COSMAS OKON: THE CARRIAGE OF THE NEW NSIT ATAI DREAM The story of Nsit Atai is now in gear for another dimension. The visible clouds of hope and optimism is gathering pace and the envious radiance in their opportunity to secure the services of Barr. Cosmas Joseph Okon is now full beam. The people are now desirous for more in terms of qualitative and disruptive leadership and the good providence has placed Cosmas with the burden to help. The chronicle of Cosmas' life thus far has been a story of determination and grit. Born in 1977 to the family of Mr/Mrs Joseph Nyong Okon. Cosmas would surmount several limitations and challenges to enhance his value for himself and the society. It was at Holy Child Primary School, Ikot Asua that he first demonstrated his excellent spirit before leaving his village to Immaculate Conception Seminary, Calabar for his secondary education. He proceeded to attain a diploma in data processing at the Contemporary Institute of Computer Science and Business Studies. Cosmas then later enrolled for Bachelor of Laws in University of Uyo. While there, the burden of his quality distinguished him for several important roles. As electoral committee chairman of faculty of law in 2011 and chairman of editorial committee of the said faculty in 2012, the silver lines of his sterling quality became even more radiant. Cosmas was called to the Bar in 2014 after vocational studies at the Nigerian Law School. He is currently studying for his Masters in International Relations. Cosmas is happily married to Akon and the marriage is blessed with three children. In many years of service, Cosmas has moved from being an ICT instructor at International Management and Finance Institute, Uyo Aks, to being the ICT Manager and assistant to the Executive secretary of Akwa Ibom State Scholarships Board. He exited IT practice and answered the call of law as staff attorney at Sylvanus Obot & Co, Uyo, Aks. It was not long before public service beckoned on him when in 2015, the Hon. Member representing Nsit Atai State Constituency in a good effort to improve the quality of team for his legislative agenda, engaged Cosmas as his special assistant. In the same vein and for all the right reasons, PDP in Nsit Atai also entrusted him as their legal adviser and he served meritoriously, representating the party and its members in court severally on the many issues of 2019 elections. Barr Cosmas Okon has the midas touch and is now aspiring for an opportunity to plant his incredible imprint on the fabrics of Nsit Atai. A peep at Cosmas' mindset would reveal some of the attractions that has endeared him to Nsit Atai people. The plan is to drive economic and social inclusion through education, social-reorientation, commerce, agriculture and healthcare. Cosmas is particularly passionate about education and has often taken opportunity to mention that education is the bedrock that guarantees the success of social engineering and the sustainability of development. As chairman, Nsit Atai will be a model for others to follow in terms of educational investment. Another is Agriculture, indeed Cosmas has mentioned that he intends to lead a palm oil revolution. He believes that a purposeful investment in the palm oil value chain will precipitate an economic boom in Nsit Atai and take his people out of poverty. To achieve this, Cosmas is already gathering thoughts on the best strategies to access improved seedlings, research on soil type and improvement options, refining, value chain exploitation and marketing options. He has mentioned that as chairman that he would seek and facilitate several public - private ventures on palm oil alone. As a practicing christian and a altar minister of the Redeemed Christian Church of God where he is also a zonal coordinator of the Community Development Services of the Church, Cosmas' word is his bond and by God's grace, he won't renege. It is time for Nsit Atai people to take action. The youths, men, women, artisans and professionals to put in their weights behind this carriage of the new Nsit Atai dream and wheel it to fruition. Nsit Atai deserves more!

