A renowned Ex-Beauty Queen and Philanthropist, Queen Serena A. Joseph has joined the rest of the world to celebrate the International Day of the Girl-Child, as she moves a campaign to secondary schools in Nigeria, to educate girls on several apparent issues that may affect their future.

The International Day of the Girl Child has been marked by World Bank Youth Forum (WBYF) to highlight the strengths, prospects and capacity in every girl child, especially in Nigeria, where the situation is devastating.

The programmed which was themed "With Her; A Skilled Girl Force", took place at the World Bank country office in Asokoro, Nigeria. The girl child day event focused on identifying policies and structures from private and government institutions that can inspire innovations amongst young girls in our community.

One of the guest speakers for the program, Queen Chikezie Ijeoma, the founder and Convener of Help Keep Clean Foundation, spoke affectionately about the required assistance; necessary humanitarian gestures and proactive engagements needed to improve the overall conditions of girl children in Nigeria.

She stressed on the socio-economic and socio-political relevance of the girl child in any society, stating that the female gender is a force that must be carefully structured with skills that will help build a better future for herself and her entire community.

However, the event had the presence of representatives from international organisations, humanitarian institutions, government parastatals and volunteers. Jubilations As Tony Nwulu grabs UPP governorship ticket In Imo State.

Hon Tony Nwulu has grabbed the governorship ticket of the United Progressive Party, UPP in Imo State.

In a keenly contested guber primary held at the State Secretariat of the UPP in Owerri, Nwulu floored his challenger, Chris Nwadigbo

He polled 1, 090 votes to Nwadigo’s 101 votes, a victory which elicited thunderous ovation and applause from teeming party members who took part in the exercise.

The Primary election adjudged free, fair, transparent and credible has placed the UPP as a major contender for the 2019 governorship election in Imo State

Nwulu in his acceptance speech after he was returned winner of the primary vowed to live up to the huge expectations and confidence reposed in him by party members who overwhelmingly voted for his emergence as the party governorship flagbearer.

He said with his victory, the UPP has made a bold statement and issued a quit notice to the present occupants of Government House, Owerri.

He said the journey to liberate and revive Imo State has just begun assuring that with his emergence, the time for Imolites to smile has come.

“My emergence signpost a better Imo State. It is for the pensioners, the workers and all those who believe and yearn for the betterment of the people of Imo State” he said

He promised to carry everyone along in the task ahead, just as he congratulated his opponent and extended a hand of co- operation as the UPP march on in the quest to win Imo governorship

Nwulu is from Owerri zone and with his emergence as the governorship candidate of the UPP, political analysts say he has become a rallying point for stakeholders in the zone to stake a major claim for Imo Governorship in 2019.

The academic initiative by the life-changing gestures of Charity Nnaji foundation voluntarily empowered over 50 orphans between the ages of 1-5years with free academic scholarships so as to weld the weapon of primary education.
