MOMENT OF TRUTH Why is APC afraid of youth mobilization? The All Progressives Congress, APC, in Akwa Ibom State is a colony of jokers and cheap gossips. Recent press statement released by the party's campaign committee confirms it has ran out of ideas and exist merely to troll the internet and comment on mundane issues whereas it should be more concerned about extricating itself from countless embarrassing inanities spewing from its 'Warsaw' nationalist. Obviously, these thoughtless outings are ruining whatever slim chance it has to woo Akwa Ibom electorate. Of course, nothing better is expected from a party whose public rating is already at rock bottom, with membership made largely of alleged drug addicts, ex-convicts and disgraced politicians. A case in point is the recent pitiful attempt to rub tar on the hardworking SA on Students' Affairs to Governor Emmanuel, Aquila Otobong, by the party's campaign spokesperson, Mr. Eseme Eyiboh, who ended up exposing how insecure the party feels about overwhelming youth participation in the coming election. The question is: Why is APC afraid of Akwa Ibom youth? The truth is that APC has no plan to empower the youths. Substantial evidence shows that APC is a coven of expired politicians, who would do anything to hold unto power while keeping younger people as their errand boys and girls. This is a party filled with former this, former that, who should have long retired from politics to take advisory roles and guide the younger generation in leadership. Unfortunately, these are the ones fighting tooth and nail to 'stay relevant'! While other parties are giving opportunity to young men and women at various levels of leadership, the APC is busy arming youths to become political thugs and ballot box snatchers. Over the years, youths have lost their lives for APC, how have they been compensated? Who is talking about the victims of a vicious ambush and massacre of ACN supporters in Ikot Ekpene, under the watchful eyes of former governor Godswill Akpabio? The last APC Governorship and House of Assemblies primaries in the state, which were marred by large-scale violence, killings and bloodshed is enough to educate every Akwa Ibom youth what the party plans for them. How many leaders of the party died? None! How many of their children died or suffered matchete wounds in the violence? None! What compensation has been paid to the widow and three little kids left behind by the slain APC supporter, late Ukeme Efanga? None! Has the killers of Engineer Emmanuel Asuquo and Ukeme Effanga, who are known APC members been brought to justice? No! The entire bloody event has been swept under carpet by the leadership of APC as if it never happened. Yet, a certain political mercenary whose only motivation is to form a nexus between relevance and lining his depleted pocket, goes about making noise about 'pickings' and molestation of youths. Talking about 'pickings', can the governorship flagbearer of APC, Obong Nsima Ekere - the Managing Director of NDDC, explain what happened to annual Christmas empowerment of youths in the Niger Delta since he came into office? Akwa Ibom share of this largesse of about N15million, which is routine in the Commission, suddenly stopped. Why? Why has it become extremely difficult for Akwa Ibom youths to access empowerment programmes in the Commission recently. Why do they have to 'belong' to groups headed by his aides before they can benefit? Will all Akwa Ibom students have to be initiated into cultistism before they can access this imaginary bursary of N25, 000? Akwa Ibom youths, asked questions! Do not be fooled by desperate politicians who are more interested in grabbing power for selfish reasons. The future of our state is too great and precious to be left to men of questionable character with a history of abuse and violence. We must RISE and SECURE our FUTURE. We SHOULD NOT replace the PEACE in Akwa Ibom state with VIOLENCE. WE MUST STAND FOR PEACE! VOTE FOR A MAN WILL GUARANTEE OF PEACE! I endorse this message. 2019 Elections: Buhari’s Campaign Flag-off Re-affirms Support, Victory For Gov Emmanuel, PDP In A’ Ibom As the presidential campaign flag off for President Muhammadu Buhari’s second term in office ended last Friday in Uyo, the Akwa Ibom capital, many Nigerians have become more resolute in their support for Governor Udom Emmanuel, while many others are throwing their weight and support behind the governor, towards his re-election for a second term in office. This is coming as a result of a deflated ostentatious brag of the All Peoples Congress (APC), in the state, prior to the hosting of the presidential campaign flag off. It could be recalled that days preceding the presidential flag-off, the streets and social media was awash with stories and claims aimed at sending shivers down the spine of the supporters of Gov Emmanuel. Amongst the numerous stories were claims, allegedly rolled out by the APC propaganda machinery that a shocking number of top ranking functionaries in Gov Emmanuel’s government, including members of his executive council, local government chairmen, personal aides, as well as major PDP officers and stalwarts, were set to decamp during the presidential flag-off. Unfortunately, not only did any of the touted functionaries not decamp, but the support base of the APC which was also claimed to be massive, was put to question, given the very low turn-out of APC supporters at the Nest of Champions, venue of the supposed auspicious occasion of the party that was not just an Akwa Ibom State affair, but a South-South campaign rally. President Buhari himself played to the gallery, to further reaffirm Gov Emmanuel, and the PDP in the heart of the people who have realized and are happy with the tremendous developmental strides the PDP government led by the governor is achieving in the state, when the President could not mention a single project he has brought to the state, nor was he able to promise the state a single project if voted in for a second term in office as President. Meanwhile, in a swift show of solidarity and support to the governor, millions of youths in the state gathered separately in their different senatorial districts on Saturday, a day after the Presidential campaign flag-off in the state, to thank the Gov. Emmanuel and pledge utmost support for his re-election. Over eighty per cent of the people who spoke with our reporters, across the local government areas of the state, about the presidential campaign flag-off and Gov Emmanuel’s second term bid, said the governor should not be intimidated by any antics from whatever quarters, as the right thinking people of Akwa Ibom State are very much behind him and will vote him into office in the coming election. While many of the respondents opined that if President Buhari does not have anything to offer Akwa Ibom, nothing would make anybody believe the President will support his party’s governorship candidate in the state to succeed. The backlash of the claims precedent to the Presidential campaign flag-off in the state has also visited the social media, as jeers over the alleged claims have been constantly posted by Nigerians on social media. https://akstrending.com/2019-elections-buharis-campaign-flag-off-re-affirms-support-victory-for-gov-emmanuel-pdp-in-a-ibom/

There was a mild drama moments ago at the Victor Attah International Airport when the scant number of APC supporters disregarded their paid assignment of the day and warmly received Governor Udom Emmanuel to the shock of APC chieftains. The governor had arrived the airport to receive President Muhammadu Buhari when the few APC supporters who had arrived the airport earlier saw him and began to celebrate his arrival. They were heard shouting “Udom, the only Governor we know!” to the chagrin and consternation of the APC chieftains who had hired the services of the crowd. Governor Emmanuel responded by cheering the crowd. He waved at the ecstatic supporters before proceeding to the VIP wing to receive Buhari.

