The wait is still on to determine who becomes the next governor of the Osun State. Nigeria has some 36 States so why has this particular election in the state of Osun become so important?

Nigeria, the most populous black nation in the world, has struggled to live up to its potential despite having abundant resources. The country produces some 1.5 million barrels of crude oil daily. Most of the money however ends up in the pockets of just elite few. The World Bank estimates 53.5 percent of the country’s 180 million people live under the poverty line.

As Nigerians prepare for the polls early next year, analysts believe that the polls at Osun will mimick the outcome of the country’s presidential elections. Already, the All Progressives Congress (APC) has given the strong indication that the incumbent president General Muhammadu Buhari will be the party’s flagbearer. The biggest opposition party, the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) is locked up in negotiations to come up with the best strategy to select their presidential candidate. The process has the potential to cause breakup in the already frail-looking party that ruled Nigeria for 16 years.

Election watchers are betting that the trend at this particular election will be reflected in next year’s polls. PDP’s Ademola Adeleke remains the favorite to win. He won last week’s contest with some 353 votes ahead of APC’s Alhaji Gboyega Oyetola.

The rerun has become necessary because the country’s electoral body, the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), ruled that since the difference between the two front runners in the poll is so close, there is the need to rerun the polls in places where the polls were either cancelled or disrupted due to violence.

With the two parties neck-in-neck in this race, there may be an unlikely kingmaker – Iyiola Ajani Omisore. He was third in last week’s poll and managed more than 120,000 votes in a race which was previously seen as a straight contest between the APC and PDP.

Omisore has just announced his support for APC’s Oyetola and has subsequently urged his followers to vote for the governing party’s candidate.

I read here today a thread on how to make Nigerian Jollof. After reading the instructions, I decided to share how Jollof is made in Ghana.

Judgement is for those that will try both recipes.

For the Jollof, you will need the following

Ingredients

1 cup rice
3 medium sized fresh tomatoes
I sachet tomato paste
4 pcs of pepper
1 bulb of large onion
Garlic(depends on your taste)
Salt
Soya Oil
Chicken/Fish

Procedure

Wash the garlic, onions and tomatoes with vinegar solution

Blend the fresh tomatoes and pepper together.

Blend the garlic and onions together. Place the resulting mixture in a bowl.

Place about 5cl soya oil on medium heat fire and allow to heat.

Add the garlic and onion mixture to the heated oil. Allow the content to boil until it starts to brown.

Add the satchet tomatoes.

Allow to cook for about 5 minutes (to rid the content of the funny taste that comes with tomato pastes )

Add the tomatoes and pepper mixture

Leave the resulting content on low fire after adding salt.

Wash and clean the chicken.

Steam and keep the stock of the chicken.

Remove the chicken when tender and fry.

Put your chicken stock back on fire

Wash and add your rice

Cover and allow the content to cook for about five minutes.

Now add the tomato sauce you prepared to the rice.

Stir the content and cover for about a minute

Add a cup of water and allow to cook.

There you have it

Yummy!

This week a Superior Court judge in North Carolina ordered a Texas man to pay $8.8 million to the jilted husband of a North Carolina woman with whom the Texas man had been having an affair.

The award represented $2.2 million in compensatory damages and three times that in punitive damages, the Herald Sun of Durham reported.

In an April 2017 civil complaint, Keith King of Durham accused Francisco Huizar III of San Antonio of criminal conversation, alienation of affection, intentional infliction of emotional distress, negligent infliction of emotional distress and assault and battery, the newspaper reported.

In court testimony, Danielle King – who is 15 years younger than her husband -- said she pursued the relationship with Huizar in 2015 and that her marriage to Keith King had been unhappy nearly from the outset, according to the Herald Sun.

The Kings married in 2010 and have a 5-year-old daughter, according to court records.

North Carolina is one of a few states where jilted spouses can sue affair partners.

Attorney Joanne Foil said the affair and an alleged assault by Huizar cost King's company, BMX Stunt Shows, revenue and an employee, as his wife worked for the company.

Huizar's attorney, Cheri Patrick, says the Kings' marriage was damaged before Huizar met the wife at a BMX show. Patrick says King was controlling and manipulative.

Huizar plans to appeal.
