015 campaign promises to Mkpat Enin people, hence he does not need to campaign again here, our people are already in high spirit to vote massively and return him for second term in office come 2019”.

Speaking further, the Council Chairman said that the Governor’s action amounts to what he described as 'immeasurable love for Mkpat Enin people', and opined that the area has never witnessed so much development since its creation.

“Mkpat Enin people have never had it so good since the creation of Akwa Ibom state and the Local Government, under Governor Emmanuel we can boast of so many new roads, a coconut plantation and refinery, Power Substation, numerous appointments and contracts given to our sons and daughters, and of course the Technical Skills Acquisition centre at Ikot Akata, what a love? He wondered.

Nairaland / General / 2018 Workers Day: Ide Owodiong-idemeko Celebrates Udom, A’ibom Workers by akstrending(m): 5:47pm On May 01, 2018
2018 WORKERS DAY: IDE OWODIONG-IDEMEKO CELEBRATES UDOM, A’IBOM WORKERS

As Akwa Ibom workers anxiously look forward to September, where a proposed new National Minimum wage is expected to take effect, Ide Owodiong-Idemeko, an accomplished administrator and lead aspirant to the Uyo Senatorial District seat,  has lauded Governor Udom Emmanuel’s commitment to the payment of Akwa Ibom wokers’ salaries.

Owodiong-Idemeko, who also celebrated workers in Akwa Ibom and Nigeria, emphasized the need for workers to be given living wage instead of minimum wage for a decent life.

The Senate hopeful and National Coordinator of 1001+ Voices, a grassroots democratic movement, who shared his thoughts with newsmen on the 2018 Workers’ Day Celebration, said gone are the days when what the “Labour Union needed was to perfect the act of persuasion and negotiation, challenge employers of labour to ensure that their employees had a living wage. What really determines the quality of life for a worker is not so much the amount of money that is transferred to him but all the other facilities available beyond the world of work.”

He stated that “there is need for us to continue to emphasize the idea of paying workers living and not minimum wage. We must emphasize the need to upgrade our safety and health laws for the worker. We must call for the protection of women and men from sexual harassment in the workplace,” he stressed.

Owodiong-Idemeko, who has been called for a higher responsibility by the people of Uyo Senatorial District, further said,  “Providing general security in the nation that ensures workers can move around freely to do their work without fear of being kidnapped or killed while performing their duties as well as guaranteeing improved welfare for members of our security forces, should be of primary concern to the Nigerian government as we reflect on this year's Workers’ Day Celebration.”

His thought also reflected on a situation “where workers wages will not transform to a decent life as long as the health sector remains hopeless; and lecturers spend more time on strike than in the classroom.”

Owodiong-Idemeko, a pioneer graduate of the University of Uyo, said though “placards can moderate and force governments to have a rethink in some of its actions and inactions, government and governance will always remain the basic medium by which decions are made on who earns what and who gets what, and therefore should not be left in the hands of inexperienced people to run.

He wished all workers in Akwa Ibom and Nigeria in general a happy celebration and charged them to always toe the path of dialogue in expressing their demands.

Nairaland / General / Nothing Is Too Small For Akwa Ibom State And Udom Emmanuel by akstrending(m): 8:02am On Apr 23, 2018
Aniekeme Finbarr

From 1st October 1979 to 31 December, 1983, Sam Onunaka Mbakwe was Governor of Imo State (what is today, Imo, Abia and Ebonyi States). History validates him as one of the greatest leaders to emerge from the Eastern part of Nigeria. The name Mbakwe is synonymous with charisma, performance and activism, so much that the press nicknamed him, “the weeping Governor” for consistently arguing against the neglect of his state by the Federal Government. He was always advocating for his people.  Mbakwe without a doubt made fine imprints in his time building several roads, industries, a state owned university, etc. The Imo Modern Poultry Complex, Avutu, the Alumunium Smelter Company, Inyishi, the Amaraku Power Station, Imo state University and Progress Bank are some of his legacy projects.

One of Mbakwe’s most daring moves in office as Governor was to build an airport from communal efforts. It was a bold attempt that drew a fair share of praise and lashes. Mbakwe solicited funds from everyone and everywhere and at all occasions he never failed to add the phrase, “Nothing is too small for Imo Airport”. Mbakwe encouraged everyone to contribute his or her quota to the airport project, after all, “nothing is too small for Imo Airport”. The phrase was very popular in the 1980s, everyone used it frequently to solicit money from friends, “Guy, find me transport, anything you have at all, nothing is too small for Imo Airport”.

