As part of its readiness to capture power in 2019 at all levels and reposition for the titanic electoral battle ahead in Imo State, the United Progressive Party, UPP held its State Congress on Monday.


The Congress was held at the State Party Secretariat, Owerri.

Party members at the Congress elected a new State executives with Hon.Innocent Njoku emerging the new State Chairman of the party.


Mr. Benjamin Ehirim was elected the State Secretary of the party. No fewer than 13 other officers were elected to fill up various positions in the State Working Committee that will lead the party to the 2019 polls in Imo State and thereafter.

The exercise was peaceful and devoid of rancour as party chieftains and members expressed their determination to energize the party and take over the reins of governance of the State in 2019.


Speaking to teeming members shortly after the election of the new state executives, the new State Chairman of the party in the State, Hon.Innocent Njoku said the UPP has what it takes to contend with other political parties to take over governance and other elective positions in 2019.


He said the cry of the masses will not be in vain as there will be divine intervention in Imo State during the 2019 election.

“UPP will deliver and we need to work as a team to ensure victory. The peaceful Congress is a manifestation of our determination to succeed compared to what we saw when some political parties held their own congresses

“God is on our side and with positive prayers, grassroot mobilization, Imo State will be rebuilt and UPP will succeed” Njoku said

In his remarks, the UPP 2015 Imo governorship candidate and fiery critic, Prof.Protus Nathan Uzoma said with the successful conduct of the Congress, the UPP has become the party to beat in the State in 2019.

He said in 2015 the party was edged out vowing that such scenario will not repeat itself again.

Uzoma said with divine powers and unity the UPP will surely excel in the 2019 coming elections. He advised party members to stick to the motto of the party which is unity and love.

“Without unity and love, one cannot achieve anything in life.Both of them are interwoven and we need to inculcate such values if we must succeed”Uzoma said amidst thunderous cheers from party members.


He called on members of the UPP to speak the language of the party, imploring the State Chairman and his executives to constitute a reconciliation committee to harmonize any differences that may arise after the Congress.

The Congress was witnessed by party leaders including a former Commissioner in the State, Chief Ejike Uche.

The over 200,000,000 (Two hundred million naira) logo of the yet to be inaugurated Nigeria Air was unveiled at the Farnborough International Air Show, in Faraway United Kingdom.

The move was strategic and the idea was to alert the international community of our plans to set up a national carrier this December, and to also get investors as the federal government will only contribute 5% while sourcing investors to bear the remaining 95%.

Charity they say begins at home and while the idea of attracting both foreign and local investors is very commendable, considering our present economic situation; it’s very important for the Federal government to look inwards and do a lot of image laundering for Nigeria’s aviation industry, since we have become a laughing stock in the comity of nations with the myriad of negative stories they hear and read on a daily basis.

This, I must mention has done more harm than good to this industry and the airlines are the worst hit as they hardly get any deal sealed without an iota of discrimination lamented an airline chief.

I will give two clear reasons why the Federal Government’s desire to get investors might suffer some setbacks and the urgent need to always jump and nip these issues in the bud when they arise. The reason why Virgin Atlantic pulled out of Nigeria is still very fresh. A government enters into a deal; another government comes and revokes it. The foreign partner or investor is disappointed, goes to his country and shares his experience with other investors and tomorrow you go back to beg for investors, and expect them to trust you?

The concession agreement between MMA2 and the Federal Government is also a clear case that will definitely make it a bit difficult for Hadi Sirika’s team to woo investors. It is instructive to mention here that the Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria (FAAN) still collects 50% of MMA2’s revenue till date, as the agreement that MMA2 has with the with Federal government prohibits FAAN from managing the General Aviation Terminal (GAT) and collecting the revenue that MMA2 would have used to replicate the same topnotch facilities it has at MMA2 at GAT.

The illegality of FAAN running the General Aviation Terminal has still not been condemned by the Federal Government whose team is junketing around the world with tax payers’ money searching for investors while still frustrating and stifling investors back home. Now the point is, no shrewd investor whether ‘’home based’’ or foreign will ever trust the Nigerian Government on Nigeria Air with all of these unaddressed issues back home.