CAR OWNER KILLED AS APC CANDIDATE DONATES STOLEN VEHICLE FOR CAMPAIGN IN UYO •••TWO SUSPECTS NABBED BY POLICE Two suspects are currently singing in police custody, after being arrested in possession of a stolen car presented to them by the All Progressives Congress(APC) in Akwa Ibom State. Our reporter gathered that the suspected stolen SUV, a 2010 Honda CRV, which was branded with campaign posters of the governorship candidate, Mr. Nsima Ekere, was a product of a deadly serial robbery operation that cost the lives of many including that of the owner in far away Oyo State. The car was allegedly presented to the suspects by the APC house of Representatives flagbearer for Ikono/Ini Federal constituency, Barr Edidiong Idiong. Preliminary information available from the Oyo state Anti Robbery Squad reveals that the owner of the vehicle was among those murdered in an armed robbery attack at Oyo state. The vehicle was subsequently brought and presented to Mr Etop Akpan Ezekiel, nicknamed 'Black' from Ikpe Ward 2 in Ini local government area by the APC stalwarts as a bait to lure him into their party. Revelations from men of the police force contained that on the day of this occurrence, 3 robbery attacks were recorded within the vicinity where all the 3 owners of the vehicles were gunned down, while the robbers took off with their vehicles. The leader of the police crack team that invaded Akwa Ibom state in search of the stolen vehicles disclosed that the hunt for the other two vehicles are still on, "now that we've been able to track this very one and have gotten it, we will now channel our energies and commit our resources into finding the other remaining two vehicles, and believe you me, all the culprits will be caught and brought to book," he said. Investigations so far reveals that some personal effects of the deceased lady who was the original owner of the vehicle like ID card, complimentary cards e.t.c are still in the car and so far, Oyo state Police Command in conjunction with the Police authorities in Ikot Ekpene, have taken custody of the vehicle. THE ARREST AT A POPULAR IKOT EKPENE RESORT!!! It is undoubtedly and legally known that Macaire resort provides hospitality services where a lot of people can access with ease. Mr Etop Akpan Ezekiel (Black) had on the morning of 23rd November, driven the said car that was given to him by the APC to a popular hospitality resort on Ikot Ekpene, for relaxation when the crack team incidentally arrived Akwa Ibom state on intelligence. They traced the car to that resort and black sensing unusual moves and questions about the car absconded with the help of a certain Oscar his friend aiding him to flee the premises. As the police then lay siege on the building mounting surveillance on the car. The siege lasted till the next day being Saturday as the police kept vigil on the car which carried campaign stickers of Mr Nsima Ekere as well as APC insignia. As envisaged, one Mr Isreal Ufia, who was contracted by Mr Black to come and ferry home the car was apprehended by the police. Meanwhile, Black who oned at the primary school Uruk Uso in wait for Mr Israel, kept on calling Israel on phone to know if he had succeeded in driving the car out from the resort. Black however sensed trouble following Israel's the tenor of response and escaped leaving Israel's Camry car with a girl who was with them. So far, two suspects have been arrested including the wife of an APC youth leader who is also an officer of the Nigerian police force.

*CAN reacts to threat to peace in A'Ibom State.* The Akwa Ibom State Chapter of Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN) has noted with sadness and disappointment the recent incident that took place in the Akwa Ibom State House of Assembly over an issue that could have otherwise been resolved amicably. In a swift remark by its chairman, Rev Dr Ndueso Ekwere, CAN wishes to remind everyone in Akwa Ibom State that no matter his or her standing that no one holds the monopoly of citizenship of the State freely given to us by God himself. He reminded politicians from which ever direction that God will hold anybody who directly or indirectly initiates or causes crises in the State responsible for his actions or inactions. He condemns in very strong terms such political instability and confusion just introduced into the State which God has blessed with sustainable peace so far. Rev Dr Ekwere therefore called on all parties concerned to sheath their swords in the interest of their father land. To forestall a repeat of this kind of nasty scene especially as we approach very closely the general elections in the country, CAN suggests to the Governor to inaugurate a 'Peace Committee ' which will include representatives of Religious leaders from CAN, political stakeholders, traditional leaders, INEC, Youths, Women and Security agency. This committee according to him will formulate a treaty that will be binding on all and will to a large extent regulate the actions /inactions and utterances of careless people. 2019 elections will come and go but Akwa Ibom State will remain by the grace of God. LET THERE BE PEACE.