Like Mbakwe’s Imo State, Akwa Ibom State is currently building on many fronts. From agriculture to infrastructure, sports, health, industrialization, rural development and education. Every sector is receiving a fair share of projects and attention to make life meaningful for the teeming populace and I tell you, nothing is too small for Akwa Ibom’s development. Under the leadership of Governor Udom Emmanuel, there is a renewed spirit of communality, political inclusion, unity, cohesion and oneness. The Governor invites every son and daughter of the state to rise to the faith of their inherent potentials.

Nothing is too small for every citizen to contribute to make Akwa Ibom an enviable state. We must together be self-appointed promoters of the Akwa Ibom brand. The rest of the world should read of positive tidings from the state. We can tell the rest of the world that Akwa Ibom State is beautiful, peaceful and green. We can tell the world that we have abundant natural and human resources, a 7,081 SQ of arable land, waters and one of the most intelligent set of people in the country. Nothing is too small if we tell the world of our moderate climate, our beautiful ecological landscape endowed with a wide variety of agricultural, petroleum, mineral, marine and wildlife opportunities.

Nothing is too small if we tell the world that Statistics shows that Akwa Ibom is second on the table of the few states in Nigeria that attract foreign investors. The industrialization agenda is blooming with the Jubilee Syringe Manufacturing Factory, the largest on the continent and the Metering Solutions Factory both commissioned and running.

Jubilee Syringe Factory was Commissioned by Vice President Yemi Osinbajo on September 23,2017 produces One million syringes daily. The syringe Factory currently employs 70 Akwa Ibom people, who were trained in Turkey with just five experts working there. Currently, more Akwa Ibom youths are abroad undergoing training and will return to boost the manpower needs of the company, as the factory looks to expand in future. Amazed by this development, Vice President Osinbajo, who is of the APC said Governor Udom Emmanuel is a clever Governor.

Nothing is too small if we tell the world that Akwa Ibom state is a new destination for sports in Nigeria. We can tell the world that Governor Udom Emmanuel is working and achieving so much success in developing our sports sector in less than three years. Akwa United football Club, for the first time in over twenty years of her existence was inspired to fourth position on the National League table under the Udom Emmanuel led administration. Akwa United played her maiden international tournament, the CAF Confederations Cup following the Dakkada philosophy the new management of the club put together by Governor Udom Emmanuel imbibed. Akwa United won her first ever major trophy in 2016 after Governor Udom Emmanuel repositioned the club carting away the FA Cup. Akwa United made history by winning the maiden Aiteo Cup in 2017 is currently playing Continental football this year 2018 at the well maintained Godswill Akpabio international stadium. The yearly  Akwa Ibom Youths Sports  Festival where all primary and Secondary schools students participate is a window for talents to be discovered and nourished for exploits.

Eket Stadium is currently under construction in fulfillment of Governor Emmanuel's campaign pledge. The artificial Turf and all modern fittings needed to build the Eket Stadium and revamp the Uyo Township Stadium have been delivered and received by the State government. Governor Emmanuel has built a sports complex at West Itam Secondary school opposite the NNPC Mega station along Uyo Ikot Ekpene Road. 9 more to go. The female team of Akwa Ibom State, Ibom Angels made it to the FA Cup final and finished second, which is tremendous improvement on her past records.

Nothing is too small if we tell our friends that Akwa Ibom State can boast of one of the best road networks in the country. Governor Udom Emmaniel is currently undertaking the construction of over 50  roads in the Uyo metropolis and environs. Akpaube Close, Akpa Ube Lane off IBB Avenue, Ekperi Close by Akpaube, Idak Ukpa Street, off Aka Etinan Road, Afaha Atai village crescent road, in lbesikpo Asutan Local Government Area, Vision close in Nsukara Offot, Udotong Ubo Lane, Akparen Street, Nung Atai Street leading to Christian Secondary Commercial School, Ibiono Lane, Unit D line in Ewet Housing Estate, Ediye Samuel Street, off Edet Akpan Avenue, 12.Akpan Ndem Street by Ewet Housing Estate, Unit G Line in Ewet Housing Estate, Eden Udo Close, roads around Atan Offot from Aka Etinan to the back of the State Secretariat and another spur to Goodluck Jonathan Boulevard, Ring roads 2 now wear a new look.