........others get car, motorcycle The fourth round of the N100m business empowerment initiative of the member representing Ikono/Ini in the House of Representatives, Hon.(Obong) Emmanuel Ukpong-udo, held today in Wards 3, 9 and 10 of Ini and Wards 1, 2 & 4 of Ikono Local Government Area as a total of 20 Million Naira was disbursed to 35 beneficiaries across the 6 wards. Under the Macaire Enterprise Development Scheme, 19 constituents from Ikono and 16 from Ini received cash ranging between Five Hundred Thousand Naira (N500,000) and One Million Naira (N1,000,000) to develop their businesses, while two others smiled home with a car and a motorcycle. Apostle Silas Ukata in his welcome address at Itu Mbonuso Ward 3, thanked the member for being a promise keeper and for bringing good tidings to the people, describing his gesture and magnanimity as a pleasant surprise to some people. The member, he said, had set a positive precedence for assessment of future representatives. In his address to the people, the member representing Ikono/Ini Federal Constituency, Hon.(Obong) Emmanuel Ukpong-udo stated that his business empowerment initiative would be in 3 phases while reiterating that he had earmarked a non-refundable 100 million grant for distribution in 2020. He expressed his commitment to seeing it through even earlier than planned due to the exigencies of the pandemic period. The people-centered gesture, he stated, was under 6 active months of representation as the other 6 months were overtaken by recess in the house and lockdown restrictions. Speaking further, Rep Ukpong-udo thanked elders of the various wards for cooperating with him but frowned at the attitude of some who insisted on being empowered at the expense of others describing such as the height of selfishness as representation was for all. He advised leaders to cultivate the culture of regularly empowering the people as that was the true essence of representation, rather than wait for election time. He briefed his constituents on some of his life touching empowerment initiatives, the latest of which being the "U-Martha" Ambassadors Scheme targeted at providing an alternative source of income to 200 of his constituents monthly, summing up to 48 Million Naira annually. At Ward 4 in Ikono LGA, the member launched the third part of his empowerment which he disclosed was aimed at welcoming and maintaining the new ward executive of the ward as a show of support and solidarity to them. Across the wards visited, various speakers in their goodwill messages lauded the member for following in the good footsteps of his father and urged him to remain resolute in his pursuit of the common good of the constituency and not be deterred or distracted by naysayers. His gesture they maintained was unprecedented in the constituency while urging the beneficiaries to maximally utilise the resources at their disposal. They sued for patience from those yet to benefit as more persons stood a chance of feeling the lawmaker's touch in the course of his tenure. The highly elated beneficiaries expressed their gratitude to the member for turning around their fortunes and reassured him of their continuous support and solidarity. At Ukwok Ward 9 and 10, the member gifted a car and motorcycle to two of his constituents in fulfillment of an earlier promise he made to them. So far, 14 wards out of the 21 wards of the constituency have been visited with 7 wards to go.

** warns chapter party chairman to stop creating crisis in Ikono LGA The Extended Party Executives of the People’s Democratic Party in Ikono Local Government Area has upheld the suspension of the Leader of the Legislative Council, Hon Samuel Udo. In a letter issued on Thursday 29th May 2020, co-signed by the Ikono PDP Extended Exco and the Ward Chairmen in the area, the Exco expressed its dismay and displeasure at the Chapter Chairman’s autonomous press statement which misled the public concerning an earlier decision to suspend Hon. Udo for indulging in anti-activities. It will be recalled that the Ward Executives had, on 21st May 2020, issued a communique suspending Hon. Udo in line with the provisions of Section 57(3) of the party’s constitution. Actions leading up to his suspension included the fact that he was discovered to have conspired with the opposition party during the last election, an alliance which persisted with his inexplicable suspension of bonafide and loyal members of the party recently. Following this constitutional action taken against him, only the lodgment of a formal appeal by Hon Udo, as provided for by the Constitution in Section 61(1), could prompt a nullification or reversal of his suspension. The letter notes that the failure of Hon Udo to take this step only further gave credence to the claims against him, thus strengthening his suspension. This ultimately renders the purported press statement baseless and illegal. It further advised the Chapter Chairman to desist from misleading the public but to consult widely before making conclusions. The PDP party executives summarily maintained that the suspension of Hon Samuel Udo during which he is expected to refrain from holding forth or parade himself as a member of the PDP in Ikono, still stands, as it was legitimate having been decided in accordance with the provisions of the party’s constitution.