AKHA: STAY OF EXECUTION ORDER, TOO LITTLE TOO LATE FOR ITUEN, OTHERS –BARR. ANDEM By Umoh-Obong Kingsley The Special Assistant to the Governor Legal Matters, Barr. Ndem Andem, has described the efforts by the former member representing Itu State Constituency, Hon. Idongesit Ituen, to obtain a stay of execution from the Federal High Court in order to reverse his eviction from the Akwa Ibom State House of Assembly, as a move rather too late. Speaking on a live radio programme, Akwa Ibom Rising, on Inspiration FM on developing issues in the polity, Barr. Andem stated that the Stay of Execution cannot be granted on an action that has already been carried out, adding that the seat has already been deemed vacant and stay of execution cannot return Idongesit Ituen and his co-travelers back on seat. He said “The seats had already been declared vacant on Monday as provided by the Constitution of the country. "Mr. Idongesit Ituen, and his co-travelers remain former members of the Akwa Ibom State House of Assembly, except a higher court gives contrary ruling in their favour.” "There was nothing wrong to justify the defections by the lawmakers to APC as required by the constitution. It was a follow-follow defection." "Stay of Execution cannot be granted on an action that has already been carried out. The seat has already been deemed vacant and stay of execution means that the status quo remains. What is the status quo? "The status quo as that the seats had on Monday been declared vacant as provided by the constitution of our country. Mr. Idongesit Ituen, and his co-travelers remain former members of the Akwa Ibom State House of Assembly, except a higher court gives contrary ruling in their favour. " It could be recalled that Idongesit Ituen had left the ruling Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) for the opposition All Progressives Congress (APC) in the state without providing tangible reasons. According Barr. Andem, there was no crisis or division in the PDP to justify the defection of any member as required by the Constitution, unlike the crisis in APC that gave birth to Reformed APC at the national level and the Real APC in the state, hence the decision of the member representing Uruefong Oruko State Constituency, Hon. Asuquo Archibong, to decamp from APC to PDP as required by the Constitution. "No APC member challenged the defection of Hon Archibong, because it was difficult for any of the factions to lay claims on him." Barr Ndem said that the Speaker of the State Assembly, Rt. Hon. (Barr.) Onofiok Luke, gave the five former lawmakers, what he termed reasonable time to provide credible evidence but they failed, hence his decision to act on the order of the court to declare their seats vacant. It would be recalled that the matter in the federal high court was even instituted by Hon. Idongesit Ituen, who sought the protection of the court to prevent the speaker from declaring his seat vacant. The speaker had filed a counterclaim, seeking for “a declaration that having defected from the Peoples Democratic Party to the All Progressives Congress before the expiration of the tenure of four years for which he was elected to serve, Hon. Idongesit Ntuen has therefore lost his seat as a lawmaker in the State House of Assembly. The Federal High Court sitting in Uyo and presided over by Justice F.O. Riman, passed a verdict asking Idongesit Ituen to vacate the Itu State Constituency seat in the Akwa Ibom State House of Assembly with immediate effect with reference to the Constitution of the Federation according to section 109 sub 1 (g). The court order also restrained the Speaker of the Akwa Ibom State House of Assembly or any other person acting on his behalf (including the staff of the House of Assembly) from further recognising Hon. Idongesit Ituen as a member of the Akwa Ibom State House of Assembly. Idongesit Ituen however approached the same High Court on Wednesday, 21 November, 2018, and got an order from the same Justice Riman granting a stay of execution on the ruling that he earlier gave which gave a notice prompting the Speaker to sack Ituen and was carried out.

Governor Udom Emmanuel of Akwa Ibom on Wednesday presented 2019 budget of N670.718 billion tagged: “Budget of Industrialization for Poverty Alleviation” to the Akwa Ibom House of Assembly for consideration. Governor Udom Emmanuel of Akwa Ibom Below is the full speech of the Governor during the 2019 Budget Presentation: About three years and five months ago, destiny and a passion to serve flavoured with an acute sense of duty and abiding faith in our common essence brought us together to write a new chapter in the inspirational story of this blessed Land of Promise. Conditioned by our shared commitment to the Akwa Ibom Project, shaped and distilled by our Founding Fathers avowed pursuit of unity, love, peace, security, and an unbridled faith in God, we have today, produced an Akwa Ibom success story that has resonated with our people here and in the Diaspora and ignited in the process, a sense of renewal that even our naysayers can’t help but applaud. Permit me to pay special tribute to your patriotism and the strong partnership which we have forged over the course of the past three and half years as we work to better the lot of Akwa Ibomites. Our shared vision of a more prosperous, peaceful, strong and secure society has challenged us to build a State where our people would and should have a decent standard of living, pursue their legitimate aspirations under peaceful and safe circumstances, while creating economic opportunities. These core aspirations have energized our passion, fired our sense of purpose and the unbridled resolve to leave the State better than we met it. In this fourth episode of our budgetary submission, we look forward to a faster and more prosperous Akwa Ibom State where no one is left behind on the train of progress and development. Honourable Members let me again express my deep and profound appreciation for your unflinching support. This has translated into the tremendous democratic dividends that we have witnessed in our State through the many life-touching programmes and projects we have executed. Mr. Speaker and Honourable Members, you have kept the letter of the Constitution by the prompt consideration and passing into law of the Budgetary Proposals presented to this noble Assembly in the past, and you have equally kept the spirit of the Constitution by walking hand in hand with us to see to the effective and efficient implementation of every approved budget. Thank you again for this tremendous show of support for our people and our State To the good people of Akwa Ibom State, we thank you for your unalloyed cooperation, prayers and support. Together, we weathered the storms of recession and kept sailing when some states were struggling and needed to be provided lifelines. When men had said there is casting down, our testimony had always been that there is a lifting up. God bless you all! Above all, we appreciate the Almighty God who had bestowed His benevolence upon us as a State. He has given us representatives and leaders with knowledge, understanding and wisdom in handling the affairs of the people. To Him be the glory and ONLY GOD Himself could have made this possible. Mr. Speaker, as the proponent of the Dakkadda philosophy, permit me to say here without the slightest tinge of immodesty that I have big dreams for this State; dreams which we have so far translated into concrete manifestations in our determination to make Akwa Ibom State rise to greater heights of glory. The Good Book says you will walk and not be weary, you will run and not be tired, you will mount up on wings and fly. This State has walked; it has soared and its wings are steady because the Leader behind the controls is one laden with integrity, character and love for the people. It is the dream of an economically thriving society where peace, security and love form the building blocks that colours my thoughts each time I appear in