Information Drive was completed and commissioned, Cornelia Corneli College Uyo were constructed and commissioned, the Nsikak Eduok Avenue by Oron road, Edet Akpan Avenue intersection flooding has been conquered as Governor Udom Emmanuel completed an underground tunnel from Edet Akpan Avenue through Udo Udoma Avenue linking it to the Tropicana drainage, down into Obot idim Ibesikpo stream as the outfall. The construction of the 3.5km Ring Road 2 project is also ongoing extending from the dead end of Udo Udoma Avenue across Aka community through Afaha Offot to link up Abak Road. You all know that road and nothing is too small if we tell others about it.

Nothing is too small if can at least acknowledge the several road projects Governor Udom Emmanuel is constructing to open up the state. The 4.6km School of Arts and Science Road Nung Ukim Ikono has been completed with side drains and is ready for commissioning. The Gully Erosion that threatened to completely destroy the major access road linking Ikono and Ini has been arrested by the Udom Emmanuel administration. The 19.3km Anua Mbak Ishiet road in Uruan traversing 7 villages including, Anua, Ifa Ikot Okpon, Mbak, Ikot Otoinye, Ekim Enen, Adadia, and Ishiet is progressing and the 4.0km Mbiatok - Ekritam - Mbiaya Uruan road, criss crossing Ita Uruan, Ikpa and Mbiakong villages is steadily advancing.

The 8.5km Nduetong - Oku Ibiaku Uruan - Ekritam road with spur to Ini Uruan, that passes through the Uyo City Polytechnic to Planet FM 101. 1 premises is in the works, valuation of property that will be affected by the road is ongoing and sorting this out to enable compensation payment to owners will eventually get the project on course. Development is not a tea party. No Governor in the current class can stand shoulder-to - shoulder with Governor Udom Emmanuel for roads constructed amidst the terrible economic recession Nigeria is enmeshed in. Governor Emmanuel's administration is currently building five dualized roads to completely link up the entire State.

Nothing is too small if we tell the world that the dual carriage  20km Ekom Iman - Etinan road traversing Ikot Oku Ikono - Asuna, Ishiet Erong, Afaha Iman, Etinan Urban to the roundabout by Etinan Institute. Then the next stretch of 29.0km Etinan - Ndon Eyo road, also dualized, extending through Ekpene Ukpa, Efa, Mbioto, Ikot Oku Ekanem, Awa, Mkpok to Ndon Eyo. Let’s talk about the dualization of the 14.5km Uyo - Oron Road (Airport Road - Okopedi Oron - Oron Road by East West Road) cutting across Ekpene Ukim, Ikot Asua, Ikot Etieidung, Nung Atai Eta, and Okopedi Okobo in Nsit Atai and Okobo Local Government Areas. There is also the 13.5km Okopedi Okobo - Oron Road proceeding from Nung Atai Eta, Itak, Uyatie, Edeghi Awa Ikpi, Otti Oro and Uya Oro villages in Okobo and Oron Local Government Areas.

Nothing is too small if we shun destructive party politics and acknowledge that the 23. 5km Eket-Etinan Road with three bridges is progressing and cuts across Etinan Urban, Afaha Nsit, Ndiya, Itreto, Okon Eket, to Eket Urban by Okpongkong Bridge. The 19.5km Eket ibeno road which opened up access from Marina Junction Eket to Edebok, Esit Urua, Mkpanak and Ukpenekang villages has been commissioned for use by Governor Udom Emmanuel

Nothing is too small for us to contribute to make our state, let’s speak glowingly of our education sector. Emmanuel has continued to give premium coverage for Education, even in the face of the harsh economy, facilitating the advent of three new Secondary Schools in the State. The Nigerian Navy Military School (NNMS), Ikot Ntuen, Oruk Anam Local Government Area is ready. There is the newly established Army Command Science Secondary School in Efa, Etinan Local Government Area, which was refurbished and equipped to replace the Salvation Army Secondary School and the Model Girls Secondary School, Ikot Ekang, Abak Local Government Area which Governor Emmanuel commissioned and which has since commenced operations.

Let’s tell the world that at the Obio Akpa campus of the Akwa Ibom State University, in Oruk Anam,  six major projects were commissioned by the governor like the Digital Language Library, a commercial farm palm oil mill, a commercial farm feeds mill, vegetable screen house, Ultra-Modern Mass Communication Studios and a magnificent Arts Theatre. The entire stretch of internal and access roads in the Obio Akpa campus are under construction complete with side drains. The College of Education, Afaha Nsit, Nsit Ibom Local Government is recording a massive face lift, as access and internal roads are in advanced stages of construction. Governor Emmanuel is committed to creating a conducive atmosphere for learning by boosting infrastructure in the tertiary institutions. The ultra-modern Administrative Block in Akwa Ibom State University, Ikot Akpaden was commissioned by Governor Udom Emmanuel and the construction of internal and access Roads have commenced in the Permanent site of AKSU in Mkpat Enin.