Akaneran Essien advocates for Quality Tertiary Education in Nigeria ...As Ritman University Holds Maiden Convocation Lecture The former Vice Chancellor of the University of Uyo and Guest Lecturer at the maiden convocation lecture of Ritman University, Prof. Akaneran Essien has stated in strong terms that there is need for an intensive overhaul and rebranding of the educational standards in Nigerian tertiary institutions. Essien said the current challenges and intensifying decline in values and standards of university education in Nigeria and the adverse effects of these on the nation is a strong indicator that the varsities have lost the most cherished virtue of quality, which is a top prerequisite in education and learning. The Guest Lecturer noted this, today Friday, 29th November, 2019 at the maiden convocation lecture of the Ritman University, Ikot Ekpene Local Government Area of Akwa Ibom State. Essien, who gave a lecture on the theme: "Reflections on Qualitative University Education in Nigeria," insisted that qualitative education should be brought into an active state in all Nigerian tertiary institutions, stressing that every university has all it takes to rebrand itself based on best global and ethical practices. According to him, "Qualitative Tertiary Education is the worth of the inputs into higher education systems, lectures instructional facilities and evaluation procedures which translates to the output." The inputs, according to him, determines the quality of academic activities such as teaching, practicals and research, quality of teachers and graduates, values upheld in the Nigerian varsities and intellectual manpower of the nation. Taking an in-depth look into university education in Nigeria, he explained, "Between 1960 and 1970, Government approved five more universities: University of Nigeria, Obafemi Awolowo University, University of Ife, Ahmadu Bello University, University of Lagos and the University of Benin. These first generation Universities did not have budgetary limitations. Infrastructure was in abundance and there was no restriction in employment policies. "The quality of academic activities were highly commendable. The quality of staff was good and class size low enough for in-depth lecturer-student interaction. Examination malpractice was extremely rare and the dignity and atmosphere of University examination was a wonderful sight to behold. "The quality of graduates produced stood the test of time in the public and private sectors. He further noted that the quality of university education in the mid-80s had begun to take a downward turn owing to the sharp expansion in students' intake, establishment of more universities with low staff strength, and decline in national resources which led to limited funds allocation. "The period between late 80s and 1999 could be said to have been the worst. At this period, facilities and other infrastructure were dilapidated needing rehabilitation," he continued. Essien who is a member of the Animal Science Association (ASA), pointed out that due to strike actions by staff unions in a bid to draw government attention to the state of the Universities, ASUU for instance, has recorded a total period of 218 weeks of strike actions from 1993-2019. However, Essien averred that to a larger extent private universities have fared better in terms of academic ranking, patronage and successful operation of the global university academic calendar. Earlier in his speech, the Chairman on the occasion, Prof. Emmanuel Ating, said the event will ever be a memorial day in the history of the great institution of learning as it has achieved an extraordinary feat. On his part, Prof. Nsongurua Udombana, the Pro-chancellor of the institution applauded the guest lecturer for passing on redefined knowledge to the audience and for giving governments food for thought. Mrs. Rita Umoh, the Dean of Students, while lauding Prof Essien, thanked God for the successful hosting of the maiden convocation lecture of the institution. She used the opportunity to invite all to the first ever convocation ceremony of the institution billed for tomorrow, Saturday. Highpoint of the event was presentation of Awards of Excellence to the former Vice Chancellor of the University of Uyo, Prof Akaneran Essien and the Chairman on the occasion, Prof. Emmanuel Ating. TONE SETTING BY THE PRESIDENT OF THE WIVES OF LOCAL GOVERNMENT CHAIRMEN, AKWA IBOM STATE CHAPTER. MRS BRIGHT FRANK ARCHIBONG ON THE OCCASION OF THE WALGON WOMEN EMPOWERMENT PROGRAMME. THEME; WOMEN CAPACITY BUILDING AND PRODUCTIVITY; CREATING WEALTH FROM AVAILABLE RESOURCES BY