this Hallowed Chamber to address you. I recognize that you are my dear and cherished partners and co-drivers in the train of development and progress of our dear State. Mr Speaker, let these sentiments of love and togetherness provide the moral context for this Constitutional obligation which I am about to discharge. I, therefore, crave your kind indulgence to share with this Hallowed Chamber, the vision, policies, programmes and projects of my Administration and to present for your kind consideration and approval, the Estimates of Revenue and Expenditure of Akwa Ibom State Government for the 2019 Fiscal Year in accordance with the provision of section 121(1) of the 1999 constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria. Mr. Speaker and our dear Honourable House Members, please bear in mind the cardinal objectives of my Administration, as encapsulated in the Five-Point Agenda. These are: Job Creation, Poverty Alleviation, Wealth Creation, Economic and Political Inclusion, and Infrastructural Consolidation and Expansion to further transform the state into an industrialized entity. These are the Five Pillars of my governing philosophy. REVIEW OF THE PERFORMANCE OF 2018 BUDGET Mr Speaker, and Honourable Members, permit me to start with a review of the 2018 Budget. A total of N646.649 billion was approved for 2018 fiscal year, made up as follows: Recurrent Expenditure – N94.649 billion Capital Expenditure – N431.141 billion Consolidated Revenue Fund Charges – N120.859 billion Total – N646.649 billion As at September, 2018 the actual recurrent Revenue collected was N175.594 billion. This was 60% of the budgeted amount. A breakdown of Recurrent Revenue shows that Internally Generated Revenue (IGR) – N 19.043 billion Statutory Allocation – N 31.607 billion Value Added Tax (VAT) – N 9.127 billion Derivation – N115.817 billion Budget Support – N – billion Total – N175.594 billion In re-appraising expenditure, a total of N84.314 billion was spent on the recurrent services which include: Personnel Costs – N30.169 billion Overhead Costs – N12.018 billion Consolidated Revenue Fund Charges – N42.127 billion Total – N84.314 billion Operating within the framework of the approved budget and the limits of available resources, we have been able to record remarkable achievements in our industrialization efforts. We have consolidated on the gains of democratic governance and we have given fresh breath to our campaign promises. Let me state again as I said during our Third Anniversary that there is no first term Governor who has done as much as what we have done here in this State. In spite of the harsh economic realities that stared us in the face when we came in; in spite of the sharp drop in the price of oil and the attendant hyper-inflation; in spite of the turbulent cloud on the economic horizon, we have remained steady, focused and passionate in our tireless and passionate devotion to delivering solid democratic dividends for our people. We came prepared to win, to secure our future based on the strength and promise of yesterday and the goodness of heart and ingenuity of our people. Together, we have done this in a spectacular fashion, winning accolades and commendations even from leaders and institutions of the Federal Government, such as the Nigerian Television Authority (NTA) which early this year, gave me the Integrity and National Service Award. Where others saw despair, we saw hope, where others saw challenges, we saw opportunities. Where others were bent by the enormity of problems they faced, we stood ramrod straight, shoulders held high, providing solutions to ease the pains of our people. Elsewhere, while, workers were owed salaries and pensions here, our workers smile to the bank at the end of every month. Elsewhere, the commissioning of a few kilometers of road is done with pomp and pageantry but in our state, we have constructed, commissioned or work is on-going on over 1700 kilometers of good, enduring and commercially viable roads, opening up the hinterland and we do this, without unnecessary fanfare because we are on a cause for sustainable development not a fleeting or ephemeral feeling of applause. The extent and breath of what we have achieved together, is so huge and all-encompassing hence the theme of our reelection campaign: Only God! It is only God who is the Invisible Hand that has helped us steer the ship of development of our State leading us to becoming the State with the second highest inflow of Foreign Direct Investment as reported by the National Bureau of Statistics. It is only God that has made us the most peaceful State in Niger Delta as published recently by a cross-section of the media. To the glory of God, we have made unprecedented progress in this direction and the Federal Government has just approved that the project should proceed to the next stage of Public Private Partnership (PPP) procurement process. This followed a rigorous evaluation process leading to the selection of a preferred bidder for the project. The preferred bidder is Bollore-Power China Consortium which is Africa’s leading port operator with 18 container terminal concessions in Europe, Africa, India, Asia and the Americas. China Harbour Engineering Company Ltd has been selected as the Reserve bidder. We are in the process of commencing negotiations with the preferred bidder to work out the investment and concession details, preparatory to the actual commencement of construction work on the project. CUSTOMS IMPOUND APC BUS WITH LIVE AMMUNITIONS. A branded Bus reportedly belonging to the All Progressive Congress has been impounded by men of the Nigeria Customs Service. Eyewitnesses said the bus was intercepted in Oron town around Anwana Esin road after a hot chase by the customs officers driving in Hilux truck. Several guns were seen transferred to the customs' truck as passers -by tried to make sense of the pandemonium the scene had created. The bus has been taken to Customs Office in Uyo, the state capital. No comments has been made on the matter by both the Nigerian Customs or the Nigeria Police Force. The Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, had in October berated former Akwa-Ibom state governor, Godswill Akpabio over alleged plots with the All Progressives Congress, APC, governorship candidate, Nsima Ekere, to trigger violent crisis in Akwa-Ibom state, as a strategy to scuttle elections in the state. The party described such plots as wicked, infantile and cowardly, saying it is unfortunate that the lawmaker, who knows that “there is no way the APC can win in any election in Akwa-Ibom, is now allowing himself to be used by the APC as an agent of violence, against the state he once governed.” In a statement signed by the party’s spokesman, Kola Ologbondiyan, the PDP lamented what it described as Akpabio’s frustration at his inability to cement his authority in the state since his defection from the PDP to the ruling party. Peter Obi’s choice as Atiku’s running mate excites Enugu residents “The PDP notes that Akpabio is hugely frustrated over his inability to penetrate the political structure of the state, which has rejected him since he crossed over to the APC, but expressed shock that he could lean towards violence against his own people, just to satisfy his paymasters in Abuja, as well as his selfish and egoistic tendencies. “ The party further claimed it was privy to a pact between Akpabio and some APC leaders, including the APC governorship candidate, Nsima Ekere, to “orchestrate strings of security issues, cause tension in the state and set the stage of violence ahead of the elections.” The statement continued: “Recently, a former aide of the governor, Mfon Udeme, who resigned and decamped to the APC reportedly had robbery attack at his residence. He reportedly called the police and reported the issue; only for Senator Akpabio and the APC leadership to organize a press conference in the state to allege that the state government was responsible, claiming an assassination attempt.