Nothing is too small if we say that the University of Uyo just got her first Arts Gallery building courtesy of the first family to honour the memory of Late Prince Bernard Sampson Idiong and Professor Stella Idiong, parents of Her Excellency, Mrs Martha Udom Emmanuel. The Udom Emmanuel administration has sustained the free and compulsory education from Pre Primary to Senior Secondary 3, and undertakes payment of Senior Secondary Certificate Examination, SSCE, fees and running into hundreds of millions for all indigent students.

We should tell the world that in pursuit of animal protein sufficiency Akwa Prime Hatchery with a capacity to deliver 540,000 day old chick per month was constructed and is still producing. Salaries of government workers are paid within a month and government is touching every sector in many remarkable ways.

The invitation to make Akwa Ibom great is a clarion call, everyone has a role. Nothing is indeed too small for us to contribute. We can keep our surroundings clean, avoid blocking water ways with refuse, pay our taxes and support government. There is nothing small in doing these. If we do not tell the world how awesome Akwa Ibom is, nobody will. When we build Akwa Ibom State, we do it for ourselves, our children, for Udom Emmanuel, our family and friends. Political parties may divide us and skew us to only see things in the negative. But we must be reminded that Government comes and goes. All we have left is Akwa Ibom State.

Politics / Uruan State Constituency 2019: Support The One That Stands Out by akstrending(m): 8:40pm On Apr 19, 2018
URUAN STATE CONSTITUENCY 2019: SUPPORT THE ONE THAT STANDS OUT

In the race for 2019 elections, notable Atakpos have indicated interest to vie for Uruan State Constituency Seat in the Akwa Ibom State House of Assembly. While some have boastfully alluded that their candidacies in the Party primaries are non-negotiable because of their high-wired connection to the authorities, others are massaging their bulging ego with wanton assumptions that they are the anointed ones already awaiting swearing-in. These they do disregarding God’s place in their projections and the power of the delegates/electorates, with whom the mandate they seek resides.

Nevertheless, there is a man who has not jumped into the fray of vain postulations. Apart from going into the race for Uruan State Constituency Seat in the House of Assembly with an absolute trust in the perfect Will of God (UduakAbasi2019), his ambition is centred on the good people of Uruan Inyang Atakpo whose mandate he humbly seeks. This man; Rt. Hon. Anthony Akan, an icon of achievements whose life is embodied in simplicity, moderation and humility has a voice loud enough to echo the yearnings of his people.

Tony Akan is a man of many graces whose steps are ordered by God. Like the children of the biblical Issachar, he has rare gift of understanding the times. He has been exceptional in every aspect of life's endeavour he so chooses to embark upon. Beginning from an impressive academic pursuit which climaxed spectacularly with him being one of the very few graduates of the prestigious Economic Department of the University of Uyo with Second Class Upper Division till date; to his years in the Civil Service, where he served meritoriously as Planning Officer, Ministry of Economic Development in Akwa Ibom State for 11 years (2001 – 2012), Tony Akan has dignified himself as a man who does not condone mediocrity or failures under his watch.

Equally worth mentioning are his repetitive Leadership of Akwa Ibom State Team to successful outings in Youth and Sports engagements for Akwa United, All African Games, National Youth Convention and maiden edition of Presidential Youth Summit. These feats single him out as a man of outstanding leadership capabilities. It would not be wrong therefore to posit that his present position as the Secretary Youth Advisory Council, Akwa Ibom State is an affirmation that he is a trusted hand indeed.

Tony Akan is servant leader; perhaps one of the last species of a dying breed. He is blessed with the rare ability of turning everything he touches to a gold mine...and will bring it to bear in as a member for Uruan State Constituency come 2019.

As the Coordinator of Udom Emmanuel Campaign Organisation for the 2015 Governorship election, his Midas touch led the PDP to an unprecedented resounding victory in Uruan. It is under his leadership as National Chairman of Continuity Advancement Group (CAG) that his members (largely youths), many who are heavy weights in their various endeavours today, made it to their political, financial, educational and entrepreneurial limelight in Akwa Ibom State.

Tony Akan is neither a seat warmer nor a backbencher. This great son of Uruan Inyang Atakpo, through consistent character has expressed profoundly the collective pride, audacity and crowning glory that keeps alive, the dreams of our forebears who gave their all to offer Uruan nation and its people that thrust to reckoning.