RURAL WOMEN. ON THE 28TH DAY OF NOVEMBER, 2019 IN UYO, AKWA IBOM STATE. PROTOCOLS. It is with great pleasure that I welcome all our guests and women here to the WALGON Women empowerment programme. On behalf of the Wives of Local Government Chairmen, Let me begin by thanking our Mother, Her Excellency, Dr (Mrs) Martha Udom Emmanuel for granting us the permission, counsel and support to host this epoch making empowerment event. Let me also thank the chairman of today’s occasion, Hon Udo Ekpenyong who through his office, has always made himself available for WALGON and her programmes. Permit me also, to specially thank the Algon Chairman and all local government Chairmen in Akwa Ibom State ( our husbands) without them, this event would not have been a success. Their passion and commitment for the empowerment and capacity development of the women in the various communities led to the massive support they gave us to host this event. Distinguished ladies and Gentlemen today we are all assembled here to witness the fulfilment of a pledge by WALGON to empower 3 women per ward round the 329 wards of the 31 local government areas of Akwa Ibom State. Close to a thousand women will be empowered with startup capital to support their trade, sewing machines and dryers will be distributed to women to boost their commercial output for a better economic yield in their various small medium enterprises. This empowerment is a measure of support intended to improve the quality of lives of our rural women at the same time meeting their basic needs. It is our means of appreciating our women for their humongous support and commitment towards the successful re- election of His Excellency, Mr Udom Emmanuel, the Governor of Akwa Ibom State for four more years from 2019-2023. We all agree that the rural women of Akwa Ibom state played pivotal roles in the mobilization of voters and spreading the message of peaceful conducts during the last general elections. Today, WALGON is here to say thank you to the women and also distribute grants to help and encourage our rural women to have the means of finding their own solutions and creating values for themselves economically Over the years, WALGON watched our mother Her Excellency, Dr (Mrs) Martha Udom unleash the economic power and abilities of women through her various models of empowerment and we decided to not just learn, but to also imitate her model of touching the lives of women, regardless of their social status. Your Excellency Ma, Kindly, grant us all the full patent right to copy all your empowerment models for the capacity development and productivity of our rural women. Your Excellency Ma, since the Governor of our dear state, your husband, His Excellency. Mr. Udom Gabariel Emmanuel spurred us to rise up to the faith of greatness with the Dakkadda creed, a greater percentage of rural women had started shaking off the shackles of cultural roles and beliefs defined for them. They are now becoming self-sufficient revenue earners in areas of trade, agriculture, fashion, entertainment, media and several commercial ventures and even to some extent competing with men in areas exclusively dominated or reserved for men. With the little support in cash and materials they would get today, it will further give them the necessary motivation to be further industrious and achieving their economic objectives in no sooner time However, with all the remarkable improvement in the development of women, a lot still need to be done. There is still a yawning gap to be filled as it regards women empowerment that is why I will use this opportunity to solicit for partnership from well-wishers to collaborate with WALGON in this empowerment programs so we can increase the number of beneficiaries from 3 per ward to 5 per ward as well as increase the support of the empowerment both in size and scope to the women. Finally, to our women who have been empowered, I appeal to you all to make judicious use of this privilege to create wealth. For the women who are not beneficiaries today, I employ you to join the beneficiaries as collaborative partners in wealth creation for the collective good of your community just as you are patient for your own opportunity in the nearest future. Let me end this remark by agreeing with the quote from Kofi Anan that the empowerment of women is the most effective tool for development of a nation. Today we have showed intent to build a future prosperous nation by laying brick by brick the empowerment of our rural women. I thank you all for Finding time in your tight schedule to attend today’s event . MAY GOD BLESS YOU ALL. AMEN .