The international community is watching how our ‘change’ Government handles issues of ‘’mutual consent’’ with distrust and volte face. Some weeks back, there was an erroneous or better still ‘fake’ stories about two domestic airlines on social media, while the airlines refuted it in good time, the Nigerian Civil Aviation Authority (NCAA), refused to issue a statement to reassure the flying public being the main regulator. As a public affairs commentator, I know and I trust many would agree with me, that a statement from the NCAA would have done a lot, not only to clear the air, but to abate the de-marketing that would have done to the industry in general.

The aviation unions have also contributed in no small measure to the de-marketing of Nigeria’s aviation industry. The Federal Government, Ministry of Aviation and the regulators must check the activities of these unions as they have become a serious threat to the industry, particularly the airlines, and this is because the regulators and stakeholders have continued to condone their illegality.

Last year, the National Association of Aircraft Pilots and Engineers (NAAPE), threatened to picket some airlines over alleged casualization of staff and anti labour activities, but the airlines decided to face them battle for battle by arranging the police to disperse them. Taking this bold step saved the airline from losing millions and their passengers, an unnecessary stress and delay, which would have been caused by their crude attempt to arm-twist the airlines into accepting what only exist in the minds of the unions.

Not too long ago, the Air Transport Services Senior Staff Association (ATSSSAN), issued an ultimatum to Bi-Courtney Aviation Services limited (BASL) operator of MMA2 to recall its staff that were allegedly dismissed for joining to the union or face ‘series of disruptions.’’

This is another senseless threat from a union in Nigeria’s aviation industry to disrupt the activities of MMA2 in the coming weeks without due consideration for the airlines or the monies that will be lost from this illegal plan? What will be the fate of the passengers who have bought the ticket of these airlines to meet important appointments, jobs or contracts? Will they suffer because ATSSSAN has refused to tow the path of reasoning? Have they asked if these staff were dismissed for inefficiency, ill health, redundancy or due for retirement? What will the union gain when they further de-market an industry that has suffered more than enough bad press both locally and internationally? Will this action not further frustrate the efforts of President Muhammed Buhari who has been exploring every opportunity to invite investors to Nigeria?In whose interest are these unions working?

If this planned or better still illegal disruption of flight activities at MMA2 is allowed by the Minister, FAAN and the NCAA, then it will be safe to conclude that they are the prime sponsors of these touts called unions, whose members are predominantly present and past staff of FAAN, NCAA, and NAMA.

it’s important for the Buhari led administration to investigate this unions NOW, as these regulators seem to be using them to cover their ineptitude which is evident in the level of decadence at all the Airports across the country.

The so-called association should be advised that they will make a better impact if they work together to fight the cause of the airlines by issuing ultimatums or threatening marketers not to arbitrarily skyrocket their aviation fuel cost or to the NCAA to address the over 37 sundry charges that airlines pay including the VAT, which the FIRS still accumulates, even as FG made a lot of fuse about its removal to help airlines survive their harsh operating environment.

JUREMI FOUNDATION TAKES VOCATIONAL EXERCISE TO SCHOOL OF THE BLIND IN ABUJA

The rains of humanitarian gestures by Juremi foundation have again drizzled on physically challenged persons, as their team visited the school of blind people in Jabi, FCT, Nigeria recently.


According to the coordinator, the recent reach-out program for blind people by Juremi team, was geared at giving them a better life and providing them with empowerment skills.

The visit by Juremi team witnessed an established responsive relationship with the school of blind people and developed an initiative that created opportunities for students to learn some few vocational skills like candle production and processing.

The beneficiaries of program, which included special students from the blind institution, expressed gratitude to Juremi foundation for extending such charitable gesture to them, stating that the kindhearted support will not be forgotten.

Emphatically, the Juremi Foundation team appreciated the coordination of students and the pace at which they were able to grab the skills which they empowered with, stating that a follow-up program will be initiated to manage the gainful relevance of the vocations.

Dana Air adds Boeing 737- 700 aircraft to Fleet ….To commence ‘early bird’’ service from Abuja on 10th September

IMO GUBER POLLS: UCHE NWOSU ATTRACTS UNUSUAL CROWD DURING LOCAL GOVERNMENT TOUR[b][/b]

The APC gubernatorial aspirant and chief of staff to Imo state government, Ugwumba Uche Nwosu, has received the endorsements, support and acceptance of Imolites, as they came out in massive turnouts, during the local government area tour at Mbaise and others which began recently.