Interestingly, during his reign as Chairman of the Local Government Area, it was his political assertiveness and pragmatic suave that wrote Uruan boldly in the hall of fame of the Association of Local Government of Nigerian (ALGON) Akwa Ibom State Chapter, as the Chairman of Chairmen, Treasurer and Financial Secretary.

Presently leading the Old Students Association of Command Secondary School, Abakaliki, with over 25,000 membership strength of reputable and successful men in their chosen endeavour dotting global landscape, as the Commandant General/National President, Tony Akan is undoubtedly the face of the new generation of Uruan nation, a good ambassador who, by the striking strides projecting his leadership potentials as an Atakpo, is strategically placing Uruan prominently on the world map for good.

We shall all someday have our moment in the sun. It is our earnest prayer that life would offer us all such streaks of luck. However, it is pertinent to note that luck, like talent, may take you through the door, but only God's grace, strength of character and exceptional mastery will determine how long you stay in the room. This is a perfect description for Tony Akan; while most of those who went into politics before, with and after him have fizzled away as hurriedly as they came, his political structure and followership, occasioned by his simple, humane and charismatic leadership style, is surging. Little wonder he is the Senior Special Assistant to the Governor on Grassroot Mobilisation, the first ever so appointed.

The 2019 election is drawing closer by the day. For Uruan State Constituency, a strong credential predicated on credibility, record of accomplishment, proven integrity, experience, vast support base built on long-standing relationship would guarantee success for our candidate and Party.

For effective representation through robust legislative and unprecedented constituency engagements in the race to Uruan Constituency seat in Akwa Ibom State House of Assembly, Support the One That Stands Out.

Longest Surviving State Government-Owned Newspaper in Nigeria Celebrates.

UYO

The longest surviving state government-owned newspaper in Nigeria, The Pioneer, published by the Akwa Ibom Newspaper Corporation (AKNC), has celebrated three decades of uninterrupted publication.

The celebration which started with a thanksgiving service at the Qua Iboe Church, 112 Ikot Ekpene Road, Uyo, the Akwa Ibom capital, Sunday, April 8, 2018 climaxed with a lecture/award night, Wednesday, April 11, 2018, the exact day and month the newspaper hit the news stand in 1988.

Gov Udom Emmanuel at the event congratulated The Pioneer on the feat, noting that the medium since inception has been telling the Akwa Ibom story and has also helped in defining and redefining the Akwa Ibom character and identity, struggles and achievements.

He saluted  the management (led by Mr Umoette Umoette) for not deviating from  the mission of the newspaper and expressed delight  that  The Pioneer was not only still standing strong,  but thriving due to the  courage and  dedication to duty by the past and present management as well as staff  of the establishment .

Represented by his deputy, Mr Moses Ekpo, the governor  called on the media community to partner the state government on its development strides.

He warned against criticisms that were based on malice and with the intent to destroy.

“Let us disagree on  policies without  adopting the kitchen  sink approach, let us build our state irrespective of our political leanings, let us celebrate  our common  values and where there is need  to disagree, let us do with love and mutual respect”, he stated .

Nairaland / General / Rethinking Growth Through Food Security by akstrending(m): 9:14pm On Mar 29, 2018
RETHINKING GROWTH THROUGH FOOD SECURITY

By Uwemedimoh Umanah

There is greater hope for rural and urban dwellers in Akwa Ibom to eat 3 - square meals daily , or at least feed properly. This is due to the plethora of food production initiatives and Agricultural development programs by the Government of Akwa Ibom State under Governor Udom Emmanuel. Interestingly, Akwa Ibom is the largest producer of vegetable in Nigeria.

The Governor is pivoting food revolution that would make food available and affordable to every home in the state. Food is a basic human need, in addition to shelter and clothing. No man can live without food, and proper feeding engenders a healthy and productive population.

In Nigeria, Agricultural policies such as the Operation Feed the Nation of 1976 and Green Revolution in Nigeria were parts of the Fourth National Development Plan in April 1980. These policies helped tremendously in boosting food production in the country since independence. But the challenge of producing enough food to feed the populace remains a mirage due to policy summersaults by successive administrations in Nigeria.

Akwa Ibom state under Governor Udom Emmanuel has become a model in food production. The aim is to attain food security for its teeming population. This is in line with Goal 2 of the United Nations Sustainable Development Goal which is 'to end hunger, achieve goof security and improved nutrition to promote sustainable agriculture'.