CONTROVERSY SPRINGS AS UYO SOCIAL MEDIA COMMUNITY CAMPAIGN FOR WOMEN Facebook and other social media platforms had been awash recently with quotes about women and humanity with the hashtags, #3WomenPerWard, #28November, and official introduction of wives of Local government chairmen in Akwa Ibom. For a second, one will think it's was a campaign for women to contest for political positions or a fight for feminism or women's rights in politics or society. There is more to it. Phylicia Rashad said " Anytime women come together with collective intention, it's a powerful thing whether it's sitting down to making a quilt, in a kitchen preparing meal, in a club reading the same book, or around the table playing cards, or planning a birthday party, when women come together with a collective intention magic happens" Eleanor Roosevelt talk about the strength of a woman when she said that " a woman is like a tea bag, you can't tell how strong she is until you put her in hot water". Various social media users were seen celebrating their Local Government Chairman’s wife, while some where amazed, bring the first of it kind since the inception of local government in Nigeria to celebrate them. The celebration which had a massive turn out-trend also raised questions from the public about the campaign; “To whom it may concern: Now we've seen wives of Local Govt Chairmen, can you also do well to show us their side chicks? #Tenkiu” Samuel Ayara on Facebook "Wow✔✔✔✔✔ Empowering women is a necessity because it will go a long way in giving them a sense of belonging and make them financially independent."- Evelyn Edidiong Udobia “So if I know my chairman's wife, it will reduce the price of garri in the market. We joke too much in this country.”- Peter Koko James on Facebook. “Me: Mrs. Something Anietie.... Can you imagine”- @Kay_Bubbles on Twitter "Women empowerment and youth empowerment is a necessity in every focused administration. And the admin. of Hon. Frank has taken these two as a priority. God bless the First family of Eket LGA. I SUPPORT this INITIATIVE OF MRS. BRIGHT ARCHIBONG. #YEAFFA"- Itoro John “Wetin concern me... Is she sharing money? I don't even know the name of the chairman”- Hasadiah Bassey. From my findings, It is indeed a clear indication that Wives of Local Government Chairmen (WALGON) are following the footsteps of the Governor's wife, Her Excellency Dr. Mrs. Martha Udom Emmanuel, who focuses on adding value to the lives of Akwa Ibom Women. This is also seen under the leadership of Mrs, Bright Archibong coming together to touch the lives of women in Akwa Ibom State on the 28th of November 2019. The program aimed at empowering 3 women per ward in each local government area, will be empowering a total number of 987 women at Shelter Afrique field in Uyo. Thus on this note, it was Leo Tolstoy who said that "the sole meaning of life is to serve humanity" WALGON AKWA IBOM STATE CHAPTER is committed to touching lives and serving humanity. Let’s watch out, as the said event unfolds. My thinking is that the will settle for #WalgonTouchingLives in the end. Written by Grace Essien, A Social Media Enthusiast

Listen to the Radio Interview By Rupa Shenoy for The The World This year, the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences renamed the Oscar category of best foreign-language film to best international feature film, but it didn’t change the rules for qualification: Nominated movies still have to be mostly in non-English dialogue. So, Nigeria’s first-ever Oscar submission has been disqualified. “The intent of the award remains the same — to recognize accomplishment in films created outside of the United States in languages other than English,” the academy said in a statement. “As this year’s submitted films were evaluated, we discovered that Lionheart includes only 11 minutes of non-English dialogue, which makes it ineligible for this award category.” The 90-minute film “Lionheart” was acquired by Netflix, and is in English, other than the 11 minutes of dialogue in the Igbo language of eastern Nigeria. It’s a story about about being a Nigerian woman in a male-dominated business world. Nigerian actress Genevieve Nnaji funded the movie and stars in it and directed it. “It provided an environment where I could showcase the things that made me proud about our culture,” Nnaji told CNN last year. “It was really about that authenticity.” The reaction to the academy’s decision to disqualify “Lionheart” was swift, and it was led by Hollywood director Ava DuVernay. She pointed out in a tweet that English is one of the official languages of Nigeria as a result of being colonized by the British. “Are you barring this country from ever competing for an Oscar in its official language?” DuVernay asked. Nnaji, in her own tweet, said “Lionheart” represents the way Nigerians speak. “We did not choose who colonized us,” she wrote, adding that