…AS POLICE NAB TWO FOR MURDER, ARSON The APC family in Akwa Ibom State has been thrown into anxiety, following the arrest of some prominent members of the party in Uyo in the early hours of Tuesday by men of the Nigerian Police Force. While two members of the party have been arrested, others including a former Commissioner for Economic Development under the Godswill Akpabio administration, are on the run, with the police closing up on their trail. The Police, reportedly relying on a petition by prominent APC stalwarts are said to have arrived Uyo from the IGP special squad in Abuja, picking one Uwatex at his residence and another person popularly known as Tony Abak Road who was heading to drop off his kid in school. The said Tony, is also the head of a notorious group, Renaissance in Uyo. According to an inside source, the police may have been acting based on a petition from an APC Governorship aspirant from Uyo Local Government, and an Uyo based APC Federal House of Representatives aspirant, over the killing of their supporter one Ukeme Efanga in Uruan during the APC Governorship primaries. They were also accused of being behind the burning of a police truck in Afaha Offot, Uyo during the widely criticized APC primaries in the State last month. Investigations reveal that the two arrested suspects have been detained separately at the Mobile Police Base along Idoro road, Uyo and the Zone 6 Police Headquarters in Calabar, while intensified surveillance are being conducted for the fleeing ones. The fleeing APC duo are not unfamiliar with the law enforcement officers, as one of them had previously been rounded up in connection with the murder of the Ekpenyong brothers in Uyo, during the reign of Chief Godswill Akpabio as governor. He was said to have shared a cell with his absconding counterpart, a Professor of Economics, who was previously arrested in connection with his alleged role in the kidnap of an expatriate, with the Stemco Nig. Ltd in Ikot Ekpene in 2008. The said professor, also got indicted in an attempted assassination of a serving Commissioner for Works during the past regime in the state. The Professor, now one of the campaign managers of APC, was summarily dismissed by then Governor Godswill Akpabio, after his wife was allegedly found in possession of the marked currencies, used as ransom for the released of the kidnapped construction official. Meanwhile, as at the time of filing this report, the Managing Director of a federal intervention agency, who hails from the state, is said to be making frantic efforts to secure the release of his alleged supporters. The former deputy governor's alleged pestering interferences, it was revealed, caused the two suspected armed thugs to be transferred from the State Police Headquarters in Ikot Akpan Abia, to their present locations for unhindered investigations. AKS 2019 POLLS: OBJ ENDORSES UDOM, ENJOINS AKS PEOPLE TO REJECT PROPAGATORS OF "CHANGE" By Udo Iniodu, Uyo | October 28, 2018 Former Nigerian President, Chief Olusegun Obasanjo has urged Akwa Ibom people to do everything within their powers to reelect Governor Udom Emmanuel in 2019 as his commitment to developing Akwa Ibom State will take Akwa Ibomites to new levels of collective economic prosperity. Chief Obasanjo who spoke at a Special Worship Service at the Qua Iboe church, 117 Ikot Ekpene Road Uyo to mark his visit to the state, said Akwa Ibom people should roundly reject the message of change being propagated by a few people in the State who were out to pursue selfish political agenda. The former President said judging by results, Governor Udom Emmanuel's effort has produced in major sectors of the Akwa Ibom State economy, there is need for Akwa Ibom people to insure their future and that of their children by massively supporting Governor Udom Emmanuel to continue as Governor in 2019. Chief Obasanjo said "Children of God, we have a good product (Udom Emmanuel) and there is no need for change. He is a true child of God and he will fear not and will stand still, so please Akwa Ibom people continue to stand with him" He said as someone who has served as a leader, he is impressed by the strong pillars of socio-economic development Governor Emmanuel has erected in the last three and a half years in Akwa Ibom State, stressing that the structures will build on those pillars to positively turnaround the fortunes of Akwa Ibom people. Uyo Road Transport Monitoring Task Force, Akpan Andem Market Billboard Palaver, State of Ibom Plaza – Uyo LGC Chair Speaks By Paulinus Nnah Against the backdrop of speculations and controversies surrounding the recent Akpan Andem Market billboard brouhaha, the legitimacy status of Uyo road transport monitoring task force and the current state of Ibom Plaza, the Executive Chairman of Uyo Local Government Council, Elder Imoh Okon, has last Monday, October 22, 2018 cleared the air on issues bordering on policy thrusts of his administration and the state of Uyo Metropolis. Speaking in radio programme, Akwa Ibom Rising, on Inspiration FM monitored in Uyo, Elder Okon began by hinting that his administration is currently in robust empowerment programme in terms of mentorship and skills acquisition, saying “210 trainees are undergoing intensive training in various skills at No. 3, Ibiono Str., Off Ikot Abasi Str here in Uyo. The participants are taken two each from the 105 villages in Uyo LGA. “The set that will start their training first week of November, 2018 are those of auto electrical and mechanics. And over the last weekend, through the office of my wife, it was the breast cancer awareness for the women in the Uyo Capital city and the entire Akwa Ibom State.” While declaring that the Internally Generated Revenue (IGR) of Uyo LGA has improved tremendously in this regime, the Uyo LG helmsman maintained that in line with relevant provisions of the Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria which he had sworn to defend and not to allow his personal interests to override his decisions, the revenue of the LGA is to be used for governmental activities, including social activities and amenities for the communities. Elder Imoh Okon further stressed that Uyo LG is not operating any task force on the so-called wrong or illegal parking, saying “We don’t have a single task force from Uyo Local Government on illegal parking or whatever, because we are using more of advocacy. And it’s working for us. We cannot militarise the society. “So, whoever is doing that in the name of Uyo Local Govt Area is operating an illegal business. “On the issue of wrong parking, people always call me and plead: ‘your task force has picked my wife with my children!’ We don’t have any task force belonging to Uyo LGA on illegal parking or whatever. “But we have one concept; and what is that concept? Until we establish right parking, we cannot be able to molest people for wrong parking. So let us establish the designated right parking lots. Where do you want people to park officially? Where are the bus stops? Designate them first before you begin to molest the people.” The council boss disclosed that his administration is, however, synergizing with the state Ministry of Transport and other government agencies with the view to doing the right thing in ensuring that things are done in a civil manner, so as not to compromise with those he termed as “touts”. He named insecurity as a major bane within the Plaza precincts in the Metropolis, which, according to him, is within the purview of Uyo LGC, restating that he remains the chief security officer of the local government area, and that as far as the plaza is in Uyo LGA, he cannot afford to close his eyes to issues concerning the facility. On the matter that culminated in the protest by the Akpan Andem Market women and his subsequent invitation to the state police headquarters at Ikot Akpan Abia, Elder Okon explained that a company, Blake and Harper, on the 1st of June wrote a letter to the Chairman, Uyo LGC seeking approval to site a billboard stand at Akpan Andem Market. According