Through a conscious, bold policy and strategic insights, the state has formulated and implemented policies capable of engendering food sufficiency and security . For instance, 2 of the Governor’s 5-points Agenda are wealth creation and poverty alleviation. In this regard, His Excellency sees agriculture as an alternative to the oil economy. In this regard, government has empowered the Akwa Ibom Employment and Enterprise Scheme (AKEES) to engender agro -businesses . That has made tomato, cocoa and coconut plantations to evolve in the state. For instance, tomatoes produced in Akwa Ibom by of AKEES has flooded the markets, making it unnecessary for traders to travel to the Northern part of the country or anywhere else to buy the product.

The Government, in partnership with a foreign private firm has also established a Green House for boosting the production of Tomatoes and other vegetables in the state. A Green House is a building, Usually chiefly glass in which the temperature is maintained within a desired range, for the cultivating tender plants or growing plants out of season.
The Green house, which is located by the gate of Ibom international Airport on 10 hectares of land, would enhance the cultivation of vegetables, and according to Governor Udom Emmanuel “would serve 50 percent of the state’s tomatoes needs”.

Therefore, Food production and security in Akwa Ibom is inextricably linked with wealth creation. The evolving tomatoes and vegetables farms have created hundreds of direct jobs for the youths and women in the state. What this implies is that poverty is reasonably alleviated in the while wealth is created for these families.

Governor Udom Emmanuel has brought a new consciousness- to rethink how the people grow and offer key solutions for development aimed at eradicating hunger and poverty. The state inspired CoconutRefinery would also create a sustainable economy and industrial base in the state.

Speculatively, it is believed that the refinery would create over 5000 direct and indirect jobs, since coconut has over 300. This is more so because confectioneries, pharmaceutical and cosmetics producers would benefit immensely from this 'new black gold'. Coconut has over 250, meaning that these firms would be producing different products with from. This again, is an idea driven by a careful and deliberate development strategy and thoughtful blueprint.

Recently too, Governor Udom Emmanuel established and commissioned Cassava Processing Plants in all the Senatorial Districts. Resultantly, garri production in the state has been tripled, while the cost has astronomically reduced. A garri trader in Akpan Andem Market, Mrs. Veronica Dennis described Governor Emmanuel's vision in this regard as unprecedented. 'We have never had it this good the processing plant our Governor built in Eket has brought about increased production and drastically reduced the price of the commodity...'.

Her opinion was corroborated by one Anthony Akpan who admitted that he recently joined well -meaning Akwa Ibomites to buy garri at an exceedingly low price at the secretariat, in a Programme organized by the Special Assistant to the Governor on Trade Matters.
'This gesture by our Governor of investing in food production has really helped the common man like me. Garri was gradually turning into an elitist food due to rise in price but I think with this new focus by the state government, things are getting better. May God bless our Governor?'

It is gratifying to note that about 50 percent or half of Garri Trader who used to travel as far as Benue, Delta and Edo States now take advantage of this increased production of Garri in the state, they have also doubled their purchase and are making impressive turn over. The multiplier effect of the food revolution is that the Governor has created an Agro-driven economy, capable of complementing and possibly substituting the oil/ petroleum economy.

Agro -business being the yardstick of the South -East Asian miracle would create a tremendous number of jobs in the state and will reduce pressure on the civil/public service.
An academic researcher in the University of Uyo, Celestine Udoh, has shown that in the last 24 months, more agro -based businesses have been established in Akwa Ibom than in any other part of the country, thanks to the ingenuity of Governor UdomEmmanuel.

Agriculture is the single largest employer in the world, providing livelihood for 40 percent of today's global population. Governor Udom Emmanuel's vision is to make Akwa Ibom an equal player in the global division of labor and globalization process of income creation and sustainable livelihood.

Nairaland / General / Cracks In Akwa Ibom Apc As Umana Umana's Men Return To Pdp by akstrending(m): 9:30am On Mar 26, 2018
“Out of the 50,000 people in this stadium, 20,000 followed me, it is not easy. The party that I belonged, the APC, there is someone they chose and all of them don’t like him, but are following him because the person deceives them with contracts. The issue is that two weeks ago, I and the deputy Governor, we were in one church. Then Nsima Ekere came and said that he will open up a small road for that community in Oruk Anam. Nsima Ekere knelt down for everybody to pray for him since he wants to be Governor in 2019, but the deputy Governor and I knew who will be the Governor in 2019, we did not join to pray for Nsima. The head pastor asked why I did not stand up to pray like others and I said that I prayed but this is what I prayed.
While some others were praying that Nsima Ekere will be the Governor in 2019, I prayed to my God as well. I called Jehovah 7 times , and He answered me, and I said please Lord do not answer what these people just prayed. And I said please God have you heard what I said and God said He has heard, He said accepted, I should consider it done.
Today that I came, I came with these people, and they are many. I commend the youths and those that helped me get here.
I brought these people, I came from APC; APC does not have a candidate, I was the Director General of their Campaigns and I know that their house is not in order, because they forgot people who worked and laboured to make APC what it is.
We heard about change but the change turned out to be from frying pan to fire. At least let us come back to the frying pan, the umbrella is a very good symbol for those who know geography you know that there is something called Ozone Layer, which the umbrella can cover; but we discover that the way they use the broom, first of all not to sweep the floor but to clear the ozone layer, such that the sun that has come on us now is so unbearable, apart from that we discover what many people did not know, the broom is what witches carry. Recently, you outlawed cultism in the state. I expected you to outlaw witchcrafts, but it is like you spared the witches because their party is in control at the center. But we wish that when you come back in the second term, you will do the needful. Continue what you are doing and since you are a person of peace. Let peace reign”