English acts as a bridge between hundreds of native languages. Many of Nigeria’s biggest film productions have primarily English dialogue. “This is the reality of Nigeria as it exists now. And the film wasn’t created to rectify the realities and consequences of colonialism.”Mukhtara Yusuf, Nigerian artist, academic “This is the reality of Nigeria as it exists now. And the film wasn’t created to rectify the realities and consequences of colonialism,” said Mukhtara Yusuf, a Nigerian artist and academic who focuses on colonial studies. “It’s reflecting a language reality that is very common in Nigeria, especially of people of certain classes. And I don’t see why there should be any punishment for really honestly reflecting that reality.” But there are those who say that “Lionheart” doesn’t represent Nigeria well. “Speaking English and using English is like putting on an image that is not you,” said Uduak Inwang, a social media consultant from Nigeria. “You’re trying to celebrate the people who colonized you, telling them, ‘I’m still not matured, I’m still a baby.’” And a rule is a rule, said Nigerian director Obi Emelonye. He said Nnaji probably made “Lionheart” in English to get the biggest possible audience, but there are plenty of Nigerian films made in native languages like Yoruba and Hausa. “To argue that English is our official language, so we should be allowed to submit a foreign category film in English language … if you look at it logically without lack of sentimentalism, you’ll find that it doesn’t hold much water.” Obi Emelonye, Nigerian director “To argue that English is our official language, so we should be allowed to submit a foreign category film in English language … if you look at it logically without lack of sentimentalism, you’ll find that it doesn’t hold much water,” he said. For its part, the Nigeria Oscar Selection Committee said in a statement that from now on, it intends to submit films that are mostly native languages, not English. They’re urging Nigerian directors to keep that in mind when making films if they want to be considered for an Oscar. By Udeme Ekanem Some staff of Akwa Ibom State Polytechnic, Ikot Osurua have described the allegation of misappropriation of funds leveled against the person of the Acting Rector, Dr Moses Umobong as false, mischievous and wicked propaganda meant to derail the ongoing reforms championed by the Onna born administrator. The staff who spoke to our reporter on condition of anonymity said Governor Udom Emmanuel's choice of Dr Moses Umobong as Acting Rector is the best thing to happen to the institution, submitting that the Acting Rector since his assumption of office has so far carried out unprecedented reforms that have become the benchmark for other similar institutions across the country. Apart from eradicating cultism, instilling academic excellence and promoting staff welfare as a topmost priority, the staff said, the recent audit to determine the need of each department of the institution towards the forthcoming accreditation and reaccreditation exercise by the National Board for Technical Education, NBTE, is one major accomplishment of Dr Umobong. They noted and commended the Acting Rector for the purchase of 6 official vehicles to principal officers and Deans of Schools of the polytechnic from IGR of the institution, noting with delight that such gesture was unprecedented. "One other area Dr Umobong has radically reformed since coming on board is the release of backlog of results. Almost all results are now released. But where I think he has really stood his grounds and restored sanity is in refusing to sign certificates from the abolished Distance Learning Programme that was scrapped in 2006. How do those fighting him expect him to defend such action when everything about Distance Learning Programme in Akwapoly ended officially in 2008", asked a staff of the School of Engineering who did not want his name in print. They described as false and misleading, allegations that the Rector embezzled #100 million donated to the institution for accreditation purpose by the Governor, submitting that the said money is intact and in the account of the polytechnic. "Some people are just so mischievous. Some even went as far as saying that four trucks of cement donated by Prince Ukpong Akpabio for the construction of the Udom Emmanuel office complex has been siphoned. But how is that possible when in reality, not even a bag has been donated?", asked a senior member of ASUP who pleaded anonymity. The staff described as ridiculous allegations of diversion of #35million to finance the construction of a hostel at Uniuyo permanent site, describing it as laughable. They called on the Rector not to be distracted by critics and criticism for doing the right thing, expressing their readiness to give him all the necessary support he needs in order to restore the glory of the polytechnic.

