Music/RadioRe: Jay-z Did First Week In His First Week, But: by alisigwe(m): 9:21pm On Sep 28, 2009
kay29000:
Jay-z did 467k in his first week on the chats, that is very good numbers. But i just have a problem with jay-z albums, i just can't listen from start to finish. I sleep off must of the time, or i just get bored. It's probably because he isn't that deep with the lyrics, he keeps talking about money, and drinks, and jewelry, stuff like that. And when he talks about life, he is talking about his own life, that can get boring after you've heard it a couple of times before.
Apart from his first album, and maybe blueprint 1, i can't really listen to a jay album from start to finish.
When you listen to albums from rappers like nas and tupac (God bless his soul), you actually stand to gain something, unlike any of jay's albums. Another good jay album was kingdom come, it had some nice themes, but the rest,

DON'T HATE ON MY OPINION. YOU SHOULD ACTUALLY GIVE IT A DEEP THOUGHT.
gat a friend who would swear and curse at the very mention of jigga's name, but truly jay ain't the type of rapper you chill and listen to,so boring like hell and lyrics so bubble gum at times that i start wondering whats up with all this dudes felling him,he's a hustler fine, but i don't count marrying beyonce as shit, dude gat swagga, but he's no where near escobar ever in the rap game,no lessons from moost of his tracsk, and most of his lyrics smtimes are shit i can't relate to thats why he gat more females fans than t-pain and peeps still say he's the best from b.k what d Bleep
Music/RadioRe: Mode9 by alisigwe(m): 8:20pm On Sep 24, 2009
tjay007:
@DBR
I see alot of sense in your post and agree with you in all but onething. that been that mode9 doesnt want to be a commercial wonder. Let me start by saying that even in the US where Rap is believed to have got its origin, rappers who are not after commercial success as they claim are at least living what you can term as HIGH STANDARD though, they might not be able to buy or afford things that their counterparts can they are still ok. Imagine ruggedman saying mode doesnt have a car & stuff. that should have been the last thing for rugged to say if otherwise. I don't mean no disrespect but looking at mode9 one can tell he's (successwise) no where near the likes of even the young folks who met him in the game. have you ever thought it that how many concerts or shows mode get invited to perfom? (i stand to be corrected).
Rakim, nuc turner, ice cube, dr dre even nas are hardline punchers but enjoyed commercial success at on point in their carriers even if they were not able to move units like the likes of 2pac & biggie did. I bet you know Rakim is i think, termed the best rapper of all time. If mode knows he isnt after commercial success i advice he uses his influence to get something lucrative that will at least deviate words like he has no car away. my brother no b beta thing at all. Abi him go talk say him no like money or good life? i guess not because thats onething hip hop stars are known 4 "living the good life". I will say these same things if mode were my blood brother.
speaking my opinion herein,
guy,i feel u,but u still gats to give it up to modo,he concentrates way abt his music than going around the show biz world scuffing his neck 4 other shits, thats the diff between him an d rugged, and believe me dude, this dayz modo goes to more shows than rugged as par 2009,dude gat his blood to this music shit like an oath, and recently he just purchased a teranno jeep, throws up shows 4 free and sticks his energy one place, comparing him to nas, they kind of share the same ideology, music comes first, where is rugged now in the rap game?probably in the middle of nowhere,couldn\t reply to deathblow,no single on air no news abt him just like that and i don\t knw what i feel 4 peeps that still believe he's great,he already lost his way,GOD help him.
Music/RadioRe: Mode9 by alisigwe(m): 8:06pm On Sep 24, 2009
no disrespect to modenizzy, but this dayz he sounds more of a bling bling rapper to me,i've heard two tracks recently and it was all abt how fly he's looking and shit, guess the system is starting to break him.no disrespect.1

Music/RadioRe: M.i-the Incredible Blunder by alisigwe(m): 8:19pm On Aug 25, 2009
damn,f this shit,i think the poster was alil bit biased wth the way he attacked mi,claiming his album wasn't even a classic,he ain't the best and shits like that,to me apart 4rm gino's pain plus work this is the best album i've heard in three years 4rm naija, and nobody is sure this track was directed to iceberg,it's just a way u want to get back at mi or shit,
i thinkm iceberg is tight but if he ever dissed mi,then its cool he gets back at him to restate his authority, and whats the shit abt peeps not feeling mi,come over to abj,he's ev en loved more by the ladies, described as the best shit ever to come ouuta abj,he's protecting his by sitting tight where he is,thu to me if iceberg is coppled and given iller beats the way that rips his style he could damage someone jst like that

mr olu probably took to this titile cuz 4 two months now, there's been a heated argument going on youtube abt an ignorant line eldee used on big boy where he said he rocks ''jewels 4rm conflicts'' that line was heavily criticed and a lotta peeps said it was too uncalled 4 to rap abt shaddy deals and all that, while we all knw it's best to keep them underground, and while all this shit was going peeps keep talking abt busta's arab money where he changed a certain line cuz he was heavily criticed and his label felt the pressure and decided to pull it off,it's cool he's gat money but music is all abt fantacies, thats why i don't feel biggie, but the way mr olu is going abt this money shit,i wonder what real peeps making the cheda will be saying, word

actually,am facing exactly this situation right now,i gat 7 credit,2 a's in ma ssce, with 239 and 245 in previous jamb exams, but admission's beign essing with 4 like three years, and fortunately or shld i say unfortunately,ma pops left his his bussines 4 me that;s worth like imilla and now i don suspend ma school cuz ma mind now dey race ab t the cheda i go make before dem check stock, trully since then levels change, now i am comfortable staying only with no family member or friend for two rooms, and am still 22,then tell me how i'll start thinking of leaving this bussiness 4 degree while i knw a lot of jobeless graduates, a lot of peeps yhink am doing the right tin while some think i am on the wrong side, and trully am confused cuz am the brightest in our family but being the only son i want to get mad rich and make it while still wrong,so maybe csh comes first while education comes after money, but if nat 4n this things i would've choosed education cuz way back i thought that was d only way to success.

