Politics / Re: "Petrol Price Should Be N750 Per Litre" - World Bank by Alex9999: 6:55pm On Dec 13, 2023
nairalanda1:
.

The World bank is right, and the government and most Nigerians are wrong.

Landing cost of fuel, as at October , first week, was N720 per liter. Yes...N720 per liter.Yet, we are selling fuel below N700 and lower, and pretending there is no subsidy.

Like where have we seen this before....yes, under Buhari, under GEJ, and under many past admins. The WB is not fooled....it can see through the lies.

The reason why we lost 4 refineries, and why we import ULTRA BAD FUEL...is simple. We spent 40-50 years pretending fuel is cheap, and the resultant loss promoted a culture of looting, sabotage, smuggling, and destroyed refineries. We went from 400000 bpd refining capacity in 1987 to 92000 in 2012, to 6000 in 2022. BPD.

And some people want to come and tell me subsidy was working, that all we needed to do was to fight the corruption, and things will change...meanwhile ....(Sounds like all those communists who kept on telling us true communisim had never been practiced..while the communist ship was crashing everywhere, except in China which embraced capitalism, along with Viet Nam, Laos. and now even Cuba).

We won't listen to this good adivce because as far as we know WB wants to exploit us. Meanwhile,w e allow the telecoms sector, food sector, hotels ector, even airline sector...set their prices. Yes, and the local bus driver and the landlord and hawker. We don;t let government set their prices and pay a subsidy that does not cover the losses...which forces them to engage in stealing to cover for losses.

Oh yes, and by the 1970's USSR was massively importing wheat from Canada and USA...because at the end, all them collectivised farms manned by farmers who could only sell wheat at state run prices, and zero profit, were producing small amounts of wheat...

We better let the petrol that is comming from the refineries being brought up now be sold at market price, otherwise, we would have instant replay.

I searched this entire thread for you. You are a breath of fresh air and give me hope. If this thread is a true sample of Nigerians, then the next colonialists are at the door, and Nigerians have their hand out uninformed and ready for chains; but you give me a thin sliver of hope.

big lies... almost all Nigerians abroad do it (95% sef), are u saying they are all illiterates?

Because you graduate from a Nigerian university does not mean you're not an illiterate. But if you reduce literacy to reading and writing, then you're correct and I'm wrong. BTW, not one doctor would do this nonsense (hopefully you catch my drift here).

SmartPolician:
The reason is that most of those advanced countries fear ordinary malaria the way we fear HIV in Nigeria. HITT, they have conquered malaria and they find it strange for someone to have malaria.

In fact, they can assemble the entire medical team of the country just because you said you have malaria. This attention is something you don't need as a visitor in a foreign country.

Therefore, Nigerians who have visited or lived in Nigeria ensure they go with some antimalarial medications to treat malaria because a female anopheles mosquito could have bitten them and the malaria will manifest when they get to their destination.

I hope this helps...
The above is informed but misses the mark. Go and do your research, more than half of the drugs taken abroad are antibiotics. Your post is what a reasonable person would do; most are not.

There is malaria especially in USA, Australia, because of presence of mosquito

The name malaria is a European work so you know

Dude, it's not mosquitoes that cause malaria; they're merely spreaders of Plasmodium falciparum, so you need both. In America, Australia and co, Plasmodium falciparum is not allowed to thrive and that's the difference.

mrvitalis:

1) malaria and some few sickness are not a common sickness over there so getting drugs for them after being infected in Nigeria is complex

2) you can't just go and buy drugs they way they are used to in Nigeria, because you would need Doctors appointment which cost money ( reason doctors are paid well)
So they avoid that by getting them here since the health sector is near primitive/unregulated

Trying to use it as an indicator we have a very good medica system is fallacious to say the least

Stop correcting lies with lies. In most western nations you don't pay to see a doctor & there is no malaria except from new returnees.

Politics / Re: IF THE SUPREME COURT AFFIRMS PEPT JUDGMENT, ABUJA WILL BE A STATE by Alex9999: 2:55pm On Sep 11, 2023
Racoon:
It is the constitutionality of this burning issue that is being considered man. Read with your brain intact. "Some APC supporters might say it is impossible to have a President and a Governor in Abuja. If they do so, then their argument will be flawed because the state of Washington in the US has a Governor (Google Jay Inslee) administering the state through the legitimate means of election by the inhabitants of Washington.

So, in essence, any affirmance by the Supreme Court of the PEPT's interpretation of the provisions of section 134 should naturally lead to a flood of litigation by the indigenes of Abuja to force the National Assembly to amend the Constitution in line with the Supreme Court's nullification of Section 134 of the 1999 Constitution (As amended).

I am very happy that the people of Abuja are about to have their state and acquire the right to elect their own Governor, 3 Senators and 10 House of Reps members under the auspices of a Supreme Court constitutional interpretation which nullifies section 134 of the Constitution

Standard fact challenged Obidiency. The state of Washington is not Washington DC or even near each other. JI!

Any other interpretation will mean the judgment of the PEPT will be reversed and the election of February 25th, 2023 nullified for noncompliance with the constitution. If you ask me, any judgment by the Supreme Court is a win-win situation for the Nigerian people."

Foreign Affairs / Re: Possible Implications Of Africas Alliance With Russia by Alex9999: 3:17pm On Jun 18, 2023
A better Africa will not come from aligning here and there ONLY. China, everyone's darling lately, is deeply intertwined with the US economy and does not want to decouple. Russia, led by a dictator, is almost entirely now reliant on China. India, seeking to advance, is courting the West for investment and technology. Meanwhile, Africans, with their usual lack of information and heavy in-bred hate, are asking us to side with authoritarian governments because they hate their brother, cousins, family members doing well in the WEST and not in China or Russia.