Nairaland / General / Etim Etim Is Behind Nations Newspaper Attacks On Gov Emmanuel- APC Chieftain by akstrending(m): 12:12pm On Mar 24, 2018
Revealed: Etim Etim behind fictitious write-ups on Nation Newspaper against A'Ibom gov't - APC chieftain, Solomon Johnny

By Rebecca Ikpong

A chieftain of the All Progressives Congress, APC, Chief Solomon Johnny has revealed that a certain Etim Etim, a member of the APC, is the writer of all the fictitious and libelous publications on the Nation Newspaper against Governor Udom Emmanuel and other state government functionaries.

Chief Johnny, who alleged that Mr. Etim was sacked from a bank where he previously worked because he defrauded the said bank, wrote;

"Etim Etime, I was told not to join issues with you because you are a man of questionable character who I'm told worked in a bank, stole money and got sacked few years ago. Please confirm if that is true.

That aside, assuming anyone ever worked in a motor park either as a tout, driver, loader, is there anything wrong if such a fellow uses proceeds of his endeavor to go to school, own businesses, become a council chairman, Senator, Minister, husband father and Doctor of Philosophy? What is wrong in little beginning and growing big? Aliko Dangote, yes, that riches African man and business mogul used to hawk wares and grew from there to owning big businesses today. Very many people start that way.

I understand you are the one anchoring recent half truth publications in national dailies which have drawn so much embarrassment to our party have been the soap box to opening the Pandora box oozing such sultry stinking smells which now serves as the aura around our new found faces of change. From being a bank rogue to a Public Relations consultant to a party like APC. See the mess! Have you realised the damage you have done to Obong Umana, Obong Nsima Ekere, Etiebet, Uyoe...with that ill conceived propaganda? Have you realised how you exposed them to public attack and ridicule over their nefarious activities while in PDP? Before your piece, at least nobody or group whether real or fake like the Ibom People Assembly who provided the missing link to your piece, openly called them killers and sponsors of kidnapping and assassination. But your piece, not well crafted, had given them an open challenge they can never take because "dey no pure" at all. See your greed?

Stupidity is when a man lives in a glass house and keeps throwing stones at others. I'm advising you to stop promoting your avarice at the detriment of our great party. I need to lecture you on opposition media machinery. It's different from pilfering as a bank staff. That's is not how we confronted the behemoths under Akpabio. If we were lazy heads only thinking about money and sponsoring advertorials that will do more harm than good "just to get our cut" from the Nation, APC would not have been fashionable for you today in Akwa Ibom State because it would have been brought down.

Confirm that information for me. And secondly, stop your insulting innuendoes because we are not willing to take it please. Cheers"

Nairaland / General / Nana Udom:the Hope Of A Common Man In Ukanafun Federal Constituency. by akstrending(m): 11:23pm On Mar 22, 2018
As 2019 elections draws closer, the seat for the Ukanafun gathers momentum on who shall speak for the good people of Ukanafun federal Constituency in the green chamber of the National Assembly (House of Representatives).

A hand pick of candidates have indicated interest to speak for the good people of the federal constituency, but in politics or better in a contest that is normal and inevitable, but one basis fact is that one person shall and will win and hence shall represent the people of Oruk Anam and Ukanafun federal constituency in the lower chamber of the National Assembly and by the grace of God that candidate is a revered banker with over ten years experience, a philanthropist extra ordinaire and an accomplished private individual with impeccable track records and success history.