Music/RadioRe: Is Nas The Greatest Rapper Or What? by alisigwe(m): 8:23pm On Dec 26, 2008
Part of the reason for Illmatic's acclaim was the discerning treatment of its subject matter: gang rivalries, desolation, and the ravages of urban poverty. Nas, who was nineteen years old when the album was recorded, realistically depicts the darker side of urbanity, creating highly detailed first-person narratives that deconstruct the troubling lives of inner city teenagers. These narratives originate from Nas' own experiences in his hometown of Queensbridge, as the lyrics and the album cover both allude to the housing projects located in Long Island City section of Queens, New York.

Nas was a genius introvert who rose out of the rubble of Reaganomics to bless the mic with a forward brand of introspective, redemptive street poetry, [his] narration glorifies the emergent poetic self as the embodiment of an elevated creative state that is potentially attainable by most any ghetto child, [His] narrative voice swerves between personas that are cynical and optimistic, naïve and world-weary, enraged and serene, globally conscious and provincial, [He] was a most worthy candidate to craft a palatable and subversive message for the rotten apple's disenfranchised youth. He was young and observant enough to isolate and analyze the positively formative moments of a project childhood while unflinchingly documenting the tragedies. Throughout lllmatic, listeners are implored to embrace their hardened upbringing as an imperative to move on to bigger and better things, both in the intellectual and material sense.

The intro, "Genesis", starts with an audio sample of the "Subway Theme" from the 1982 movie Wild Style, the first major hip hop motion picture. Nas made another ode to Wild Style, while shooting the music video for his single, "It Ain't Hard To Tell", on the same stage as the finale scene for the film. Nas' debut, "Live at the Barbeque" is played in the background of "Genesis". On "One Love", Nas writes a series of letters to a friend in prison, recounting several mutual acquaintances and the events that have occurred since the receiver's imprisonment. And in "N.Y. State of Mind", Nas recounts his participation in gang violence, and philosophizes that "Life is parallel to Hell, but I must maintain". The song focuses on a mind state that one can only truly have if they are raised in New York City. In other songs, Nas celebrates life's pleasures and achievements, acknowledging violence as a feature of his socio-economic conditions rather than the focus of his life.

The New York Times noted that Nas "imbues his chronicle with humanity and humor, not just hardness ,  [He] reports violence without celebrating it, dwelling on the way life triumphs over grim circumstances rather than the other way around. And Time magazine praised the "submerged emotion" on Illmatic, calling the album a "wake-up call to [Nas]'s listeners.

mess character mofo, skillz counts more than whatever, pac ur minigod, admitted after bigie's death that he was pushed after him,and thats the point where he was slayed,ma hero don't have to  elaborate cowardily to be accepted,he stresses out how it occured and the need to get the shit off the hood.word

Bamsyle:
Dawg, are you somewhere in the woods?

You kept rating Nas based on character standards and I showed you that underneath all that "thug life", "f**k the world" and stuff, Pac was a real good brother. Then you start to claim that I'm attributing every quality you drop about Nas to Pac. What are you on?

Me dissing Nas? shocked You must be losing it. In your world, my saying Pac is ahead of Nas is synonymous with dissing. Hombre, I'm sure you don't like Nas as much as I do. I won't even let you into my Nas World. On a good day, I won't even be having this needless debate with you. Your rating of Nas comes nowhere close to mine.

Y'know'hat? Stop this bulls*it. How many times platinum has Pac's Don Killuminati: The 7-day Theory gone? Quit comparing Pac and Nas. Or Biggie and Nas. Nas doesn't even come close. Find sumn better to do. Maybe compare Barrack Obama and Sarah Palin (who's the better freestyler?). Not this bulls*it. Don't make me talk like I don't like/respect Nas. I do. But for you to place him above Biggie or Pac, especially using character parameters; that's drivel. B T W, when did a rapper's skill become measurable by his character?

Did you say a university is studying "One Mic"? I'm impressed cheesy. Recently, the renowned Harvard University sponsored an academic symposium on 2pac and his works. Speakers included an English Professor from State University of New York, a Professor of Communications from Northeastern University, a Professor of Music from Northeastern University and a Professor of Humanities and African American Studies from University of Pennsylvania (who also wrote a book on 2pac).

At the symposium, these professors all praised 2pac, employing words like "intellectual", "brilliant", and "insightful" to describe him and his works. Someone said his death has left a leadership void amongst hip-hop artists.

Not long after his death, a course was introduced at the University of California on 2pac's poetry and history.

If you need sources for all the above, ask me.

There are loads more but let me stop here else we won't stop till the sun goes down. I hope you now know what time it is because if your argument is all about legacy (be it academic, cultural, etc) or awards, 2pac got 'em in heaps. . .

Maybe you never heard of this rule but it goes sumn like this:

"When rooting for an artiste, be mindful that you do not place character over skill".

Repeat it to yourself 120 times.

Do sumn for me homie. Go check a dictionary. "Character" and "Skill" are 2 different words.