to him, the letter which was signed by one Utibe Ukim as the Managing Director, stated the company’s desired location for the billboard stand to be Phase 2 by Access Road, which runs from Ndiya Str. to Johnson Str. axes of the market. Acting on the said request, the council chief said that the council in turn wrote to its consultants, King Ben Ent. Ltd., that handle billboard matters for Uyo LGC for 2018 to liaise with the council’s Supervisor for Works, and to move with the applicants to where it wants the billboard stand located for inspection and their assessment and for proper regularization. “The consultants then invited them, and they went to site and showed them where they had interest. The consultants reviewing with the Supervisor for Works came back to council reporting that the applicants had been shown the site, and that they had accepted same. Then, our consultants gave them conditions,” Imoh Okon stated. The conditions, he related further, were that the applicants had to pay their expression of consent into the council’s account; on acceptance the applicants were to pay N400,000 for the site, an amount he said was lesser than the normal charge. The council chair went ahead to relate that the applicants were informed by the consultants to go to the legal unit of the council in order to ascertain the duration of the stand and the stanches of subsequent payments and other relevant conditions to be enshrined in the contract documentation. “But this is what happened: after the consultants had directed them on the necessary procedures, they went and paid the site fee which was N400,000 and they were shown the site. They next step would have been for them to come to the council and do the necessary documentation and get clearance to move to site. This is where they went on their French holiday. “Till today they’ve not gotten back to Uyo LGC. Till today they’ve not gotten a single paper on how many years they will put the stand. Till today they’ve not shown us the specimen of what their stand will be like. Till today nothing has been done. Only for us to come to know that they left the site that was approved for them to another site. “And where is their new site? The new site is a swampy area where people used to heap a lot of wastes in the market before I took over the office. In January was when I evacuated that site and did surface filling with laterite, just to create a park there. And it will shock you to note that they chose the centre of this space for their stand,” Elder Okon noted. He informed that the council has directed the applicants to dismantle the structure, adding that “but if they still want to make that stand, they should come to the council. And I want to say here that if they have anything against us they should go to court and not the police.” |

BREAKING NEWS: NDDC MD SEAT: AKPABIO COMPELS NSIMA TO PICK VALERIE EBE AS SUCCESSOR * DUMPS SAM FRANK * NSIMA IS A TRAITOR - APC STALWART The All Progressives Congress, APC in Akwa Ibom State, is immersed in another round of fresh crisis, following the overbearing influence of Senator Akpabio on virtually every decision of the Managing Director of Niger Delta Development Commission, NDDC, Mr. Nsima Ekere, whom he has handpicked to replace the current Governor. The latest crisis emanates from the last minutes decision of Senator Akpabio who ordered Nsima Ekere to dump the current Commissioner representing Akwa Ibom state on the Commission's Board, Mr. Sam Frank, who was initially selected as Nsima's potential replacement but go for the former deputy governor, HE, Barrister Valerie Ebe. It was reliably gathered that the decision to shelve Sam Frank stemmed from Akpabio’s belief that the NDDC Commissioner is Obong Umana Umana's loyalist and as such may be gathering money for Umana Umana's Governorship in 2023. Akpabio also revealed that, anybody that comes from either Umana Umana or Don Etiebet's camp should be treated with levity as he does not trust the duo in the party. The Senator also added that the NDDC job was part of his offer to Mma Ebe, while wooing her into APC. However, in doing so, there is a brewing crisis within the APC camp on the grounds that Nsima has betrayed the trust of his key benefactor, Mr. Umana Okon Umana and humiliated Mr. Sam Frank, who was rumoured to be Nsima's successor based on an agreement between Umana and Nsima before the latter was recommended for the job. Confirming the development, a chieftain of the party, who spoke off record to this reporter, expressed displeasure over the development. He disclosed that it was among many indications that the NDDC boss, if he succeeds becoming a Governor, will be the worst stooge of Akoabio's creation than Governor Udom Emmanuel. “Honestly we are disappointed by Senator Akpabio’s overbearing influence on the party and personalities involved. He has not changed and we will do everything possible to resist him. "As for Nsima, he has at various occasions shown this trait of not following through an agreement. No matter pressure from Akpabio, he should have kept to his promise. As you may already know, Nsima was recommended by Obong Umana Okon Umana for the NDDC job. "He had agreed to hand over to anybody Umana would recommend, when he resigns to contest the governorship". Our source further disclosed that there is no love lost between Nsima and Frank because as soon as he entered office, the NDDC boss flouted every agreement reached. "Sam Frank is from Onna yet he stood firm with Umana despite attacks in his hometown. He even resigned his appointment as Special Assistant to the Governor in solidarity with Umana. " Nsima was to work closely with Mr. Sam Frank to create employment opportunities for teeming APC youth, who toiled for the party and faced dire persecution in the trying period of former governor Akpabio. "But, immediately he entered office, he sidelined Frank, frustrated Umana's effort to create employment for party youth, instead he began courting PDP youths with appointments and contracts". Efforts to reached the Personal Assistant on Media to Mr. Nsima Ekere, Mr. Inemesit Inah, for comments were not successful as he neither picked calls nor reply SMS sent to his mobile phone. Nevertheless, one of Nsima's aides who confided in this reporter, provided an insight into the choice of Barr. Ebe as his replacement. He revealed that handing over to Ebe is strategic as his boss believes that Eket Federal Constituency has had their turn in serving the Commission therefore his successor should rightfully come from Ikot Abasi federal constituency. It could be recalled that the Presidency extended the tenure of the Managing Director and the Board of the Niger Delta Development Commission (NDDC) till 2020, in a move that sparked controversy across the country especially the Niger Delta States. SMALL IS BEAUTIFUL: UDOM EMMANUEL 's ECONOMICS IN AKWA IBOM STATE. By Dr. UDEME NANA. Economic downturn challenges leaders to think out of the box to explore options designed to drag their people and societies from the brink. In Akwa Ibom State,Governor Udom Emmanuel ,an Accountant who rose to the position of an Executive Director in Zenith Bank and was tapped to return to his State to serve as Secretary to the State Government (SSG ) in 2013, seems to have been influenced by the economic philosophy of E.F Schumacher ,a German born British Economist whose Book "SMALL is BEAUTIFUL - A Study of economics as if people mattered " advanced the idea that small but relevant firms are vital to the empowerment of the common people in sharp contrast to the more popular and dominant concept of "bigger is better " In just 3 years on the saddle as Governor ,Akwa Ibom State now hosts TOOTH-PICK ,PENCIL ,PLASTICS ,BAMBOO PULP ,HYDROFORM BLOCKS MOULDING ,ELECTRIC METERING ,SYRINGE and Coconut oil factories in addition to a FLOUR MILL and a FERTILISER BLENDING PLANT. Other small concerns include the AKWA PRIME HATCHERY and TOMATOE FARMS. There is also a GARRI PROCESSING AND RICE MILL . In the 30's ,when the