A brief analysis on the candidates vieing for the position shows credible hands in leadership positions but definitely not house of representatives and definitely not in year twenty nineteen except the ordained representative of Ukanafun federal Constituency, Mr Ndiana Udom. In the creme of candidates,we have business men, professional politicians and private individuals, but what Ukanafun federal Constituency needs among these candidates is a man who can sacrifice his last money to the poor and the downtrodden,a man who can sacrifice his car for a young man to drive so he can be happy as he is,a man who can give out his salary to ensure his people are happy,a man who shall speak for his people no matter the odds,a man with the goodwill, political antecedents, human relations power, a man with the charisma and the capacity to lead Ukanafun Federal Constituency to the desired height in the committee of federal constituencies and that man is Mr Ndiana Udom.

A clear research on representatives in Ukanafun federal Constituency shows that the people of the area are yet to have a credible hand and voice to speak for them in the House of Representatives and I can say authoritatively that the federal constituency might lack the popularity among federal constituencies despite the fact that we have had representatives from time immemorial and since the inception of democracy and the time is now for us to liberate our people from the shackles of ineeffectie representation with the capacity and charisma of Ndiana Nana Udom.

In the basic responsibility which a lawmaker is basically entitled to perform, Ukanafun federal Constituency should be ready to enjoy enormous dividends of democracy through youthful and vibrant representation and leadership. In lawmaking. With his years of experience in the private sector, Mr Udom is vested enormously with the laws that can change the life of a common man in Ukanafun federal Constituency,he knows where his people shall need people oriented representation and this he shall give and he shall be heard every sitting day in the floor of the National Assembly, this I can attest to and vouge for him. In terms of making quality laws, Mr Ndiana Udom shall give his people the best and exceptional lawmaking to his people and he shall take the people to an Eldorado.

In the area of empowerment, I can vouge that Mr Ndiana Udom shall stand tall in this regard,he shall break records and set a new one in the history of the constituency, empowerment shall be a daily routine for this vibrant and seasoned banker of many parts. Many youths of the federal constituency shall earn a living and shall not beg for a living, they shall have a sense of belonging in the scheme of things and in the day to day running of government in the constituency through making positive impacts in this direction. Presently, Mr Ndiana Udom has the unbeatable record of empowering more People in his home local government of Ukanafun and in his federal constituency ,over 100 persons are under the care of this vibrant gentleman but surprisingly this record and mean feat is not in the public domain but it's high time I did let the cat out of the bag, a record that most office holders can't get close to, this makes me to imagine when he assumes office, the millions of boys he shall turn to men,the number of women he shall empower and the number of elders he shall maintain across the federal constituency.

I can boldly say that his party, the PDP shall be satisfied with this astute and vibrant legislator and shall wish he continues in office for a longer time.

This is one lawmaker that shall redefine representation and shall take Ukanafun federal Constituency to an eldorado in the committee of federal constituencies in the county and in the world.

Ladies and gentlemen, I present to you the best hand for Ukanafun Federal Constituency, the man of the moment and the hope of a common man in Ukanafun federal Constituency.

Jak Idian Ubok ino Mr Ndianabasi Nana Udom, for House of Representatives,Ukanafun federal Constituency.

Nairaland / General / Nddc Boss In Trouble For Refusing To Release N700m To Amaechi To Mobilize People by akstrending(m): 11:17pm On Mar 11, 2018
NDDC BOSS IN TROUBLE FOR REFUSING TO RELEASE N700M TO AMAECHI TO MOBILIZE PEOPLE WHO WILL WELCOME BUHARI IN RIVERS STATE

If the report reaching us is anything to go by, then the current Niger Delta Development Commission (NDDC) Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer, Nsima Ekere may have stepped on toes for refusing to release money to the transport minister, Rotimi Amaechi for the planed visit of president Muhammadu Buhari to Rivers State anytime soon.

Amaechi met Ekere in Abuja and told him that the South-South caucus of the All Progressives Congress (APC) has mandated him to source fund from the commission to give Buhari a lifetime and unprecedented reception when he visits Rivers State. The NDDC boss told Amaechi that he will get back to him after consulting with his team in Port Harcourt.

We were informed that trouble started when the commission's Executive Director Finance and Administration, Mr. Derek Mene who is Magnus Abe's ally advised the MD not to release the N700m Amaechi demanded for because, Amaechi just want to use it to show strength that he is on ground and to deceive the president that all is well with the party in the state.

Nsima Ekere consequently told Amaechi that the commission does not have such money for frivolities at the moment, Amaechi tried to explain why they need to replicate the crowd that received the president in Kano but Ekere refused.

Rotimi Amaechi promised Nsima Ekere that he will ensure he is called upon to come and answer questions on his loyalty to President Buhari and APC after the president's visit to Rivers State.