GOV EMMANUEL WILL LEAVE A'IBOM BETTER THAN HE MET IN 2015 - Inyang-Eyen By Ubong Ntekim The state Governor, Mr. Udom Emmanuel has reassured the good people of Akwa Ibom of his campaign promises, that he will leave the state far better than he met it in 2015. The state Commissioner for Works, Mr Ephraim Inyang-Eyen made the disclosure, Tuesday, when he led the ministry's team which had the Permanent Secretary, Elder Effiong Essien, Directors and Engineers, on inspection tour of projects executed by the State government. According to the Works boss, by the time Mr Emmanuel leaves office in 2023, the governor will be remembered as a leader who fulfilled all his campaign promises to his people. Some of the projects inspected included, the 19.8Km Uyo-Etinan Road as well as the 25km Uyo- Ikot Ekpene Highway, handled by the construction giants, Julius Berger. Answering a reporter's question on the new look of the Etinan roundabout which is now a cynosure of all eyes, InyangEyen recalled that, " as a student in 1979 to 1982, Etinan Local Government Area remained the same until Governor Udom Emmanuel took his transformation drive to the once neglected area". He explained that when the road is completed, "the entire Etinan (Local Government Area) would be opened up for commercial and economic activities". On the 25km Uyo - Ikot Ekpene Highway, Inyang-Eyen, stated that Governor Emmanuel, has shown commitment to completing the road for many reasons. " This is the road that the former governor said he had completed and commissioned but today for the first time, we are less than one kilometer away from the 4 Point by Sheraton. This is the first time one could access this area for so many years now", he said. Explaining further, the Works boss said, "we have taken down this burial ground and I can assure that with another 800 metres, we will arrive at popular 4 Point by Sheraton. " As I said earlier, we will get to the end point before the end of Governor Emmanuel's first term on May 29 this year. The total road may not be done, but we will definitely have access to the end point." On some of intervention projects and major contracts where contractors have shown lackadaisical attitude, Commissioner Inyang-Eyen announced that State government will cancel those projects and re-award them. "Every contract that has been given out to whosoever, who is, at this moment not at his site, when I get to that site, the Governor has given me permission to cancel those contract and re-award same. " We are at the process of re-awarding Airport - Okopedi Road that we gave to Aquatic Construction Company because the governor is determined now that Akwa Ibom people without any godfather has given him a renewed mandate, to give to our people something they will remember him for, and that is absolute and perfect development of all the nooks and crannies of Akwa Ibom State" Meanwhile, some buildings and structures that were cited on the main alignment of the ongoing road constructions were demolished after due compensation had been paid.

Plot to arrest, frame up and detain PDP chieftains in Akwa Ibom State by Senator Godswill Akpabio and Nsima Ekere This is to alert Akwa Ibom people, security agencies and the international community of a sinister plot by Mr Nsima Ekere, the sacked immediate past Managing Director of NDDC and APC Governorship candidate in Akwa Ibom state and Senator Godswill Akpabio, to frame up, arrest and detain some PDP chieftains in the state as part of their grand conspiracy to cause chaos, anarchy and bloodshed as a prelude to rigging the 2019 election in Akwa Ibom state. Credible intelligence indicates that the serially rejected and severally sacked APC Governorship candidate, Mr Ekere and his Warsaw advocate, Senator Godswill Akpabio have hired some miscreants to foment trouble in the state, tomorrow, February 22, 2019, with a view to getting arrested by security forces and use an already prepared and stage managed confessional statement to implicate the PDP National Legal Adviser, Hon Barr Emmanuel Enoidem, the Akwa Ibom State Commissioner for Works, Mr Ephraim Inyang, Senator Bassey Albert, the Speaker of the Akwa Ibom State House of Assembly, Rt Hon Onofiok Luke and others as their sponsors. Available intelligence has also reveals that this wicked, barbaric and devilish plot is being spearheaded by an aide of Mr Ekere and these thugs brought in from outside the state to execute the aforementioned plot are already camped in Akwa Ibom preparatory to the execution of the task they have been assigned to undertake. We want to state categorically, without fear or contradiction, that no amount of intimidation, threat, plot to arrest, detain, frame up or assassinate any PDP chieftain or high ranking member of the party in the state will weaken the resolve of all PDP members in the 31 Local Government Areas of the state to support, vote for and defend the wishes and aspirations of Akwa Ibom people who are resolute and unweavering in their resolve to support the second term bid of Governor Udom Emmanuel towards consolidating on the gains of his industrialisation policy and the prevailing peace and security witnessed in the state since May 29, 2015, contrary to what was obtainable in the state from 2007-2015. The resort by the APC to intimidate and arrest PDP members only exposes the unpopularity of the APC in the state