United States of America relapsed into recession ,it took the bold steps of President Franklin Roosevelt to generate policies to benefit those tagged as the " forgotten man at the bottom of the pyramid ".Roosevelt's "New Deal" was a programme whereby government took direct action with projects targeted at restoring the fortunes of Americans by providing jobs and relief to the people. The foundation of the economic octopus which China has become today was laid by Chairman Mao Zedong's great revolution in the late 40's .During Michel Gorbachev's era in the defunct Union of Soviet Socialist Republics (USSR) in the mid 80's, he introduced the twin policies of Glasnost and Perestroika aimed at kickstarting the decaying economy of the Soviet Union. In Singapore ,small and medium enterprises are central to the economy .They make up 99% of the enterprises ,employ almost two thirds of the work force and they account for almost half of that country's GDP. Back home in Nigeria, Military President Ibrahim Babangida rolled out the Structural Adjustment Programme (SAP) in 1986 and the current effort at the National level in Nigeria by President Muhammadu Buhari to draw Nigeria back from the precipice is encapsulated in the Economic Recovery Growth Plan (ERGP). During a recent inspection visit to the Coconut factory built by his government in Mkpat Enin , Governor Udom Emmanuel was quoted to have revealed that the factory would provide direct employment to 1500 employees.Hell was let loose.Critics of the Government were bemused at the "small" number. However ,according to Emmanuel Enoidem,an indigene of the State and a keen supporter of the Government , "the coconut factory would be supported by an 11,000 hectares of coconut plantation which could become the largest such planned cultivation in Africa on completion . The former Commissioner further revealed that the plantation ,on its own ,would employ between 2000 and 3000 persons directly while the factory is designed to process one million coconuts daily for full capacity production . Analysts looking at the perspective of direct employment as stated by Governor Emmanuel may miss the point about these "small" businesses. This is because ,when seen from the angle of the communal society with its web of extended family ties and affiliations and the cultural demands exerted on such relationships to cater for the needs of dependents down the line , employees in such "SMALL businesses would be empowered to give succour to a million people across the State. The Governor also revealed that the "small"coconut industry is projected to yield $200 million to the coffers of the State monthly which is an immense boost to the Internally Generated Revenue of the State. More dispassionate examiners of the government's economic strategy look at the prospects in the value chain ,the cumulative impact and multiplier effects on the common people like food vendors ,soft drinks ,water ,groundnuts ,bananas etc in addition to other petty traders in the vicinity of the factories . These "small" but beautiful firms are also environmental friendly and have the potentials of a transformational impact on the economy , enhancement of productivity of the people and improvement in the work culture besides engendering a positive psychology among the people . The "SMALL is BEAUTIFUL "economic model adopted by the Governor of Akwa Ibom State is grounded in the Buddhist economics which is based on sheer simplicity -" an amazingly small means leading to extra-ordinary satisfactory results." In the words of Jeffrey Sachs ,an outstanding American Economist ,Bhuddist economics is designed to give guidance to all who seek peace ,fairness and environmental sustainability" These "small" but beautiful industries add to the N2billion interest free loan extended to small scale entrepreneurs in the State. Indeed , great strides often begins with small steps. This Writer believes that the small industries attracted to Akwa Ibom by its present Government to produce goods and services needed for the existence and well being of the people can stimulate the economy of the State, transform the people and change ,in a positive way ,the economic profile of the State. The Author,Dr.UDEME NANA is a Mass Communication Scholar and former HEAD ,BUSINESS & ECONOMY DESK of THE PIONEER NEWSPAPER in Uyo.

PRESS RELEASE Re: SENATOR AKPABIO IS NOT LOBBYING FOR THE OFFICE OF THE VP AS PUBLISHED BY UDOM EMMANUEL MEDIA TEAM My attention has been drawn to a jaundiced, ill-equipped and senseless article that can easily be described as the ranting of an accidental media contractor with a pseudo name-(Abdulrahman Musa)and published in the watsaap group of the ministry of information and Ibom Telegraph . In the highly warped and ill-advised article, you brought to the fore, your stack ignorance on issues by alleging that the former Senate Minority Leader and former governor of the state, Senator Godswill Akpabio has endorsed Alhaji Atiku Abubakar, and in your incoherent submission, has also been lobbying for the VP slot. I understand the pressure on you to do this dirty media job for your pay master and I appreciate your frustrations and stress because you must deliver on that set goal. I am highly disappointed in that as a supposed government media officer, you condescended so low to the abyss of falsehood, lies and beer parlour talks simply because of pressure from known quarters. I understand your plight and I sympathise with you and others who have been assigned this very lucrative assignment of running down this same Akpabio, you eulogised few years ago For your information, Akpabio has moved on and I wander why that bothers and causes you sleepless nights as a supposed civil servant. If Akpabio, as a member of the PDP then endorsed Alhaji Atiku as his choice for the state to endorse, but later left for another party, is it not nonsensical for any sane mind to think that Senator Akpabio was still in that political sinking ship with your paymaster and whoever emerged the presidential candidate of the PDP? Please ask your paymaster, if he voted Atiku at the just concluded primaries of the party. Let me reiterate for the umpteenth time that Senator Akpabio has since moved on. He has not and will not endorse nor work for the success of any other Presidential candidate other than President Mohammadu Buhari and his party ; the APC. Senator Akpabio is not lobbying for the office of the VP, but totally committed to returning to the Senate and campaigning for the swearing-in of PMB and of Obong Nsima Ekere (ONE) as the governor of our dear state come May 29, 2019. It is also obvious that your paymaster are now politically nude since Akpabio moved on, in his political sojourn. The vacuum left behind is damn too big and wide to fill and that is why the videos, where he endorsed a party member for a second term, when he was their member is now being aired on state owned media outlets for unmeritted electoral and political mileage. No lies, campaign of calumny, falsehood and other vices can stop him and like minds from achieving that. Jackson Udom

Voters in the constituents were caught between the national directive from the APC National Chairman, Adams Oshiomole who had earlier advocated automatic tickets for serving National Assembly members and President Muhammadu Buhari's presidential proclamation which overruled the party chairman and enjoined party faithfuls across the country to vote for candidates of their choice who they feel are popular more acceptable. Speaking to newsmen after the primary, Hon Udoma dedicated his victory at the primary to God and his constituents, thanking them for keeping faith in his ability to offer effective and results oriented representation, assuring them that he will work hard to justify the confidence reposed in him and the responsibilities that comes with the mandate. He congratulated his co-contestants for their gallant effort during the primary, calling on all stakeholders to unite towards ensuring victory for the party come 2019.