The tour across the local government areas in Imo state by Chief Ugwumba and his team has witnessed great support from youths, as well as other sociocultural and sociopolitical groups in the state especially from Mbaise LGA. Expressing satisfaction with her growth in the movie industry, Meurer said, “I am not concerned with the pace at which I get movie roles; instead, I bother myself about the time, sacrifices and commitments I put into the roles I represent. What should matter to actors and actresses should be the creative inputs and relevance of whatever movie they feature in. There are so many movies and several actors, but we seldom find good movies and if eventually we do find any, we always will introduce and inform others to see it. GOV. OKOROCHA ATTRACT 3.5m Donations, Gifts Houses To Widows

The just concluded August Meeting at IMO state has witnessed several donations and life changing supports for women in the state. The state governor, HE Gov. Rochas Anayo Okorocha graced the ceremony with life touching donations that triggered several contributions from well meaning Imolites to those who are in difficult situations.

In furtherance of the charity gestures of the state Governor at the ceremony, he triggered 3.5million donations from several people who were moved by the sympathetic condition of a woman, who was also gifted a two bedroom flat. The indigent aged woman was soaked in abject poverty and several health related challenges. The extension of love to this fortunate poor woman triggered other donations well prominent personalities at the event.

The 2018 ceremony of Imo August Meeting displayed the true significance of sharing cultural values, as it emphasized on supports and recognition for IMO women who are faced with great challenges. The Govenor in his benevolent nature gave out three bedroom bungalows to each winners in the raffle draw, which was conducted at the event.

The ceremony which was organised by the wife of the state Governor, Nkechi Rochas, was in view of the governors interest and support for the less privileged women in the state. Stating that her visionary engagements and strenghts in humanity and charity works would not be weakened.

However, in the keynote address by the special guest of honour, the wife of the president, who has represented by the Vice president's wife, Dr. Dolapo Osinbajo, she encouraged IMO women to tenaciously pray for the leaders of our nation, so as lead and govern the people with the fear of God. She called on young women to be vessels of transformation and reconciliation in our nation. The ceremony had the presence of wives of the state Governors, which included states like Edo, Cross River, Delta state, Abia and Enugu state.

The rains of humanitarian gestures by the prominent Juremi Foundation has dropped on the sands of Karamajiji community, in a responsive engagement of free technical and vocational centres for participants of its recent free skills acquisition program.

The foundation made this known to our reporters via a press statement, which it released recently. The release stressed on the provisional efforts which the Foundation has made in the areas of empowerment and skills acquisition programs for the community.

In view of the foundation's vision to improve the value and relevance of people living with disabilities in Nigeria, it went ahead to build and set-up this vocational learning centre in Karamajiji community, so as to boost their economic commitments to the nation.

The foundation provided sewing machines, musical equipments and other necessary gadgets that will ensure a smooth operation of the vocational centres.

Juremi foundation has made this commitment to support those who are living with disabilities and others who have interest in the program.

The community head and people living in the Karamajiji community has expressed gratitude and appreciation to Juremi foundation, for such a charitable contribution to humanity. Speaking with a young interested youth in the community, she said, "I have been idle and not knowing what to engage in, until this intervention by Juremi foundation, we praise them and we promise to take up this vocational skills and trainings, so as to be useful to ourselves and our community", she concluded.

The project coordinator, stressed that participants will display the skills they have acquired at the grande finale of Most Beautiful Model and Art Exhibition Concert which is coming up soon.

The Senator and organiser of Most Beautiful Girl In Nigeria - MBGN received contestants at his Silverbird galleria in Abuja to a glamorous and well deserved reception. Sen. Ben Bruce expressed remarkable confidence in the contestants, stressing that their ambassadorial representation must be reflected in the iconic mentorship that is required from them.

The organiser of Miss Polo International, Mrs Ibife Alufohai appreciated the remarkable comments of Senator Bruce, stating that his recognition of the contestants will continue to promote his unequivocal strengths in the pageant industry.

However, the outstanding pronunciations from contestants described gratitude and sustained their commitments to be responsive to the visionary requirements of the 2018 Polo contest.