and shows the world clearly that the APC have already lost the elections even before the first ballot is cast, contrary to earlier boast by Senator Godswill Akpabio that elections will be over in 3 hours. We however call on security agencies to rise above board and exhibit patriotism, professionalism and neutrality in the discharge of their duty, before, during and after the election. Let us also use this medium to warn Senator Godswill Akpabio and Nsima Ekere, to stop playing God with the future and destiny of Akwa Ibom people. Akwa Ibom has never and will never be their private property and the people will come Saturday, February 23, 2019, take their destiny in their hands by securing their future and the future of generations yet unborn by voting massively for the PDP. We however warn that should anything happen to any PDP chieftain in the state, Godswilll Akpabio and Nsima Ekere should and would be held responsible and unlike what was obtainable in 2011 and 2015, every action by anybody leading to the death of any Akwa Ibom son and daughter with regards to the 2019 elections will have consequences. We call on all PDP members to remain calm even in the face of extreme provocation, ignore the wicked antics of the APC which is nothing but the empty plot of a frustrated and desperate party who are unable to come to terms with their total rejection by the electorate and come out enmasse to not only vote out the APC but also enthrone through the ballot, the faith Akwa Ibom people have always had in the PDP since 1998. May we also use this medium to call on President Muhammadu Buhari, to for once, be aware of this criminal conspiracy to cause a break down of law and order in Nigeria's most peaceful state and caution his desperate party men in Akwa Ibom state to play by the rules and test their self acclaimed popularity by the ballot and not by guns, blood and intimidation. We can never be intimidated! We shall never be afraid! We shall defend the will and vote of Akwa Ibom people matter the cost. Signed: PDP Election Monitoring Group Akwa Ibom State

LEAPFROGGING LONGTERM ECONOMIC GROWTH IN AFRICA- THE BEAUTY OF IBOM AIR By Udeme Etukeyen Today Akwa Ibom State in South South Nigeria made history as the first state to promote and invest in an airline as catalyst for sustained economic growth, business enablement and positioning of Nigeria as a towering economic gateway for Africa. This feat has thrown up deep insights into the efficient and strategic leadership coming out of the Oil Rich State that holds the promise of an evolving Deep SeaPort, Maintenance Repair and Overhaul facility, numerous agricultural processing and cultivation in Cocoa, Coconuts, Oil Palm, Rice, Cassava and Vegetables. The existing tourism and manufacturing opportunities are about to be fully harnessed; launching the State as the Investment Destination of choice within the Continent. Air Transport or Aviation is known to facilitate a country’s integration into the global economy, providing direct benefits for users and wider economic benefit via direct impact on performance and productivity(www.iata.org/economics) The success story of Dubai has the Emirates Airlines as the fulcrum or foundation to which tourism, businesses and enhanced technological exploits sits. Akwa Ibom today enjoys an average of 200,000 passenger traffic annually with greater growth potential with the arrival of 2 units of the State financed CRJ 700 Bombardier aircrafts awaiting a 3rd in a week, another in the last quarter of 2019, 3 units in 2020 and 3 more in 2021 to fully optimize her regional prominence in the aviation industry for the brand new Ibom Air. Emphasis on promoting the State as an economic gateway has remained the focus of the Governor UDOM Emmanuel agenda which has recorded catapulted progress on the Ibom Deep SeaPort, Ibom Industrial City and several Industrialization efforts that has seen to improved production and distribution of Electricity to fuel the 15 new Industries dotting the economic landscape of the State. Ibom Air in its beauty and right shall be providing 300-400 direct employment of skilled personnel leveraging Government commitment to its efficient business and corporate governance structures. Funding had been carefully structured through 3year budgetary provisions with options of attracting investment resources as increased service frequency of 3 flights between the Cities of Lagos and Abuja blossoms. Direct bearing on the Logistics, Hospitality, ICT is rife as Connection to major cities within the economically viable South East and South South States remains a key success factor for the airline whose planes are all within the 10yr age bracket. Economic rates of return from aviation industry analysis indicates a direct correlation between increased GDP, Airline Connectivity and annual ROIs of 16-59% and a surge in productivity of the populace. It implies therefore that the significant benefits of this investment will influence every sphere of economic activity with the region and better position the State for further investments in the aviation sector like the MRO, Cargo Services bearing direct impact on the longterm economic explosion that beckons. This is spirit lifting news from Nigeria at a time as this and we stand Optimistic that greatness awaits Akwa Ibom and all of Africa!! #ibomair #akwaibomtotheworld #dakkada #onlyGod