Barrister Aniekan Etiebet, the scion of Etiebet clan and managing director of Data Sciences Nigeria Limited, Lagos has urged the people of Akwa Ibom State to stand on the side of history and posterity by supporting the election of Governor Udom Emmanuel for a second term in office. Etiebet made this assertion during a parley with journalists at his country home in Abak. The son of the former governor of old Cross River State noted that he was impressed by the strides the Udom administration has made despite the paucity of funds arising from the national economic meltdown which has witnessed a sharp decline in receipts by States from Federation Account. Etiebet observed that the industrialization agenda of the administration has been well articulated and driven with 9 industries within a little over three years, maintaining that the industries would generate employment with massive domino effect on the local economy. He said that it takes goodwill, confidence and trust to attract industries to a national clime where uncertainties still prevail owing to insurgency ascertaining that the peace which he credited to the Christian disposition of the governor is the single reason why investors still see the State as an investment haven. In the area of infrastructure, Etiebet said that Udom being a product of a corporate world appreciates the fact that only good infrastructure can support industrialization, noting that the roads which he has built and is currently building would not only help in the evacuation of products from the industry but also facilitate access to raw materials and farm produce from the rural areas. Barrister Etiebet commended the governor for the huge investments he has made in the power sector, asserting that “power is a critical artery to the purposeful industrial take-off which Governor Emmanuel has initiated”. He also lauded the governor for the investment in the health sector noting that only a healthy population can take full advantage of the initiatives in industries and other capacity building and empowerment programmes of the Udom Administration. Waxing philosophical and political, Etiebet said that what is good for the goose is also good for the gander, pointing out that “since others with even less performance quotient did two terms, it is morally beholden on all Akwa Ibom people to grant Udom the same two terms they gave others.” He said that the case of Governor Udom Emmanuel was even more apt and logical “as there is need to allow him a second term to enable him consolidate on the industrialization initiatives.” Etiebet said that allowing Udom to finish the two terms would ensure peace and equilibrium in the polity insisting that as a State with over 99 percent Christian population, the minimum standard of Christian value which includes justice, equity and fairness must be adhered to, stating that Akwa Ibom people must situate their actions in line with these core Christian values in the matter concerning the governorship of the state in 2019. On the Senatorial bid of His Excellency, Dr. Chris Ekpenyong, the PDP big wig lauded the choice, stating that he does not only have the capacity to wrest power from the incumbent but would also give Ikot Ekpene Senatorial District selfless, focused, disciplined, deep moral and effective representation. |

2019 APC Reps Primary: Pat Etete, Akpanobong Ituen in early lead by opinion poll for Ikot Ekpene, Uyo federal constituency Opinion polls results from Ikot Ekpene and Uyo federal constituencies monitored shows former member of the House of Representatives, Hon Patty Etete and Akpanobong Ituen taking the lead in Ikot Ekpene and Uyo federal constituencies respectively as the battle for the 2019 APC House of Representatives ticket enters its final lap. In Essien Udim LGA, Etete remains the preference of over 75% out of the 10,000 registered party members who were already at their respective polling units as early as 8am in anticipation of the arrival of materials. Many of then who spoke to reporters said, they are supporting Hon Patty Etete in order to end the era of irresponsible legislative representation that has been the lot of Ikot Ekpene federal constituency for the past three and a half years. Opinion poll results shows over 6000 potential voters are routing for the Ikot Ekpene born lawmaker and businessman against Hon Emmanuel Akpan who is Senator Godswill Akpabio's choice. Ahead of the polls, one of the aspirant, Hon Joe Umoren agreed to a #10m deal with promise of appointment from Akpabio and withdrew from the race. The former Ikot Ekpene Council secretary was quoted telling his close friends and associates that he stepped down based on the intervention Nsima Ekere's loyalists who sponsored his nomination form and an immediate promise of settlement of his form expenses with a #10m cash upfront payment and a promise of the position of Commissioner when Nsima Ekere becomes Governor in 2019. This was part of the resolution of a meeting between Akpabio and all House of Representatives aspirants for the Ikot Ekpene federal constituency ticket held at the Ukana residence of the former Governor. Though Akpabio used the meeting to apologize and reconcile with Hon Patty Etete, attempt to get him back out from the race was unsuccessful. The race many voters say is a straight fight between Patty Etete and Hon Emmanuel Akpan and owing by the zoning arrangement that has always existed in the area, 2019 is the turn of Ikot Ekpene LGA which explains why Hon Etete is having an edge even in Essien Udim. Etete is also leading in a survey conducted in Ikot Ekpene with over 4000 APC members getting set to vote him. He is also set to clinch over 2000 votes from the over 3000 eligible voters from Obot Akara. Many APC members who spoke said, it is only Hon Patty Etete who has traversed all the wards and Local government areas of the federal constituency to consult party members about his intentions while no other aspirant including the incumbent who is relying on a non existent automatic ticket, therefore not deeming it necessary to consult any one at all for the position he seeks. Similarly, in Uyo federal constituency, Mr Akpanobong Ituen is leading with Hon Ekerette Ekpeyong trailing behind. Akpanobong seems set to sweep Uyo, Uruan, Nsit Atai, Ibesikpo Asutan LGA's. Over 80% of voters in Uyo are voting Ituen who is seen as a more visionary and result oriented candidate. APC members in the constituency are banking on his vast wealth of experience to provide purposeful legislative representation and a paradigm shift from what was obtainable in the past. Many voters who spoke to our reporters insist their support for him is based on their conviction that he has what it takes to reposition Uyo as a leading federal constituency in the state with the prospects of placing the constituency on the national and global map. Akpanobong is of the Udoedeghe political family that controls Uyo politics while his major opponent, Hon Ekerette Ekpeyong, a former Uyo council chairman is Nsima Ekere's preferred candidate. Many voters from Uyo federal constituency who spoke to our reporters said their choice of Akpanobong Ituen is borne out of their desire to ensure that competence and capacity takes precedence over money as the future of the constituency is paramount to Uyo federal constituency taking its rightful place of pride in the politics of Akwa Ibom State and the country. As long as Uyo federal constituency is concerned, we in APC have decided to vote massively for Akpanobong Ituen. He is our candidate because among all seeking the party's ticket for 2019, he stands out among all of them in terms of popularity, acceptability, competence and effectiveness", said a supporter who simply gave his name as Friday Umoren, an APC member from Ibesikpo Asutan LGA. |