Back to square one

There's china

US is not even producing anything
Why should we bow to them?

If we revert to gold as oil currency exchange they'll bend to our decisions.
Ever since Nixon made petrodollar a transaction currency it has been open season for them. They literally generate money out of thin air by the click of a button

It is US companies that go to China to dictate production. Besides, there is more gold in Fort Knox than in whole of West and North Africa. Regarding thin air money production, you might be correct, but you also need to back it with institutions people trust. As for China, they are way more forceful than the US. Please be careful what you asked for: remember, anger at Jonathan brought Buhari.

I guess I'm just not accepting that "Buhari has NEVER conceded a lost election" means he will not have conceded if he had not been reelected.

As opposed to the irrelevance of him not conceding in the past while not President, not conceding if not reelected implies a desire to remain as President despite the will of we the people who voted him out, and I doubt he'd be that stupid. But we shall never know I guess, since he'd not have the opportunity ever again.

Thank you immensely Sir for your patience and the free education you have given me. I pray that I grow to be intelligent and wise as you.

Sir! I know you are educating me freely and I have not paid you any fees, but do note that that is more the reason for me to pay attention and be the best student I can be. If I have lost track, I will humbly submit to a whipping, Sir, for I should have paid attention to the education you freely give me.

The track began with your statement below:

To wit I wrote the following:

What makes you say that?

Bubu 84, yes. And imprison their asses for like 200 years. This bubu, though? You joke!

And you responded with:

And I have been trying to figure ever since how one deduces that "there is no chance of losing" means, "I will not concede".

I do not accept your 'we' in "we lost track", is my point, since it is my strong belief that I at least never lost track.

Sir! I believe this is a test of me paying attention again!

As I have said above, we have not yet arrived at the conclussion that "Buhari refused to concede", not to talk of "when", which is precisely where we are along the track.

Sir! His own words which you yourself provided were, "he said there is no chance of losing".

Forgive me, but that to me can very safely be construed as "losing is out of the range of possibility", but to add "will not concede" to his words will not be "in his own words, as you now state, but in your very own new words.

Me, Sir? Insult my very wise tutor who offers undeserving me free education? Please be assured that I thy student buda will jump into the hottest region of hell first!

I think that betting man would have lost his money for thinking a Supreme Court that did not support Obasanjo's bid for a third term would support a non-conceding Buhari remaining in office. But that is a moot point after the fact, and unnecessary speculating. Besides, he does not have to concede, as we are finding with trump, who, concede or not, will be packing his ass out of the American Aso Rock on 1600 Pennsylvania Avenue on 20 January 2021.

Personally, I will not be submitting myself to the tutoring of a person I have no faith in, and as you can see, I do submit to you, an institution in your own right, and a very strong one at that. So strong, I do believe, that:

Buhari would have had to vacate Aso Rock if he had not won or you and I and millions of others would have burnt Aso Rock down around him I would have bet, especially since Jonathan taught us how a president who lost must concede, and how we learnt to kick them out from when we kicked Babangida out. And if that don't work, we will most definitely Abacha his ass.

I can only say so because of the institutional strenght that you and I and millions of Nigerians would have called upon to kick him out if the circumstances had called for it.

I can only pray that I remain worthy of being educated by a superior mind as thine.

Worthy you are, so I'd go again: I provided you instances of Buhari not conceding, no? Was that 84? So what Nigerians will do or not do is another subject entirely. Buhari has NEVER conceded a lost election so nothing to see here.

You have avoided my question, Alex.

Whether Buhari conceeded an election he lost or not is irrelevant (don't you just love that wonderful word you taught me?). When he lost, concede or not, the winner was always sworn in.

We are seeing trump do the same and not concede an election he lost, yet, come 20 January 2021, concede or not he will need to find his incompetent orange ass a new place to live just as Buhari would have had to vacate Aso Rock if he had not won or you and I and millions of others would have burnt Aso Rock down around him I would have bet, especially since Jonathan taught us how a president who lost must concede, and how we learnt to kick them out from when we kicked Babangida out. And if that don't work, we will most definitely Abacha his ass.

Its called Democracy, you see, rule by me and you and everyone else, or at least, choosing who does get to rule.

One last try, as we have lost track of the original premise. When Buhari refused to concede, he wasn't sitting president. When asked if he'd concede,(in his own words not mine) he said it was out of the range of possibility. So you can say he was joking, deluding himself or whatever (that's not my premise), you heard it from the horse's mouth when it was relevant (and not after the fact). What else can I help with? Confirm what he meant?

To address additional points you raised (because I appreciate your lack of personal insults and deem you worth responding to), American institutions are way stronger than ours, and if Buhari had concluded he was cheated, I think the betting man would bet on the current Supreme court supporting that stand.

Good thinking. And I think I understand, though you must determine since you are much wiser and intelligent than simple minded me.

Apply the logic you are teaching me above to yourself and let me know how you are 100% certain Buhari would not have conceeded if he had lost the election since you too, I pressume, could not have seen the future at the time he said what he said.

Buhari has never conceded an election, and he has lost many.

So, the timing of Buhari's response before the election, which you gave as, "no chance of losing", is irrelevant to whether "he was going to concede if he lost the election" that he won?

I must say, you are much more full of wisdom and intelligence than lowly me can possibly comprehend.

I agree with your last statement so I'd try again: You want to use an after-the-fact occurrence to justify what Buhari said when he didn't know what we all NOW know. How could Buhari have been 100% certain he'd win? To say, you see, he won is useless except Buhari (and yourself) could have seen the future at that time.

Let me know if you can comprehend this time else I'd try again.
